WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET MY VEHICLE LURCHED AND THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT LIGHT AND ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND I LOST MY POWER STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT IT OFF AND WAITER FOR ABOUT A MINUTE THEN RESTARTED IT. IT IDLED ROUGH FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN SMOOTHED OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. *TR
I HAD NO PRIOR ISSUES WITH STEERING AND I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE SEPTEMBER 29, 2016. I PARKED MY VEHICLE AT HOME OVERNIGHT AND WHEN I STARTED IT THE NEXT MORNING, THE POWER STEERING FAIL WARNING POPPED UP ON MY DASH AND IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.
MY FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF AND IT IS IN THE OFF MODE. I WAS DRIVING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY EXPLORER WILL LOSE ALL POWER AFTER 30-45 MINUTES IT WILL RESTART AND RUN FINE FOR A DAY OR SO AND THEN HAPPEN AGAIN. WHEN IT LOSES POWER ALL OF THE WARNINGS WILL APPEAR AND THE RADIO WILL STILL WORK. WHEN I RESTART THE VEHICLE IT TAKES A MINUTE FOR THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS WHEN I AM DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH. I SEE THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS BUT NO RECALL! THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING A BOTH 35-40 MPH ON CITY STREETS AND HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF ABOUT SIX TIMES. *TR
MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER HAS HAD ITS POWER STEERING ASSIST STOP WORKING 3 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING ON A MILD TURN ON A 2 LANE BLACKTOP WINDING ROAD - COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS A RECALLED ITEM FOR THESE CARS FROM 2011 THROUGH 2013 BUT BASED ON MY VIN NUMBER FORD IS SAYING THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. MY CAR OBVIOUSLY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALLED VINS ON FILE. FORD WANT ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR ANDS KEEP MY RECEIPT IN CASE A RECALL IS ISSUED LATER (OR SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY DIES BECAUSE OF THIS). *TR
MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER WAS IN PARK GOT OUT OF VEHICLE TO UNLOAD MY MOBILITY SCOOTER, WHILE I WAS AT BACK OF VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING AWAY FROM ME , WIFE YELLED AT ME THE VEHICLE WAS ROLLING AWAY, I JUMPED BACK INTO VEHICLE AND PUT MY FOOT ON BRAKE , STARTED VEHICLE AND BACKED IT UP A FEW FEET FROM WHERE I ORIGINALLY PARKED IT , NOTE VEHICLE WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE FROM GARAGE DOOR. THE VEHICLE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN PARK AT TIME VEHICLE WAS MOVING. NOTE EVERY NOW AND THEN THE PARK MESSAGE ABOUT NOT BEING IN PARK COMES ON WHEN VEHICLE PARK SHIFT LEVER IS IN PARK. AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT NO MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON INSTRUMENT PANEL THIS EVENT HAPPEN ON 01-08-2017 AT AROUND 9:15 PM AT ARE APARTMENT IN TULSA OKLAHOMA. *TR
STRONG EXHAUST/GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN WHILE DRIVING WITH WINDOWS CLOSED AND THE AIR CONDITIONING ON.
UNABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. HAPPENED WHEN REVERSING OUT OF PARKING SPACE. NO WARNINGS ISSUED.
STRONG SMELL OF GAS COMING OUT OF THE AIR VENTS, HAPPENS ALL THE TIME DRIVING AT ANY SPEED,OR PARKED SUV HAS ONLY 40000 MILES.
THE CAR HAS ROTTEN EGG BAD/SMELL INSIDE THE CAR SINCE THE EARLY OF THE CAR OWNERSHIP. WE BROUGHT TO CAR TO THE DEALER 2 YEARS AGO TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL, BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE MILDEW. CURRENTLY, THE CAR STILL HAVE ROTTEN EGG SMELL COMING FROM THE AIR OUTLET. THE SMELL IS STRONG WHEN IT IS IDLING. I AM WORRY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY.
