I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 FORD F350 DIESEL CREW CAB PICKUP FROM HAYFORD FORD IN ISANTI MN. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE A TOTAL OF 1500 MILES SINCE I PURCHASED IT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN 20 DAYS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. THEY NOW SAY I WILL HAVE A BILL OF $8000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE CONTAMINATED DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE HAS BEEN A FUEL TANK DELAMINATION ISSUE ON THESE VEHICLES THAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. THAT CAN LEAD TO A STALLING OF THE ENGINE IF NOT DETECTED PRIOR TO TOTAL FAILURE. FORD WILL NOT EVEN HONOR THE WARRANTY I PURCHASED FROM THEM. I NOTICED THE INCREASE IN ENGINE OIL VOLUME PRIOR TO ANY FAILURE WHICH LED FORD TO DIAGNOSE A FUEL PUMP FAILURE PRIOR TO ENGINE FAILURE. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAVE BEEN FAILURES WHILE THE VEHICLES ARE IN MOTION, WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE POSSIBILITY OF SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.
GETTING ON FREEWAY AND TRYING TO REACH AND MAINTAIN POSTED SPEED LIMIT. VEHICLE STARTED SPUTTERING THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD NOT SAFELY MAINTAIN MY SPEED SO I HAD TO PUT FLASHER ON AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. I QUICKLY FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WENT INTO TO LIMP HOME MODE SO WITH MY FLASHERS ON I PROCEEDED TO HEAD HOME WHICH WAS 40 MILES AWAY. I INDEED LIMPED MY VEHICLE HOME AS I COULD NOT MAINTAIN ANY POSTED SPEED LIMIT AND CREATED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS AN UNSAFE CONDITION FOR OTHER DRIVERS AS THEY WERE TRYING TO PASS AND GET AROUND ME. AFTER MAKING IT HOME I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT WITH A PUBLICATION DATE OF APRIL 27, 2011 TSB 11-4-22 6.4L LACKS POWER-DTC P0088. I PULLED MY ENGINE CODES AND I INDEED HAD THE P0088 CODE WHICH IS FUEL RAIL PRESSURE TOO HIGH. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT. THE GENTLEMAN PUT MY VIN# IN AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THAT KNOWN DEFECT FROM FORD. I'VE DONE MY RESEARCH AND THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. FORD HAS ADMITTED TO THE KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT BY CREATING THE TSB WITH THE PUBLICATION DATE OF APRIL 27, 2011
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE WIRE HARNESS WAS DAMAGED AND CAUSED THE FUEL PUMP TO SHORT OUT. AS A RESULT, THE WIRE HARNESS AND THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,200. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ASCEND AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE UPHILL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
2008 F350 FORD TRUCK, BAD HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. FORD REFUSING TO SUPPORT THEIR WARRANTY. RUNNING ROUGH, WITH NO HIGH END POWER. STALLED WHILE TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO BUSY TRAFFIC. SLOWED TO 20MPH IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. FORD DEALER ANALYZED TROUBLE TO HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED BY FORD 100,000 MILES/5YR WARRANTY. FORD WILL NOT SUPPORT THEIR WARRANTY DUE TO RUST FOUND IN FUEL TANK. RUST IN THE SYSTEM WOULD BE A FAILURE OF FORDS FILTERING SYSTEM / DESIGN WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE ONTO INTERSTATE 85 N FROM EXIT 57 IN OPELIKA, AL DURING VERY BUSY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND COULD NOT GET ABOVE 60 MPH, WHICH NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH WAS NOT COVERED BY THE FACTORY 100,000 MI. WARRANTY DUE TO WHAT THE DEALER AND A FORD MOTOR CO. REPRESENTATIVE FROM CUSTOMER RELATIONS SAID WAS CONTAMINATED FUEL DAMAGE. THE 6.4 L DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM IS EQUIPPED WITH A TWO FILTER AND FUEL/WATER SEPARATOR SYSTEM FOR THE PURPOSE OF FILTERING CONTAMINATES, INCLUDING WATER, WHICH OBVIOUSLY FAILED AND CONSEQUENTLY CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. ALL SERVICES HAD BEEN PERFORMED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO INCLUDE THE FUEL FILTERS. FORD SEEMS TO BE PLACING THE BLAME ON CONTAMINATED FUEL AS THE CAUSE FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE WHEN THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY THAT IT IS A DEFECT IN THE FILTERING SYSTEM. *JS
