2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DOOR LATCH MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY IN AN WET ENVIRONMENT RECALL NOTICE. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE DOOR LATCHES COLLECTS WATER IN LOCKING MECHANISM/DOOR FRAME DUE TO MANUFACTURED DESIGN ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR/LATCH WOULD NOT LOCK. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS ABLE TO DRAIN 8-10 OUNCES OF WATER OUT OF THE DOOR CAVITIES, BY LIFTING THE RUBBER GASKET ON THE DOOR FRAME AT THE BOTTOM. *JB
THIS CAR HAVE A LARGE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINT OF THE LURCHING DUE TO A SUDDEN MALFUNCTIONING THROTTLE BODY WHICH CAUSE IRREGULARITY IN THE SPEED AND MAY CAUSE CRASHES AND MIGHT END TO BODY INJURIES OR FATALITY.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING THE SPEED LIMIT I CHANGED LANES AND THE REAR OF THE CAR FISHED TAILED. IT HAPPENED SO FAST IT SCARED ME TO DEATH. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO GET THE CAR UNDER CONTROL. IT WAS NOT RAINING AND SOME WHAT HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. THE CAR DOES NOT MANEUVER WELL. I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHILE CHANGING LANES AND DO IT SLOWLY OR THE CAR JERKS QUICKLY AND NOT SMOOTH AS MY OTHER CARS I'VE OWNED.
I DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR I PUT 2000 DOLLARS OF WORK AND STILL DO NOT FEEL SAVE.
THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS EVEN ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55+ MPH CAUSING IT TO LOSE POWER. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO GET IT STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTART IT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NOT WORKING. OIL AND BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATE CONSTANTLY. REVERSE LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY ON ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICHLE. CRUISE DOES NOT WORK. BLINKERS DO NOT WORK. STARTS DOING THIS AS SOON AS THE CAR IS STARTED. STARTED WHILE GOING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY NOW CONSTANT.

WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE CONTACT NOTICED A PUDDLE OF FUEL ON THE GARAGE FLOOR, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000. *TT CONSUMER STATED GAS WAS LEAKING. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS REPAIRED IT HAPPENED AGAIN. UPDATED 11/20/18*JB
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2016 I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT DOORS. WHEN IT GETS TO COLD BOTH LOCKS GET FROZEN AND DOORS WILL NOT CLOSE.
I OWN A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED CVT. 2 MONTHS AGO THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN ACTING UP. DRIVING ALONG AND THE "WRENCH" LITE COMES ON THEN THE "SKID" LITE COMES ON. THE CAR GOES INTO A LOSS OF POWER, LIKE LOW GEAR. IT MOVED BUT REVS UP AND WON'T SHIFTS UP. I KNOW ITS A CONSTANT VELOCITY TRANS SO IT IS AT IT'S LOWER RATIO. AFTER HOURS OF DIAGNOSTIC IT COMES DOWN TO THE TRANS CONTROL MODULE, AND STILL NOT SURE. THE OBD CODES SAY LOSS OF COMMUNICATION, A U CODE. EVERY INCH OF HARNESS HAS BEEN CHECKED THE WHOLE INTERIOR HAS BEEN REMOVED, DASH DISASSEMBLED. I'M INTO IT OVER $2,000. I LOVE THE CAR, IT RIDES GREAT. ITS HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. FORD I NEED HELP. NEED TO RECALL THIS ISSUE OR HOW ABOUT A P01 OR Z01 POLICY ADJUSTMENT.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN A FRONT END COLLISION WITH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE PRIMARILY DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING DOWN A CITY STREET AT ROUGHLY 35 TO 40 MPH UPHILL. THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED A STATIONARY VEHICLE THAT WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN. THE AIRBAG SENSOR WAS LOCATED ON THE VEHICLE AND WAS HIT, HOWEVER, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER IN THE ACCIDENT. THEY CLEARLY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED BY THE APPEARANCE OF THE SENSOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR LATCH FAILED TO CLOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,618.
