I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER,WHICH I BOUGHT NEW,THE DEALER HAS PERFORMED ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, NOW HAVE 65,000 MILES AND IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. I UNDERSTAND THIS TO BE A DEFECT WITH THEIR SEALED TRANSMISSION AND FORD WANTS $3800.00 TO REPLACE / REBUILD. I FEEL THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS MATTER. THE VEHICLE CAME WITH A PROBLEM TRANSMISSION, I HAD TO HAVE IS REPAIRED TWICE IN A 7 YEAR PERIOD. *TR
O/D LIGHT COMING ON. TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING OUT. THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN IN SCHOOL AND FOUND OUT THE TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REBUILT. I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS. ANYTHING WILL HELP. PLEASE....... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 35 MPH, BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED WITH CHEMICALS AND MADE A VERY LOUD SOUND THAT SHOCKED THE DRIVER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR TO THE DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS REQUESTED THAT THE COMPUTER BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. FORD COULD NOT OFFER A SOLUTION NOR GUARANTEE THAT THE FAILURE WOULD NOT RECUR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 120,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SPORADICALLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER . WHILE CHANGING THE BRAKE PADS, HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRINGS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER, AND THE AXLES BEARINGS,THE RACK AND PINION, AND THE REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE OF $2140.56. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGE INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR DURING ANY TYPE OF WEATHER CONDITION. THE WIPERS ALSO FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO FRICTION CAUSED BY THE DRY WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS WERE BLOWING OUT OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND THE VEHICLE LOSES COMPLETE POWER. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT THE COST OF $2,000. THE DEALER HAS NOT EXPLAINED WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER WITH 65,000 MILES ON IT, HAVE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING OR USED IT FOR HAULING HEAVY LOADS. I TAKE MY SMALL CHILDREN BACK AND FORTH TO SCHOOL AND DRIVE 15 MILES ROUND TRIP TO WORK 3 DAYS A WEEK. BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS ARE RUSTED AND BROKEN - PASSENGER SIDE BROKEN IN 3 SPOTS, DRIVER'S IN ONE SPOT. THIS HAS RUINED THE REAR STRUTS. CAR IS NOW DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2002 FORD EXPLORER WITH 19,000 MILES ON IT ALSO THINKING WHAT A GREAT DEAL I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK FOR 3 YEARS IT NOW HAS 76,000 MILES ON IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND THE O/D LIGHT WILL START BLINKING I TOW A BOAT SO I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP THEY SAID IT WAS VERY COMMON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN WITH THE YEAR OF TRUCK THAT I HAVE. THEY SAID THE CAUSE WAS SERVO PISTON BORE WHAT EVER THAT MEANS THEY ALSO SAID THAT IF I DON'T REPAIR IT FOR $2,400.00 THAT THE LIGHTS WILL CONTINUE TO COME ON AND THE TRUCK WILL CONTINUE TO SLIP. THE OTHER WEIRD THING IS I'LL BE DRIVING AND I HEAR A DING YOU KNOW THE SOUND YOU HAVE WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN THE TRUCK BUT I'M DRIVING MY TRUCK WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND THE DOOR LOCK WILL GO OFF LIKE I'M LOCKING THE DOORS. I REALLY LOVE MY TRUCK THE BODY IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE I STILL OWE ON MY TRUCK SO BUYING SOMETHING NEW ISN'T AN OPTION. APPROACHED STOP SIGN AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED - BASICALLY COASTING 30 - 40 FEET FROM A DRIVEWAY, AS THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV UP, LIKEN TO THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGING, AND BRAKES COULD NOT RESTRAIN VEHICLE AND IT WAS BASICALLY PUSHED THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND COLLIDED WITH AN ONCOMING VEHICLE, THERE WAS INSUFFICIENT TIME TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL OR TURN OFF THE ENGINE, THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS EVER HAPPENED, VEHICLE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION AND MECHANICALLY WELL MAINTAINED, THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND THE ROADS WERE DRY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE ON-BOARD COMPUTER READ - NO ERROR CODES WERE NOTED, AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT - THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *TR
