HAVING A ISSUE HEADLIGHTS GOING OFF. MOSTLY ONE BUB AT A TIME BUT NOT ALWAYS THE SAME BUB OR BOTH BUDS GO OFF BUT ALWAYS TURN BACK ON ONCE I PLACE SWITCH BACK IN OFF POSITION AND TURN THEM BACK ON. AFTER BEING PULLED OVER BY LOCAT SHIERFF IS WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE FOR MY HEADLIGHT BEING OUT. TROUBLE HAD GOTTEN WORST OF TIME. I SPOKE TO A LOCAL STATE TROOPER AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS KNOWN ISSUE WITH NEWER FORD HEADLIGHTS. I WENT DEALERSHIP AND I EXPLAINED TO THEM IT SEEM LIKE A ELECTRICAL POWER ISSUE. I WAS THAT THE HARNESS OVER TIME GETS MOISTURE IN IT AND HAD TO GREASE TO KEEP IT FROM HAPPENING. HE SAID IT WILL BE OVER $1000 TO GET IT FIX WITH THE SYMPTOMS I PROVIDED HIM. ON LONG STRAIGHT TRIP AT A STEAD SPEED THE LIGHT DO NOT GO OUT, BUT DRIVING AROUND TOWN IT HAPPENS NOW ON A REGULAR.
PERIODICALLY WHEN DRIVING AND OR STOPPED OR SLOWING DOWN AT AN INTERSECTION I SMELL GAS OR FUMES OR WHAT MAY BE CARBON MONOXIDE. I NOTICE IT THE MOST WHEN DRIVING FOR A LONGER DISTANCE, LIKE MORE THAN 30 MINS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS THE DATE LISTED BELOW WAS JUST THE LAST TIME I NOTICED IT. IT MAKES ME AND FAMILY SICK TO OUR STOMACH AND INSTANTLY HAVE HEADACHES. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TWICE TO WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY CANT SEEM TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. PURCHASED CAR FROM CARMAX ON 1/17/15.
DASHBOARD AND CENTER CONSOLE SEVERELY VIBRATE WHEN CLOSING DOOR WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. . DIAGNOSED VEHICLE AT ALL AMERICAN FORD IN PARAMUS NJ. TECH ADVISED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING LOOSE IN STEERING GEAR MOTOR AND IT MAY FAIL AT ANY TIME. STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. AFTER EXPENSIVE REPAIR NO MORE VIBRATION IS PRESENT.
EXHAUST ENTERING CABIN DURING ACCELERATION.
DOOR AJAR IS ON EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSE AND ALARM FOR THIS KEEPS GOING OFF ALSO THE INSIDE FRONT INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON.THIS IN ON GOING HAD IT FIX ONCE AND NOW ITS BACK AGAIN.WITH 24,000 MILES AND THOUSANDS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND WHEN DRIVING.
LOSS OF DRIVE CONTROL TRANSMISSION SHIFTS OUT OF FIRST GEAR AND RPMS GO UP TO REV LIMIT, BUT NO OR EXTREMELY SLOW FORWARD MOTION LIKE THE VEHICLE IS STUCK BETWEEN 1ST GEAR AND NEUTRAL. HAPPENED TWICE FROM A COLD START SEVERAL MONTHS BETWEEN OCCURRENCES. START VEHICLE, BACK OUT OF DRIVEWAY, STOP, CHANGE TO DRIVE, MOVE FORWARD ABOUT 200 FEET AND THE SHIFT FROM 1ST TO SECOND GEAR DOES NOT HAPPEN CORRECTLY LIKE THE VEHICLE IS STUCK IN 1ST GEAR OR NEUTRAL. VERY UNSAFE, CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS. ALSO SOME UNEXPECTED HARD UPSHIFTS / DOWNSHIFTS.