LEAVING A GROCER AT 13:15 ON 9/7/2015 STARTED TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPOT WHEN AUTO SUDDENLY ACCELERATED BACKWARD, ACROSS THE AISLE AND SLAMMED INTO PARKED VEHICLE WITH IMPACT SENDING THAT AUTO INTO A 3RD. DAMAGES TO BOTH VEHICLES. WHEN I WENT TO PULL INTO MY ORIGINAL SLOT TO DEAL WITH SITUATION, AS SOON AS I REMOVED FOOT FROM BRAKE, AUTO LUNGED FORWARD AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, JUMPED A 6" LANDSCAPE CURB AND PLOWED INTO THE FRONT END OF A CADILLAC SRX CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO THAT VEHICLE, STILL UNK TOTAL DAMAGE TO MINE. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY AND THE AC WAS RUNNING. NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE OCCUPIED OTHER THAN MINE, AND I WAS SOLE OCCUPANT. MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND PASSENGER'S WAS NOT TURNED ON. I DID RECEIVE A SIGNIFICANT BRUISE ON MY STERNUM FROM THE SHOULDER COMPONENT OF MY SEAT BELT. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR FOR EITHER "LUNGE". CRASHES WERE WITNESSED AND PEORIA AZ POLICE DID RESPOND WITH 2 UNITS. OFFICERS DID TAKE INFORMATION, BUT WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT INCIDENT # FOR MY RECORDS OFFICER RESPONDED THAT THERE WOULD BE NO REPORT AND NO CITATIONS AS IT OCCURRED ON PRIVATE PROPERTY. MY INSURANCE CARRIER WAS CONTACTED FROM SITE, BUT BEING A HOLIDAY, I WAS NOT ABLE TO SPEAK WITH ADJUSTER AT THAT TIME. KNOWING THAT IT WAS NOT MY ACTIONS THAT CAUSED THIS INCIDENT, I CHECKED THE NEXT DAY AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IDENTICAL SITUATION HAD BEEN UNDER INVESTIGATION WITH NHTSA AT THE TIME I PURCHASED THE CAR ON OR ABOUT 11/16/12 AT WHICH A SERVICE PROGRAM TO RETIFY WAS IN EFFECT. WITH MY INCIDENT THOUGH, MAJOR DAMAGE OCCURRED. NEITHER AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, NOR THROUGHOUT THE INVESTIGATION & TENURE OF MY OWNERSHIP (CURRENT) WAS I NOTIFIED OF THE KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM NOR IT'S PROGRAM TO MITIGATE. ATTACHED AERIAL PHOTO SHOWS BACK TO BACK DIMENSION TO FIRST IMPACT AND BACK TO FRONT DIMENSION OF 2ND. I WAS PARKED IN POSITION OF WHITE VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING DASH LIGHTS, SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, GAS LEVEL, AND TEMPERATURE GO OUT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AT A TIME. REVERSE LIGHTS COME ON AND AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON. THIS IS DANGEROUS; UNABLE TO TELL SPEED! PER INTERNET RESEARCH THIS IS HAPPENING IN SEVERAL FORD MODELS AND STEMS FROM A BAD SOLDER JOINT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO SHUT OFF. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND LOSES POWER. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK OPEN AND THE ECM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER THE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,585.
WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR CONTINUES TO JERK AND DRIVE. IT ALSO DOES IT WHILE REVERSING WHICH IN BOTH CASES HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO RUN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OR BEHIND ME. IT TAKES A WHILE TO PICK UP SPEED AFTER STOPPING. IT JERKS WHILE PICKING UP SPEED. THE PASSENGER DOOR INSIDE HANDLE DOES NOT CLOSE ON ITS OWN. IT RAINS IN THE CAR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE PANEL KEEPS POPPING OUT OF PLACE.. THE THING UNDER THE CAR THAT KEEPS YOU FROM HITTING THE CURB, IS FALLING APART.
