ON MY WAY TO SCHOOL THIS EVENING ALL MY ELECTRICAL THINGS IN THE CAR STARTED FLICKERING AND THEN SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF MY VENTS. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATLY, WHILE SOMEONE WAS YELLING AT ME GET OUT OF YOUR CAR. I GOT OUT AND SAW THAT SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF MY WHOLE ENTIRE HOOD AREA. THEN IT WENT UP IN FLAMES, MELTING THROUGH THE HOOD, SCATTERING MY WINDSHIELD.
THE VEHICLE HIT A DITCH IN THE ROAD AND FRONT SUSPENSION FAILED COMPLETELY. *JB.................*AK
IGNITION CYLINDER HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. KEY WILL GO IN, BUT IS STUCK, YOU CAN NOT TURN THE KEY AT ALL TO START VEHICLE. *NLM
MY FORD FOCUS HAS BEEN HAVING ABHORRED BRAKE WEAR. I HAVE PUT 50,000 MILE ON IT AND HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS AND PADS 3 TIMES. I KNOW OF CARS GOING 80000 WITH NO PROBLEM. THERE HAS GOT TO BE SOMETHING WRONG I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE. *NLM
ON JAN 4, 2003 WHILE DRIVING IN THE FOG AT A LOW SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES OR A LITTLE LESS THE AIRBAGS IN MY 2001 FORD FOCUS INTERMITTENTLY DEPLOYED CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO BREAK AND THROWING US AND THE CAR UP ON A MERIDIAN. THE AIRBAGS WERE EMITTING BLACK SMOKE AND THE DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR AMOUNT TO $6188.00. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE NOT SERIOUSLY HURT AND THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLE INVOLVED.
FORD FOCUS 2001. PURCHASED IN AUGUST OF 2001. HAS ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH SUSPENTION. HAS BEEN IN SHOP 6 TIMES TO BE FIXED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE NOISE KEEP ON COMMING BACK. THE CAR HAS NUMBERS OF OTHER PROBLEMS. THE BREAKS MAKE NOISE, THE WINDSHIELS LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS, AND WHEN I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE STALLS SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2001 FORD FOCUS THAT SUFFERS FROM A CLOGGED FUEL PUMP. BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, MY VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED WHEN I LOST POWER AND STALLED MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. THIS CLOG IS THE RESULT OF SOME MATERIAL USED IN THE FUEL TANKS OF '99, '00 AND '01 FORD FOCUS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE STALLING SYMPTOM IN AN SSB ISSUED TO ALL FORD DEALERS SERVICE CENTERS. THE REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AND CLEAN THE TANK AT AN EXPENSE OF $500-$1000+ TO THE OWNERS. THIS MATTER HAS BEEN AN ISSUE AND DISCUSSED BY THOUSANDS OF FOCUS OWNERS AROUND THE COUNTRY ON SUCH SITES AS HTTP://WWW.FOCALJET.COM AND FOCUS FORUMS ON HTTP://WWW.YAHOO.COM. SINCE FORD ONLY ISSUED AN SSB AND NOT A RECALL, WE FEEL THIS IS OF GREAT SAFETY CONCERNS AS IT CAN AND HAS RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS. *NLM
JAN 2003 - IGNITION LOCKED AND KEY COULD NOT BE TURNED. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THE IGNITION CYLINDER HAD TO BE DRILLLED OUT AND REPLACED.AY 2003 - SAME AS ABOVEJ. UNE 2003 - SAME AS ABOVE. *AK
THE VEHICLE BRAKE ROTORS ARE WEARING AND WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED A HEAVY VIBRATION CAN BE FELT FOLLOWED BY EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *NLM
ENGINE STALLS AT ANY SPEED, DURING ANY WEATHER CONDITIONS. A ENGINE LIGHT WITH AN 'EXCLAMATION POINT' COMES ON, THE RED LIGHT NEAR THE HAZARDS BUTTON COMES ON, AND THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON WHILE THIS STALLING HAPPENS. ABOUT TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE CAR BEGINNING TO STALL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED A VALVE (RTC, I THINK) IN THE FUEL SYSTEM AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW FUEL FILTER AND THE FUEL INFECTORS CLEANED, ALL FOR ABOUT $200. I HAD THE FUEL FILTER REPLACED AT AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE AND USED TECHRON FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN THE GAS TANK. THE DA I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER, THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL AND IT COTINUES TO DO SO.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AS I WET OVER A SPEED BUMP BOTH FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. SHATTERING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. DRIVER GOT MINOR BURNS ON LEFT ARM PASSENGER WAS HIT WITH GLASS FROM WINDSHIELD. TS
