THIS VEHICLE CONSTANTLY OVERHEATS. I HAVE TO ADD COOLANT EVERY FEW DAYS. IT FIRST STARTED DURING A DAY TRIP. PRIOR TO LEAVING I HAD MY OIL CHANGED AND ALL MY FLUIDS WERE FILLED. AFTER LEAVING THE HIGHWAY THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I HAD TO GO TO A GAS STATION AND ADD MORE COOLANT IT WAS ONLY A THREE HOUR TRIP AND IT WAS COMPLETELY DRY. SHORTLY AFTER THE TRANSMISSION BECAME SHIFTING HARD. IT JERKS AND SEEMS TO MISS GEARS. AT THE TIME IT ONLY HAD 40,000 MILES. NOW I HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND MUST KEEP COOLANT IN MY VEHICLE. I HAVE 4 SMALL CHILDREN AND I AM AFRAID THIS VEHICLE IS A FIRE DANGER BECAUSE OF THE RADIATOR. I AM FINANCING THIS VEHICLE AND DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO GET A NEW ONE. THIS VEHICLE TODAY HAS 54,000 MILES AND IF BUILT CORRECTLY I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET 100,000 WITHOUT ANY MAJOR REPAIRS. FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND SHOW THEY STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS. THEIR SAYING SHOULD BE FORD FLIMSY NOT FORD TOUGH! *TR
9/9/10 FORD REPLACED GEAR SHIFT CIRCUIT BOARD. SHORTLY AFTER THERE WAS A 2 SECOND DELAY IN REVERSE AND A JERK. FORD REPLACED THE SOLENOID PACK IN TRANSMISSION AT MY EXPENSE. FORD EXPLORER EB AT 45,304 MILES. *TR
CAR RADIATOR RAN HOT, LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. RADIATOR DRAINED OF ALL FLUIDS WHILE ON HIGHWAY, BLEW HEAD GASKET ON ENGINE, DAMAGED ENGINE HAD TO REPLACE ENGINE AND RADIATOR. THIS IS THE THIRD RADIATOR ON CAR, FIRST AT 33,000 MILES, SECOND AT 67,000 MILES, LAST INCIDENT VEHICLE HAD 87,000 MILES. I HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY, IF NOT COST WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER $ 7000.00 DOLLARS. *TR
FORD EXPLORER 2006 ENGINE OVERHEATING. OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE 118 F', WAS STRANDED WITH INFANT IN THE CAR. 2006 FORD EXPLORER PLACE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE A VERY HARD JERK IS FELT. TODAY DRIVING TO WORK AND FELT AS IF I LOST POWER AND THEN JUST AS SUDDENLY REGAINED POWER AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FOR POWERTRAIN ISSUE. *TR
AT RANDOM TIMES AND NOT OFTEN, WHEN I PUT THE SUV IN PARK, AND TURN OFF THE TRUCK AND REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE TRUCK WILL CONTINUE TO ROLL. IT IS AS THOUGH THE SUV IS IN NEUTRAL, PUT IT IS IN PARK. THE SUV WILL ROLL UNTIL SOMETHING STOPS IT LIKE A CURB OR APPLYING THE BRAKE. TO FIX THE PROBLEM, I HAVE TO PLACE THE SHIFT GEAR TO FROM PARK TO ANOTHER GEAR AND BACK TO PARK. AT THAT TIME, THE TRUCK WILL CATCH. OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO, IT HAS OCCURRED 6 OR 7 TIMES. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION AND GEAR BOX AND FOUND NO ISSUE. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN LAST WEEK. SINCE THE DEALER CANNOT SEE THE PROBLEM, THEY SAY THERE IS NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT IS A MATTER OF TIME OF WHEN IT OCCURS AND I AM NOT AWARE OF IT NOT LOCKING AND IT ROLLS WHEN THERE IS NOBODY TO STOP IT OR A CURB. THERE IS NO PATTERN SINCE IT HAS OCCURRED AT WORK, GROCERY STORE, HOME, ETC. *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER XLT SPORT UTILITY 4X4 4.6L AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS OR HESITATES GOING INTO GEAR. AT STOPS IT HAS A TENDENCY TO SLAM DOWN SHIFT HARD. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS SO MUCH BETWEEN GEARS IT AFFECTS THE MILEAGE SO I GET REALLY BAD GAS MILEAGE LESS THEN THE 13 LOW END OF THE 13/18 MPG SUGGESTED. IT WILL TAKE ABOUT $2,000.00 TO GET ANOTHER TRANSMISSION. I STILL OWE $8,000.00 ON THIS CAR. I AM JUST ABOUT READY TO SAY COME GET IT. *KB
TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP, TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOOT TO HEIGHT FOR 5 SECONDS THEN DROP BACK DOWN DISCOVERED LOW COOLANT. LEAK GOT WORSE. CRACKED RADIATOR DISCOVERED THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM REPLACED RADIATOR, NOW HAVING THERMOSTAT HOUSING REPLACED. 6 WEEKS AFTER REPAIR TOOK TO FORD DUE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FORD SAID IT WAS IN QUICK CONNECT BECAUSE I USED AN AFTER MARKET RADIATOR SAID ONLY WAY THEY COULD FIX IT WAS TO REPLACE MY ENTIRE RADIATOR AGAIN FOR $1300. COULD NOT REPLACED FITTINGS HAD TO GET IT ALL TOGETHER. ASKED THEM WHY I WOULD WANT A FORD RADIATOR SINCE THEY FAIL. THEY SAID YES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER 4.6L V8 4X4 ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. WAS IN A LOW TRAFFIC AREA SO NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO ANY THING BUT HAVE CONCERN FOR FAILURE TO HAPPEN AGAIN ON INTERSTATE OR IN TRAFFIC CAUSING POTENTIALLY DEADLY ACCIDENT. *TR