FUEL ODOR WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE AND EXHAUST SMELLS WHILE DRIVING
FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN GETTING A FOUL ORDER EMANATING FROM MY VEHICLE. I SMELL IT INSIDE THE CABIN AS WELL AS THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AFTER STOPPING. THE ODOR BECOMES STRONGER WITH LONGER ENGINE RUN TIMES OR HARSHER DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE ODOR DOES NOT SMELL LIKE OIL OR GAS. I CAN BEST DESCRIBE IT AS ACIDIC OR CHEMICAL. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP FOR RESOLUTION. THE SERVICE ADVISOR ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HE CAN SMELL THE ODOR AS WELL. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY COULD FIND NO SPECIFIC CAUSE FOR THE ISSUE. THE ACTION THEY TOOK WAS TO POWER WASH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT UNDER THE BELIEF THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A DEAD ANIMAL. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SMELL HAS NOT DISAPPEARED AFTER THAT DEALERSHIP ACTION. I AM OBVIOUSLY CONCERNED THAT IT IS POSING A SAFETY RISK.
EXHAUST/GAS SMELL IN CABIN. WHEN CAR IS TURNED ON AND RUNNING.
FUMES ACCUMULATE IN THE CABIN OF THE TRUCK WHILE OPERATING CAUSING LIGHTHEADEDNESS AND HEADACHES SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE
MY BLUTOOTH PAIRING WITH IPHONE WAS COMPROMISED BY SOMEONE OTHER THEN ME. IT WOULDNT LET ME LISTEN TO BLU TOOTH ON MY PHONE. WHEN IT DID LET ME LISTEN THE MUSIC THAT ONCE SOUNDED GOOD NOW NO MATTER WHAT I DID IT SOUNDED HORRIBLE. ANOTHER THING I NOTICED WAS THE PERFORMANCE SEEMED TO BE GREATLY INCREASED WITH POOR MPG AND THEN AFTER AWHILE AND STILL IS THIS WAY THERE IS A LACK OF PERFORMANCE AND THE MOTOR HAS A COMPLETELY WEIRD SOUND SINCE THIS STARTED HAPPENING. I FORGOT TO MENTION I HAD PREVIOSLY HAD MY PHONE CONNECTED THRU THE SYNC APP AND IT HAD SOME NICE FEATURES I WAS USING UNTIL ALL THIS UNEXPLAINABLE THINGS STARTED HAPPENING. ONCE I NOTICED THE VOLUME ON THE RADIO WAS ALL THE WAY UP THE NEXT TIME I HAD ENTERED MY VEHICLE. AND IT SEEMED LIKE IN 2017 IT WOULD ONLY HAPPEN WHEN I WAS NOT FAR FROM MY HOUSE AND AS TIME WENT ON IT SEEMED LIKE THEY COULD CHANGE SETTINGS NO MATTER WHERE I WAS. I WOULD PROGRAM SYNC SETTINGS AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT SYNC IS DOING EXCATLY WHAT I HAD TURNED OFF. THERE WAS A COUPLE OTHER THINGS I WROTE DOWN BACK WHEN THEY HAPPENED THAT I NEED TO FIND AND THEN I CAN REPORT BACK.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera displayed a distorted image in the opposite direction of the location. Additionally, the rear-view camera also displayed lines across the image. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the rear-view camera needed to be replaced. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
RECENTLY, ON THE HOOD OF MY CAR, THE PAINT HAS STARTED BUBBLING. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND FORD ISSED TSB ABOUT IT. I HAVE NOT CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HOOD AS THERE IS NO WAY TO REPAIR THESE AREAS.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AS A USED CAR COMING OFF OF A LEASE AT A CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 31000 MILES. THE FACTORY WARRANTY ENDED 10/2016. I FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM LATE 12/2016. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR IN THE PASSENGER CABIN DURING ALL TIMES OF OPERATION. THE ODOR IS MUCH STRONGER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY (I.E., IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT) AND IS VERY STRONG DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER HARD ACCELERATION. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE EXHAUST ODOR IS ACTUALLY COMING THROUGH THE VEHICLES VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE EXHAUST ODOR OFTEN LEAVES ME FEELING SICK IF I DO NOT CRACK OPEN THE WINDOWS FOR FRESH AIR. I HAVE CALLED MY DEALERSHIP (MILLER FORD, MOUNT HOLLY, NJ) AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED HAVING PREVIOUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, SINCE MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THE COST OF THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I NOW HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS, ENDURING THESE EXHAUST FUMES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD ADVERSELY AFFECT MY HEALTH AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS IF I WERE TO BECOME OVERWHELMED BY THE EXHAUST'S CO. I CANNOT AFFORD TO JUST STOP OPERATING THIS VEHICLE AND BUY ANOTHER.
