THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000(STEERING) WITH THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

POWER STEERING FAULT TWICE WHEN MAKING SHARP TURN
SOMETIMES THE STEERING LOCKS UP EVEN WHEN MOVING HAVE TO SHUT DOWN ENGINE WAIT A MINUTE AND RESTART TO GET SOME POWER STEERING RE-ACTIVATED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTIONED, WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A CRASH. PARADISE FORD (1360 W KING ST, COCOA, FL 32922, (888) 379-8533) STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND SUGGESTED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS FAULTY. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PROVIDED A SECOND OPINION AND REACHED THE SAME DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
Front windshield trim has flown off on the highway on three separate occasions.
MY STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WHILE IN MOTION WHILE TURNING OFF THE HIGHWAY RESULTING IN A NEAR COLLISION. I RECEIVED NO INTERIOR WARNING LIGHTS OR SIGNALS ALERTING ME TO AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CLIMATE CONTROL TEMPERATURE REMAINED AT THE HIGH HEAT SETTING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO APPLE FORD OF LYNCHBURG (2113 LAKESIDE DR, LYNCHBURG, VA 24501, (434) 385-5012) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT CONTROLS INTERFACE MODULES FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS223-28019. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 149,121. CONSUMER STATED IN MY ATTEMPTS TO CUT OFF THE HEAT (IT WAS A 95* DAY) FROM BLOWING, I ALMOST HIT A CEMENT GIRDER. THIS WAS ONLY 1 OF MANY TIMES THAT THIS HAPPENED. FREQUENT FUME SMELLS COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. I DRIVE WITH MY BABIES AGES 3 AND 4. I'M AFRAID THIS WILL HAVE AN EFFECT ON THEIR HEALTH AS WELL AS MINE. SOMETIMES WE GET HEADACHES AND I FEEL IT'S FROM BEING IN THIS VEHICLE. ELECTRIC PROBLEMS WITH THE SUNROOF. NOT WORKING AND UNABLE TO CLOSE.

IN ADDITION, THE "POWER STEERING SERVICE NOW" AND ADVANCETRAC WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING RACK FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURES AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL 14V2846000 BUT, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *JS *JS
WHILE TRAVELING IN A FORWARD DIRECTION ON A CITY STREET, AN ALERT FOR POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION APPEARED. A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. A QUICK RESEARCH OF THE FORD EXPLORER POWER STEERING RESULTED WITH A LARGE FORUM OF PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO STATED I WAS THE SECOND ONE IN A WEEK. A RECALL WAS DONE FOR THIS SPECIFIC ITEM WAS DONE, BUT FOR ALL WHEEL/4 WHEEL DRIVE ONLY. I FEEL THIS PARTICULAR PRODUCT IS UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
I EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING. IT BEGAN AS A LITTLE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL NEAR THE END OF AN 8 HOUR DRIVE. THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW LIGHT CAME ON AT THAT POINT. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING AT ALL.
THE STEERING BECAME SO BAD IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT. I DID NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE IT. LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP SAID IT IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE IN THE STEERING SO I DROVE IT UNSAFELY TO FORD DEALER WHO TOLD US IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING GEAR. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN A 2013 VEHICLE WITH A LITTLE OVER 100K MILES

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED TO D-PATRICK BOONVILLE FORD (LOCATED AT 3100 IN-62, BOONVILLE, IN 47601, (812) 897-5838) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
VEHICLE HAS 74,200 MILES ON IT. POWER STEERING IS FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THAT UNDER MINOR STEERING MOVEMENTS (LANE CHANGES OR MINOR CURVATURE IN ROAD) I UNDERSTEER DUE TO INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 SECOND. WHEN POWER STEERING COMES BACK OVERSTEER AND END UP SWERVING VIGOROUSLY DUE TO ASSIST RETURNING. IT HAS CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION MANY TIMES IN THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS CAN EASILY CREATE COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE AT SPEED.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET.
