NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Ford Explorer. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Power steering is failing but no codes or any indication of what is failing other than tight steering and grinding noise.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving approximately 3 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the power steering assist failure message was displayed. The vehicle was towed and was diagnosed but not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V286000 (Steering) however, the Vin was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the contact was informed that the Vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel stiffened while making a turn with a screeching sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the electronic steering rack and pinion was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
The vehicle was placed in park with the engine running. No one was in the vehicle when, on it's own, it came out of park and rolled down our driveway, coming to a stop after hitting a tree. A person or cat could have easily been on the driveway and run and killed. It subsequently cost $10751.42 to repair the damage to the rear tailgate. No previous issues had been noted prior to this incident. This occurred in July 2001 and was submitted to our insurance company where we paid a$1000 deductible and caused our rates to go up. We have contacted Ford without any success.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while the vehicle was in park, it inadvertently shifted to reverse and the vehicle hit a tree. There was no failure warning lights. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic and repaired the cosmetic damages. There was no failure diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Had new tires put on my 2014 Explorer. They are showing wear on the rear ones. Now it handles very poorly on roads that are grooved. Need to have both have hands on the wheel with a good grip to keep it on the road. Feels like the rear is trying to pass the front. Going back to the Ford dealer next week. Hopefully they can repair this problem. Perhaps recall 21S31 will address this.
The headlights in my Ford Explorer 2014 are extremely dim. The road is poorly lit in front and cannot see anything on the sides. This has been a problem since I purchased the vehicle. I just missed hitting a pedestrian on the side of the road. I was in a residential area and only going 20 mph. It is extremely dangerous and a large safety concern.
Vehicle started making a grinding noise when turning and a slightly throbbing feedback through the wheel. We stopped driving immediately. According to the dealership the power steering module is failing needs a total replacement. Parts are on back order do to so many others needing same issue. 12-13 and 15-17 Explorers all had recalls do to this same part. However the 2014 models were not because of this I am out the $2700 even though Ford knows there is an issue. I am a single customer and have no power to show how bad for safety this is.
My wife was driving on the highway and lost power steering completely!! The power steering assist light came on. She almost lost control of the vehicle! She was able to manage it off the highway. We had the car towed to the dealership. They had said that the power steering gear had failed! After researching the problem, I was SHOCKED to see this issue is not an anomaly. There was a recall on this issue for 2011 - 2013, but not for 2014. Yet, the complaints and horror stories for the 2014 model still continue. I called Ford and they documented my call (#CAS32404801) and suggested that we submit a claim from the dealership to Ford after the repar. I am really dumbfounded as to why this frightening issue with the steering has not been fixed!!!!
I had recently reported a catastrophic failure of the power steering system while driving this 2014 Ford Explorer. After researching the issue with the recalls for 2011-2013 Explorer (recall 14V286000) the same component, the PSCM steering module failed with our vehicle (which was the reason for the recall on these vehicles). After the dealership replaced the rack and pinion steering system, the technician contacted me to say that the vehicle was still not working properly and that they had contacted Ford for tech support. Ford had informed the dealership that they had to re-program components which included the PSCM. The failure of this component led to the failure of our steering system. Why was the 2014 Explorer NOT included in the recall for this issue that is still a problem? Many are experiencing this same dangerous issue with the 2014!
Weather stripping on wind shield falls apart and becomes a projectile while driving.
Hello, My car currently has an open recall that needs to be remediated it has been issued since OCT 30, 2020. This is the second recall to resolve an outstanding issue with my cars rear toe link 20S62/20V675. On three separate occasions I have attempted to get this remediated with three dealerships turning away servicing my vehicle due to lack of parts. I filed a complaint with the Ford Corporate office to report what I would consider Unfair Trade Practice and consumer right violations as these dealerships seem to be able to conduct the work however are turning away the recalls either to prioritize paying jobs. This leaves myself as a consumer with a lingering risk, exponential exposure to harm when operating my vehicle. Ford company is willfully aware of the situation and have not addressed this matter. I submitted another escalation today due to being turned away for a 3rd time. Keep in mind that I have requested to be contacted when parts have been available or if the parts can be ordered and neither of these requests have been met. I am aware that we are coming off the heels of the Covid pandemic and these dealerships might be short staffed, so they are being directed to avoid recall resolution.
