CROSS FRAME MEMBER WHICH CONTAINS THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT WAS EXTREMELY RUSTED OUT AND CRACKED. STATE SAFETY INSPECTION REP INDICATED IT WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION IN THE NEAR FUTURE. FORD NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE FRAME MEMBER. I WAS LUCKY AFTER A LONG SEARCH TO FIND A DEALER WHICH STILL HAD THE PART AVAILABLE. PART # IS: XL3Z6A023CA. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OPERATED IN WARWICK NY SINCE NEW AND IN NORTHEASTERN PA SINCE 2007. I BELIEVE IF THE FRAME MEMBER WOULD FAIL THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DROP DOWN. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE RUSTED UNIT. IF YOU CARE TO SEE THEM PLEASE SEND AN E-MAIL ADDRESS AND I'LL ATTACH THEM TO A E-MAIL. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE TO REQUIRE MANUFACTURES TO USE BETTER MATERIAL FOR PICKUP TRUCK FRAMES AND BRAKE LINES. I HAVE ALSO REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE LINES ON THIS TRUCK RUSTING OUT. ONE INCIDENT, I REPORTED, OCCURRED AFTER BACKING UP A RV IN A CAMPSITE AFTER JUST DRIVING OVER 150 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. PROVIDENCE PROTECTED ME AS I COULD HAVE LOST THE BRAKES WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE! *JS .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT UNLATCHED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 210,000.
THROTTLE BODY LINKAGE "PLASTIC COVER CLAMSHELL" CRACKED IN HALF AT PLASTIC HINGE (OXIDIZED PLASTIC) . LOOSE PLASTIC COVER WEDGED OPEN THROTTLE FULLY CAUSING "DANGEROUS LIFE THREATENING" DRIVING STUCK AT FULL THROTTLE. I HAVE THE COVER AND PHOTOS IF YOU WANT ME TO SEND THEM. *TR
ENGINE THREW A SPARK PLUG OUT OF THE HOLE, BROKE THE MOUNT FOR THE COIL PACK. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. *TR
A SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE RIGHT SIDE HEAD OF THE ENGINE HEAD WHILE RUNNING DOWN THE HWY AT 60 MPH. THE HEAD MIGHT BE DAMAGED. I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO GET IT FIXED. BEEN A FORD TRUCK GUY ALL MY LIFE & I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD HASN'T ACCEPTED ANY RESPONSIBILITY OF ANY PORTION OR KIND FOR THIS. MY ESTIMATED EXPENSE TO REPAIR THIS IS $1,000 TO $3,000 DEPENDING ON ANY DAMAGE TO THE HEAD ETC.. I PAID $4200 FOR THE TRUCK IN APRIL OF 2013...IT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION & TO GOOD TO JUNK IN MY OPINION. BESIDES I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER TRUCK SO I HAVE TO TRY TO FIX IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A BLOWN SPARK PLUG THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT OPERATING WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND ONLY THE BED OF VEHICLE REMAINED. NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE REGARDING THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 15 MPH, THE FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAPS FAILED AND THE FUEL TANK BECAME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE STRAPS HAD FAILED DUE TO RUST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS LOOSE AND ALLOWED RAIN WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
SPARK PLUG EJECTED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGH WAY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME A PLUG HAS EJECTED. THE FIRST TIME THE TRUCK HAD 39000 MILES, ORIGINAL FACTORY TORQUED SPARK PLUGS. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 F 150 AND THE BED SUPPORT RAILS AND BED FLOOR ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY AS WELL AS THE FRAME RAILS. I AM AFRAID THE BED WILL COME OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND CAUSE A WRECK. FORD HAS GOT TO KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WHY ARE THEY NOT ADDRESSING IT? I KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME STYLE TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, I BOUGHT A PICKUP TRUCK TO USE AS A TRUCK AND NOW I AM AFRAID TO BECAUSE WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL FALL OFF THE TRUCK DUE TO ALL OF THE RUST. TOYOTA HAD A MAJOR RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS SAME ISSUE, WHY DOES THE GOVERNMENT NOT MAKE FORD DO THE SAME THING??? I HAVE HAD PICKUPS IN THE PAST THAT WERE A LOT OLDER THAT DID NOT RUST LIKE THIS. MAKE FORD FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE A BED FLIES OFF AND CAUSES AT MINIMUM A WRECK AT WORST A DEATH. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARK PLUG HAD BECOME LOOSE AND HAD EJECTED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60 MPH ON A COUNTY ROAD WHEN THE NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. I WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY, BUT THE INCIDENT SCARED MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. BECAUSE OF THE PLUG BLOWING OUT ME AND MY DAUGHTER WERE STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR ABOUT AN HOUR IN THE FLORIDA SUN WAITING ON SOMEONE TO COME AND GET US AND THE TRUCK. I CALLED AROUND AND SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS STATED IT WOULD COST ME BETWEEN $700 AND A $1000. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE I DISCOVERED THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR THE 5.4 TRITON ENGINE. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE ON ME TO FIX. I FEEL THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT IN THE CYLINDER HEAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO INCREASE SPEED VIA THE CRUISE CONTROL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. AFTER REACHING THE TARGET SPEED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO DEACTIVATE. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,899.
