I keep reading online and hearing a bunch of instances regarding trying to accelerate and the truck falling flat and losing power. (This recently happened to me trying to get onto the expressway.) I was driving on the on-ramp and pushing the pedal to accelerate and I was parallel to the front of a semi truck. I tried passing and the truck completely went into limp mode and thank goodness there was a shoulder because I braked as hard as I could and threw the steering wheel as far to the right as I could. My life flashed in front of my eyes and it made me want to sell the vehicle because I have a baby and if it wasn’t for instinct I don’t know where I’d be. And that’s why I am posting this in hopes of this issue being some sort of recall. I later went to an auto parts store and the code read P2112 the tech said it was pertaining to the throttle bottle and it’s a common issue. I don’t know how many hundreds/thousands of people this has happened to but in my humble opinion this needs to be addressed. The vehicle is a 2016 F150 King Ranch 3.5L EcoBoost
Both turbos, spark plugs, catalytic converters, O2 sensors. If turbos blow up while drive it will shoot vanes in the motor. Yes JD automotive replaced all the above mentioned parts. will include copy of the invoice, not the only ford owner that has had issues out of the ford twin turbos failing. not sure if dealer inspected turbos, but they replaced the spark plugs 3x in less then 3 months (lemon) and the throttle bottle. Didnt share this information with me when vehicle was purchased. Issue started with a P0430 codes which falsely say its a cat code. I used cataclean due to the low miles and would still get code every once in while. less the 2 years from purchasing it used had both turbos fail. not sure if it was a mis diagnosis from mclarty daniel in Bentonville Arkansas or if ford knowing made motors with bad turbos.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that oil was leaking from the vehicle onto his driveway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the vehicle was experiencing the failure listed in TSB: 20-2051 and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact the VIN was not under recall. No further assistance was provided. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 67,000.
My vehicle lost all break pedal function and lost all breaking during operation. I was able to reduce speed and avoid a serious accident on the highway at 55 mph. Individuals in front of me could have been injured had I not been able to stop using the emergency brake. It seems that there is an issue with the brake master cylinder on this vehicle. Warning lamps and message came on after the failure. This vehicle has been scheduled for inspection on 02/23/2023 at 11:00 am.
On 2/14/23 my 2016 Ford F-150 experienced an intermittent loss of steering while driving. There was a total loss of steering. I would turn the steering wheel, and the wheels would not respond. The steering wheel would turn freely, with no connection to the wheels. Upon parking my vehicle and turning it off, and removing the key, the steering wheel continued to "tick" and turn on its own. There were no warning lamps or messages. Once I restarted the vehicle the steering was not responding like normal. My safety was at risk had this happened at a greater speed, or in a different area I would have crashed. I had the truck towed to the local Ford dealership. It has now been there for 7 weeks . They have been unable to replicate the problem, or identify any solutions. I was told I could just pick up the truck or trade it in on a new truck since they could not identify the problem. I told them I was not comfortable driving it or selling it for someone else to drive with an issue that could prove catastrophic or deadly.
Transmission stuck in 1st gear, 3rd gear, or unable to shift and total loss of power after sudden braking to stop. This has happened over 6-8 times in my time of ownership. Starting between early 2021-2022. Vehicle currently has 76000 miles. Temporary resolution was to turn vehicle off and back on again. There have been reports that sometimes that does not work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ng3HJdyyoM
My truck stalls at a low rate of speed when driving in traffic. My truck is available for inspection at most any time and I have not notified any party but NHTSA. There were no warning lights or messages to indicate anything.
Passenger side exhaust manifold failed at 56,000 miles and was repaired through emissions warranty. Driver-side exhaust manifold failed at 74,000 miles and Ford will not cover it. I believe both manifolds should have been replaced at 56,000 miles or the current failure should be replace through warranty.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the repair. Following the repair, the contact stated that the tailgate failed to release as intended per the revised instructions from the manufacturer. The instructions stated that the vehicle needed be in park(P) for the tailgate to be released. The contact stated that the tailgate only released while the vehicle was turned off, whether the vehicle is in park(P), drive(D), or neutral(N). The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who was able to duplicate the failure but was unable to determine the cause for the failure. The dealer surmised that the failure was related to a programming issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 82,550.