I OWN A 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3. I HAVE PUT 17,100 MILES ON IT SINCE ITS PURCHASE IN MAY, 2001. AT THE LAST SERVICE, JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS OF 2002, THE FORD MECHANIC AT PRICE FORD IN MILLINGTON, TN. STATED THAT MY FRONT BRAKES & ROTORS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED SOON. THERE IS NO WAY ON EARTH THIS AMOUNT OF WEAR AND TEAR CAN OCCUR ON A CAR WITH ONLY 17,100 MILES! I HAVE OWNED 9 AUTOMOBILES IN MY LIFE AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BRAKES WEARING OUT IN UNDER 20,000 MILES! THIS MUST BE A DEFECT, OR ENGINEERING MISTAKE WITH FORD'S BRAKES! I INITIALLY THOUGHT THE MECHANIC WAS HIGH OR SOMETHING BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY THE BRAKES CAN BE WORN OUT, BUT I HAVE NEARLY WRECKED 3 TIMES SINCE THEN DUE SPECIFICALLY TO THE BRAKES HAVING NO AFFECT ON THE SPEED OF THE CAR. I'M LOOKING AT A MINIMUM OF $400 TO GET NEW ROTORS AND PADS AND LABOR TO INSTALL THE NEW PARTS. THIS IS CRAZY! YOU NEED TO INVESTIGATE THIS TO SEE WHY ME AND MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES!
I PURCHASED A 2001 FORD FOCUS SE 4-DOOR SEDAN IN NOVEMBER 2002. THE CAR WAS A MANUFACTURER BUY-BACK FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAD A SMALL WARRANTY LEFT. AT THE END OF NOVEMBER 2002, I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE SPARK PLUGS, SPARK PLUG WIRES AND A FAULTY BELT REPLACED. AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2002, THE CAR WAS MAKING A STRANGE NOISE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, SO I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. A DAY OR SO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD REGARDING THE PINCH BOLT. UNFORTUNATELY, I RECEIVED THAT RECALL NOTICE TOO LATE THE FAULTY PINCH BOLT HAD ALREADY FAILED AND CAUSED SO MUCH DAMAGE TO THE RACK AND PINION THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES. I ALSO EXPERIENCED A FAULTY VALVE IN THE HEATING SYSTEM THAT WAS ALLOWING WATER TO FLOW INTO THE CAR'S CABIN AND SOAK THE CARPETING. GETTING TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, ABOUT A WEEK AGO, THE CAR REFUSED TO ACCELERATE GOING UP A HILL AND INSTEAD THE ENGINE REVVED. NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED, I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO ACCELERATE PAST 30 MPH. SINCE THE CAR IS NOW LONG PAST ITS SMALL MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, I HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LOOK AT THE CAR. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION AND SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP THE PROBLEM. I SPENT $100 ON A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. THAT DIDN'T WORK AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CAR AND TO ASK FOR A BUYBACK, BUT MY REQUEST WAS REFUSED. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO WISCASSET FORD. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM(S) WITH THE CAR (AT NO CHARGE). I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THEY GAVE ME TWO OPTIONS FOR PAYMENT. 1) PAY FOR THE NEW TRANSMISSION OUT-OF-POCKET, ESTIMATED COST AT $2500 - $3000; 2) BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE DRIVE TRAIN FOR $500. I AM PLANNING ON PURCHASING THE EXTENDED DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY WHICH WILL ALLOW WISCASSET FORD TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION AND WILL ALSO GIVE ME AN EXTRA 15K MILES FOR THE DRIVE TRAIN.
