CONSUMER STATES THERE IS A THUMPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING, TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCED, ALSO DEALER KEPT THE VEHILCE FOR ONE DAY BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, CONSUMER STATES HE KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE, HE IS NOT REQUESTING FOUR BRAND NEW TIRES BUT WANTS THE BAD TIRE REPLACED. I PRUCAHSED MY NEW TRUCK ON OR ABOUT SEPT 1998. SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT HAD BUT PRBLEMS WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES. THEY RODE LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING DOWN A ROCKY ROAD I TRIED ROTAING THEM AND KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THE AIR PRESSURE OF THE TIRES. THE TWO FRONT TIRES WERE REAL BAD AND I ENDED UP JUST BUYING TWO MORE FROM THE LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER IN GREENVILLE, KY. I AM A KY STATE POLICE TROOPER AND NOW WHEN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH A TIRE THEY FELT AS IF THEY WERE OUT OF ROUND BUT COULD NOT CONVINCE THE FIRESTONE DEALER SO I JUST BOUT TWO MORE. I MOVED THE TWO REAR TIRES UP FRONT AND PUT THE TWO NEW ONES ON THE BACK. EVEN WITH THE BEFORE THE NEW TIRES I NOTICED THAT THE TIRES DID NOT MAINTAIN A CONSTANT AIR PRESUURE IN THEM AND RECENTLY DURING THE HOT WEATHER WE HAVE BEEN HAVING HERE I HAVE TO ADD ADDITIONAL AIR TO THE TIRES. I HAVE CONTACTED FIRESTONE AND FORD ABOUT THIS BUT NO ONE IS SAYING ANYTHING. IN THE COMMING WEEK I AM GOING TO BUY ME 4 NEW TIRES AND JUST GET THEM OFF I DONT TRUST THEM IF YOU WOULD LIKE THEM I WOULD BE HAPPY TO GIVE THEM TO YOU FOR FUTHER TESTS. *AK
SPARE TIRE RUBBING ON CROSS MEMBER AND CUTTING THROUGH SIDEWALL MAKING TIRE UNUSABLE. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 35-40 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT ANY TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
REAR LEAF SPRING: ON THE F-150, EXTEND CAB, LONG BED, THE LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING IS OVER-LOADED BECAUSE THE FUEL TANK ( AND THE DRIVER ) ARE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LEAN AND BECOME UNSTABLE. WHEN CARRING A LOAD, THE MAJORITY OF THE WEIGHT SHIFTS TO THE LEFT SIDE AND THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE MORE UNSTABLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPRING ONCE BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. / LEFT POWER WINDOW: THE WINDOW STICKS ALL THE TIME. THE ONLY TIME IT WORKS PROPERLY IS WHEN IT RAINS AND THE TRACK GETS WET.*AK
THERE IS A BLIND SPOT LOCATED ON PASSENGER'S SIDE OF VEHICLE, WHICH ASSISTS OCCUPANTS TO ENTER VEHICLE, AND WHICH IS ATTACHED TO MIRROR , HAS CAUSED A BLIND SPOT, RESULTING ALMOST IN A CRASH. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FROM ENGINE HEAD GASKETS. NOTICED ON DASHBOARD PANEL COOLANT GOING DOWN, . OVERFLOW HAD NO COOLANT. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON BRAKES, AND MECHANIC INDICATED THAT GASKETS WERE LEAKING DUE TO A CRACK IN ENGINE HEAD GASKETS. WARRANTY EXPIRED, BUT VEHCLE WILL BE FIXED. *AK
WHILE HAVING VEHICLE SERVICED TECHNICIAN NOTICED REAR BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY DUE TO ABS VALVE NOT WORKING. PLEASE PROVIDE FUSRTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO TIE ROD FAILURE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED FRONTWARD OR BACKWARDS BECAUSE BOT FRONT WHEELS WERE POINTED INWARD.
THE TRUCK IS A 3 DOOR EXT. CAB. THE DRIVER & PASSENGER DOORS BOTH CRACKED NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOWS TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE DOOR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE STRESS FRACTURE WOULD PROBABLY GIVE ON IMPACT & CAUSE THE DOOR TO CRUSH IN ON THIS AREA AND THE WINDOW TO BREAK, BOTH ON THE OCCUPANT. FORD DID REPLACE BOTH DOORS UNDER WARRANTY APPROXIMANTELY 20 MONTHS AGO-THE REPLACEMENT DOORS ALSO CRACKED IN THE SAME AREA. FORD MUST BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM - 1999 MODELS HAVE DIFFERENT DOORS. THIS IS A RAMPANT PROBLEM ON 1997 & 1998 FORD TRUCKS. THIS WOULD BE SAFETY CONCERN UPON AN IMPACT.