Transmission downshifts from 6 to 5 and locks up. I have taken to dealership many times still not correcting the problem. They have replaced celluloid ,spark plugs as well as coils. Although better it is dangerous to rapidly accelerate especially when changing lanes or pulling onto a highway because it loses power.
I’m a single mother driving a 2016 Ford F-150, my only vehicle, while transporting small children daily. I’ve been experiencing sudden, violent shaking and unexpected downshifting while driving, especially at highway speeds. On more than one occasion, it has felt like the rear wheels try to lock, causing the entire truck to jolt and decelerate rapidly, putting my safety and the safety of my children at serious risk. I’ve taken the truck to the dealership and multiple independent mechanics, but no one can diagnose the issue because no error codes appear related to the transmission or shifting. The only code that comes up is for a faulty catalytic converter, but both catalytic converters have already been replaced. The dealership confirmed that the check engine light keeps coming on anyway, even though there’s no actual issue with the new parts. They said it’s as if the system is being triggered by something else, but they don’t know what. I was relieved to learn that NHTSA is investigating this exact issue in 2015–2017 F-150 models, because what I’m experiencing matches it exactly. I depend on this truck for everything, school drop-offs, groceries, and survival, and I have no backup vehicle. I am asking NHTSA to prioritize this investigation and take action. This is not just a transmission defect, it’s a public safety threat, and families like mine are being forced to drive dangerous vehicles simply because there’s no help yet. Please step in and hold Ford accountable before someone gets seriously hurt.
Rear window spontaneously shattered in driveway. Approximately 30 degrees outside temperature, vehicle was started, rear defrost engaged, driven approximately 1/2 block to another driveway. When leaving driveway to enter roadway, rear window shattered with a loud pop. No internal or external impact to the rear window to cause the glass to shatter. No other cars, people, work equipment, mowers, etc were present. My safety was impacted by the startling, loud noise, glass shards exploding into the cab, visibility was greatly impacted and sub-freezing temperatures were now free to enter the cab with no ability to sustain safe cabin temperature. I am having the glass inspected and replaced. No police involved Insurance deductible is higher than replacement cost so they are not involved. There were no warning lights or any sign of symptoms prior to the glass explosion. A quick google search would indicate this is a common and dangerous problem. This is clearly a defect in either the glass itself or the rear defrost system. There should be a safety recall before people are hurt or killed by this defect.
Vehicle shuts off when in idle. Happens more often during a long drive. I have taken this vehicle to Firestone and a Ford Motor Company Service shop to have it repaired. Mechanics state that they are not able to replicate the issue and cannot do anything because the check engine light is not on. Considered about safety factors of vehicle shutting off when making a left turn and being hit by on coming traffic. Has been occurring for last 15,000 miles.
Factory installed Lugnuts cannot be removed for tire rotation during a scheduled oil change service at Preston Ford in Aberdeen Maryland reason given is that the Lugnuts had swollen and a lug wrench could not fit over them had to buy all new Lugnuts. I feel Ford should be aware of this because it is a safety concern if you have a flat tire and try to loosen the lug nuts, the lug nut wrench Will not fit over the lug nut posing a possible dangerous situation, especially if you’re in a remote location service Was performed on 26 January 2023 Lugnuts installed February 1, 2023 at Preston Ford Aberdeen Maryland. I do have a Ford issued case number [XXX]. I am asking Ford to recall these Lugnuts, and credit me for the price of a standard set of Lugnuts and labor required to install them. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, there was a knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed. 1/26/2023 front left brake line failed resulting in minimal stopping ability and loss of brake fluid. Right side brake line was inspected and replaced with a bulge in the line. Greatly reduced ability to stop, used extreme caution to immediately drive to repair service shop. Photos provided by the service shop that made the repair. They replaced both front brake lines and refiled the brake fluid and bleed the brake lines. No inspection by manufacture, police, or insurance. Failure did not result in accident but certainly compromised safety due to reduced stopping ability. No symptoms leading up to the time of failure. Upon the brake line failure, the brake indicator light came on and warning of low brake fluid. Truck is currently being repaired at time of reporting so the final invoice is not availble yet.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while reversing at approximately 2 MPH and then attempting to shift into drive, there was an abnormal clicking sound heard. The contact that the "wrench" symbol illuminated, and the vehicle would not move forward. The contact stated that the RPM’s increased while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact shifted back to park(P) and became aware the shift indicator was inoperable. The vehicle was turned off and the contact needed three attempts to restart the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed and determined that the molded leadframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to Ford Customer Satisfaction Program: 19N01 (Transmission Molded Leadframe). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
