MY 2001 FORD FOCUS HAS STALLED AGAIN. THIS IS ABOUT THE 4TH TIME. LOCAL MECHANIC FOUND PROBLEM TO BE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT IS ONLY BATTERY REPLACEMENT. I HAVE ALL OLD PARTS FROM RECENT SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS VEHICLE RECALLED. FOUND INTERNET ARTICLE THAT STATES THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL. MY BRAKES FAILED DUE TO LIP AND WARPAGE CREATED ON FRONT ROTORS. BRAKES FAILED WITHIN 10,000 MILES OF NORMAL DRIVING. BRAKES WERE REPLACED AGAIN AND OLD LIPPED ROTORS AVAILABLE. THIS WAS THE THIRD SET ON MY CAR WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES. *NM
SUDDEN LOCK-UP OF IGNITION SWITCH, REQUIRING TOW TO FORD DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION CYLINDER.*AK
I HAVE HAD MORE REPAIRS INCIDENCES WITH 2001 FORD FOCUS THAN IS NORMAL ON ANY CAR. IF MOST OF THE REPAIRS HAD BEEN IN THE FIRST 18 MONTHS I COULD HAVE EASILY DECLARED A LEMON. UNFORTUNATLEY THEY HAVE BEEN SINCE THAT TIME. MOST RECENTLY I HAVE HAD THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME ON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR AND AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. I WENT THROUGH OVER 3 FULL SETS OF TIRE IN LESS THAN A YEAR AND A HALF. AND LESS THAN A YEAR AGO I GOT PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE BECAUSE I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO LIGHTS IN THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE. FORD DEALER CHARGED ME TO REPLACE THE REAR LIGHT HOUSING AND SOME WIRE THAT HAD SHORTED OUT.*AK
IGNITION CYLINDER FAILED AND KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO START THE CAR. I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF OF WORK AND GOT IT MY CAR TO GO HOME AND MY KEY WOULDN'T NOT TURN OVER. I HAD TO SIT IN MY CAR FOR ALMOST AN HOUR IN FREEZING WEATHER UNTIL SOMEONE COULD COME AND GET ME. *JB
THE REAR DRIVERSIDE DOOR OF MY 2001 FORD FOCUS SE BEGAN TO NOT WORK. I NOTICED THE DOOR WAS AJAR WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I PULLED OVER TO CLOSE IT AND IT WOUDL NOT CLOSE. IT CONTINUED TO BOUNCE OPEN.*AK I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE LATCH WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $204.00. I USED THE DOOR MAYBE TWO TIMES A WEEK. THE MECHANIC THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT THE LATCHES ON THE FOCUS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. HE SAID THEY RUST OUT TO THE POINT OF NOT WORKING. OF COURSE I'M A LITTLE PEEVED. I BOUGHT MY FIRST BRAND NEW CAR AND THE DOOR LOCK RUSTS OUT AFTER THREE YEARS! I'VE OWNED 10 YEAR-OLD CARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. I THINK IT'S A DEFECT OF FORD AND THEY SHOULD COVER THE COST. I'M JUST THANKFUL, NO ONE HAD TO RIDE IN MY BACK SEAT AND HAVE THE LOCK FAIL.
FUEL PUMP IN MY 2001 FORD FOCUS FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. FORD OFFERED ME NO REASONABLE SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS ONLY 26,000 MILES, AND IS 1 MONTH OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY. FORD APPARENTLY HAS A RECALL FOR JUST THIS PROBLEM, BUT CLAIMED THAT MY CAR IS NOT AFFECTED.*AK
THE CONSUMER NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE NOISE WAS DUE TO FAILURE OF THE WHEEL BEARINGS. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 FORD FOCUS AND THE IGNITION SWITCHED LOCKED ON ME AND COSTS 500.00 AT THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED. I ALSO HAVE A FORD TAURUS AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT A REP AT THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED THAT INSTEAD OF HAVING THEM TO FIX IT TO BUY THE PART (WHICH WAS ABOUT 70.00) AND HAVE SOMEONE ELSO TO PUT IT IN. THIS COST ABOUT 120.00 IN TOTAL. ALSO I HAD A WRECK IN THE FORD FOCOS AND IT SO HAPPENS THAT MY RENTAL CAR WAS A FORD FOCUS AND I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS AND 1 DAY THE IGNITION LOCKED UP. I CALLED FORD AND THE REP LAUGHED AND SAID "OH YEAH THAT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, WE ARE AWARE OF IT BUT THERES NOTHING WE CAN DO". I WAS STRANDED FOR 3 HOURS BECAUSE I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL A FLATBED WRECKER TRUCK WAS AVAILABLE, BECAUSE WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH LOCKS SO DO THE WHEELS AND THEREFORE THE CAR CANNOT BE ROLLED. BUT ANYWAYS 3 OF THE SAME CARS ALL WERE LEMONS. THEY ALL PRODUCED THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS, AND IT SEEMS AS IF I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEMS AND IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT THEREIS NO RECALL FROM FORD FOR THIS ISSUE. BUT AS THEIR REP CONFIRMED THEY ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATION.
