TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INSPECTING THE BRAKES, HE DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD NOT REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.
NOTICED ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR ON FRONT TIRES. TOOK VEHICLE TO SHOP TO HAVE TIRES ROTATED AND ALIGNMENT CHECKED. A SAFETY CHECK REVEALED BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WERE BROKEN.(SEE PHOTOS) FRACTURE OCCURRED AT THE TRANSITION FROM TIGHT RADIUS (PIGTAIL) AT THE BOTTOM, TO LARGER RADIUS. THE SPRING THEN BOWED OUT OF COLUMN AND STARTED RUBBING THE STRUT BODY. VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY HAD A SAFETY CHECK AT THE SAME SHOP AT 47726 MILES ON 1-20-2016 WITH NO SPRING DEFECT NOTED. DEFECT WAS NOTED AT 60800 MILES ON 4-13-17. REPORT GENERATED BY ORIGINAL OWNER. LEFT SPRING FAILURE WAS NOT NOTICED BUT RIGHT FAILURE MAY HAVE OCCURRED WHEN ENCOUNTERING NORMAL POTHOLE THAT CREATED A STARTLING BANG NOT COMMENSURATE WITH THE DEPTH OF THE STREET DEFECT. OWNER DID NOT NOTICE ANY STEERING WHEEL DISPLACEMENT ASSOCIATED WITH A WHEEL MISALIGNMENT. OWNERS CONCERNS. 1) VEHICLE WAS LESS THAT 7 YEARS IN SERVICE LESS THAT 61000 MILES. 2) ESSENTIALLY A SILENT FAILURE, FIRST CLUE WAS ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR. 3) MODE OF FAILURE COULD ALLOW SPRING TO PASS OVER PERCH CAUSING SUDDEN COMPLETE COLLAPSE OF THAT CORNER SUSPENSION. 4) IF SPRING REMAINS IN PLACE, RUBBING ON STRUT BODY WILL CAUSE FAILURE OF THE STRUT ITSELF AFFECTING HANDLING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, A KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE UPPER BALL JOINT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,000.
THE ORIGINAL MICHELIN TIRES ON MY 2010 F-150, HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CRACKING AROUND THE RIM ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. TIRES HAD 31346 MILES AT REPLACEMENT ON 5 OCT 2015. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL REAR SHOCKS AT 31360 MILES DUE TO ONE LEAKING AND ONE THAT WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL.
CONSTANT SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION. DEALER HAS TRIED SEVERAL SOLUTIONS AND CANNOT REPAIR PROBLEM. DEALER THINKS THAT THE SUSPENSION SPRINGS ARE DEFECTIVE FROM FORD BECAUSE THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE IS WAY TOO NEW TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM TO OCCUR. AROUND 25000 MILES THE TRUCK HAS DEVELOPED A SIGNIFICANT SHAKE WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 65 OR ABOVE MPH. IT HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON FREEWAYS. FORD MOTORS REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION OR MAKE REPAIRS ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN FULL WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THE U-BOATS ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE THAT HOLD THE REAR AXLE IN PLACE, WERE NOT PROPERLY TIGHTENED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THERE WAS A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHENEVER THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE REAR TIRES WERE BALANCED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE U-BOATS WERE 50 POUNDS UNDER TORQUE. THE DEALER STATED THE REAR AXLE SHIFTED OUT OF PLACE ON THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE AXLE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,500.
WE NOTICED A VERY BUMPY RIDE, AS A PERSON WOULD EXPECT WHEN DRIVING DOWN A ROUGH GRAVEL ROAD WITH POT HOLES. WHEN THE FORD MECHANIC CHECKED IT OUT, WE WERE TOLD BOTH REAR SHOCKS WERE NO GOOD "GONE". WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY LOADS TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. IS THIS A DEFECT OR AN ISOLATED INCIDENT? *TR
MY VEHICLE RIDES NEARLY IDENTICAL TO ODI CASE 10392353. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF TOWN I HAD TO SLOW FOR A ROUGH SPOT ON THE ROAD WHERE THE PAVEMENT HAD SLOUGHED AWAY ON A GENTLE ANGLE. AFTER GOING THROUGH THE AREA I TRIED SPEEDING UP FROM ABOUT 50KPH (35MPH). THE TRUCK'S STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SWING BACK AND FORTH AND THE TRUCK WAS VIBRATING/SHAKING BADLY. MY 2010 FORD XTR 4X4 HAS APPROX. 36000 KMS (22000 MILES) ON IT. AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 85-95KPH (55-60MPH) THE TRUCK ALSO BEGINS TO SHAKE/VIBRATE. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER IT HITS ANY ROUGH PAVEMENT OR POTHOLES-EVEN THE SLIGHTEST- IT WOBBLES LIKE JELLY. IT HAS 18" GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TWICE TO THE DEALER WITHIN THE PAST 3 WEEKS. AFTER THE FIRST VISIT, I HAD THE TIRES RE-BALANCED JUST TO ELIMINATE TIRE BALANCE ISSUES. BOTH TIMES THEY ROAD TESTED IT AND SAID IT JUST STIFF SUSPENSION. THEY ASKED ME TO ROAD TEST A SIMILAR VEHICLE WITH LIKE MILEAGE AND TIRES. IT DID THE SAME BUT NOT AS VIOLENTLY. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM AROUND THE 85-95KPH IS RELATED TO TORQUE-CONVERTER WANTING TO LOCK UP. MY JOB REQUIRES A LOT OF DRIVING BUT THE 'BOWL-OF-JELLY' RIDE, AS I WOULD DESCRIBE IT, MAKES FOR NEVOUS DRIVING AS THE THOUGHT OF HITTING A SOFT, ROUGH, OR ANY KIND OF ROAD BLEMISH WHILE MEETING TRAFFIC AND MAYBE BEING THROWN INTO THE PATH OR CROSSING CENTER LINE IS ALWAYS THERE. *TT
THIS ISSUE IS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE , EXCESSIVE NOISE OR CLATTER IN THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION AS SOMETHING IS LOOSE OR BROKEN. FORD CONTINUES TO CLAIM IT IS THE SHOCKS MAKING NOISE BUT THE SERVICE TECH'S BELIEVE IT IS NOT NORMAL. I HAVE SPENT 6 + MONTHS TRYING TO RESOLVE !! *TR
