WHILE PASSING A SLOW MOVING VEHICLE THE THROTTLE STUCK AND ALTHOUGH NO PRESSURE WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT KEPT ACCELERATING. BY HEAVY USE OF THE BRAKE, I WAS ABLE TO RETURN TO TOWN, WHERE I SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. IT IS STILL LOCKED ON, AS WHEN I START IT, THE RPM'S JUMP TO 4000 IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND REQUESTED A TOW. THIS WAS FRIGHTENING, AS I HAD MY GRANDSON IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME.
THE SIDE WALL OF TIRES WITH APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES AND 4 YEARS OLD ARE PEALING OFF. I PURCHASED 4 TIRES WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD A LITTLE OVER 30000 MILES. 2 WERE OK. THE OTHER 2 THE SIDEWALL PEALED OFF IN CHUNKS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TIRES.MICHELIN OFFERED 65% DISCOUNT ON NEW TIRES A YEAR AGO. 11 MONTHS AND 10,000 MILES LATER THEY OFFERED ONLY A 22% DISCOUNT. THEY INDICATED I USED UP 43% OF THE TIRE LIFE IN 11 MONTHS AND 10,000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FAILED TO WORK AND PREVENTED THE DOOR FROM CLOSING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE FRACTURED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
3RD BRAKE LIGHT LAMP LEAKS AND HAS FOR THE LAST 3- 4 MONTHS. WATER LEAKS AROUND THE LIGHT AND DRIPS DOWN THE CEILING OF THE CAB DOWN BACK WALL OF THE TRUCK INTO THE CARPET OF MY TRUCK. IT GOING TO USE IT TO START TO SMELL AND MOLD. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER REPAIR SHOP THEY TOLD ME HE HAS REPLACED HUNDREDS OF THESE LAMPS AND THE NEW FORD PART NEVER LEAKS WHILE HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL OF THE AFTER MARKET ONES ALWAYS LEAK. FORD SHOULD REPLACE ALL OF THESE AT THEIR EXPENSE, AS THEY OBVIOUSLY HAVE A GASKET DESIGN FLAW.
KEEP GETTING FAULT CODE "CHECK FUEL FILL INLET" THIS IS CAP LESS FUEL TANK SYSTEM. I CHECKED CAP LESS FUEL FILL INLET SEEMS OK BUT CONTINUE GETTING FAULT CODES. HUNDREDS FORD CUSTOMERS COMPLAINING ABOUT SAME ISSUE, THIS AFFECTS ALL FORD VEHICLES USING CAP LESS DESIGN. FROM WHAT I READ ON THE WEB CURRENTLY THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO. WARRANTY GROUP AND OPEN A CASE REGARDING THIS ISSUE. MY TRUCK CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSIS THE FAULT CODE. I WAS A DESIGN ENGINEER AT JOHN DEERE FOR 13 YEARS, A PROBLEM FUEL STORAGE COULD BE DANGEROUS AND FATAL. FUEL SYSTEM DESIGN PROBLEM L SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED AND RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY DURING DEVELOPMENT & TESTING FOR THIS TRUCK. I HOPE NHTSA ADDRESS THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND GET THIS ISSUE RECALL LIST. EMPLOYEE WENT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE SHOP FOUND A 3 INCH CRACK IN THE SIDE WALL OF FRONT LEFT TIRE.
