WHILE DRIVING 60MPH AT NIGHT LOST ALL POWER. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE ACTS AS THOUGH IT IS OUT OF GAS.VEHICLE WILL JUST STOP RUNNING WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. PLEASE ADD VIN. *AK
THERE IS NO WAY TO SECURE THE HATCH WHEN TRANSPORTING LONG ITEMS & THUS EXHAUST FUMES ARE SUCKED BACK INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT RECOMMEND DRILLING A HOLE FOR THE HOOK ON A BUNGEE CHORD TO HOLD THE HATCH DOWN & REDUCE FUMES ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THE DRILLING OF A HOLE FOR A HOOK MAY INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY. THIS, I FEEL, IS A HEALTH & SAFETY CONCERN SINCE IT IS COMMON FOR ME TO SEE HATCH VEHICLE TRANSPORTING COMMON HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, LIKE 2 X 4'S FROM THE LOCAL HOME CENTER & OTHER ITEMS AS WELL. THE HATCH REMAINS COMPLETEWLY OPEN.
SUDDEN ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH. UNABLE TO RESTART CAR FOR 5 MINUTES. THEN CAR STARTED AND HAVE HAD NO RECURRENCE OF PROBLEM. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND CAUSE.*AK
BRAKES MAKE NOISE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLY.AFREIND OF MY HAS THE SAME KIND OF CAR TOOK IT BACK TO HIS DEALER MEDFORD FORD IN MEDFORD NJ.THEY TOLD HIM THERE WAS A SILENT RECALL ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM ,AND ON THE REAR SPINDELS THAT HOLD THE BACK BRAKE DRUMS ON.THE NUT THAT HOLDS BRAKE DRUM ON CAN BACK OFF AN DRUMS AN WHEEL ASSEMBLY CAN FALL OFF. HIS CAR WAS REPAIR& HE TOLD ME ABOUT THE PROBLEM,AND SAID ALL DEALERS KNOW ABOUT THIS SILENT RECALL I HAVE BEEN TO TWO OTHER DEALERS NEAR MY HOME AN NEITHER ONE KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY SAID IF IT NOT ON RECALL THEY WILL NOT FIX.WAS WONDERING IF YOU HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.*AK
DRIVER BELIEVES THAT THE OUTSIDE / INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR DOES NOT GIVE A FAIR EVALUATION OF WHERE A CAR IS ALONGSIDE AND BEHIND, DRIVER STATES THAT THE CAR IN BACK APPEAR TO BE FAR ENOUGH BEHIND TO SAFELY MAKE A LANE CHANGE, WHEN IN FACT IT IS NOT. *TT
THE CAR VEERED TO THE LEFT ON ITS OWN AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITH FOOT OF GAS AND WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE AND ROLL OVER A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES BRFORE COMING TO A STOP. *AK
TESTED MY BRAND NEW FOCUS REAR SEAT RELEASE IN THE TRUNK AND HAD TROUBLE RELEASING THE 60 OF THE 60/40 SEAT. WHEN IT DID RELEASE, I HAD TROUBLE SECURING THE SEAT INTO THE LATCH. THE LATCH DIDN'T SEEM LINED UP. WENT TO THE DEALER, WAITED ON A NEW LATCH. THE LATCH DIDN'T FIX IT SO THEY'RE GOING TO TRY A NEW CABLE.*AK

WHILE DRIVING 45MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CUT IN FRONT. THIS CAUSED FOCUS TO REAREND OTHER VEHICLE. UPON REAR ENDING OTHER VEHICLE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. HAD CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHEN EXITING FREEWAY OR FAST LANE CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND HESITATE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN WAS REMOVED, AT THAT TIME THE CONSUMER NOTICED PIECES OF MATERIAL IN THE OIL PAN AFTER THE SERVICE THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO HESITATE. *TT *NLM *DT
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED DURING A REAR END ACCIDENT, INJURING THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER WHO SUSTAINED SEVERE FACE BURNS. ALSO, THE WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND COVERED THE OCCUPANTS WITH GLASS. *TT
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO SHIFT, CAUSING HESITATION, WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH AND SLOWING TO 20 MPH, CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BADLY AND ABOUT 2-4 SECONDS LATER THE VEHICLE FINALLY TOOK OFF. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED. *SLC