ROTTEN EGG/SULFUR SMELL IN CABIN DURING HARD ACCELERATION / C02 INFILTRATION CAUSING PASSENGER HEADACHES / NAUSEA. WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY OR FREEWAY SPEEDS OR ACCELERATING TO PASS A VEHICLE THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT SULFUR SMELL IN THE CABIN. THE SMELL IS SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON AND IN RECIRCULATE MODE, BUT IS PRESENT REGARDLESS OF AC OR RECIRC MODE (CAN BE WHEN VENT OR HEAT IS ACTIVE ALSO).
EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CAR. COVERED BY TSB 12-12-04 AND 12-14-0130. WE SMELL FUMES AND ITS UNBEARABLE TO DRIVE. WHEN WE DRIVE THE SMELL GETS WORSE AND WORSE.
SINCE MY PURCHASE OF MY 2013 IN DECEMBER OF 2016, I'VE ALWAYS NOTICED A STRANGE ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I FIRST THOUGHT THIS WAS NORMAL AND NOW AFTER MY MOM CALLED ME ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE FORD EXPLORERS, I'VE REALLY BEEN PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THE SMELL. SOMETIMES I JUST LET MY WINDOWS DOWN SOME WHILE DRIVING. AND WITH THE GROWING CONCERN ABOUT THE POLICE OFFICERS VEHICLES WHAT ABOUT US CIVILIANS? MY GRANDKIDS AND MYSELF AND KIDS RIDE IN MY FORD EXPLORER DAILY. ARE WE NOT WORTH PROTECTING BY FORD ISSUING A RECALL TO ENSURE ALL VEHICLE OWNERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE SAFE? I WILL BE GETTING MY VEHICLE CHECKED AS WELL AS MY FAMILY TO MAKE SURE WE ARE SAFE NOT JUST POLICE OFFICERS. I HAVE NOTICED THIS ODOR WHEN MY EXPLORER HAS BEEN IDLING WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ALSO I'VE BEEN HAVING HEADACHES BUT NOT SURE IF THE ODOR IS THE CAUSE. THE BELOW DATE IS JUST ONE TIME. NOT SURE OF OTHER EXACT DATES DUE TO THINKING THE SMELL WAS A NORMAL SMELL
"TAKATA RECALL" I PURCHASED A 2013 FORD EXPLORER AND THE WINDSHIELD PILLAR HAS COMPLETELY FLOWN OFF WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD , I HAD THE DRIVERS SIDE FIXED AND 2 DAYS LATER THE PASSENGERS SIDE FLEW OFF. THANKS GOODNESS THIS DID NOT CAUSE A WRECK. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS, AND IT COST AROUND 400 TO FIX. ATTACHED IS A PICTURE OF ONE SIDE BEFORE IT FLEW OFF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE ADVANCE TRAC SYSTEM AND SERVICE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTO PLAZA DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT NEEDED A NEW STEERING COLUMN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE POWER STEERING BECAME LOOSE, AND THE SERVICE ADVANCETRAC AND SERVICE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PARKED AT A NEARBY RESTAURANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (PALM SPRINGS MOTORS LOCATED AT 69200 CA-111, CATHEDRAL CITY, CA 92234; (760) 328-2102) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-392-3673 AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: CAS-12599770. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,988.