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF ENGINE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR ON TWO DIFFERENT PLUGS. THESE ARE THE ORIGINAL PLUGS. *TR
FUEL TANK STRAPS RUSTED THRU THE GAS TANK, FORD REPLACED THE STRAPS, BUT WOULD NOT COVER THE GAS TANK. THE FRAME, ROCKER PANELS, CAB & BED ARE RUSTED THRU, WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AGAIN.
AFTER STARTING ENGINE, SPARK PLUG #2 BLEW OUT OF CYLINDER HEAD. DAMAGING COIL WITH A LOAD EXPLOSION! *TR
THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS TOTALED. *TR
SPARK PLUG EJECTION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THIS IS THE 3RD (THIRD) PLUG THAT HAS BLOWN OUT IN THE PAST YEAR. THIS IS THE FOURTH REPAIR DUE TO THE FIRST REPAIR USING A "REPAIR KIT" THAT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED TO THE MECHANIC. THIS REPAIR KIT AND COIL PACK BECAME OVERHEATED AND BLEW OUR AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF RUN TIME. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE THIN ALUMINUM HEADS IS THE SOURCE OF THIS PROBLEM. IS THERE ANY RECALL OR CONCERNS FROM FORD ON THIS PROBLEM. I DO NOT THINK I AM ALONE WITH THIS SITUATION. *TR

THE REAR PORTION OF THE FRAME IS ROTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THE LET SPRINGS HANGERS ARE READY TO BREAK OFF THE FRAME AND THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER IS ALSO READY TO FALL OFF. I JUST REPLACED THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES DUE TO THE WERE ALSO ROTTEN AND BROKE. THE GAS TANK STRAPS WERE ALSO A PROBLEM DUE TO RUST BUT FORD THOUGH ENOUGH OF THE PROBLEM THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT, TOYOTA HAD A PROBLEM WITH RUSTED FRAMES AND DID A MASSIVE RECALL ON THAT ISSUE. WHY HASN'T FORD DONE THE SAME THING? THE FRAME SHOULD BE THE LAST THING ONE NEEDS TO WORRY ABOUT WITH ANY VEHICLE. THE TRUCK CURRENTLY HAS 146000 MILES AND NOW WE NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE NEXT MOVE WILL BE WITH THIS VEHICLE. REPAIR IT, JUNK IT OR TRADE IT ????? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED HOWEVER, THE ENGINE ROARED ABNORMALLY LOUD AND EXHIBITED A REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER. THE CONTACT FOUND A SPARK PLUG SITTING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE, WHICH APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE OFFERED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 149,500.
WHILE DRIVING ON MO HWY 150, I HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED MY 2002 FORD F-150 KING RANCH 4WD, TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. UPON OPENING THE HOOD I DISCOVERED THE #3 ENGINE CYLINDER SPARKPLUG WAS GONE! AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE HOME I CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE MOTOR FIXED. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $865.00. I WENT ON THE WWW AND DISCOVERED THAT THE FORD MOTORS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS PROBLEM. FURTHER, IF THE PLUG WOULD HAVE STRUCK THE FUEL LINE JUST ABOVE, A FIRE MIGHT HAVE ENGULFED THE VEHICLE. I FEEL THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES WITH THIS 5.4 MOTOR AND REPLACE ALL PARTS EFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED 2 WINDOW REGULATORS FRONT AND BACK PASSENGER NOW MY FRONT DRIVER IS ABOUT TO GO OUT EACH TIME IT COST ALMOST $300.00 TO FIX IT. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS AND FEEL IT IS A FORD PROBLEM OF DEFECTS. AND SHOULD BE PAID AT THEIR EXPENSE. AS I SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS FROM FORD CUSTOMERS OF THIS PROBLEM. DRIVERS SEATBELT UNLATCHED. HAPPENS OFTEN. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE GAS TANK FELL OUT. THE TANK STRAPS HAD RUSTED THROUGH DROPPING THE TANK. THE TANK CUT OPEN FROM SKIDDING ON AN INTERSTATE EXPRESSWAY RELEASING 23 GALLONS OF FUEL. FORD DEALERSHIP INSPECTED AND SAID THE STRAPS ARE UNDER RECALL AND WILL REPLACE, BUT WILL NOT REPLACE THE TANK. THE TANK IS ONLY DAMAGED DUE TO FAULTY STRAPS WHICH FORD HAS IDENTIFIED AS PROBLEMATIC. THE FAULTY STRAPS BY FORD HAVE RESULTED IN A LARGE FINANCIAL LOSS DUE TO TOW, CLEANUP, GAS LOSS, TIME.... AND FORD ESTIMATES $800 FOR A NEW GAS TANK. THIS IS A SEVERE HAZARD AND THANKFUL NOBODY WAS INJURED. I BELIEVE THE NEXT PERSON MAY NOT BE SO FORTUNATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING AND PARKING THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE. PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT THE CONTACT HAD NOTICED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED BUT WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THEM THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE THAT WERE NEVER SATISFIED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE OF WHICH RECALLS WERE OPEN ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNOCCUPIED, IT IGNITED INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THERE WAS A BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SIMILAR CONSEQUENCE AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE UNLATCHES SPONTANEOUSLY. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE THAT DESCRIBE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH SEAT BELTS IN THIS TRUCK MODEL. UNBELIEVABLY, FORD WILL NOT REPAIR THIS OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AT IT'S EXPENSE. I BELIEVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE AN OFFICIAL RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE JUST PURCHASED THIS USED VEHICLE, AND UPON INITIAL INSPECTION IT WAS IDENTIFIED THAT THERE ARE 2 SEATBELTS IN THE VEHICLE THAT ARE FAULTY AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE PREVIOUS OWNER INDICATED THAT THE DRIVER SEATBELT HAD PREVIOUSLY RELEASED DURING NORMAL OPERATION WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BUTTON ON THE BUCKLE. IN MY INSPECTION, I OBSERVED THAT THE SEATBELT BUCKLE'S BUTTON WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RELEASE AFTER BEING PRESSED. IT APPEARS THAT THE SPRING IS TOO WEAK TO FORCE THE BUTTON UP TO ENGAGE THE CLASP IN THE BUCKLE. IN SEARCHING FOR A REPLACEMENT SEATBELT, IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BEING TALKED ABOUT IN DISCUSSION BOARDS ONLINE. IT APPEARS THAT THIS ITEM IS OUT OF WARRANTY. AS I PREPARE TO REPLACE THE BUCKLE, I AM HESITANT TO REPLACE WITH ANOTHER OEM PART SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE ONLINE. I PLAN TO SEARCH FOR AN AFTERMARKET PART, BUT WOULD LIKE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THIS ISSUE BEFORE MOVING FORWARD. IS FORD AND THE NHTSA AWARE OF THIS ISSUE? THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ADVISED HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION, HE NOTICED A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT THE HEAD OF THE MOTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALUMINUM IN THE BLOCK WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE SPARK PLUG. THE HOLE WAS RE-THREADED AND A SLEEVE WAS PLACED INSIDE. AFTER THE CONTACT DROVE 50 MILES, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DIFFERENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. MY 2002 FORD F150 XLT SUP CAB 4WD V8 HAS BEEN ACTING UP FOR A MONTH OR SO IT STARTED BY ACTING LIKE IT HAD A DEAD BATTERY BUT THAT WASN'T IT WE USED 2 NEW BATTERY'S IN IT SO THE LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP SHOWED US HOW TO REMOVE THE HOT POST HAVE THE TRUCK TURNED ON BUT NOT CRANKED AND WHEN YOU REPLACE THE HOT POST WATCH FOR THE RPM TO RACE TO THE HIGHEST THEN BACK DOWN TO 0 THEN CRANK IT THIS IS A TWO MAN JOB BY THE WAY AND IT WORKED THEN IT JUST STOPPED NEEDING TO BE DONE AND HAS BEEN RUNNING FINE I DROVE IT ON TUESDAY NO PROBLEMS AND TODAY FRIDAY SOMEONE CAME INSIDE AND TOLD ME THE TRUCK WAS CRANKING ON ITS OWN I HAD THE ONLY SET OF KEYS IN MY POCKET SO I THOUGHT IMPOSSIBLE WELL I WENT TO CHECK AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS TRYING TO START ON ITS OWN I GOT INTO THE TRUCK AND TRIED TO CRANK IT BUT IT WOULDN'T START ON MY 3RD TRY IT TURNED OVER BUT SOUNDED LIKE THE STARTER WAS BANGING INTO SOMETHING AND NOW THAT I HAVE READ MULTIPLE CASES WHERE PEOPLES TRUCK HAS CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE NO ONE WAS IN IT AND IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN A FEW DAYS I WONDER IF THERE TRUCK HAD TRIED TO START ON ITS OWN AND THEY JUST DIDN'T KNOW IT IM GOING TO CALL FORD MOTOR COMPANY TOMORROW BUT THE PEOPLE WHOSE TRUCKS CAUGHT ON FIRE GOT NO HELP FROM THEM IM HOPING THEY WILL HELP ME BEFORE MY TRUCK CATCHES ON FIRE ITS UNDRIVEABLE AT THIS POINT BUT A FIRE WOULD NOT ONLY DESTROY ANY CHANCE OF FIXING IT BUT THE DAMAGE THE TRUCK COULD CAUSE TO OTHER THINGS OR PEOPLE AROUND IT WOULD BE IRREVERSIBLE HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THERE TRUCK TO CRANK WITHOUT A PERSON OR KEY NEAR IT ? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 70 MPH. WHEN THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT IT RESUMED TO A NORMAL SPEED OF 55 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT AND OFFERED NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 275,000.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF CYLINDER HEAD. ORIGINAL PLUGS IN ENGINE SO NOT A QUESTION OF IMPROPER TORQUE AS FORD CONTENDS. FORD EVEN HAS A NAME FOR THE ISSUE = "SPARK PLUG EJECTION". IMPROPER DESIGN CAUSED IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER IN TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. HAD TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD. POTENTIAL FOR FIRE DUE TO UNBURNED FUEL VAPORS ESCAPING CYLINDER BORE INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH NOW HAD SPARK COIL EXPOSED DUE TO FAILURE. *TR

THE #3 PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TOWARDS THE REAR BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE HAS NEVER HAD THE PLUGS REPLACED. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK NEW FROM FORD IN APRIL 2002. THE TRUCK HAS THE FORD 5.4 TRITON. THE PLUG HAS ALL OF ITS THREADS THE HEAD HAS NO THREADS. THE COIL WAS ALSO DAMAGED WHEN THE PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH I HEARD A LOUD POP FOLLOWED BY DECELERATION AND ENGINE MISFIRE. EXAMINED ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND OBSERVED COMPRESSION AIR FROM #4 SPARK PLUG. OVERHEAD COIL BROKE OFF AND STILL ATTACHED TO #4 SPARK PLUG. GAS FUMES AND STILL SPARKING PLUG WAS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN SO I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED 150.00. AND 300.00 REPAIR TO RETHREAD CYLINDER HEAD. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS ORIGINAL SPARKPLUGS AND EXAMINED ALL REMAINING PLUGS. # 1 PLUG SEATING WAS DAMAGED UPON INSPECTION AND APPEARED THAT IT WAS ABOUT TO POP OUT ALSO. *TR
I ALWAYS LATCH MY SEAT BELT. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SINCE 1983. I NEVER DRIVE WITHOUT MY SEAT BELT LATCHED. FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS MY DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT HAS BEEN MYSTERIOUSLY BECOMING UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I THOUGHT I JUST WASN'T PUSHING IT IN FAR ENOUGH SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER BEFORE HAD AN ISSUE WITH IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW MILES OF DRIVING THE SEAT BELT BECOMES UNLATCHED. IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE BECAUSE IT MAKES AN AUDIBLE CLICK AND RECEDES BACK SLIGHTLY RELIEVING ANY TENSION APPLIED TO MY TORSO. FOR A LONG TIME I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY AND I HAD JUST BEEN IN A HURRY OR SOMETHING. AFTER THE UNCLASPING I REINSERT IT INTO THE RECEIVER THEN I JOSTLE IT AND SEE IF IT UNCLASPING AGAIN. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO CAUSE IT TO BECOME UNCLASPED BY JOSTLING IT AND UP TILL TODAY IT WOULD NEVER BECOME UNCLASPED AFTER RESETTING IT. IT HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS. THE FREQUENCY HAS INCREASED TO AN ESTIMATED 1/3 OF THE TRIPS THAT THIS HAPPENS. WELL TODAY I EXPERIENCED IT AGAIN AND REINSERTED THE SEAT BELT AND JOSTLED IT AND CONTINUED DRIVING. THIS TIME I DIDN'T GET A MILE BEFORE IT BECAME UNCLASPED AGAIN. AHA! I AM NOT CRAZY. OKAY THAT SOUNDS A LITTLE LIKE I AM BUT I ASSURE YOU I AM NOT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND IT HAS TAKEN ME SEVERAL YEARS TO FINELY PROVE TO MYSELF THAT THE SEAT BELT IS DEFECTIVE. SO BECAUSE THE DRIVER CAN NOT REPRODUCE THE UNCLASPING BY MANUALLY JOSTLING THE SEAT BELT WE TELL OURSELVES THAT IT MAY NOT BE THE SEAT BELT. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO NOT TAKE THE REQUIRED ACTION OF HAVING THE SEAT BELT FIXED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH MY LIFE AT RISK FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND ASKED IF THEY HAVE HEARD OF THE ISSUE IN MY VEHICLE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED NO OTHER COMPLAINTS. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THREE BOLTS THAT HELD THE STEERING GEAR TO THE FRAME WERE FRACTURED. THE HEAD OF THE BOLTS SNAPPED AND ONE SIDE OF THE BOLTS APPEARED TO BE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE.