I HAVE 18-2001 FORD FOCUS' AND 7-2000 FOCUS'. I LIVE IN ERIE,PA. WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GOES UP 25-30DEGREES FAST THE CAR STARVE FOR GAS. LAST YEAR CHAMPION FORD AND FORD FLEET ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM. THIS YEAR THEY BLAME IT ON THE "GAS STATION" AND BECAUSE I DIDNT BRING ALL MY MAINTENENCE WORK TO THEM. 5 OF THE 18-2001 HAVE BROKEN DOWN FOR THIS PROBLEM THIS YEAR. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH VEHICLE JOLTED TO THE RIGHT AND FRONT REAR TIRE DEFLATED. BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING, AND WINDSHIELD SHATTERED. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING STEERING BECOMES ERRATIC. ALSO, SLIDES IN WET CONDITION. FRONT END FEELS VERY LOOSE WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION, AND VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.*AK
WE TAKE THE CAR TO ALBANY FORD FOR EVERY MAJOR SERVICEING. WHEN WE STARTED TO HEAR THE GRINDING NOISE, WE REPORTED IT TO THE SERVICING PERSONEL. THEY FELT IT ODD THAT THE BRAKE PADS AS WELL AS THE ROTORS SHOULD FAIL AT 22000 MILES BUT REFUSED TO REPLACE SAYING THAT THE WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER AS THIS WEAR AND TEAR. ALSO WHEN WE TOOK THE CARE FOR SERVICING AT 5000 MILES, THE BRAKE PADS WERE 10 MM AND WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR BACK AT 14000 MILES, THE PADS WERE 5MM. NOBODY AT THE SERVICE CENTER INFORMED US THAT THE BRAKE PADS WILL NEED TO BE CHANGED SOONER AS THEY ARE WEARING OUT FASTER THAN USUAL. AT THAT TIME THEY DID NOT FEEL IT WAS ODD. THEY REALLY SHOULD HAVE WARNED US, BUT INSTEAD THEY PUT THE BLAME ON US SAYING WE WERE BRAKING HARD. WE DONOT DRIVE THE CAR VERY MUCH AS WE HAVE GOOD PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN THE AREA WE LIVE.I CONTACTED OTHER REPAIR SHOPS AND ONE OF THEM, AT MIDAS SAID THAT SHE WAS SEEING THIS AS A THIRD CASE OF BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM IN TWO WEEKS. THE OTHER TWO CARS WERE MUSTANG. WE TRIED GETTING IN TOUCH WITH A SUPERVISOR, BUT THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO CALL US BACK AT THE TIME WHEN WE ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY PROBLEM, THE LEFT SIDE BRAKE LIGHT SEEMED TO HAVE STOPPED WORKING. HOW DO WE GET THE FORD PEOPLE TO TAKE OUR COMPLAINTS RIGHT AWAY.*AK
CAR HAS CUT OFF 5 TIMES IN LAST YEAR AT SPEEDS OF 55MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE LAST TIME CAUSED MY DAUGHTER TO LOSE CONTROL AND RUN OVER A MEDIUM. SHE WAS LUCKY THAT SHE DID NOT CROSS IT AND KILL HERSELF AND SOMEONE ELSE. FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO FIX IT AS "THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM." WHEN WILL THE NHTSA DO SOMETHING? AFTER SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE KILLED?*AK
THE ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAG IS THAT UPON DEPLOYMENT IT SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD, SHOWERING GLASS THROUGHOUT THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR CAUSING CUTS AND SCRATCHES IN ADDITION TO THE BURNS FROM THE AIR BAG COMPONENTS. FORD CORPORATE STATED THAT THIS WAS ABNORMAL, HOWEVER THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. *AK
AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITH MINOR FRONTAL IMPACT WHILE COMING TO A STOP. PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG COVER FLIPPED UP AND SHATTERED ENTIRE WINSHIELD. ONLY DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLE WAS LICENSE PLATE FALLING OFF.*AK
WHILE DRIVING FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL MAKES A LOUD THUMPING NOISE. ALSO, STEERING WHEEL SHAKES ERRATICALLY. THERE IS ALSO A BURNING SMELL WHICH IS VERY HARSH. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR ALWAYS SHAKES WHEN ITS IN PARK OR AT A STOP LIGHT AND IT STALLED 2 TIME. HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND STILL CANT FIND THE PROBLEM.