THE COIL SPRING ON MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER SNAPPED OFF AT THE TOP AND NOW RESTS ATOP MY SWAY BAR. I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING SINCE IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. *TR
WE DROVE OUR 2002 FORD EXPLORER TO VISIT FAMILY 1 HOUR AWAY WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. AFTER WE ARRIVED WE NEEDED TO MAKE A QUICK TRIP TO THE STORE AND THE CAR DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT OFF THE BLOCK BEFORE THE OD LIGHT BLINKED AND THE CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS. IT WOULDN'T GET PASSED 20 OR 25 MPH. WE HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE AND GET A RIDE ALL THE WAY HOME. THE NEAREST TRANSMISSION SHOP FIXED THE TRANSMISSION FOR ABOUT $1000 WITH A 6 MONTH WARRANTY. I HOPE IT LASTS AND THAT FORD WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM SOON. *TR
THE REAR PANEL BELOW THE REAR WINDOW OF MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER CRACKED. WHILE IN THE CAR WASH, TWO THIRDS OF THE REAR PANEL FELL OFF THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT AND THAT FORD HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE THE BEARINGS REPLACED DUE TO PROBLEMS THAT MANY HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND RESPECTIVE YEARS. ONCE THE BEARINGS WERE REPLACED I NOTICED MORE ISSUES WITH THE "SLIPPING" TRANSMISSION THAT MANY MANY MANY MORE HAVE ALREADY LODGED COMPLAINTS AGAINST. WHAT IS BEING DONE? WHEN CAN WE EXPECT ANSWERS? *TR
FORD EXPLORER TRANSMISSIONS SLIPPING AND GOING OUT WILL GET U KILLED IF U PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND IT STARTS SLIPPING AND WANT GO SOMEONE MAY HIT U AND GET U KILLED. *TR
MY SUV WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. I PUSHED THE REAR WINDOW RELEASE BUTTON TO OPEN THE REAR WINDOW AND IT EXPLODED. GLASS FRAGMENTS WERE FOUND UP TO 12 FEET IN ALL DIRECTIONS. THE NOISE IT MADE WAS LOUD, LIKE A SHOT GUN HAD GONE OFF. A PROFESSIONAL AUTO MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY REAR WINDOW REGULATOR MUST HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. CLEARLY THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT FORD SHOULD RECTIFY AND FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF ANYONE OWNING/USING THIS VEHICLE. I'M CURRENTLY SEARCHING FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED THAT HAS HAD CONTINUOUS REAR AXLE LEAKING AND OPERATING ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THE BEARINGS REPLACED THREE TIMES, THE SHAFT AXLE SEAL REPLACED, THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY REPLACED AND THE SPINDLE REPLACED. I HAD THIS WORK DONE AT CORTESE AUTO GROUP IN HENRIETTA NY (585-475-1211) IN JUNE OF 2007 AND APRIL OF 2008. I JUST NOTICED DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEAKING FROM THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY AREA ON MARCH 16, 2009 AND CALLED THE CORTESE GROUP TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HONOR THEIR PREVIOUS REPAIR. THEY ADVISED ME THAT I WAS BEYOND THE "ORIGINAL PROBLEM" 2007 REPAIR DATE AND THE COST WAS ON MY OWN. TO REPAIR THIS LEAKY AXLE SEAL WILL COST ME IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $400 AND CONSIDERING THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, I FEEL FORD MOTOR COMPANY OR CORTESE SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH NO COST TO ME. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND IT APPEARS THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON AMONG FORD EXPLORERS (HAD I KNOWN THAT AT THE TIME OF MY PURCHASE, I WOULD HAVE RECONSIDERED BUYING FROM FORD). IF THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON AMONG FORD EXPLORERS AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE, WHY IS IT NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL AND REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE VEHICLE? PLEASE ADVISE ME WHAT MY RIGHTS ARE AND IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE ON BEHALF OF OTHER AFFECTED CONSUMERS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BEARINGS AND GEAR OF THE UNIVERSAL REAR DIFFERENTIAL UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A LOUD CLANG FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I FELT THE BACK OF THE CAR DROP. LUCKILY, I WAS ONLY ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM HOME SO I DROVE IT HOME. LOOKING UNDER THE CAR ONCE I GOT IT HOME IT WAS IMMEDIATELY NOTICEABLE THAT THE DRIVER SIDE REAR COIL SPRING HAD JUST SNAPPED. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN USED FOR TOWING OR GOING OFF ROAD; IT IS STRICTLY A HIGHWAY VEHICLE. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE PROBLEM, HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY OR THE TURNPIKE IT COULD HAVE BLOWN OUT MY BACK TIRE CAUSING A WRECK. BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS AND STRUTS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED NOW. *TR

I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION IN MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CAR HAS 76,000 MILES AND THE O/D LIGHT FLASHES AND 2ND GEAR IS A MESS. IT STARTED OUT OF NO WHERE. I AM A HARD WORKING SELF EMPLOYED MAN WHO TRY'S TO STAND BY AMERICAN MADE, BUT I AM ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS THAT FORD HAS LET THIS ISSUE GO. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS AND THE TIRE ROD AND BARRING HAVE ALREADY WENT BAD. AS WELL AS THE TRANSFER CASE FOR THE 4X4 HAS WENT OUT AS WELL. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN FORD ASK THE GOVERNMENT TO BAIL THEM OUT WHEN THE VERY PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED THEIR PRODUCT KEEP GETTING STUCK WITH THE BILL COMING AND GOING. I WILL TAKE THIS COMPLAINT TO MY STATE REPRESENTATIVE IN AN EFFORT TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS BEFORE GETTING ONE TAX DOLLAR FROM HONEST HARD WORKING AMERICANS. *TR
WHEEL HUBS ESPECIALLY THE REAR - CONSTANTLY GOING BAD USUALLY 12 MONTHS OR LESS- REAR DIFFERENTIAL VENTED WITH HOSE OVER REAR TIRE. CAUSES WATER TO GET INTO GEARS - MAJOR PROBLEM. I HAVE AN 02 EXPLORER WITH 70K MILES ON IT AND THE O/D LIGHT AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ARE BOTH ON. I WAS TOLD THAT 2ND AND 5TH SHIFTS ARE GONE AND THAT I SHOULD REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. 2002 EXPLORER STARTED OUT WITH ALOT OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND NOW DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU PUSH IN THE GAS PEDAL THE TRANSMISSION STARTS SLIPPING. JUST LIKE ALOT OF OTHER COMPLAINTS. HAD SOME SIMILAR TROUBLE WITH IT ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO DEALER SAID HAD TO WAIT TILL IT GOT WORSE TO FIND EXACT PROBLEM. *TR
HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS WITH MY FORD EXPLORER ATTEMPTING TO RUN OFF PARKWAY AT 65 MPH AFTER WHEEL BEARING FAILURE. HAVE HAD TO REPLACE WHEEL BEARINGS 6 TIMES FROM 100,000 TO 102,000 MILES.THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DUE TO FAILURE OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE WITH NO PRIOR NOTICE OF ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE BEARINGS UNTIL COMPLETE FAILURE . EVEN THE REPLACEMENT PARTS AFTER INSTALLATION HAVE FAILED AFTER LESS THAN 1000 MILES. *TR

WHILE SHIFTING GEARS, THE RPMS WOULD ACCELERATE VERY HIGH AND THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK AND PERFORM AS IF IT WERE IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED AND INDICATED THAT THE SOLENOIDS WERE FAULTY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 99,000.

I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED V-8, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WITH 47,100 MILES. I STARTED TO NOTICE A CLATTERING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. IT APPEARS THEY ARE SELLING CARS WITH A DEFECT GEAR SHIFT. YESTERDAY AS I SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THE GEAR SHIFT BROKE OFF. IT SIMPLE CAME OFF. I'VE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM AND FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT ON INTERNET AUTO COMPLAINT BLOGS. ACCORDING TO THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER HE HAS PICKED UP 6 OR 7 EXPLORERS IN THE SAN ANTONIO AREA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IN RECENT MONTHS.
