HEARD A BANG & WHEEL WAS ON ITS SIDE. LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION CAUSED WHEEL TO TILT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 5MPH. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. MECHANIC SAID BOLT WAS LEFT OFF OR WAS MISSING FROM THE SUSPENSION. *AK
FRONT SEAT TRACK FAILED.
WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLES ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE AND MOVE FORWARD ALTHOUGH CONSUMER FOOT WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE, CONSUMER TOUCHED THE OTHER VEHICLE AND THE TRUCK STARTED PUSHING IT FORWARD, CONSUMER HAD TO TURN OFF VEHICLE TO STOP THE MOVEMENT. NLM
THE CRANK SENSOR WIRING, FOR THE STARTER (IGNITION), WILL NOT START THE VEHICLE. TOOK TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED WHAT PROBLEM WAS. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY & DEALER REFUSED REPAIRS UNLESS PAID UP FRONT FIRST. VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY IN BEGINNING.*AK

THE CONSUMER REPLACED FOUR FIRESTONE WILDERNESS ATX TIRES DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION PRIOR TO RECALL. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE AND REQUESTED FIRESTONE TO REIMBURSE HER FOR TIRES PURCHASED, BUT FIRESTONE REJECTED THE REQUEST, FIRESTONE STATED THAT CONSUMERS TIRES WERE NOT APART OF THE SAFETY RECALL AND ALSO THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1,2000, FIRESTONE TIRE SIZE 235/75R15. *YH

RIGHT FRONT FIRESTONE ATX TIRE (P235 75 R15) EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARTION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DO A 360 DEGREE TURN ON THE INTERSTATE, VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGES. *SLC
MY VEHICLE DID A 360 ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO CAUSE. THE ADJUSTER DETERMINED THERE WAS A DEFECT IN MY TIRE SO I HAD TO REPLACE A TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: 235/75/15 )
VEHICLE SUDDENDLY SLOWED DOWN AND WOULD NOT MOVE. UPON CHECKING THE SUV, DRIVING NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD FALLEN OFF AND WAS HANGING ON BY A STRING. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. DEALER NOT WILLING TO CORRECT FREE OF CHARGE. *AK
THE TREAD CAME OFF THE TIRE AND HIT THE WHEEL WELL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AND NO OTHER DAMAGE OCCURED. THE TIRE WAS ON THE REAR AND FIRESTONE WOULD NOT EVEN PRORATE THE TREAD WEAR ON THE TIRE AND CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND THE TIRE WAS THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE.( DOT NUMBER: VD______ TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED IN A PANIC STOP THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, CAUSING A COLLISION. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 15 MPH THE EXPLORER BEGAN TO TRAVEL AT A SPEED OF 80 MPH BECAUSE THE FLOOR MAT GOT STUCK UNDER THE PEDAL. DRIVER SHIFTED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP THE SUV WHILE USING THE BRAKES. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED TO DEALERSHIP.
WHEN VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP THE MOTOR RACES WITH THE RPM'S GOING UP TO 6000, IDLE ARM SENSOR REPLACED, BUT STILL IDLING HIGH.
