NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle in colder temperatures, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer for a routine engine oil change, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission experienced hard downshifts, causing the vehicle to jerk and abruptly decelerate. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving in different gears, and while driving at highway speeds or slower speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who reprogrammed the transmission control module, but the failure persisted. The mechanic later informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 95,000.
The transmission can behave erratically: Harsh shifting, jerking or lunging, occasional temporary loss of power, gear slipping, difficulty shifting gears, and unexpected movement while driving. I have already had the vehicle inspected and the transmission serviced, but the behavior continues at random times and is difficult to recreate on demand. This poses a potential safety threat to people in this vehicle and those nearby.
Transmission shifts hard and accelerates unexpectedly. Acceleration is not smooth as expected.
Back up camera stops working intermittently.
Unexpected downshift from 10th down to 1st gear then back to 10th.
The 10‑speed automatic transmission (10R80) in my 2019 Ford F‑150 failed prematurely at 71,972 miles. Prior to failure, the vehicle exhibited repeated harsh shifting, slipping between gears, delayed engagement, and occasional sudden jolts during acceleration. These symptoms occurred during normal driving and created unsafe conditions, especially when merging or crossing intersections. The transmission ultimately required a full replacement on 07/23/2025 at a cost of $8,400. This is a major drivetrain component that should not fail at this mileage under normal use. I later learned that many other owners have reported similar issues with the 10R80 transmission across multiple model years. This appears to be a widespread defect affecting safety, drivability, and reliability. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can investigate the pattern of premature failures and determine whether a recall or corrective action is warranted.
I drive a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L engine and 10 speed transmission. I have received a warning for low fuel pressure, trouble starting, and the truck has cut off once after turning over. It never fails to crank, however, it may take 5 or so seconds of cranking to get it to start. I have had the check engine light come on one time over the last couple of months of the issues starting; the code it showed was a P00C6. I have not brought the vehicle in for service as it just started a couple months ago when it got hot outside and there was a recent recall that did not include this VIN but matches the issue exactly. The warning states to not drive the vehicle and to get it towed if fuel is not low. The recall states there is not a current fix for the issue and I need my vehicle. This is a daily problem, mostly after the vehicle sits for a couple of hours. I am also having an issue with the cam phaser rattle upon startup and rattling while driving. I have noticed some power reduction and it has progressively gotten worse over time. I am at 135,000 miles currently and have experienced this issue for the last 50,000 miles or so.
Transmission failure causing downshifts at highway speeds to 1st gear and neutral. Random shifting issues causing vehicle jerking and loss of power to the wheels. Safety of all passengers at risk when merging onto highways into traffic at speed. Unable to safely get to highway speeds without power loss or sudden rough jerking. Problem was reproduced by dealer and 3rd party service shop Manufacturer refused to look into the issue, only recommended full replacement at $10,000 of the owners expense and did not guarantee the issue will go away without a warranty. Signs found 20K miles earlier, manufacturer called them "normal symptoms" and shouldn't need to be looked at.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, while at a stoplight, the vehicle jerked abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and agreed to cover a part of the cost for the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 58,800.
Transmission shifting to random gears roughly. Driving on highway and went from 7-8 then down to 1 then back to 9 and lost power ON THE HIGHWAY. Came back and was able to pull of to the side but this transmission has been rough for a while now but today became a major safety problem..
Wipers quite intermittently in rain or when using windshield washer Could not see clearly Problem intermittent dealer said wiper motor Yes No warning just quit Problem same as in recall NHTSA22v-142 on f150 2021 and 2022 and recall 22v842
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 94,584.
Transmission started slipping at 100,000. and needed to be replaced shortly after.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while at a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked forward before resuming normal operation. The contact also stated that while driving at moderate speeds, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted before violently jerking forward as if the vehicle had been rear-ended. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to a dealer to be repaired. The contact was advised to retain the copies of the receipts in the event of a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
Failure of the timing chain started as a rattle on a cold start. I contacted the dealership, and they indicated that all 2019 EcoBoosts need to have cam phasers and timing chain replaced, or they can cause major engine failure.
