A/C COMPRESSOR IN 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WENT OUT WITH APPROX 91,000 MILES. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 FORD 500 THAT STARTED SURGING FORWARD AND BACKWARD. I TOOK THE CAR AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO A FORD DEALERSHIP ONLY TO LEARN THAT THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HAD BACK-DATED MY WARRANTY TO THE TIME THE CAR WAS PUT IN SERVICE. (I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR AS A "PROGRAM" CAR.) MY WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT ACCORDING TO THEM 6 DAYS BEFORE I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WROTE A LETTER TO FORD AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR IT EVEN THOUGH I THOUGHT I HAD PURCHASED A 5 YEAR, 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE CAR IS STILL SURGING FORWARD AND BACKWARD AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT. I HAVE OWNED LINCOLNS AND FORDS ALL OF MY LIFE AND I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER ONE. I CANNOT BELIEVE FORD REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY HAZARD THAT FORD NEEDS TO REPAIR. SEEING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS THAT PEOPLE HAVE SENT IN, FORD KNOWS THAT THEY ARE IN THE WRONG AND STILL THEY DO NOTHING. *KB
IN SEPTEMBER 2010 (AT 42K MILES), MY 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED SEL STARTED TO SUDDENLY LURCH FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN SHIFTED FROM PARK, ESPECIALLY IF THE FRONT END WAS SITTING HIGHER. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE ICONS WOULD LIGHT UP AND THE CAR LOST 95% OF ITS POWER. TURNING OFF THE ENGINE FOR 30 SECONDS OR SO WOULD CAUSE THE WRENCH ICON TO TURN OFF, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE ICON WOULD STAY LIT. THE CAR WOULD DRIVE NORMALLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF OVERNIGHT. AFTER THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, A FORD DEALER SAID THAT ITWAS THE TCM MODULE WHICH WASN'T COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I PAID $1000 TO HAVE THE TCM REPLACED BY A CERTIFIED FORD MECHANIC. IN APRIL 2011 THE CAR BEGAN TO REPEAT THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I'VE HAD THE CAR TO 3 FORD DEALERS, BUT THEY ALL SAY THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE CAR IS ACTUALLY MALFUNCTIONING AT THE TIME. I WAS PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY RECENTLY WHEN THE LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO MY LANE BEFORE MEETING AN ONCOMING CAR. I SAY FORTUNATELY BECAUSE THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER UNTIL THE WRENCH ICON GOES OUT! THIS IS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD IS "STONEWALLING". DIDN'T THEY LEARN FROM TOYOTA'S BRAKE ISSUES? *TR
WHEN I SHIFT FROM A STOPPED POSITION, EITHER INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, THE CAR LUNGES OR JUMPS FORWARD. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE DEALER KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND SAYS THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT REFUSES TO FIX IT UNLESS A GOD AWFUL AMOUNT OF MONEY IS PAID IN REPAIR COSTS. THEN HE SAYS IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN! *TR
WHEN THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE 36 MONTH 36,000 WARRANTY IT BEGAN LUNGING FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED TO ACCELERATE. NOTICEABLY WHEN FIRST TAKING OUT OF PARK EITHER GOING FORWARD OR REVERSE, OR WHEN GOING THROUGH DRIVE UP WINDOWS. (IE FAST-FOOD OR BANK). INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST AND THEN MORE AND MORE UNTIL IT WAS DOING IT EVERY TIME, AND AT A GREATER ACCELERATION. THE FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY KNEW RIGHT OFF THE BAT, IT EVIDENTLY WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. WE HAD TO WAIT OVER A MONTH FOR THEM TO FINALLY GET ONE IN BECAUSE THEY WERE BACK-ORDERED . EVIDENTLY LOTS OF PEOPLE NEEDED THEM! WE WERE ADVISED NOT TO USE OUR CAR DURING THIS TIME BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. OF COURSE THE DEALER DID NOT WANT TO PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER THE NEW CAR WARRANTY, BUT AFTER MAKING COMPLAINTS TO FORD MOTOR CO FOR THREE WEEKS WHILE THE PART REPEATEDLY DID NOT COME IN, WE WERE GIVEN A RENTAL UNTIL IT WAS FINALLY REPLACED 11-2009. NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE NEW CAR WARRANTY IS UP AND THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THEIR REPAIR BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN OVER 12 MONTHS. THE CAR NOW HAS 41,000 MILES AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. I SHOULD HAVE REPORTED IT THE FIRST TIME BUT FORD SEEMED TO BE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND THE WAY THEY TALKED TO ME I THOUGHT THERE WAS GOING TO BE A SAFETY RECALL. IT IS A TERRIBLE SAFETY HAZARD. NOW THAT THE NEW CAR WARRANTY IS UP THEIR MEMORIES HAVE GOTTEN BAD. THE LOCAL DEALER (KEN GARFF FORD) TOLD ME THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 FIVE HUNDRED. WHICH IS TOTAL BULL BECAUSE THEY SURE WERE AWARE OF IT THE FIRST TIME A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. I AM REALLY DISGUSTED WITH MY DEALERSHIP. I AM WAITING TO SEE WHAT FORD MOTOR COMPANIES RESPONSE WILL BE. EITHER WAY I FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LET OTHERS KNOW OF THIS DEFECT. I WONDER HOW MANY FENDER BENDERS HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THIS. I AM AFRAID A PEDESTRIAN COULD BE HIT AND SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. PROBLEM GOT WORSE INCLUDE ACCELERATION IN REVERSE AS WELL AS FORWARD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE BACKWARD WHEN REVERSING OUT OF PARKING SPACES. 2007 FORD 500 CAR SURGES IN DRIVE AND REVERSE. WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING PLACES CAR MOTOR RACES AND CAR SURGES 3 TO 4 FEET. SO FAR WE HAVE NOT HIT ANYONE. *TR
