I OWN A FORD F150 TRUCK BOPOUGHT NEW IN MARCH OF 1997. I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A LOW TIRE AND THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THAT THE WHEEL WAS LEAKING AIR AND SHOWED ME THE PROBLEM. THE AREA AROUND THE VALVE STEM WAS VERY RUSTY AND WAS LEAKING AIR THROUGH THE STEEL MATERIAL OF THE WHEEL. I'VE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ANY OF THE MANY VEHICLES OWNED BY ME IN THE PAST. A QUESTION TO THE LOCAL DEALER INDICATED NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS FROM FORD REGARDING THIS MATTER. I CONSIDER THIS TO SOME DEGREE A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE LOW TIRE PRESSURE CONTRIBUTES TO THE POSSIBILITY OF ACCIDENTS. I HAVE THREE OTHER WHEELS THAT MAY WELL BE AFFECTED. I HAVE YET TO CONTACT THE COMPANY DUE TO THE NATURE OF BUSINESS DURING THE HOLIDAYS. I WILL APPRECIATE YOUR CONSIDERATION OF THIS PROBLEM AND PERHAPS INVESTIGATING WHETHER IT IS WIDESPREAD OF NOT. CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HEAD GASKETS. ALSO STATED THAT WENT OUT TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE AND WHITE SMOKE CAME OFF THE VEHICLE. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HA A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. TS
I HAD PURCHASED THIS TRUCK ON DEC 19, 2002. THE NEXT DAY I DROVE IT TO TAMPA FL. WHILE ON THE WAY THERE AND WHILE IN TAMPA I HAD A FEW BRAKE FAILURES. WHEN I WAS COMING TO A STOP THE PEDAL SEEMED TO GET SOFT, THEN THEY WOULD GET REALLY HARD AND START PULSATING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. I WOULD HAVE TO LET OFF THE BRAKES, AND TRY AGAIN. I WAS LUCKY THAT IT WAS EARLY IN THE MORNING AND MOST OF THE TIME I WAS NOT IN A LOT OF TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ON DEC 29,02. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT, THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. IN JANUARY IT MUST HAVE HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT A 12 TIMES, ALL WITH THE SAME EFFECTS. IN FEB 03, I TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM WAS BACK AGAIN NOW HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, NOW MARCH AND THE PROBLEM HAS HAPPEN TO ME JUST ABOUT EVERY WEEK AT LEAST 4 TO 5 TIMES A WEEK. ON THE MORNING OF MAR 28 03, I WAS TAKING MY CHILD TO DAY CARE WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT. I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK, I LET OFF THE BRAKES ABOUT 2 MORE TIMES, THEN I FINALLY JUST APPLIED THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD AND GOT IT TO STOP A FEW INCHES FROM THE CAR THAT WAS STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AT THAT POINT I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID BRING IT IN. I DROPPED IT OFF THE SAME DAY. WHEN I CALLED THEM THE FOLLOWING WEEK ON APRIL 1 2003. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, BUT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER AND A CHECK VALVE. THEY TOLD ME THAT WITH ALL THE INFORMATION THAT I HAD GIVEN THEM AND FROM WHAT OTHER MECHANICS SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE THE THREE COMPONENTS THEY REPLACED. THAT NIGHT MY TRUCK WAS READY. I WAS VERY CONFIDENT THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM BUT I WAS WRONG ON APR 06 03. WHILE OUT AND ABOUT AND COMING HOME I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE TRUCK THEN SEEM TO SLOW DOWN, THEN THE BRAKES GOT HARD AGAIN AND STARTED PULSATING AT THE BOTTOM. *JB

POWER STEERING GEAR BOLTS BROKE. THERE WAS A POP NOISE AND CONSUMER COULD TURN STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION BUT FRONT WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN. DEALER REPLACED BROKEN BOLTS FROM GEAR. REPAIRED POWER STEERING LEAK AT HOSE FROM RESERVOIR TO PUMP. *TT

CONSUMER STATES TIE RODS BROKE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING WHEEL TO MOVE ERRATICALLY. CONSUMER NOT ABLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED IN 1 YEAR. THE FIRST TIME OCCURRED AT 40K MILES. MR
1- LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD SIDE GASKETS FAILED, ALLOWING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO ENGINE OIL AND CYLINDERS, CAUSING ENGINE HYDROLOCK. ISSUE IS ADDRESSED BY FORD WITH TSB ARTICLE NO. 99-20-7. 2- ENGINE FRONT COVER GASKET FAILED IN LINE WITH RECALL 99B29. 1. THE FRONT ENGINE COVER GASKET ON MY 1997 FORD F-150 WAS DEFECTIVE. THERE WAS A RECALL AT ONE TIME ON THIS PROBLEM BUT WAS CHECKED BY A FORD DEALER AND NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE WRONG. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED FORD WOULD NOT REPLACE IT FOR FREE AND SO I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AT MY COST OF $600.00. 2. AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS. MY WIFE HAD A WRECK IN THE SAME VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY OR DID THE SEAT BELTS LOCK UP LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. I TRIED TO GET FORD TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THAT WOULD HAPPEN AND THEY SAID THE INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD HAVE TO HANDLE IT. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL NOT SOLVED. ALSO THE ABS DID NOT WORK. *NLM
NHTSA# 8719-98-V-095-161-000 REAR LEAF SPRING, THE CENTER LEAF OF THE SPPRING CAN FRACTURE AT THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE SPRING SEAT. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE HAS A NOISE AND THE SPRING IS FALLING APART. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. TS

