GRINDING NOISE FROM REAR ESPECIALLY DRIVER SIDE REAR HUMMING AND SWAYING BROUGHT TO DEALER REPLACED REAR HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLIES BOTH SIDES REPLACED FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS AND BUSHINGS BOTH SIDES. *TR
POTENTIAL LOST LEFT WHEEL DUE TO FAILING WHEEL BEARING. *TR
HEARD LOUD ROARING NOISE COMING FROM BACK REAR TIRES. HAD EXPLORER CHECKED TO FIND OUT THAT RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS ALMOST READY TO COME OFF EXPLORER. AFTER DOING SOME LOOKING AROUND ON THE WEB I FOUND OUT THAT MANY OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS ARE ALSO HAVING THESE HUBS/BEARINGS WEARING OUT VERY EARLY (50-70K MILES). THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE EXPLORERS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THANK YOU *TR
IN LATE JANUARY, 2008 SOMETHING STRUCK THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION COOLER OF MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT AN OBJECT HAD PENETRATED BOTH OF THESE CAUSING COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKAGE. THE ENGINE LOCKED UP AND THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER REPLACED MY ENGINE AND SOME PARTS IN MY TRANSMISSION. SINCE THEN MY TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED NUMEROUS TIMES HAVING TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. WHEN THE FAILURES OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WILL RAPIDLY SLOW TO A STOP IN MID TRAFFIC. I HAVE BEEN ALMOST STRUCK IN THE REAR EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FORD DEALER THAT REPAIRED MY TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $2000 WILL DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM ESPECIALLY NOW THAT TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE HAS OCCURRED. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS A DEPUTY SHERIFF FOR 16 YEARS. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND A SEVERE TRAFFIC HAZARD. PLEASE HELP ALL MOTORISTS BY FORCING FORD TO RECALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS AND REPLACE THEM. *TR

THE REAR WINDOWS WAS RECALLED AND THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. NOW THE BACK WINDOW FAILED AS I AM TOLD BY THE FORD DEALER HAS CRACKED. AFTER SOME SEARCHING I SEE THIS IS PRETTY COMMON AFTER THE REPAIR. I BOUGHT A 2002 FORD EXPLORER IN JULY OF 2007 IN JAN OF THE NEXT YEAR OUR O/D LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND WE LOST 3RD GEAR. SO WE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER GETTING ONLINE AND SEEING HUNDREDS OF OTHER PROBLEMS THAT ARE ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME ITS HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHY FORD WON'T ISSUE A RECALL, THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE TO DRIVE 3 KIDS AROUND IN AND WE ARE STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON SOMETHING THAT JUST SITS BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT.
2002 FORD EXPLORER WITH AN O/D LIGHT FLASHING AND NOW A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ON. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REBUILT. ONLY 46000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. ONLY CHANGED EVERY 3000. EXTENDED WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED ON DEC 13, 2007 AFTER 5 YEARS. UPDATED *TR
THIS IS MY WIFE"S 02' 4X4 V8 EXPLORER,WE BROUGHT IT NEW AND NOW HAVE 78,000 MILES IN IT,AT FIRST I HEARD SOME NOISE I THOUGHT IT CAME FROM THE TIRES THAT PRETTY WORN OUT SO I WENT TO CHANGE OUT THE NEW TIRES WHILE I WAS IN THE SHOP AND WAIT I ASK THE GUY CAN I GO IN THERE TO CHECK OUT THE BRAKE PADS I NOTICE THE REAR SPRINGS BROKE???? THE MORE SEARCHING I DID THE MORE THING I FIND OUT, WHEEL BEARING??? NO MORE FORD....... *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PER MANUFACTURES RECOMMENDATIONS. IT IS NOT USED OFF ROAD AND RUN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. WITH NO WARNING AND NO PREVIOUS NOISE THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL HUB/BEARING FAILED. THE BEARING CAME APART AND THE WHEEL WAS SO LOOSE IT WAS WALKING 1-2 INCHES SIDE TO SIDE. HAD MY WIFE NOT BEEN DRIVING SLOWLY THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A HORRIFIC WRECK. LUCKILY SHE WAS CLOSE TO A SHOP WHEN IT HAPPENED. I HAVE NOT FIXED IT AS OF YET BUT AM IN THE PROCESS NOW. I KNOW I WILL NEED A HUB, BEARING AND THE BRAKES WERE KNOCKED OUT BY THE WALKING MOTION. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS. I SEE ON THE INTERNET WHERE A LOT OF INDIVIDUALS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