WHEN DRIVING ONTO AN ON RAMP OR ACCELERATING VEHICLE STALLED OUT. DRIVER HAD TO LEAVE VEHICLE ON SIDE OF THE ROAD.*AK
VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT ONCE GAS GAUGE REACHES A QUARTER TANK. ALSO, KEEPS GETTING A POWER SURGE. POLICEMAN OFFERED CONSUMER ASSISTANCE, AND MOVED HER VEHICLE. NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME SHE TURNED IGNITION SWITCH, ODOMETER WOULD INCREASE SEVERAL THOUSAND IN MILEAGE. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS.*AK
AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED, VEHICLE JERKS HARD AND STALLS. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE CHECKED AND REPAIRED BY DEALER WITH NO RESOLUTION.*AKTHE DEALER IS HAVING CONSUMER TO MONITOR THE VEHICLE WHEN IT STARTS FAILING, BY PUSHING A BUTTON. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO PINPOINT WHERE THE PROBLEM IS OCCURING. THE VEHICLE WAS DOWNSHIFTING WHILE IN MOTION, THE SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED. ALSO THE JERKING AND STALLING WERE CAUSED BY AN ERRATIC FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE. THIS MODULE HAS ALSO BEEN REPLACED. THE IGNITION LOCK WAS REPLACED, THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE PRESENT IN THE DOOR ASSEMBLY WHICH WAS REPAIRED, THE WHEEL WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT SO DEALER ADJUSTED THE UPPER BALL JOINT, AND THE SUN VISOR WAS BROKEN WHICH WAS ALSO REPLACED. *JG
CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED, WHILE BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL SHUDDER. *SLC
THE BRAKES MAKE NOISE AND VIBRATE WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS BUT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM FOUND WITH THE BRAKES. NLM
CONSUMER WAS IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT. UPON IMPACT THE PASSENGERS SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK, ALLOWING PASSENGER TO MOVE FORWARD HITTING THE WINDSHIELD, FACE FIRST. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AFTER THE INITIAL IMPACT OF THE ACCIDENT. RESULTING IN FACIAL SWELLLING OF THE PASSENGER AND 3 LOOSE TEETH. CONSUMERS AIR BAG OPENED LATER ALSO, BUT THE SEAT BELT LOCKED AND CONSUMER ONLY SUFFERED A BADLY BURNED THUMB. *JG
VEHICLE HAS A TENDENCY TO JUMP/LUNGE OR HESITATE AND STALL COMPLETELY. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO DETECT FAILURE, EVEN WITH VEHICLE REPAIRED 15 INCONSECUTIVE DAYS. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
VEHICLE IS LOSING POWER AT 35 MPH AND STALLS WHEN APPROACHING INTERSECTIONS. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ONCE, WITH THEM UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. ALSO THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER EXCEPT FOR IN THE PASSING GEAR WITH THE A/C RUNNING. I BELIEVE THESE TWO PROBLEMS ARE LINKED TOGETHER.*AK
VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO STALLING/STOP, LUNGE FORWARD OR HESITATE WITH NO WARNING WHILE IN MOTION. DEALERSHIP HAS HAD VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO CHANGE IN CONDITION. OWNER ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAD SOME SORT OF FLUCTUATION WITH THE RPM GAUGE, SPORATICULLY. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
