A LOSS OF POWER ASSIST IN STEERING WILL OCCUR WHEN DRIVING IN SLOW SPEEDS LESS THAN 20 MPH AND APPLYING BRAKES. *AK
WHEN AT A STOP AND APPLYING BRAKES STEERING WILL LOCK UP, RESULTING IN COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE. CONSUMER TESTED OTHER 2000 F350 DIESEL MODELS, AND NOTICED ALL HAD THE SAME DEFECT. *AK
PURCHASED VEHICLE WITH FACTORY INSTALLED CLASS IV TRAILER HITCH RECEIVER. FOUND THAT STANDARD TRAILER SAFETY CHAINS WILL NOT FIT INTO SLOTS PROVIDED ON THE HITCH ASSEMBLY. LEARNED THAT MANY OTHER F350 OWNERS (MAY ALSO INCLUDE FORD F250 SUPER DUTY OWNERS) HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH THEY HAVE SOLVED THEMSELVES BUY EITHER MODIFYING THE HITCH (HITCH IS NOT TO BE CUT, WELDED OR MODIFIED PER MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTIONS) OR JURY RIGGED THE HITCH IN SOME FASHION IN ORDER TO ATTACH THE TRAILERS SAFETY CHAINS TO THE TRUCKS. I HAVE EVEN OBSERVED ONE F350 TOWING WITHOUT THE SAFETY CHAINS ATTACHED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE MANY PURCHASE THESE VEHICLES TO TOW HEAVY (UP TO 10,000 LBS) TRAILERS AND RECREATION VEHICLES. IT IS ALSO UNLAWFUL IN MOST (IF NOT ALL) STATES TO IMPROPERLY OR NOT ATTACH THESE SAFETY CHAINS WHEN TOWING A TRAILER. I ALSO FEEL THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT.*AK
TWO (2) BLOWOUTS ON ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FIRESTONE TIRES @ 70 MPH ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS, REPLACED EACH TIRE WITH THE SAME TYPE TIRE. AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE REMAINING ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES AND POTENTIAL FAILURE.( DOT NUMBER: )
TRANSMISSION SLAMS FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND IS OVERREVING. DEALER HAS INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
AIR INTAKE HOSE TO THE MANIFOLD CAME LOOSE WHEN THE TURBO WAS NEEDED. INTAKE HOSE HAS BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES BETWEEN FEBRUARY AND MAY WITH LESS THAN 5,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. AXLE/CALIPERS AND REPAIRS TO DRIVELINE HAD TO BEEN MADE BECAUSE OF THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD. FORD WAS REPLACING THE TRUCK. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
VEHICLE SWAYS WHILE DRIVING. DEALER HAS ALIGNED VEHICLE, AND CONSUMER HAS PURCHASED NEW TIRES AND VEHICLE STILL SWAYS.*AK FRONT END PULLS RIGHT WHEN BRAKING DUE TO BRAKE CALIPER FAILURE. *YH
THE SIDEWALLS HAVE DIME SIZE CHUNKS OF RUBBER THAT HAVE FALLEN OFF THE TIRE. THIS SEEMS TO BE FROM PHYSICAL DAMAGE (RUBBING CURBS), BUT THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE ON ANY VEHICLE I'VE OWNED AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT YET OCCURED. A LOCAL COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE HAS HAD FAILURE OF THIS SAME TIRE ON ONE OF THEIR AMBULANCES RESULTING IN DELAY OF EMERGENCY PATIENT TRANSPORT AND STRANDING OF AMBULANCE CREW AND PATIENT ALONG SIDE A RURAL ROAD FOR OVER AN HOUR BEFORE ASSISTANCE COULD ARRIVE. MUST WE WAIT UNTIL AN AMBULANCE ACCIDENT OCCURS BEFORE CONSIDERATION FOR RECALL OF THESE TIRES WILL BE CONSIDERED. FORD HAS INSTALLED THESE TIRES ON A GREAT NUMBER OF THEIR 2000 MODEL F-350 CHASSIS THAT ARE THEN DELIVERED FOR AMBULANCE MANUFACTURE. I KNOW THIS TO BE A FACT. I OWN THREE 2000 MODEL F350 AMBULANCES AND ALL OF THEM HAVE THESE TIRES. MY CREWS AND I ARE AFRAID TO RELY ON THESE TIRES. MY COMPANY ROUTINELY TRANSPORTS PATIENTS FROM OUR RURAL AREA TO HIGHER LEVEL MEDICAL FACILITIES, MOST TIMES OVER ONE HUNDRED MILES , AND AT SPEEDS OF 70 TO 90 MILES AN HOUR UNDER EMERGENCY CONDITIONS. PLEASE GIVE US HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM ASKING YOU TO CONVINCE FORD AND FIRESTONE TO RECALL THESE TIRES WHERE APPLIED TO EMERGENCY VEHICLES. THE USE OF THESE TIRES IN A LOW SPEED APPLICATION TRANSPORTING FREIGHT MAY BE RELATIVELY SAFE, BUT THAT IS QUESTIONABLE. WHILE DRIVING 60MH WAS SWITCHING LANES, AND VEHICLE SWAYED. STEERING WAS TIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. MECHANIC REPLACED BUSHINGS IN FRONT END. HAD CORRECTED SQUEAKING. WOULD MAKE KNOCKING NOISE WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS.*AK