NOISE LIKE UNBALANCED TIRE COMING FROM LEFT FRONT TIRE/WHEEL. NOISE INCREASES UNTIL IT BECOMES A ROAR LIKE AN AIRPLANE TAKING OFF. STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO VIBRATE. FEELS LIKE WHEEL IS GOING TO FALL OFF CAR. MECHANIC TELLS ME LEFT FRONT HUB AND BEARINGS MUST BE REPLACED. THE THREE OTHER WHEELS ARE ALSO SYMPTOMATIC BUT NOT AS IMMEDIATELY PRESSING AS LEFT FRONT HE DOES NOT THINK BUT WON'T KNOW UNTIL REPAIR IS COMPLETED LATER TODAY. REPAIR BALL PARK COST AT THIS TIME IS $600-$700. STILL, OTHER THREE WHEELS BEARINGS/HUBS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. CAR HAS 70,000 MILES, HAS RECEIVED ALL RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE AND HAS HAD CITY DRIVING. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT IT. THEY SAY THAT ONLY YOU CAN ISSUE A RECALL. 2002 FORD EXPLORER. PULLING OUT ONTO MAJOR HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GET OUT OF 2ND GEAR. VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND SERVICED UP TO FACTORY SUGGESTED STANDARDS. TAKEN TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOTHING EXCEPT SUGGEST A REBUILT FORD TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOLDING ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
2002 EXPLORER REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WHEN MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CLOSED THE TOP LIFT GATE. REAR WINDOW RECALL WAS PERFORMED IN 8/2007 FORD WILL NOT COVER COST ($1,400.00) FOR REPAIR. *TR
2002 EDDIE BAUER EXPLORER TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TYPE 5R55W STARTED TO SLIP AND THE VEHICLE HAS 110,000 MI. NEXT MY O/D DASH LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH AND THEN THE CHECK TRANSMISSION LIGHT WENT ON. DEALER STATED IT WAS JUST A BAD SOLENOID REPLACEMENT COST OF $1,000 OR WORSE? SECOND OPINION STATED THAT THERE IS A BURIED CODE IN THE DIAGNOSTIC ABOUT THE OVERDRIVE WASN'T WORKING AND THE TEST DRIVE BY MECH. NOTED THAT 5TH GEAR WASN'T WORKING. THE INDEPENDENT MECH. STATED THAT HE WAS SORRY WHEN HE FOUND OUT IT WAS AN EXPLORER BECAUSE HE HAS A LOT OF THIS WORK. THE TRANSMISSION WAS OVERHAULED TO THE SUM OF $2,710. SAFETY CONCERN? WELL YOU HAVE YOUR FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY WHILE YOUR TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING OR WORSE. TO ME THIS IS AS BIG AS A SAFETY ITEM AS THEIR BACK GLASS LIFT GATE THEY RECALLED. OR THEIR ROLL OVER ISSUE FOR THAT MATTER. SO I MAY BE ONE PERSON BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO TYPE IN THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ARE INCREDIBLE. OK SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. SO GO TO THEIR TSB AND THIS IS LITTERED WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THIS IS CLEARLY A FAULTY TRANSMISSION FROM THE START BUT APPARENTLY CONSUMER COMPLAINTS HAVE NOT BEEN ENOUGH FOR FORD TO DO THE RIGHT THING HERE. I WOULD ASK THAT THE NHTSA DO WHAT IS IN THEIR POWER TO REQUEST FORD TO DO THE RIGHT THING HERE AND REIMBURSE US FOR FIXING AN OBVIOUS AND DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW. *TR
THE GEARSHIFT LEVER BROKE OFF WHILE SHIFTING INTO PARK. NO EXCESSIVE PRESSURE WAS EXERTED AT THIS TIME OR ANY OTHER TO MY KNOWLEDGE. FORTUNATELY THIS OCCURRED IN MY DRIVEWAY BUT I FEAR THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE HAPPENED DURING A GEAR CHANGE ON THE ROAD (FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, OR VICE VERSA IN A TRAFFIC SITUATION). MY REPAIR SHOP SAID THE PARTS TO REPAIR THIS WERE BACK ORDERED, APPARENTLY DUE TO FREQUENT FAILURES. *TR