CRANKED UP EXPLORER AND RECEIVED POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. CALLED DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON RECALL OR SEE WHAT THIS WAS ABOUT. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND BY TURNING THE EXPLORER OFF AND ON AGAIN USUALLY FIXES THE PROBLEM THIS DID AT THAT TIME. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN A COUPLE MONTHS LATER AND DID WHAT THEY SAID BECAUSE THEY TOLD US IT WAS NOT COMMUNICATING CORRECTLY. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN FOR A WHILE UNTIL TODAY WHEN TRYING TO DO THAT FIVE TIMES IT DID NOT COMMUNICATE BUT THIS TIME IT GAVE THE SAME POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND A SERVICE ADVANCETRAC MESSAGE. LUCKY THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND MY WIFE AND KIDS WERE NOT IN THE CAR. HAD TO HAUL THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARKING LOT TO MY HOUSE FOR THE TIME BEING UNTIL I CAN GET AN ANSWER ON WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. I DID SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS SAME ISSUE A WHILE BACK AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH. LUCKY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY EVERY TIME THESE ISSUES HAVE POPPED UP THE CAR HAS BEEN STATIONARY.
WHEN I SHIFT IT TO PARK. IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT AND WHEN YOU TURN OF THE CAR. A SIGN COMES UP ON THE DASH SCREEN SAYING 'SHIFT INTO PARK'. AND IT DRAINS YOUR BATTERY BECAUSE THE SYSTEM IS WAITING FOR YOU TO SHIFT IT. ALSO YOU CAN'T USE THE FACTORY REMOTE START.
WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL IN MY VEHICLE IT MAKES A LOUD CLUNK NOISE AND ALSO WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES. I LOOKED UP ALL FORD EXPLORER RECALLS AND NOTICED ONE IN 2014 THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. HOW CAN I KNOW IF MY VEHICLE WAS ON THE RECALL LIST BEING SO LONG AGO AND CAN THIS BE COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL? I SEE ALOT OF COMPLAINTS INVOLVING THIS SAME ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2017.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING LOST POWER AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE DROVE THE VEHICLE, USING MANUAL STEERING, TO ROWE FORD WESTBROOK (800-872-7693, LOCATED AT 91 MAIN ST, WESTBROOK, ME 04092). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN, BUT UNCOMMON, ISSUE. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR BOX. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
POWER STEERING FAILURE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN LEFT AND RIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALLAN VIGIL FORD OF FAYETTEVILLE (275 GLYNN ST N, FAYETTEVILLE, GA 30214, (770) 461-1151) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
WHEN IDLING CABIN FILLS UP WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE SMOKE FROM MUFFLERS. FELL ASLEEP IN THE CAR WHILE IDLING, WOKE UP DIZZY AND THRU UP SHORTLY AFTER, STRONG HEADACHE AFTER. RUST AROUND THE LOCK ON THE TRUNK LID.
WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE STALLS, WITH INABILITY TO ACCELERATE, REQUIRING VEHICLE TO BE STOPPED, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN APPEARED, WHICH AFTER TAKING VEHICLE TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAS DETERMINED TO BE A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY WHICH I WAS TOLD HAS BEEN COMMON IN FORD VEHICLES/MAKES/MODELS
I WAS DIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55-60MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE JERKED TWICE THEN STARTED DECELERATING RAPIDLY. AT THAT TIME PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT AND I HAD TO PULL OVER ON TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID GETTING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES BUT IT DID NOT STOP SHAKING AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. I TURNED MY CAR OFF HALFWAY ON THE HIGHWAY AND HALF ON THE SHOULDER WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES I TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF AND MY CAR OPERATED NORMALLY. THE SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT TAKE MY CAR THAT DAY. I WAS LEAVING FOR VACATION THE NEXT DAY AND PLANNED ON GOING IN MY ELXPLORER BUT DID NOT FEEL SAFE SO I DROPPED IT OFF AT A LOCAL MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIDN'T SHOW ANYTHING AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR IN WHILE THE LIGHT WAS ON, WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE THE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE WHILE THE LIGHT IS ON. THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES WITHIN A WEEK. I'M AM SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH MY CHILDREN IN IT.
ENGINE WAS REVVING AND JERKING IN TO THE NEXT GEAR WHILE ACCELERATING THE FIRST TIME AFTER STARTING THE CAR. AFTER THE FIRST CYCLE THROUGH GEARS, THE ISSUE NO LONGER HAPPENED. WHILE BEING A 2013, THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 36,500 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF VALVE BODY AND SELENOID BODY DUE TO THE SEALS IN THE DIRECT CLUTCH BEING "DESTROYED." THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE COMPLETELY TAKEN APART TO FIND THE CAUSE, COSTING NEARLY $4,000 IN REPAIRS.

RED MCCOMBS FORD (8333, I-10, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78230, (210) 996-2678) WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT HAVE THE PART WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
OUTSTANDING RECALL SINCE 2019 NOT FIXED. VEHICLE MIGHT HAVE A FRACTURED REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK.
