[1] 2000 FORD FOCUS ZX3, 27,500 MILES, NO KNOWN EVENTS PRIOR TO FAILLURE [2] WILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON I-65 THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SUSPENSION SPRING FAILED, DROPPED INTO THE WHEEL AND SHREDDED THE TIRE. VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY BORDERING ON BEING OUT OF CONTROL. LIFTING THE ACCELERATOR ALLOWED THE CAR DECREASE IN SPEED AND WAS BROUGHT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TOW AND DELAY OF 24 HOURS TO SECURE PARTS ENSUED. COIL SPRING WAS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED ADJACENT TO A METAL PLATE THAT RECEIVED THE SPRING AS PART OF THE STRUT ASSEMBLY, AT AN AREA CONTAINED IN A PLASTIC SLEEVE. [3] COIL SPRING, STRUT AND TIRE REPLACED. PARTS PHOTOGRAPHED IN PLACE PRIOR TO REPAIR, SPRING AND STRUT RETAINED.*AK
MY SON WAS ALMOST KILLED ALONG WITH DRIVERS ON THE FREEWAY BELOW THE OVERPASS HE WAS ON WHEN A 2 WEEK OLD TIRE BLEW AND HE INSTANTLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IN VIEWING THIS TIRE, I FOUND IT TO LOOK AS IF IT HAS DRY ROT ALL AROUND IT. LITTLE TINY HOLES UNDERNEATH THE TREADS ALL AROUND AS IF EATEN AWAY BY TERMITES OR SOMETHING. FOR A NEW TIRE IT IS OLDER LOOKING THAN THE OTHER 6 MONTH OLD TIRES. I KNOW NO ONE WHO WOULD LAB TEST THE MATERIAL, BUT IN MY GUT SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG WITH IT. IT BLEW FROM UNDERNEATH A THICK NEW TREAD THAT HAS NO PUNCTURES ON TOP. IT IS A FIRESTONE/FIREHAWK P205/50R16, DOT# W2W11TB0804. MY CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS, BUT MY SON MADE IT THROUGH OK THANK GOD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER MGR I PURCHASED IT FROM AND HE OUTRIGHT DISAGREED AND STARTED TO TAKE THE TIRE FROM ME SAYING HE WOULD HAVE THIER LAB TEST IT, BUT I HAVE LITTLE TRUST FOR THIER LAB. I NEED HELP IN REVIEWING THIS. I HAVE NO CAR AND I FEEL IT IS BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE TIRE. INSURANCE DOES NOT PAY COMPRABLE TO THE VEHICLE YOU HAD. I HAD ONLY ONE LAST PAYMENT TO GO. MY SON AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. BUYING TIRES IS LIKE A GAME OF RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH LIFE AND DEATH. IT SEEMS WE ALL JUST ACCEPT THAT FACT.*AK
DT: 2000 FORD FOCUS LX, IGNITION FROZE. PROBLEM OCCURRED BEFORE. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT CONSUMER HAD THE IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON MAY 26, 2004. THIS PROBLEM GRADUALLY BECAME WORSE. AT FIRST THE IGNITION WAS A LITTLE HARD TO TURN. WITHIN A WEEK THE CONSUMER COULD NOT EVEN TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED IT INCLUDED THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. THERE WERE NO KNOWN OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL, THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS EFFECTIVE. A RECALL HAS BEEN HONORED FOR THIS VEHICLE AND PART; HOWEVER, CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE IS "WORSE THAN BEFORE." *LA
IGNITION IS GETTING STUCK MORE AND MORE OFTEN. THE KEY WON'T TURN, STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED.
