CRACKED LIFT GATE/ UPPER HALF. *TR
I OWN A 2002 FORD RANGER XLT PICK-UP TRUCK. IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR, 2007, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR A SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. WITHIN TWO WEEKS I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REQUESTED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. I DID, AND UPON ARRIVAL I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART TO FIX/COMPLY WITH THE RECALL. I HAD A FEW CHOICE WORDS WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO WAIT FOR A CALL CONCERNING THE PARTS ARRIVAL. I WAITED, WAITED AND WAITED, AND STILL NO CALL. I HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD PLACE THREE TIMES SINCE AUGUST OF 2007. I STILL, AS OF NOVEMBER 25, 2007, DO NOT HAVE A REPAIRED TRUCK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL. ALL OF THE NUMBERS ON THE RECALL SHEET POINT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING ELSE. I HAVE NO OTHER AVENUE EXCEPT THIS ONE. I JUST WANT MY TRUCK REPAIRED FOR THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY FAMILY. PLEASE ASSIST ME IN RESOLVING THIS ISSUE, AS SAFETY SHOULD BE PRIORITY ONE IN ANY AUTO MAKERS MIND. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD PRODUCT AND I AM NOT PLEASED WITH THEIR CAPACITY TO HANDLE SUCH A CRISIS AS A FIRE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. I HOPE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS AND THE AVENUES THEY HAVE PROVIDED SHOW ONLY A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY WITHIN ALL FORD PRODUCTS. MY TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED WHICH WILL COST $3800. PLUS $500.FOR THE COST OF A RENTAL CAR. 2ND TIME TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE WORKED ON. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR. CAR IS MAINTAINED EVERY 3000 MILES@A FORD DEALERSHIP. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH OVERDRIVE LIGHT BLINKING. *TR
NOISE AND FLUID LEAKAGE IN REAR DIAGNOSED BY LOCAL MECHANIC AS FAILING WHEEL BEARING AND DIFFERENTIAL SEAL. REPLACED DIFFERENTIAL SEAL AND ONE REAR WHEEL BEARING AT 57,000 MILES. AT 69,000 REPLACED ONE FRONT WHEEL BEARING BECAUSE OF NOISE. AT 80,000 MECHANIC REPORTED THAT BOTH REAR SPRINGS HAD CORRODED AT THEIR UPPER ENDS AND CRACKED THROUGH. BOTH THESE ISSUES ARE COMMON ON 2002 MODELS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS IN THE DATA BASE. *TR
TIRE STEM FAILURE ON 3 OF 4 STAMPEDE RADIAL SUV TIRES. I GOT 2 FLAT TIRES IN THE SPAN OF 5 DAYS AND CAUGHT THE 3RD STEM BEFORE A FLAT TIRE OCCURRED (IT WAS CRACKED AT THE BASE). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRASTICALLY DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT EXCEED SPEEDS OF 20 MPH. SHE HEARD A LOUD WINDING NOISE, BUT NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, BUT SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT PARTS WERE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE HER FOR THE REPAIRS. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78,000.