I AM THE PROUD OWNER OF A 2009 FORD F150 WITH JUST OVER 42K MILES. THE STEERING HAS INCREASINGLY BECOME MORE-AND-MORE DIFFICULT OVER THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN FOR THE MOST PART- PAMPERED. I DO PULL A SMALL UTILITY TRAILER AND THE TRUCK IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER. I FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE LAST MARCH (2016) AFTER SITTING FOR 6-WEEKS AND THE STEERING DIFFICULTY HAS BECOME MORE PRONOUNCED. THE POWER-STEERING FLUID IS AT THE PROPER LEVEL, THERE ARE NO LEAKS AND TIRE PRESSURE IS NORMAL. YET THE TRUCK STEER'S AND HANDLES AS THOUGH I HAVE LOW/NO AIR IN THE FRONT TIRES AND/OR THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS FAILING. I PLAN ON TAKING THE TRUCK INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR A COMPLETE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. MY OVERALL CONCERN IS TO COMMUNICATE THE IMPORTANCE THAT STEERING AND HANDLING IS VITAL TO THE "SAFE-OPERATION" OF A MOTOR VEHICLE ESPECIALLY A TRUCK. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 1999 F150 AND EVEN WITH OVER 100K MILES, STEERING WAS NEVER AN ISSUE. IN FACT, I HAVE OWNED AND OPERATED MANY VEHICLES WITH OVER 100K MILES BOTH IN THE MILITARY AND IN CIVILIAN USE AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED "STEERING" ISSUES OF THIS NATURE. I AM THEREFORE CONCERNED AS TO THE NATURE OF THIS SPECIFIC FAILURE ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS NOT SEEN HEAVY DUTY USE OR BEEN DRIVEN EXCESSIVELY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE RESUMED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING IT, THE 5.4 LITER ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING SEVERELY AND WOULD NOT POWER THE VEHICLE. I MANAGED TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND GET IT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I HAD FORTUNATELY PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. WHEN I GOT IT TO THE DEALER, ALL THE SERVICE WRITERS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE 5.4 HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC EXAMINED IT AND STATED THAT IT WAS A CAM PHASER ISSUE. HERE IS THE PROBLEM: FORD KNOWS THAT THE 5.4 LITER ENGINE HAS THIS PROBLEM AND WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE IT BECAUSE THERE ARE 1,000S OF THESE ON THE ROAD AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY TO FIX THEM. THAT IS WHY THEY DISCONTINUED THE ENGINE. WHAT IS REALLY BAD, IS THAT THE NHTSA KNOWS ABOUT IT AS WELL. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THESE TRUCKS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. I BARELY GOT THE TRUCK PULLED OVER ON THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 405 FREEWAY! I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. I AM GOING BACK TO MY TRUSTED TOYOTA BRAND!
WHILE ENTERING INTERSTATE I-10, EARLY MORNING TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC MOVING AT 20 - 25 MPH. ENGINE MADE A SERIES OF REVVING NOISES. TRIED TO APPLY BREAKS TO MERGE OVER. BREAK PEDDLE WOULD NOT ACTIVATE. STUCK IN UP POSITION. I APPLIED BOTH FEET AND PRESSED FULL PRESSURE. WOULD NOT GO DOWN. WOULD NOT STOP. ROLLED INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. FORTUNATELY I WAS ONLY MOVING ABOUT 20 MPH AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED. DEALER NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH A REAR WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING THE TRUCK TO TURN TO ONE SIDE. TRAVELLING A LITTLE FURTHER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TURNED THE TRUCK AROUND AND HEADED BACK TO MY HOUSE. TWO OR THREE TIMES AGAIN A REAR WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING A LACK OF CONTROL. IF I WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS THE CONDITION WOULD CAUSE THE TRUCK TO GO SIDEWAYS.

