The throttle body control failed which caused the vehicle to have no power just idle. It failed at a time when I wasn’t in a dangerous spot it failed in my neighborhood. But it makes the vehicle with no power when pushing on the gas. Talked to dealer and they said yes they can just go out like a light bulb. If I was making a turn or merging into traffic it would have been extremely dangerous. Searching online this seems to be a common problem with these suddenly going out.
Truck exhibits an intermittent lack of engine RPM when coming to a stop while towing. Engine actually dies at stop sign upon exiting interstate. will start and die repeatably until accelerator is depressed slightly, and RPMs are kept to 1,000 or more. Was not a serious problem until I got caught in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I25 north out of Denver. I could only operate with left foot braking and right foot keeping RPM above 1K. Three days at dealer with no luck. I have discovered TSB 18-2249 and 22-2264 that addresses problem to 2018 and 2019 but no mention about my 2016 F150 2.7L.
The master cylinder. About August of 2021 I noticed that when I tried to brake, the pedal would lose pressure and I would start rolling until I applied more pressure. Eventually it got to the point where the pedal would go to the floor. I replaced the master cylinder and everything worked perfectly until again August of 2022. This time I had to warning of gradually losing pressure in the brake pedal. I was coming onto a feeder road off the highway and tried to slow down but noticed there was no pressure on the brake pedal. Thankfully in both cases no accidents occurred but not having brakes work properly is incredibly dangerous. I replaced the master cylinder again and it is working fine for now. I noticed the 3.5l has the recall but my truck is 2.7l but I'm having the exact same issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the driver's and passenger's side front tires were previously rotated and replaced twice; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the front-end of the vehicle caused the driver's and passenger's side front tires to wear out prematurely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's and passenger's side front tires needed an alignment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The brake pedal loses pressure when applied . If applied for an extended period ( stopping at a red light ) the pedal will reach the floor . This can cause a serious accident . There have been 2 recalls addressing this problem but my vehicle was not listed in the either recall ( 20S31 & 22S11 ). My vehicle was built in Kansas in July 2016. Recall # 20S31 was issued for vehicles built Aug.1st. 2013 thru Aug. 31 2014. Recall 22S11 was issued for vehicles built Aug. 2 2016 thru Jan. 31 2017. There seems to be an on-going problem for this time period .
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal amount of blueish smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact became aware that there was an excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the turbo; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure with an unknown Technical Service Bulletin; however, the vehicle was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Intermittently, when using my adaptive cruise control at freeway speeds, the breaks are suddenly applied hard when there is no car in front of me. It has happened several times. So far, it hasn't caused any loss of control, but it does cause cars behind me to slam on their brakes. It generally would slow the car 30-40 mph suddenly, without warning. The date and mileage I am showing below is the last time it happened. It has been happening since the vehicle was new in 2016, but without being able to recreate the problem for the dealer, I didn't notify them. But the situation is getting worse and seems to be happening more often. Also, in separate incidents, the crash warning lights flash on when there is no danger of crashing.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, the brake pedal went to the floorboard while depressed. The vehicle failed to stop immediately rear-ending another vehicle. No air bags deployed. The contact sustained injuries to his neck and back but did not receive medical attention. A police report was filed. Additionally, the contact stated the vehicle consumed an excessive amount of oil and the key fob failed to function as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The cylinder heads failed at 56,000 miles, causing the vehicle to violently jerk forward and backward on the highway at 75mph, the safety of myself, my family, semi-trucks and other passenger vehicles were at risk due to unexpected jerking at such high speeds. The Cylinder head failure, then caused the engine to need replacement. This was all sudden and unexpected. The manufacturer has a TSB for this problem, making it a known defect, but they never fixed it under warranty and are now attempting to charge $10,600 for the repair. The CEL did come on, but only after the failure began.
The F-150 was involved in a car crash. It hit a street sign, an electrical pole and then a tree. The front bumper is split and insurance just devalued it a total loss. I am hereby reaching out to you, to let you know that none of the airbags in the truck went off. I have picture that I can provide to further confirm!
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the steering wheel aggressively started jerking to the right. The contact had to exert an excessive amount of force to steer the vehicle. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted and the steering wheel functioned temporarily before the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH and exiting the highway, the transmission erroneously downshifted causing the vehicle to abruptly decelerate with the check engine warning light illuminated. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally however, the failure reoccurred and the vehicle stalled and would not immediately restart. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cables, the vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed a transmission software update but the failure persisted along with several additional electrical failures. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission leadframe was faulty and needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,800.
