WHEN CHANGING THE BRAKES ON MY 2005 F150 I FOUND THE FRAME COMPLETELY RUSTED THRU THE EXTERIOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE WITH MINIMAL CORROSION.
PURCHASED FORD F150 FROM OLD SAYBROOK FORD, FEB. 16. THE TRUCK HAS THE 5.4 ENGINE WHICH HAS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF ENGINE FAILURE. DRIVING ON ROUTE 1 WHEN TRUCK ECCELORATES OR LOSES POWER. WHEN WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK THE CHAIN GUIDE WAS BROKE AND EATING THROUGH THE CASE. SPARK PLUGS GET STUCK IN ENGINE OR PROPEL THEM SELVES THROUGH THE TRUCK HOOD. DANGEROUS ENGINE TO HAVE ON ROAD. I OWE 8000.00 ON A TRUCK THAT NOW NEEDS 4-6000 WORTH OF WORK.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving and making a turn at various speeds, there was an abnormal popping noise detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the spark plugs, cam shaft sensor, and coils were replaced. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the CV axle boots were torn. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline. The approximate failure mileage 91,082.
EXTENSIVE MAIN FRAME RAIL RUST RENDING TRUCK UNSAFE TO DRIVE NOW. STARTED AROUND 2010.
FOLLOWING PURCHASE FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP WITH A TUNE UP AND MILAGE RELATED SERVICE COMPLETED MY 2005 FORD F150 RAN FOR LESS THAN 6000 MILES BEFORE A STUCK FUEL INJECTOR CAUSED A FAILURE OF THE ENGINE. AT THE TIME I WAS COMING TO A STOP UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS FOLLOWING A 18 MILE COMMUTE FROM MY PREVIOUS STOP. A METALLIC SOUND WAS HEARD AND THE DRIVE BECAME SHAKY AND WEAK IN ACCELARATION. I PROCEEDED 4 BLOCKS TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM.THE FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR WHICH WAS UNDETECTED UNTIL COMPLETE FAILURE AND RESULTING DAMAGE TO ENGINE COMPONENTS. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY OTHER FORD OWNERS ONLINE WILL COST MY FAMILY OVER $6000 WITHOUT A RECALL ON THE PARTS KNOWN TO FAIL WIDELY IN THESE VEHICLES.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT CITED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V208000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000.
I HAVE A 2005 F150 FX4 THAT I BOUGHT IN 2010. IN 2017 WITH THE TRUCK BEING 12 YEARS OLD. I HAD TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROAD BECAUSE OF FRAME ROT! THIS WAS MY BABY AND TAKEN WELL CARE OF. BOTH SIDES IN FRONT OF THE REAR AXLE ARE ROTTED OUT TO THE POINT A JACK JUST GOES RIGHT THROUGH THEM. THE INSPECTION FAILED BECAUSE IF THEY WOULD HAVE LIFTED IT, IT WOULD HAVE FOLDED IN HALF. ALSO HAS A BROKEN FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING. I SHOULD HAVE A VEHICLE WORTH AROUND 8-10 GRAND THAT IS GOING TO SELL FOR SCRAP METAL PRICED. WHY ARE AMERICAN AUTO MAKER NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING DEFECTIVE VEHICLES? MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS AN 199O TOYOTA TACOMA THAT HAD A FRAME ROT RECALL AND MINE WAS SPOTLESS. FAST FORWARD, BOUGHT AN AMERICAN MADE VEHICLE THAT COST ME 15 GRAND AND GOT 6 AND A HALF YEARS OUT OF AND NO ONE HOLDING FORD RESPONSIBLE! SICKENING!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F-150. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES WAS PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED, A TICKING TYPE NOISE WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL UNKNOWN DEALER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,600.
FRAME RUSTED AND CRACKED, 72,000 MILES. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER. NOTE, ALL OTHER UNDERBODY COMPONENTS APPEAR NORMAL FOR AGE AND MILES; THOUGH I DON'T HAVE TOO MUCH FAITH IN REAR DRIVE SHAFT. LOCATION IS IN FRONT LEAF SPRING ATTACHMENT BRACKET ADJACENT TO FUEL TANK.
FORD F 150 CRACKED REAR FRAME RAILS TRUCK MADE IN 2004 THEY HAD A RECALL FOR TRUCKS MADE IN 2004 BUT MY TRUCK IS TITLED AS A 2005 THEY MUST STILL HAVE HAD BAD FRAMES LEFT OVER THEY USED TO BUILD 2005 TRUCKS REAR OF TRUCK IS FLOATING WHEN YOU DRIVE IT.
