THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO NHTSA ID 11019920 FILED 8/26/17. EXHAUST ODOR, SMELLS LIKE SULFUR, STRONG, PUNGENT, COMING THROUGH DAHS BOARD VENTS DURING SUSTAINED ACCELERATION AND SHORTLY AFTER. THE PROBLEM IS REPEATABLE EVERY TIME: PUT VENT SYSTEM IN RECIRCULATION MODE, SUSTAINED ACCELERATION OVER 3,000 RPM, WAIT 5 SECONDS, STRONG SULFUR ODOR COMES THROUGH DASH BOARD VENTS. I AM NOW EXPERIENCING HEADACHES ON A CONSISTENT BASIS AS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE MORE OFTEN FOR COMMUTING SINCE PURCHASING IT IN MARCH 2017 WITH 25K MILES. I AM SEEING A DOCTOR AND AM BUILDING A CASE FOR MORE SEVERE HEADACHES WITH INCREASED DRIVING IN MY EXPLORER. TODAY, I DECIDED TO LOOK UNDER THE VEHICLE - I AM INCLUDING PHOTOS OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHICH SHOWS A CRACK NEAR THE PIPE-TO-FLANGE CONNECTION. AND, NO, MY VEHICLE IS NOT A POLICE CRUISER AND IT DOES NOT HAVE AFTERMARKET PARTS INSTALLED. HOW MANY MORE COMPLAINTS DO YOU NEED? TSB 14-0130 IS FORD'S CHEAP ATTEMPT TO HIDE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND AVOID A COSTLY RECALL OF OVER 1 MILLION VEHICLES. THE EVIDENCE CONTINUES TO MOUNT, INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED, COUNTLESS EXPLORER OWNERS HAVE EXPENDED MUCH RESOURCES IN FILING COMPLAINTS, AND FORD SAYS, "THESE VEHICLES ARE SAFE. WE HAVE NOT FOUND A SAFETY ISSUE HERE". FORD HAS ISSUED TSBS WHICH DO NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THEIR LATEST INSULT TO OFFER TO "INSPECT AND REPAIR" REAR LIFT GATES AND DRAIN VALVES, AND REPROGRAM THE AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM IS LAUGHABLE, NOTHING MORE THAN A DISTRACTION TO HIDE THE REAL PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD PUT EVERY EXPLORER ON A LIFT AND INSPECT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, AND DO EXTENSIVE TESTING OF THE VACUUM SYSTEM THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM. EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING AT HIGHER SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN ENTERING INTERSTATE AND PASSING CARS AT HIGHER SPEEDS.
TRANSFER CASE IS GUMMING UP AND TEARING UP MY PTO AND CAUSING GRINDING WHILE ACCELERATING. SPOKE TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON ISSUE. WILL COST $1600 TO REPLACE PTO.
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED ON OCTOBER 19TH. PROMPTLY AFTER PURCHASE THE SMELL OF CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES WERE DETECTED IN THE VEHICLE. WITH THE USE OF A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR THE PRESENCE OF CARBON MONOXIDE WAS CONFIRMED AND THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED. WE WERE TOLD THAT FORD WAS WORKING ON A SOLUTION. DURING A FOLLOW UP CALL ON THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN PROVIDED GUIDANCE FOR A REPAIR. IN A FOLLOW UP CALL ON DECEMBER 8TH, WE WERE SCHEDULED FOR SERVICES ON DECEMBER 15TH. THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. CURRENT CARBON MONOXIDE CONTINUES TO ENTER THE CABIN WITH LEVELS RECORDED AS HIGH AS 45 PPM WHEN MAX AC IS IN USE.
MY 2014 EXPLORER HAS BAD FUME SMELLS IN THE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS VEHICLES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ONCE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BUT IT STILL DOES IT. I HAVE ALSO HAD A FUME SMELL IN MY NOSE THAT IS THERE WHEN I AM NOT IN THE CAR. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS AND AM SCHEDULED FOR AN MRI BUT I HAVE RECENTLY REALIZED THE CAR CABIN SMELLS THE SAME AS THE SMELL IN MY NOSE.
THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A FEW YEARS AND GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. AT FIRST WE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE CAR WAS PUT IN PARK THERE WAS AN ERROR ON THE DASHBOARD THAT READ "TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK" BUT IT WAS!! AFTER NUMEROUS TIMES OF STARTING AND STOPPING CAR AND PUTTING INTO PARK, THE MESSAGE WOULD GO AWAY. AND IT WOULD SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. WE KNOW THAT BECAUSE THE SEAT RETURNS BACK AND THE STEERING COLUMN ALSO RETURNS. LATELY, WE CAN'T GET THAT TO WORK. WHEN WE STOP THE CAR AND TURN IT OFF, WE GET THE ERROR MESSAGE AND IT WILL NOT TURN OFF, NOT MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE TRY. CONSEQUENTLY, IT RUNS THE BATTERY DOWN AND WE CAN NOT START THE CAR THE NEXT TIME. WE CHECKED WITH OUR FORD DEALERSHIP EARLY ON WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED AND THEY SAID THEY HAD HEARD ABOUT IT BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THEY ALSO ADVISE WE COULD PAY OVER $1,000.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. NOW IT IS HAPPENING EACH TIME - AFTER WE JUMP THE CAR TO START. IT IS CURRENTLY PARKED IN THE GARAGE. WE FEEL THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. WE HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS A 2013 EXPLORER AND HE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. WE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THE OUTCOME OF THIS INVESTIGATION. WE LOVE OUR EXPLORER BUT IT IS DOING US ANY GOOD SITTING IN OUR GARAGE. IN FACT WE HAVE HAD A FORD PRODUCT AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER - IN 1969 I BOUGHT A TORINO AND HAVE HAD A FORD VEHICLE EVER SINCE. THANKS FOR LOOKING AT THIS.
Problem with sunroof leaking. had car 11 years, at dealership 5 times water coming in from headliner soaking all electrical...radio, AC/heater, sunroof controls. Currently, sunroof is open and will not close. Repair 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and today 5-9-25
EXHAUST ODOR SMELL IN VEHICLE IS WORSE UNDER HEAVY EXCELLERATION HAPPENS EVERY TIME
WHEN EVER I EXHILARATE I CAN SMELL EMISSIONS IN MY CABIN OF MY TRUCK TO THE POINT THAT I HAVE TO OPEN THE WINDOWS OR ILL GET DIZZY AND HEADACHES. AT LOW SPEEDS AND HIGH SPEEDS AS WELL.
MY CAR HAS 64000 MILES ON IT AND WAS PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2014. THE TRANSFER CASE HAS FAILED AND CAUSED MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FLUID TO LEAK FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FLUID COULD BE SEEN ON MY DRIVEWAY AND MY CARPORT FLOOR, AND IT WAS AN $1850 FIX AT THE MECHANIC. THERE WAS, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, A RECALL FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FORD EXPLORERS, AND THEY SAID THE TRANSFER CASE WAS CRACKED, ALONG WITH THE VALVE. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS AN ODOR OF PROPANE OR SIMILAR COMING FROM THE EXHAUST VENTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT'S WORSE WHEN IT'S ON AIR CONDITIONING, TO THE POINT WHERE I ACTUALLY HAVE TO PUT THE WINDOWS DOWN.