2002 FORD EXPLORER "SEALED" TRANSMISSION FAILURE. REGULAR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED, TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. *TR
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL REACTIVATION PROBLEMS TO FORD TRUCK. *TR
1. I TOOK OUR 2002 EXPLORER IN FOR THE RECALL OF THE BACK WINDOW. WHEN THEY INSTALLED IT THEY PUT A SMALL CRACK IN PANEL IN THE BACK BELOW THE WINDOW. 2. THE CRACK GREW UNTIL FINALLY THE WHOLE PANEL CRACKED IN HALF. THE EDGE IS QUITE SHARP AND THE PANEL IS A BIT LOOSE NOW. 3. FORD REFUSED TO FIX IT. WE TRACK 2002 EXPLORERS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND THAT 1/6 HAVE IT. I SAW ANOTHER TODAY PROMPTING ME TO SEND THIS. 2002 FORD EXPLORER TRANSMISSION FAILURE. DURING NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS, TRANSMISSION SLIPS, O/D LIGHT FLASHES, VEHICLE COASTS TO A STOP. CAUSES TRAFFIC DELAYS, INCREASES CHANCES FOR MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENTS. *TR
PURCHASED USED 2002 FORD EXPLORER FROM ORIGINAL OWNER. AFTER INSPECTING VEHICLE GOOD, I FOUND THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS LEAKING AND FLUID VERY DIRTY; APPEARS TO HAVE METAL FILINGS. CAN HEAR LOUD RUMBLE AND WHINE WHILE DRIVING. I UNERSTAND THAT COST IS ABOUT $1,600 TO REPAIR. I ALSO UNDERSTAND NOW THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH 2002 AND 2003 FORD EXPLORERS, AND THAT FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY WITH THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED OUT OF THE BLUE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, HAD THIS BEEN A HIGHWAY, CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN DIRE. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AND NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. ACCORDING TO RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE VEHICLES. *JB
MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER HAD A FAILED TUBE MOUNTED "DIFFERENTIAL PRESSUE FEEDBACK FROM EGR" (DPFE) SENSOR AFTER 30K MILES. FORD CREATED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) REGARDING THIS KNOW ISSUE AFFECTING SEVERAL 2000-2003 FORD MODELS INCLUDING THE 2002 EXPLORER (SEE FORD TSB 04-11-1 MAY 25, 2004 ). HOWEVER, WHEN FORD TURNED THIS ISSUE OF THE FAULTY DPFE SENSOR INTO A RECALL, OR "FIELD SERVICE ACTION" (FSA) AS THEY CALL IT, THEY DID NOT INCLUDE THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER IN THE DPFE RECALL. ALL VEHICLES INCLUDED IN FSA 02M01 WERE GIVEN AN EXTENDED 2YR/24K MILE WARRANTY ON THE DPFE SENSOR. THE 2002 EXPLORER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE 2002 EXPLORER WAS INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL TSB ON THIS ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT THE 2002 EXPLORER WAS KNOW TO USE THE SAME TUBE MOUNTED DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SENSOR AS ALL THE VEHICLES INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE PROBLEM IS MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER REAR WINDOW LIFTGATE, MY PANEL BELOW THE REAR WINDOW IS CRACKING FOR NO REASON, I DO NOT USE IS PART OF THE LIFTGATE, AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND OVER 100 OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A DESIGN AND ENGINEERING SAFETY PROBLEM THAT WILL ALLOW THE REAR WINDOW TO FALLOUT OR EXPLODE WHEN OPERATING THE DOOR OR NORMAL DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE . FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD REPLACE THE PANELS AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER OF 2002 AND UP FORD EXPLORER WITH THIS TAILGATE DESIGN. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED FORD RECALL NOTICE NUMBER 05S28 FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL IN AUGUST OF 2007. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE IN JUNE OF 2008. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL HAS GONE BEYOND A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE REPAIR TO PERFORMED. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
AT 105K MILES THE CAR JUST DIED. NEW TRANSMISSION NEEDED. THEY INSTALLED/REINSTALLED THE NEW TRANSMISSION THREE TIMES BEFORE IT WORKED PROPERLY. *TR
2002 FORD EXPLORER - BOTH REAR SPRINGS RUSTED AND CRACKED. ONE IN 2006 AND THE OTHER IN 2007. THIS VEHICLE DRIVEN BY WIFE AND NOT OFF ROAD OR FOR TOWING. ON THE NET THERE ARE MANY, MANY OWNERS WITH SAME EXACT PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN BUT MANUFACTURE WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