FEW MONTHS AGO , AS I WAS BACKING UP IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME ON, COULDN'T MOVE. I TURNED ENGINE OFF AND ON LIGHT CLEARED AND WORKING FINE. THIS HAPPENED FEW TIMES PAST 4 MONTHS,. 2 DAYS AGO I WAS BACKING UP LIGHT CAME ON , 46800 MILES . COULDN'T MOVE STEERING LOCKED UP , , TURNING ENGINE ON AND OFF. 2 HOURD LATER SAME THING PANICKED I WAS AT A STORE PARKING LOT.. HAD TO LEAVE IT OVERNIGHT NO WAY TO MOVE. GOT IT TOWED TO CLOSEST FORD. GOT IT CHECKED OUT, AND ITS EPAS REPLACEMENT 1500 WHAT A NICE WAY TO END THE YEAR.
WE EXPERIENCE NOXIOUS FUMES IN THE CABIN WHEN EITHER THE HEATER OR AIR CONDITIONER ARE ON. IT SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST OR INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS OR ROTTEN EGGS (HARD TO DESCRIBE). OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP CLAIMED IT CAME FROM A LEAKING WATER PUMP (WHICH THEY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY) THAT SATURATED THE UNDER ENGINE COVER DUE TO A LEAKING WATER PUMP. DRIVING IN THE WINTER ACTUALLY REQUIRES WE CRACK SEVERAL WINDOWS AND SOMETIMES ONLY USE THE BUTT WARMERS AS IT'S TOO TOXIC SMELLING. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THE SMELL, BUT AGAIN ATTRIBUTED TO THE LEAKING COOLANT. IT'S PARTICULARLY WORSE WHEN THE SYSTEM IS IN THE RECIRCULATING MODE. SITTING IDLE AT A LIGHT OR WAITING FOR SOMEONE WITH THE SYSTEM ON IS PROBABLY THE WORST, PARTICULARLY WHEN IN RECIRCULATING MODE.
THE "DOOR AJAR" SENSOR ON MANY FORD PRODUCTS IS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSES THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT TO COME ON EVEN WHEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON AT NIGHT AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE DOORS TO BE LOCKED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. IT IS DANGEROUS NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS AS CHILDREN COULD OPEN THE DOORS ACCIDENTALLY AND FALL OUT. IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS HAVING THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AS WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED A SERVICE BULLETIN IS AVAILABLE ABOUT THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES INVOLVED, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE DOOR AJAR. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH AND EXITING THE DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" DISPLAYED ACROSS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
OIL SUPPLY LINE TO TURBO LEAKING. NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIR THROUGH FORD. THIS IS THE SAME PART FAILURE AND HAS CAUSED A RECALL IN THE 2016 - 2017 FORD EXPLORER SPORTS. FORD NEEDS TO LOOK AT PREVIOUS YEARS TO DETERMINE IF A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE FOR ALL 2011 TO PRESENT. (FIRE HAZARD)
LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. TRACTION CONTROL FAULT AND TERRAIN CONTROL FAULT CAME ON. THE STEERING BOX NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE CODES C1B00-62, U2001, U0415, AND THE SAME ISSUE THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF RECALL 14S06, BUT MY VIN IS NOT IN THE DATA BASE FOR THIS. THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY CALLS OUT VEHICLES FROM THE CHICAGO PLANT. 11TH LETTER IN MY VIN SHOWS IT CAME FROM THE CHICAGO PLANT. FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO CONSIDER THIS A RECALL ITEM, I STRONG DISAGREE WITH THEM. *TR
DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON RANDOMLY IN MY PI EXPLORER. IT GOES AWAY AFTER A WHILE. IT COMES ON WHILE IN MOTION AND WHILE STILL. MAY BE A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE DOOR. THIS NEEDS A RECALL. LOOKED HIGH AND LOW FOR A FIX AND NOTICED THAT MANY HAVE THIS ISSUE. MOST PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE PROBABLY DON'T EVEN KNOW TO POST THIS INFORMATION/ISSUE HERE. THIS PROBLEM COULD POTENTIALLY BE A VERY SERIOUS ONE IF NOT ADDRESSED/RECALLED.