FORD EXPLORER EXHAUST-LEAK. MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER FIRST EXHIBITED A STRONG EXHAUST LEAK SMELLS IN THE CABIN ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO WITH APPROXIMATELY 18-20,000 MILES. THE SMELL WAS MOST NOTICEABLE AFTER COMING TO A STOP WITH THE CAR AT FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. AROUND TOWN IT NEVER SEEMS TO BE PRESENT. I TOOK IT TO LOVELAND FORD AND THEY INSTALLED A "KIT" WHICH SEEMED TO STOP THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER IT HAS RECENTLY COME BACK STRONGER THAN EVER. YESTERDAY, I DROVE FROM DENVER UP INTO THE ROCKIES AND THE PROBLEM WAS PARTICULARLY BAD ON THE RETURN TRIP IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC TO THE POINT I WAS FEELING SICK BY THE TIME I GOT HOME. I HAVE HAD THIS BEFORE BUT THE CIRCUMSTANCES MADE THIS PARTICULARLY UNPLEASANT. SO THE CIRCUMSTANCE WHEN IT MOST OFTEN EXHIBITS THE STRONG "ROTTEN EGG" SMELL MIXED WITH EXHAUST IS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT FULL TEMPERATURE AND COMES TO A STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE SURGED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PLACE THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SAFELY STOP THE VEHICLE. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS-13346113-C5W0T8. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
MY FORD EXPLORER HAS A CONSTANT EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN. THE DEALERSHIP COMPLETED A RECALL WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND NOW THE DEALER IS TELLING ME THEY DO NOT KNOW OF ANY EXHAUST IN THE CABIN ISSUES. STRANGE NOW THE DEALERSHIP KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT A PROBLEM THEY TRIED TO FIX. THE FRONT SUSPENSION HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES NOW. ABOUT EVERY 20K MILES THE FRONT SUSPENSION START TO FAIL AND MAKES LOUD CLUNKING NOISES AND WE LOOSE ALIGNMENT IN THE FRONT END. THIS LAST TIME THE TOW IN THE FRONT TIRES CHANGED AND CAUSED FOR UNUSUAL STEERING ON THE FREEWAY. THE TURBO'S ON THE 3.5 ECOBOOST HAVE A KNOWN OIL LEAK ISSUE THAT CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. FORD REFUSES TO COVER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS EVEN IF YOU HAVE THEIR IN HOUSE EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE BRAKES STARTED TO SQUEAK AND THEN LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, BUT NO CRASH OCCURRED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FRANK FLETCHER FORD LINCOLN (3015 TURKEY CREEK RD, JOPLIN MO 64801, PHONE NUMBER: (417) 623-5660) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL ARM DETACHED DUE TO THE CONTACT HITTING SOMETHING WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
UNDER ACCELERATION I GET AN EXHAUST SMELL IN THE CABIN. IT HAPPENS WHEN PASSING, GETTING UP TO SPEED FROM A DEAD STOP. IT DOES IT NO MATTER IF THE ENGINE IS COLD,WARM OR HOT . THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE EXHAUST,ADDED 6 SENSORS FOR THE A/C RESUSCITATION & SEALED UP THE BODY AT THE REAR END. THE DEALER HAS TALKED TO FORDS TECHS & I STILL HAVE THE SMELL. I HAVE PULMONARY FIBROSIS & MY LUNGS CAN'T BE EXPOSED TO THIS. PLEASE HELP.
HAS A STRONG EXHAUST SMELL DURING ACCELERATION. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM A FORD DEALER. IT IS A WEEKEND AS I WRITE THIS AND I WILL NOTIFY THE DEALER AS WELL.
I HAVE A 2014 FORD EXPLORER WITH 89K MILES. I RECENTLY BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR AN THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL COMES AT HIGHER SPEEDS (ABOVE 50 MPH) AND WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A FULL STOP. THE VEHICLE MUST BE AT FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE BEFORE YOU CAN SMELL THE EXHAUST FUMES. CURRENTLY THE SOLUTION I RECEIVED FROM THE DEALER IS TO REPLACE THE MUFFLER AND THE DUAL AIR EXTRACTOR.
WHEN I ACCELERATE UP HILL OR TO PASS ANYONE THE EXHAUST SMELL COMES THROUGH MY AIR CONDITIONER. IT SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS. WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS JUST BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NEW AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. BUT IT MAKES ME SICK AND DIZZY SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING.
THE "DOOR AJAR" LIGHT WILL STAY ON WHETHER I AM STATIONARY OR DRIVING. I HAVE HAD TO OPEN AND SHUT THE DOOR 5 TO 7 TIMES SOMETIMES TO GET IT TO SHUT OFF. NO MATTER HOW SOFT OR HARD I SHUT THE DOOR IT WON'T SHUT OFF. IF I DON'T SHUT IT OFF THE INTERIOR LIGHT WILL STAY ON.