BROKEN REAR SPRINGS, TWO UPPERMOST COILS COLLAPSED ON BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDES. I NOTICED IT WHEN I WAS CHANGING THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS IN AUGUST 2007. FROM THE RUST, IT APPEARS THAT THE SPRINGS HAVE BEEN BROKEN FOR A WHILE. HAVE YET TO REPLACE SINCE IT DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE EFFECTED HANDLING, BUT INTEND TO DO IT THIS FALL JUST TO BE SAFE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE DRIVER APPLIED MAXIMUM PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH SLOWED DOWN AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
REPEAT FAILURE OF BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, CRUISE CONTROL WON'T DISENGAGE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ,AN UNSAFE SITUATION. ALSO INTERMITTENT INABILITY TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND BRAKE LIGHTS NOT OPERATING. *TR

TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING HARD & THEN THE OD OFF LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT DAY, THE TRANSMISSION JUST QUIT. I PARKED AT A GROCERY STORE, RAN IN & WHEN I CAME BACK OUT TO LEAVE, IT WOULDN'T SHIFT. IT REMAINED IN PARK EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SHIFT WAS BEING MOVED THROUGH THE GEARS. I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP & HAD THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. IT WAS FULL OF METAL. I WAS GOING TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED FOR THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE BUT NEVER GOT THE CHANCE. AT 72,000 MILES, IT WAS REBUILT FOR $1800 PLUS THE $180 TOWING FEE. IF I HAD MORE WARNING, I MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CATCH IT BEFORE THE WHOLE THING WENT BAD, BUT THE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. I HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE, NO OFF-ROADING, ROUGH DRIVING, OR ANYTHING. NEVER SO MUCH AS A HICCUP UNTIL THIS. *TR
REAR DIFFERENTIAL SEAL BAD. *TR
2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT, ABOUT 62000 MILES. DIFFERENTIAL NOISE STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO ALONG WITH A RIGHT AXLE SEAL LEAK. NOISE IS SPEED RELATIONAL, STARTS AT ABOUT 30 MPH AND INCREASES IN FREQUENCY LINEARLY WITH SPEED. NOISE LEVEL ALSO INCREASES WITH INCREASING SPEED. DIFFERENTIAL, ALTHOUGH LEAKING SLIGHTLY, STILL MAKES SAME NOISE WHEN TOPPED OFF WITH SYNTHETIC DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. THROUGH RESEARCH I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS TO BE AN ENDEMIC PROBLEM WITH 2002 AND 2003 EXPLORERS WITH HUNDREDS OF OCCURRENCES NOTED IN VARIOUS PLACES ON THE WEB. MANY MECHANICS REPORT THAT IF THE PINION RETAINING BOLT FAILS, THE DIFFERENTIAL WILL LOCK UP BOTH REAR WHEELS SIMULTANEOUSLY CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. I HAVE NOT READ WHERE THIS HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED BUT THE NOISE IS VERY LOUD AND PEOPLE RIDING IN MY CAR ALWAYS NOTICE IT. I BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD STEP UP THE PLATE ON THIS ONE. AT 51,894 WE WERE SURPRISED TO FIND THAT OUR REAR WHEEL BEARINGS AND HUB ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED THIS STARTED AS A WHINE AND CLICKING NOISE TOTAL CHARGE TO FIX APPROX 750.00 -- ACCORDING TO OTHERS ON THIS SITE THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. AT THIS TIME WE ALSO HAD A VERY LOOSE PARKING BRAKE, BUT WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT COULDN'T BE TIGHTENED UNTIL THE GROOVES WORE OUT? *TR
REAR COIL SPRING ON DRIVERS SIDE IS CRACKED THROUGH. TALKED WITH MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAS SEEN THIS. PROBABLY EVERY THIRD EXPLORER HE HAS SEEN HAS THIS PROBLEM. HE QUESTIONED LOCAL FORD DEALER ON THIS AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2002 FORD EXPLORE XLT V6 TRANSMISSION FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WHILE MY CHILDREN WERE ON BOARD. FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE AND QUITE SAD THAT FORD DID NOTHING. TRUCK WAS ONLY 4 YRS OLD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE NEEDED A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND GET TRANSPORTATION HOME. THEY HAD TO REBUILD IT COMPLETELY! *TR
THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT ON THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER IS BLINKING. THIS WAS AFTER THE 100K MILES CHECKUP. I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS POSSIBLY DAMAGED DUE TO A FAULTY PART THAT IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. A RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 07V336000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE DEALER ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER; THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR TWO WEEKS. THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
