FULLY MARKED POLICE PATROL VEHICLE LOST HYDRAULIC BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. INSPECTED AND FOUND RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED INSIDE OF PROTECTIVE SLEEVE CAUSING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT AND HYDRAULIC BRAKES TO STOP WORKING. THIS IS THE 3RD ONE WE HAVE HAD IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. 1ST ON 5/15/2018, SECOND ON 1/15/2020, AND THIRD ON 2/10/2020. SO FAR THE VEHICLES INVOLVED ARE 2013 POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITIES. ALL HAVE BUILD DATES BETWEEN 4/19/2012 AND 6/19/2012.
MEMORANDUM FOR FORD CORPORATION, CLAIM DIVISION FROM: [XXX], OWNER OF 2013 FORD EXPLORER XLT, VIN#[XXX]. RE: PUNITIVE DAMAGES DUE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. RECALL# 19S17 MA'AM, SIR, I OWN A 2013 FORD EXPLORER, VIN#[XXX]. IN DECEMBER 2015, I MOVED TO GERMANY IN UNDER US ARMY ORDERS AND EXPORTED MY SUV TO OUR MILITARY INSTALLATION IN VILSECK, GERMANY. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD ISSUES WITH THE CAR, EXPERIENCING STEERING PROBLEMS AND TWICE LOST CONTROL, WHICH RESULTED IN TWO ACCIDENTS IN MARCH, 2016 AND NOVEMBER, 2017. OVER MY DEPLOYMENT TO GERMANY, I SOUGHT HELP FROM LOCAL FORD SITES IN BAVARIA, SPENT CONSIDERABLE AMOUNTS TO FIX THE ISSUE THINKING THE BRAKES ARE THE ISSUES AND IN TIMES CHANGING TIRES, BUT IN VAIN. WHEN, I ATTEMPTED TO IMPORT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE HOMELAND UPON MY RECENT PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS) BACK TO HURLBURT FIELD, FL, I FOUND OUT THAT THE SUV WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL FOR A DEFECT IN THE REAR TOE LINK, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF CRASH (FORD RECALL# 19S17 AND NTHSA RECALL# 19V435). I OBTAINED A WAIVER TO IMPORT THE CAR AND CALLED WORLD FORD PENSACOLA AS SOON AS MY CAR LANDED IN THE US ON JANUARY 27, 2020 TO SCHEDULE A FIX. THEY FIXED THE ISSUE ON JANUARY 29, 2020. IT IS WORTH MENTIONING THAT FORD HAS MY UPDATED ARMY POST OFFICE (APO) ADDRESS BUT HAD NEVER NOTIFIED ME OF THIS IMPORTANT RECALL (I HAVE MAIL FROM FORD TO MY APO ADDRESS BUT NOT FOR THE RECALL). FOR THE FOREGOING REASONS, I DECIDED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH FORD CORPORATION FOR ALL OF THE EXPENSES INCURRED DUE TO THE MISHAP, INCLUDING MY ACCIDENT IN 2016 AND 2017. I CONTACTED YOUR HQ ,BUT IN VAIN. HE IGNORED MY PHONE CALLS AND MY EMAILS. THEREFORE, I AM REACHING OUT TO YOU IN WRITING. I AM ASKING, AT THIS POINT, ONLY FOR REPAIR EXPENSES AND NOT ASKING FOR MEDICAL BILLS STEMMING FROM THE ACCIDENTS ($ 1732.90 AND 5000.04 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
THE POWER STEERING RACK AND EPS SHUTS DOWN AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AND HAD THE EPS RESET TWICE AND IT STILL POPS UP THE SENSOR FOR THE EPS AND SHUTS MY POWER STEERING DOWN. I'VE ALMOST CRASHED MY VEHICLE TWICE AND HAD IT TOWED 3 TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS.

THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED HIM THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING); THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO NHTSA TO FILE A VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,405.
STEERING BECOME HARD CANT MOVE THE WHEEL OR MAKE ANY TURN... AND THE LIGHT OF SERVICE POWER STEERING AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC CAME ON. I ALMOST HAVE A ACCIDENT DO TO THIS PROBLEM.
GETTING OFF RAMP TURNING TO MY RIGHT THE CAR WAS HARD TO TRUE STEER LOST CONTROL
THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING MY VEHICLE IS A 2013 BUT IT ONLY HAS 68800 MILES
VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING CAN LOSE SIGNAL TO THE ELECTRIC GEAR BOX FOR THE POWER STEERING. CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. CAR DISPLAY READS "POWER STEERING FAULT".