CAR FILLS WITH FUMES AND STRONG "SULFUR" ORDER WHEN EXCELLING ON ON UPGRADE CLIMB.
VEHICLE HAS 40K MILES ON IT. STRANGE VIBRATION COMING FROM PASSENGER SIDE. ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE WINDOW MOLDING/TRIM FROM THE WINDSHIELD FILES OFF! CAUSING MOTOR VEHICLES BEHIND US TO SWERVE! GOT OUT AND CHECKED, SURE ENOUGH THE DRIVERS SIDE MOLDING IS LOOSE TO. THIS COULD BE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. HAD IT REPAIRED, GUY AT THE DEALER TOLD US IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. WAS DOING APPROX 75 MPH ON I 75. IT WAS VERY SCARY
FAULTY DOOR AJAR ASSEMBLY. DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. ALSO LOSES CONNECTION WHILE CAR IS OFF AND THE DOOR IS CLOSED, TRIGGERS THE ALARM TO GO OFF. APPARENTLY THIS IS HAPPENING ON SEVERAL MODELS AND YEARS.
I HAVE EXPERIENCE EXHAUST COMING INTO THE CABIN OF BOTH FORD EXPLORERS I'VE OWNED( 2012 AND 2014). THE EXHAUST ENTERS THE CABIN SECTION THROUGH THE AIR CONDITION VENTS. WHEN PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND OR WHEN THE PASSING GEAR IS ENGAGED AND RETURNING TO NORMAL SPEED THE EXHAUST ENTERS THE CABIN. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP BACK ON 2012 AND NOTHING WAS SAID OR DONE. WHEN NORMAL DRIVING OCCURS I DON'T EXPERIENCE THE LEAK. WHEN I EXPERIENCE THE EXHAUST LEAK I LET ALL WINDOWS DOWN TO AIR OUT THE CABIN.
WHEN I USE MY AIR COND OR VENTS I GET A SMELL COMING INTO THE SUV. IF I PLACE THE RECIRCULATE ON, I DO NOT GET THE SMELL. I HAVE CHANGED THE INSIDE FILTER AND IT HAS NOT HELPED.
PISTON ROD BROKE AND VEHICLE COMES TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND LOSES POWER. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY.
I HAVE OWNED A 2014 FORD EXPLORER FOR A YEAR NOW. WHEN I PURCHASED IT, IT HAD 40,000 MILES ON IT SO, OUT OF THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY PERIOD. NOW, EVERY TIME I GET ON THE INTERSTATE OR TRY TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST THAT ENTERS THE CABIN OF THE SUV WHICH RESULTS IN ME GETTING A HEADACHE AND MY SON COMPLAINING OF HIS NOSE BURNING. I SCHEDULED AND TOOK THE CAR IN THE MULLINAX FORD HERE IN MOBILE, AL WHERE THEY CHARGED ME 99.00 TO RUN TEST ON THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF CARBON MONOXIDE WAS ENTERING THE CABIN AND THE TEST CAME BACK POSITIVE. NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $553.00, WHICH THEY CALL A DISCOUNT, TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY CREATED A CASE AND SENT IT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. THIS WAS ONLY TO GET A DECISION FROM THE MANAGER THAT I STILL HAD TO PAY $553.00. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR IT. THIS VEHICLE IS POISONING MY FAMILY (3 KIDS) AND THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE ONLY REPAIRING POLICE CARS AS OF NOW.
VEHICLE UNDER HARD ACCELERATION AND THE AIR IS ON RECIRCULATE, THE CABIN FILLS UP WITH EXHAUST.