I DISCOVERED A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR AFTER NOTICING THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEEDLE WAS BOUNCING AROUND AT AN IDLE. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STARTED STEAMING. WE ENDED UP HAVING TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED AT A COST OF $600. (IT WAS ALSO OVER 90 DEGREES THAT DAY AND I WAS STRANDED WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN, THE YOUNGEST WAS 4 MONTHS OLD.) THEN ABOUT A MONTH AGO, IN MAY 2012, I WAS AT A GROCERY STORE AND WHEN I WENT TO ENTER THE VEHICLE I NOTED A LARGE PUDDLE OF ANTIFREEZE ON THE GROUND AND IT WAS DRIPPING FROM THE RADIATOR. WE HAD TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED, AGAIN AT A COST OF $600. THE SAME MECHANIC REPAIRED IT BOTH TIMES AND SAID IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE AS THE FIRST ONE. NOW WE ARE HAVING TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM THE COOLING LINE THAT LEADS FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE RADIATOR. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE CAUSED US SERIOUS HARDSHIPS FINANCIALLY AND COULD HAVE CAUSED PHYSICAL INJURY DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT OUT ON BOTH OCCASIONS AND I HAD SMALL CHILDREN WITH ME MILES FROM HOME. I HAVE ALREADY CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY HAVE DECLINED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I AM REQUESTING, AS ARE MANY OTHERS, THAT A RECALL BE ISSUED. AND I ALSO SUGGEST THAT YOU RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AS IT IS A MAJOR ONE. IT IS STRANGE THAT FORD CHANGED THE RADIATOR IN THE 2007 MODEL YEAR EXPLORER. *TR
ABS LIGHT APPEARED , FOLLOWED BY ANTI SKID LIGHT , NOW WITH WRENCH FLASHING , ON A 2006 FORD EXPLORER , CAUSES IT TO DRIVE TERRIBLE ON GRAVEL , ALL THIS AFTER THE TRANSMISSION AND THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS, MY CAR HAS 80,000 MILES AND DRIVES LIKE ITS 20 YEARS OLD AND ABOUT THAT RELIABLE. LIGHT HAS BEEN ON OVER A WEEK. *TR
2006 FORD EXPLORER - PROBLEM WITH RADIATOR. I BOUGHT MY FORD EXPLORER BRAND NEW AND AFTER APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR, THE RADIATOR STARTED GOING BAD AND AS OF NOW, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 7 RADIATORS. MY PARENTS BOUGHT THE SAME YEAR EXPLORER AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 5 RADIATORS. I CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY, AND OF COURSE, THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE HAD NO REPORTS OF THE DEFECT. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE. A FRIEND WHO WORKS FOR FORD TOLD US THAT THEY HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THOSE RADIATORS BUT THAT THERE IS NO SOLUTION SO THEY ARE UNABLE TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE MOST TERRIFYING CASE WAS 2 YEARS AGO. I WAS DRIVING THROUGH NASHVILLE TENNESSEE AT 7 MONTHS PREGNANT AND MY CAR OVERHEATED ON THE INTERSTATE. I HAD ONLY HAD MY MOST RECENT RADIATOR FOR 3 MONTHS. IT APPARENTLY CRACKED. THE RADIATORS LEAK FLUID SO YOU MUST CHECK FLUIDS REGULARLY TO PREVENT A BREAKDOWN AS THERE HAS BEEN NO WARNING. *TR
SECOND RADIATOR IN 2006 FORD EXPLORER, FIRST ONE WAS AT 32000 MILES. I HAVE SEEN OVER 100 COMPLAINTS BUT YET NO RECALL FROM FORD. THE FIRST WAS COVERED UNDER THE NEW WARRANTY. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE PURCHASED A NEW SERVICE WARRANTY WHEN THAT ONE EXPIRED, NOW AT 92,000 MILES THE RADIATOR COMPLETELY DRAINED CAUSING THE MOTOR HEAD GASKET TO BLOW. IT IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER GETTING A NEW MOTOR AND RADIATOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. SHE PURCHASED FOUR TIRES THIRTEEN MONTHS AGO AND THEY ARE APPROXIMATELY FIFTY PERCENT WORN. THE TIRES ARE GOODYEAR MODEL#FORTERA-HL, SIZE 245/65R17. THE GOODYEAR MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE TIRES AT A PRORATED PRICE AT A FIFTY PERCENT DISCOUNT. SHE PREVIOUSLY PAID $600 AND NOW HAD TO PAY ANOTHER $300 FOR THE TIRES. THE FAILURE WAS 30,086 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 43,000. UPDATED 10/15/10 BF UPDATED 10/18/10*JB