At freeway speeds, truck suddenly started shifting into random gears. It was cruising in 10th gear at about 65-70mph, with trailer in tow, driving normally and fine. Truck started shifted randomly, slipping gears, and going out of gear completely causing power loss. Transmission would then attempt to shift back into gear, all on its own. It would go into 5th through 10 all while slipping back out of gear in between. Some of the down shifts were sudden, and caused me to concentrate to keep the truck and trailer in control. After a few minutes of this, smoke appeared out the back, quite a deal of smoke. It wasn't long until the transmission temperature guage started reading high (but not warning or critical). Then the check engine like came on with "powertrain error". I was able to pull off the freeway, but under duress as it was very busy, and the smoke caused another motorist to pull over and see if I was on fire. It appeared the transmission fluid was "venting" and spraying on the exhaust, and after pulling over it luckily stopped, otherwise I'm sure that oil would have caught fire shortly.
While driving in Texas the transmission of my vehicle started to act up. While going up a hill the transmission came out of gear and would not go which almost caused an accident. The transmission is the Ford 10R80 which has had several safety issues. A recall needs to be issued by Ford to fix the issue at Ford's expense. This will cause a serious accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to switch gears, the transmission slipped. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,646.
Transmission has erratic behavior. Several times it would not downshift or would hunt for a proper gear with the 10 speed automatic transmission at intersections and when making turns with oncoming traffic. Very dangerous. I have decided to park it. Dealer said it needs transmission replacement.
On [XXX] with an empty vehicle besides I myself the driver, going south bound on [XXX] just north of twin falls Idaho I had cruise control set to 81 MPH when I felt a slow to the vehicle then noticed an uncontrolled/unprompted shift and loss of power indicated on the dash cluster jumping from 10-9-7-10-5-3-8-9 gears then transmission temperature went from 176 degrees to 205 degrees for the remainder of the trip. I proceeded to pull over and let the transmission rest for 45 mins then proceeded with my trip after not seeing any exterior damage or leaks. And it did not shift higher than 9th gear while cruise control was engaged even at lower speeds. The transmission then began to experience harder shifting, and gained a shutter like a clutch pack not engaging properly form 1-3rd gear, and sporadic shifting under light normal driving conditions at random intervals and remains to now have a normal operating temp of 204 degrees under normal driving conditions. Took it to be diagnosed at a ford dealer and it was the CDF drum that lead to a a cascade of issues leading to the transmission needing replacement. In June we started having transmission issues. Collateral was taken to Lynch Ford in Mt. Vernon IA. When we would drive the unit the transmission would slip. The final incident was when we were driving down [XXX] at 70 Miles per hour the transmission began to slip again. We had to pull over off the side of the road as the truck went in to limp mode. We had to continue to drive to the dealer at a lower rate of speed because we could not get a tow truck to pick us up. Dealer informed us the transmission was out and needed replaced. We spent close to 8K to replace the transmission. The collateral had just turned over 100K for miles. Since installing the new transmission we continue to have transmission issue. Truck as been back to Lynch Ford for further a diagnostic. They flashed the transmission and told us to drive the unit 400 miles to see if the flash fixes the problem. We have only had the truck less than 8 months. Location Stanwood Iowa. There should be a recall on these transmissions and owners who spent money to replace the transmission should be reimbursed. Back up camera is foggy, can't make out objects, when it rains hard and your backing up camera alert signal goes off even if nothing is there. When rain stops and there are a few dry days of weather the camera is still foggy and unable to make out objects. The service department can examine the camera and easily see the problem. The camera has no clear picture.
Cam phaser failure and engine timing off. Caused random shut off of engine and loss of power.
Transmission flutters a little before changing from 1st to 2nd gear. In 4th and 5th gear the transmission pauses a few seconds before going into the next gear. From 8th gear to the ninth gear, the transmission jerks really hard. The transmission only has 72000 miles on it. And also the dash board material is coming up.The lane assist jerks really hard sometimes, forcing you in another lane. No warnings or faults during each incidents.