EXHAUST SMELL IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING. GET RANDOM HEAD ACHES FEEL SICK TO MY STOMACH SOMETIMES.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while his wife was driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel became difficult to turn intermittently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the radio, entertainment systems, and navigation systems were inoperable during the failure. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for the repairs due to the vehicle being vandalized and experienced the failure. The independent mechanic was informed of the rack and pinion and electric power steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V286000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
DRIVER DOOR SHOWS DOOR AJAR A MAJORITY OF THE TIME WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. ISSUE WAS RESOLVED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY AND IS NOW HAPPENING AGAIN.
'TAKATA RECALL' STRONG SMELL OF SULFUR,ENGINE OIL AND GASOLINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,900.
FORD EXHAUST I AM GETTING A STRONG ROTTEN EGG SMELL AND A BURNING SMELL EVERYTIME I DRIVE MY CAR WHICH IS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED 4WD IT HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY AND WHEN I AM JUST DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. I AM NOT SURE IF IT GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WHEN THE CAR IS GOING FASTER BECAUSE IT SMELLS ALL THE TIME. I JUST HAD THE CAR TOED TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WILL NOT START. IN ADDITION I NOTICED THAT I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FROM HEADACHES, DIZZINESSAND AND FATIGUE WHILE DRIVING WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. FINALLY I NOTICED THAT WHEN THERE IS NO POWER IN THE CAR THERE IS NO WAY TO OPEN THE BACK TAILGATE TO LET PEOPLE OUT WHEN YOU ARE SITTING IN THE THIRD ROW OF THE CAR SO YOU ARE TRAPPED BACK THERE WITH THE SMELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING WITH EITHER THE AIR CONDITIONER OR HEAT ACTIVATED, THE ODOR OF CARBON MONOXIDE ENTERED THE CABIN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CONDITION WAS WORSE WHILE IN RECIRCULATION MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (HAYFORD FORD, 1330 301ST AVE NE, ISANTI, MN, 55040) WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE PER TSB: 16-0165, BUT IT WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST OF THE REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A TSB, BUT NO OPEN RECALL AND OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE DETAILED IN A CURRENT OPEN INVESTIGATION PE16008. EXHAUST SMELL IN CABIN WHEN CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM IS ON. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE AT WHEN YOU STOP AFTER DRIVING AT HIGH POWER SETTING. LIKE STOPPING AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY. ONCE YOU BEGIN DRIVING AGAIN THE ODOR IS REDUCED BUT STILL PRESENT. ON TRIPS THAT REQUIRE MORE STOP AND GO DRIVING I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING HEADACHES AND A SICKNESS TO MY STOMACH. WHICH I BELIEVE IS RELATED TO THE ODOR. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN ON GOING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000. UPDATED 01/04/17*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT HOLD WHEN IT WAS PUSHED DOWN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY TO FIX THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A PLASTIC PART THAT FAILED. UPDATED 01/05/17.*JB
MY TRUCK HAS ALMOST 120000 MILES. AND WE WERE DRIVING AND NOTICE THE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. WE WENT TO ADVANCE AUTO AND HAD THE TRUCK SCANNED TO SEE WHAT CODE WOULD COME UP. IT SAID THERE WAS TWO CYLINDER MISFIRED. AND THAT IT PROBABLY CAME FROM BAD FUEL. AND THEN THE ENGINE STARTED JUMPING AND SKIPPING. WE FINALLY GOT IT TO FIRESTONE AND THEY SAID THERE'S TAPPING AND KNOCKING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. THEY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT NOW THE TRUCK NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. THEY QUOTED ME A ROUGH ESTIMATE OF $10,000. WE'VE KEPT UP WITH ALL THE OIL CHANGES ALONG WITH HAVING THE A/C COMPRESSOR REPLACED BECAUSE IT WENT OUT AS WELL. THE WARRANTY COMPANY WILL ONLY REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A USED OR REMANUFACTURED ENGINE FOR $3700. THERE IS NO WAY A 2013 FORD EXPLORER WITH LESS THAN 120,000 MILES NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. AND WE ALSO SMELLED EXHAUST FUMES THROUGH THE VENTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE.