Passenger side tierod end broke off at rack and pinion assembly.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, the windshield trim panel detached. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE23001 (Structure). The failure mileage was approximately 185,000. The VIN was unavailable.
WHILE DRIVING POWER STEERING FAILURE.. WHEN IT FAILED IT DINGED AND A MESSAGE CAME UP BUT FAILURE WAS WHILE DRIVING. NO OTHER PREVIOUS PROBLEMS. ONLY 44750 MILES AT TIME OF FAILURE.
While driving down the road a message popped up that said: Fault Service Required, Service AdvanceTrac, and Terrain System Fault. The vehichle lost power steering unexpectedly and was very difficult to maintain on the roadway. I pulled over and shut off my vehicle and when I restarted it the power steering was back. I have seen that this is a common issue with the 2014 Ford Explorer and it seems to be the same type of power steering system as the other years that have been recalled but the 2014 has been left out. I would just like to report this as I feel it is a very big safety issue if someone is driving in a turn when this happens or are not in a spot they can pull over when it happens. Thank you for your time.
We were returning from a visit with my son in Ohio. Suddenly a notice appeared on the dashboard about steering control and it was extremely hard to turn the wheel. We tried several methods suggested to correct the problem such as disconnecting the battery and also checking the fuses but no success. Since it appeared I could drive the vehicle, we drove home but had to really work at steering. We finally arrived back at our home without further incident other than being extremely tired from turning the steering wheel. It was like driving a car which was never equipped with power steering but even harder. After returning home, I took the vehicle to the local Ford dealership. They checked the vehicle and said the steering column had to be replaced. Total cost is going to be $2384.73 plus tax.
Electrical power steering pump in failure. It's hard to steer and steering wheel gets stuck in a certain position. My wife wife was heading Into oncoming traffic, it allowed the steering to free up and be corrected right before she could have hit another vehicle head on. It is headed to our local dealership for a recall this week and we plan on having them confirm this, if we make it there. the bad part is there was no warning or dash indication light to let us know this was in failure and could have seriously hurt my wife and or kids IF they were in the vehicle.
The steering wheel suddenly became stiff while driving-and a power steering failure light came on-we had to park and be towed-and the Power steering rack and pinion/motor needs replacement. There are hundreds of people with the same problem-90,000 miles and barely driven
Transmission failed on my 2014 Ford Explorer. I was made aware that the Ford dealer has seen a lot of transmission failures. I have to have a new transmission. Is Ford going to pay for this since they are aware of this issue?
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at 55 mph, the service advanced track and power steering assist warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was parked and the vehicle loss power steering functionality. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the electronic power steering unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.
2014 Ford Explorer, steering wheel gets very hard when turning. Started four days ago, has not stopped since. Was not moving when the issue started. Ford dealership told me it is a very very very common issue with the rack and pinion on this year, and wanted to charge me $4000 to replace it. There is a recall on the power electric steering system of the 2011 through 2013 Ford Explorers, and apparently it is just as common on the 2014, so I’m wondering why it is not included in the recall. I absolutely am not paying out of pocket to get this fixed. if I die on the road, Ford is the cause..
Power steering. Experienced a loss of power steering. It required me to use extra steering effort. Was traveling on the highway was able to pull over to breakdown lane.
