WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK.....*AK
TIRES WEAR CONFINED TO REAR WHEELS. *BF THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE VEHICLE HAS AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM WHICH ORIGINATED FROM THE FACTORY. *JB
THREE TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND REPLACEMENTS. THE ENGINE, STARTER/IGNITION AND 1 GEAR SHIFT ALL REPLACEMENTS AND OTHER VARIOUS PROBLEMS. *BF FOUR CD PLAYER REPLACEMENTS, THE BRAKES FAILED, AND 1 ALARM FAILURE. *SC THE ENGINE WAS ALSO REPLACED. *JB
HATCH RELEASE HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. . CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS NOT REPLACED, SINCE CONNECTED TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE COULD CATCH ON FIRE.*AK...ALSO, REPLACED TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH. *AK
18,000 MILES ON A 2003 FORD FOCUS AND THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE RUINED, THE DEALER TOLD ME I CAN EXPECT THIS WITH A FOCUS OR A ESCAPE BECAUSE OF CENTER MOUNTED ROTORS. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER 2500 MILES AGO. STATE POLICE CAN'T HELP ME DUE THE TIME THAT HAS PASSED SINCE INSPECTION. *AK
MY 2003 FORD FOCUS HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUNK LATCH FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. WHEN I GO TO CLOSE THE TRUNK IT DOES NOT SHUT. IT WILL SHUT IF I PULL ON THE SAFETY LATCH THEY HAVE IN CASE SOMEBODY GETS LOCKED IN THE TRUNK,HOWEVER EVEN WHEN IT CLOSES THAT WAY WHENEVER IT RAINS MY TRUNK WHEN I OPEN IT GETS ALL WET!I HAD A BUNCH OF CHRISTMAS PRESENTS IN THE BACK AND WHEN I OPENED THE TRUNK THEY WERE SOAKED! ALSO THE DOOR LATCHES SOMETIMES LOCK ON THEIR OWN. TWICE I HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT OF MY CAR. I NO LONGER EVER LEAVE MY CAR WITHOUT MY KEYS! *JB
REAR WINDOW WAS SHATTERED FOR NO KNOWN REASON WHILE DRIVING 65-70 MPH. THE SHATTERED GLASS FLEW FELL THE VEHICLE WHILE CHILD WAS SLEEPING IN A CHILD SAFETY SEAT. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK
2003 FORD FOCUS -- IGNITION LOCKS AND CANNOT BE RELEASED TO START THE CAR. DEALER (SMITH FORD IN LORDSBURG, NM) HAS TO TOW IN TO WORK ON AND LAST TIME EVEN REPLACED THE IGNITION. I AM TOLD THAT THIS SMALL DEALER HAS HAD 3 DIFFERENT FOCUS' WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
IGNITION CYLINDER HAS FAILED TWICE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 11/02. THE CAR IS A 2003 FORD FOCUS. THE IGNITION CYLINDER FREEZES AND PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING. I HAVE HAD THIS CYLINDER REPLACED TWICE IN ONE YEAR. THE FIRST TIME ON 11/6/04 AND THE SECOND TIME IN 11/27/05. *NM
2003 FORD FOCUS IGNITION CYLINDER LOCKED UP. KEY WILL NOT TURN, LEAVING ME WITH TOWING COSTS TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.*AK

THE INSIDE OF THE REAR TIRE BEGAN TO WEAR WITH LESS THAN 20000 MILES. *NM WHEN THE CONSUMER DROVE 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY THE REAR END FISH TAILED. *TC THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE EUROPEAN SUSPENSION. *JB
IGNITION SWITCH ON AN 03 FORD FOCUS ZX3 LOCKS UP. IT WAS FINE ONE DAY AND THE NEXT IT WASN'T. THE CAR WILL START BUT IT TAKES TIME AND FIDDLING WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BEFORE IT CLICKS AND UNLOCKS AND STARTS. *AK
REAR TIRES WEAR OUT PREMATURELY ON 2000, 2001 AND 2003 FORD FOCUS. ALL HAVE NEW TIRES INSTALLED BECAUSE OF REAR TIRE WEAR AND MISALIGNMENT. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE REAR TIRES BEGAN THUMPING AND THE TREAD WALL STARTED CUPPING. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE HAS HAD THREE VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TC THE CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS THE 2000 AND 2001 FORD FOCUS ONLY THE 2003. *JB
MY IGNITION LOCKED. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 FORD FOCUS ZX5. BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 1/2004. REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN SQUEALING FOR 2 MONTHS NOW. I'VE TAKEN IT TO A FORD DEALER AND A BRAKE SHOP AND BOTH HAVE SAID THE BRAKES ARE FINE. NOW THERE IS A DEFINITE SPONGY FEEL IN THE PEDAL AND A LOUD CREAKING NOISE FROM THE BACK, AND FINALLY YESTERDAY WHEN I DEPRESSED THE PEDAL TO STOP, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AT ALL FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS. I NEARLY STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME. *JB