THE POWER TAKE-OFF UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS OF PURCHASE AT A COST OF $14781.11, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN DOUBLE THE COST HAD IT BEEN TAKEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT THIS IS AN ENDEMIC PROBLEM THAT IS NEITHER SUBJECT TO RECALL NOR PRIOR NOTICE FROM FORD. I SPOKE TO A FORD REPRESENTATIVE WHO WAS CAREFUL TO SAY THAT SHE HAD NO STATISTICS ABOUT THE PROBLEM; WHEN I ASKED HER IF FORD DID, SHE REPEATED HER PRIOR STATEMENT, AS IF COACHED. THE TAKE-OFF UNIT LEAKED FLUID EVERYWHERE, AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING AT STREET AND HIGHWAYS SPEEDS, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A DANGER TO MY FAMILY AND ME. STALLING OCCURRED EVEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE. AGAIN, I WAS SURPRISED THAT THERE IS NO NHTSA RECALL ISSUED, NOR DOES FORD NOTIFY DRIVERS OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER. YET PER THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF THESE UNITS ROUTINELY FAIL WITHIN JUST A FEW YEARS DUE TO THEIR DESIGN. A GREAT WAY FOR FORD TO LOSE CUSTOMERS AS WELL. *TR
VEHICLE PARKED OVERNIGHT. STARTED VEHICLE TO LEAVE GARAGE. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME ONTO SCREEN. STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN, LOCKED UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN 3 WEEKS. THIS IS A KNOWN STEERING GEAR PROBLEM.
MY CAR REGULARLY SHOWS THAT THE DRIVER DOOR IS AJAR. IT WILL NOT REGISTER THAT IT CLOSES, AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO LOCK THE DOOR. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND I MUST REPEATEDLY OPEN AND SHUT THE DOOR INDEFINITELY UNTIL IT FINALLY REGISTERS THAT THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS FAULTY DOOR SENSOR/LATCH ISSUE HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER FORD MODELS BUT NOT THE EXPLORER YET TO MY KNOWLEDGE. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BOTH PARKED AND IN MOTION. I NOTED THE MOST RECENT DATE ON THE CALENDAR BUT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW.
PASSENGER FRONT AND DRIVER BACK SEAT BELTS WILL NOT EXTEND
I HAVE 2013 EXPLORER SPORT.. I HAVE EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE CABIN THROUGH THE VENTS(HVAC). WELL KNOW ISSUES THAT SEEMS TO HAVE NO RESOLVE ACCORDING TO FORD. ALTHOUGH THEY DID ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN BACK IN 2014 . FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IT DOESN'T SEEM TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. MANY PEOPLE STILL HAVE FUMES AFTER THE "FIX".@$700-$850 . WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE COST. A CLASSS ACTION LAW SUIT HAS BEEN FILED AND AWAITING FOR SETTLEMENT DECISIONS. CARBON MONOXIDE IS NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO EXPOSE MY FAMILY TO ON A DAILY BASIS . FORD NEEDS TO FIND A FIX OR A RECALL NEED TO HAPPEN . MY DEALER IS COOPERATING AND WILL BE ASSESSING THE ISSUE . BUT FROM WHAT I READ ONLY ONE PERSON HAS HAD A POSITIVE OUTCOME FROM FORD. I HOPE THIS COMPLAINT WILL HELP PUSH FORD TO MAKE A BETTER EFFORT TO RESOLVE THIS MAJOR ISSUE.