A TAPPING NOISE HAS OCCURED IN THE ENGINE. A FORD MECHANIC STATED THAT IT WAS A SPUN ROD BEARING. FORD CLAIMS THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP ME FOR A MALFUCNTION CAUSED BY A BAD FRONT COVER GASKET LEAK. THIS CAUSED THE COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE OIL, MIXING WATER WTIH OIL. I KNOW I'M NOT THE FIRST TO REPORT THIS. I WAS INFORMED BY OTHER OWNERS TO FILE A COMPLAINT AS WELL. DT
WHILE DRIVING THE PICKUP TRUCK THE BRAKES FAILED TOTALLY. INSPECTION FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE ROTTED AT REAR AXLE FLEX HOSE CONNECTION. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN BACKED INTO FRESH OR SALT WATER (AS IN LAUNCHING A BOAT). THE TRUCK HAS SPENT ALL IT'S YEARS IN NEW ENGLAND AND SALT IS USED ON THE ROADS IN WINTER. I DO NOT BELIEVE A TRUCK. JUST UNDER 5 YEARS OLD SHOULD HAVE THE BRAKE LINES RUST OUT AND CAUSE A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING. EITHER THE BRAKE LINES ARE OF THE WRONG MATERIAL OR WRONGLY POSITIONED. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF I HAD BEEN AT HIGHER SPEED AND IN TRAFFIC. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN EMPLOYED IN NORMAL PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION ONLY. DT

THE CONSUMER IS CONCERN AT THIS TIME HE RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE COIL SPRING. THE RECALL NUMBER #98S18 AND HE HAD THE REPAIR DONE ON OCT 5TH 1998. AT THIS TIME THE PROBLEM IS STILL EXIST. TS

HAD JUST PULLED AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT THE CENTER OF F150 WITH LEFT FRONT FENDER. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES AND TREATED IN EMERGENCY ROOM. TS

WHILE TRAVELING 30-35 MPH A DEER RAN IN FRONT OF TRUCK WHICH THE DRIVER DID HIT. THE TRUCK SPUN AROUND AND HIT THE ENBANKMENT. AFTERWARDS, THE TRUCK WENT AIR BORNE AND THE IMPACT ONCE HITTING THE GROUND DUG 7" INCHES INTO THE GROUND. NEITHER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UNDER NONE OF THESE CONDITIONS. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS TS

HEAD ON THE VEHICLE THAT MEETS ENGINE HAS CRACKED, AND IS LEAKING WATER. IN DOING SO ENGINE IS ABLE TO OVERHEAT. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK

FIRESTONE HAD ME TAKE IT TO A TIRE STORE(D&D TIRE) AND HAD ALL 5 TIRES INSPECTED AND THE 4 ON THE GROUND HAD TREAD SEPARATION IN THE OUTER BELTS OF THE TIRES, AND ONE OF THE TIRE'S HAS ONLY APPROX. 15000 MILES ON IT , I REPLACED IT BECAUSE OF ROAD HAZARD CUT IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE OEM,I FEEL THAT THE TIRE PROBLEM STARTED AT ABOUT 24000TO 26000 MILE ON THE TRUCK BECAUSE IT STARTED PULLING TO THE LEFT AT THAT TIME I HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECK AND IT SHOWED GOOD, NEVER THINKING IT WAS THE TIRE'S BECAUSE THE TREAD LOOKED GOOD ON ALL OF THEM, I WISH NOW I WOULD HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED BY A TRAINED EXPERT. *AK
I PURCHASED A 1997 FORD F-150 JUNE 11, 2001 FROM TWO RIVERS CHEVEROLET ON 2/04/02 A HOLE WAS PATCHED IN THE RADIATOR OF THE VEHICLE. ON 9/02/02 THE RADIATOR HAD ANOTHER HOLE IN IT AND THIS TIME HAD TO BE REPLACED. ON 9/27/02 THE HEATER CORE BEGAN LEAKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AT THAT TIME I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICAL BACK TO THE RADIATOR SPECIALIST AND HE SUGGUESTED THAT THE VEHICAL MIGHT HAVE ELECTRYOLISIS, SAID TAKE THE VEHICALE TO THE FORD . I DID THEY REPLACED THE HEATER CORE AND I HAD SUGGESTED TO THE SERVICE TECHNIAN THAT IT COULD HAVE ELECTROYLISIS. THE SERVICE TECH. SAID THAT, THAT WAS NOT VERY POSSIBLE. ON 12/03/02 I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME FORD GARAGE FOR LEAKING OF ANTIFREEZE, THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. ON 3/10/03 I WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY AND THE HEATER CORE WENT AGAIN I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD GARAGE IN THE AREA THAT I WAS IN AND THEY REPLACE THE HEATER CORE AGAIN. ON 5/21/03 THE HEATER CORE WENT AGAIN AT THIS TIME I WAS IN A DIFFERENT PART OF THE COUNTRY AND AT EVERY FORD GARAGE I WENT TO I TOLD THE STORY TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR. THE HEATER CORE WAS REPLACED. ON 10/29/03 THE HEATER CORE AGAIN FAILED AND I TOOK IT BACK THE SAME FORD GARAGE THAT I LAST HAD IT AT. AGAIN THEY REPLACED THE HEATER CORE AND THIS TIME TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ELECTRYOLISIS IN THE VEHICALE. THEY REPLACE HEATER CORE. ON7/12/04 THE HEATER CORE WENT AGAIN I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME FORD GARAGE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD REPLACE THE HEATER CORE AND THIS TIME THE RADIATOR HAD A HOLE IN IT AGAIN. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD PROABLY NOT GO AWAY AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THAT THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I TOOK IT TO A RADIATOR SPECIALIST AND THEY TOLD ME IF THEY HAD HAD THE VEHICALE WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT. BUT NOW ITS BEEN GOING ON TOOK LONG AND THERE WAS A SLIM CHANCE THAT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FIX PROBLEM. NOW WITH NO HELP FROM THE (FORD).*AK
BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TWICE. THIS WAS CAUSED BY RUSTED ROTORS WHICH WENT BAD, CAUSING LOOSE REAR BRAKES. DEALER HAS BEEN AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
ON JUNE 7TH, ONE OF THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER RT/S TIRES ON MY TRUCK FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON I-77. THIS IS THE SECOND TIRE THAT HAS FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FIRST SEPTEMBER 2002. IT APPEARS THAT ONE OF THE BELTS SEPARATED FROM THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. GOODYEAR REPLACED THE FIRST TIRE AT NO CHARGE, BUT I AM GOING TO HAVE THEM REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH ANOTHER BRAND. THERE WERE NO PUNCTURES OR EVIDENCE OF PRESSURE LOSS NOTED ON EITHER TIRE. GOODYEAR CLAIMS THE DAMAGE WAS RESULTANT OF TIRE PRESSURE LOSS. THIS TIRE WAS THE REPLACEMENT TIRE FOR THE ONE THAT FAILED LAST YEAR. THE MILEAGE ON THE FIRST ONE WAS ABOUT 7000 MILES AND THIS ONE WAS ABOUT 5500. *JB
I HAVE A 1997 F-150 IN WHICH I HAD TWO WHEELS RUST THROUGH SO THAT THE TIRES LEAKED AIR. THE OTHER TWO WHHEELS WERE EX ESSIVELY RUSTED AS WELL. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE THE 4 WHEELS. I SAW NO RECALLS, SO I SUSPECT THIS IS A REGIONAL ISSUE ( SALT IN WINTER) AS I'VE SEEN OTHER 1997 F-150S WITH SIMILAR RUSTED WHEELS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THIS SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURER RECALL.*AK
TRUCK AND BEEN PARKED THE PREVIOUS DAY WITH NO PROBLEM, UPON CRANKING THE NEXT DAY MOTOR STARTED KNOCKING. INSPECTION SHOWS BENT PISTON ROD ON # 3 CYLINDER WHICH ALLOWDE THE PISTON TO STRIKE THE CRANK SHAFT. THIS WAS CAUSED FRON THE HEAD GASKET ALLOWING FLUID TO SEEP INTO THE CYLINDER.*AK
STEERING COLUMN FAILED AT STEERING SHAFT GEAR INPUT.... COULD SPIN THE WHEEL LIKE A FRISBY AFTER GOING OFF THE ROAD. NO SOUND, NO NOISE, NO WARNING..AND, THANK GOD, NO BODY AROUND.
I WENT OUT TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE MOTOR LOCKED UP. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF SEVERAL CASES OF THIS SAME ENGINE FAILING AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING SOMEONE WILLING TO REBUILD IT. DT