I was cruising on the highway normal speed them out of nowhere, my engine lost power and then a hill decent fault warning popped up. I pulled over then when I came to a complete stop my truck was shaking like if it had a misfire. So then I turned it off then back on. It turned back on on the first try but it struggled. When it turned on everything went away like nothing happen. Warning lights and the shaking went away.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the intake manifold needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an intake manifold replacement was needed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
There is a strong smell of electrical wires burning and occasionally a little smoke comes out from under the hood. I try and look for the problem but no luck in finding it. I know that there was a recall on Ford F150 about wiring from a heater block or something too close to the engine causing the wires to melt together.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the air bags inadvertently deployed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed and the cause of the failure was determined to be water intrusion. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that a month before the failure occurred, he smelled an abnormal odor inside the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH and ascending a hill, and while hauling a trailer, the vehicle would lose motive power. The contact stated while depressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle slowly responded. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the intake manifold needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the mechanic had retrieved DTC Code: P2005. The contact stated that the mechanic verified with the dealer that intake manifolds were on a national backorder. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that there was water leaking from the engine compartment into the driver's and passenger's side front floorboards. The dealer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
Lug nuts were swolen and auto shop recommended replacement by a certified mechanic. We were told by a certified mechanic swolen lug nuts can snap off putting pressure on the other lug nuts. Worst case is all the lug nuts snap and you lose a tire while driving. The other scenario is the lug nuts are so swolen, they would not be removable during repairs of a flat tire on the road. Both scenarios are a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving various speeds, he heard an abnormal whistling sound coming from the vehicle. One day upon exiting and returning to the vehicle, the contact's girlfriend had passed out in the back seat. Upon approaching the passenger’s side to wake her up, the contact smelled carbon monoxide odor coming from her side of the vehicle. The contact’s girlfriend did not seek medical attention after becoming unconscious. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that bolts on the exhaust manifold were improperly placed, causing the bolts to shear off, leading to a carbon monoxide leaking into the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the VIN. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and acknowledged that they were aware of the failure however, there was no recall for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
My vehicle started making a rattling noise I took it to a ford dealership and they said the can phasers need to be replaced i saw online that there was a recalled for the 2017-2019 models that were made between march 10th 2016 to November 30th 2019 my specific vehicle was made in the Dearborn factory where the issue was recalled march 9th of 2016 and I think that my year and model should also be under the recall because I don’t find it coincidental that my truck was built in the factory the day before the recall date and is having they same exact issue as the same make and models.
While driving vehicle under normal conditions, a yellow wrench appeared on dashboard and truck went into a “limp” mode like state; gear shifts were no longer illuminated and felt as though the truck was in neutral; after a few minutes the wrench light will disappear and vehicle will drive normally. This happens at least once every hour or so.
While driving vehicle jerked and engine shut off. Gas pedal was unresponsive. Flashed engine too hot and hill start assist disabled. Brought vehicle to a stop and engine idled rough before it stopped restarted vehicle ran in limp mode for approximately 5 minutes before I restarted again. No check engine codes to help diagnose. After second restart truck runs as if nothing happened. This has happened twice now with kids in the vehicle. Not safe while driving down a state highway.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked abnormally while downshifting. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but failure became a regular occurrence. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that there was a yellow wrench displayed on the instrument panel and that the vehicle went into Limp Mode. The contact stated that the failure was self-corrected shortly afterward. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the transmission had failed. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V188000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,453.
Transmission locks up and loses power. Took to dealership last fall. They said it was celluloid in transmission paid over 1k to repair and to this day still causes constant safety problem.