OUR POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON OUR 2013 FORD EXPLORER WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY HE DIDN'T CRASH THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED BECAUSE IT IMMEDIATELY MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO USE HIS STEERING. THE STEERING IS COMPLETELY OUT AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I CHECKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND HIS CAR IS JUST OUTSIDE THE MANUFACTURE DATE FOR THE RECALL THAT WAS DONE IN 2014 ON 2011-2013 FORD EXPLORERS. WE ARE NOW OUT OF POCKET OVER $2000 BECAUSE WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION. ALSO, WHEN I CALLED FORD REGARDING THIS PROBLEM I WAS TOLD IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE PART IN THE FUTURE I WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED AND SHOULD WAIT TO HAVE IT FIXED UNTIL THERE IS A RECALL.
2013 FORD EXPLORER TRANSFER CASE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION AND THE EPS WARNING INDICATOR RANDOMLY ILLUMINATED. SCOTT FORD (17812 VETERANS MEMORIAL HWY, KINGWOOD, WV 26537, (304) 329-3673) WAS URGENTLY NOTIFIED, BUT FAILED TO PROVIDE AN APPOINTMENT. THE CONTACT ORDERED A STEERING RACK AND HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACE THE PART, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED AN UPDATE TO THE CONTROL MODULE. WITHIN TWO BUSINESS DAYS, THE EPS INDICATOR FLASHED AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED, WHICH INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE SAFELY DRIVEN. ASTORG FORD LINCOLN OF PARKERSBURG (2028 7TH ST, PARKERSBURG, WV 26101, 304-485-8585) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT HAD NOT YET PROVIDED A REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
I RECENTLY HAVE NOTICED WATER ON THE 3RD SEAT BELTS. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO THOUGHT THE WATER WAS COMING FROM A PLUG IN THE REAR. SEALED IT BUT STILL HAD ISSUES. TOOK THE PANELS OFF IN THE TRUNK AND RAN THE WATER TEST AGAIN. FOUND THE ISSUE WAS COMING FROM THE SIDES OF THE TAILGATE AT THE TOP WHERE THE WELD APPEARS TO BE CRACKING LETTING WATER IN ON BOTH SEATBELTS AND INTO THE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMMENTS TO THE SAME ISSUE. HAPPENS ANYTIME WATER IS HITTING THE CAR LIKE RAIN OR CAR WASH.
Three times, we have had to replace the front windshield pillar trim…twice is flew off during driving on the Interstate. It seems the weatherstripping peels back first and started flapping in the wind, and then the pillar trim rips off.
WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. THE POWER STEELING AND STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON WITH A WARNING. THE POWER STEERING FAILURE NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS ON A CITY STREET AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE TURNING.
THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS I WAS STARTING TO TURN. I WAS LETTING OFF THE BRAKE AND BARELY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND AS I STARTED TO TURN THE WHEEL, A WARNING MESSAGE POPPED UP STATING THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST HAD FAILED. I COULD STILL TURN THE WHEEL (WITH QUITE A BIT OF EFFORT) , SO I COMPLETED MY TURN VERY SLOWLY AND MOVED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED AGAIN. AFTER THAT, THE POWER STEERING FAILED 5 TIMES WHILE I WAS BACKING UP. EACH TIME I TURNED ON THE CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, THEN AS I WOULD LET OFF THE BRAKE AND JUST TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL AND START TO TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SEIZE UP AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE NOTICE WOULD POP UP. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. BROUGHT IT INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALL.
THE BACK UP CAMERA JUST STARTED WORKING SOMETIMES AND SOMETIMES WHEN WE GO IN REVERSE IT WILL COME ON THEN GO AWAY AND SAYS TO CONTACT DEALERSHIP. THIS ISSUE JUST STARTED.