Went to pull out into traffic and the transmission would not go into gear. It would not go forward or reverse, so I had to push it out of the road. There were no warning lamps on for transmission service.
Driving 80 mph on a toll road and when the truck downshifted while going up a hill, it couldn't find a gear and almost downshifted into 1st gear. It also got stuck in 4th gear in another incident and left me crawling through the middle of an intersection.
My 2019 F150 has issues with both the cam phasers and the transmission. Every time I turn on my truck I get the ford “cold start rattle” because defective parts from the factory that ford has known were defective and later fixed but for some reason my truck was not in the recall. My truck came off the same assembly line and time period of previous CSP or recall programs but my vin was never included. My truck also has 60,000 miles and the 10 speed transmission clunks all the time. I’m not sure if it’s missing shifts or what is breaking but everyone with a f150 around this year knows they are common to have transmission issues. Sometimes my truck doesn’t find the proper gear getting started and will rev high and barely move until it finally gets shift right and gets moving. These 2019 F150 issues are far too common i see them all across the blogs and internet and know a few other owners who have similar issues.

10r80 transmission delayed shifting and hard jerks and rumbles and slips gear while I’m highway
Transmission, gets stuck in high gears when only doing 20 mph. Had transmission rebuilt and a new torque converter by a ford dealer.. still has issues and they have no clue !!!!!!! It puts strain in The eingine...... and makes the transmission shutter! This has been since 60,000 miles, truck now has 70,100 miles
Slipping transmission. Hard shifting/slamming into gear. Typically when driving 35-45 mph.
While driving at highway speeds the transmission goes into neutral or downshifts dramatically on its own. My investigation online reveals that this is a common phenomenon with this model and year and I’m shocked there isn’t a recall for this safety issue because of the danger from losing control of the vehicle at highway speed. The information revealed that some vehicles can be repaired with a software update and many require a complete transmission replacement. Please investigate.
I own a 2019 Ford F-150 with only 94,000 miles on it—barely approaching 100,000—and I’m already experiencing significant transmission issues. The vehicle is equipped with the 10R80 transmission, and the way it shifts gears is extremely concerning. It’s unreasonable for such a critical component to show this level of failure so early. At this rate, it feels as though I’d need to replace the transmission every 94,000 miles, which is simply unacceptable and raises serious concerns about long-term reliability.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal rattling sound on cold starts and while idling. There was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Truck has 66,000 miles and we are going to have to replace the rear differential bearing assembly, gear and pinion. No reason that it should fail in less than 100,000 miles for a heavy duty truck.
SINCE I GOT THE TRUCK NEW FROM FORD DEALER WHEN COLD IT WOULD HAVE A RUFF TIME GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR BUT NOTHING SPECIAL BUT AFTER 40000 MILES IM STARTING TO SEE THE HARD SHIFTING HAPPENING TO MANY TIME WHILE DRIVING SOMETIMES I PRESS THE GAS AND THE TRUCK REDUCES SPEED OR IT JUST HAS A VERY HARD SHIFT ACTUALLY HURTS MY BACK WHEN THAT HAPPENS POSSIBLY A CHANCE OF LOSSING COTROL OF THE TRUCK WHILE DRIVING... SCARY
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 70 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. After a stop sign, I turned right onto a busy street. With foot on the accelerator, vehicle would not accelerate, and I had to quickly turn off into the right of way to avoid a collision. Fortunately there wasn’t a curb there. The vehicle was in “D”. I believe the transmission is faulty. It has happened multiple times. Also, the vehicle occasionally will not go into Park, more evidence of a faulty transmission. I believe Ford should recall and replace the transmission before it causes a serious accident.

Need software update for Transmission and SYNC to 4 or 5 Speed sensor
The 10 speed transmission slips, misses and fails across all gears, but especially in lower gears. Engine only had 37,000 miles on it when I bought the vehicle through Carvana. It’s been having this issue from day one.