Driving home form work I started getting an exhaust smell, kept driving and once I came to a complete stop at a light my entire cabin filled with exhaust white/blue smoke. I pulled over to check it out, opened the hood and the exhaust was coming from the back of the engine. A wrecker driver pulled up behind my truck, got out with his fire extinguisher for safety. He is the one who told me to look into the manifolds warping or the bolts breaking. The wrecker driver said the smoke in the cabin is carbon monoxide and not to transport and small children. The rest of the day, I had severe headaches. I took it to a shop and they have told me I will need new manifolds and gaskets and potentially a few other gaskets when removing the turbos. They also said this could have damaged my turbos and may lead to other exhaust issues, vehicle performance issues and definitely will not let my vehicle pass the emissions test in Texas. This appears to be a Ford design flaw and hopefully a nation wide recall can be implemented. The shop also recommended not to drive it because the cabin filled with smoke or rather a cabin full of carbon monoxide. This could cost me over $5000.00 to replace all part. Something needs to be done by FORD to fix this issue. I will have to find a way to pay for this as having a vehicle to and from work is necessary. My daily round trip to and from work is 80 miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control feature activated, the power train warning light illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated independently. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the output speed sensor had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the parts were not available. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,800.
The vehicle has the same Lead Frame assembly as 2011-2013 Ford F-150's that were involved in a recall. I have had a failure to start, as well as a change in gears while driving at low speeds due to this faulty module. This caused an engine over-rev condition. I have attempted to contact Ford about this but stated they would only replace it under an extended warranty if forced by your organization.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a service appointment. The contact was informed by the dealer that he had heard an unusual whistling sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was diagnosed with a warped manifold and fractured studs on each side of the manifold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
Hill Start Assist Not Available is the associated light. Component replacement: Throttle Body Assembly. I was driving down the road and vehicle caution light came on above, in addition it caused me to have zero throttle pedal control. This occurred out of nowhere and I needed to glide into and off the road to luckily a pull off area. I shut off the truck, and restarted light went away. I thought it was a fluke. I continued and a mile later same exact issue, light came on, and I was going down a hill with no throttle control only brake and steering control, all the while passing vehicles and pulling over by a busy intersection with multiple lanes. I then pulled over and had to have my vehicle towed costing me $320. On top of placing myself at complete risk, if there wasn’t a spot to pull over to, and/or I was going up hill, this would have caused a crash with other motorists and needs immediately fixed. On top of the tow bill, I had to pay $271 for throttle body assembly and associated gasket. This on top of diagnostics $90 and labor associated. I have watched YouTube videos of others having the hill start issues, but this issue occurred out of nowhere and occurred frequently and on the road. Truck has around 125,000, never been involved with a crash of any sort, and this issue should be recalled. I request a refund at the very least from Ford for part and labor and I strongly feel this is the least they should do for putting my life at risk.
On the morning of 12/16/22 while commuting to work, the rear window randomly shattered (an extremely loud bang). It almost looks like it exploded from the inside out (bulging out). There was no apparent contact by rocks or any known previous cracks or chips in the window. It was a cold morning, and the defrosters were on (rarely used in Louisiana)- that's the only thing unusual related to the rear window going on at the time.
This report is for a k own recall for “unintended tailgate release”. This report s Ford’s recall 21M06. The recall has been made. For reports estimated time to complete of 1/2 day. Dealership reports that the “fix” will require 158 steps and at least one week. The dealership says that Ford will not pay for car rental during the 7-10 business day repair period. There is no incentive to repair this at a high cost (the car rental) to the end customer. This has previously been reported as ODI#11502257—request #590798. I simply want to supplement the previous report by clarifying that there already is a recall in place; but a with a major differences in view of Ford vs. dealership as to the time-to-complete. Under the expectation of 7-10 days to fix, Ford should pay for car rental. I corresponded with Ford about this on December 12, 2022 but Ford has not responded at all.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 50-55 MPH, the vehicle downshifted to first gear, then drove as designed. The failure recurred twice more. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights started blinking. Additionally, the tachometer was flickering from red to white. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed with an unknown wiring harness failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure, but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 45,478.