STRESS FRACTURE RUNNING VERTICALLY ALONG PLASTIC PANEL OF LIFTGATE DIRECTLY UNDER BACK WINDOW APPEARED. THE CRACK IS LOCATED TO THE LEFT OF THE FORD EMBLEM RUNNING FROM THE GLASS THE LENGTH OF THE PANEL. NO FORCE OF ANY KIND WAS APPLIED TO THE AREA TO CAUSE THIS CRACK. I LIVE IN A COLD WEATHER CLIMATE WITH RAIN AND SNOW AND AM NOW WORRIED ABOUT WATER GETTING INSIDE AND EFFECTING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. SINCE THIS IS A COMMONLY DOCUMENTED PROBLEM, THAT COULD LEAD TO FURTHER MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS, FORD SHOULD REPLACE THE PANEL. *TR
FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS DURING THE COLDEST PART OF THE WINTER, THE DOORS ON MY VEHICLE REFUSE TO LATCH. I HAVE TRIED WARMING THE CAR UP LONGER, SPRAYING THE INSIDES OF THE DOOR WITH SOLUTION THAT IS SUPPOSED TO UNFROZEN WINDSHIELDS AND LOCKS (EVEN THOUGH THERE NEVER IS ICE OR WATER SEEN) & NOTHING WORKS. LAST YEAR, IT EVEN REFUSED TO LATCH AFTER LETTING MY DAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL, EVEN THOUGH IT HAD LATCHED WHEN WE LEFT THE HOUSE A MILE EARLIER. WHEN I TURNED THE CORNER OUT OF THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT, THE DOOR FLEW OPEN & ALMOST TOOK OUT A MAILBOX. I HAVE CALLED FORD REGARDING THIS CONCERN, & THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO SINCE IT HAS 119,000 MILES ON IT & THE WARRANTY IS OVER, EVEN THOUGH I BELIEVE IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN! AS IT IS GETTING COLDER HERE, I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, AS MY DAUGHTER AND YOUNG GRANDSON ARE USING THIS VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY WORKS AT THE FORD FACTORY & HE SAID THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE DOORS NOT BEING FITTED CORRECTLY & IN THE WINTER THE SEAL IS. *TR
VEHICLE MILEAGE: 69,000. LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM REAR OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. NO PREVIOUS WARNING. REQUIRED TOW. REPLACED 2 CRACKED REAR SPRINGS, 2 DAMAGED STRUTS, 2 REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. UNUSUAL AND DANGEROUS INCIDENT FOR THIS MILEAGE. WE NOW KNOW IT IS A "NOTORIOUS PROBLEM" - OLD PARTS AVAILABLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AFTER HAVING MY FRONT BEARINGS DONE ON MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE BACK OF MY TRUCK. IT FELT AS THOUGH MY LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS GOING FALL OFF. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $705 DOLLARS. I COULD HAVE DIED FROM THIS AND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE BEARINGS. WITH A VERY LIMITED BUDGET I AM NOT ABLE TO HAVE THE PART FIXED AND THIS WILL LEAD TO ME MISSING TIME AT WORK. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE FORD REFUSES TO DO SO AND THERE IS GOING BE A SERIOUS INJURY FROM THIS. I BOUGHT MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER USED IN 2005 WITH ABOUT 60,000 MILES ON IT. IN 6 MONTHS THE ENTIRE CAR WOULD SHAKE IF I WENT ABOVE 50 MILES PER HOUR. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I FELT THE CAR SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT 3RD GEAR WAS ALREADY GONE AND THAT I WAS GOING TO SOON LOSE 2ND AND SO ON. I HAD TO SPEND $2000 ON A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, ALMOST 2 1/2 YEARS LATER THIS REBUILT TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AGAIN. THIS TIME THE OD LIGHT STARTED TO BLINK; I HAD A GARAGE GET THE CODE IMMEDIATELY. IT SAID THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER. I HAD THEM LOOK AT THE TRANSMISSION CLOSER AND THEY FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS BURNT AND THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN IT. THE TRANSMISSION IS FRIED AGAIN, AND IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $3200 TO FIX IT THIS TIME. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THESE PROBLEMS OFTEN COME WITH NO WARNING. BOTH INCIDENTS I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT IN THE SEALED TRANSMISSIONS PUT IN THE 2002 EXPLORERS!!! *CN