THERE IS JUST TO MUCH PAPERWORK TO COPY OUT, BUT WOULD LIKE TO MAIL COPIES. I AM GOING TO PICK UP CAR THIS AFTERNOON JUST HAD SECOND FUEL PUMP FITTED AND NEW GAS TANK. TO DATE NO RECALL INFO RECEIVED BY POST. HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN DRENCHED WITH GAS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASSION WHILE FILLING CAR. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN KILLED WHEN CAR CUT OUT AT 55MPH ON HIGHWAY NARROWLY MISSED BY TWO OTHER MOTORISTS. VEHICLE HAS 38,000 MILES & HAS HAD THE FOLLOWING REPAIRS. 1/COUNTLESS ENGINE SENSORS 2/FOUR NEW TYRES 3/NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS 4/NEW FRONT BRAKE ROTAS 5/NEW FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS 6/TWO FUEL PUMPS 7/ONE FUEL TANK 8/WAITING FOR THIRD SET OF A FRAME PLASTIC COVERS 9/THREE STEREO PLAYERS 10/TRACKLINK RESET THREE TIMES 11/STILL HAVE REALY NOISY BRAKES 12/ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE 10 YEAR OLD CAR 13/REAR PASSENGER WINDOW WORKS WHEN FEELS LIKE IT 14/RIGHT HAND DOOR SPEAKER SOUNDS AS IF BROKEN 15/NEW TIRES FITTED SHOWING SIGNS OF ODD WEAR 16/TAIL GATE LEAKES WATER 17/ THOUGHT LINCOLN/MERCURY DEALER MIGHT GIVE BETTER RESULTS NO JUST LONGER WAIT.
SINCE THE CRASH JUST HAPPENED YESTERDAY (12/22/02), I DO NOT HAVE AN ESTIMATED REPAIR COST YET, BUT MY FEELING IS THAT EITHER THE BILL WILL BE VERY HIGH OR THE CAR WILL BE TOTALED. MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. SHE WAS DOING ABOUT 30 MPH ON THE DIRT ROAD NEAR OUR HOUSE. A DOG RAN OUT IN FRONT OF HER. SHE TRIED TO STOP QUICKLY; THE CAR SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND SHE HIT AN EMBANKMENT/DITCH. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND SHE RECEIVED 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON HER LEFT ARM FROM THE AIRBAG, AS WELL AS A BURN ON HER CHEST FROM THE SEATBELT. SHE ALSO RECEIVED A BLOODY NOSE FROM THE IMPACT OF THE AIRBAG. WE WERE ABLE TO BRING HER HOME FROM THE EMERGENCY ROOM, SO WE ARE GRATEFUL, BUT WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT HOW SHE COULD HAVE BEEN BURNED MORE SERIOUSLY.
THE REASON SOME OF THESE ARE NOT DATED IS BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS KEEP ON PERSISTING THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. MY CAR DIES ON ME AND THE CAN NOT FIND THE CAUSE. IT MAKES A WINDING SOUND WHEN I TAKE OFF AND STILL THEY CAN NOT FIND THE CAUSE. MY GEARS ALWAYS WIND AND AS SOON AS I GET IT OUT OF THE SHOP ABOUT ONE TO TWO WEEKS LATER IT IS DOING IT AGAIN, WHEN I AM DRIVING IT JERKS LIKE IT WANTS TO DIE OR GO OUT OF GEAR(KEEP IN MIND I HAVE HAD THESE PROBLEMS A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT). I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES TWO TIMES I AM ON MY THIRD SET OF TIRES AND THEY ARE MESSED UP NOW. I AM NOT A BAD DRIVER I KNOW IT IS NOT ME I HAVE A CHILD THAT IS CONSTANTLY WITH ME I DO NOT DRIVE CRAZY TO MAKE ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS HAPPEN. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE REPLACED ONCE ALREADY AND NOW THEY ARE SQEEKING AGAIN. MY CAR CIGARETTE LIGHTER KEEPS ON BURNING OUT. I JUST GET SO FRUSTRATED THAT I AM SPENDING ALL OF THIS MONEY FOR THEM TO WORK ON MY CAR WITH THE WARRANTY AND THEN TELL ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND NOW THE WARRANTY IS OUT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS PEICE OF JUNK. I HAVE HAD 2 OTHER CARS AND THEY NEVER GAVE ME ANY PROBLEMS AND KNOW I AM STUCK UNHAPPY EVERYDAY WITH THIS CAR I CAN NOT STAND TO DRIVE, I FEEL UNSAFE IN IT EVERYDAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN AND MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V482000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) THAT MIGHT BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
LOW SPEED IMPACT. 2001 FORD FOCUS REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THE 2001 FORD FOCUS. AN ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION WAS COMPLETED AND IT WAS CONCLUDED THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE FOUND THAT WOULD SHOW CAUSE FOR THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY.
ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 8, 2002 I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3 AND I WAS TRYING TO TURN ONTO THE FREEWAY AND MY CAR WOULDN'T TURN ALL THE WAY AND WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND I CRASHED INTO A CURB AND WHEN THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED MY LEFT FOREARM WAS BURNT.
I HAVE HAD MY 2001 FORD FOCUS IGNITION SWITCH LOCK UP ON ME A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES IN THE FIRST 14 MONTHS I OWED MY FOCUS. IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM, LOOK AT THE TIP OF YOUR KEY -- IS IT BEING WORN DOWN AT THE TIP? THIS IS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM -- FORD BASICALLY USED INFERIOR METAL WHEN DESIGNING THEIR KEYS FOR THE 2000-2001 FORD FOCUSES. THEY HAVE SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THIS PROBLEM IN LATER MODELS. AFTER HAVING MY IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED OR REBUILT THREE TIMES, FINALLY AFTER THE FOURTH TIME, THEY GAVE ME A NEW SET OF KEYS. BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE MY CURRENT "NEW" KEY GETS WORN DOWN ENOUGH TO LOCK UP THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN I INSERT IT. I AM IN THE MIDST OF PURSUING THE LEMON LAW ON MY CAR. I'VE ASKED FORD TO "REPURCHASE" MY CAR AND THEY HAVE COUNTERED MY OFFER TO "REPLACE" MY CAR WITH ANOTHER FOCUS -- FULLY ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE "IGNITION CYLINDER MALFUNCTION... WAS A KNOWN CONCERN IN 2001 MODELS, AND WAS UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED ON YOUR VEHICLE." THIS PROBLEM HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING RECALL-WORTHY (IN MY OPINION) BUT I HAVE NO IDEA OF HOW TO GET THAT PROCESS ROLLING! ALL I DO KNOW IS THAT ALL FOUR SEPARATE TOW TRUCK OPERATORS(WITHOUT BEING ASKED BY MYSELF) TOLD ME THAT THEY TOW 12-15 FORD FOCUSES A MONTH WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM! THAT'S RIDICULOUS! I WAS TOLD BY A KIND FORD SERVICE GUY THAT IF I EVER DO GET IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE MY IGNITION SWITCH LOCKS UP AND MY KEY WILL NOT TURN AND START MY CAR, THAT IF I LIGHTLY TAP THE END OF THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH SOMETHING HARD -- IT MAY WORK TO ALLOW IT TO TURN. SO IF YOU ARE IN A PICKLE, GIVE THIS A TRY. IF YOUR CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BE SURE TO KEEP A GOOD RECORD OF EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS TO YOU. THEN LOOK INTO THE LEMON LAW REQUIREMENTS IN YOUR STATE. *LA
WHEN GOING AROUND A SLIGHT CURVE STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED CAUSING IMPACT WITH CURB AND PERMANTLY DISABLING THE STEERING. THE CAR IS UNDRIVABLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED. RECALL WAS ISSUED 11/06/02 BUT FORD STATES THAT I WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED UNTIL 01/03. I MUST WAIT UNTIL THEN OR PAY TO HAVE CAR LOOKED AT TO DETERMINE IF FAULTY PART IS CONTAINED IN THE MOST RECENT RECALL. DT

SEAT BELT WOULD NOT STAY LOCKED. IGNITION KEY WOULD ONLY GO PART WAY INTO IGNITION, COULD NOT START VEHICLE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. DT
FOCUS WAS BROAD SIDED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BY A FULL SIZE OLDSMOBILE TRAVELING APROXIMATELY 45 MPH. THE SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. DT
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN HIT AT 30MPH IN THE FRONT CENTER OF THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES TO THE CONSUMER. DEALER NOTIFIED. PH *JG
CONSUMER STATED THE BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, JUST AS STATED UNDER RECALL#02V288000, HOWEVER DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. TS. CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER DID FIX THE BATTERY INDICATOR PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE, ALSO THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WAS REPLACED.*JB
TIRED OF HAVING TO BRING CAR IN FOR REPEAT BREAK DOWNS. DT
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING THE BRAKE PADS ARE RUBBING CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. DEALER REPLACE NUMEROUS OF TIMES BEFORE. TS
WHILE GETTING ON THE OFF RAMP WHEN I WENT TO STOP THE BRAKES *POPPED* AND FAILED COMPLETELY. I HAD TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE HAND BRAKE. HAD IT SERVICED BY FORD AND IT WAS A MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE.