I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE CAR JUST STALLED OUT ON ME WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT. HAD TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND TRY TO RESTART CAR, RESTARTED AND THEN AS SOON AS I PUT IT INTO DRIVE IT STALLED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES UNTIL I COULD MOVE TO THE NEXT LIGHT AND STOP AND GO THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN. FINALLY GOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND GOT HOME. THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE. HAPPENED A SECOND TIME WHILE PICKING UP CHILDREN FROM DAYCARE. STALLED OUT WHILE AT LOW RPM AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. HAD FUEL FILTER REPLACED. HAPPENED A THIRD TIME AT THE STORE. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. TOWED IT TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER SPENT OVER 6 HOURS TO COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND PCM REPROGRAMMED/UPDATED. WITHOUT MUCH CONFIDENCE, THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME AND SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. DROVE IT FOR A DAY AND THEN HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IN TRAFFIC WHEN AT LOW RPM, WITH CHILDREN IN CAR AT INTERSECTION CAR STALLED OUT! FINALLY GOT IT STARTED BY HOLDING BRAKE AND PUSHING ON ACCELERATOR WHILE PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE SO THAT IT WOULD NOT STALL OUT. DROVE IT HOME AND HAVE NOT TAKEN IT OUT SINCE. EXPECT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT DON'T WANT TO SPEND ANY MORE MONEY ON "DIAGNOSTICS" WHEN FORD KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM PART AND THEY NEED TO STAND BEHIND IT!!!!! THEY HAVE PUT MY FAMILY AT RISK MORE THAN ONCE AND THEY NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
SPARK PLUGS HAVE BACKED OUT OF THE ALUMINUM HEAD IN THIS VEHICLE TWICE NOW. THIS SECOND TIME, IT WAS A PLUG IN THE BACK HEAD HARD TO REACH AND IT PULLED SOME OF THE THREADS OUT WITH IT. THESE ALUMINUM HEADS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITH STEEL HEADS. *TR
AFTER IT RAINED, THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED BELOW FREEZING. MY DOOR WAS DIFFICULT TO OPEN, BUT WOULD NOT CLOSE OR LATCH. IT WAS FROZEN OPEN. THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL ON THIS, BUT FORD DEALERS IN THE AREA SAYS IT DOES NOT APPLY TO CARS IN THE SOUTH. A RECALL IS A RECALL. FIRST OF ALL, BOTH TN AND OK GET SNOW AND ICE, AND A RECALL IS A RECALL. IF I DECIDE TO MOVE BACK TO MAINE WITH THIS CAR, THEN I'LL BE ABLE TO GET IT FIXED FOR FREE? WHAT IF DECIDE TO GO SKIING IN COLORADO, BUT CANNOT LEAVE BECAUSE MY DOOR LATCHES FREEZE? *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN 9E AT APPROXIMATELY 3:20PM, I HIT A POTHOLE AND POPPED MY TIRE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AFTER CONTACTING MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS 3 OTHER VEHICLES THAT HAD BEEN HIT BY THE POTHOLE AS WELL. THE POLICE WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED EACH DRIVER WITH AN ACCIDENT REPORT. *TR
ONE DAY DRIVING MY FORD FIVE HUNDRED AS I AM GETTIN ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR DIDNT ACCELERATE EFFECTIVELY ACTIVATING RPM SURGES BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T SPEED MORE THAN 30MPH DOING SO TAKING LONG NEARLY CAUSING A ACCIDENT IN ADDITION TO SLOWING FLOW OF TRAFFIC AFTER FINALLY GETTING HOME AND PARKED THE NEXT DAY THE CAR DIDN'T START IT WOULD CRANK BUT WOULDN'T START I HAD A MECHANIC COME LOOK AT THE CAR EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER THE PCM WOULD ALSO CLICK WHEN TRYING TO START AFTER DOING RESEARCH I DISCOVERED NHTSA HAD A RECALL FOR FORD FIVE HUNDREDS 12N03 AND IN THE SUMMARY IT INCLUDED THROTTLE AND PCM REPROGRAMMING AND CLEANING OR REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY. THEREFORE I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THESES BEING THE CARS ISSUES HOWEVER FORD DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MY PCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED NOT REPROGRAMMED WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER 12N03 PROTECTION PROGRAM. *TR