VEHICLE WENT INTO "FAILSAFE" MODE ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR! AND MOST RECENTLY, TWO WEEKS AGO! BOTH AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON TWO DIFFERENT INTERSTATES IN FLORIDA! VERY DANGEROUS, AND HARD TO CONTROL VEHICLE TO "LIMP" TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP! MANY POSSIBLE CAUSES FROM ELECTRICAL, FUEL, OR ENGINE ISSUES THAT ARE WELL DOCUMENTED ON MANY INTERNET SITES AND F150 FORUMS! ALSO RUST ISSUES ON ROOF OF VEHICLE IN RAIN CHANNELS! VERY COMMON,AND VERY POOR DESIGN!
ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE
MY 2005 F150 XLT 4.6L ENGINE BLEW OUT THE #3 SPARK PLUG. THIS IS A TERRIBLE INCONVENIENCE AND FRIGHTENING TO THINK THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND LEAVE YOU STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF "NO WHERE", A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, COULD EVEN BE LIFE THREATENING AND YET FORD WILL NOT OWN UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR INADEQUATE DESIGN. TO THINK THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND LEAVE ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF "NO WHERE" IS VERY FRIGHTENING AND COULD BE DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING. THIS COULD PROVE VERY COSTLY AT $280 A PLUG..
2005 FORD F150, ONLY 85,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE OVERALL EXTERIOR BODY OF TRUCK HAS ZERO RUST AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HOWEVER, THE MAIN "FRAME" OF THE TRUCK, WHICH SUPPORTS ALL THE WEIGHT AND STRUCTURE OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTED THROUGH. I LIVE IN WISCONSIN AND HAVE OWNED MANY FORDS, AND OTHER TRUCKS. NEVER HAVE I HAD A FRAME OF A TRUCK RUST OUT LIKE THIS. THESE TRUCK SHOULD LAST 200,000 MILES +, AND I HAVE DONE JUST THAT ON PREVIOUS VEHICLES. HOWEVER, WITH THE BODY HAVING ZERO RUST, IT IS OUT OF THE NORM TO SEE THIS FRAME RUSTED THROUGH WITH HOLES IN THE MAIN STRUCTURE OF THE FRAME. I WAS ADVISED BY MULTIPLE AUTO SHOPS THIS CAN NOT BE WELD REPAIRED DUE TO SAFETY STANDARDS. FURTHER, IN ORDER TO FIX THE ISSUE AND MAKE THE VEHICLE SAFE, THE ENTIRE FRAME MUST BE REPLACED. BEING THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT, I FIND IT ABSURD THAT THIS IS EVEN AN ISSUE. AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS SORT OF CORROSION ON THE UNDER BODY, AND YET THE QUARTER PANELS, TAILGATE, BUMPER ARE ALL ZERO RUST. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THERE IS A METALLURGICAL DEFECT IN THE STEEL USED FOR THIS FRAME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS POSTINGS BY OTHERS OWNING THE 2005 MODEL AND MANY HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. FRAME RUSTING OUT BEFORE IT EVEN HITS 100,000 MILES, AND THESE ARE DAILY DRIVERS. AS OF NOW, THIS VEHICLE IS DEEMED UNSAFE BY THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, AND EVEN THE MASTER TECHNICIAN ON SITE WAS PERPLEXED BY THE UNDERCARRIAGE CORRODING AS IT HAD, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE "CLEAN" INSIDE AND OUT, WITH NO RUST.
I WAS DRIVING IN MY 2005 FORD F-150 5.4 WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. IT WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE I'M DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. JUST RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING WHEN I STARTED TO LOOSE POWER, BUT THIS TIME STARTED HEAR A LOUD BANGING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I DROVE THE TRUCK WITH ALMOST NO POWER TO THE MECHANIC. THERE I WAS TOLD THAT IT A CAM SHAFT ISSUE. AS THEY UNCOVERED THE ENGINE II WAS TOLD I WOULD A NEW ENGINE AT THE COST OF $7500. AS I LATER WENT ONLINE I FOUND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING WITH FORD 5.4 ENGINES. IT SEEMS TO ME FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT ARE NOT WILLING TO STAND BY THEIR PROBLEM. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTANANCE SINCE HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER OF THE TRUCK. I LOVE THE TRUCK BUT I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR HAVING ENGINEERED A BAD ENGINE. I THE SINGLE PROVIDER OF MY FAMILY AND DON'T HAVE MONEY TO BE THROWING AWAY ON NEW VECHICAL. I ALSO BELIEVE THE TRUCK STALLING OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY WAS COMPLETELY DANGEROUS AND I WAS LUCKY NOT BE HIT BY ANYONE ELSE. PLEASE HELP.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED DUE TO AN EXPIRED WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 174,000.