NOVEMBER 2009 AT 50,000 MILES HAD RADIATOR AND WATER PUMP REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY DEALER. MARCH 2010 A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION PCM CARD WAS INSTALLED. HAD TO NOTIFY DEALER THREE TIMES THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT FUNCTIONING WELL, DEALER REBUILT TRANSMISSION. JULY 2010, 67000 MILES THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING SEPARATED AND ALLOWED COOLANT TO LEAK OUT WITH NO TEMPERATURE WARNING RESULTING IN A BLOWN ENGINE. REPLACED ENGINE AND WE ARE NOW GETTING INTERMITTENT THROTTLE FAULT LIGHTS ALONG WITH ENGINE SPEED INPUT CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION CODE P0320. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH IN REVERSE AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, HIS FOOT HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE HIT A MAILBOX AS A RESULT BUT THERE WERE NO DAMAGES OR INJURIES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FIVE TIMES TOTAL WHEN HE WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE TWO PEDALS WERE TOO CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000.
2006 FORD EXPLORER WITH 42,000 MI HAS JUST STARTED TO DIE. DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT QUITS RUNNING IN TRAFFIC ,NO BRAKE LIGHTS , SO TRAFFIC BEHIND DOES NOT EXPECT YOU TO STOP. *TR

THIRD RADIATOR REPLACEMENT IN A YEAR. FIRST ONE WENT OUT AT ABOUT 45,000 MILES. THE OTHERS HAVE ONLY LAST A COUPLE MONTHS. WAS UNDER EXTENDED WARRENTY FOR REPLACEMENTS AND NOW IT IS NOT. AFTER SEEING THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE IT IS ABOUT TIME FORD TAKES THIS ISSUE AND DOES SOMETHING TO FIX IT. AND FIX IT RIGHT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DISPLAYED A READING INFORMING HER THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVER HEATING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WATER WAS LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY EIGHT MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. AT 40000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER I HAD A CRACKED RADIATOR AND HAD MY FIRST RADIATOR REPLACED. I NOW HAVE 67000 MILES AND JUST HAD MY 3RD RADIATOR PUT IN. I AM NOT GOING THROUGH FORD AS THEY WOULDN'T GUARANTEE THEIR WORK ON THE FIRST ONE THEY REPLACED. CLEARLY THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE RADIATORS IN THIS CAR AND IT IS UNFAIR TO ALL OF US WHO PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. *TR
VEHICLE TRANSMISSION STAYS STUCK IN PARK. AFTER HAVING THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY REPLACED TWICE ON WARRANTY, THE PROBLEM HAS COME BACK YET AGAIN. NOW NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE TO WRESTLE WITH THE SHIFTER TO GET IT INTO GEAR, IT NOW LUNGES VIOLENTLY WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPAIR UNDER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM #09B11 SAYING OUR VIN WAS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER BOUGHT FOR THE AMOUNT OF SEATS. AFTER PURCHASED REALIZED ONE SEAT BUCKLE WAS BROKEN AND JUST TODAY ANOTHER BROKE. I BUCKLED MY CHILD'S CAR SEAT, GOT ON THE ROAD AND IT WAS UNBUCKLED. TRIED TO REBUCKLE IT AND THE BUCKLE WOULD NOT HOLD. TOTAL SAFETY ISSUE!! *TR

FAULTY RADIATOR IN 2006 FORD EXPLORER EDDIE BAUER 2WD 4-DOOR. RADIATOR LEAK AT 40K MILES. IT STARTED WITH THE ENGINE REVVING UP AFTER FEW MINUTES OF DRIVE UPON ACCELERATION. TOOK IT TO DEALER WHO SAYS LEAKY RADIATOR MAY BE CAUSING ENGINE TO HEAT UP AND THE ABNORMAL TRANSMISSION FUNCTION. I SEE MANY REPORTS ON INTERNET WITH MULTIPLE RADIATOR LEAK PROBLEMS WITH THIS YEAR MODEL AND IN SOME CASES UPTO 5 RADIATOR REPLACEMENTS UNDER 50K. THIS HAS GOT TO BE A RECALL FROM FORD. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS (MAY 2009 AND NOW JUNE 2010) A TONE RING IN MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER'S ABS/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM BROKE. IT CAUSED THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKES TO GO HAYWIRE. THEY BEGAN TO GRAB AND LOCK MY BRAKES WHEN I WAS MOVING CAUSING ERRATIC DRIVING. WHEN I WENT TO STOP, MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE READ ON FORD FORUMS THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH NUMEROUS FORD EXPLORER OWNERS. *TR