AFTER VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 36 HOURS MASSIVE ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT OCCURRED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH RESULTED IN A FIRE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK

I ALSO HAVE CONCERN ABOUT HOW THE THE VEHICLE WILL RESPOND IN AN EMERGENCY STOP SITUATION IF THE WHEEL CANNOT BE TURNED WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED HARD. WITH THIS SYSTEM I MAY BE ABLE TO STOMP AND STAY BUT NOT SURE IF I WILL BE ABLE TO STEER. MY FIRST SERIOUS SITUATION OCCURRED WHEN I WAS PULLING A 6000LB TRACTOR. CONDITIONS WHERE GOOD WEATHER CLEAR AND OUTSIDE TEMP 98. WHEN APPROACHING AN AREA OF HWY FOUR LANE DIVIDED HWY( 2 NORTH 2 SOUTH). THIS AREA OF HWY HAS SEVERAL TRAFFIC LIGHTS SPACED ABOUT TWO MILES APART FROM ONE ANOTHER. THE TRUCK OPERATED AS EXPECTED ON THE FIRST THREE OF LIGHTS. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES FOR THE FOURTH TIME MY TRUCK PULLED LEFT SO HARD THE CROSS BAR ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN AND I WAS STILL HEADED INTO THE MEDIAN TOWARD NORTH BOUND TRAFFIC, I RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS SOON AS I WENT INTO THE GRASS TO REGAIN CONTROL, ONCE STOPPED I CHECKED UNDER MY TRUCK FOR A POSSIBLE BROKEN BRAKE LINE, BUT I SEEN NOTHING WRONG. I PROCEEDED TO THE OFFICE AFTER CHECKING EVERYTHING AND THINGS SEEMED OK AFTER THE BRAKES COOLED DOWN. DURING CHECKING THE BRAKES AND LINES THE LEFT FRONT ROTOR SEEMED VERY MUCH HOTTER THAN THE RIGHT FRONT! THE TRUCK HAS BEEN DOING THIS AND CONTINUES TO DO THIS. SOUTHWEST FORD IN WEATHERFORD IS THE ONLY DEALER THAT HAS WORKED ON IT FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY KEEP CHANGING THE PADS AND ROTORS AND GIVING IT BACK. I TOLD THEM THE CONDITIONS IN WITCH THE TRUCK PULLS BUT THEY WILL NOT LOAD IT. THEY WANT ME TO LOAD IT AND BRING IT TO THEM!!! I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND WORRIED TO LOAD IT, AND DRIVE IT. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE ASKED AND I GUESS I WILL LOAD IT TOO. BUT THIS WILL BE THE LAST STRAW! I HAD FOUND AN OLD MESSAGE ON THE INTERNET FROM "THE CARRINGTONS" THAT HAD THE SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THEIR 99 MODEL AND GOT A 2000 TO REPLACE IT. THEY SAID THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT AS BAD AS THE 99. IF YOU COULD HELP ME AND POSSIBLE OTHERS, I REALLY THINK IT WILL SAVE LIVES!*AK
POWER STEERING ASSIST GOES AWAY WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. VERY ANNOYING, AND IF I EVER HAD TO STOMP THE BRAKE PEDAL AT SPEED AND NEED TO SWERVE, TURN, ETC. AFTER TAKING VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR POPIN NOISE IN FRONT END WHILE TURNING FOUND OUT THAT THE TRAILING ARM BRACKET WAS BROKEN IN HALF. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARSNTY BECAUSE I HAVE A LEVELING KIT ON MY TRUCK. THEY REFERED ME TO A PLACE TO WELD IT TOGETHER WHEN I CONTACTED THEM I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE FIXED MANY FORD TRUCKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM SOME OF THE TRUCKS HAD LEVELING KITS SOME WITHOUT. THEN I CONTACTED A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ALSO WERE FIXING NUMEROUS TRUCK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT FORD HAD MADE A NEW PART THAT WAS STRONGER AND THAT'S HOW THEY WERE FIXING THE PROBLEM. I THINK FORD OBVIUOSLY HAS HAD A PROBLEM OTHERWISE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE A STRONGER PART BUT THEY ARE USING THE LEVELING KIT ON MY TRUCK AS AN EXCUSE NOT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY SO MANY TRUCKS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEMS BUT THERE ISN'T AS RECALL TO MAKE FORD FIX IT. *AK

WHILE GETTING ON EXPRESS WAY, WITH OUT WARNING, VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE TO 65-68 MPH; THIS RESULTED IN ALL LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE ON DASH BOARD. THIS CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE BRAKES AND A REAR END COLLISION. NLM

MODEL, DUELER AT, DOT EJLF, SIZE LT28J-75R16, NOT ORIGINAL.*AK CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS TIRE CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS, AND HE IS CONCERNED THAT THIS TIRE MAY BLOW OUT ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND HOPES TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING, ESPECIALLY ON A TWO LANE ROAD. *SCC
HAVE 3 FORD F-350 DIESELS ALL HAVE HAD CLUTCH PROBLEMS. TRUCKS WILL STAY IN GEAR AND CLUTCH GOES TO THE FLOOR AND WILL NOT RETURN.. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT LOW SPEED WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE TRUCK WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE AND STEER AT THE SAME TIME. MY WIFE IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO STEER THE TRUCK AND I AM JUST ABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY.*JB
TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH REAR ABS. WHEN MAKING A RAPID STOP AND THE REAR END HITS A BUMP INSTEAD OF THE ABS MODULATING THE BRAKES IT RELEASES ALL OF THE BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES SINCE I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT ISOLATED TO JUST MY TRUCK. CHECKING THE FORUMS AT FORD-DIESEL.COM THERE ARE LOTS OF OTHERS OUT THERE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. DEALERS HAVE TOLD THEM IT IS NORMAL. I DON'T BUY IT. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN BRAKING IS TO LET UP ON THE PEDAL, THEN QUICKLY REAPPLY. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN I JUST BARELY HAD TIME TO DO THAT. IT IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE IT IS NOT LIKE MOST ABS WHERE THE PEDAL WILL PULSE. THIS ACTS AS IF THE BRAKES HAVE JUST TOTALLY RELEASED, AND THE PEDAL DROPS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND, NOR DOES ANYONE ELSE WITH THE PROBLEM WHY THE FRONT BRAKES LET GO. IF IT IS ONLY REAR WHEEL ABS THEN WHY DO WE LOSE THE FRONT BRAKES ALSO? THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU REALLY CAN'T PREDICT WHEN IT WILL DO IT. I KNOW THAT I AM VERY WARY OF THE POSSIBILITY THAT A LITTLE HOP OF THE REAR WHEELS DURING HARD BRAKING CAN CAUSE THIS AND DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY. UNDER HOOD/UNDER DASH VEHICLE FIRE. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED 45 MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRE OCCURRED. THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD BANG AND FOUND FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE DASH. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE KEY WAS IN THE OFF POSITION AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE INVESTIGATOR SUGGESTED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE HEATER. *SCC *JB