EXHAUST ODOR ENTERS THE CABIN WHEN UNDER HIGH ACCELERATION WHEN MERGING ONTO A FREEWAY OR UNDER SUSTAINED, HIGH RPM (ABOVE APPROXIMATELY 3,000 RPM) WHEN TRAVELING IN MOUNTAINOUS FREEWAYS WITH SUSTAINED, UPHILL GRADE. I HAVE NOTICED THIS OCCURRENCE MORE THAN SIX TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE 5 MONTHS AGO (AT THE END OF MARCH 2017 WITH 25,000 MILES). THE ODOR SMELLS LIKE SULFUR AND FILLS THE CABIN TO THE EXTENT THAT PERSONS SITTING IN THE REAR SEATS CAN SMELL THE ODOR. THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS USUALLY ON AND IN RECIRCULATION MODE. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE HAS 30,000 MILES (AUGUST 26, 2017), HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION (EXCEPT FOR THE EXHAUST ODOR!) AND HAS NO MECHANICAL MODIFICATIONS.
BEGAN HEARING WHIRRING AND SCREECHING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. WAS ALSO DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT TIMES. FORD DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A STEERING GEAR FAILURE. VEHICLE HAD 20 THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND WAS ABOUT 5 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD. FORD REFUSED TO COVER THE REPAIR AND CHARGED 1570.00 TO FIX.
THERE HAVE BEEN REGULAR INSTANCES WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE OF UNEXPLAINABLE DROWSINESS, HEADACHES, CONFUSION, AND IMPAIRMENT. WHILE LEARNING OF THE LATEST NEWS OF POSSIBLE DANGEROUS FUMES BEING ALLEGED IN THE PASSENGER CABIN, I WANTED TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT IN MY PERSONAL VEHICLE. I HAVE BECOME SERIOUSLY MORE CONCERNED AS I AM NOW TRAVELING WITH AN INFANT IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME, AND RECOGNIZING THAT I WAS SUBJECT TO THESE CONDITIONS THROUGHOUT A FULL PREGNANCY. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE PRIMARY DRIVER SINCE OWNING IT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY MODIFICATIONS DONE TO THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD ALL SERVICE WORK COMPLETED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. ALTHOUGH I DON'T TRAVEL OFTEN BY CAR, THERE HAVE BEEN TRIPS THAT I HAVE TAKEN THAT WERE APPROXIMATELY 300 MILES IN LENGTH THAT WOULD REQUIRE A STOP FOR REST AND / OR SLEEP. THIS IS NOT A USUAL CHARACTERISTIC OF MY DRIVING STYLE. THERE IS NO NOTICEABLE ODOR IN THE VEHICLE'S PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THERE ARE NO NOTICEABLE DRIVING CONDITIONS THAT MAKE THIS ISSUE BETTER OR WORSE.
I AM WRITING TO YOU IN REGARDS TO PHYSICAL ILLNESS THAT I HAVE SUFFERED AS WELL AS MY PASSENGERS FROM MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER POLICE INTERCEPTOR PACKAGE. STARTING BACK WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 59,000 MILES, I HAVE EXPERIENCED AN EXHAUST ODOR IN THE CABIN SHORTLY AFTER ACCELERATING OVER 3,000RPMS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TWICE, WITH THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMING THE SMELL. AFTER THIS WORK WAS PERFORMED, I STILL TO THIS DAY AM SUFFERING FROM EXHAUST FUMES AND PHYSICAL ILLNESS DIRECTLY RELATED TO MY FORD EXPLORER. ALL REPAIR ORDERS FROM INVOLVED FORD DEALERSHIPS ARE IN MY POSSESSION CONFIRMING EXHAUST FUMES ARE STILL ENTERING THE CABIN. FROM THE TIME I TOOK OWNERSHIP IN OCTOBER 2016, I HAVE EXPERIENCED PHYSICAL ILLNESS WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR AT A TIME. I GET EXTREMELY LIGHTHEADED AND NAUSEATED, WHICH HAS CAUSED ME TO FREQUENTLY STOP THE VEHICLE AND VOMIT. MY PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED SIMILAR SYMPTOMS WHEN RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, I STOP AT A SAFE LOCATION AND REMOVE MYSELF TO FRESH AIR, AND THE SYMPTOMS SOON PASS AND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. RECENTLY, I HAVE TRAVELED FROM MASSACHUSETTS TO VERMONT IN MY EXPLORER. THE MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING TRIP IT WAS ME AS WELL AS MY GIRLFRIEND. AFTER AROUND AN HOUR OF DRIVING AT 60MPH, MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE FEELING VERY DIZZY AND BECAME NAUSEATED, SO I OPTED TO STOP AND RELAX AT A REST STOP FOR FRESH AIR PRIOR TO CONTINUING MY TRIP TO VERMONT. I HAVE INSTALLED A CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR IN MY VEHICLE, WHICH HAS ACTIVATED MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WHILE DRIVING. AT THIS TIME I AM NEGOTIATING WITH FORD'S OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL TO PERFORM A BUYBACK OF MY EXPLORER AND REPLACE IT WITH A DIFFERENT VEHICLE.