I PURCHASED NEW IN 2005 A FORD FIVE HUNDRED LIMITED FROM A DEALERSHIP. I HAVE DRIVEN IT AND HAVE BEEN MORE THAN SATISFIED WITH IT. I HAVE HAD TO DO SOME WORK TO IT THAT ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIPS ARE COMMON PROBLEMS SUCH AS SWAY BAR ENDS AND A CV JOINT.ESPECIALLY LIVING IN THE NORTHEAST. THE REASON I'M FILING THIS SAFETY COMPLAINT IS DUE TO THE THROTTLE BODY ON THIS MODEL VEHICLE. APPROX A MONTH OR TWO AGO AS WHILE DRIVING, MY CAR ENGINE WOULD REV UP SLIGHTLY AND MOMENTARILY. SHORTLY AFTER THAT STARTED THE VEHICLE (6 SPEED AUTOMATIC) WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. I WOULD ONLY SHIFT UP IF I WOULD LET OFF THE GAS PEDDLE, SHORTLY AFTER THAT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN SHORTLY AFTER THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY GIVEN SPEED IT WOULD GO INTO "FAIL SAFE" CHECK ENGINE MODE. I BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND CODES THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE FUEL SYSTEM RUNNING "RICH" BUT COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT IT WAS EXACTLY. I THEN STARTED READING ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THAT MANY OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM THAT FORD NEW ABOUT ON SEVERAL MODELS (INCLUDING MERCURY) FORD DID NOT DO A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BUT RATHER SENT A LETTER TO OWNERS ( I NEVER RECEIVED) SAYING THAT THEY WOULD CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY AND RESET THE CONTROL COMPUTER. THE LETTER CAME OUT IN 2012. THE LETTER SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE COVERED FREE ON VEHICLES THAT HAD LESS THAN 150,000 AND UNDER TEN YEARS. I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE MILEAGE. I HAVE HAD THE DEALERSHIP CLEAN THE PLATES OF THE THROTTLE BODY AS THE LETTER SAID AND PAID FOR IT BUT THE PROBLEM PERSIST AND IN FACT IS WORSE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY DO OTHER THAN GO TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP. A CAR STALLING WHILE IN IN TRAFFIC IS VERY DANGEROUS AND FORD SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASION. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUOUSLY SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THROUGH METRO CITY IN RUSH HOUR ON INTERSTATE.ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY HAD TO CROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO EXIT;CAR LOST POWER AND MESSAGE CENTER SAID ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE.TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO EXIT;CAR HAD LOST POWER WITH NO ACCELERATION.WHEN I FINALLY GOT TO EXIT WAS DOWN TO 20 MILES PER HOUR. *TR
THROTTLE/ACCELERATOR THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATES WITHOUT PUSHING THE PEDAL. I HAVE ALMOST HIT VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS. IT APPEARS TO BE GETTING WORSE AND MORE DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN GOING ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THE CAR LOST ALL POWER, THEN ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE DISPLAYED ON THE INFORMATION CENTER AND A LITTLE WRENCH WAS ALSO DISPLAYED. WITH NO POWER STEERING, I HAD TO PULL OVER QUICKLY IN LUNCHTIME TRAFFIC. AFTER STOPPING THE CAR, I WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND RESTARTED IT. NO PROBLEMS WITH IT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED A MECHANICAL SMELL COMING FROM THE AC. IT APPEARED, AT FIRST, THAT THIS PROBLEM HAD COME OUT OF NOWHERE WHEN I SUDDENLY REMEMBERED TWO OCCASIONS WHEN THE RPMS SUDDENLY STUCK ON 3000 AND WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. ALSO, WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL, THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES AND STUTTERS SLIGHTLY WHEN GOING UP OR DOWN VERY SLIGHT INCLINES. *TR
TRIED TO PULL OUT ON TO HWY. THE FAIL SAFE LIGHT CAME ON AND SHUT DOWN ENGINE. COULD NOT STEER OR CONTROL CAR AT ALL, WAS VERY CLOSE TO HAVING A BAD ACCIDENT. *TR
THIS PROBLEM IS GOING FOR A WHILE, EVEN IN A STOP LIGHT, FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL THE ENGINE ACCELERATE HIMSELF AND WHILE SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE THE SOUND ON THE TRANSMISSION IS HARD. IT GO FROM 700 RPMS TO 1300 RPMS ON SECONDS, AND NOW IS WORSE. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TWO FORD REPAIR DEALERS, AFTER PUTTING ON THE COMPUTER,BOTH WANTED TO CHARGE ME $6,000.00 ON A TRANSMISSION, EVEN KNOWING THE RECALLS ON THIS UNITS.THIS CAR LOOKS LIKE NEW I CAN SEND YOU PHOTOS, AND I LOVE MY CAR.