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND SOMEHOW THE CAR STOP STEERING. VERY HARD TO TURN IN CURVES AND WHILE DRIVING SLOW. MESSAGE CAME UP ON DASH BOARD ABOUT STEERING DEFAULT.

LOCATED AT 4011 E CENTER ST, CONNEAUT, OH 44030, WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED NOR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
I've had to replace the windshield trim panel piece three times because they keep flying off.
I HAVE RECEIVED CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING FROM DRIVING MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. I ALSO HAVE HAD THE FRONT END LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED HAD TO PAY MOST OF THE COSTS (EXTENDED WARRANTY PAID FOR SOME) FOR THE FRONT END POPPING SOUNDS WHILE TURNING. THE SOUND IS STILL THERE AND ON BOTH SIDES NOW. SO MONEY WASTED TOWARDS FORD!! THE VEHICLE ISNT DRIVABLE AT THIS POINT AND THAT LEAVES ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE.
2013 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED 4WD 3.5L BECAME UNDRIVEABLE IN A MATTER OF 4 DAYS. IT STARTED AS A SQUEAL AS I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP AND QUICKLY ESCALATED TO LURCHING, PULSATING AND BUMPING AT ALL SPEEDS. MECHANIC INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A CALIPER THAT WAS LOCKED UP BUT WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK 2 DAYS LATER AFTER THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND WORSENED HE REALIZED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS FAULTY. HE NOTED THAT FORD IS NOTORIOUS FOR FAULTY TRANSFER CASES AND HORRIBLE WARRANTIES THAT END BEFORE THE PARTS GO. I'M TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE COULD LOCK UP AT ANY MOMENT AND CAUSE ME TO NOT BE ABLE TO REACT PUTTING MY FAMILIES SAFETY AND THOSE AROUND ME IN DANGER. HELP PLEASE! I'M TOLD THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND NOT ISOLATED TO MY VEHICLE. MULTIPLE PHONE CALLS TO FORD HAVE ME ON HOLD FOR 15+ MINUTES WITH NO SOUND AND THEN PHONE CALL ENDS WITHOUT THE CHANCE TO TALK TO A REPRESENTATIVE. MY VEHICLE HAD ROUGHLY 94,000 MILES AT THE TIME. REPAIR COST WAS ESTIMATED BETWEEN $3,000 - $5,000.
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE TRUCK LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING. THIS EFFECTS THE ENGINE, POWER STEERING BASICALLY ANYTHING THAT USES POWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 65MPH AND 35-40MPH. ONE TIME IT HAPPENED ON A STREET, THE OTHER TIME WAS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.
MY CAR IS LEAKING FUEL UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE - SO MUCH FUEL THAT IT HAS SOAKED THE COVER ON THE ENGINE BLOCK AND THE COVER ACROSS THE TOP OF THE INTERIOR OF THE HOOD. IT IS ACTUALLY DRIPPING DOWN WHEN I LIFT THE HOOD. IT IS SO STRONG ON THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE THAT I CAN TASTE IT IN MY MOUTH/LUNGS WHEN I SAT IN THE VEHICLE.
COMPLAINED OF FAULTY POWER STEERING ERROR MESSAGE COMING ON WHEN STARTING VEHICLE FOR 1.5 YEARS TO FORD DEALERSHIP WITH NO EXACT RESPONSE REGARDING THE ISSUE. THEY SAID THEY RESET THE SYSTEM AND IT SHOULD WORK FINE AFTERWARDS. THE NEXT DAY I STILL HAD THE ISSUE. I THEN COMPLAINED AGAIN ABOUT IT BUT IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR NUMEROUS ISSUES AND THAT WAS OVERLOOKED/IGNORED. MY POWER STEERING HAS NOW GONE OUT COMPLETELY AND THE RECALLS FOR THE POWER STEERING ENDED FOR EXPLORERS MANUFACTURED AFTER FEB. 2012 AND MINE WAS MANUFACTURED IN DEC. 2012. I ASKED IF THE DEALERSHIP WAS REQUIRED TO REPORT ISSUES WHEN CUSTOMERS BRING THEIR VEHICLE IN TO THE SHOP AND THEY SAID NO. THEY ARE ONLY REQIURED TO REPORT THEM WHEN THEY REPAIR IT OR DO WORK TO IT, NOT JUST ASSESS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE. LESSON LEARNED, ALWAYS REPORT YOUR ISSUES HERE. MY POWER STEERING COULD HAVE GONE OUT WHILE DRIVING BUT THANK GOD IT DIDN'T. IT WENT OUT AS I WAS PAYING A BILL AND HAD TURNED MY CAR OFF FOR LESS THAN 2 MINUTES. THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. IT IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING THAT THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT IS A KNOWN FORD ISSUE AND THAT MY CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. MUCH LESS, I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT BY LETTING ME KNOW THE POWER STEERING FAULT IS COMMON AND TO GET IT REPAIRED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER TO PREVENT A WRECK.