FUEL LINE BROKE WHICH IS LOCATED NEAR EXAUST SYSTEM MANIFOLD. CONSUMER IS VERY CONCERNED FOR SAFETY. *AK THE FUEL LINE BRACKET BROKE AT THE BRACKET ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE ENGINE BY THE VALVE COVER, THIS WAS FOUND BE THE STRONG SMELL OF GAS WHILE THE A/C WAS ON. *SLC

CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH SEAT TRACKS AND ANCHORS. WHEN THE DRIVER SLAMMED ON BRAKES, BACK SEAT TILTED UP AND THE PASSENGER WAS EJECTED INTO THE AIR. AS A RESULT, THE PASSENGER JAMMED HER HEAD AGAINST THE CEILING. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. ON 2-DOOR MODEL. *AK
THE LOCATION OF REAR VIEW MIRROR IS MOUNTED TOO LOW, WHICH OBSTRUCTS DRIVERS VISION. DRIVER NOT ABLE TO SEE TO THE RIGHT CLEARLY. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *AK *SB
WHEN ACCELERATING TO TURN LEFT WITH MY S.O.H.C V6 EXPLORER, THE ENGINE WILL SOMETIMES CUT OUT AND ALMOST STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH CARS BEARING DOWN ON ME. IT GOES FOR 2 SECONDS AND THEN CUTS OUT FOR 2 SECONDS. IT WILL THEN TAKE OFF AGAIN. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE HEAT OUTSIDE, BUT IT HAPPENED THIS JANUARY. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TURNING LEFT UNDER QUICK ACCELERATION. HAS HAPPENED WITH 1/4 TANK OF GAS TO NEARLY FULL. I DID A SEARCH IN DEJANEWS AND FOUND APPROX. 20 OTHER SIMILAR CASES. IT IS VERY SCARRY TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE ALMOST DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH CARS COMING AT YOU. IT HAPPENED TWICE IN THE SUMMER OF 97, 3 TIMES IN THE SUMMER OF 98 AND ONCE IN JANUARY 99.
WHILE DRIVING BRIDGESTONE TIRE BLEWOUT, CONSUMER CHANGED THE TIRE AND ABOUT FIVE MILES LATER TWO MORE TIRES BLEWOUT, CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AND REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT. NLM
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, CONSUMER HEARD SOMETHING POPPING. THEN NOTICED A GAS SMELL. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS LATER OTHER MOTORIST WAS SIGNALING FOR CONSUMER TO PULL OVER. PULLED OVER AND FOUND ENGINE ON FIRE. DEALER NOTIFIED AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THEY DO NOT DO FIRE REPAIRS AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *AKTHE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER FIRE RELATED FAILURE. *NLM
AT APPROXIMATELY 11;30 P.M. MAY 28, 1999,AS WE WERE TRAVELING ALONG INTERSTATE 10, JUST OUTSIDE OF TALLAHASSEE ,FLORIDA, MY EXPLORER SUDDENLY VEERED TOWARD THE LEFT ABRUPTLLY. A LOUD CRASHING SOUND WAS HEARD FROM THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. PULLING THE CAR ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, MY WIFE AND I CHECKED TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED. MUCH TO OUR SURPRISE THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT TO THE RIGHT REAR TIRE EXCEPT SHREDS OF A RADIAL TIRE. LUCKY FOR US , THAT AT THE TIME OF THE PROBLEM, I WAS DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE, AS SHE WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO MANUEVER DURING THE PROBLEM. ALSO THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE RIGHT LANE DUE TO THE LATE HOUR. WITH GREAT PROBLEM, WE CHANGED THE TIRE AND ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION QUITE SHAKEN UP. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION OF THE TIRE AND THE VEHICLE THE NEXT MORNING, WE REALIZED THAT THERE HAD BEEN MUCH DAMAGE TO THE UNDERPANELS OF THE CAR. I MUST NOTE, THAT AT THE TIME WE WERE TRAILERING A WAVE RUNNER . SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE AND THE BOAT ON THE ROAD. AFTER RETURNING HOME, I WENT TO FIRESTONE , A WHICH TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME. I PURCHASED 2 NEW TIRES TO REPLACE THE BACK TIRES FROM FIRESTONE. ONE YEAR LATER , ALMOST TO THE EXACT DATE, WE WERE AGAIN VISITING IN THE TALLAHASSEE AREA, AND ON OUR WAY HOME THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE. AFTER GOING THROUGH THE ORDEAL THE LAST TIME, WE QUICKLY PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE TIRES AND SURE ENOUGH THE SAME THING WAS STARTING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. WE CHANGED THE TIRE AND CAME HOME. THE VERY NEXT DAY WE REPLACED ALL THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE BUT NOT WITH FIRESTONE TIRES. I MUST MENTION THAT THERE WAS A TOTAL OF $920 WORTH OF DAMAGE DONE TO THE EXPLORER DURING THE MAY 1999 ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE DONE DURING THE LATEST SHREDDING BECAUSE I KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AGAIN. I AM QUITE UPSET WITH THE FACT THAT NOTHING WAS DONE FOR ME LAST YEAR OR THIS YEAR ECEPT A DENIAL ON FIRESTONES PART. MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE.

