The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the transmission warning light was intermittently flashing on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the transmission unexpectedly downshifted while driving at various speeds. In addition, the vehicle occasionally shut off while driving, with the "Transmission not in Park" message displayed on the instrument panel, while the gear shifter was in park(P). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was discovered that the molded lead frame had caused the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and stated that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
unexpected downshifts to lower gears at highway speeds which leads to temporary rear wheel lock-up, sudden deceleration, and sometimes loss of control.
Emergency/parking brake locks up on its own and causes the rear caliper to become extremely hot and causes poor breaking performance.
My husband and I would like to file a complaint about our truck. Our truck transmission shifts down with NO reason and at random times. We have asked our car lot, (Oak Motors, Indianapolis) shop about this at the time of purchase and we were told it is a sealed unit so there is nothing they could do. We have had this truck over a year and this shifting has become more erratic at any speed and it scares me while driving. Now I hear about the investigation and honestly this truck is a safety risk. It causes GREAT anxiety to drive!! Not to mention the added stress and wear on u joints and the rear differential. This truck has not caused an accident yet but one is bound to happen.
The truck starts up everything fine and then a few minutes later comes up with the wrench and bogs down the truck like they can’t get up and gearing I would have to shut it off a couple different times for it to work good again and sometimes it does it while you’re driving down the road
These vehicles with the 5.0L engines have a problem with cam phaser timing which causes a rattle in the engine it also causes the engine to stall sometimes it causes the engine to stutter, in my forum I have saw this complaint from guys with vehicles ranging from 2015 up to 2019, this is a problem Ford knows about but haven't done anything about it, they have since developed a new cam phaser timing set but, they didn't not do a recall on this, this is a problem that occurs several times a week.
While driving 35-40mph, transmission downshifted to a low gear and locked up rear wheels. This cause a loss of control for a moment. Check engine light came on, as well as wrench on dash. Engine cooling fans turned on high, and no indication of what gear was selected on the dash.
I have a 2017 F150 6 speed transmission. It shifts unexpectedly while driving
2016 Ford F-150 pickup has no backup camera or front camera. Resets have done nothing. Defective module, camera wiring or camera itself has to be defective. I heard the 2015 model Ford pickups have a recall associated with this problem.
Vehicle will suddenly downshift and has locked up the rear tires. Sometimes vehicle won't start because the P (park) light is not illuminated
Downshifted while driving- vehicle locked up temporarily
Vehicle suddenly downshifted on highway causing rapid deceleration. Vehicle was then limited to third gear (although dash did not indicate such) with tachometer limited to approximately 1500rpm. After resting for 2 days, vehicle suddenly ran like normal, with no logical explanation.
Transmission dropped from 6th gear to 4th at 75mph and almost locked my axle
My truck has locked up my rear wheels 2 times already as of this afternoon on my way home.It automatically goes from 3 gear or 4,5or 6th down to 1st gear causing me to almost get rear ended. It thrown codes and i have took it to local ford dealership and was charged to check it out only to be told it owe them 214.00 and it was gonna be 8000.00 to fix it since it was out of date.I have been told it is my leadframe part gone bad and will do this again. My wife has stopped letting my son ride in this truck until we can find 8000.00 to drive it safely. It's scary for me to drive it as I have found out it does this at random times.Ford dealership reset my codes but it did it again today. Its getting bad. What should I do.I have the repair invoice but it's at work as I write this up.But i have to drive my truck to get to work to pay for it!!!
2016 f150 3.5L eco boost V-6 was purchased recently from used dealership. Upon taking possession the vehicle would shut down while driving. I would need to get to the shoulder of road, put truck in park, turn off vehicle and then restart. It’s happened 20 times in last 30 days. I’ve taken to dealership 5x and they are unable to resolve, diagnose or offer any help. Online, many other owners have noted same issue. Doing 65 on fwy and truck suddenly dies is big deal! Ford does nothing. Error message on dash says something about stability track. When restarting engine, it turns over many times as if flooded but then starts.
I was driving on [XXX]. In brookefield ohio on [XXX] at approximately [XXX] headed into work. I was driving 60MPH to 65MPH and my 2016 ford f150 went from 6th gear to 1st gear and which locked my rear wheels. I was wearing a seat belt at the time. The date of filling this complaint is 03/24/2025 and has not happened since. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The failure mileage was 148,000.
When traveling at around 70-75 mph the vehicle will downshift to 5th gear and vehicle speed drops as well, without warning. This causes the vehicle to not want to excel until it comes to a complete stop or turns off and then turns back on.
When accelerating on the highway at approximately 55mph, I had a sudden downshift from 6th to 3rd gear that caused me to slow down unexpectedly and lose control, go off the roadway into the shoulder. I was driving at highway speeds and truck suddenly downshift to 2 gear and truck became slightly out of control. Gear shifter was not touched to cause this.