RADIATOR IS LEAKING FROM A SEAM. MILEAGE IS 52,000. SEEMS VERY EARLY TO BE REPLACING A RADIATOR. DEALER WANTS $1100 TO REPLACE. IT APPEARS THAT RADIATOR FAILURE ON 2006 FORD EXPLORER V6 IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
1. THE RADIATOR ON MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER 4.0L V6 BEGAN LEAKING AFTER JUST 3 YEARS AND 49K MILES--DESPITE REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNS, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND FORTUNATELY WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY RETURN IT TO THE DEALER. 2. IN TAKING IT TO MY FORD DEALER THEY SAID IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $1200 (SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36K MILES). 3. FORD'S ISSUED A TSB IN APRIL 2009 WITH A DIAGNOSIS FOR THIS ISSUE AND HAVE A REDESIGNED RADIATOR THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING ANY FAILED RADIATORS THAT YEAR WITH. IN CONTACTING FORD MOTOR THEY TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE SINCE IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER XLT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT NOTICED A LEAK COMING FROM THE RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE RADIATOR .THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER V8 HAS A HARD JOLT WHEN IT DOWNSHIFTS COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME AND FEELS LIKE I HAVE JUST BEEN REAR ENDED. AFTER READING ABOUT MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER 2006 FORD EXPLORERS I REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND MY MECHANIC SAYS TO TRY AN COMPUTER UPDATE FOR THE TRANSMISSION'S WILL GIVE THAT A TRY NEXT BUT I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD BE A FORD RECALL AS THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE FOR THE 2006 MODEL THAT DROP WAY DOWN FOR THE 2007 MODEL. MY MECHANIC SAYS HE HAS SEEN MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL YEAR ALSO. IT APPEARS FORD FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR THE 2007 MODEL YEAR AND THEY SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THE OWNERS THAT HAD ALREADY PURCHASED THE 2006 MODEL. *TR
A TONE RING SENSOR IN MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER ABS/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM BROKE. IT CAUSED THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKES TO GO HAYWIRE. THEY BEGAN TO GRAB AND LOCK MY BRAKES WHEN I WAS MOVING CAUSING ERRATIC DRIVING. WHEN I WENT TO STOP, MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. I BOUGHT A 2006 EXPLORER AND HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES.THE FIRST MAJOR ISSUE WAS WHEN MY CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY STALL OR DIE OUT. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN BECAUSE IT STALLED ON THE HWY WHILE I WAS DOING 65 MPH AND THE CAR DIED. I WAS UNABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT STEER. I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS MY RADIATOR. THEY FIXED THIS BUT I EXPLAINED A MONTH LATER THAT THE CAR WAS STILL STALLING ALONG WITH ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND THE VOLUME ON THE RADIO WOULD GO UP ALSO ON ITS OWN. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A RESOLUTION. I TRIED TO TRADE THE CAR IN AND WAS TOLD NO. I CRIED AND EXPLAINED MY SAFETY CONCERNS FOR MY CHILDREN BUT THEY DO NOT CARE. FINALLY THE CAR WAS NOT ANY BETTER BUT STARTED TO STALL MORE OFTEN AND EVEN BEGAN TO LURCH FORWARD ALMOST CAUSING ME NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS. THE LAST TIME IT STALLED WAS ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS WHICH WAS SO DEVASTATING TO ME AND MY CHILDREN. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND WAS TOLD AFTER AN 1 HOUR AND A HALF THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I REFUSED TO LEAVE AND SUGGESTED THEY KEEP LOOKING BECAUSE THE CAR IS NOT SAFE. THE CAME BACK AFTER ANOTHER HOUR AND TOLD ME THAT THEY CALLED FORD AND THEY SUGGESTED A PART TO REPLACE BUT COULDN'T GUARANTEE IT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SURE THAT WOULD WORK. I SAID NOT TO KEEP LOOKING. AFTER 3 HOURS AT THE DEALER THEY HAD TO BRING ME HOME AND DRIVE MY CAR AROUND WITH A COMPUTER ATTACHED. THEY CALLED AND SAID AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR 57 MILES IT DIED ON THEM AND THEY COULD BARELY GET IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WOULD COST EST 448 AND CHARGED ME 100 DOLLARS FOR THEM LOOKING AT IT. WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED UNDER WARRANTY IF THEY WOULD HAVE LISTENED TO MY CONCERNS? FORD IS NOW PUTTING MY CHILDREN AT RISK OF POSSIBLY GETTING INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT. I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT NOW STALLS EVERY TWO MINUTES EVER SINCE THE DEALER. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE MULTIPLE TIMES AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

HE TOLD ME TO CALL FORD AND SEE IF THEY HAD A SILENT RECALL ON THESE AS THERE IS A TSB OUT FOR THIS, THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. OVER THE LAST 18 MONTHS WITH MY EXPLORER I HAVE HAD IT DIE ON ME 4 TIMES AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. 4 TIMES THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS SOME SORT OF COMPONENT IN THE THROTTLE BODY THAT IS CAUSING IT TO DIE. IT HAS DIED TWICE ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DOING 65 MPH. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ON THURSDAY APRIL 15TH. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND YET AGAIN THEY SAID IT WAS A SENSOR IN THERE AND FOR THE 4TH TIME THE REPLACED A COMPONENT OF THIS INSTEAD OF THE WHOLE THING. THEY CAN NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL FIX IT WHICH IS VERY DISCONCERTING TO ME. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY 2010. WHEN PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE LUNGES BACKWARD VERY VIOLENTLY. THE PROBLEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP 4/10/2010 AND THERE ARE PIECES OF THE CLUTCHES SITTING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION PAN. THE TRANSMISSION NOW REQUIRES A COMPLETE REBUILD. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO CALLED A LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,071. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPPROXIMATELY 44,200.
A FRIEND WITH 2006 FORD EXPLORER HAD THEIR ENGINE SEIZE ($5000) ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A FAMILY TRIP OVER THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY DUE TO A DEFECTIVE RADIATOR AND NO ENGINE TEMPERATURE SENSOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000. I BEGAN CHECKING MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER BECAUSE WE WERE GOING TO TAKE A SPRING BREAK FAMILY TRIP AND NOTICED LOW ANITFREEZE ON MY TRUCK OVERFLOW TANK AND LEAKAGE ON THE LOWER DRIVER SIDE OF THE RADIATOR. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL CAR MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP PARTS DEPARTMENT AND THEY WANTED $800 FOR A NEW RADIATOR. MY MECHANIC FIXED THE TRUCK BUT HIS PARTS CONTACT SAID THE RADIATOR IS ON A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF THE ALL THE DEFECTIVE RADIATORS IN 2006-2007 FORD EXPLORER TYPE VEHICLES. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY REPAIR ABOUT 4 OR 5 A YEAR AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. AFTER THE REPAIR I FOUND OUT THERE IS A TSB RECOMMENDATION FROM THE MANUFACTURE IN ORDER TO GET A LIFETIME WARRANTY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP CAN ONLY DO THIS AND FOR $95 THE TSB WILL CORRECT THE TEMPERATURE COMPUTER SETTINGS SO THE COOLING FAN WILL TURN ON SOONER. THE HIGHER TEMPERATURES MAY BE THE REASON THIS RADIATOR IS FAILING BECAUSE THEY SHOULD LAST 10 PLUS YEARS OF THE LIFE OF A VEHICLE BEFORE NEEDING REPLACEMENT. THE GASKET SEAL BETWEEN PLASTIC AND ALUMINUM ON THE UPPER DRIVER SIDE IS THE CAUSING THE PROBLEM, SO IT'S OBVIOUS THERE IS A COMBINATION OF IMPROPER TEMPERATURE SETTINGS AND DEFECTIVE PART. THIS PART SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A DEFECTIVE ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE DIRECT OR INDIRECT DEATHS AND/OR INJURIES. IT COST ME $530 INSTALLED AT A LOCAL RADIATOR REPAIR SHOP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000. *TR
ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHES 35,000 TO 40,000 MILES, RADIATOR FAILURE IS COMMON. RADIATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY 2006 FORD EXPLORER V6 AT 39,000 MILES. APPARENTLY THIS PROBLEMS IS KNOWN TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY, AS THEY'VE CREATED A TSB FOR IT STATING TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR WITH A NEW DESIGN AND TO UPDATE THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE ON THE VEHICLE. RADIATORS SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS SOON ON NEW CARS. *TR

ONLY WHEN I WENT IN AND LET THEM KNOW IT WAS CPO & OIL WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS DONE. THE SERVICE PERSON LEFT THE FRONT DESK FOR ABOUT 15 MIN AND CAME BACK ONLY TO FIND THE RECORDS IN THEIR SYSTEM. AT THAT TIME I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE LUNGING & JERKING AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS NOT USED TO THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE THAT KICKS IN AUTOMATICALLY. ONCE SPRING CAME HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT AT THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM I WAS TOLD UNLESS IT DOES THIS ALL THE TIME IT WOULD BE A WASTE OF MY MONEY TO BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE. AS OF TODAY'S DATE IT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING AND I HAVE BECOME AWARE OF SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, WHY IS FORD NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. JUST RECENTLY NOTICED MY 06 FORD EXPLORER HAVING UNEXPECTED ENGINE SURGES. WENT TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION AND IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS FIGHTING ME TO STOP. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS HOWEVER THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO MAINTAIN THAT SPEED LIKE I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. I PURPOSELY DID NOT GIVE THE VEHICLE ANY GAS AND SAW THAT IT JUST KEPT ACCELERATING. FINALLY AFTER BREAKING OUT I BEGAN TO BRAKE AND AGAIN FELT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING. SINCE NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME I WANTED TO SEE WHAT THE VEHICLE DID IF I GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS IN WHICH IT MADE A POPPING SOUND AND DID NOT RESPOND WHEN I GAVE IT MORE GAS BUT THE ENGINE STILL WAS RUNNING. I PULLED OVER AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I TRIED TO REV THE ENGINE BUT IT DID NOT RESPOND. A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON DURING THIS PROCESS. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF THEN ON AGAIN IN WHICH IT SEEMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. AS I DROVE HOME IT DID FINE EXCEPT WHEN STOPPED AT THE SAME INTERSECTION IT DIED. I STARTED IT AGAIN AND HAD NO PROBLEMS AND I DID MAKE IT HOME. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND MULTIPLE SIMILAR PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. I HAVE AN 8 YEAR OLD SON AND DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. AT THIS TIME WE CANNOT AFFORD TO GET THIS FIXED. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS AT THIS POINT OTHER THAN MAKING A COMPLAINT? 2006 FORD EXPLORER - RADIATOR FAILURE - VEHICLE HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THE RADIATOR HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE REGARDING THE REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IN APRIL 2009 THEY ISSUED A TSB REGARDING RADIATOR LEAKS OCCURRING IN CERTAIN 2006 EXPLORERS MADE BEFORE 8/8/2006. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT IT IS NOT A "LEAK" IN THE RADIATOR BUT A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE PART. THEY ARE CURRENTLY ON THEIR FOURTH DESIGN OF RADIATORS FOR THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE. MY QUESTION IS THIS, WITH ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS REGISTERED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, WHY HASN'T NHTSA LAUNCHED AN INVESITGATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND WHY HASN'T THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY STEPPED UP AND ACKNOWLEGED THERE IS A PROBLEM AND DONE SOMETHING TO ASSIST THE OWNERS OF ALL VEHICLES THAT ARE SUBJECT TO THE PROBLEM. IT MAKES SENSE TO ME IF FMC IDENTIFIED THERE COULD BE ISSUES EFFECTING VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BEFORE A CERTAIN POINT IN TIME, THEN IT CLEARLY HAS RECOGNIZED THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THEY SHOULD STAND BY ITS PRODUCT AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