I WALKED TO MY CAR ONE EVENING AFTER CATCHING UP WITH SOME FRIENDS. WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR I COULD NOT TURN THE KEY TO START THE IGNITION. THE ENITRE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP INCLUDING THE BRAKES. NOT ONLY DID I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP, BUT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED MY "IGNITION LOCK". WHEN I WENT TO PAY FOR THE WORK, THE CASHIER SAID THAT THEY HAVE TO REPLACE AT LEAST ONE "IGNITION LOCK" A DAY AT THE DEALERSHIP. NOW MY RADIO HAS BEEN SHORTING OUT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT WORKED ON MY CAR AND THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TWO PROBLEMS. *AK
VEHICLE FIRE SUSTAINED ON 2001 FORD FOCUS AFTER REPLACEMENT OF A VALVE GASKET COVER AT HOLLINGSWORTH RICHARD FORD IN BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA. FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT OF GASKET, SMOKE WAS NOTED FROM THE HOOD. DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT SMOKE WAS DUE TO A CLEANING SOLVENT USED AFTER SERVICING THE VEHICLE AND SHOULD STOP IN ABOUT TWO DAYS. THE FOLLOWING DAY (AFTER SERVICE), THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHERE THE FIRE HAD TO BE EXTINGUISHED BY THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. MY SON AND I WERE IN THE VEHICLE AND BEARLY ESCAPED BEFORE THE FRONT OF VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. REPORT HAS BEEN FILED WITH DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A MATTER THAT SHOULD BE HANDLED BY THE INSURANCE. FORD DEALER SHOWED NOR INDICATED THEIR ACCEPTANCE OF ANY LIABILITY REGARDING THIS ISSUE. RESEARCH HAS INDICATED MANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF VEHICLES FIRES CENTERED AROUND THIS YEAR OF FOCUS.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A REPLACEMENT OF A VALVE COVER. AFTER PICKING UP VEHICLE AND DRIVING, CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONTACTED MECHANIC, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT SOLVENT USED IN REPAIR OF VALVE COVER CAUSED SMOKE, AND WILL DISAPPEAR. CONSUMER PARKED VEHICLE, AND A PASSER BY NOTICED SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED, AND FLAMES WERE EXTINGUISHED. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED THIRD DEGREE BURNS TO HER FACE, LIP, AND NECK AREA. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. *JB *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN. *AK
STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHEN KEY IS PUT IN THE IGNITION. THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CLOCK SPRING WERE REPLACED TWICE BEFORE. VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS AGAIN.*AK
2001 FORD FOCUS SE: TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE TO INVESTIGATE ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM - JOE MEYERS FORD SUPPOSEDLY FOUND PCV VALVE PROBLEM AND ATTENDANT HOSE - REMOVED AND REPLACED - PERFORMED ADDTIONAL MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATED WITH FORD ALERT RELATED TO FUEL PUMP FAILURES - TWO WEEKS LATER, ENGINE LIGHT REAPPEARS - VEHICLE RETURNED TO JOE MEYERS FORD AND REPAIRS AFFECTED TO CORRECT SHODDY WORKMANSHIP OR OTHER SEAL LEAK ASSOCIATED WITH PREVIOUS FUEL PUMP REPAIR - LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER FUEL SYSTEM FAILED SPRAYING ENTIRE FUEL TANK CONTENTS ACROSS UNDERSIDE OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING.*AK
REAR DOORS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET TO STAY CLOSED. WHEN SLAMMED,THEY DO NOT LATCH SHUT. ON ONE OCCASION, IT TOOK OVER 30 MINUTES SLAMMING THE DOORS BEFORE THEY FINALLY STAYED SHUT. *AK
VEHICLE HESITATED UPON STARTING. CONSUMER REPLACED THE BATTERY. BUT, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. FINALLY, DEALER STATED THAT FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA RECALL 03V482000 DUE TO VIN. *AK *TT