THROTTLE ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. VERY SIMILAR CONCERNS AS EARLIER RECALL WHICH SUPPOSEDLY APPLIED FIX TO THE CAR A COUPLE YEARS AGO. EXCEPT .ALONG WITH UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WHILE STOPPED A NEW PROBLEM ARISES. MOTOR ACTS AS IF IT IS NOT GETTING FUEL AND SLOWS TO A CRAWL SPUTTERING TO A STOP.. WRENCH MALFUNCTION LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER CARS SITS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WRENCH DISPLAY GOES OFF AND CAR OPERATES NORMALLY. OWNERS MANUAL INDICATES THAT THIS MAY BE A THROTTLE ASSEMBLY PROBLEM. PRIOR RECALL NOTICE THAT HAS EXPIRED. ON MULTIPLE WEB BOARDS PROBLEM IS MENTION WITH GREAT FREQUENCY FOR THE FORD 500. THIS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE ON A SIDE STREET AT 15-20 MPH. IF IT OCCURRED ON NEXT BUST STREET IT COULD HAVE PRESENTED A DANGEROUS SCENARIO. FORD DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT FORD MFG ONLY PROVIDED 1 TIME FIX IN RECALL & SINCE THE THROTTLE CLEANING FIXED THE PROBLEM AT THE TIME OF RECALL NO FURTHER ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. I MENTIONED THEY DID EXTEND FOR RECURRING PROBLEM BUT THAT EXTENSION 2013. I DON'T FEEL A MFG SHOULD BE ABLE TO TIME LIMIT A PROBLEM RESOLUTION THAT THEY NEVER PERMANENTLY FIX. MY CAR HAS ENGINE READ CODE P2107 AND P2110 ON THREE OCCASIONS NOW AND WHEN I GO TO START MY CAR IN THE MORNING ITS A LITTLE WRENCH UP AND MY CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE PAST 20 IT HAPPENED ONCE WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR AND WE HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD 35MPH AT THE TIME AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO CUT THE CAR OFF THEN SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN CRANK BACK UP. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE IT I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN I WAS STUCK IN THE ROAD THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO CRANK BACK UP. I DROVE THE CAR FOR A FEW WEEKS SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME ONE DAY ON I-95 AS I WAS DRIVING IT STOPPED AGAIN WITH CRAZY TRAFFIC. AFTER THIS EPISODE WHEN I FINALLY MADE IT HOME I DECIDED TO PARK MY CAR FOR SEVERAL WEEKS UNTIL I CALLED FORD TO SEE IF THERE WAS A WARRANTY AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING MY CAR TO BE REPAIRED ONLY TO BE TOLD IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST ME $2000 TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED BECAUSE THERE WAS A ALSO A LEAK WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE UNDER RECALL. I'VE READ A LOT OF THINGS GOING ON WITH THIS CAR IN PARTICULAR THE 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. I CALLED THE FORD 800 NUMBER THAT THE MECHANIC GAVE ME TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPAIR THE THROTTLE FOR MY CAR THEY TOLD ME THAT ITS OVER THE MILEAGE WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR MY INCONVENIENCES WHEN I WAS STOPPED ON THE ROAD, I AM CURRENTLY USING A BORROWED CAR BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO PUT MY LIFE IN JEOPARDY DRIVING THIS CAR UNTIL I AM ABLE TO GET IT REPAIRED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE JERKED WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE MOUNTS TO FRACTURE. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY DECELERATE. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE POWER CONTROL MODULE AND THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. PART OF AN ONGOING SERIES OF ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE (SEE EARLIER REPORTS), INITIAL SYMPTOM WAS THE DASH LIGHTS & NEEDLES SHUTTING OFF INTERMITTENTLY (BUT NOW FOR EXTENDED PERIODS). VEHICLE THEN BEGAN SHOWING RANDOM WARNING LIGHTS INCLUDING "CHECK ENGINE", WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED FIRST TIME AS LOW FUEL LEVEL SENSORS A & B. SINCE THAT TIME I'D DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY ON A SUGGESTION OF A MECHANIC FRIEND AND ALL