2007 FORD 500 TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTS TO BUCK OUT OF THE BLUE. CANNOT PASS PEOPLE ON NORMAL ROADS OR BARELY MAKE IT UP HILLS, ACCELERATION IS VERY SLOW. FAILURE OCCURS EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN, GETTING WORSE EVERY DAY. IT USED TO OCCUR AT HIGHER SPEEDS, NOW IT IS HAPPENING ANYWHERE ABOVE 30MPH. HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT PROBLEM, BEEN READING UP ON IT; AND EVERYONE HAS THE PROBLEM AND THERE IS NO "CHEAP" FIX YET. *TR
I WORK FOR A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED MY 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WITH A BAD RIGHT FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT. MY CAR ONLY HAS 56,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH TIRES, ALIGNMENT AND CHECKING ONLINE I SEE OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT BAD BALL JOINTS ON THEIR 500'S. *TR
OUR 2007 FORD 500 CURRENTLY HAS 63,000 MILES ON IT. AT ABOUT 53,000 MILES WE STARTED TO SEE A RANDOM "SURGE" OF THE THROTTLE WHEN WE WERE SHIFTING THE CAR FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. IT HAS CONTINUED TO GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, NOW OCCURRING ALMOST EVERY TIME WE SHIFT THE CAR FROM THE POSITIONS NOTED ABOVE. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS. FROM ALL OF THE ONLINE FORUMS, THIS BEHAVIOR IS NOT ISOLATED TO JUST ONE CAR//ONE OWNER BUT RATHER SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. ALSO, ON A SEPARATE NOTE, OUR AC FAILED AT 63,000 MILES, THE COMPRESSOR NEEDING REPLACEMENT. ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, AGAIN THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC BUT THERE WERE NO FAILURE CODES GENERATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS BUT THE DEALER WAS NEVER ABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR POSSIBLE REPAIRS AND ANSWERS TO ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE AIR CONDITION IN THIS CAR STOPPED WORKING; ONLY HOT AIR WAS BLOWING OUT. AFTER TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO A LEAKING AIR COMPRESSOR. I WAS TOLD MULTIPLE FORD FIVE HUNDRED'S HAVE BEEN TAKEN IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND ALSO DRIVES A 2007 FORD FUSION AND IS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH HIS VEHICLE. I CALLED SEVERAL MECHANIC'S AND DEALERSHIPS TO TRY AND GET A PRICE COMPARISON FOR THIS ISSUE AND ALL OF THEM TOLD ME THE SAME THING - THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH SO MANY 2007 FORD VEHICLES...I THINK THIS DESERVES SOME RESEARCH. THE COMPRESSOR SHOULD NOT GO OUT IN A CAR AT 72,000 MILES.
THE VEHICLE SURGES/LUNGES FORWARD/BACKWARD WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO REVERSE/DRIVE WITHOUT ANY GAS BEING APPLIED. WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED THE VEHICLE STILL DOESN'T STOP AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENS. THE CAR MAINLY DOES IT WHEN THE AIR CONDITION IS ON, BUT WILL DO IT OTHER TIMES AS WELL. THE CAR HAS SHUT OFF TWICE WHILE DRIVING WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARING ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR IT SHUT OFF AGAIN. WHEN I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONING OFF THE CAR STOPPED SHUTTING OFF. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY FORD, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT. FORD FIVE HUNDRED STARTED LURCHING OR LUNGING WHEN PLACED IN GEAR. FROM A PARKED POSITION.. THE CAR LURCHED BACK INTO THE WALL OF THE CARPORT CRUSHING THE BACK BUMPER. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE CAR LURCHED WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPEN AND KNOCKED INTO THE CARPORT POST. VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
SOME MONTHS AGO, MY CAR STARTED TO OSCILLATE IN RALENTI FROM 700 TO BELOW 500 RPM, WHEN BRAKING EVEN STOPS. SOME TIMES DECELERATE SUDDENLY, FREQUENTLY SLOW RESPONSE WHEN ACCELERATE, ETC. FORD LOCAL DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THIS THROTTLE BODY ON THIS ENGINE MODELS, AND I HAVE TO REPLACE IT. I AM AWARE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON 3.0L V6 ENGINES DUE TO I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A MONTEGO 2005 WITH SAME PROBLEMS. SO FAR, NO FORD COMPANY RECALL WAS ADVISED. I JUST BOUGHT MY 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED 3 WEEKS AGO AND I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE RPM STARTING GOING UP REALLY HIGH THE THROTTLE LIGHT(WRENCH) CAME ON AND MY CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I PULLED OVER, JUST AVOIDED GETTING SMASHED IN THE REAR FROM A TRUCK AND MY CAR STOPPED MOVING. I CUT THE CAR OFF THEN TRIED TO CRANK IT BACK UP AT FIRST IT DIDN'T START THEN IT CRANKED 2ND TIME BUT THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND STAYED ON. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT A THROTTLE CODE HE SAID HE WANTED TO GIVE IT A SECOND CHANCE. HE RESET THE CODES AND ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF. WELL, ABOUT 2 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHICH HE SAID SHOULDN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE. I CALLED HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT FORD HAVING TO ORDER THE PART AND FIX THE CAR. I WENT ON SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER FORD 500 HUNDRED CUSTOMERS WERE/ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND WHEN THEY TRIED TO GET IT FIXED IT ONLY RE-APPEARED AGAIN LATER. WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, CAR WILL LUNGE BACK A FEW FEET. JUST LAST WEEK, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A STORE AND IT LUNGED FIVE TIMES BEFORE I TOOK IT OUT OF REVERSE AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE. IT LUNGED AGAIN FORWARD AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. IF MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO LUNGE UNLESS IT IS STOPPED EITHER BY BRAKING OR HITTING SOMETHING. WHEN IN A DRIVE-THRU, WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, PEOPLE HAVE STATED IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE AND IT COULD COST 500.00 + DOLLARS TO REPAIR. IT IS A FACTORY MISTAKE THAT FORD IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I WAS ADVISED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA JUST IN CASE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE ARE TAKING THE CAR IN TO SEE IF WE CAN AFFORD THE REPAIR ON OUR OWN NEXT WEEK. IF IT IS THE THROTTLE AND DOES COST AS MUCH AS OTHERS HAVE CLAIMED, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR.
STARTING AROUND MARCH 2011, MY 2007 FORD 500 WOULD LURCH WHEN I MOVED IT FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR FROM PARK TO DRIVE. IT SEEMED TO GET WORSE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY "CLEANED" THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS DID NOT REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEN, THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. IT NOW LURCHES WHEN I AM SITTING STILL. IF THE BRAKE IS NOT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, IT WILL LURCH SEVERAL INCHES. I HAVE ALMOST HAD SEVERAL WRECKS BECAUSE OF THIS. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR. IT NOW HAS 95,000 MILES ON IT BUT IS NOT PAID OFF YET. I WAS QUOTED $800 TO FIX THE THROTTLE BODY. I FEEL LIKE WITH THE EXTENT OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS PART, FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS PRODUCT ON ALL OF THESE VEHICLES. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE A FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED WITHIN THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

I PURCHASED A FORD 500 07 IN MARCH OF 2010. PRIOR TO THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY ENDING, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TWICE FOR A SURGING PROBLEM GOING FROM DRIVE/REVERSE. THE FIRST TIME THE SHOP COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME THE SERVICE MGR. AND DAUGHTER DID A TEST DRIVE. RIGHT OFF THE BAT THE CAR SURGED. WE JUST STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR LUNGING FORWARD, AND BACKWARDS, AND ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. WE ALMOST HAD TWO ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE CAR SURGING LIKE THIS. HAD THE DEALERSHIP RUN THE DIAGNOSIS, WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDED REPLACING. HAD THE REPAIR WORK DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 12, 2010. ON AUGUST 30, 2011, TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM REPEAT, ONLY MORE AGGRESSIVE FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT JUST TWO DAYS AGO, EVEN AS I PULLED INTO THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE PARKING SPACE. WAS TOLD THEY WILL HAVE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM AGAIN, NOTHING IS UNDER WARRANTY. I AM JUST OVER THE 12 MONTHS, AND AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES AFTER THE REPAIR WAS DONE LAST YEAR. WARRANTY OR NOT, THIS REPAIR SHOULD HAVE LASTED THE LIFE OF THE CAR OR AT LEAST ANOTHER 70,000 MILES, NOT 30,000. I DIDN'T HAVE THE DEALERSHIP KEEP THE OLD THROTTLE BODY. THE WARRANTY COMPANY HAD TOLD ME LAST YEAR THAT THE PART, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS ON BACK ORDER, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING THE PART, SUPPOSEDLY. REPAIR ORDER DETAIL - INTERNAL COPY READS "INSPECTED AND TESTED VEHICLE FOR ACCELERATING WITHOUT A COMMAND. RAN SELF TEST TO RETRIEVE PASS CODES. INSTALLED MONITOR AND FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TO ROAD TEST. TESTING RESULTED FINDING THE THROTTLE MOTOR BINDING INTERMEDIATELY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REMOVED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE. THE PROCESSOR WAS REPROGRAMMED AND RETESTED TO VERIFY OPERATION." I HAD TO PAY FOR FUEL INJECTION SERVICE, REPLACE FUEL FILTER, WHICH I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO HAVE DONE WITH THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