NEW TRANS NEEDED, COMMON ON MOST F150. OVERDRIVE LIGHT FLASHES AND WON'T SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND MISFIRED, AND SMOKE COULD BE SEEN COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INITIALLY DIAGNOSED A FUEL LEAK FROM THE EXHAUST. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT INJECTOR NUMBER 7 WAS NOT CLOSING CORRECTLY AND CAUSING THE FUEL TO ENTER THE CYLINDER. AS A RESULT, THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL ON THE INJECTORS. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,000.
I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION LAST YEAR. JUST BLEW OUT OF NO WHERE. THIS YEAR ALONE I NEEDED NEW HUBS, ALL8 CYLINDERS HAVE A MISS FIRE MY TRUCK DROPPED FROM 60 TO TEN IN SECONDS SO SCARY
TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE (ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR THE OXYGEN SENSOR) AND WHEN THEY PUT THE TRUCK ON THE LIFT THE FRAME FOLDED BECAUSE IT HAD RUSTED OUT ON BOTH SIDES. I WAS STILL DRIVING THIS TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW AND IT WAS DRIVEWAY PARKED IN CONNECTICUT FOR THE 12 YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT. THE MILEAGE ON THE TRUCK IS A LITTLE OVER 40K AND THE BODY PARTS OF THE TRUCK LOOK VERY GOOD. I HAD TO SCRAP THE TRUCK FOR PARTS, VERY SAD. SOMEONE SHOULD NOTIFY OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2005 F150S TO CHECK THE FRAMES BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS THIS BAD.

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V107000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,450.
I OWN A 2005 FORD F-150 4X4 EXTENDED CAB WITH JUST OVER 60,000 MI. FOR ITS AGE, THE TRUCK IS IN PRETTY NICE SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THE FRAME, IT'S GONE, RUSTED! THERE IS A SECTION BETWEEN THE CAB & ENGINE BAY THAT YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGERS THROUGH, NOT ONE BUT SEVERAL FINGERS, LET ALONE IN OTHER AREAS THOUGH OUT THE FRAME THAT ARE ALSO ROTTED THROUGH. IT'S A BOXED FRAME WITH NO INSIDE COATING MADE WITH WHAT I READ ELSEWHERE WAS CHEEP STEEL, WON'T MENTION WHERE FROM, BUT NOT US STEEL. YES I LIVE IN NE, AND IT HAS TASTED SALT FROM THE ROADS, BUT I ALSO KEPT IT CLEAN ALL WINTER LONG. I PAID A LOT FOR THIS TRUCK, BOUGHT IT NEW AND NOW FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN CHEATED. I AM NOW ON MY THIRD NEW FORD TRUCK, A 2018, AND I'M AFRAID TO WALK BUY IT WITH A SALT SHAKER IN MY HAND. MY FIRST WAS A 1984 F-250 THAT I DROVE FOR 21 YEARS, PUT 100,000 MILES ON IT, SOLD IT IN 05, AND IS STILL ON THE ROAD TO THIS DAY ON IT'S THIRD OWNER. I KNOW WHERE IT LIVES. I'M READING ON LINE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF THESE TRUCKS, LET ALONE I BELIEVE FORD HAS ALREADY REPLACED FRAMES IN A MINI VAN FOR THIS SAME REASON. I ALSO HAVE A FEW PICTURES. THERE IS A PIC JUST SHOWING THE UNDERSIDE, WHICH FOR THE MOST PART IS IN GOOD SHAPE, A LITTLE SURFACE RUST, NO THROUGH ROT. NOW THE FRAME PICS, ANOTHER STORY. THESE TRUCKS ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AS TO WHERE THE BOLTS HOLDING IT IN PLACE ROT OUT AND NOW YOU HAVE A NOISY EXHAUST LEAK TRUCK THAT HAS TO HAVE ITS MOTOR TAKEN OUT TO HAVE THAT REPAIRED, GOT THAT GOING ON ALSO. THE MAINTENANCE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V270000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,778.