BLINKER DESIGN IS FLAWED. WHEN PRESSED LIGHTLY, THE BLINKER "BLINKS" 3 TIMES AND TURNS OFF. THIS IS OK, BUT WHEN YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY TURN YOUR BLINKER ON, YOU HAVE TO APPLY MUCH MORE PRESSURE THAN USUAL. AS A RESULT, I OFTEN FLASH THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND HAS MADE MOTORISTS ANGRY WITH ME WHEN, UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS UNINTENTIONAL. IT MAKES ME LOOK LIKE AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER AND ALL I AM TRYING TO DO IS TURN MY BLINKER ON. SINCE I KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE, I AM PURPOSELY CAREFUL AND THIS STILL OCCURS WAY TOO OFTEN. I NOW CONSIDER NOT USING MY BLINKER OR JUST USING THE ONE WITH 3 BLINKS (WHICH IS NOT SUFFICIENT) TO AVOID ACCIDENTALLY FLASHING MY HIGH BEAMS AT THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. THIS SHOULD BE REPAIRED, AS IT IS NOT FUNCTIONAL AND UNSAFE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS RELATED TO THE RACK AND PINION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

AT A SPEED OF 65 TO 70 MPH ON INDIANA HYW 31 A VERY LOUD SOUND SHOOK MY CAR--I THOUGHT I HAD HIT SOMETHING--LOOKING VIA THE REAL VIEW MIRROR I SAW THE CAR FOLLOWING ME JERK INTO THE OTHER LANE--I PUT ON MY WARNING FLASHERS AND PULLED OVER AS DID THE CAR FOLLOWING ME. THE YOUNG MAN THOUGHT I HAD THROWN SOMETHING OUT MY WINDOW WHICH BOUNCED OFF THIS WINDSHIELD--HE WAS NOT AT ALL HAPPY!!!!! WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS THE BIG BLACK WINDSHIELD MOLDING- DRIVER SIDE----APPROX. 3 X 37 IN LONG BROKE OFF FROM MY CAR FLEW BACK AND BOUNCED OFF THIS WINDSHIELD. WE COULD NOT SEE ANY DAMAGE TO HIS CAR. HE TOLD ME HE ONLY SAW THIS BIG BLACK SOMETHING ABOUT TO HIT HIM AND JERKED THE WHEEL INTO THE LEFT LANE. ON INSPECTION OF MY CAR 4 OF THE 8 HOLD POINTS WERE MISSING--IT APPEARS THE MOLDING AT THE HOOD POINTS LET LOOSE WHICH CAUSED THE REST OF THE BIG MOLDING TO TEAR LOOSE.
EXPERIENCING STRONG SULPHUR SMELL INSIDE VEHICLE. (DURING ACCELERATION AND WHEN REAR AIR IS ON). DROVE VEHICLE ALL SUMMER WITH MY CHILDREN RIDING ALONG AND I THOUGHT MY 8 YEAR OLD WAS EXPERIENCING CAR SICKNESS. WE WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER BECAUSE HE WOULD GET SICK TO THE POINT OF THROWING UP MANY TIMES. I JUST FIGURED IT WAS CAR SICKNESS BECAUSE I DIDN'T SMELL ANY FUMES (IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW, CARBON MONOOXIDE IS ODORLESS). WHEN RIDING IN OUR OTHER VEHICLES, IT NEVER HAPPENED. HE RODE 5 HOURS TO THE BEACH AND 5 HOURS HOME IN MY HUSBANDS 2013 GMC 2500 AND DIDN'T GET SICK ONCE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE WHEEL BEARING REPLACED TODAY (10/11/16). I TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS TO MAKE SURE THEY WEREN'T PLUGGED BECAUSE OF THE ODOR (THE STRONG ODOR STARTED YESTERDAY). THEY CALL ME AND TELL ME THERE IS A TSB *SERVICE BULLETIN" AND CERTAIN 2011-2015 EXPLORER HAVE EXHAUST FUMES LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE. IT ALL STARTED TO COME TOGETHER. I CALLED FORD AND BECAUSE MY 36/36,000 WARRENTY ENDED (I HAVE 45,672 MILES ON IT NOW), THERE IS NO COVERAGE. I EVEN PURCHASED THE EXTENDED FORD PLAN AND THEY SAID IT WON'T COVER IT EITHER. I HAVE TO PAY THEM $480 TO TRY TO FIX IT. I'VE READ PEOPLES EXPERIENCES AND THEIR SOLUTION TO FIX IT HASN'T WORKED FOR ANYONE. I BOUGHT A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR TODAY AND WHEN I PICK IT UP TOMORROW, I AM GOING TO PLACE IT IN THE CAR WHERE MY 8 YEAR OLD SITS AND TURN THE AIR ON. I WILL ALSO RECORD THE RESULTS ON THE DETECTOR TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD! THEY HAVEN'T EVEN MADE ANYONE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY DON'T INTEND TOO! ITS A BIG SECRET FOR THEM BECAUSE THAT IS ONE OF THEIR BEST SELLING VEHICLES. AND GOOD LUCK GETTING IT COVERED!
WHEN ACCELERATING WE GET A VERY STRONG SULFUR SMELL IN THE CABIN. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS SO STRONG THAT WE HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS.
METAL BODY CRACKING ON UPPER AREA PANEL WHERE LIFTGATE HINGES ARE. CREATING WATER DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR PART OF THE THIRD ROW. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS AND THE CRACKS ARE GETTING BIGGER.