The transmission is malfunctioning. The vehicle loses power, and can not accelerate or maintain speed while driving. I have had to pull over on expressways multiple times to shut vehicles off to reset the issues. The vehicle has been inspected by a Mechanic and determined the P0722 Output Sensor is bad. Also, report error code P061A. I have spoken with and attempted to schedule appointments with two different Ford Dealerships that have stated the part is not available and they will not/can not schedule an appointment to repair the issue. This is a recurring issue.
Rear window spontaneously exploded on July 8th around 11:00am. My truck was parked and not driven for two days. The rear window exploded and shattered. The glass was everywhere, In the truck bed and all over the cab. The seats and carpet have shards of glass embedded in them. I called Tom Masano Ford in Shillington PA. Spoke to Lydia a service advisor. She told me that Ford would not cover the repair/replacement of the rear window. She stated that Ford would not take any responsibility for this safety issue. There was no warning lamps, messages, ect prior to the window exploding. We have an appointment at Tom Masano Ford on Monday July 18th.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was unable to downshift into first gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with lead frame failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,100.
2016 Ford 150 6R80 auto transmission. I was driving downhill on a paved county road coming to a stop. Pulled onto 2 lane highway, accelerated, then tranmission hard down shifted unexpectedly to limp mode. Engine ran in high idle and would not shift up. Wrench light lit up. I'm lucky nobody was coming up behind me or I wouldn't be here to submit this! The dealer was relatively close, so I went directly, and slowly, there. Dealer pulled codes P0706, P0707, P0720, P0722, P1921, P1702, P0722. They confirmed it was a faulty molded lead frame. Dealer was not able to get transmission to shift, and then it wouldn't start at all. $1300 repair. This happened July 6. Part is not available till Aug 30????!!!! I'm a carpenter. This truck is my living! Thank God this didn't happen at full highway speed like it has to others. This problem was a recall in 2011-2013 models. How is this not a safety recall now? This is dangerous! Get your stuff together, Ford! The contact stated it doesn’t appear they are including enough model years to resolve the issue fully.
The contact's wife owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerk and hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. In addition, the contact stated that the transmission unexpectedly downshifted with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics and the spark plugs, sensor coils, and other various engine parts were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Vehicle shudders and stalls occasionally especially after a period of driving.
Exhaust manifolds warped and leaking. Occupants are exposed to harmful emissions.
I was driving on the freeway 50-60 mph ,my transmission downshifted suddenly, my rear tires locked up, causing my truck to slow down violently. I looked at my dash and the shift indicator was flashing. I had a wrench appear on my dash two days earlier and called my local Ford dealer for maintenance and was given an appointment in about a week , I was told that wrench could mean 400 things. I made my appointment the following wednesday and was told the lead frame connector was faulty and the part would be ordered. One month later still no part or repair. I was told it would be covered under my extended warranty I had purchased from Ford.
My 2016 Ford F-150 will periodically stall. The stall could occur while stopped (at a light or to make turn), while in park and only idling, or when the vehicle was in motion at less than 25 mph. If it stalled while starting a turn, then there was a serious risk of major collision from oncoming traffic. If the oncoming vehicle did not recognized the vehicle was stalling, or had otherwise failed to properly evaluate the situation early enough then a collision would be likely. A scan of multiple Internet web sites found thousands of people, with similar model years and the same engine, 5.0L Coyote, having the same or similar issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 55-60 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact turned off the vehicle and restarted the vehicle after a while. The contact continued driving; however, the failure recurred several times while driving. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where unknown repairs were performed. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 20 MPH on a slight incline and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The message "Hill Assist Not Working" was displayed. The contact stated that she reversed at 3 MPH to her residence. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving on a level road. The contact veered to the side of the road and shifted into Sport(S) mode, and was able to drive 30-35 MPH. The vehicle was taken to Rocky Mountain Yeti Pinedale Jeep RAM (153 S Entertainment Ln, Pinedale, WY 82941), where it was diagnosed that the throttle body had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to disengage and remained on slow intermittent mode. The dealer reset the windshield wipers setting; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer informed the contact that the recall repair could be completed in six months. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
On the 2016 F150 - the first time it occurred I was driving on the interstate at 70 mph and all of a sudden the truck down shifted from 6th to 5th causing a slight lurch. Later it would not down shift from 3RD down. Causing the truck to start in third gear. I took to a repair shop and they indicated that it needed part #AL3Z7G276D, a “connector” for the transmission and that it was not safe to drive. They stated that at any rate of speed it could suddenly down shift to 1st. Ford is the only place to get this part and they refuse to send it unless it is at one of their dealerships. The dealership has had the part on order for a month with no hope in sight because they refuse to complete the extra paperwork to get the part. So now I have a truck that is unsafe to drive with Fords unwillingness to ship The part. The dealership has told me that this has been a common issue on this transmission - was recalled on the 12-13 models and should be extended to other years.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the PCM warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and the contact was informed that the lead frame needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the lead frame is needing to be replaced because it was not insulated.