IN MARCH 2002, MY 2000 FORD FOCUS LX HAD THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UP AND THE IGNITION LOCK UP SO THAT I COULD NOT TURN THE KEY OR START MY CAR. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ENDED UP HAVING TO DRILL OUT THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER, REBUILD IT, AND REPLACE BROKEN STEERING COLUMN PARTS. NOW YESTERDAY, MAY 23, 2004, THE SAME THING OCCURRED - STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, KEY WOULD NOT TURN, CAR WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO TOW IT AGAIN TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP, AND GET THE PARTS REPLACED AGAIN.*AK
IGNITION SWITCH WON'T ALLOW KEY IN ALL THE WAY. *AK
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT ABOUT FIVE IN THE AFTERNOON ON MAY 20, 2004 AT THE BEGINNING OF RUSH-HOUR IT WAS SUNNY, AND I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 70 MPH. SUDDENLY, I STARTED TO SMELL AND SEE SMOKE ON THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. I STARTED TO PULL OVER INTO THE RIGHT LANE. THEN, THE TIRE WENT, AND I BRAKED AS I WAS PULLED OFF INTO THE SHOULDER. UPON EXAMINING THE TIRE, I FOUND THAT IT HAD BEEN SHREDDED. I TRIED TO THEN CHANGE THE TIRE, WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE COIL SPRING BROKE OFF AND PUNCTURED THE TIRE. CONSEQUENTLY, THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE COIL SPRINGS ON BOTH SIDES TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE NEW TIRE AND THE BALANCING. *AK
WELL DOCUMENTED FAILURE OF THE 2000 FORD FOCUS IGNITION CYLINDER. MINE FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND FORD ONLY OFFERED A 50/50 COVERAGE OPTION. *AK
DRIVING THROUGH A PAVED PARKING LOT, RAN-OVER A SMALL STORM DRAIN WITH THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR. THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING SNAPPED IN THE AREA OF A PLASTIC COVERING. TURNING THE CAR WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO THE MIS-PLACEMENT OF THE SPRING. A NEW SPRING WAS PURCHASED, FORD SAID THEIR SPECIAL WARRENTY DID NOT APPLY TO THIS CAR. OLD PART IS AVAILABLE.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DRIVER'S HOME BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART IT, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP DUE TO A MIXTURE OF GASOLINE AND CORROSION. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT COULD PHYSICALLY MOVE THE STEERING COLUMN UP AND DOWN THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOOSE AND WAS TIGHTENED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC'S SHOP. MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FORD DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAILURES, BUT AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC. FORD INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD FOR THEM TO ASSIST, DESPITE ITS LOW MILEAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.
THE IGNITION SWITCH LOCKS UP AND YOU CAN'T GET THE KEY IN. THIS HAPPENED IN 2001 AND NOW THIS MONTH. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRATY. I HAVE TALKED TO MANY PEOPLE AS WELL AS THE DEALERSIP AND THEY SAY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. I WANTED SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM AS I HAVE ALSO FOUND MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. WHEN THEY FIXED IT THE FIRST TIME IT MUST HAVE BEEN WITH THE SAME MANUFACTURE PART BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM TWICE IS JUST STRANGE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED DRIVER'S SEAT ROCKED FORCIBLY DURING ACCELERATION AND STOPPING. *AK
LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH HAS FAILED TO FUNCTION. DOOR WILL NOT LATCH RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO TRANSPORT CHILDREN. THIS IS THE LATEST IN A HISTORY OF RECALLS AND COMPONENT FAILURES THAT LEAD ME TO CONSIDER SUING FORD UNDER NY'S LEMON LAW. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO SELL THIS VEHICLE AND AM NOW UNABLE TO DUE TO THIS LATEST PROBLEM. *AK
FORD FOCUS 2000 IGNITION KEY WOULD NOT START CAR....BIG PROBLEM. *AK