WE (MY HUSBAND, MY 10YEAR OLD, MY 7YEAR OLD AND MY ALMOST 2 MONTH OLD BABY AND I)WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, (WE WERE GOING TO MICHIGAN FOR THE WEEKEND) WHEN I STARTED NOTICING THAT IT REQUIRED SOME EFFORT TO MAINTAIN THE CAR IN LANE, AFTER A WHILE SOME LIGHTS WENT ON "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" AND "SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK"..., SO I GOT OUT OF THE HIGHWAY WITH DIFFICULTY BECAUSE IT FELT WEIRD DRIVING IT, I COULDN'T KEEP IT STRAIGHT WITHOUT EFFORT. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON-AGAIN, MY HUSBAND CHECKED IT, EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. WE WENT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY HUSBAND DRIVING THIS TIME AND AFTER A LITTLE WHILE THE WHEEL JUST GOT SO HARD THAT HE COULD BARELY TURN IT. HE GOT OUT OF THE HIGHWAY WRESTLING THE WHEEL BECAUSE IT WAS SO HARD. MY HUSBAND IS VERY STRONG, SO I KNOW IF HE WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY THEN THE WHEEL WAS REALLY BAD. THANK GOD HE WAS WITH ME AND THANKFULLY THE WHEEL THING HAPPENED TO HIM. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ME, I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL IT. I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT WE DIDN'T END UP IN AN ACCIDENT JUST THE THOUGHT OF IT SCARES ME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CHECKED IT AND SAID THAT THE COST TO FIX IT IS $2000.00. I CONTACTED FORD SO THAT THEY COULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR. SINCE THE GUARANTY WAS OVER THEY DIDN'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. KNOWING THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM IT'S A FACT THAT THERE IS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO CAUSE THE CAR TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FORD EXPLORER 2013 FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING SYSTEM, BUT THE RECALL WAS FOR CARS BUILT UP TO JUNE 2012 AND MINE WAS BUILT IN JULY. AS I TOLD THEM, YES, MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL; NEVERTHELESS I DID HAVE THE PROBLEM FOR WHICH OTHER CARS WERE RECALLED!! THANK GOD WE ARE ALL OK BUT FOR ALL I KNOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. ALL I ASKED WAS TO GET MY CAR TO WORK THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO.
THE PASSENGER SIDE 'A' PILLAR PLASTIC COVER FLEW OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. CARS BEHIND ME SWERVED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. THE RUBBER GASKET WAS DANGLING AND CONSEQUENTLY BLOCKING THE PASSENGER REAR VIEW SIDE MIRROR. FORD IS STATING THAT IT 'IS NOT A FACTORY DEFECT' AND CONSEQUENTLY I SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT (EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, AND ALSO PURCHASED THEIR 'PREMIUM CARE WARRANTY.) THE CAR HAS 40K MILES ON IT.
I STOPPED FOR GAS ON A LONG DRIVE. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AND STARTED IT NO SOUND WOULD COME OUT OF THE SPEAKERS. ALL THE STATIONS WERE WORKING JUST NO SOUND AT ALL.
THE SERVICE POWER ASSIST AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC WARNINGS COME ON WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. NO PROBLEM IF CONTINUE DRIVING, HOWEVER IF TURN OFF POWER IT BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER WHEN TURNED BACK ON. THE BLINKERS WILL ALSO NOT WORK WHEN THIS ERROR HAPPENS. BOUGHT BRAND NEW RACK AND PINION FROM FORD DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM.
I HAD THE SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE THE OTHER 150+ PEOPLE HAVE POSTED. FORD RECALL -14S06, NHTSA RECALL - 14V-286. FORD IS 100% AWARE OF THIS AND THEIR OFFICIAL STANCE IS THEY WILL NOT TAKE ANY ACTION UNLESS THE NHTSB DIRECTS THEM TO. MY GOAL OF REPORTING THIS INFORMATION IS TO HOPEFULLY HAVE AN INVESTIGATION OPENED. I TRULY HOPE IT DOES NOT TAKE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR DEATH FOR THIS TO GET THE PROPER ATTENTION IT DESERVES. I DON'T BLAME NHTSB ON THIS AS I'M SURE LIKE MANY ORGANIZATIONS THEY ARE FOCUSED ON THE URGENT TOP ISSUES. I'VE DRIVEN A NUMBER OF VEHICLES AND WHILE THERE HAVE BEEN FAILURES THAT HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATING, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAD SOMETHING HAPPEN WHERE I WAS TRULY CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SOUNDS TILL ROUGHLY AN HOUR OR 70 MILES AFTER I HAD BEEN DRIVING AND DEALING WITH THE ISSUE. THIS IS IN DIRECT CONTRACTION TO FORDS STANCE THAT DRIVERS ARE NOTIFIED. EVEN WITH THAT CONCENTRATED EFFORT I WAS NOT