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2003 FORD FOCUS FROM MENLOVE DODGE TOYOTA IN BOUNTIFUL IN LATE SEPTEMBER. VERYTHING WAS GOING FINE, UNTIL ONE DAY MY WIFE COMES HOME AN HOUR LATE FROM WORK SAYING THAT THE KEYS FOR OUR CAR WOULD TURN IN THE IGNITION, SHE HAD TO ENLIST THE HELP 2 OTHER CO-WORKERS & FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AFTER AN HOUR OF TRYING IT. O I WENT OUT TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE IGNITION AND SURE ENOUGH THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN UNTIL AFTER A BOUT 20-30 TRIES. SO THEN I GOT TO THINKING, WITH THIS CAR HAVING LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT I SHOULD HAVE IT LOOKED AT. AFTER TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLE & DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, WHICH FORD APPARENTLY FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AS WHAT IF YOU WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY & YOUR CAR STOPS RUNNING, YOUR GOING 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS BECAUSE THE KEY WONT TURN TO THE ON POSITION AGAIN. I CALLED TO GET A QUOTE ON GETTING THIS FIXED AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ME IN THE BALL PARK OF 200-300 DOLLARS FOR A DEFECT THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A KNOW PROBLEM BY FORD. HAVE FOUND A MESSAGE BOARD THAT OTHER FOR FOCUS OWNERS HAVE POSTED INFORMATION ON WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. MY FELLING IS, WITH SO MANY FORD FOCUS OWNERS OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM & ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE IGNITIONS. BACK AT ABOUT 18000, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED. THEY WERE SQUEAKING AND HAD EXCESSIVE DUST ON RIMS. AT TIMES I WOULD GET A GRINDING NOISE. THEY SAID "ALL WAS FINE." I TOOK MY CAR BACK AGAIN WITH THE SAME ISSUES, AT ABOUT 20000 MILES AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKES AND SINCE THE ROTORS WERE "SO THIN" THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALSO. I ASKED ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLITEN THAT IS OUT ON THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT "FORD" WAS NOT GOING TO REPLACE THEM. I AM MAD BEYOND BELIEF THAT THERE IS A "BULLITEN" ON THIS ISSUE AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. THIS NEW OF CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE THREW THE BRAKES THIS QUICK. THAT IS EXACTLEY WHAT I WAS TOLD ON MY INDEPENDENT EVALUATION. NOW I AM STUCK PAYING FOR THIS EVEN THOUGH FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM.*AK
I STARTED MY CAR NORMALLY AND DROVE TO THE STORE. WHEN I CAME OUT FROM THE STORE I GOT IN MY CAR, INSERTED MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND MY STERRING WHEEL STAYED IN A LOCKED POSITION. I TOGGLED MY KEY IN THE IGNITION TO NO AVAIL MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I ENDED UP HAVE TO CALL A TOW TRUCK , WHO WAS THE DRIVER SAW THE MODEL CAR IMMEDIATELY TAPPED ON THE IGNITION CYLINDER WITH A BALL PEEN HAMMER AND WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR. WHAT HE SAID IS THIS IS COMMON IN FORD FOCUS.*AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OR RUNNING THE BRAKES LIGHT FAILED TO COME ON. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
WHEN STICKING KEY INTO IGNITION THE KEY WILL NOT TURN, THE WHEELS ARE NOT LOCKED ITS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED,, I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALER SHIPS TO REPORT NOTHING IS WRONG, FIRST IT WAS IGNTION AN NOW IS THE STERRING COLUM, THE CARS IS AS OF YET TO BE FIXED, THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN APRIL OF 2003, AN NOW THE PRICE I AM BEING QUOTED IS RIDICULOUS. FORD FOCUS 2003 LOUD CRACKLING NOISE WAS HEARD WHEN DRIVING... NEXT CAR DROPPED AND BARED TO THE RIGHT..OFF ROAD TRIED TO GET VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL, AS A RESULT THE CAR VEERED TO THE LEFT TOWARDS ON COMING TRAFFIC..VEHICLE AND CAR, IN ONCOMING TRAFFIC COLLIDED.. SENDING VEHICLE BACK TO THE RIGHT AND INTO A GUARD RAIL..... COMPLAINT: THE AXLE BROKE LANDING CAR ON FENDER, WHILE DRIVING, NEWLY PURCHASED CAR ON SEPTEMBER 24, ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 3, 2004.. ATTORNEY CONTACTED SAID THEY NEED PROOF OF THE AXLE BRAKING BEFORE ACCIDENT... THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR CLEARLY INDICATES WHAT HAPPENED...THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE THAT CAME OFF STILL HAS THE AXLE ATTACHED TO IT WITH LITTLE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE IT WAS PICKED UP OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER ACCIDENT...I RECEIVED A TICKET FOR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN LANE..WHICH REALLY WAS NO FAULT OF MY OWN..