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE WHEN LOUD NOISE CAME FROM THE TRANSMISSION. RPM'S WENT UP DRASTICALLY. TRANNY LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN STARTING AND STOPPING THE TRUCK THE TRANSMISSION WOULD MAKE A HORRIBLE METAL SOUND. HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT FOR 1 MONTH DUE TO HAVING TO GO GET A LOAN TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. TOOK TO AAMCO WHICH STATED TODAY THAT THE TRANNY NEEDS TO BE TOTALLY OVERHAULED AT $2400. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR WRANGLER RT/S, SIZE P265/70/R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45-50 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE FAILED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WERE SEVERE CRACKS AROUND THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRES AND THEY ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FIRST TIRE THAT FAILED HAD SEVERE TREAD SEPARATION. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,481 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,562. UPDATED 02-12-BF08 * THE CONSUMER STATED FORD REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITH WRANGLER GOODYEAR RT/S DOT MD70 D5HR, MTS P245/75R16 AND CHARGED $100 FOR THE NEW TIRES. UPDATED 02/12/08 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM WHAT SHE BELIEVED TO BE THE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE. SHE PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR A WHILE AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE NOISE WENT FROM A LOUD HUMMING NOISE TO A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE. THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER, AND BEGAN TO PULL. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND REALIZED THAT THE REAR AXLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE BECAUSE SHE COULD NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR. FORD WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.
WENT TO OPEN LIFTGATE WHEN PARKED IN THE DARK AND CUT HAND ON CRACKED PANEL. CALLED FORD, THEY ARE AWARE THAT THE PLASTIC PANELS ARE CRACKING IN THE COLD/HOT TEMP CHANGES BUT ARE NOT RECALLING THEM. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO (SEPT 07), STARTING HEARING A WHINING OR TINNING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR. AS THE WEEKS/MONTHS WENT BY, IT STARTING GETTING LOUDER AND IT STARTED SOUNDING LIKE AN AIRPLANE FLYING OVERHEAD. I TOOK IT INTO THE REPAIR SHOP, MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY. ABOUT $575 TO REPAIR. HAD THE REPAIR DONE IN DECEMBER 07/JANUARY 08. I DON'T DO ANY TOWING, THE CAR IS MAINLY USED ON THE WEEKENDS. I HAVE 62K MI. ON THE CAR, BARELY EVEN 10K A YEAR. NOW, HERE IT IS, 2 MONTHS LATER, AND THE SAME THING STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP. NOW, IT'S THE LEFT REAR HUB ASSEMBLY THAT WENT BAD. ANOTHER $575 !! THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC SAID THE WHEELS COULD COME OFF AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD (JUST TURNED 7 TODAY), AND ONE ON THE WAY !! THIS CAR IS OUR MAIN MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR TRIPS AND VACATIONS AND I CANNOT RISK THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY OR THE LIVES OF OTHERS, IF THIS CAR FAILS ON THE HIGHWAY. CRACK ON REAR HATCH OF VEHICLE, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT IT HAS HAPPENED. FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED AT OUR COST. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS COMING ON AND OFF. FINALLY I TOOK IT FOR INSPECTION AND IT DIDN'T PASS BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE CONCERN. CURRENTLY OWN A 2002 EXPLORER XLT WITH ONLY 65K MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NEED OF A REBUILD BECAUSE IS SLIP FROM TIME TO TIME. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SEALS ARE LEAKING. THE ENTIRE REAR OF THE VEHICLE MAKES A HUMMING NOISE SO I SUSPECT THAT A REAR BEARING IS GOING BAD. NOT TO MENTION THE 4WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM HAS NOT WORKED SINCE I BOUGHT IT A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO. 2002 FORD EXPLORER FRONT AND REAR WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT. BACK RIGHT WHEEL BEARING FAILED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE AXLE, BREAKS AND WHEEL DRUM. FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEARING FAILED. IN BOTH OCCASIONS NOISES WERE HEARD. IN REGARDS TO BE BACK WHEEL BEARING THE TIRE ALMOST CAME OFF AND THE WHEEL FROZE. THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER HAS A HISTORY ON INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS THAT THE FORD DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE. THEREFORE NO REPAIRS HAVE EVER TAKEN PLACE. 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2004 AND SHORTLY AFTER THE O/D LIGHT WAS BLINKING SETTING OFF THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO FORD, THEY CLAIMED IT WAS A SOLENOID THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST BECAUSE IT WAS NOT COVERED IN THE WARRANTY. AFTER A HIGH PRICED REPAIR, THE O/D LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WITHIN A MONTH'S TIME. I RETURNED TO HAVE THEM REPAIR IT AGAIN ON THE REPAIR WARRANTY FROM THE PRIOR FIX AND THE O/D LIGHT CAME ON STILL AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN A MAJOR DRAIN ON MY FINANCES AND NOW I HAVE SEEN THAT THE O/D LIGHT IS THE SECOND-HIGHEST COMPLAINT ON THIS MODEL AND MAKE OF VEHICLE. FORD CONTINUES TO CLAIM THAT IT IS AN ODDITY AND UNRELATED TO THE MAKE AND MODEL. COMPLAINANT HAS HAD DIFFICULTY SHIFTING INTO PARK SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED IN DECEMBER 2007. DECEMBER 2008 JUST AFTER CHRISTMAS VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS DOWN A SLIGHT INCLINED DRIVEWAY. 2002 CRACK ON HATCHBACK PANEL UNDER REAR WINDOW. ON DECEMBER 26, 2007 I WENT INTO MY GARAGE AND NOTICED 2 CRACKS, ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE FORD EMBLEM, EACH ABOUT 3 TO 4 INCHES LONG. I KNOW FOR SURE THEY WERE NOT THERE THE NIGHT BEFORE BECAUSE WE HAD TAKEN SOME PACKAGES OUT OF THE HATCHBACK, AND THERE WERE NO CRACKS. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER HAS A FAULTY MANUFACTURED HATCHBACK. WHEN I SEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE WEB, IT WAS SURPRISING TO FIND OUT THAT IT HAD THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS THAN ANY OTHER EXTERIOR COMPLAIN. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. ONCE THE CRACKS RUN DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PANEL THERE IS BIG POTENTIAL THAT THE WINDOW WILL FALL OUT. THIS LEAVES THE WINDOW AT RISK TO FALL OUT AND INJURE SOMEONE. *TR
THE PAINT ON MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER WAS PEELING OFF THE PANELS BETWEEN THE WINDOWS AFTER 3 YEARS (AND IT'S PRIMARILY PARKED IN MY GARAGE). AFTER CONTACTING FORD AND APPEALING TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS FOR ASSISTANCE, I DECIDED I COULD LIVE WITH IT BECAUSE IT WAS COSMETIC FLAW EVEN THOUGH THE DEALERS ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. HOWEVER, ON DEC 26, 2007, I WENT OUT TO MY CAR IN THE MORNING WHILE OUT OF TOWN,AND NOTICED A THREE INCH CRACK IN THE BODY OF THE REAR HATCH, JUST TO THE RIGHT OF THE FORD LOGO. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF BEING CLOSED TOO HARD OR ANY OTHER LOGICAL CAUSE. IT JUST CRACKED ON ITS OWN. I CALLED FORD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THAT I WOULD NEED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR AN ESTIMATE. I COMPLIED WITH THIS REQUEST AND TOOK IT IN. THE DEALERS SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT AT ONE TIME, THERE HAD BEEN FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR THIS REPAIR, BUT NOT ANYMORE. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. SO FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT WILL DO NOTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, BUT SINCE I TOOK CARE OF MY VEHICLE BY PARKING IT OUT OF THE ELEMENTS, IT DID NOT MANIFEST UNTIL THE CAR WAS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS POSES A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE CRACKED PLASTIC IS A BIT SHARP AND I DO NOT WISH TO CUT MY HAND WHEN CLOSING THE DOOR. *TR
