WENT TO APPLY BREAK PRESSURE DUE TO ANOTHER CAR RUNNING STOP SIGN IN PARKING LOT. WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. LOST BREAK PRESSURE AND COULD BARELY STOP. CHECKED BREAK FLUID WHICH WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. NO BREAK LIGHT NOTICE PRIOR TO INCIDENT INDICATING LOW BREAK FLUID. ASKED FORD DEALERSHIP IF MY CAR WAS SERVICED DUE TO A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS DEFECT. WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL POSSIBLE DUE TO BEING MANUFACTURE AT A DIFFERENT PLANT AND IT INVOLVED REAR BREAKS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH ON A SUNNY DAY HEARD AND FELT A BUMP. SHE OBSERVED FROM THE REARVIEW MIRROR THAT THERE WAS A TIRE IN THE ROAD AND REALIZED IT WAS THE EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE. THERE WAS A BROKEN BOLT FOUND WITH THE TIRE IN THE STREET. THE CONSUMER STATED THE BOLT, CABLE, AND SUSPENSION MECHANISM WAS APPARENTLY RUSTY AND WORN. THE NUMBER OF CYLINDERS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE WAS 82,185 ,AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 82,189. *AK THE CONSUMER PROVIDED THE REPAIR INVOICE. THE DEALER STATED REPLACED FRONT AND REAR BRAKES, ROTORS AND SERVICED CALIPER. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HIS 1999 FORD EXPLORER SPORT AND APPLYING HIS BRAKES AT 10 MPH OR LESS THE ABS KICKED IN. THE BRAKE PEDAL LOST RESISTANCE WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE CAN FEEL THE PEDAL GOING STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS, AND SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING 30 MPH OR MORE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS ABS LIGHT TURNED ON 2 DAYS AGO AND IS STILL ON AND WILL NOT TURN OFF. *JB
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL DROP IN RESERVOIR CORRESPONDING TO BRAKE PAD WEAR, WILL RESULT IN AIR ENTERING BRAKE SYSTEM AND RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKE PEDAL EFFICIENCY, PRIOR TO FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR REACHING THE MIN. LEVEL WHEN VEHICLE IS ON LEVEL GROUND. FLUID WAS FLUSHED/BLED BUT ANTI-LOCK LIGHT REMAINS ON AND BRAKE EFFICIENCY IS NOTICEABLY DETERIORATED. *JB

1998 FORD EXPLORER BRAKES FAILED WHEN TRYING TO APPLY IN TRAFFIC. *TS THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED. THE MECHANIC STATED THE BRAKE LINE WAS NOT MADE WITH THE PROPER MATERIALS. *JB

FOLLOW UP SERVICE (8-16-04) FOR PROBLEM FOUND WARPED ROTORS ON LEFT SIDE, IN WHICH FORD DEALER SERVICE CHARGED FOR REPLACEMENT. (10-15-04) RIGHT SIDE ROTOR NOW EXHIBITING SAME DEFECT. *AK

I PURCHASED MY EXPLORER ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. JUST IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP AT HOMETOWN MOTORS AT LEAST 4 OR 5 TIMES. AND EVERYTIME THEY GET IT IN THEY CHARGE ME A HUNDRED DOLLAR DEDUCTABLE PLUS WHAT THE WARRANTY WON'T COVER. I HAD TO PAY 1300.OO FOR MY WARRANTY AND I HAVE HAD TO PAY ALMOST 700.00 SINCE THEN ON THE WORK FOR EVERYTHING GOING WRONG WITH THE EXPLORER. I HAVE ALL OF MY RECEIPTS BEING GATHERED . WHO CAN I GET AHOLD OF TO TELL THEM ABOUT THIS LEMON THAT I BOUGHT. I CANNOT AFFORD FOR THIS TO KEEP GOING ON.I STILL OWE THE CAR COMPANY ALMOST 300 DOLLARS FROM LAST WEEK WHEN MY EXPLORER WAS IN THE SHOP FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS. FAILURE OF LEFT REAR BRAKE HOSE, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES. THE BRAKE HOSE RUPTURED BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN RUBBING AGAINST THE VENT LINE ON THE REAR AXLE. *NLM
THE ABS HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE FROM L/H FENDER ABS COMPONENT TO R/H FRONT BRAKE ASSEMBLY WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH CAUSED IT TO WEAR. *NLM STEEL BRAKE LINE WAS REPLACED. *TT
DT: NOTICED PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2002. THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BECAUSE THE LIGHT FOR THE AIR BAGS WAS ALWAYS ON. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES. THIS HAPPENED SO OFTEN THAT IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC FOR THE BRAKES BECAUSE THEY WERE MAKING NOISE, AND HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. *AK THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER DOOR LOCK DOES NOT LOCK. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. *NM
CONSUMER EXPERIENCING THUMPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING AND LOSS OF BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS. VEHICLE CHECKED BY DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT ROTORS WERE PITTED (RUSTED FROM INSIDE OUT). AS ROTOR PITTING GOT WORSE, IT CAUSED EXCESSIVE WEAR. DAMAGED TO BRAKE PADS. *AK CONSUMER PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AS BEING DEFECTIVE. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE METAL BEING USED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAUSED THE ROTORS TO RUST. *YH
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED ON JULY 15, 2002, HOWEVER WHILE ON HER WAY HOME THERE WAS STILL A RUBBING/GRINDING NOISE, CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 23, 2002 BECAUSE OF THE CONTINUING NOISE, BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED HE COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, CONSUMER RETURNED AGAIN BECAUSE THE NOISE HAD BECOME WORSE, THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A NOISE WHETHER THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED OR NOT AND WAS VERY APPARENT AT 30 MPH, CONSUMER THEN RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP STATING THAT THEY HAD POSSIBILY RUINED THE BEARINGS WHEN THE ROTORS WERE BEING TURNED, CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE ROTORS WERE IMPROPERLY MACHINED AND IF THEY WERE TO RE-CUT THEM IT WOULD TAKE THEM OUT OF REGULATION THICKNESS, CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE ROTORS, BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT NEEDED UNTIL THEY WERE MACHINED IMPROPERLY.*JB

DEALER STATED "THAT ABS LIGHT BEING ON WOULD NOT AFFECT BRAKE SYSTEM". ON JULY 10, 2001, BRAKES WERE STILL SQUEAKING. CONSUMER LEFT VEHICLE AT DEALER'S FOR A MONTH, AND DEALER STATED THAT ROTORS WERE WARPED, AND PADS WORN OUT. DEALER RESURFACED AND REPLACED PADS FOR BOTH FRONT AND REAR ROTORS ON DEC-20-2000. ALSO, DEALER REPLACED PADS AGAIN ON 4-27-2001. ON 6-29-2001, BRAKES HAD EXCESSIVE BRAKE DUST. DEALER COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM. ON 7-10-2001, DEALER TEST DROVE AND HEARD SQUEAKING. DEALER CUT AND REPLACED ROTORS. BUT, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK