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MPH AND SUDDENLY THERE WAS A SOFT BUMPER TO BUMPER COLLISION. CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HIT THE VEHICLE THAT WAS IDLE IN FRONT. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, SHATTERING THE WINSHIELD. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, BUT WAS DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL FOR EVALUATION SINCE BEING SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT. *AK
I HAD RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT MY CAR MAY NEED TO HAVE MY FUEL FILTER REPLACED DUE TO POSSIBLE HESITATION; HOWEVER, I WAS NOT TO HAVE THIS DONE UNLESS THE SYSTEM FAILED. ON MY WAY HOME FOR THANKSGIVING, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, AND MY CAR STARTED TO SLOW...I LET OFF THE GAS, PRESSED ON THE GAS, AND FRANTICALLY PUMPED THE GAS AS CARS PASSED ME GOING 80 MPH. WHEN THE SYSTEM FAILED, I WAS OUT OF STATE, 400 MILES FROM HOME, SITTING ALONG SIDE AN INTERSTATE FULL OF HOLIDAY TRAFFIC, BUT FORD DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY CONCERN.*AK
AFTER THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE RECALL 03V482000 WAS PERFORMED THE REPLACEMENT PART FAILED. THIS WAS VERIFIED BY THE DEALERSHIP AFTER INSPECTION. *JB
DIRVE THE CAR FOR 30 MINUTES OR LONGER (ENGINE IS HOT). STOP, AND RESTART IT FROM 15 TO 30 MINUTES LATER, AND THE CAR WILL CONTINUALLY STALL SO LONG AS THE CLUTCH IS COMPLETELY DEPRESSED. THIS WILL HAPPEN VERY PREDICTABLY UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. IT IS CLEARLY TEMPERATURE RELATED, AS RESTARTING THE CAR JUST 5 MINUTES LATER WHEN STILL VERY HOT, OR AN HOUR LATER WHEN COOLED DOWN, AND THERE IS NO STALLING. DEALER (ATHOL FORD) BELIEVES IT IS RELATED TO THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE, BUT REFUSES TO FIX IT, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS TAKEN IN WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER ALSO CLAIMS TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY TSB RELATED TO THIS ISSUE.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THE IGNITION LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
NO EVENTS LEAD UP TO FAILURE. THE TUMBLERS IN THE LOCK KEEP GETTING STUCK MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO START THE CAR. WE TRIED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, BUT IT WASN'T COVERED ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED. THEY WANTED $260 TO REPLACE IT, BUT IT WILL CONTINUE TO BREAK OVER AND OVER. FROM PEOPLE I HAVE SPOKEN TO ONLINE, AND IN PERSON, THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS A LOT WITH THE FORD FOCUS. SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *AK
OCT. 13-14, 2004: ENGINE WOULD CRANK AND CRANK AND NOT START AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. AFTER MUCH CRANKING, ENGINE FINALLY WOULD START. OCT. 14 - PERSONAL MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THAT FUEL PRESSURE WAS BLEEDING OFF - FUEL WAS NOT REMAINING IN FUEL RAIL. DIRECTED ME TO TAKE IT TO FORD DEALER FOR FUEL PUMP RECALL 03V482000. OCT. 18 - TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, RELATED TO FORD'S RECALL PROGRAM #03N01, FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED FUEL PUMP. IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT, DEALER RECOMMENDED FUEL FILTER ALSO BE REPLACED, AT A COST TO ME OF $62.95 PLUS TAX. I APPROVED THIS. DEALER (SUNTRUP FORD) ALSO RECOMMENDED FUEL CLEANING INDUCTION SERVICE, DONE FOR $127.88. OCT. 28 - RETURNED TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. CAR HAD SPUTTERED AT STOP LIGHT TWICE, AND IDLE WHEN STOPPED HAD CHANGED FROM WHAT WAS NORMAL. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONCERN, AND REPROGRAMMED THE CAR'S COMPUTER FOR $119.90. NOV. 16 - ON TWO OCCASIONS CAR SPUTTERED AFTER STARTING WHEN ENGINE WAS WARM. ON SECOND OCCASION, CAR WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO START. AFTER IT FINALLY STARTED, I DROVE ABOUT A BLOCK, AND IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT SPUTTERING. CAR WAS TOWED TO PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP NEARBY, WHERE ON NOV. 17 MECHANIC INDICATED HE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE CONDITION. MECHANIC PROMISED TO LOOK AT CAR AGAIN ON NOV. 18. CONSEQUENCES OF FAILURE - INCONVENIENCE, POTENTIAL DANGEROUS CONDITION, OUT SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR RECOMMENDED REPAIRS (RELATED TO RECALL) AND FOR TOWING. CAR STILL NOT DIAGNOSED BECAUSE CONDITION HAS NOT BEEN DUPLICATED.*AK
I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION OF MY 2001 FORD FOCUS AND IT WOULDN'T TURN. THE STEERING COLUMN/ WHEEL IS LOCKED UP.*AK
THE IGNITION HAS LOCKED CONTINUOUSLY ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS COMPLETELY LOCKED. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH MANY VEHICLES, THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM, YET THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!!!*AK
MY IGNITION KEY OFTEN STICKS IN THE IGNITION AND CAN NOT BE REMOVED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND FORD KNOWS ALL ABOUT IT. THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE IT WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PIECE OF JUNK. IT MAKES THE CARS UNSAFE AS THEY SOMETIMES LOCK THE COLUMN AND SOMETIMES MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO RESTART THE CAR IN UNSAFE LOCATIONS, SUCH AS HIGH CRIME AREAS OR ADJACENT TO INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. IT MAKES THE CARS VULNERABLE TO THEFT. FORD WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT AND IT SEEMS EVERY FOCUS WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT AS THEY DO NOT OWN UP TO THEIR DESIGN FAILURES. *JB
EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON HAS NEVER GONE OFF SINCE, HIGHLY INCREASED RUNNING NOISE, ENGINE HESITATION THAT AT HIGHWAY SPEED IT CAUSES THE WHOLE CAR TO JERK FAILURE: I TOOK THE CAR IN AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW HEAD THAT FORD HAD REDESIGNED A NEW ONE AND IT WOULD COST $1000. THE ONE I CURRENTLY HAVE DEPOSITS CARBON AND WILL KEEP DOING SO UNTIL IT EVENTUALLY GIVES OUT. THE THING THAT IRKS ME IS FORD OBVIOUSLY KNEW THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW IF THEY DESIGNED A NEW ONE, THEREFORE I FEEL THEY SHOULD BE COVERING THIS. CORRECTIONS: NONE, CANNOT AFFORD. WILL HAVE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL THE CAR GIVES OUT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SIDE VIEW MIRROR ON THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE TRANSMISSION ALSO SLIPPED. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT DRIVE THE SAME. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED WERE NOT IN STOCK AND THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR ONE MONTH. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF ENTIRELY. THE LIGHTS WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER WHENEVER THE SIGNAL LIGHTS, HAZARD LIGHTS, OR AIR CONDITIONING WERE ACTIVATED. THE HEADLIGHTS CONTINUED TO SHORT AND, WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THE HIGH BEAMS HAD TO BE ACTIVATED. THE SEAT BELT IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SEAT WAS INOPERABLE AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT CONTINUED TO MOVE BACKWARDS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND WHILE THE IGNITION IS ON. FINALLY, NONE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ARE FUNCTIONAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
WATER LEAKS FROM SOMEWHERE INSIDE THE CAR ONTO THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BOARD. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2002. IT WAS "CORRECTED" BY A FORD AUTHORIZED DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND STILL LEAKS. WHEN EVER IT RAINS THE FLOOR BOARD FILLS WITH WATER AND WHEN THE WATER DRIES IT SMELLS OF MILDEW. LOSS OF HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REMOVE SMELL. I'M NOT SURE IF I SHOULD CONTACT A LAWYER ABOUT THE LEMON LAW.