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE WAS STILL HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH TRANSMISSION. CONSUMER WAS FURIES. *AK
IN JULY, 2004 TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE THROW-OUT BEARING AND CLUTCH PLATE AT ABOUT 1,000 MILES THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER. *AK
CONSUMER PUT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND THE KEY WILL NOT TURN. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY IT DID NOT COVER WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AND UPON STOPPING THE VEHICLE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. *AK
1. SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE PAST 3 OR 4 DAYS, THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN. AFTER TAKING THE KEY OUT AND TRY AGAIN A COUPLE TIME, IT WOULD TURN. HOWEVER, TODAY AS I PUT MY KEY IN, IT DID NOT TURN; TRIED FIXING IT AND TURNING IT FOR SEVERAL HOURS. NO LUCK. MUST CALL MECHANIC OR LOCKSMITH. CAR NOT FUNCTIONAL AT THIS POINT.*AK
AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE FOR A FEW WEEKS WHENEVER I WOULD GO TO THE GAS STATION TO FILL IT WOULD REFUSE TO START BACK UP. AT FIRST IT WOULD TAKE ONE OR TOW TRIES THEN IT WAS TAKING UP TO 5 MINUTES. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE I WAS TOLD THE CAR WOULD NOT CODE AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, BUT TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK IN IF IT DID IT AGAIN. IT WAS FINE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. THIS WEEKEND I WAS STRANDED FOR 30-40 MINUTES BEFORE MY CAR WOULD START AGAIN AND I COULDN'T HAVE IT TOWED BECAUSE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. I CALLED DEALERSHIP TO INFORM THEM THAT IT WAS HAPPENING AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD THAT IF THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO! SPOKE TO A DEALERSHIP IN ORLANDO AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS PROBABLY THE FUEL SENSOR. LOCAL DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO ACCEPT THIS AS THE PROBLEM.*AK
FORD FOCUS 2003 ROTORS WEAR OUT INCREDIBLY FAST.. TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A 30,000 INSPECTION AND HAD TO HAVE NEW ROTORS AND BREAKS I WAS TOLD THAT MANY FOCUS'S ARE COMING IN AT 30,000 THAT NEED NEW ROTORS. WHY??? UNLESS THEY ARE DEFECTIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I PURCHASED A 2003 FOCUS FROM A DEALER WHO HAD USED IT FOR A DEMONSTRATION VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS OBTAINED ON OR ABOUT MARCH OF 2004 WITH ABOUT 5,600 MILES. AT THE TIME THE BRAKES SEEMED FINE. TWO WEEKS AGO I HEARD A NOISE AT 16,800 MILES. WHEN I PULLED THE WHEELS TO INSPECT THE BRAKES, I FOUND THE INNER DISC PADS DOWN TO METAL AND THE OUTER PADS WITH ABOUT 1/8 - 1/4" REMAINING. THE ROTORS ARE SCORED ON BOTH SIDES. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MY TAURUS. ANYONE ELSE HAVING THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS? I AM STARTING TO THINK THAT THERE IS A DEFINITE PROBLEM WITH FORD'S FRONT DISC BRAKES, OR THAT THE READ DRUMS ARE HOPELESSLY UNDER POWERED.*AK
THE CONSUMER HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR BRAKE DRUMS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE REAR DRUM BRAKE PADS WERE DEFECTIVE, PARTS AND COMPOUND WERE MISSING, TRIM UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN WAS MISSING, THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING IN FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GEAR, AND THE IGNITION WAS DAMAGED. *SC *JB
DT: 2003 FORD FOCUS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH LOCK GOT STUCK. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE. THIS HAPPEND WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED AND THEN STARTED AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP DOID NOT KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENED. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTICED ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2004. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON AUGUST 20, 2005. BOTH TIMES.GNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED BOTH TIMES. THERE WERE OTHER TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS VERY HARD TO START BUT IT DID START.*AK
IGNITION SWITCH BECOMES LOCKED AND WILL NOT TURN.*AK
2003 FORD FOCUS BRAKES ARE WEARING UNEVEN, RUBBING, AND SQUEEKING. THE FRONT ROTORS HAVE GROVES BEYOND ALLOWABLE LIMITS WHILE 40% OF PADS REMAIN. LOOKS AS IF THE FRONT PADS ARE EATING THE ROTORS. WHEN TAKEN TO FORD THEY SAY ITS NORMAL WEAR, WHAT A LIE.. THIS COULD CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT, IM SURPRISED FORD HASNT LEARNED THEIR LESSON FROM PAST EXPERIENCE. SINCE FOR HAS REFUSED TO TAKE ACTION ON THEIR FAULTY BRAKES, THERE ARE A LOT OF FOLKS THAT REALLY WISH YOU GUYS WOULD STEP FORWARD AND MAKE THEM BEFORE PEOPLE GET KILLED.*AK
WHILE DRIVINGAND UPON TURNING THE AIR CONDITIONER ON RIGHT REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. *AK