ENGINE STALLING PROBLEM. AT A RUNNING SPEED OF APPROX. 45 MPH THE CAR STARTED TO BUCK AND SPUTTER AND AFTER MANAGING TO PULL IT OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, IT FINALLY STALLED. AFTER LETTING IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO START IT AND DRIVE IT ON WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED BEFORE BACK IN SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR. IT IS MY HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WILL HAVE FORD RECALL THE CAR SO THE PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED BEFORE IT CAUSES ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE CHECKED ONLINE AND APPARENTLY I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP US ALL. BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING AND RESULTIED IN DRIVERS LOSS OF CONTROL AND CRASH INTO PARKING LOT BARRIER WHICH RESULTED IN VEHICLE ROLLOVER. DT
ENGINE STALLING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON, TRANSMISSION SLIPS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SENSOR 3 TIMES.
ON NOV 6TH 2002, I HAD THE FORD FOCUS INSPECTED AT A NEW YORK STATE INSPECTION CENTER TO MEET STATE INSPECTION. NO PROBLEMS WERE DETECTED AT THAT TIME IN THE OPERATIONS OR CONSISTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. ON NOV. 11TH RETURNING FROM A 500 MILE TRIP THE BRAKE SYSYTEMS FAILED WITH TOTAL LOSS OF FRONT BRAKES AND A SEVER GRINDING IN THE FRONT DRIVERS WHEEL. UPON INSPECTION THE ROTOR WAS SEVERLY DAMAGED RESULTING IN BRAKE FAILURE. I CALLED THE NEW YORK STATE INSPECTOR CONCERNING THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WERE IN SPEC. ON NOV. THE 6TH, 2002. I CAN ONLY ASSUMED THAT I EXPERIANCED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO POOR QUALITY OF MATERIALS USED IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM OF THE FORD FOCUS. DT
CONSUMER STATES: EVERY 11 THOUSANDS MILES HAS TO CHANGE THE REAR TIRES. AT THIS MOMENT HAS CHANGED TWICE. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT RECALL ON FORD FOCUS 2001 FOR ENGINE FIRES.
WHEN ON A CLOVERLEAF INTERCHANGE FROM FREEWAY TO FREEWAY, RIGHT WHEN I BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, THE CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH. ALSO, WHEN I THEN TRY TO ACCELERATE BY PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR SLOWS DOWN OR STALLS. THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE ISSUE IS TO STOP THE CAR, TURN IT OFF, AND RESTART IT. THIS IS PARTICULARLY FREQUENT WHEN COMING OFF MN-100 AND GETTING ONTO I-394. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE. THEY KEEP SAYING IT'S THE TIRES. I HAVE PAID OVER $500 TO HAVE IT FIXED NOW AND THE CAR STILL MALFUNCTIONS. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON THE ENTIRE TIME.