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED PEDAL PULSATES, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER HAS CHANGED PADS AND ROTORS. HOWEVER, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *AK SLC
ENGINE HAS A "SPARK KNOCK" DURING LIGHT TO MODERATE ACCELERATION, EXTREMELY BAD ON HEAVY ACCELERATION.*AK
I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS VERY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT HE IS ALSO AN F150 OWNER AND THAT HE CANNOT GET FORD TO FIX HIS PROBLEMS EITHER. WHE I CALL FORD AT 1800 392 3673 THE LADY THAT ASSISTED ME TOLD ME THAT SHE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH PROBLEMS. WHICH GOES TO SHOW THAT FORD IS JUST TRYING TO HIDE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BOUGHT AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH THE DEALER SAYS IT WONT COVER THIS FAILURES, AND THAT FORD IS ONLY REPLACING DOORS ON VEHICLES THAT THEIR WARRANTY HASNOT EXPIRED. FROM WHAT I HAVE GATHER, I AM ONE IN THOUSANDS OF F150 OWNERS WITH THIS TYPE OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AND ALL WE WANT IS TO HAVE OUR PROBLEM FIX.*AK
GAS PEDAL JAMMED UNDER FLOOR MAT, HIT FRONT PORCH OF HOUSE,COULD NOT STOP VEHICLE WITH BOTH FEET FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL. SAME THING HAPPENED MANY TIMES ON THE FREEWAY, BUT COULD ALWAYS PULL FLOOR MAT BACK WITH MY FEET, THIS TIME HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY, AND MY GRANDSON WAS STANDING IN FRONT OF THE PORCH. THANK GOD HE TOOK OFF RUNNING, I PANICKED OR I WOULD HAVE PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. I FEEL THAT IS A DESIGN DEFECT, THERE SHOULD BE A HOOK TO HOLD THE MAT IN PLACE, APPARENTLY FORD THINKS SO TOO, THE NEW TRUCKS HAVE THE HOOKS. MY TRUCK HAS A LITTLE PLASTIC SCREW THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BURROW INTO THE CARPET, IT DOES NOT WORK. *AK
HAVE CONTACTED FORD SERVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCKS. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
DOME LIGHT WILL NOT SHUT OFF, DOOR ADJAR LIGHT STAYS ON. IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER FORD P/U'S WITH THIS SAME PRBLEM. *AK

THE PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW FRAMES ARE CRACKING ON THE REAR LOWER CORNER ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S DOORS. THE CRACKS ARE ABOUT 1/8 INCH IN LENGHT.I HAVE SEEN OTHER F-150S WITH CRACKS LIKE THESE. I HAVE A 97 F-150 THAT IS ALSO CRACKING IN THE SAME PLACE.*AK
UNABLE TO DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL WHICH CAUSES AN INCREASE IN SPEED. *AK
THERE IS A STRESS FRACTURE IN THE EXTERIOR OF BOTH DOORS NEXT TO THE GLASS ON THE LATCHING SIDE (NOT HINGE SIDE). THIS DEFECT IS COVERED UNDER THE 3 YEAR, 36,000 MILE WARRENTY ALTHOUGH IT'S THE USE OF THE DOOR NOT HOW FAR YOU DRIVE THAT WILL ALLOW THE DEFECT TO OCCUR. IF LEFT UNREPAIRED, IT COULD CAUSE CUTS ON THE HAND, AND I QUESTION THE INTEGRITY OF THE DOOR AROUND THE GLASS.
TRUCK HAS HYDRO-CARBON IN COOLANT SYSTEM THAT RESULTS IN TRUCK OVER HEATING ON NUMEROUS OCASSIONS. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
THERE ARE CRACKS FORMING ON BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS DOOR FRAMES. ABOUT 3 INCHES ABOVE THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW AND RUNNING TO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. THE CRACKS ARE THROUGH THE OUTSIDE METAL OF THE DOOR.*AK
THE UNEVEN IDLE IS DANGEROUS. I'VE HAD IT REPAIRED TWICE. I HAVE BEEN AT A FULL STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND HAD THE CAR IDLE UP SO SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY THAT THE CAR JUMPS FORWARD 2 FEET BEFORE I CAN STOP IT. I HAVE ALMOST HIT PEDESTRIANS CROSSING IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCAISIONS. I HAVE TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AT STOPLIGHTS OR APPLY VERY HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. I'VE CALLED FORD, TAKEN IT TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS FOR REPAIR, AND THE MECHANIC'S ALL ACKNOWLEDGE THEY'VE SEEN THE PROBLEM BEFORE ON THIS TRUCK BUT THE CENTRAL CUSTOMER CARE PEOPLE CLAIM TO HAVE NO RECORD.*AK
WHEN SPARE TIRE WAS REMOVED AT JUST UNDER THREE YEARS AFTER PURCHASE IT WAS FOUND TO BE ERODED IN EIGHT PLACES WHERE IT HAD RUBBED AGAINST THE CARRIAGE ASSEMBLY. THE WORN AREAS WERE DEEP ENOUGH TO RENDER THE SPARE UNSAFE. THE DEALESR WAS CONTACTED AND ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE MANAGER ADMITTED THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CARRIER ASSEMBLY HE REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRE.*AK