2000 FOCUS TIRES WERE PULLING. *TS ***NAR*** THE RIMS WERE BENT AS A RESULT OF THE TIRES PULLING. *JB
CAR WAS DRIVING FINE, WENT SHOPPING AND WHEN I CAME OUT OF THE STORE, THE KEY WOULD NOT GO COMPLETELY INTO THE IGNITION. MY HUSBAND JIGGLED THE KEY AROUND HARD AND FINALLY GOT IT IN, BUT KEY WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. I JUST FOUND OUT THIAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. *AK
SECOND IGNITION KEY CYLINDER HAS GONE OUT ON AUTO W/LESS THAN 28,000 MILES. BOTH WERE EXPENSIVE OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIRS AND OCCURRED WITHIN ONE YEAR. APPEARS YOU HAVE ABOUT 150 COMPLAINTS RE: THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET A RECALL? *AK
CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
OUR 2000 FORD FOCUS HAS HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS.THE MOST RECENT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE. IT STARTED WITH STALLING OUT OCCASIONALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR MAKING A HARD RIGHT TURN AND USUALLY WHEN THERE WAS LITTLE GAS IN THE TANK. ABOUT A MONTH AGO OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER WE FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS. SINCE THEN WEMORE FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCED HESITATION PROBLEMS AND STALLING. TWO WEEKS AGO OUR CAR STARTED HESITATING BADLY WHILE IDLING, CAUSING THE WHOLE CAR TO SHAKE AND THEN IT WOULD STALL, NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN THE TANK.IT ALSO HAS POWER SURGES MAINLY AT LOW SPEEDS. WE CALLED THOMASON FORD AND LET THEM KNOW OF THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING AND THAT WE RECIEVED A LETTER FROM FORD REGARDING THE FUEL PUMPBEING DEFECTIVE CAUSING THE FUEL FILTERS TO BECOME CLOGGED. WE TOOK OUR CAR IN TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR IS WORSE THEN WHEN WE TOOK IT IN.*AK
I HAD TO HAVE MY IGNITION SWITCH DRILLED OUT OF MY 2000 FORD FOCUS LAST YEAR SINCE THE KEY WOULD NOT EVEN ENTER. LESS THAN ONE YEAR LATER I HAD TO GET THE SWITCH REPLACED AGAIN SINCE I COULD NOT TURN IT.*AK
THE FRONT WINDOW DEVELOPED A LEAK RIGHT IN THE TOP CENTER. WATER WAS RUNNING OUT OF THE DOME LIGHT AREA. I HAVE NO FIXED IT PROPERLY YET BUT IT IS A CONCERN THAT IT WILL SHORT OUT THE DOME LIGHT AND CAUSE A FIRE.*AK
FIRST PROBLEM STARTED WITH VEHICLE STALLING- FOUND OUT THAT FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY. PUMP WAS REPLACED BECAUSE OF RECALL. SECOND PROBLEM STARTED WITH NO WARNING- REMOTE FOR DOOR LOCKS/HATCH BACK/ANTI-THEFT STOPPED WORKING AND AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ALSO STOPPED WORKING. EVEN AFTER REPLACING BATTERY IN BOTH REMOTES STILL DOES NOT WORK. AT THE SAME TIME KEYLESS ENTRY STOPPED WORKING I NOTICED THAT WHEN I TURN ON MY REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER THE REAR HATCH OPENS. I FEAR THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF DRIVING DURING RAIN CAN'T USE REAR WIPER OR HATCH CAN OPEN AND ANYTHING IN REAR OF VEHICLE COULD FALL OUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE NOTIFY ME IF THIS IS A RE-OCCURRING PROBLEM AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY IT. *JB
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENED ON ITS OWN. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. CONSUMER CLOSED THE DOOR, AND THE DOOR REOPENED ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
IT WAS HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO GET THE IGNITION KEY RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH . DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK LOCK/IGNITION CORE FAILED TO RESPONT TO KEY AND THE CONSUMER WAS STRANDED AT NIGHT. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION EVENTUALLY THE KEY WOULD NOT EVEN GO IN THE IGNITION. THE CONSUMER COULD NOT START THE VEHICLE NOR TURN ON THE POWER TO ROLL UP THE POWER WINDOWS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT ONLINE RESOURCES HAVE SHOWN THIS TO BE COMMON TO FORD FOCUS. *TC
RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE COIL SPRING FAILED AT BOTTOM OF SPRING UNDERNEATH PLASTIC SLEEVE. SPRING FAILED AT LOW SPEED IN PARKING LOT.*AK