ABLE TO STAY IN MY LANE. IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON THE FREEWAY. AS MY VEHICLE WOULD START TO DRIFT OUT OF A STRAIGHT LINE I WOULD MAKE A MINOR CORRECTION, THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO DRIFT, SO I MADE AN INCREASED CORRECTION, THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE A DELAYED RESPONSE TO MY INPUTS WHICH CAUSED OVER CORRECTION AND REQUIRED ME TO COUNTER CORRECT IN AN EFFORT TO STAY IN MY LANE. THE ISSUE IN MOST CASES APPEARS WITHIN 59,000 TO 73,000 MILES. AS 2013+ EXPLORERS HIT THIS MILEAGE THE NUMBER OF DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WILL INCREASE. THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 30 REPORTED INSTANCES IN JUST THE LAST 4 MONTHS ALONE NOT COUNTING OTHER MODEL YEARS. THIS DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT PEOPLE NOT REPORTING SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. IN TOTAL THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 150 REPORTS AND THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE EARLY POPULATION OF 2013 VEHICLES THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
THE FRONT EDGE OF MY HOOD IS NOW CORRODED ALL THE WAY ACROSS MY ALUMINUM HOOD. THERE ARE MULTIPLE 'RUST' BUBBLES AND NOW PAINT IS FALLING OFF. THE REST OF THE CAR IS PRETTY MUCH IMMACULATE.
ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO MY CAR STALLED AFTER BEING PARKED AT A MAJOR HIGHWAY RED LIGHT. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON (POWER TRAIN ISSUE) BUT AFTER SHUTTING OFF & RESTARTING THE CAR WORKED FINE. I HAD IT SERVICED AFTER & IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL LAST FRIDAY,6/16/17. AGAIN AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A LIGHT ON A MAJOR ROAD & CAUSING ME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED 6 TIMES IN A WEEK. ALWAYS AFTER A STOP SIGN/LIGHT. EVERY TIME IT SEEMS TO LOSE ENGINE POWER, THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR SLOWS TO A SCARY SLOW SPEED. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, THE LIGHT GOES AWAY AND THE CAR COMES BACK ON. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ONLINE WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY LIKE OTHERS HAVE HAD. ON 6/20/17 WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND GOT THE CODE P2111 (THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM - STUCK OPEN). THEY CLEANED THE PART, THE CODE WENT AWAY AND IT'S BEEN STALL FREE UNTIL TODAY, 6/23/17. I DIDN'T MAKE IT A STREET OVER FROM MY HOUSE BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT A 4-WAY STOP. I IMMEDIATELY CAME BACK HOME AND THE CAR WILL SIT IN MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL I TAKE IT TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED. AFTER READING SO MANY ACCOUNTS OF THIS HAPPENING AND CERTAIN MODELS GETTING RECALLED OR "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PLANS" I DON'T GET HOW FORD HASN'T HAD TO REPLACE THEM ALL. IT IS DANGEROUS! I AM FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO NOT HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, BUT I AM LITERALLY SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE MY CAR. IF I DO I SPEND THE ENTIRE TIME TENSE & DRIVING SLOW IN THE RIGHT LANE IN CASE IT STALLS & I HAVE TO PULL OVER. FORD SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH HAVING SCARED DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WHEN THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES. MY CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD AND I TAKE CARE OF IT. I SHOULD NOT BE SCARED TO LEAVE MY HOUSE IN IT. NOR DO I THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $100+ IT'S GOING TO TAKE TO REPLACE A PART THEY KNOW TO BE FAULTY.
MY 2013 EXPLORER LOSSES POWER STEERING DUE TO MECHANICAL MALFUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. IT WAS DISCOVERED THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAD FAILED DUE TO OVERHEATING. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, MY VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL 14V286000 WHICH WAS NOTED MAY 29, 2014. I REPAIRED THE CAR AT THE COST $2,600.00. I CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO QUARK AND QUINCY LOCATED IN QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY RECALL PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
MY 2013 EXPLORER HOOD WAS PEELING AND I HAVE TO HAVE IT REPAINTED. IT WAS RUSTING. ALSO I SMELL FUEL FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE, IT IS SO BAD, YOU HAVE TO STOP THE CAR AND GET OUT TO BREATH.

WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER POWERED OFF THE ENGINE, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE CONTACT CALLED SAM PACK'S FIVE STAR FORD CARROLLTON AT (972) 242-6415 (LOCATED AT 1635 S INTERSTATE 35E, CARROLLTON, TX 75006) WHERE AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEFORE. HOWEVER, LAST WEEKEND DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY BOYFRIEND AND I HEAR THIS LOUD "THUMP". BOTH OF US THOUGHT MAYBE A BIRD HIT US OR SOMETHING BECAUSE THERE HADN'T BEEN ANYTHING IN THE ROAD. SO WE PULL OF THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT, GET OUT TO EXPECT FEATHERS, BUT INSTEAD FIND THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDSHIELD PILLAR TRIM MOLDING WAS COMPLETELY GONE. HAD BEEN RIPPED OFF BY THE WIND - WHICH IT WASN'T EVEN WINDY THAT DAY, JUST THE WIND OF GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. DROPPED IT OFF TO THE DEALERSHIP LAST NIGHT TO BE FIXED AND THEY TOLD US THIS IS A "COMMON ISSUE" WITH THE EXPLORERS! HOW CAN THIS BE A COMMON ISSUE AND NO FIX IN PLACE??? IT IS IN FOR SERVICE NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP AND I'M STILL WAITING TO HEAR IF THIS IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT.
"TAKATA RECALL" I PURCHASED A 2013 FORD EXPLORER NEW WITH 6 MILES I CURRENTLY HAVE 59900 MILES AND DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY MY DRIVERS SIDE WINDSHIELD TRIM FLEW OFF BY ITSELF WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-392-3673 AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

SOME POLICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE PULLED THE VEHICLES AND ARE NOT USING THEM ANYMORE BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUS. FORD SAID THEY WILL REPAIR THE ISSUE AT NO COST. THE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR ON MANY FORD PRODUCTS IS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSES THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT TO COME ON EVEN WHEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON AT NIGHT AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE DOORS TO BE LOCKED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. IT IS DANGEROUS NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS AS CHILDREN COULD OPEN THE DOORS ACCIDENTALLY AND FALL OUT. IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS HAVING THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AS WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED A SERVICE BULLETIN IS AVAILABLE ABOUT THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVED, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE DOOR AJAR. BATTERY DRAINS QUICKLY AFTER GETTING NEW ON WITHIN A YEAR. BRAKES ALSO CONTINUES SQUEAKS AFTER GETTING THEM FIXED.
THERE IS A VERY PROMINENT FUEL SMELL IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR. THIS IS PREVALENT WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING, AIR VENTS ARE TURNED ON, AND THE CAR IS EITHER STOPPED (SUCH AS IN TRAFFIC, STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, ETC) OR SLOWLY ROLLING. THE FUMES ARE SO BAD IT SOMETIMES BURNS MY EYES AND I HAVE TO SHUT OFF THE HEAT IN THE CAR SO IT WILL STOP CIRCULATING. THIS OCCURS REGARDLESS IF I AM ACCELERATING OR JUST DRIVING SLOWLY. I FIRST NOTICED THIS IN JUNE OF 2017. I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN GETTING DIZZY AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND HAVE 3 SMALL CHILDREN THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND IN IT.