ON THE 14TH OF JANUARY 2020, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, MY TRUCK BEGAN TO SWAY AS IF MY ALIGNMENT WAS OFF. A SHORT WHILE LATER, THE SERVICE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND AS I STRUGGLED TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO A STOP IN A NEARBY PARKING LOT, THE WARNING CHANGED TO SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW! THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND I ALMOST SIDE SWIPED A COUPLE OF CARS. AFTER I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND STEERING BECAME IMPOSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEAR BY FORD DEALERSHIP.
VEHICLE LOST HYDRAULIC BRAKES. FOUND RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE RUPTURED INSIDE OF PROTECTIVE SLEEVE CAUSING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT AND HYDRAULIC BRAKES TO STOP WORKING.
ON JANUARY 12, 2020, WHILE DRIVING HOME TO FLORIDA FROM GEORGIA, INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THAT SERIOUSLY INJURED 26 YEAR OLD DRIVER AND HER 2 CHILDREN, AGES 8 AND 4. ALTHOUGH THE CHILDREN WERE ABLE TO GO HOME WITH WEEKS OF THE ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER WAS LEFT WITH SEVERE INJURIES AND IMPAIRMENTS, TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, AND IN A COMA FOR NEARLY 2 MONTHS. THE 26 YEAR OLD DRIVER RECENTLY CAME HOME IN MARCH AFTER SPENDING TIME AT BROOKS REHABILITATION, BUT WE RECENTLY RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT ABOUT RECALL 19S17. WE ARE WONDERING IF THIS RECALL COULD HAVE POSSIBLY PLAYED A PART IN THIS ACCIDENT, AS SHE WAS BRAKING WHEN THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND VEERED OFF THE ROAD, AND SHE WENT HEAD ON INTO A SEMI-TRUCK GOING THE OTHER DIRECTION ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V031000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 75 MPH, the contact observed that the driver's side A-pillar trim was blown off the vehicle due to the force of the slipstream of the vehicle. The contact called a local dealer and was advised that parts were not available. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
POWER STEERING GEAR FAILED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION DUE TO POOR COATING
THIS TRUCK IS EXPERIMENTING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM SHUTDOWN AFTER SOMETIME OF DRIVING AND I NOTICE THE RACK PINION IS BEEN REPLACE FOR NEW ONE I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO GET THE COMPUTER UPDATED SOFTWARE AND REPROGRAM THE STEERING SYSTEM BUT A WEEK LATER VEHICLE DID SAME PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THAT THERE IS NOT RECALLS ON IT EVEN THAT THE VEHICLE IS PRESENTING THE PROBLEM OF THE RECALL AND IT FALL IN THE YEAR OF THE RECALL ITSELF
FOUR 2013 FORD EXPLORER RAN HOT WHILE I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE. WE THOUGHT IT WAS LOW ON ANTIFREEZE SO WE ADDED SOME. OUT OF PRECAUTION, WE BEGAN MONITORING THE ANTIFREEZE LEVEL AND NOTICE THAT THE LEVEL WOULD DROP, OVER A COUPLE OF WEEKS, ENOUGH WHICH REQUIRED US TO HAVE TO ADD MORE ANTIFREEZE. MY WIFE CALLED FORD'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO DETERMINE/CONFIRM THE PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE WATER PUMP WAS MAY BE DEFECTIVE. ON OUR WAY TO THE APPOINTMENT, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND HAD TO BE TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY. UPON INSPECTION, WE WERE TOLD THAT ANTIFREEZE HAD LEAKED INTO THE ENGINE, AND FURTHER, THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED BECAUSE OF A BROKEN TIMING CHAIN.