I recently took my truck in for a recall repair. They took care of the recall problem but was also suppose to look at the rattling (chirping) noise coming from front driver side wheel well. Cant remember mileage on truck when that was fixed. But im almost sure it was b4 80k was reached. My question is im doin research and there is a problem that ford is suppose to repair this issue if stated b4 80k miles or 10 yrs. Im just now seeing this and ive just surpassed 80k miles. Well they had said there were no issues. It was a ford thing. So i figured they knew whats best. Well. Id like my truck fixed if still possible because it is an emission issue. What can b done. Thank you
lug nuts swell and could not fit wrench on lug nuts to remove tire for a roadside emergency
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the brake warning light and low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he pumped the brake pedal aggressively several times and the brake pedal traveled to the floor before the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake fluid was leaking into the brake booster. The mechanic stated that the failure was similar to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were both contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was 87,000.
Sensors inside transmission shorted out and would cause forced down shifting at highway speed and tires to break traction on wet roads. Dealer stated this issue was recalled on most similar transmissions, but not on the F150. Engine went into limp mode constantly and transmission seemed to want to lock up. A wrench error code was on dash display. Symptoms started in June 2022 and repairs we made July 28, 2022 after a 3 to 4 week wait for replacement parts. Again, dealer informed me of TSB put out for most other vehicles with the same transmission. $1200.00 repair
Component/System: Automatic transmission. Yes, the failed transmission components are possible but not likely available for inspection upon request contingent on the repair shop not having scrapped them. I’ve had two transmission rebuilds due to repeated failures. Safety Risk: The vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to a lower gear at highway speeds without warning, causing sudden deceleration. Also, at red lights causing jolting or delayed acceleration. This put my safety and others at serious risk of rear-end collisions or loss of vehicle control, especially during high-speed driving, in addition to other things. Confirmed by Service: Yes, the issue was diagnosed and confirmed by two independent repair shops. Each diagnosed severe internal transmission failure consistent with sudden mechanical shock. The failure of the transmission had codes displayed indicating such, and I have a print out from the mechanic prior to the rebuild as I wanted to confirm it was not any other issue before rebuilding. Inspections: The state of New Jersey has not inspected this vehicle. Warning Signs: There were no dashboard warning lights, error messages, or audible alerts prior to the failure that reasonably could have been linked to such event(s). The first rebuild occurred in early 2023, and similar failures repeated despite full rebuilds. No advance indication was ever given before the vehicle downshifted. Second rebuild was in the Fall of 2023. In prior instances to rebuilds, there were wrench light warning alerts indicated on dashboard, however they made no sense and clicking OK dismissed them with no re-alert or info pertaining to such. When this did occur, and since nothing could be linked to it in the average drivers head, it was assumed an accidental notification.
Lug nuts swelled to the point they had to be replaced
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V894000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the speed abruptly decreased. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. During the failure, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact indicated that a diagnostic test indicated the failure was due to a stuck throttle body. The vehicle was not examined by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 124,000.
No engine light or warnings. At vehicle start up there is a loud ratteling sound. The variable valve timing system is causing due to the cam phasers being faulty. This is a known issue and some models have recalls but mine is not listed leading to around a $3600 repair on a vehicle that only has 60k miles.
Swollen lug nuts could break off causing extremely unsafe hazardous driving conditions.
The problem that is happening to my vehicle and other 2016 F150s is Galvanic corrosion on the transfer case and transmission housing that is causing the housings to leak fluid and can cause catastrophic failure of either the transfer case or transmission. The Galvanic corrosion is happening due to non-coated steel fasteners being used on an aluminum housing. Which is not industry standard. See article below posted on SAE.org This vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This corrosion has caused a leak in the transfer case and could cause failure of the transfer case and/or the transmission which could in turn cause severe bodily and property damage if this occurred while operating the vehicle at highway speeds. The problem is being reproduced on all 2016 F150s that share the same non coated fasteners. See links for examples of the problem happening to other owners: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/transfer-case-corrosion-leakage-505822/ https://www.f150ecoboost.net/threads/transfer-case-corrosion.84551/ This component has not yet been inspected. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior. The SAE has an article on this topic and how manufactures should prevent galvanic corrosion. See link below: https://www.sae.org/publications/technical-papers/content/932357/#:~:text=Although%20aluminum%20on%20its%20own,can%20lead%20to%20severe%20corrosion. That article was written in 1993. Ford should not have sold a vehicle that had components that would absolutely fail and knowing it could be prevented. Thank you for your time I hope we can help all the owners that are experiencing these problem and we can help avoid people from being injured by getting ford to recall this defection.