I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF MY 2005 FORD F-150 XLT 5.4L 3V 4X4 CREW CAB (VIN# AVAILABLE ON REQUEST) AND THERE IS A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I CAN HEAR THE NOISE WHILE IDLING IN DRIVE, IDLING IN REVERSE, IDLING IN NEUTRAL, IDLING IN PARK AND TRAVELING UNDER LOW THROTTLE AND/OR POWER IN ANY GEAR(IT IS ESPECIALLY LOUD WHEN THE ECHOES BOUNCE OFF OF A HARD-SIDED BUILDING, SUCH AS A DRIVE-THROUGH RESTAURANT). THE EVENTS LEADING TO MY BREAKDOWN ON A BUSY ACCELERATION RAMP ARE AS FOLLOWS: MY VEHICLE LOST ALMOST ALL POWER ON AN ACCELERATION RAMP, SLOWING ME DOWN TO A CRAWL. IT ALSO CAUSED MASSIVE OIL LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, WHICH RESULTED IN ROAD SPILLAGE, CAUSING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR ME AND THE PEOPLE AROUND ME. I'VE DONE SOME INDEPENDENT RESEARCH AND HAVE PERSONALLY HAD THIS ISSUE FIXED ONCE. I'VE HAD IT FIXED AT A MECHANIC, THE RESULTING REPAIR COSTS ENDED UP BEING ~$3500. FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR RECEIPT IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST, BUT THE MAIN ISSUES WERE THE CAM PHASER, AND TIMING CHAIN. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE UPON MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND I AM FORMALLY REQUESTING THE NHSTA TO INVESTIGATE AND HOLD THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY (HEREAFTER REFERRED TO AS "FORD") RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS POOR DESIGN CHOICE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL FOR EVERY FORD F-150 REPORTED WITH THIS ISSUE, AS WELL AS REIMBURSEMENT FOR ANY DOCUMENTED REPAIRS CONDUCTED BY MECHANICS FROM FORD. BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED AT 150000 MILES. AFTER 5000 MILES THE LOUD TICKING THAT THESE TRUCKS ARE KNOWN FOR BECAME LOUDER. AT 161000 MILES THE ENGINE DIED. I STARTED IT UP IN MY DRIVEWAY ONE MORNING AND INSTEAD OF JUST TICKING, IT WAS KNOCKING 100X LOUDER. THE TRUCK BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THEN IT JUST DIED. ALL THIS HAPPENED IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP, AND THEY SAID I NEED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK IF I WAS DRIVING AND THIS HAPPENED, WHAT THE OUTCOME WOULD BE. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE ONLINE SAYING SIMILAR THINGS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL WAS ISSUED. THAT IS IRRESPONSIBLE, AND VERY DANGEROUS ON FORD'S PART.
#8 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING. REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS AND TORQUED. FOUR DAYS LATER #8 PLUG BLEW OUT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, A LOUD NOISE COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CAM PHASER ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CAM PHASER, SOLENOID, AND TENSIONER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTED WITH AN EVEN LOUDER NOISE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT, THE SEAT BELT TENSION SEIZED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD TO BE REPLACED( AT A FORD DEALERSHIP ). THE REASON FOR REPLACEMENT WAS THE SHAFT THAT GOES FROM THE WHEEL INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL HAD ADJUSTMENT ISSUES WHEN MAKING NORMAL TURNS( THIS OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING SLOWLY ALSO MORE NOTICEABLE WITH QUICK TURNS AND WHEN EXITING ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND THE CURVE ,MAKING THE REAR END JUMP ON TURNS. WHEN DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE THERE WAS NO ISSUE PROBLEMS. SINCE REPLACEMENT THE SAME ISSUES STILL HAVE RECURRED. MY CONCERN IS THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE FORD REAR END DIFFERENTIAL AND AXIAL PARTS BOTH ORIGINAL AND REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT MAY MAKE THE VEHICLE HAVE SAFETY ISSUES PARTICULARLY IN TURNS CAUSING JUMPING OF THE REAR END
5.4 3V TRITON. WHEN THE TRUCK IS AT IDLE AT A NORMAL OPERATING TEMP, IT HAS A HORRIBLE KNOCKING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. FROM WHAT I AM READING THIS ENGINE HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE CAM PHASERS AND TIMING COMPONENTS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING CHAIN IS ABOUT TO FLY OUT OF THE ENGINE. I HOPE MY TRUCK DOESN'T GIVE OUT ON ME BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION TO WORK AND CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED. I BOUGHT A FORD FOR RELIABILITY, BUT UNTIL THIS IS FIXED I FEEL IT'S UNRELIABLE. I HAVE USED A FULL SYN OIL AND THE RIGHT MOTORCRAFT 820S FILTER. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND FORD NEEDS TO PAY FOR THIS AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM OVER AND OVER! RECALL THIS FORD!

THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE CRASH SCENE TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

CPSC;2005 FORD F-150 TRANSMISSION AND MOTOR WENT OUT AT 89446 MILES. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLES PERFORMANCE WAS NOT INDICATIVE OF HAVING BEEN AT A REPAIR SHOP. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER WAS THEN INFORMED THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS ALSO DETERMINED THE INITIAL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED WITH SALVAGED/USED PARTS. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 75 ON A TOLL ROAD THE ENGINE WENT INTO ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE, I LOST ALL POWER AND ALMOST WRECKED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC TRYING TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, I WENT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, 3 DAYS LATER SAME THING, I WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS MOTOR 5.4, WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON THIS ??
TRUCK BEGAN TICKING VERY LOUDLY, THEN BEGAN A KNOCKING NOISE, AND NOW THE ENGINE SHAKES THE TRUCK WHEN IDLING. CAM PHASERS BROKE APART CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TIMING CHAIN. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER TO THE ENGINE AS WELL AS INABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED WHILE ASCENDING AN INCLINE IS FREQUENT. THE LOSS OF SPEED AND POWER HAS CAUSED US SEVERAL CLOSE-CALL ACCIDENTS. TRUCK WILL SIMPLY NOT ACCELERATE WHILE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. ADDITIONALLY, IT ALSO FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK CANNOT CATCH GEARS WHILE IN MOTION.
TRUCK WAS BOUGHT AND I REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS AND EVEN HAD TO REPLACE A CLINOID BECAUSE WAS TOLD THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. ITS NOT... THERE IS A BALL VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT KEEPS THE TRUCK FROM BUILDING ENOUGH PRESSURE TO BE ABLE TO SHIFT WHICH THROWS A CODE AND SAYS MISFIRE ON 6 BEEN REPLACED TWICE NOW SO CLEARLY NOT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE.. TRUCK FEELS AS IF FIXING TO FIE THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON START FLASHING BUT THROW NO CODES AND YOU CANT SPEED BACK UP BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE YOUR TRUCK IS ABOUT TO DIE AND YOU DON'T WANT TO BLOW YOUR MOTOR.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE COUNTRY, AND SOMETHING FELT ODD. AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE, (MORE THAN NORMAL) AND WAS THEN VANISH AFTER 55 MPH. AFTER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, THE SHAKING GOT WORSE. MY FIRST THOUGHT, "I HAVE A MISFIRE ON ONE OF MY CYLINDERS". ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK MY TRUCK THROUGH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I THEN PROCEEDED TO TAKE IT TO MY DEALER BECAUSE AT THIS POINT IT WOULD BARELY GO OVER 40 MPH. THEY CHECKED THE CODE AND TURNS OUT THAT THE TRUCK HAS A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS; THAT WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON THIS WEBSITE ARE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND ENGINE TYPE (5.4L V8 TRITTON). I NEED NEW VCT SOLENOIDS, NEW CAMPHASERS, TIMING ADJUSTMENTS, AND NEW CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THE COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAPPENS TO THIS ENGINE, HAPPENED YET AGAIN. BAD CAM PHASERS. HAPPENED AROUND 138,4XX MILES. NOT SURE IF ANY PREVIOUS OWNER REPLACED THIS PART BEFORE OR NOT. BUT, IT SEEMS EVEN IF REPLACED, THE PROBLEM WILL STILL PERSIST IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS IN NEED OF RECALL.
MY F150 FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH WHERE IT ACTUALLY BROKE I WORK AS A WELDER AND I HAVE FIXED 3 DIFFRANT TRUCKS F150 AROUND THE SAME YEAR IT IS MOSTLY ON DRIVERS SIDE.