STEERING ASSIST FAULTED WHILE DRIVING NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 313,286.
ENGINE FAIL MAKE NOISE
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR LOCK/LATCH MECHANISMS FAILED SHOWING CAR DOOR IS AJAR WHEN DOOR IS ACTUALLY SHUT. DRIVER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED AROUND 30,000 MILES AND PASSENGER LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED AROUND 135000 MILES. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS OF CAR CANNOT BE TURNED OFF UNTIL SPEED REACHES APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. THIS LEADS TO UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS AND LIMITS DRIVER VISIBILITY OUTSIDE OF CAR DUE TO GLARE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE NEEDED BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V812000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000.
LIGHTS AND PASSENGER DOOR AJAR STAY ON. LIGHTS DON'T TURN OFF WHEN BACKING UP OR UNTIL DRIVING FORWARD AT A CERTAIN SPEED. LOCKS UNLOCK BY THEMSELVES. LIGHTS WILL RANDOMLY TURN ON WHEN NO ONE IS BY THE CAR. HAVE 3 LITTLE KIDS NEED A CAR THAT SHOULD BE RELIABLE TO LOCK THE DOOR TO S AND STAY LOCKED OR TO SAFELY BACK UP WITH VISIBILITY BUT CAN'T BC THE LIGHTS STAY ON
THE FUEL TANK HAS A GAP BETWEEN THE PLACE YOU FILL UP GAS FROM GAS LEAKING STILL.THE WHEELS MAKE A POPPING SOUND WHEN YOU MAKE SHARP TURNS
WHILE DRIVING 70MPH WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR THE POWER ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON. I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE POWER STEERING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A SAFE SPOT USING MUCH STRENGTH TO DO SO. 2013 FORD EXPLORER 74,700 MILES.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that there was water leaking inside the vehicle while her mother was driving and while the vehicle was parked in the rain. The contact stated that water was leaking in the driver's side of the vehicle and in the trunk. The contact stated that water was settling in the front driver's side floorboard and in the trunk. The contact stated that her mother had removed approximately a gallon of water out of the vehicle on one occasion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The dealer informed the contact that the failure could be due to a clogged drain plug. Several unknown repairs were performed on the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME STEERING PROBLEMS AS THE EXPLORERS IN THE RECALL, YET MY 2013 EXPLORER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE RECALL IS- NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000. I BELIEVE THE POPULATION OF THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED.
ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO THE STEERING WAS GETTING TOUGH WITH LITTLE NOISE LIKE CLUNKING, TOOK THE EXPLORER TO A FORD DEALER WAS TOLD MY FRONT STRUTS NEEDED CHANGED. HAD THAT DONE, DID NOT FIX MY STEERING PROBLEM. SAID MY VIN WAS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL FORD HAD ON THE STEERING RACK. NOW JUST YESTERDAY I START MY CAR AND MY STEERING WHEEL IS STUCK NO MOVEMENT. TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AND GOT MOVEMENT BUT NO POWER STEERING IT'S A MANUAL. WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON 1. "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" 2. "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC". ALSO NOTICED MY TURN SIGNAL WILL NOT STAY ENGAGED MUST HOLD IN PLACE TO SIGNAL.
STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING MAKING A RIGHT TURN. POWER ASSIST LIGHT CAME UP WHEN POWER STEERING GAVE OUT.
RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD " POWER ASSIST FAULT", THE STEERING WAS STIFF AND COULD NOT TURN. TURN OFF THE CAR FOR 10 MINUTES AND THE STEERING WAS FUNCTIONING OK. LATER IN THE AFTERNOON, I WAS ABOUT TO HIT THE GAS PUMP AS MY STEERING WENT STIFF AGAIN. NOW AM SCARED THAT THIS MAY CAUSE ACCIDENT

WHEN STARTING VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DOES NOT WORK. I HAVE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE 1-3 TIMES TO GET THE STEERING TO WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED APROX. 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR AS VIN DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL THAT AFFECTS 2013 EXPLORERS AND THE STEERING GEAR. UPON INSPECTION THE TECH FOUND THE POWER STEERING RACK TO BE FAULTY. THE STEERING GEAR WAS REPLACED ON 1/8/2020.
WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL FASHION IN MEDIUM TRAFFIC ENGINE ALL OF A SUDDEN DIED RESTARTED AFTER 5 MINUTES OF ATTEMPTS ONLY TO DIE AGAIN ABOUT 3 MINUTES LATER IN MIDDLE OF A TURNING LANE. AFTER BEING PUSHED TO A PARKING LOT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HEAD GASKET WAS BLOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SIGNS. HAD TO BE TOWED OVER 100 MILES TO MY HOME ON A ROLL BACK TRUCK PAID BY CAR INSURANCE

TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING SEEMS TO CORRECT THE ISSUE FOR NOW. RESEARCED AND SAW RECALL 14V286000 FOR SAME REPORTED ISSUES, BUT SEEMS THAT MY VIN DOES NOT FALL WITHIN THE DESIGNATED VEHICLES.
IT OCCURS 1 TO 4 TIMES WHILE I'M DRIVING. ALL OF A SUDDENLY THE THE GAS PEDAL DOESN'T WORK AND THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IS OFF. I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK AGAIN. ALSO, THERE'S A WEIRD SMELL COMING COMING OUT WHEN ALL WINDOWS ARE CLOSED AND THE AC IS ON.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the contact started to smell an abnormal gasoline and exhaust odor inside the vehicle. The contact started to feel a burning sensation in her eyes and chest. Additionally, the contact developed a headache and rolled down the windows, turned off the air conditioner to eliminate the odor inside the vehicle. The contact decided to drive back to the residence because of the fumes. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The local dealer was contacted to have the vehicle diagnosed a second time however, the contact was informed that there was an out of pocket cost for the inspection. The contact declined the inspection due to the cost. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,500.
OCCASIONALLY THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I COULD KILL THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT AND IT WOULD RETURN TO WORKING. HOWEVER NOW THE WARNING LIGHT IS ON AND WON'T GO OFF. THE POWER STEERING WILL NOT WORK AT ALL.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP TWICE IN 2 DAYS WHEN STARTED AND DISPLAYED A WARNING "POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT". THE CAR HAD TO BE RESTARTED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT FORD REFUSES TO FIX ON OUR VIN.
FAILURE OF ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I HAD TURNED MY CAR ON AND THE FAULT HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY. PREVIOUSLY WHEN THIS WOULD OCCUR I WOULD RESTART MY CAR AND THE ERROR WOULD RESOLVE. THIS TIME THIS DID NOT CLEAR THE ERROR.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JACK MADDEN FORD (LOCATED AT 825 BOSTON-PROVIDENCE TURNPIKE, NORWOOD, MA 02062, (781) 207-9009) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND RACK AND PINION UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

LOOKING THROUGH THE REST OF NHSTA THERE ARE EXTENSIONS OF THE ELECTRIC ASSIST REPROGRAMMING TO CORRECT THE ADVANCETRAC COMPUTER PROBLEM TIL 2023 HOWEVER ONLY IF THE EXPLORER WAS UNDER THE 28 FEBRUARY 2012 ORIGINAL RECALL. AGAIN MY CAR CAME OFF THE LINE, 14 MARCH 2012. I HAVE GOTTEN NOWHERE WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE 800 NUMBER EXCEPT WERE SORRY YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS AS THE CARS MANUFACTURED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO YOURS IN THE SAME PLANT, BUT WE HAVE TO DRAW THE LINE SOMEWHERE AND THE PROBLEM IS PROBABLY RELATED TO SOMETHING ELSE. THE DEALER HAS SOME RESOURCES TO WORK WITH YOU BUT YOU NEED TO SPEAK TO THEM. MEAN TIME I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE LOCAL CUSTOMER SERVICE REP ED, THIS CASE WAS OPENED LAST WEEK AND THE VEHICLE IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY HOPING TO HEAR POSITIVE NEWS ABOUT THE COMPUTER ISSUE AFTER SPENDING TMY OWN $1200 TO REPLACE A PART THAT SHOULD HAVE CLEARLY BEEN COVERED IN THIS RECALL 14S06 I CANNOT DRIVE IT SINCE I GOT IT INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH THOSE TWO MESSAGES (BOTH ADVANCETRAC AND SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON) IN THE DIC,,, I GOT HOME AND SHUT OFF RESTARTED, NO STEERING , I REPARKED IT IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH "ZERO ASSIST" I ASSUME IT WILL NEED TO BE TOWED TO THE NEXT LOCATION.