Driving at 65mph in 5th gear, unexpected downshift into 3rd gear causing vehicle to loose power, immediate decline in speed by 20 mph and no acceleration. Vehicles behind me were forced to slam on brakes to avoid collision. Vehicle had check engine as well as wrench pop up on dashboard when downshift occurred. Took vehicle to Ford Dealership for diagnosis and repair. Error code p0706, p0707,p1702,p1921. Recommend to replace, Molded lead frame with main control, gaskets, transmission filter, fluid. Total cost for repair $2979.54.
driving down the road and the transmission stopped driving at stop light, forced the gas pedal down, and finally kicked itself into gear to jerk the truck hard into another lane. had a horrible smell afterward
Transmision issue.. downshifts while driving. Then stuck in lower gear when accelerating. Need to come to a complete start.. Shift to Park.. then back to drive to clear. Feels very unsafe when it happens. Trouble codes confirm its a shifting issue. The wrench on the dashboard lights up momentarily.
Driving down the highway at a high rate of speed had to press on my brakes and the front passenger brake hose blew out. Severe brake fluid loss .
At fifty six thousand miles, I had to replace the frame on the sunroof and the drain hose. We're not draining like they were supposed to.This is a real problem with these trucks. And everybody is having the same problem. This needs to be a recall. They need to rework the sunroof and replace it

Driving 45mph vehicle down shifted. This has happened twice in the last two weeks.
Timing chain tensioner broke causing a complete engine blown while in the dealership’s possession.
Unexpected gear downshift accompanied by a temporary rear wheel lock-up. This occurs at highway speeds and has shifted from 6th gear to 2nd gear multiple times at 50+ mph. This causes substantial safety concerns to both those in the vehicle as well as other vehicles on the road in the immediate proximity. When this occurs speed is restricted suddenly/immediately by a reduction of 5-12 mph. This causes severe impact to passengers. At low speed the gears shift sporadically between all 6 gear ranges impacting drivability. The vehicle has been inspected several times by Corwin Ford however they clear the codes and 'can not replicate' which correlates to the dealership deeming it safe to operate. There were multiple warning lights/lamps, messages when delivered to the dealership. Those were then cleared prior to 'diagnostics' as that was 'their process'.
Dropped from 6th gear to 4th gear while going roughly 70 mph on the highway. It shot up in rpm and I was having trouble slowing down/braking.
Approximately a year ago I started having trouble with the shifting in my transmission. Had the fluid changed thinking this may be the problem. My engine light continued to stay on and has been on ever since. Periodically the truck will down shift or not shift into another gear without the rpms going above 3000.
The transmission downshifts from high gear to low gear and rearend locks up .
Passenger door will not latch and close on 2016 Ford F-150 after snow storm. While the vehicle was parked, the front passenger's side door latch failed to latch as intended. We discovered the issue when we were trying to leave our house during the extremely cold freezing weather. The door had to be manually held closed when traveling a short distance. We were able to get it latched to drive on the interstate to church, but then it failed to latch after coming out of church service, when we had to hold it closed manually for a short distance. We then had to use rope to keep the door shut by securing it to another door on the opposite side while traveling back on the interstate to get home. The truck has not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during a routine oil change visit, the mechanic observed condensation near the oil pan. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil pan and valve covers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the HVAC system was not functioning properly. Due to the failure, the contact was unable to activate the front windshield defroster. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the blend door actuator. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V726000 (Visibility), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. The failure caused the RPM to become elevated, and the exhaust fan activated without the engine overheating. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off and restart the vehicle to reset the system. The “WRENCH” and the message to “See Owner’s Manual” was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact used a personal diagnostic computer and retrieved DTC: P0715; for a failure of the input shaft speed sensor inside the transmission. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
happened a couple times within a week or so as the first time i was not sure what happened and there were no check engine lights but the second time i realized something was wrong and the check engine light was on. but while driving doing about 55-60 on my way home from work it happened and it seemed like the truck went from 6th gear to 1st throwing me forward and the dash went blank and then came back on after a split second and there was no response from the gas and then pedal was responding again. i pulled over and there were check engine lights on as well as the warnings for the cross traffic sensors. i then brought the truck into the local ford dealership and they said it was the valve body gone bad. they put in a new one and it wouldn't take programming so they put in a second one and i haven't had a problem since.
Oil pan leaked once before I bought the vechicle and once again at 90,000 miles and once again at 143,000 miles. Ford knows there is a problem related to the oil pan gasket and plastic oil pan. Ford upgraded the seal but it will still leak because the pan will get warped from the heat. On the ford forum multiple people have reported this as a problem as well.
Vehicle would get stuck in gear while driving, then randomly downshift harshly. Occurred in Feb 2025 and immediately brought in for service at 98730 miles. Service advancetrack, wrench light, and no hill start assist light illuminated on dash. Truck would go into limp mode. P0715:00-64 and P0717:00-6C codes were pulled at 1st mechanic shop. 1st shop did not work on transmissions and referred me to ford dealership. Dealership wasn’t able to reproduce hard shifting, but while test driving it went into limp mode with all previously mentioned lights on the dash again. Code P0717 was thrown again. Determined bad lead frame and needed replacement. Paid out of pocket for lead frame, pump adaptor, bulk head connector, and filter replacement. Problem has not occurred again since repair.
Occasionally on startup will hard shift then get stuck in 5th,3rd,or 1st gear and will move slowly upon accelerating. This will also happen when driving at different speeds.Cooling fan will also be running on high speed.Had lead frame and valve body replaced($2000) but within two weeks symptoms returned.Truck is now in dealer waiting for replacement transmission to come in($7000) Will add receipt when vehicle is returned.