HAD TO REPLACE THREE WHEEL BEARINGS AT THE SAME TIME. ONE WENT BAD WHILE ON VACATION. LUCKILY WE PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY FOR A BREAK AND HEARD A LOT OF GRINDING. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY WIGGLED THE TIRE LIKE A LOOSE TOOTH. TECHNICIAN SAID THE WHEEL WAS ABOUT TO COME OFF AND COULD HAVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WITH ONLY 67,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE THIS MUST BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE COST ME AND MY FAMILY OUR LIVES! NOW I AM TOLD THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LIFTGATE HAD CRACKED RIGHT BELOW THE GLASS. THE CRACK IS SPREADING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 52,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 09/05/07. *JB
BROKEN REAR COIL SPRING. *TR
THE LIFT GATE (WINDOW PORTION) OF MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER HAS SUSTAINED A CRACK DIRECTLY DOWN THE MIDDLE UNDER THE GLASS. THE CRACK IS CLEAN CUT AND APPEARS TO EXPAND AND CLOSE WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD AND CONTRACTS AND CLOSES WHEN THE WEATHER IS HOT. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE CRACK APPEARED. I NOTICED IT APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTH AGO AND HAS NOT HAD ANY INCIDENCES THAT WOULD WARRANT THE CRACK. SINCE I'VE NOTICED THE CRACK, I'VE SEEN TWO OTHER EXPLORES THAT HAVE THE SAME CRACK IN THE SAME LOCATION AS MINE, AND STARTING WONDERING IF THIS IS A BODY DEFECT. CAN YOU PLEASE RESEARCH THIS CONCERN FOR ME AND NOTIFY ME OF YOUR FINDINGS? *JB
AT 95,000 MILES THERE WAS A REAR END HOWL AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50-75 MPH. I E-MAILED A COMPLAINT TO FORD MOTOR CORP. AND ASKED IF THEY COULD FIX IT. THEY REPLIED THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD DO. *JB
2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT TRANSMISSION FAILURE. DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY WAS EASY. TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SPECIFIC PR YET NO ONE HAS TAKEN ACTION SUITABLE TO HAVE FORD RECALL THE TRANSMISSION. FORD DEALER SAYS THEY KNOW IT IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN BUT FORD WILL NOT TAKE ACTION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT IS A PITY THAT SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO BE SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE ANYTHING WILL BE DONE. *AK
I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER AND HAVE HAD A ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHECK LIGHTS COMING ON. FIRST IT WAS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHICH READ THAT VEHICLE NEEDED NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER .THEN COUPLE YRS LATER CAME ON AGAIN THIS TIME FOR A SENSOR. NOW I HAVE A AIRBAG LIGHT ON IT SEEMS LIKE ONE SENSOR AFTER ANOTHER. AFTER READING VERY SIMMILER COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE AND OTHERS I THINK THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT FURTHER. 2002 EXPLORER FIRST REAR END WENT AND WAS REPLACE ONLY TO FIND ITS GONE AGAIN AFTER 20,000 MILES, THEN 4.6 V8 ENGINE HAS A KNOCK IN IT, FORD IS AWARE OF IT BUT WONT REPLACE OR FIX IT, NOW BOTH REAR SPRINGS ARE BROKE WHICH FORD ALSO KNOWS AND WONT REPLACE. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS A LOUD HUMMING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING AT ANY SPEED. THE MECHANICS AT THE FORD GARAGE SAY THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDS REPAIRS. I HAD OTHER WORK DONE THAT DAY DUE TO THE LOUD ROAD NOISE. I HAD A WHEEL BEARING REPLACED, BUT STILL HAVE A LOT OF NOISE. THEY SAID THE REPAIR COULD WAIT AWHILE(THEIR SUGGESTION DUE TO THE ALREADY LARGE EXPENSE) I HAD THIS SAME REPAIR DONE IN 2006 AND 2005. *JB
THIS 2002 FORD EXPLORER EDDIE BAUER ABRUPTLY STOPS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED WITHOUT ANY NOTICE OR INDICATION THAT THE IGNITION WILL FAIL TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING. THIS CAR HAS BEEN TO TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS AND ONE REPUTABLE AND ESTABLISHED INDEPENDENT AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP. THIS CAR WAS AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST 30 DAYS AND THIS CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL DEFECT STILL UNDIAGNOSED. NONE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED DEALERSHIPS COULD DETERMINE THE TRUE UNDERLYING PROBLEM. AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP A BRAND NEW STARTER WAS INSTALLED BECAUSE OF A NO START CONDITION SHOWING NO POWER TO THE STARTER AND BLOWN FUSES FOR THE INJECTORS, FUEL PUMP, AND THE COMPUTER. THE SAME DEFECT SHOWED ITSELF ONE DAY LATER AFTER TRAVELING OVER 70 MILES WITH NO SIGN OF FAILURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE OVERHAULED. AS OF JUNE 29, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 54,000.