We discovered water in the glove compartment after rain. The passengers identified headliner has clearly had water issues prior to our purchase of this vehicle used. We applied silicone caulking to the top, passenger side windshield. After further rains, the water seems to be collecting under the dashboard and spills out when turns are made or velocity changes. Further silicone caulking of the windshield may be preventing leakage, but we are not fully assured of that.
Downshifting while I was driving happened without warning. Besides the gear switch, I noticed problems with the speedometer, erratic gear shifting, and the transmission stuck in one gear. I could have caused a major accident by the vehicle as I was at moderately high speed in motion when the vehicle began to fail. I did also bang my head on the steering wheel when the truck began to decelerate on its own! Mechanics told me it was a problem with the OOS (Output Speed Shaft Sensor). I could have got in a major accident had I not had a quick reaction to the truck automatically downshifting while at a high rate of speed. There is currently NO recalls for the 2016 F-150 model however, I did research and found that there are issues recalls for this VERY same problem for older F-150 models. This is an incredibly dangerous problem. My truck at this time only has 66,000 miles. Not very many miles on it for a 2016 to have this type of issue. Major research needed to get this resolved asap! People’s lives are at stake with this truck!
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact noticed an oil leak on the garage floor underneath the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the oil pan needed to be replaced. The oil pan was replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 29,741.
I was driving vehicle to work. Going approximately 70 mph, the truck suddenly lost the ability to accelerate and starts running very rough, like it lost a cylinder. Then the collision warning comes on the dash and advanced trac icon and then the manual icon with the wrench that says check manual. I coast down the hill from the far left lane to the slow lane and take the first exit off the freeway and pull to the side of road. Shut the vehicle off, wait 30 seconds, try again starts right up and acts like no problem. Happened three times since. Same thing every time
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH and towing a 5th wheel trailer, the vehicle lost motive power. The hill descent warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over off the highway safely. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
While driving, the transmission sticks or will not shift. A wrench flashes and has only produced a check engine light one time. Code P0715 - Irregular signal coming from the input/turbine speed sensor in transmission. If it does shift, it is hard and jerks the vehicle. This has only happened a few times while driving but I found a Ford TSB for earlier models (2011-2013) having the same issue.
Rear windshield shattered and exploded from inside cab to out Got into truck to drive got on road about 20 mph. Nothing around. And all of sudden out of no where rear windshield popped and started shattering. I tried to take pictures. I’ll take more in morning. The hole his pushing outward towards the bed. 2016. F150 sport. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Service Advance Trac System and Hill Assist fault messages were displayed, causing the vehicle to go into LIMP Mode. The failure nearly caused a crash. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, no error codes were retrieved. The mechanic replaced the wheel hubs, ABS sensor, TCM, and several other unknown parts; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer confirmed that there was no recall associated with the VIN and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Brake fluid leak.brakes quit working immediately while on freeway causing us to zig zag to avoid crashing with other vehicles!
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH and coming to a traffic sign, the contact depressed the brake pedal and felt the brake pedal go the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle lost braking functionality. The contact engaged the parking brake and the vehicle came to a stop. The contact stated that he placed the vehicle in neutral and observed that the "check brake" and "low brake fluid" warning lights were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle back to his residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the software needed to be reprogrammed. The contact learned of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V151000 (Back Over Prevention) however, neither the VIN nor the year, make, or model was included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
Transmission shifts hard or may shift up or down when it shouldn’t. Get warning message in dash. Took to dealer a couple months ago . Was told part was back ordered and didn’t know when they would get it. My research online indicates this is a common problem. I believe this is a safety issue that could cause an accident.
Vehicle transmission/drive train shifted into neutral and dash flashed Service AdvanceTrac & Hill Decent Control Fault warnings while traveling on highway at 70 MPH towing trailer. No advanced warning of issue or warning of power loss. Transmission shift controls had no control of power train. Engine appeared to go into idle mode. This system fault placed the safety of vehicle driver, passengers and nearby vehicles at high risk. Luckily vehicle was topping a rise and gravity maintained speed to coast to shoulder of busy highway. And there was a shoulder on the highway. Turned off vehicle, restarted and appears to be operating normally. Waiting for dealer service to diagnose vehicle.