I was in an accident driving ro work. Driver was coming off if a local freeway and slammed into the driver side at the front portion of driver door and wheel location. My vehicle was thrown across 3 lanes of traffic and half way onto a side walk. I slammed my head so hard on the driver door glass that it broke the window. Airbags did not deploy at any time. I was not going very fast but the other driver was racing to get threw a yellow light that had already turned red at the time of impact throwing the vehicle as stated above at an undetermined speed
The car drove fine - no prior issues. Went to leave for a wedding and the dash board lit up with the following errors: Steering Assist Fault Service Required, Service AdvanceTrac, and Terrain System Fault. The vehicle was nearly impossible to steer. It took all my strength to even move the wheel slightly to be able to pull back into the driveway and off the road. I researched this online and found there are 100's of other people that have had the same issue, yet ford refuses to do anything. They have issues recalls for 2011-2013 and 2015-2017 explorers for the same issue but not 2014. We did the diagnostics and had to order a new rack and pinion however the part is not in stock and on backorder because so many people are having this issue. This should be an obvious sign to Ford that something is wrong. I am including links to other sites showing other people have had the same issue. I know others have also filed a report with you. I tried talking to ford and opened a case with them but they aren't taking any responsibility. The only thing I am thankful for is that unlike some of the others who weren't so lucky, I wasn't on a major highway or going 60+mph when the steering went out. This is a huge safety concern and it is unfortunate that it appears it will take someone losing their life before Ford decides to admit their at fault. These are just a few of the sites showing similar reports - all with 2014 Ford Explorers. https://m.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Explorer/2014/steering/power_steering_failure.shtml https://robinettelaw.com/blog/2014/08/ford-explorer-recall-for-power-steering-defect/
The right side A pillar Windshield Molding flew off at highway speed on the interstate, This molding was not showing any signs of being loose prior to it coming off. The one one the drivers (left) has been loose for some time but is still holding on
The contact owns a 2014 ford explorer. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked when the vehicle had rolled into a wall. One person was injured and sustained injuries to the face, back, legs, head, neck, and eye on the right side of the body and did seek medical treatment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure and was awaiting a response. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V692000 (POWER TRAIN) however the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 21973. Consumer stated owner of the vehicle is his wife's.
I have a 2014 Ford Explorer I bought used. On the passenger side the door panel is pulling away from the door and the armrest. After researching I found out this was covered under a recall so I contacted Ford. The lady I online chatted with told me to set up an appointment at my local Ford dealer to have it fixed that it would be covered under the recall 17N04. I contacted the dealer and they said the would order the part. A few weeks went by and I called to see if the part was in. The dealer informed me Ford would not cover the repair because my recall was over the years, but it was still under the mileage of the repair. They took photos and Ford still refuses to do anything the fix the problem. I then took it to a car repair business and they told me there was nothing they could do to fix it, that it was a design flaw on Fords part and it would need a new door skin. Is there anyway you can help me? I understand the years of the warranty are up but I also understand I have not exceeded the mileage on the recall and now I am stuck with an unrepairable door panel. Sure hoping there is something you can do.
TL* THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF HIS WIFE WHO OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO OPERATE AS NEEDED WITH THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY RETURNED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. MIKE REICHENBACH FORD LINCOLN (600 N COIT ST, FLORENCE, SC 29501) AND SANTEE FORD (2601 PAXVILLE HWY, MANNING, SC 29102) WERE CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND CEASED. THE VEHICLE UNINTENDEDLY ACCELERATED TO 90 MPH BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP. ADDITIONALLY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PUMPED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO FREE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
The systems that failed were the airbags, abs, and trac. The airbags would not have deployed in case of an accident. I took it to the Ford dealership and they had to replace the Restraint Control Module.
Steering is loose, and makes a sharp jerk to one side multiple times while driving and I am unable to keep control where the vehicle could crash.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON A GAVE A READING OF P0016, WHICH IS A CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. TOOK MY EXPLORER TO FRED BEANS FORD IN MECHANICSBURG, PA. FOR INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THE CAM PHASERS ARE COMPUTER CONTROLLED CAMSHAFT GEARS. THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SYSTEM OPERATES WHEN THE ENGINE COMPUTER (PCM) SENDS OIL PRESSURE TO ONE OR THE OTHER CHAMBER OF THE PHASER VIS CAM TIMING SOLENOIDS. WHEN A CAM PHASER GOES BAD, THE VARIABLE CONTROL TIMING (VCT) SOLENOIDS WOULD BE DESTROYED, AND THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU) WOULD NO LONGER BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE PHASERS, WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE ENGINES TIMING WOULD BE AFFECTED. THE CHECK ENGINE CODE WAS HARD STORED IN THE VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED IN A FAILED EMMISSION TEST. THE RECOMMENDED REPAIRS WILL NEED TO BE DONE IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE STATE EMMISSION TEST. THE TOTAL FOR ALL REPAIRS PLUS INSPECTION COMES TO A TOTAL OF $3,995,05 BEFORE TAX. TO ME THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE MY EXPLORER IS RUNNING GREAT. THE VEHICLE HAS ON 80,000 MILES ON IT AND OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY 6-7 THOUSAND MILES. I UNDERSTAND THE F-150 HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND QUALIFIES FOR A RECALL WITH THE SAME BASIC ENGINE. TO ME, THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NOBODY WOULD BUY A FORD KNOWING THEY HAD TO DUMP $4000 INTO AT 80,000 MILES. LIKE I SAID MY VEHICLE IS RUNNING GREAT AND TO BE HIT WITH SUCH A REPAIR PRICE TAG IS VERY CONCERNING!! DON'T WANT TO SAY THIS IS A SCAM, BUT THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. I COULD DEAL WITH THE PRICE IF MY VEHICLE WAS RUNNING BAD. APPRECIATE ANY HELP ,
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 6 MPH APPROACHING A TURN, SHE HEARD AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V692000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,695.
