While the contact's friend was driving 55 MPH, there was a blowout of the rear passenger’s side tire. The driver prevented a crash; however, the failure caused a significant amount of damage when the truck bed lowered and nearly separated from the chassis, the hubcap detached, and the exhaust pipe was bent in half. The driver pulled over to a truck stop and installed the spare and secured the truck bed to the frame with harness straps to prevent the truck bed from separating. The contact notified the manufacturer about the failure and requested that the tire be shipped for inspection to determine any potential liability. The contact had not yet submitted the tire or any documentation to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