FELT STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT START OF BRAKING AROUND 45MPH. THIS STARTED OCCURRING AROUND 9,000 MILES. AT 15,000 MILES CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE. DEALER INSPECTION CONCLUDED THAT THE BRAKE PADS & ROTORS NEEDED REPLACMENT. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND ROTORS SHOULD NOT BE WORN AT 15,000 MILES.*AK
FROM THE SUMMER OF 2001 THROUGH DEC. 11, 2001, MY REAR TIRES ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS STARTING WEARING ODDLY ACROSS AND AROUND THE TIRE SHOWING HIGH AND LOW SPOT TREAD WEAR PLUS CUPPING THAT WENT UNDETECTED UNTIL 12/01. DURING 12/01, BIG "O" TIRE COMPANY DID AN ALIGNMENT CHECK AND TIRE ROTATION, BUT DIDN'T NOTICE THE TIRE PROBLEM. I LEFT ON A SHORT TRIP AFTERWARDS. THE REAR TIRES THAT HAD BEEN MOVED FORWARD, CHATTERED LOUDLY, ESPECIALLY, THE LEFT SIDE BUT DIDN'T BEFORE ROTATION. THE INSPECTION SHOWED THE LEFT FRONT TIRE THAT HAD BEEN ROTATED FROM THE REAR HAD SERIOUS TREAD WEAR DAMAGE, CUPPING, AND FLAT SPOTS, SOME HIGH AND LOW. THE LEFT FRONT THAT HAD BEEN ROTATED TO THE REAR WAS ALSO DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. THE TIRE CO. FELT THEY HAD MISSED SOMETHING DURING ALIGNMENT AND ROTATION, SO THEY PAID FOR ONE OF MY FIRESTONE TIRES AND I PAID FOR THE OTHER TO BE REPLACED WITH NEW FULDA TIRES. FIRESTONE WOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN MUCH CREDIT DO TO ODD WEARING PATTERNS. ALSO, THE RIGHT TIRES HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT NEARLY AS BAD. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID CONTACT THE TIRE MANUFACTURER, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. YET, NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY FOCUS BUT ON 12/11/01 THEY REPLACED MY REAR WHEEL AXLE BEARINGS DUE TO A RECALL . FORD CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT AND SAID THE TIRES (FIRESTONE) MUST BE DEFECTIVE AND I BELIEVED THAT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED THE REAR TIRES WERE TOO. THE NEW TIRES MADE THE VEHICLE MORE STABLE AND EASIER TO CONTROL. THE FIRESTONE TIRES REPLACED WERE BADLY WORN AND I THOUGHT THEY CAUSED THE CAR TO SHIMMY FROM SIDE TO SIDE DURING RAIN OR SNOW AS IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL AND MAKING ME AFRAID TO DRIVE. IN 3/02, THE LAST TWO FIRESTONES WERE REPLACED WITH THE FULDA TIRES. I THOUGHT THE TIRE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. AS OF AUGUST 2002, THE NEW REAR FULDAS' ARE DOING THE SAME THING. NOW I KNOW THERE IS A REAR SUSPENSION DEFECT WITH THE FOCUS AND NOT TIRES. AFTER MANY CALLS, FORD STILL SAYS NO DEFECT FOUND
WHEN ACCELERATING VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTSDOWN WITHOUT WARNING DUE TO CARBON GETTING INTO CYLINDER HEAD OR DIRT GETTING INTO FUEL PUMP. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
THE VEHICLE SURGES WHILE IN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR, AROUND 35-40MPH. IT HAS STALLED OUT THREE TIMES. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED AFTER TELLING THEM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN COMPLETELY RESOLVED.*AK
AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A WHILE AND THEN PARKED FOR LESS THAN 15 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT AND LOSE ALL POWER STEERING. THE OWNER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. *MR *SCC
THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE WORN EXCESSIVELY ALONG WITH PADS WITH LOW MILEAGE . NLM