GEAR SHIFT BROKE WHILE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND VEHICLE WAS IN PARK. KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED. COULD THIS OCCUR WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING? REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE GEAR SHIFT WAS REQUIRED. OLD GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN KEPT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.*AK
OH WHERE TO START!! I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER THAT HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, MOSTLY THE TRANSMISSION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE AROUND 75K MILES AND I'M ON MY 4TH TRANSMISSION, INCLUDING THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE CAR. NOW, ONE A COLD DAY MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW HAS BROKEN. I AM VERY UPSET WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS VEHICLE. ONE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WHILE I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR WITH ME. IT WAS FINE ONE MOMENT AND THEN THE NEXT MOMENT I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKEN. VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY TO DEALER FOR WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, MECH. FOUND BOTH COIL SPRINGS BROKEN WHILE REPLACING LEFT WHEEL BEARING. *TR
GRINDING NOISE SOUNDING LIKE IT IS FROM REAR END, ESPECIALLY ACCELERATING AT HIGH SPEEDS, AND TURNING. TOLD TO REPLACE REAR HUB ASSEMBLY. *JB
WENT TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND GEARSHIFT LEVER SNAPPED OFF. $900.00 FOR NEW STEERING COLUMN. *TR
REAR MIX CANISTER CAUSES A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. THIS EQUIPMENT WAS REPLACED LAST YEAR AT THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER. FOUND A CRACK IN THE CONTAINER ALONG THE SEAM WAS THE CAUSE. COST $800 TO REPLACE. NOW MY COMPLAINT IS THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED THIS YEAR INDICATING A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING. *JB
MY WIFE WAS GOING TO WORK ON 6/12/07 WHEN SHE ARRIVED IN THE PARKING LOT. SHE WENT TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK WHEN THE COLUMN SHIFTER BROKE OFF IN HER HANDS. SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I DISMANTLED THE STEERING COLUMN AND FOUND THAT A METAL PIECE HAD SHEERED OFF THAT ATTACHES THE SHIFT LEVER TO THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN. THIS PIECE OF METAL IS MADE OUT OF POT METAL AND IS OF A POOR QUALITY DESIGN. THE TRUCK IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AS WE DO NOT HAVE $500 TO BUY ANOTHER STEERING COLUMN. THIS POSES A SAFETY RISK IN THE FACT THAT A PARENT COULD GET STRANDED WITH KIDS AND COULD PUT THEM IN DANGER BY NOT ALLOWING THE KEY TO BE REMOVED.

JUST OUT OF THE BLUE O/D LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AND TRANSMISSION MAKING VERY ROUGH SHIFTS INTO 4TH. THIS HAPPENED 3 YEARS AGO AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AS IS AS CAN'T AFFORD A NEW TRANSMISSION. CAR HAD 70,000 MILES ROUGHLY WHEN PROBLEM OCCURRED. *TR
I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY ABS LIGHT COMING ON AND MY BRAKES NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, THEY PULSATE AS IF THEY ARE TRYING TO ENGAGE EVEN WHEN IT IS 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND COMPLETELY DRY. NOTHING UPSETS ME MORE THAN HAVING TO PUT ON MY BRAKES AND HAVING THE FEELING THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WORK. THIS PUTS ME IN DANGER AS WELL AS THOSE WHO OWN THIS MODEL. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE.