A STRONG MILDEW ODOR EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FELT ABNORMAL. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, IT ALMOST TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS INSTALLED DEFECTIVE FASTENERS ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS OF NUMEROUS MODULAR V8 (4.6L & 5.4L) EQUIPPED F-150S. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE AMONG SEVERAL F-150 OWNERS THROUGHOUT THE US AND CANADA FOR MANY MODEL YEARS. THE PROBLEM WITH THESE MANIFOLD FASTENERS (STUDS) IS THAT AFTER THE NORMAL HEAT CYCLES OF DRIVING AND SITTING, THEY BEGIN TO DETERIORATE AT AN EXCELLED RATE. ONCE A STUD OR STUDS HAVE FAILED, ENGINE EMISSIONS LEAVE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM PRIOR TO REACHING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE WAY TO REPAIR THIS IS BY REMOVING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND MANIFOLDS IN ORDER TO EXTRACT THE BROKEN STUD OR STUDS AND REPLACE THEM WITH IMPROVED PARTS, IN MANY CASES THE ENTIRE ENGINE MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE DUE TO CLEARANCE ISSUES. NOT ONLY IS THIS ISSUE VERY COSTLY TO THE CONSUMER AND THE ENVIRONMENT IT IS ALSO AN ARDUOUS PROCESS TO BE REPAIRED EVEN BY SOMEONE THAT IS MECHANICALLY INCLINED. MY 2009 F-150 CURRENTLY HAS THIS SAME ISSUE. WE WERE DRIVING ON A FM ROAD IT WAS PITCH BLACK THAT NIGHT AND CAME UP A HILL AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WAS A BIG BLACK COW, I SWEREVED TO TRY AND MISS IT AND NOT HIT IT HEAD ON BUT CLIPPED ITS BEHIND ON THE RIGHT FRONT QUARTER PANEL, THE NEXT THING I KNOW THE CAB IS FULL OF SMOKE AND SMELLED LIKE WIRES BURNING, SO I GO TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND KILLED IT MADE SURE EVERYONE WAS OK AND WENT TO THE ER TO GET MY CHILDREN CHECKED OUT, UNKNOWN WHY THEY FAILED TO DEPLOY
VEHICLE WAS MOTION. MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE 93. DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO HIGHWAY SPEED. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE PEDAL DID NOT COME BACK, BUT RATHER WAS STUCK WIDE OPEN. I WAS FORCED TO PULL INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE, TURN OFF THE ENGINE, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND COAST TO A STOP. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, I RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND IT WAS FINE. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 4.6L 3-VALVE PER CYLINDER V-8 ENGINE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT DOES NOT HAVE CRUISE CONTROL OR ANY POWER OPTIONS. I DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS AFTER READING OVER 100 REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. THE MANUFACTURER DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED BECAUSE OF IT.

TRAVELING AT 65 MPH ON THE EXPRESS WAY, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND THE TRUCK TOOK OFF, ACCELERATING AS IF IT WAS BEING FLOORED!. I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE ENGINE STILL CONTINUED TO REV ITSELF AND ACCELERATE. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A STUCK FLOOR MAT BUT NOTHING WAS IN THE WAY. I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN AND POPPED THE GEAR SHIFTER INTO NEUTRAL. THIS STOPPED THE ENGINE FROM REVVING ITSELF AND ACCELERATING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CLAIM TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE! THANK GOD I DID NOT SMASH INTO THE VEHICLE THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME.
THE STEERING WHEEL ATTACHMENT BOLT WORKED ITS WAY LOOSE AND THE WHEEL FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I ADJUSTED THE STEERING WHEEL L. IT POPPED OFF ITS SETTING AND FELL ON MY LAP. MAKING STEERING IMPOSSIBLE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO ALIGN THE WHEEL AND SHOVEBIT BACK IN PLACE UNTIL I COULD GET VEHICLE STOPPED. THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED AN SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS THE GOOD ALIGNMENT OF MY TIRES AND LUCKILY I GOT THE WHEEL LINED UP AND ON WITHIN A SECOND.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK DUE TO BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO HEAD BOLTS. ON COLD START THERE IS A MODERATELY LOUD EXHAUST LEAK THAT DIMINISHES AS THE ENGINE HEATS UP. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED WHEN FIRST NOTICED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. WHILE PARKED, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,273.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMING FROM THE SEAT BELT SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,330.