I have had two problems worked on by my dealer and neither of them were fixed. The first problem is a leaky oil pan which they attempted to repair the leak 3 times but it still leaks. This may not be a safety recall but I do feel like it is a hazard and I would bet there are probably 1/2 of the 2015-2017 Ford F150 owners with the 2.7 engine with the same problem. If nothing else I would say this is a environmental issue. The second problem I have reported to my dealer is the very poor vision with the back up camera at night. I had to leave my vehicle with the dealer overnight to have the problem looked at but they were not able to fix the problem and did say the night vision is not good.
While driving at speed 55+\- mph the truck shifted into “limp in mode” causing a quick deceleration event. This happened on two different occasions. The 3rd time it happened I was slowing to pull into a filling station so the deceleration wasn’t as harsh. All times when this happened the “wrench” warning light came on after 10 or so seconds and the truck was back to running normal. The 3rd occurance at the filling station left me dead in the water, had to have AAA tow me to New Legacy Ford in Dushore Pa 18614. If the roads would have been wet an accident would possibly have occurred.
On 4 occasions the tailgate has unlatched itself while the truck was being driven
Back window shattered as a result of a rear defrost malfunction. Outside temperatures were around 20 degrees F so I used my remote start to warm up my vehicle before leaving. Upon entering the vehicle approximately 5-7 minutes later I noticed an odd smell that I can only describe as electronics overheating or burning. Then about 5 minutes into my drive on a smooth road and without any other incident I experienced a very loud popping noise and immediately pulled over to investigate. What I noticed right away was that the entire back window (with the exception of the small power window) was shattered and was starting to fall into my vehicle. When calling for a quote to replace my window, two of the shops both indicated that this is a know problem with Ford F150's due to the rear defroster malfunctioning. I have a crew cab F150 and regularly use it to transport my 3 young children, and luckily they were not with me on this trip, but I am very worried that this could have resulted in shards of glass right by their heads where they are sitting. Other than the odd smell I noticed that day, there were no messages or symptoms of this problem. I live in a cold climate and often use the remote start without any similar issues.
Over a year ago Ford announced a recall because of unintended back tailgate release. At that time there was no solution. In December 2022 Ford announced a solution, and requested owners to schedule an appointment for a fix that would take no longer than 1/2 day. The tail gate has indeed opened unintended 4 times, including once on CO Hwy 285; presenting a serious hazard as I lost half the load on a winding mountain road. When I attempted to schedule an appointment at Auto Nation Ford to fix, they could not get me scheduled until March 14, 2023, that the repair would take at least one week because of 158 steps involved. I was also told that Ford would not cover the cost of a rental vehicle while the F-150 is in for repair. I sent a letter to Ford (available on request) over a month ago, but I have received no response. This is a major safety issue. I have also had damage to the tailgate caused by unintended release in the garage. Gone unnoticed until I opened the garage door. By unknowingly opening the garage door I have scraped the tailgate. Ford is clueless. Their dealers have no campaign code as they call it. When they research the campaign number given in the recall notice, they don’t want to have anything to do with it. I’ve asked Ford to find a dealer that will fix the vehicle during the prescribed timeframe to no avail. I have asked Ford for relief by finding a Dealer to fix under recall warranty and to pay for vehicle rental during the elongated repair period.
Both Exhaust manifolds warped, broken rear exhaust studs, exhaust leaking into passenger compartment. This is a known issue with this engine and ford has a TSB for the transit with the same engine to replace the manifolds with a newer version.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle would not properly accelerate. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The check engine and the transmission warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to safely drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the catalytic converter and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The exhaust manifold have warped,up due to lack of bolting down properly from the factory, and it is a known fact there are many other vehicles with the eco-boost that are having the same problem as I am 3.5
Rear Differential pinion ring broke with only 70000 miles on vehicle. Inspected and replaced by dealerships.
Truck misfired at intersection. Had to restart. Happens often after oil change with couple hundred miles on. Truck has been in repair shop once already for same issue from previous owner. Bank 2 IACV selonoid.
Passenger door fails to latch