CARBON MONOXIDE WAS DETECTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AS WELL AS FUMES/ EXHAUST ODOR.
WHEN ACCELLERATING CABIN SMELLS THE EXHAUST. ALSO WHEN FAN IS ON AND THE VENT IS OPEN RECENTLY STARTED TO SMELL PROPANE GAS INSIDE THE CAR. MAKING US, MY WIFE, KIDS 13 AND 17 YEARS OLD TO FEEL NAUSEOUS, DIZZINESS AND HEADACHE. FEELING LIKE THROWING UP. IT STARTED A FEW DAYS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE SUV ON MID AUGUST 2017. WE ALSO HAD THE SAME TRUCK WE BOUGHT IN 2014 EXPLORER BASE MODEL , BUT IT ONLY HAS THE EXHAUST FUME SMELL NOT AS BAD AS THE NEW ONE WE HAVE 2014 EXPLORER XLT PROPANE SMELL IS VERY BAD..
THE WINDOW TRIM ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD BECAME LOOSE AND THEN FLEW OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR HAS 3500 MILES. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE I HAVE LEARNED BY READING THESE FORUMS.
THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ESPECIALLY ON FULL ACCELERATION. SEEMS TO BE UNDER ANY CONDITION OF THE CABIN AS FAR AS WINDOW OPEN PARTIALLY, CLOSED WINDOWS WITH VENT ON, AC ON WITH OR WITHOUT THE RECIRCULATION BEING USED. MOSTLY ANNOYING AND IT DOES SEEM TO DISSIPATE AFTER A FEW MINUTES, WILL OCCUR FROM STARTING AT FULL STOP OR USE SUCH AS FULL THROTTLE FOR PASSING AT ANY SPEED. DO NOT SEEM TO NOTICE A SMELL WHEN RUNNING IN TOWN OR ON FREEWAY. RARELY SIT WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND HAVE NOT NOTICED THE EXHAUST SMELL THUS FAR.

THE CONTACT CALLED FORD HIXSON MAZDA LOCATED ON 2506 MACARTHUR DR, ALEXANDRIA, LA 71301 AND SPOKE WITH GREG WHO SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR 8/3/17. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V245000(SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENTLY I GOT TWO WARNINGS DISPLAYED ON MY PANEL THAT SAID "STEERING FAULT / SERVICE NOW" "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC." ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER THE STEERING BEGAN TO FEEL A LITTLE HARDER TO MOVE, BUT I MADE IT HOME O.K. THE NEXT DAY, THOUGH, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MANUEVER.
WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY OR GOING UP HILL, WHICH CAUSES A HIGHER RPM, A HORRIBLE SMELL COMES IN THE CAR. IT SMELLS LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN ROTTEN EGGS AND BURNT HAIR. AFTER READING OTHER'S REPORTS, IT COULD BE THE EXHAUST BEING SUCKED INTO THE CAR. IT SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN THE REAR AIR IS ON. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE DATE ENTERED BELOW IS THE MOST RECENT OCCURENCE. I ALWAYS ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN TO AIR OUT THE EXHAUST/SMELL.
WHEN ACCELERATING, A STRONG ODOR COMES FROM THE AIR VENTS. THE ODOR LINGERS AND SMELLS VERY STRONG, I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE EXHAUST FUMES, AS IT ONLY HAPPENS DURING ACCELERATION.