AT APPROXIMATELY 88,000 MILES; THE POWER STEERING FAILED ABRUPTLY - CAUSING THE VEHICLE'S STEERING TO LOCK WHILE IN A TURN. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND EXTREME FORCE APPLIED TO THE STEERING TO CORRECT, THE STEERING "POPPED" AND WAS ABLE TO BE CORRECTED. THE STEERING EXUDES A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE COLUMN. THERE IS NO ASSOCIATED WARNING OR CAUTION LIGHTS. THERE WAS NO MAINTENANCE PERFORMED IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS ON THE MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING TOPPED OFF WITH COOLANT, SHE NOTICED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DON FRANKLIN FORD LONDON (388 KY-192, LONDON, KY 40741) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE WATER PUMP NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RELATED THE ISSUE TO AN UNKNOWN RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000.
FORD SERVICE ACTION #17N04. FORD WILL NOT COMPLETE THIS SERVICE ACTION DUE TO MILEAGE. THE DRIVER DOOR PANEL IS PEELING BACK SO FAR THAT AIR CATCHES IN IT AND IS PUSHED BACK BY AIR WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE WINDOW DOWN. THE DOOR PANEL GETS PUSHED INTO THE DRIVER AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD.
At approximately 75,000 miles the steering on my 2014 Ford Explorer became sluggish and unresponsive making the vehicle difficult and unsafe to drive. This problem occurred at all speeds whether stopping at a stop sign or driving on the highway. The vehicle was brought to an authorized Ford dealer/service center at which time it was confirmed the power steering rack, electric pump and shaft assembly were defective and needed to be replaced at great expense to owner. There were never any warning lamps, signals or messages generated by the vehicle. The vehicle was serviced on 4/19/21 (and again on 5/17/21) with symptoms commencing approximately 4 days prior. Upon researching, owner determined there had previously been a Ford safety recall for same issue on similar model(s) but only for years 2010-2013.
THE STEERING WHEEL HAS BECOME HARD TO TURN. CHECKED ON RATHER WEB AND FOUND OVER 100 COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING AND IN SOME CASES FREEZES THE STEERING WHEEL KEEPING IT FROM TURNING. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE 2013 EXPLORER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM BUT IT DOES NOT COVER THE 2014 UNIT. SHOULD THE STEERING GEAR FAIL WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNSTEERABLE. THIS PROBLEM CAN BE RESEARCHED ON THE WEB BY LOOKING UNDER FORD RACK AND PINION FAILURE.
MY STEERING WHEEL IS GETTING HARD TOAKE TURNS AND THE STEERING WHEEL GET STUCKS SOMETIMES WHILE MAKING A TURN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO ALMOST LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AND DRIVE OFF THE ROAD. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AUTOHAUS UWE NEU LOCATED AT VOGELBACHER WEG 44 HOMBURG GERMANY 66424 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
MY CAR STEERS HARD TO THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT. THERE IS NO PLACE TO REFILL FLUIDS AND THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT IS NOT AN ELECTRICAL FUSE ISSUE.
DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY GOING AT LEAST 60MPH WHEN STEERING WILL LOCKED AND COULD NOT STEER LEFT OR RIGHT. I BELIEVE EVERY LIGHT FLASHED ON THAT THE VEHICLE HAS.JUST HAD TOE LINK RECALL REPLACED EXACTLY ONE WEEK AGO.
THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BECAME DETACHED DUE TO THE PLACEMENT OF THE WIRES AND WITH THE DRIVER SEAT AND PASSENGER SEAT AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTING, IT CAN CAUSE THE WIRES TO COME OUT OF PLACE. THE ENTIRE WIRING SYSTEM THAT CONNECTS TO THE SEATBELTS AND IMPACTS THE AIRBAG SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS LIT UP ON MY DASH & I WAS TOLD NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WORKED IN MY VEHICLE IF THIS LIGHT WAS ON. THE REPAIR HAD TO BE DONE AS A SAFETY MEASURE TO ENSURE THE AIR BAGS WOULD WORK AND FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON ONE DAY AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND CONTINUED TO STAY ON.
WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN AN UPDATED RECALL ON THE 2014 EXPLORER ON LOSING ITS POWER STEERING? I JUST TURNED MY VEHICLE ON TO AUTONATION FORD IN BURLESON, TX TO GET THE REAR TOW LINK RECALL REPAIRED AND THE ASSOCIATE TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT A CAUSE IN THE RECALL AND THAT IT WAS SOMETHING WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE FIXED. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING DUE TO FAILURE TO MAINTENANCE OR DUE TO LACK OF TAKING CARE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE AND THE HISTORY PROVES IT! THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2011-2013 MODEL FOR THIS BUT NOW THAT IT IS CONTINUING, IT IS NOW THE OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY? THIS EFFECTS THE DRIVING AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. YOU HAVE LOW TURNING RADIUS, IT DISENGAGES ALL THE ADVANCED DRIVING MODES, IT ALSO EFFECTS THE BLINKERS. YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE BLINKER DOWN FOR IT TO STAY ON, YOU CANT JUST CLICK THE LEVER AND IT STAYS IN THE BLINKING MODE LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TOO. IF YOU PUT CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE STEERING CAN LOCK UP AND YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO JERK IT TO GET IT OUT OUT AND BE ABLE TO TURN OR EVEN SWERVE. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THIS BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE BY ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND HISTORY OR REOCCURRENCE, THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NOT A OWNER ISSUE. IF FORD DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR US AND EVEN THE THOUGHT OF IT BEING A CHARGEABLE SERVICE, I WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO THIS TO A HIGHER DEMAND TO GET HELP AND TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION TO THE ONES THAT NEED ACT. THIS IS UNSAFE TO ME AND MY FAMILY AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS. THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT NEEDS TO BE FIXED OR OFFER SOME SORT OF SOLUTION FOR THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER AND NOTICED A SMALL GRINDING NOISE WHEN I WOULD BE PARKED OR WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IT WAS LIKE THIS FOR A FEW DAYS AND NOW WHEN DRIVING HOME IT LOCKED COMPLETELY ON ME AND I LOST STEERING ABILITY AND HAD TO FORCEFULLY PARK IT AND HAD A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT HOME. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH FORD EXPLORER AND THE STEERING RACK. I HAVE A MECHANIC COMING OUT TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AND WE NEED A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE.
MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER, WHICH ONLY HAS 83,000/MILES, STARTED EXPERIENCING TIGHTNESS IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. IN CONDUCTING RESEARCH, THESE SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, WHICH RESULTS IN A $1,700.00-TO-$2,000.00 REPAIR BILL. THE SECOND CONCERN IS THE STEERING FAILURE NOTED BY SOME COMPLAINTS, WHICH ENDANGERS EVERYONE WITHIN THE VICINITY TIME THE POINT OF FAILURE. IF IT IS SO COMMON, AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS INJURY, INCLUDING DEATH, WHY IS THIS NOT BEING RECALLED?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL GROWLING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE TURNING TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY STARTED TO TURN TO THE RIGHT, HEADING TOWARD THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A DITCH. THE CONTACT REGAINED CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AND MANUALLY STEERED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE LEFT AND CENTER OF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING BACK TO THE RESIDENCE WITH NO FURTHER FAILURES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.
Drivers side pillar trim has flown off the car at hiway speeds twice now. This is a very dangerous incident, that keeps happening and ford will not acknowledge that there is an issue.
Car has been hard when turning since last year.also, on highway while traveling at 55mph car drifting from side to side.