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM ON 2000 AND 2001 FORD FOCUS. FORD DEALERS AND SERVICE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *LA THE CONSUMER DISCOVER THAT IF SHE REFILLED THE TANK BEFORE THE VEHICLE HA 250 MILES, THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT OCCUR. THE FIRST TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURRED THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND EVENTUALLY STALLED. IT FELT LIKE A FUEL PROBLEM PER CONSUMER, IN WHICH SHE PLACED "STP FUEL INJECTION" IN THE TANK AND FILLED IT WHICH STOPPED THE PROBLEM. RECAL#03V482000 *SC

THE CONSUMER WAS BACKING THE VEHICLE OF OUT A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK RESULTING IN A COLLISION WITH 2 OTHER VEHICLES. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE. *MR *NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOY CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO PULL OVER. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
WHILE BACKING UP SLOWLY WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR LURCHED BACKWARD WITH TREMENDOUS FORCE AND STRUCK TWO OTHER PARKED VEHICLES. THE BRAKE FAILED TO STOP IT. DT
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO PRESS THE BRAKES REAL HARD CAUSING THE AIR BAG TO DEPOY AND HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. MR
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, VEHICLE JUST STALLED OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING.THE VEHICLE STALLED AS IF IT HAD RUN OUT OF GASOLINE WITH AN ALMOST FULL TANK. AFTER LETTING THE ENGINE SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A FEW DAYS AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 15 TO 65 MPH, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, INSPECTED THE CAR, AND SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. DT
THE CAR INITIALLY STALLED UPON STARTING IN MAY OF 2002. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND A NEW FUEL PUMP WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DRIVEN UNTIL OCTOBER OF 2002, AT THAT TIME, IT STALLED IN SLOW TRAFFIC TWO TIMES IN ONE DAY. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND A SECOND FUEL PUMP WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER, WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH, PASSING A SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER ON THE INTERSTATE,THE CAR STALLED. IT TOOK 15 MINUTES TO RESTART AND WAS DRIVEN IMMEDIATELY TO THE FORD DEALER. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FROM OCTOBER 24TH UNTIL NOV 12, 2002. AT THAT TIME, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, THEY THEN PLACED ANOTHER FUEL PUMP ON THE CAR AND REMOVED THE GAS TANK. CONTAMINATION WAS FOUND IN THE FUEL TANK. IT WAS CLEANED AND A NEW SCREEN PLACED ON THE CAR. ON NOVEMBER 4, 2002, THE SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED ME AND SAID THAT HE COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. TWO DAYS LATER I READ THE ODI RESUME ON THE FORD FOCUS INVESTIGATION EA02-02 BASIS PE02-040. DT
THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAS A BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL. FIRESTONE DOES NOT HAVE AVAILABLE SIZE TO REPLACE IT AND SENT ME HOME WITH IT THAT WAY, WHICH I THOUGHT RATHER CARELESS. FURTHERMORE, I HAVE REPLACE 2 TIRES, AND NASSAR FORD REPLACED ONE TIRE. IN THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME I HAVE OWNED THE CAR, I HAVE HAD 5 FLATS. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE DRIVING AND FIRESTONE HAS OFFERED NO VIABLE SOLUTION. DT
CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO OPEN BOTH REAR DOORS, AND THE FRONTAL DRIVER'S DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. TO UNLOCK THE DOORS CONSUMER HAD TO GO THROUGH THE PASSENGER'S FRONT DOOR AND UNLOCK IT FROM THE INSIDE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
WHEN COMING TO A LIGHT BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITH THE BUMPER CRACKED SLIGHTLY. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS SMASHED UPON DEPLOYMENT WITH DRIVER RECEIVING BURNS AND CHOKING FROM CHEMICALS. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. TS
HAVE THERE BEEN ANY REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH RACK/PINION, TRANSMISSION AND ALTERNATORS ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE MILEAGE HAS BEEN SO LOW YET SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. DT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING NUMEROUS FAILURES. THE MAIN FAILURES WERE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BRAKE SYSTEM, BENT TIE ROD, SHAKING AND VIBRATING, REAR WINDOW MECHANISMS, AND FLOODING AFTER IT RAINS. THE LEAK OCCURS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE WATER RISES 2 TO 3 INCHES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER DUE TO THE INSPECTION COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,473.