2000 FORD FOCUS FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE TURNING INTO A GAS STATION. FORD HONORS SOME OF THE FOCUS'S AS A CUSTOMER FRIENDLY WARRANTY ONLY CARS MADE UP TO DECEMBER OF 1999. MY CAR WAS MADE IN MAY OF 2000 SO IT DOES NOT MEET THE PROGRAM AS THEY PUT IT BUT YET THE SAME ISSUES AND PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. 708 CLAIMS SINCE DEC. 2003 WHERE COVERED IF YOUR CAR WAS MANUFACTURED BEFORE 2000. FORD WELL AWARE OF THE FAULTY SPRINGS PURCHASED OVER IN EUROPE. NOT ABLE TO HANDLE AMERICAN ROUGH ROADS WITH POOR CORROSION PROTECTION AND INEXPENSIVE STEEL CAUSING THEM TO BREAK WHILE TRAVELING. FORD FEELS IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND WILL NOT DO A RECALL. *NM
WHILE DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A CRACK. *AK *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE GAS TANK COLLAPSED (IMPLODED), BREAKING THE TANK AT THE O-RING AREA. THE TANK AND O-RING ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. *NM
WASHED CAR AT LOCAL CAR WASH, AND CAR RAN FINE. GOT HOME TO DO FINISHING TOUCHES AND KEPT CAR RUNNING. LOW ON FUEL, A LITTLE UNDER THE 1/4 LINE, BUT RAN FINE. WENT BACK OUT ABOUT FOUR HOURS LATER TO GO GROCERY SHOPPING, AND CAR WOULD NOT START. ALL THE LIGHTS AND DINGING WOULD COME ON, BUT THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. FOR 2 DAYS MY CAR SAT IN THE PARKING LOT NOT STARTING. I WOULD GO OUT IN THE MORNING TO TRY AND START IT, AND IT WOULD ALMOST START, BUT WOULDN'T. I HAD AAA TOW MY CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WHEN IT GOT THERE, THEY CALLED ME AND ASKED WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO. THEY GOT THE CAR OFF THE TRUCK AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. THEY ARE KEEPING MY CAR OVER NIGHT TO TRY AND START IT IN THE MORNING. I FEEL REALLY DUMB NOW AND BAD FOR WASTING THEIR TIME. WHAT COULD THE PROBLEM BE?
CONSUMER STATED INTERMITTENTLY IGNITION KEY LOCKED UP IN THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND WOULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE OR TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE PLACING THE KEY INSIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL VEHICLE DID NOT START. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS THAT IS EXPERIENCE 2 ISSUES THAT RELATE TO SAFTEY RECALLS. FORD IS SAYING THEY WILL NOT REPAIR DUE TO THE CAR HAVING A BRANDED TITLE, THEY WILL ONLY ADDRESS EMISSIONS RELATED ISSUES.*AK SINCE THESE ARE SAFETY RELATED (FUEL PUMP AND REAR BEARING), IS THERE ANYWAY TO HAVE FORD CORRECT THESE ISSUES? I CAN NOT EVEN BUY THE PARTS MYSELF FROM ANY PARTS STORE ONLY FROM FORD.
MY 2000 FORD FOCUS WAGON THAT I PURCHASED IN NOV OF 2003 BURNED IN MY WORK PARKING LOT WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT WITH NO WARNING, NO SUSPICIOUS NOISES OR PROBLEMS. I DROVE TO WORK, PARKED IN THE LOT, WALKED IN, AND AS SOON AS I LOGGED ON TO MY COMPUTER SECURITY WAS CALLING TO INFORM ME THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE CAR BURNED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA COMPLETELY WITHIN 15 MINUTES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT IT STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SECURITY SAID FROM THEIR VIDEO THAT IT ALSO SHOWED TO HAVE STARTED IN THE ENGINE. THE FLAMES SHOT UP OVER 10 FEET WITHIN MINUTES OF THE FIRE BEING NOTICED. WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED I REFUSED TO BUY IT WITHOUT A WARRANTY SO THE DEALERSHIP GAVE US A 12 MONTH OR 12,000 MILE WARRANTY (AND WE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED) BUT NOW THEY ARE SAYING THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF ANYTHING BUT THE EASYCARE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WE PURCHASED. WE FIND THIS STRANGE SINCE WE HAVE HAD 2 "WARRANTY" REPAIRS AT NO CHARGE SINCE THE PURCHASE AND THERE WAS NEVER ANY QUESTION BEFORE. THE INSURANCE COMPNAY HAS ASKED THAT WE GO TALK TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS EVENING ONE MORE TIME TO TRY TO STRAIGHTEN THIS OUT BEFORE THEY PAY IT AND WE LOOSE MONEY AS WELL AS HAVING OUR PREMIUMS GO UP. ONE OF MY OTHER BIG CONCERNS IS THAT OUR OTHER VEHICLE IS ALSO A FORD AND IT HAS DEPRECIATED BY SOME 10,000 DOLLARS SINCE WE PURCHASED IT IN JUNE OF 03 NEW SO WE CANNOT TRADE IT IN ANYWHERE OR SELL IT WITHOUT BEING SO UPSIDE DOWN AS TO HURT OURSELVES. I PERSONALLY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONFIDENCE IN FORD AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE FROM THEM AGAIN. FORD FOCUS ZX3 2000 - LIKE HUNDREDS OF OTHER FOCUS OWNERS, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY FOCUS TOWED BECAUSE THE KEY WILL NOT FIT ALL THE WAY INTO THE IGNITION - COST TO ME IS $225 +$75 TOWING ON A FLAT BED. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THIS - THE CAR JUST WILL NOT START. FORD REFUSES TO COVER OR LOWER ANY COSTS, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM HAPPENING TO NUMEROUS FOCUS OWNERS. I HAD A VOLKSWAGEN GOLF FOR 11 YEARS BEFORE I SOLD IT TO BUY A FOCUS. I WON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN. ALSO, THE FUEL PUMP PSUEDO RECALL IS ANOTHER GREAT RIP OFF. I RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT POSSIBLE FAULTY FUEL PUMP IN THE 2000 FOCUS. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT HAVING THIS PROBLEM FIXED (MY CAR IS SPUTTERING) THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ME $75 TO CHECK IT OUT AND IF I CAN'T PROVE IT'S THE FUEL PUMP THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. MY CAR IS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD AND HAS 16,500 MILES ON IT. TOO MANY RECALLS TO EVEN REMEMBER. GREAT PRODUCT, CUSTOMER SERVICE, FORD! *AK
2000 FORD FOCUS...PURCHASED NEW IN MAY 2000.....PRESENTLY HAS 30,350 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD THREE OF THE FOUR AUTOMATIC WINDOWS BREAK WITHIN THE PAST TEN MONTHS. THE FIRST ON BROKE IN JUNE, POSSIBLY JULY 2003 (BACK LEFT WINDOW), THE NEXT ONE TO BREAK WAS THE BACK RIGHT WINDOW, AND TODAY , APRIL 30, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IS BROKEN. MOTOR STARTS TO GRIND AND THEN STOPS RESPONDING TO THE ON/OFF BUTTON AND WILL NOT MOVE THE WINDOW...WHICH THEN SLIPS ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO THE DOOR PANEL. SINCE MY CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T SEEM TO THINK THAT HAVING THREE DIFFERENT WINDOWS MALFUNCTION ODD. I DO NOT HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN THAT ROLL THE WINDOWS UP AND DOWN AN UNUSEUAL NUMBER OF TIMES...IN FACT, I SELDOM ROLL DOWN THE BACK WINDOWS AND ONLY USE THE DRIVER'S WINDOW WHEN GOING TO THE BANK, OR SUCH THINGS. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE WITH ALL OF THE RECALLS AND OTHER PROBLEMS THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THAT THIS IS NOT YET ANOTHER ONE. *LA
DT: THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRINGS BROKE. WHEN THIS OCCURRED IT STOPPED THE CAR AND PUNCTURED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR BILL COST $1000. THE TIE ROD END WAS DAMAGED ALONG WITH THE STRUTS, UPPER BEARING PLATES, FRONT STABILIZER RINGS, TIRE, A NEW RIGHT SIDE AXLE, AND CONTROL ARM. THEY WERE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS THAT CAUSED THE AFOREMENTIONED FAILURES. IN 11/04 THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS AND THE CONSUMER WAS NOTIFIED BY RECALL LETTER. RECALL REPAIRS HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE IN APRIL WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. CONSUMER TOOK REPAIR BILL AND RECALL LETTER TO DEALER, AND THEY SUBMITTED IT TO FORD. HOWEVER, FORD SENT BACK A CHECK FOR $480 BUT NOT THE $1000 THE CONSUMER SPENT. THEY ONLY PAID FOR THE COILS AND SOME OTHER WORK, BUT CLAIMED THAT SOME OF THE OTHER REPAIRS WERE UNNECESSARY. THE CONSUMER WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT ATTEMPTING TO FORCE FORD TO PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS THAT WERE DONE. *AK *JB
2000 FORD FOCUS, RIGHT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. CAR ONLY HAD 44,849 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE COIL LOOKED "VERY" OLD AND WORN FOR THAT NEW OF A VEHICLE. HAS THIS BEEN A PROBLEM FOUND ON THESE VEHICLES. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY VS A PARKING LOT, THERE WOULD PROBABLY BEEN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. *AK
AFTER THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE ENGINE STALLING RECALL 03V482000, THE VEHICLE STALLS. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT CANNOT LOCATE A PROBLEM. *NM
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE ACCELERATED. *AK
WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN MY IGNITION, IT WILL NOT TURN. I CANNOT UNLOCK MY STEERING WHEEL OR START MY CAR. *LA
KEY CAN BE INSERTED INTO IGNITION, IGNITION CYLINDER FROZEN, UNABLE TO TURN KEY AT ALL. TOWED TO GARAGE. REPLACED WITH NEW CYLINDER. TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME THIS WAS THE 4TH FOCUS THAT HE HAS TOWED THIS WEEK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK
THE FRONT COIL SPRING WAS RUBBING/CUTTING INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. *AK THE COIL SPRING HAD FRACTURED AND BECAME WEDGED AGAINST THE TIRE. THIS FAILURE LEFT THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE BECAUSE IT RESTRICTED MOVEMENT AND STEERING. *SC *JB
DURING A AUTO COLLISION THE AIRBAGS IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS SE DID NOT DEPLOY. I HIT A DIVIDER WITH MY FRONT END AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT WORK. *AK
CAR CUT OFF AT INTERSECTION IN PHILADELPHIA, IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND ACTED AS IF IT HAD RUN OUT OF GAS. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT WOULD GO ABOUT 4 BLOCKS AND SHUT OFF AGAIN. I DID THIS 5X BEFORE I ACTUALLY GOT HOME. ALSO, THE INTERIOR DASH AREA WAS VERY HOT. I ALMOST CALLED THE FIRE DEPT., BUT THERE WASN'T A FIRE. INVESTIGATION DATE CLOSED 1/16/04 PER NHTSA AND VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME 2/16/04. I WAS NOT TOLD OF ANY SUCH PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO PURCHASE. DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. MY 2D PAYMENT IS DUE MAY 1ST TO AMERICREDIT.*AK
2000 FORD FOCUS. MY KEY HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND HAS HAD TO BE REPARIED THREE TIMES IN THE PAST THREE YEARS. EACH TIME I AM STRANDED AND NEED TO BE TOWED. ONCE I PAID $700.00 AND THIS CURRENT FIXING WILL BE $450.00 AT THE DEALER. *AK
1) STALLING, STUTTERING AND OR SLOW ACCELERATION 2) GAUGES AND LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE ARE FLUCTUATING AS THEY WISH. HE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES SO THEY COULD DIAGNOSIS AND WORK ON THE PROBLEM. 1ST TIME THERE WAS A RECALL PERFORMED ON THE FDM (FUEL DELIVERY MODULE). 2ND TIME THEY GAVE IT A COMPUTER UPDATE AND THEN ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BEGAN TO OCCUR. THIRD TIME THEY SENT ME AWAY SAYING THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM. 2 WEEKS LATER WITH ALL THE SYMPTOMS GIVING LOTS OF PROBLEMS (SHUTTERING AND STUTTERING, CAR STALLED MANY TIMES WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE ETC.). FINALLY IT QUIT ALL TOGETHER WHEN ELECTRICALLY IT BLEW UP OR SHORTED OUT SOMEWHERE. ALL THE GAUGES WERE FLUCTUATING EMPTY TO FULL,0 TO 100 MPH, AIR BAG ILLUMINATED ETC. CABIN LAMPS WENT CRAZY. THE CAR SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING IN THE CABIN. FOUND NO BURNT OR MELTED WIRES. I CALLED THE DEALER TO GET THEM TO PICK UP THE CAR AND THEY TOLD ME THE BATTERY WENT DEAD. WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT NOW BEING THE FOURTH TIME THEY SAID IT NEEDED NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY ARE TELLING ME SO I PULLED THIS VEHICLE OUT OF THEIR CARE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK. WHEN THIS OCCURRED VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 90 MPH. THERE WAS NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER ,SO HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COASTING TO A STOP. *AK
I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THAT MY 2000 FORD FOCUS HAS STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES IN INTERSECTIONS AND ON THE ROAD AND IS NOW BEING SERVICED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS SAFE FOR ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR CONSIDERING THE PROBLEM?*AK PLEASE LET ME KNOW? BEST WISHES JUDAH.