STEERING WENT OUT CANT TURN WHEEL NO POWER STEERING
I STARTED TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR WORK AND THE EXAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN AREA HAS STARTED TO MAKE ME SICK.
EXHAUST LEAK INTO VEHICLE
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the back over prevention camera failed to operate as needed while the vehicle was shifted into reverse, and the image displayed was distorted. The contact stated that over time the failure worsened, and the screen went blank. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was kept for three days for the repair. The contact went back to retrieve the vehicle and was informed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable and that the vehicle could not be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
THERE IS AN EXHAUST SMELL OF ROTTEN EGGS, BURNT RUBBER, AND SULFUR THAT PROTRUDES FROM THE AIR VENTS INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE UPON ACCELERATION AND A SMALLER AMOUNT OF EXHAUST PROTRUSION UPON IDLE. BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING ARE AFFECTED. THE EXHAUST SMELL HAS CAUSED SOME PASSENGER NAUSEA.
ON JULY 20, 2017, WHILE PULLING THE VEHICLE OUT OF MY GARAGE, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. A WARNING LIGHT ABOUT TRACTION CONTROL CAME ON. THINKING THE TRACTION CONTROL HAD INADVERTENTLY BEEN PRESSED, I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. THE VEHICLE BEGAN FUNCTIONING NORMALLY AT THAT POINT. ON SUNDAY, JULY 30, 2017, AS MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, WITH ME AND 3 OF OUR CHILDREN AS PASSENGERS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY ABOUT TRACTION CONTROL BEING TURNED OFF AND POWER STEERING ASSIST NEEDING SERVICE. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MOVE. TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN ON ONCE AGAIN SEEMED TO RESET THE POWER STEERING AGAIN. I CALLED AUTOFAIR FORD OF HAVERHILL, MA THE NEXT DAY AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN THAT AFTERNOON. ON THE WAY TO AUTOFAIR FORD, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN. AUTOFAIR DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A FAILED STEERING RACK AND REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AND PROGRAM SYSTEM FOR A TOTAL OF $1721.90. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE, I LEARNED THAT THE 2011, 2012, AND 2013 FORD EXPLORERS HAD THE SAME OR VERY SIMILAR ISSUE AND THERE WAS A RECALL. IN ADDITION, I FOUND MESSAGE THREADS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES OF 2014 FORD EXPLORERS HAVING THE SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUES AS WE DID. LUCKILY, WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED ON MY VEHICLE, WE WERE ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR; HOWEVER, IF SUDDEN SHARP STEERING WOULD HAVE BEEN NEEDED, THERE LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE. IN ADDITION, A FAILURE SUCH AS THIS ONE SHOULD NOT OCCUR ON A VEHICLE THAT IS BARELY 3 YEARS OLD WITH ABOUT 48,450 MILES ON IT. WE HAVE HAD ALL REGULAR RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCES PERFORMED ON THIS VEHICLE AT AUTOFAIR FORD, FORMALLY REGAN FORD, FROM THE TIME OF PURCHASE AS A NEW VEHICLE.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING THE EXHAUST CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE THE CABIN. THIS HAPPENS TO A NOTICEABLE LEVEL WHEN THE VEHICLE IS EXCELERATED AT A FASTER PACE BY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL QUICKLY TO EXCELERATE QUICKLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND CAN BE REPRODUCED BY FAST EXCELERATION. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR LEFT TIRE BLEW OUT. THE PASSENGER WAS INJURED.*JS
REPORTED EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS FEBRUARY 2017. WENT TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND HAD 'REPAIRS' MADE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME AT A COST OF NEARLY $600. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND IT APPEARS TO BE A SIMILAR ISSUE TO THAT BEING REPORTED IN POLICE EQUIPED VEHICLES..
NAUSEA, HEADACHE. PROBLEMS MAY BE RELATED TO CARBON MONOXIDE ISSUE'S WITH VEHICLE'S ON-GOING INVESTIGATION.