FUSE 14 CONTROLLING ABS MODULE, DTR SENSOR, REVERSE LIGHTS, PCV HEATER, AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR, CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH AND DAYTIME HEADLIGHTS WAS REPEATEDLY BLOWING. TRUCK WAS SERVICED BY DEALER ON 3-23-16, REPLACING THE A/C COMPRESSOR. REPLACING THE A/C COMPRESSOR DID NOT RESOLVE ANY ISSUES. THE TRUCK WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 4-6-16 FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME FUSE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUSE AND PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ON THE TRUCK, THEN INFORMING ME THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE OR LOCATE THE SHORT. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL THE FUSE STARTED BLOWING MORE FREQUENTLY. THE FIRST TIME THE TRUCK WAS DRIVEN AFTER WORK WAS PERFORMED THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE TRUCK ENGINE WOULD SURGE AS THE TRUCK WENT DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. THE ISSUE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL HAPPENED ON 4-9-16. ON THE MORNING OF 4-10-16 THE TRUCK WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES AND PARKED IN THE DRIVE OF MY HOME. AFTER ENTERING THE HOUSE THE ALARM WAS HEARD SOUNDING ON THE VEHICLE, AT WHICH TIME I STEPPED OUTSIDE TO FIND THE TRUCK ON FIRE. THE FIRE SEEMED TO HAVE STARTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK.
INSIDE OF TIRE SIDEWALL SUDDENLY CRACKED OPEN LEADING TO RAPID PRESSURE LOSS. THIS SAME TIRE HAS BEEN RECALLED IN OTHER SIZES FOR THIS SAME FAILURE.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,050.
PURCHASED MY VEHICLE USED AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH 85,000. WHICH IS TYPICALLY A GOOD BREAK-IN POINT FOR A TRUCK. WELL AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE HOME FOR LESS THAN A MONTH I'VE NOTICED A TICKING IN THE ENGINE. A TICKING THAT I KNEW LITTLE ABOUT UNTIL FURTHER RESEARCH INTO THESE VEHICLES. SEEMS THAT ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE IN THE WORLD I'VE PURCHASED A FORD LEMON. THE ENGINES RARELY MAKE IT PAST 75,000-100,000. FORD AS A WHOLE ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND DELIBERATELY FIND WAYS AROUND HAVING TO TAKE THE LIABILITY ON. THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THE TICKING IS 1,500 IN REPAIRS OF THE CAM PHASER, WHICH IN A TIMELY MANNER MELTS LIKE BUTTER OR REPLACE IT WITH A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE ONLY TO ENCOUNTER THE SAME ISSUE. WHETHER OR NOT THIS VEHICLE IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. AN ENGINE SHOULD BE ABLE TO LAST MORE THAN 100,000 MILES. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN 500 MILES AND THE PROBLEM IS EVIDENT.
MY TRUCK HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 5.4L'S CAM PHASERS. THE TRUCK MAKES A VERY LOUD NOISE AND SHAKES. TO REPAIR THIS, IT'S AROUND $3,000 AND ALSO I HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ALL 8 COILS WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $1,200 AND A KNOWN MISFIRE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD MOTOR IS AWARE OF THE ONGOING ISSUES IN THIS YEAR TRUCK AND HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALSO IF THE CAM PHASERS ARE NOT REPLACED THE ENGINE WILL BLOW!
BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY METAL STAND PIPE RUPTURED. THIS WAS WHILE DRIVING. LOSS OF VACUUM AND LOSS OF ENGINE PERFORMANCE AND BRAKES WERE SLUGGISH. HAVE TO PUSH ALL WAY TO FLOOR.
KNOWN ISSUE WITH FUEL INJECTORS CAUSED PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE AT 45K MI. TOO MUCH FUEL WHEN COMPRESSED AND IGNITED BLEW THE PISTON APART. FORD REPLACED ENGINE. 80K MILES LATER SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND RECOMMENDATION IS ANOTHER ENGINE. TWO 5.4L ENGINES WITH LESS THAN 130K OVERALL MILES IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. WEB SEARCHES SAY THERE IS CURRENT LITIGATION IN PROGRESS OVER THESE 5.4L ENGINES. I'M MAKING A FORMAL COMPLAINT THAT THE BASIS OF THE LAWSUIT HAS MERIT. FORD HAS ALREADY SETTLED A SUIT OVER THE SPARK PLUGS FOR THESE 5.4L BUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE ENGINES GOES MUCH DEEPER. I'M THANKFUL MY ENGINE FAILURES HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL INCIDENT.