ON MAY 31, 2017, I WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION IN WHICH MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER STRUCK A RED LIGHT RUNNER AT APPROXIMATELY 35 - 40 MPH. MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE. THE DEALERSHIP DID A HORRIBLE JOB IN THE "REPAIR" - HAVING BROKEN OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR IN THE PROCESS. AFTER THEY "REPAIRED" THE CAR, IT BEGAN RANDOMLY SHUDDERING, WHILE IDLING. BOTH INSTANCES WERE REPAIRED AT FUTURE FORD IN CLOVIS CA. I LIVE IN VERY HOT SUMMER ENVIRONMENT. I FEEL THE SUN IS BAKING THE BLACK WINDOW TRIMS AND CAUSING THE RETAINING CLIPS, AND ADHESIVE, TO WEAKEN. BOTH TIMES HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN A STRONG CROSSWIND IN THE LATE MORNING. TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE 80'S. THIS TIME, WAS IN THE EARLY MORNING, APPROXIMATELY 0830. THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE HIGH 60'S.

MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER SPORT HAS AN AWFUL, ROTTEN EGG SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN, EVERY TIME I PRESS ON THE GAS FOR QUICK ACCELERATION. IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME ON QUICK ACCELERATION. SMELLS GASEOUS. I'M AFRAID THAT CARBON MONOXIDE OR OTHER GASES ARE LEAKED INTO THE CABIN SOMEHOW, WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL. I'M AFRAID THAT EVEN WHEN I'M NOT DOING A QUICK ACCELERATION, GASES ARE STILL LEAKING IN, YET HARDER TO DETECT. MANY TIMES I HAVE GOTTEN TERRIBLE HEADACHES DURING LONG DISTANCES OF DRIVING. I HAVE GOTTEN NAUSEA FEELING AS WELL AS LIGHT HEADEDNESS MULTIPLE TIMES AS WELL. I'M VERY WORRIED. THE MOST SCARY THING IS THAT I HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD, AND A PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND WITH A DUE DATE IN DECEMBER 2017. I WILL BE DEVASTATED IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO THEM. A CERTIFIED FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED OUR VEHICLE FOR EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE CABINET THROUGH UNSEALED SEAMS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. WE TOOK THE EXPLORER IN FOR A DIAGNOSES AFTER SMELLING WHAT APPEARED TO BE EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE CAR. AT THE TIME, WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WAS CAUSING THE FUMES SMELL, SO MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR IN AN ATTEMPT TO RULE OUT A FEW ISSUES. NOT EVEN 20 MINUTES INTO DRIVING, HE FELT NAUSEOUS AND DIZZY. THE THIRD OCCASION WAS WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE IN MOTION, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP AGAIN...LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THAT SEEM TO FIX THE ISSUE. WE HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH CARBON MONOXIDE ENTERING THE PASSENGER CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE IS A MARKED POLICE DEPARTMENT PATROL VEHICLE, A 2013 FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITY SUV (EXPLORER). WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND IT STILL HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN EQUIPPED WITH AN AFTER-MARKET CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. WHEN THE DRIVER QUICKLY ACCELERATES WHILE THE HVAC SYSTEM IS IN "RECIRCULATE" MODE, THE DRIVER CAN SMELL EXHAUST FUMES. THE CO DETECTOR ALSO GIVES AN ALARM. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL FIRE STATION, WHERE THEY USED AN INDUSTRIAL GAS DETECTOR, AND THEY HAVE DETECTED UP TO 35 PPM OF CO IN THE FRONT SEAT AREA. (THE FIREFIGHTERS TOLD US THEY ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AT 35 PPM.) THE DRIVER'S BLOOD LEVEL OF CARBON MONOXIDE ALSO HAS BEEN TESTED, AND 5 PPM OF CO WAS FOUND IN HIS BLOOD IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE (HE IS NOT A SMOKER). TWO PRIMARY REPAIRS ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THE FIRST WAS TO REPAIR A "PINHOLE" LEAK IN A GASKET ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE SECOND WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, WHERE THE REAR BUMPER WAS REMOVED AND SEALANT WAS APPLIED AROUND SOME VENTS. NEITHER REPAIR WAS SUCCESSFUL. WE ARE PREPARING TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE 6TH TIME. WE HAVE HAD TO PAY OUT-OF-POCKET FOR ALL REPAIR ATTEMPTS SO FAR. RIGHT NOW, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED AND WE CANNOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT IS TOO DANGEROUS.