COMING HOME, SOMETHING LET LOSE UNDER THE HOOD AND WAS TINKING. ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED HOME WHERE WE FOUND OUT THE SPARK PLUG EJECTED. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AS I JUST BOUGHT MY TRUCK 2 MONTHS AGO, THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. CALLED FORD CORP THEY WOULDN'T GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I FOUND THIS WAS A TBS. I CALLED A FORD DEALER TO SEE WHAT TO DO. HE TOLD ME IT WOULD HAVE TO BE FIXED AT MY EXPENSE. TOOK IT TO A GARAGE WHERE THEY FIGURED THE SPARK PLUG EJECTED AND RUINED A FEW OTHER PARTS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER A WEEK LATER I HAVE MY TRUCK BACK. NOT SURE HOW MUCH IT COST YET, THE BILL IS IN THE MAIL ONCE HE FIGURES IT OUT!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT NOTICED RUST ON THE BOTTOM CORNERS OF THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER CREW CAB DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A DRAIN TUBE CAME FROM THE SUN ROOF AND HAD NO WAY FOR THE WATER TO GET OUT. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS RUST AROUND THE LOWER FRONT STRIP OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS, AND THE BOTTOM TWO CORNERS OF THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS NEEDED TO BE CUT OUT AND THE METAL RE-WELDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER (KIP KILLMON FORD, 201 E MAIN ST, LOUISA, VA 23093 (540) 967-1350) WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT NHTSA'S PHONE NUMBER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR A VEHICLE OF THAT YEAR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM A WELL KNOWN AND POPULAR DEALER IN UTAH. WE DID NOT NOTE ANY NOISES DURING THE TEST RIDE AND VEHICLE APPEARED IN GREAT CONDITION. ON THE DRIVE HOME (OF COURSE) WE STOPPED FOR DINNER. NOTICED A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THIS CONTINUED AND WORSENED AND WE FEARED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE PROBLEM SUBSIDED WHEN THE RPM'S INCREASED SLIGHTLY. WE WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM REPEATABLE IN A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEEDS AND LOW RPMS. SPECIFICALLY WHEN TURNING LEFT AND THE PROBLEM WORSENED WHEN THE 4X4 WAS SELECTED. I VIDEO TAPED THE ENGINE NOISE AS PROOF FOR THE DEALERSHIP. DOING RESEARCH WE HAVE NOTED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 F150 5.4 L. RANGE OF PROBLEMS DESCRIBED AS EITHER CAM PHASER OR INTERNAL ENGINE PROBLEM. CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN NOTED AS EITHER CAM PHASER REPLACEMENTS (NOT VERY HELPFUL) OR FULL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING TO RETURN.

THE LOCAL DEALER SAID IT WAS THE CAM PHASER, AND THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS 2009 TRUCK WAS ASSEMBLED IN NOVEMBER OF 2008. TRUCK WAS PURCHASED USED WITH 36000 MILES IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. CAM PHASERS REPLACED AT 43800 MILES.

I TOOK MY 2009 FORD F-150 INTO LES SCHWAB FOR A TIRE ROTATION AND THEY POINTED OUT THAT ALL FOUR OF MY HANKOOK DYNAPRO ATM LT285/55-20 RF10 TIRES WITH DOT # T7VWRFH4510 HAVE APPROX. 1-1 1/2" CRACKS AROUND THE ENTIRE TIRE WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE SIDEWALL. THE TIRES HAVE APPROXIMATELY 28,000 MILES ON THEM AND STILL HAVE AGGRESSIVE TREAD LIFE. LES SCHWAB RECOMMENDED REPLACING AND DID NOT HAVE AN ANSWER AS TO WHY/HOW THIS OCCURRED. *TR
I CAME HOME AND NOTICED FLUID ON MY DRIVEWAY AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND IT COMING FROM THE WIRE HARNESS SLEEVE IN THE TRANSMISSION. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY ARE SO BACKED UP WITH THIS ISSUE AND OTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT IT WOULD BE A MONTH BEFORE THEY COULD TAKE MY TRUCK IN. AFTER ACCELERATING TO PASS ON THE HIGHWAY (65 MPH TO 70 MPH), THE TRUCK REMAINED GOING 70 MPH WHEN ACCELERATOR RELEASED. VEHICLE COULD BE SLOWED WITH DIFFICULTY BY APPLYING BRAKES, BUT WOULD RESUME SPEED WHEN BRAKES RELEASED. FORTUNATELY, TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT BEING USED AT TIME OF INCIDENT. ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE ISSUE FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES/MINUTES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (DETERMINED ACCELERATOR NOT STUCK ON FLOOR MAT, ENGAGED AND DISENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL, BRAKED REPEATEDLY WHILE MAKING SURE I WAS ALSO NOT HITTING THE ACCELERATOR). EVENTUALLY SLOWED VEHICLE TO APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH WITH EXTREME BRAKING ON AN UPHILL INCLINE, AT WHICH POINT VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW ANY FURTHER. TOOK TRUCK OUT OF GEAR AND SHUT OFF ENGINE (VEHICLE STOPPED). HAD TOWED TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF FORD DEALER WHO "COULD NOT REPRODUCE PROBLEM" BUT REPLACED ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND CLEARED/REPROGRAMMED COMPUTER. AFTER THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT THE CAB HAD MELTED AND ALL THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE.WAS BURNED AND MELTED. THE WINDSHIELD HAD. RACKED AND BROKEN IN MANY PIECES FROM THE HOT FIRE. HAD AAA TOW THE TRUCK TO A AUTO REPAIR SHOP. IT WAS TOTALED CALLED FORD CO AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS OF A SPONTANEOUS FIRE WITH THESE TRUCKS. TODAY THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY DETERMINED IT SHOULD JUST BE HANDLED WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THEY TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY. AAA HAD NOT SENT THEM ANY PAPERWORK YET ON THE INCIDENT. BUT THEY DETERMINED WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT EVIDENCE WAS GOING TO BE REPORTED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE TO HANDLE IT. FOUND ON GOOGLE A COMPLAINT SIGHT WHERE 44 PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE REAR DOOR WIRING HARNESSES ARE UNDER/POORLY ENGINEERED FOR NORMAL USAGE AND DURABILITY AND ARE SUBJECT TO PREMATURE BREAKAGE SPECIFICALLY WHERE THE BODY MEETS THE DOOR RESULTING IN MULTIPLE EXPOSED WIRES CAUSING FIRST AND FOREMOST THE DANGEROUS POTENTIAL FOR VEHICLE FIRE AS WELL AS INOPERABLE DOOR AJAR SENSORS, ELECTRONIC LOCKS, WINDOW CONTROL AND INTERIOR LIGHTING.
WE ARE THE OWNERS OF A 2009 FORD F-150. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WE RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL STATING THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE DOOR AND THAT WE NEEDED TO TAKE IT IN FOR REPAIRS. WE FOLLOWED PROCEDURE AND TOOK OUR TRUCK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP & THE RECALL ISSUE WAS FIXED (OR SO WE THOUGHT) AND WE NEVER GAVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT. WELL, FAST FORWARD TO A LITTLE OVER 1 MONTH AGO ( APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS AFTER THE 'RECALL' ISSUE WAS FIXED ), OUR TRUCK WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. NOT A MAJOR ACCIDENT, BUT A FENDER BENDER. WHEN THE OTHER VEHICLE HIT OUR TRUCK, THE SIDE PASSENGER DOOR OPENED/ UNLATCHED. THE ORIGINAL RECALL STATED IT WOULD/ COULD UNLATCH DURING A SIDE IMPACT, BUT THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE FIXED THAT. IN OUR MINDS THAT PROBLEM WAS FIXED & WE HAD PEACE OF MIND. WELL OUR TRUCK DID NOT RECEIVE A SIDE IMPACT, BUT A REAR END IMPACT, AND THE DOOR ISSUE APPARENTLY WAS NOT FIXED AT ALL. THE PASSENGER DOOR OPENED/ UNLATCHED AND MIND YOU, THIS WAS A FAIRLY MINOR ACCIDENT. ONLY PROPERTY DAMAGE, NO BODILY INJURIES. I AM NOW SCARED FOR OUR SAFETY AS I DON'T FEEL MY FAMILY IS SAFE IN OUR TRUCK SHOULD ANOTHER ACCIDENT OCCUR, ESPECIALLY A BIGGER IMPACT ACCIDENT, & HAVING THE DOOR UNLATCH LIKE THAT INSTEAD OF PROPERLY PROTECTING THOSE INSIDE. THIS HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES. THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN SLOWING DOWN DUE TO THE FUEL PUMP INSIDE THE FUEL TANK GETTING BENT UPWARD DUE TO THE TANK COLLAPSING ON ITSELF BECAUSE IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO VENT PROPERLY. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP BUT IT ONLY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN BENT AS WELL OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE GAS GAUGE READS IMPROPERLY AS WELL DUE TO THE PUMP NOT REACHING THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK. I CAN ONLY FIT ABOUT 17 GALLONS INTO A 30 GALLON TANK UPON REFILLING. THE STALLING THAT THIS CAUSES HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER OWNERS TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD ACCIDENTS. FORD REFUSES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGING. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED AND THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM THAT FORD NEEDS TO REPAIR. PLEASE REQUIRE FORD TO RECALL AND FIX THIS DESIGN FLAW BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE IS KILLED OR INJURED.