TIMING CHAIN ACCESORIES ARE MADE OF A POOR MATERIAL CAUSING IT TO BREAK . WHATS WORRY ALL THE COSTUMER IS THAT THE PEOPLE THE HAVE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS SITUATION IN TIME(WARRATY TIME) MAKING THIS PROBLEM PROLONG SO MUCH THAT THE COSTUMERS HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM AND IT COST HAVING THE SITUATION DURING THE WARRANTY TIME.
BELT FAILURE ON ALL FOUR TIRES . SPARE IS NEW/UNUSED. 'HAVE BEEN BABYING VEHICLE DRIVING HABITS. TREAD IS GOOD BUT VEHICLE WOBBLES EVEN AFTER AN ALIGNMENT AND REPEATED WHEEL BALANCING EPISODES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WITH SAME COMPLAINT, DEALER COMPLIES ,HAS ACKNOWLEDGED FORD HAS PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE THAT SEEMS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEM SINCE THE FIRST YEAR, AND IT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. INVESTIGATION CONTROL NUMBER WAS ISSUED #118268BH (11/30/98). RAMP FORD HAS BEEN HELPFUL TO US IN THIS MATTER, BUT IT SEEMS THAT FORD HAS NOT PROVIDED THE DEALERSHIP WITH A WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *AK
ON A LOCAL STREET GOING 25 MPH APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR THEN SOMETHING CLICED AND JETISONED WITH SPEED. VEHICLE ENDED UP BETWEEN 2 TREES AND OVERTURNED A COUPLE OF TIMES ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS. *AK
I WAS DRIVING FROM L.A. TO PHOENIX ON 6/13/98. PRIOR TO MY DEPARTURE FROM L.A., ALL OF THE TIRES WERE CHECKED FOR THE DRIVE. THEY WERE ALL IN GOOD CONDITION. AT 9:30AM I WAS DRIVING EAST ON I-10 @ 75MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. THE ROAD BECAME BUMPY AND I SWITCHED LANES. MY VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LUNGED TO THE LEFT AND I REALIZED THAT MY LEFT REAR TIRE HAD BLOWN, AND THE RIM HAD CAUGHT THE PAVEMENT. I WRESTLED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT WHILE HEADING FOR AN OFF-RAMP TO AVOID TRAFFIC & AN UPCOMING OVERPASS. IT FISH-TAILED BACK AND FORTH UNTIL AND BEGAN TO SLIDE SIDEWAYS. IT SLID THROUGH A ROAD SIGN AND THEN ROLLED OVER ENDING UPSIDE DOWN BESIDE THE ROAD, FACING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND I SUFFERED MANY CUTS TO MY HEAD (ALONG WITH MANY STRAINED MUSCLES.) I WAS LUCKY. THE CHP REPORT HELD ME RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CRASH. I CONTENDED AT THE TIME THAT THE BLOW-OUT WAS MORE ABRUPT AND SEVER THAN ANY I HAD EVER EXPERIENCED, AND THAT CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE WITH SUCH AN ABRUPT BLOW AT THAT SPEED WAS IMPOSSIBLE. I DISPUTED THE REPORT. I ALSO COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER, THE DMV AND THE INSURANCE AGENCY. ALL HELD ME RESPONSIBLE AND THE DEALER OFFERED THAT I COULD TRY AND SUE THE TIRE COMPANY. I DIDN'T. AS A RESULT, I LOST A NEW CAR, AND SPENT MANY WEEKS RECUPERATING. MY INSURANCE RATES ALSO INCREASED AS WELL AS RECEIVING A POINT ON MY DRIVERS LICENSE. I DID MANAGE TO HAVE SOME PICTURES TAKEN OF THE FORD & THE BLOWN TIRE FOLLOWING THE CRASH. THE POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN BY CHP OFFICER L. QUATTLEBAUM #12917, REPORT # 98060056. THE ABS LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO ON AND OFF, AND FROM TIME TO TIME DRIVER FEELS A SMALL VIBRATION. *AK
WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE OR LEAVING VEHICLE OVERNIGHT, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START, AND THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR THE CONSUMER. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. *AK