BECAME HARDER AND HARDER TO GET IGNITION CYLINDER TO WORK PROPERLY. IT WOULD LOCK AND TAKE HALF AN HOUR OR MORE TO GET IT TO START. HAD TO REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH AND CYLINDER; REQUIRED A LOCKSMITH, A MECHANIC AND $222. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
RECALL 02V288001 CONCERNING BATTERY CABLES. CONSUMER SAID THAT THE BATTERY CABLES WERE ROUTED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE WHICH RESULTED IN AN UNDER HOOD FIRE. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RECALL DUE TO VIN EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECTS AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. *AK
COMPLAINT INVOLVES 2001 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON. LEFT TURN SIGNAL MALFUNCTIONED FOR A FEW DAYS, AND THEN THE IGNITION FROZE. UNABLE TO RELEASE THE STEERING WHEEL, I HAD THE CAR TOWED AND SUSTAINED DAMAGE FROM THE TOWING. APPARENTLY THIS DEFECT IS WELL KNOWN TO DEALERS AND TO FORD. MY CAR HAS 49K MILES ON IT AND IS NEVER ABUSED.*AK
THE IGNITION CYLINDER ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS LOCKED UP LAST NIGHT AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO START THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED, AND THE KEY WILL NOT TURN. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS I NEED TO REPLACE THE LOCK CYLINDER. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I CAN SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE, AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS MORE THAN ONCE. IF THIS IS THE CASE, FORD NEEDS TO OFFER A RECALL. PAYING $300+, PLUS TOWING IS NOT SOMETHING I WAS PLANNING ON PAYING. *AK
I HAVE DISCOVERED AFTER HAVING WHEELS REMOVED FOR TIRE ROTATION AND REPLACEMENT THAT THE LUGS: NUTS HAVE A STAMPED SHEET METAL CAP ON THEM WHICH MAKES THE PLAIN NUTS LOOK LIKE ACORN NUTS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS CAP IS RATTLED LOOSE BY THE IMPACT WRENCH AND FALLS OFF - LEAVING A NUT OF 17.4 MM ACROSS THE FLATS. SINCE THE LUG WRENCH IS 19MM, IT WILL MERELY SPIN AND ROUND-OFF THE NUTS - LEAVING DRIVER STRANDED, UNABLE TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE. I TRIED TO CONTACT FORD ABOUT THIS ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT THEIR INVITATION TO "E-MAIL US" IS A ROUSE - THEIR E-MAIL DOES NOT WORK. THE DEALER HAD TOLD ME "THEY'RE ALL LIKE THAT" AND OFFERED NOT RESOLUTION.*AK
VEHICLE SHOOK SEVERELY FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE ANYMOR, AND IT FINALLY DIED.*AK
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2001 FORD FOCUS AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT. ON 10/28/2004 I STOPPED FOR GAS WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN. AFTER RE-FUELING, WE ALL GOT BACK INTO THE CAR TO LEAVE AND THE KEY WOULDN'T TURN. MY WHOLE STERING COLUMN HAD LOCKED UP-THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T BUDGE, THE SHIFTER WAS LOCKED AS WELL AS THE BRAKE PEDEL. ALTHOUGH MANY STRANGERS TRIED TO HELP ME START MY CAR, ME ADN MY CHILDREN WERE STUCK AT THE GAS PUMP FOR OVER AN HOUR. AFTER HAVING MY CAR TOWED THE DRIVER TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS HIS SEOND FOCUS THAT DAY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HIS COMPANY TOWS SEVERAL A MONTH.
STRANDED IN PARKING LOT WHEN KEY WOUOLD NOT TURN THE IGNITION. HAD TO GET TOED TO DEALER TO GET FIXED. REAR BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CONSUMER WOULD HEAR A SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN BRAKING. *AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE PARKING LOT. CONSUMER HAS NO IDEA AS TO WHY THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK
THE IGNITION SWITH LOCK HAS SEIZED. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR. *AK
I AM EXHIBITING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2001 FORD FOCUS LX THAT MATCHES THE PROBLEMS LISTED WITH THE RECALLS FOR THE CAR. I AM HAVING POWERS SURGES, VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END, NOISES IN THE FRONT END, AND LOSS OF POWER. I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT THIS AND HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT IT. THEY KEEP SAYING THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR MY CAR. I KNOW THIS TO BE FALSE BECAUSE A FRIEND OF MINE GOT THE SAME EXACT CAR AS I DID 2 WEEKS APART FROM ME. HE HAS RECIEVED THE RECALL LETTERS AND ALREADY HAD THE PROBLEMS FIXED. I NEED HELP. *AK
WITHOUT WARNING, IGNITION LOCKS UP AND KEY WILL NOT TURN. THE CAR CANNOT BE STARTED AND MUST BE TOWED IN FOR REPAIR. THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. SINCE THE CAR CANNOT BE STARTED, THE DRIVER HAS BEEN STRANDED UNTIL THE CAR CAN BE TOWED IN AND REPAIRED. TO REPAIR THE FAILURE, THE LOCK CYLINDER MUST BE DRILLED OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND REPLACED COMPLETELY.*AK
I HAVE A 2001 FORD FOCUS AND THERE IS AN EXHAUST TUBE THAT RUNS OFF THE RIGHT SIDE (LOOKING FROM THE FRONT) OF THE MANIFOLD WHICH BROKE FROM RUSTING.