I HAVE 2008 FORD F350 XLT 4X4 SRW DIESEL JUST OVER A YEAR AND WHAT HAVE HAPPENED NOW IS THAT ON 08/02/1010 WHILE I WAS DRIVING THERE WERE NOISES FROM THE ENGINE ALSO SOOO MUCH OF WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT FROM EXHAUST PIPE AND THEN THE TRUCK JUST FAILED ON THE HIGHWAY AND WAS TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER LOCATION AFTER A WEEK SITTING THERE SERVICE PEOPLE FROM DEALERSHIP SAID THAT WAS OIL AND FUEL SPILLAGE ALL OVER THE FILTER AND THE ENGINE ETC.. BUT THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING IT AND I ENDED UP WITH THE BILL FOR IT AN HOUR LATER WHEN I TOOK IT THE TRUCK IT HAVE HAPPENED AGAIN THIS TIME I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER FEW DAYS THEY SAID THAT WAS SOMETHING MINOR AND THEY GAVE ME THE TRUCK WHEN I JUST LEFT THEIR SHOP IN THE EVENING SAME PROBLEM SO MUCH SMOKE THAT YOU COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING THE SMOKE WAS CHOKING ME SO NOW AGAIN THE TRUCK IS IN THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE BUT THEY NOW POINTING FUEL INJECTORS AND AGAIN THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR OIL AND FUEL SPILLAGE SO THAT THEY AGAIN GOING TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER BUT THEY NOT WORKING ON FIXING THE REAL PROBLEM! AT THIS MOMENT I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK BECAUSE OF THE FUEL SPILLAGE I KNOW IT CAN RESULT IN A FIRE AND IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK WITH SO MUCH SMOKE COMING OUT FROM EXHAUST FILTER

3 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS MY FORD F350 HAS SHUT DOWN WHILE I AM DRIVING, IT LOCKS ME OUT SO I CAN'T EVEN TURN THE ENGINE OVER AND I HAVE TO TRY TO COAST TO A SAFE PLACE OUT OF TRAFFIC. ALL 3 TIMES THE FUEL GAUGE READS OVER 50 MILES TO EMPTY, THE LAST TIME IT READ 140 MILES TO EMPTY. THE FUEL LINES ARE SUCKING IN AIR, I GET HIGH AND LOW PRESSURE CODES, I ADD MORE FUEL(DEISEL) AND THEN HAVE TO BLEED ALL OF THE LINES OF AIR AND PRIME THE PUMPS. I HAVE TO DO THIS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR IN A PARKING LOT IF I AM FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO MAKE IT THAT FAR. I PULLED THE TANK AND PULLED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT OUT, UPON CLEANING OUT THE TANK FOUND A PLUNGER ROLLING AROUND. THIS PLUNGER GOES IN THE FUEL SENDING UNIT, CLOSING A VALVE THAT SUCKS FUEL IF THE MAIN SUCTION GETS CLOGGED. IT IS ABOUT 2 INCHES HIGHER THAN THE MAIN SUCTION. BECAUSE THE PLUNGER HAS FALLEN OUT, THIS IS WHERE IT IS SUCKING FUEL FROM, WHICH CAUSES IT TO SUCK AIR WHEN THERE IS IN FACT STILL FUEL IN THE TANK. I CALLED FORD SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY REPLACE THESE UNITS ALL OF THE TIME, IT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT BUT NOT COVERED IF YOUR VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE 36K WARRANTY, WHEN THIS MOST COMMONLY HAPPENS. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED A FRIEND PULLED MY TRUCK INTO A PARKING LOT,WHILE HE WAS PULLING ME IN, THERE WAS ANOTHER FORD TRUCK BEING PULLED IN AFTER RUNNING OUT OF FUEL WHILE THE GAUGE STILL READ 50 MILES TO EMPTY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE, YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING AT THIS POINT AND CAN NOT EASILY HANDLE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THIS VEHICLE. MY WIFE WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENS. I WON'T LET HER DRIVE THE TRUCK DUE TO THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE PCM REPROGRAMMED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER: 07V139000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM), THE DEALER NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS DELAMINATING. THE DELAMINATING FUEL TANK COULD CAUSE CLOGGING PROBLEMS IN THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE FUEL TANK BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL TANK SHOULD NOT HAVE DELAMINATED IN TWO YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE AND WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED, CAUSING THE TRUCK TO LOSE POWER WHILE MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE. OUR VEHICLE DID NOT DIE COMPLETELY, AS I'VE HEARD MOST DO. IF WE HAD BEEN HAULING OUR RV, IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTOPHIC IN THAT SITUATION. FORD HAS HAD THESE PUMPS RECALLED ON OTHER VEHICLES (A VAN?), BUT BECAUSE THE REPAIR IS COSTLY, I BELIEVE THAT FORD MAY NOT WANT TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. THE WORST PART OF IT IS THAT ANYONE THAT OWNS AN F350 BUYS IT TO HAUL SOMETHING. IN OUR CASE, A 13000 POUND RV. IF WE LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO AND WYOMING, IT WOULD NOT BE GOOD. EVERY MECHANIC WE TALKED TO ABOUT THIS SEEMS TO FEEL THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE F350 6.4L POWERSTROKE