IN FEBRUARY 1998 THE NUMBER 40 AND 50 BEGAN TO DIM IN THE SPEEDOMETER. THE DIMMING HAS SPREAD TROUGHOUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. AFTER SEVERAL REPAIR ATTEMPTS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPLACED IN OCTOBER 1998. THE NEW ONE IS WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO SPREAD. AT THE PRESENT TIME ALL NUMBERS IN THE SPEEDOMETER ARE EITHER DIM OR DO NOT LIGHT UP. THE PROBLEM HAS SPREAD TO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, CONTROLS ON THE DOOR, AND THE RADIO. CONTROLS THT DO NOT LIGHT UP AT ALL ARE POWER WINDOW ADJUSTER ON DOOR, KNOB TO TURN ON LIGHTS, GAUGES FOR CONTROLLING THE LIGHT FOR OFF, LOW, OR HIGH, AND THE KNOB TO ADJUST DIMNESS OF INSTRUMNET CLUSTER. FORD HAD AN ENGINEER TO LOOK AT MARCH 31, 1999. HE CONCLUDED NO REAPIRS WERE NEEDED. THE PROBLEM WORSENS DAILY. I AM NOW GOING THROUGH A CASE WITH A DISPUTE SETTLEMENT BOARD. IF THAT FAILS I WILL HAVE TO CONTACT AN ATTORNEY. FORD REFUSES TO MAKE REPAIRS. RENTAL VEHICLES I HAVE RECEIVED FROM THEM HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD MOTOR COMPNAY CONTINUES TO STATE THEY HAVE SEEN NO OTHER VEHICLE PRODUCED BYTHEM WITH THIS PROBLEM. YOUR DATABASE SUGGESTS OTHERWISE. I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED DUE TO THIS VEHICLE FAILURE. *AK

THROTTLE WOULD STICK. STARTED VEHICLE & SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. VEHICLE SHOT FORWARD. DRIVER HAD COLLAPSED BACKWARDS. TOOK TO DEALER & MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE PROBLEM. CALLED MANUFACTURER. & WAS INFORMED TO KEEP TAKING VEHICLE BACK UNTIL PROBLEM IS FOUND.
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE TUBE FAILED. *YC
BRAKE LAMP AND FOG LAMP FAILED. MJS
EACH TIME I START THE VEHICLE AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT STICKS. THEN IT IS NECESSARY TO STEP ON IT EVEN HARDER. IT EVENTUALLY CATCHES AND THEN I SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD (DEPENDING ON WHETHER I AM IN DRIVE OR REVERSE). THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT I MUST WAIT UNTIL MY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER COMES UP TO GET IT FIXED. IN THE MEANTIME, I JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS? MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.
THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SPEED CONTROL ON '97 EXPLORERS (NHTSA #9054 & 9047). FORD HAS NOT INCLUDED MY VEHICLE; HOWEVER, MY CAR SUFFERS FROM THE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALLS. HOW DO I MAKE FORD FIX THIS PROBLEM. (99V-062001) DENIED REPAIR.
WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH WHEN VEHICLE STALLED. TOOK TO DEALER & INFORMED DEFECTIVE ENGINE & NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HAD NO ANTI-FREEZE. RECEIVED ANOTHER ENGINE OFF MANUFACTURING LINE. ENGINE LASTED 2 WEEKS. HAD PAID HALF. THE 3RD ENGINE REPLACED FREE. THERE IS SOME STALLING IN THIS ENGINE AS WELL. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE FIRESTONE TIRES BLEWOUT AND THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE QUARTER PANEL OF THE VEHICLE (FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT P235/75R15 HAD 17000 MILES ON IT). NLM

WAS DRIVING AND CAR STOPPED WITH A CLICKING SOUND. NO PRIOR WARNING WITH ENGINE LIGHTS, ETC. DEALER CLAIMS FAILURE TO CHANGE OIL RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE AND THAT ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED AND FORD ALSO DENIED CLAIM TO REPLACE SAID ENGINE. *AK
