WAS TRAVELING AT 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY 2011 F250 XLT SUPER CAB SUDDENLY SHIFTED FROM 6TH GEAR INTO 1ST GEAR CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL AND THE TRUCK TO SPIN OUT. THE TRUCK IS A 6.2L WITH A 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
WHEN DRIVING THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION HAS A TERRIBLE SHIFT FROM 3 TO 4 AND WHENEVER YOU ARE DRIVING AT HWY SPEEDS IN 6TH GEAR AND PUSH THE GAS PEDAL TO GO A LITTLE FASTER IN WILL SOMETIMES DOWNSHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR
OUR 2011 FORD F250 TRUCK IS DOWN SHIFTING EXTREMELY HARD FROM 3RD GEAR TO 1ST GEAR (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) WHEN BRAKING. IT SHIFTS SO HARD THAT THE SEAT BELTS WILL LOCK UP AND IT WILL BARK THE TIRES ALMOST AS IF YOU HAD SLAMMED ON BRAKES. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL TIMES THAT WE HAVE BEEN ALMOST REAR ENDED BY CARS BEHIND US WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND THE SUDDEN SHIFT OCCURS. WE HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL MECHANICS WHO HAVE TOLD US THEY HAVE HEARD THIS SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH F250 TRUCKS.

THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 220,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

THE TRUCK WENT TO LIMP MODE FOR 3 SEC THEN SHUT OFF. MY SON WAS DRIVING AND IT SHUT OF ON A BUSY 4 LANE ROAD WITH NOWHERE TO GO ,NO POWER STEERING ,BRAKES ,NO MOTOR NOTHING. LET IT BE KNOWN AND I AM COPING THIS LETTER. THIS COULD BE VERY HAZARDOUS EVEN DEADLY. I HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE OR MULTIPLE PEOPLE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT HAPPEND.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE PARKED AND ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL POPPING NOISE AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO ROLL AWAY INTO A FROZEN LAKE. THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH THE ICE AND BEGAN SINKING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE AND TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING INSPECTION TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
WHILE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT HAND LANE ON 1-4 IN FLORIDA, WE RECEIVED A "STOP VEHICLE SAFELY NOW" WARNING AND THEN WITHIN SECONDS THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN. I WAS FORCED TO MAKE MULTIPLE, UNSAFE LANE CHANGES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE WITH WHAT POWER I HAD LEFT. MY PREGNANT WIFE AND 3 YEAR OLD SON WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME. WE WERE 3 HOURS FROM HOME AND ANY FAMILY / FRIENDS WHO COULD HELP. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHICH CHARGED US $800 TO REPLACE 3 SENSORS AND GET THE TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD. FURTHER, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY, LEAVING US STRANDED IN A FOREIGN CITY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY CLEAR THAT THE ISSUE WAS SIMPLY A SENSOR AND THERE IS NO REASON THE TRUCK SHOULDN'T HAVE JUST GIVEN US A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHICH WOULD HAVE ALLOWED US TO GET HOME. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER AND SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO HAVE THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND FORD HAS NO INTENTION OF FIXING THE PROBLEM. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD WOULD KNOWINGLY PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER. *TR
DRIVING THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH. LESS THAN A MILE FROM MY HOUSE, VEHICLE DISPLAYS WARNING TO STOP VEHICLE SAFELY. I BEGAN TO TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY SO THAT I COULD TURN AROUND AND HEAD BACK HOME AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. MY TRUCK WAS NOW BLOCKING THE ROADWAY AND A PERSON'S DRIVEWAY AT THE ONLY ENTRANCE TO THE SUBDIVISION DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE HOURS. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF, AND TRIED TO RE-START IT, BUT IT WOULD NOT RE-START. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL SO THAT I COULD PUSH IT OUT OF THE ROADWAY. I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO HAUL THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR. (THIS WAS THE SECOND INDECENT FOR ME INVOLVING A FAULTY ENGINE SENSOR.) I HAVE SPENT MORE THAT $300 FIXING SENSORS THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL. LEAVING ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF A ROADWAY, BLOCKING TRAFFIC. I AM JUST THANKFUL IT WAS IN A SUBDIVISION AND NOT ON A HIGHWAY. *TR
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY 2011 F250'S TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM WAS COVERED UNDER TSB 11-5-19. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD RANDOMLY DEVELOP A PROBLEM WHICH SEEMED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT GEAR. THERE WOULD BE A SEVERE LOSS OF POWER WHICH WOULD RESULT, AT TIMES, LEAVING MY VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC GOING AT A MUCH HIGHER SPEED AND CLOSING RAPIDLY FROM BEHIND. THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY DOING THE SERVICE PRESCRIBED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN BUT I WAS NOT AWARE OF THAT BULLETIN UNTIL THE PROBLEM BECAME SEVERE. *TR

CONCERNED THAT WHILE ON ROAD, VEHICLE MAY COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN TRAFFIC.- ALSO TRUCK IS A SHORT BED THAT CAME WITH THE FACTORY TOWING PACKAGE ,FIFTH WHEEL /GOOSENECK SET UP. AS PER SALESMAN, TRUCK WAS READY TO TOW. CONCERNED NOW THAT THE FACTORY HITCH IS NOT A SLIDING HITCH WHICH IS REQUIRED ON SHORT BEDS FOR PROPER TURNING AND CAB CLEARANCE. CONCERNED WITH TRAILER HITTING CAB. FORD LITERATURE STATES THAT THE FIFTH WHEEL/GOOSENECK SET UP IS FOR LONG BED PICK UPS ONLY. WHY THEN WAS IT ALLOWED BY FORD TO BE INSTALLED AT FACTORY ON A SHORT BED PICKUP. *KB

I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY DOWNLOADED THE MOST CURRENT PATCHES FOR MY TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER (8/27/11) THE SAME THING HAPPENED. AGAIN, GOING DOWNHILL ABOUT 60 MPH, AUTOMATIC DOWNSHIFT FROM 6TH TO 4TH TO 2ND WITH NO WARNING. NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS WERE DISPLAYED THIS TIME EITHER. DEALER IS RELUCTANTLY LOOKING AT IT AGAIN, HOPEFULLY THIS WEEK. THEY WANTED TO LOOK AT IT NEXT WEEK, BUT I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THIS STRIKES ME AS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO BULLETINS FOR MY TRANSMISSION. THEY WANTED IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN SO I COULD BE MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT I WAS ACCELERATING OR NOT. I DID NOT FEEL THEY WERE TAKING IT SERIOUSLY ENOUGH, SO I HAD TO ESCALATE THE SERVICE MANAGER'S DECISION TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT MORE QUICKLY. I AM EVEN MORE RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, EVEN RAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,500.