1/2" CRACK IN DRIVER SIDE DOOR WHERE WINDOW MOLDING MAKES 90 DEGREE BEND, BEEN THROUGH FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LOCAL DEALER WITH NO SATISFACTION, TSB ON PROBLEM EXISTS ALONG WITH LETTER BETWEEN FORD AND DEALERS DESCRIBING PROBLEM IN 1997-2000 F 150S. *AK
EITHER WHILE USING CRUISE CONTROL OR SHUT OFF CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED, AND USED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE AND CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE ERRATICALLY. DRIVER MUST TURN VEHICLE OFF IN GEAR ON STRAIGHTWAY TO GAIN CONTROL. SOMETIMES WHEN THIS CONDITION PERSISTS ENGINE REVS VERY HIGH. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING ENGINE PROBLEMS WITH WATER MIXING IN OIL PAN. ENGINE WOULD MAKE A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN FIRST STARTING OR INTERMITTENTLY. OWNER WAS INFORMED THAT VEHICLE HAD A CRACKED BLOCK. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
ON APRIL 2, 2000 WHILE TRAVELING ON THE PARKS HWY. THIS VEHICLE ACCELERATED & CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE OUT OF THE DRIVER'S CONTROL. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED HEAVILY FOR THREE QUARTERS OF A MILE OR MORE IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE & FIND A PLACE TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND ATTEMPT TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. ONCE THIS WAS ACHIEVED, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED NORMALLY. NYE FORD SERVICE DEPT. WAS CONTACTED & A PCV KIT WAS INSTALLED BY THAT DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 19, 2000. ON AUGUST 13, 2002 THIS VEHICLE AGAIN ACCELERATED & CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE OUT OF THE DRIVER'S CONTROL. THE SAME PROCEDURE WAS USED TO STOP T HE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED NORMALLY ON THE FOURTH ATTEMPT. DURING THE FIRST 3 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WAS REVVING OUT OF CONTROL.*AK
CRACK APPEARING AT RIGHT-HAND BOTTOM SIDE OF WINDOW CAUSING IT TO RUST. MR
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 1998 FORD F150 PICKUP. THERE HAVE BEEN OCCASIONS WHEN USING MY RIGHT FOOT TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE SPACE BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS IS SPANNED BY MY FOOT CAUSING ACCELERATION AT THE SAME TIME THE BRAKE IS BEING APPLIED. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WITH FORD SERVICE PERSONNEL ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AND WAS, TOLD THAT IT WAS THE FIRST THEY HAD HEARD IT, AND THAT IT MUST BE UNIQUE TO MY DRIVING. I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED THAT FORD TAURUS AND MERCURY SABLE VEHICLES WITH ADJUSTABLE BRAKE/GAS PEDALS HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT OTHER F-150 DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS APPARENT BRAKE/GAS PEDAL PROBLEM WITH FORD F-150 PICKUPS BEING INVESTIGATED AND/OR ADDRESSED FOR CORRECTION. DT
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH ON HIGHWAY. THE PIN IN THE REAR AXILE BROKE CAUSING THE AXILE TO COME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE HOUSING, HITTING THE SIDE OF PICKUP AND THEN FLEW INTO OPEN FIELD. CARS BEHIND SAW THIS HAPPEN AND LUCKY IT DID NOT HIT THEM. GOOD CONTROL OF PICKUP KEPT FROM HAVING A ROLLOVER OR GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. DT

WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER TRIED TO TURN THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ON AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. *JB
AT 20 MPH TIE ROD BROKE AND TRUCK HIT A STREET CORNER. VEHICLE WAS TOWED FOR REPAIRS. A WEEK LATER AT 45 MPH TIRE ROD BROKE AGAIN AND CAUSED FRONT END TO FLIP AFTER HITTI NG STREET REFLECTOR. NO SERIOUS DAMAGE TO TRUCK, AND NO DEPLOYMENT OF AIR BAG.*AK

THE SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT AT 30,000 MILES WHICH CAUSED GASOLINE TO SPRAY ONTO THE ENGINE. CONSUMER BOUGHT A NEW ENGINE. CURRENTLY, AT 40,000 MILES VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
CONSUMER HEARD A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE CONSUMER STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND A PIECE OF METAL FELL OFF ONTO THE GROUND. CONSUMER PICKED IT UP, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MECHANIC WHO STATED THE LEAF SPRING FAILED. *AK *TS *JB

CONSUMER SMELLED A BURNING ODOR WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT DISC BRAKE HUB BROKE IN THE LOCKED POSITION. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET THE PART REPLACED BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER DISCONTINUED MAKING THE PART. *AK