HI I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 67,000 MILES ON IT. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS NOT WORKING AND I HAVE NO STEERING AT ALL. I HAVE LOOKED ON LINE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL RECALLS FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE BUT UPON CALLING A FORD DEALER, THEY SAID MY VEHICLE VIN# IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY CAR SPECIFICALLY IS NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL WHEN I HAVE READ ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES AND THEIR VEHICLE IS IN RECALL. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS THE VERY SAME VEHICLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND HIS EXPLORER WAS RECALLED. I THINK THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT FROM FORD BUT FAIL TO LIST ALL 2013 EXPLORER WITH THIS SAME RECALL WHICH CAN BE FATAL DURING DRIVING AND HAVING YOUR STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP ON YOU. 2013 FORD EXPLORER PARKED IN A PARKING LOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER BEING DRIVEN 2 MILES AT 9:30 A.M. ON FIRST START ON A 95-DEGREE DAY. ON STARTING ONE HOUR LATER, 10:30 A.M., THE CAR STARTED, IT WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, BUT ON HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE A SLIGHT TURN WHILE BACKING UP FROM THE PARKING SPACE TO LEAVE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY FROZEN AND WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND LET THE CAR DRIFT BACK FORWARD INTO THE PARKING SPOT. STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY FROZEN, WOULD NOT MOVE. SHIFTED THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR MOVED FORWARD ON ITS OWN, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THE CAR AGAIN MOVED A LITTLE, BUT I COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. THIS ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH: POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. TURNED OFF ENGINE, LEFT IT OFF 5 SECONDS, RESTARTED, AND POWER ASSIST STEERING FAILURE CODE DID NOT COME ONE. I DROVE THE 2 MILES HOME, PRAYING THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT GO OUT AND FREEZE UP AGAIN WHILE BEING DRIVE. 3 HOURS LATER THE CAR IS OPERATING NORMALLY SO FAR, BUT A COMPLETE POWER STEERING FAILURE IS LIFE THREATENING AND COULD REOCCUR IN THIS VEHICLE AT ANY TIME, RESULTING IN INJURY, DEATH, AND DAMAGE TO THE CAR. FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM IN 2011 FORD EXPLORERS AND ISSUED A RECALL. AS MY 2013 EXPLORER HAS THE SAME EPAS PROBLEM, FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE OWNERS. MY CAR EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING. THE POWER STEERING MODULE DID NOT ALLOW MANUAL INPUT AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED IN PLACE AND WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. THE PROBLEM STARTED GRADUALLY MAKING A POPPING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. IT THEN CHANGED TO A GRINDING SOUND AND THE STEERING WOULD GET STUCK AND THEN POP LOOSE. I EXPERIENCED THIS ON A TRIP OUT OF TOWN WHEN I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DRIVING BACK HOME. I STOPPED FOR GAS AND WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE CAR IT SAID "SERVICE POWER STEERING" THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER SAID "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW". BEFORE ALL OF THIS HAPPENED THERE WERE NO ERROR MESSAGES OR SERVICE MESSAGES DISPLAYED. THE FORD DEALER IN TOPEKA, KS IDENTIFIED THE RACK AND PINION AND WORM GEAR AS THE FAULT AND NONE OF THE TECHNICIANS KNOW WHY NO MANUAL INPUT WAS BEING ACCEPTED BY THE CAR TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN A LITTLE BIT. I FEEL LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE RECALL 14S06 FROM 2014 BUT APPARENTLY MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED A FEW DAYS AFTER THE DATES THAT FORD DEFINED IN THAT RECALL. I AM OUT OVER $3000.00 FOR THE REPAIR, TOWING, RIDE TO GET TO THE RENTAL CAR 100 MILES AWAY, RENTAL CAR, AND SHIPPING OF MY TRUCK AFTER REPAIR TO MY HOME. ALL I WANT FORD TO DO IS ADMIT THAT THE DATES THAT THEY PUT ON THE RECALL WERE NOT INCLUSIVE OF ALL VEHICLES THAT WERE AFFECTED.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS. SO I TRIED TO PULL OVER AND NOTICED I COULDN'T EVEN MOVE MY STEERING WHEEL IS WAS SO HARD TO TURN. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET AND WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE TOWED INTO THE REPAIR SHOP DOWN THE STREET. THEY TOOK ONE LOOK AT IT AND SAID THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL FAULT WITH IT AND IT IS A RECALL ON THE FORD EXPLORER. SO HE GAVE ME THE RECALL NUMBER AND I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT'S NOT PART OF THE RECALL! EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE FALLS WITHIN THE DATE RANGE OF BEING ASSEMBLED AND IT IS A 2013. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER IT AND NOW THEY WANT $2,430 TO REPAIR. I READ THE WHOLE RECALL AND MY TRUCK DID WHAT THE RECALL SAID IT WAS DOING. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUCK SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. IT WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND I HAD TO BRING IT BACK A WEEK LATER AS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS BAD. ONE & A 1/2 YEARS LATER I HAD TO REPLACE THE CC AGAIN AND JUST LAST SUMMER IT IS NOW ON IT'S THIRD CC.