THE ISSUES DISAPPEARED FOR A FEW WEEKS. YESTERDAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK, AND THE CAR WAS RUNNING POORLY (CREEPING WHEN FIRST OFF BRAKES, NOT UP SHIFTING), WHEN THE DASH WAS OPERABLE IT SHOWED ALTERNATING CHECK ENGINE/CHECK TRANSMISSION WARNINGS, AND VEHICLE WAS SURGING/LAGGING NOTICEABLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I AGAIN DID THE BATTERY DISCONNECT LAST NIGHT, AND THE CAR IS OPERATING NORMAL TODAY, BUT I'M SURE IT WILL RECUR SHORTLY. I AM HESITANT TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AS THIS SOUNDS LIKE A SIGNIFICANT ELECTRONICS ISSUE, AND I HAVE ALREADY READ UP ON THE FORD TSB 06-17-9 THAT IS DOCUMENTED ONLINE, NOT ALL OF WHICH ALIGNS WITH MY ISSUES. ON THE INTERSTATE HEADED TOWARDS DENVER, AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR, WHEN TO ACCELERATE FROM ABOUT 70MPH TO ASCEND UP THE HILLS, THE ENGINE RPMS ACCELERATE, HOWEVER, IT FEELS THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS DISENGAGED (SLIPPING) WITH NO POWER TO THE DRIVETRAIN RESULTING IN A DRASTIC LOSS OF SPEED. THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES IN EFFORTS TO REGAIN CONTROL AND MAINTAIN SPEED. THIS WAS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AS TRAFFIC WAS SOMEWHAT CONGESTED, AND OTHER DRIVERS ARE EXPECTING ME TO ACCELERATE, HOWEVER, VEHICLE WAS IN A DECELERATING MODE. THIS WAS ONLY WITH LIGHT PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR. IT SOUNDED AS IF THE GEARS HAD STRIPPED IN THE TRANSMISSION. WE TURNED AROUND AND HEADED HOME, AUTO WOULD NOT ALLOW SPEEDS OVER 60MPH. LATER THE SAME HAPPENED AT SPEEDS OF 35-40 ON LOCAL ROADS. THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. FORD KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. *JS
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED ON 2/21/14 W/31,000+/- MILES, INITIAL ISSUE WAS WITH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INTERMITTENTLY BLIPPING ON & OFF (SOMETIMES FOR EXTENDED PERIODS). THAT ISSUE WAS FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, WHICH WHEN ANALYZED SHOWED LOW FUEL SENSORS A&B (OCCURRED IN LATE APRIL 2014). UP TO THIS POINT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE WITH NO IMPACT ON ACTUAL DRIVABILITY. LAST FRIDAY 5/9/14, I WAS AT A LIGHT AND WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE OFF, BUT VEHICLE WAS BARLEY MOVING OR RESPONDING TO THROTTLE INPUT, THIS CONTINUED FOR A SHORT DISTANCE & EVENTUALLY BUILT UP TO NORMAL SPEED. IT RECURRED AGAIN AT THE NEXT LIGHT, WITH SAME SYMPTOMS. I CONTACTED A MECHANIC I KNOW AND THE NEXT DAY I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO CLEAR THE SYSTEM, AND AS OF A WEEK LATER ONLY THE DASH LIGHTS ISSUE HAS RECURRED. HOWEVER I FEEL THE LOSS OF POWER IS A SIGNIFICANT CONCERN IF IT WERE TO OCCUR ON A BUSY ROAD OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
2005 FORD FIVE HUNDRED THIS PRODUCT WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. THERE ARE THOUSANDS FAILING AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS! THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES CAUSING THE AUTOMOBILE TO LOSE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. I'VE SEEN POSTS OF THOUSANDS OF THIS SAME FAILURE BEGINNING AT 3500 MILES! I CONTACTED FORD BECAUSE MINE IS DOING THIS AND THEY BASICALLY SENT A FORM LETTER SAYING OH WELL, SORRY ABOUT YOUR LUCK. MANY OF FORD'S PRODUCTS HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION INCLUDING THE FORD FLEX WHICH IS INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. I JUST PURCHASED A 05 FORD FIVE HUNDRED AND WAS ON MY WAY FROM CALIFORNIA TO GEORGIA. AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED THAT WHEN IT WOULD SHIFT IT WOULD REV UP EVEN WHILE SLOWING DOWN. I ALSO NOTICED THAT IF THE AC WAS ON IT GOT WORSE. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH WE RECEIVED A MESSAGE ON THE MESSAGE CENTER ABOUT A FAILURE OF SOME SORT (I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT SAID EXACTLY NOW). WE LOST ALL ACCELERATION OF THE CAR.