THE TEMPERATURE HAD BECOME COLDER AND THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT DEPRESS WITHOUT FORCE. THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR WHENEVER THE VEHICLE SAT OVERNIGHT OR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. THE CONSUMER WOULD DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL IT WOULD MOVE DOWNWARDS. THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. IT WOULD TAKE 4-5 DEPRESSIONS UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR WOULD MOVE DOWNWARD. OTHER PROBLEMS WERE THE BRAKES SQUEALING AND THE VEHICLE SUFFERED FROM NOT STARTING AT TIMES, EITHER THE PANEL LIGHTS WOULD ENGAGE OR THE STARTER WOULD GRIND. *AK *SC
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, AND THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
DT: TACHOMETER IN VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING WHICH RESULTED IN A SHORT. THIS CAUSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAD TO BE REPLACED 8 TIMES SINCE SEPTEMBER. THE SOLENOID IN THE IGNITION WAS DEFECTIVE AND RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER, WHO HAS REPLACED THE SOLENOID. BUT DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. CONSUMER REPORTED THIS TO FORD 3 TIMES. THE ALARM ON THE CAR WAS ALSO NOT WORKING. THE ALARM WAS NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, BUT WAS SOMETHING THAT CONSUMER PAID EXTRA FOR THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO ADD ON VEHICLE. FORD WILL NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE ALARM BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MANUFACTURED BY FORD. *AK
EVERY SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR THE BRAKES HAVE SQUEAKED. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE FIRST SERVICE, I INFORMED THE MECHANIC OF MY CONCERN ABOUT THE SQUEAKING BRAKES AND THE OVERWHELMING AMOUNTOF BRAKE DUST ON MY WHEELS AND RIMS. AFTER THAT CHECK UP I WAS TOLD MY BRAKES WERE FINE AND I PLEADED WITH THE MECHANIC TO BE SURE AND AGAIN AND AGAIN HE TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THIS PAST SATURDAY, AUGUST 28 2004, JUST OVER 16,000 MILES, I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND AGAIN COMPLAINED OF THE BRAKE DUST AND SQEAKING SOUND AND NOW GRINDING SOUND I HERE. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT I NEED NEW FRONT BRAKES METAL TO METAL PADS AND THE FRONT ROTORS MUST BE REPLACED!!!! THIS IS CRAZINESS AND I AM OUTRAGED!!!*AK
ON ANY RAINY DAYS THE FLOOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE LEAKS WATER. DEALERSIP WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE DRIVER HEARD A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER TOLD THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE AND THE PROBLEM STILL HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
THE CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE HAS 12,000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. IT WILL REACH AS HIGH AS 7,000 RPMS WITHOUT EFFORT. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER AND NEITHER WERE WILLING TO ASSIST. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
2003 FORD FOCUS IGNITION CEASED TO FUNCTION. EHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED AND SERVICED BY FORD. ESEARCH ON INTERNET INDICATES THIS IS AN EXTREMELY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AMONG FORD FOCUS OWNERS, WITH MANY OWNERS NEEDING TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE IGNITION SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW YEARS.*AK
THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING OVER A ROCK THE SIZE OF A TOMATO AND THE WHEEL RIM HAS A TEAR STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIM. THE PRESSURE OF THE AIR BLEW THE TIRE TOWARD THE INSIDE OF THE RIM. THE RIM SHATTERED AND THE TIRE WAS LEFT INTACT. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH LOW PROFILE TIRES. *AK *SC
2003 FORD FOCUS - FRONT BRAKES CAUSED OVERHEATING OF ROTORS AND SEVERE WEAR OF PADS - AT 20,000 MILES. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING. THEN, THE VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF GEAR WITHOUT WARNING AND COLLIDED INTO A BUILDING. BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *LA
MY CALIPERS HAVE FAILED TWICE ON MY 2003 FORD FOCUS SEDAN. I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2004 AS A END OF MODEL YEAR AND HAVE LOTS OF BRAKE AND ACCELERATION ISSUES. MY BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON ALL THE TIME WHEN I AM DRIVING. THE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE AND MAKES A LOUD REVVING NOISE. I HAVE ABOUT 27K MILES ON IT AND THE CALIPERS FAILED AT 10K AND THE SECOND TIME AT 22K. IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE FORD MECHANICS SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT HAS HAPPENED. SO THE REASON IT FAILS HAS NEVER BEEN REPAIRED BUT THEY REPLACE THE CALIPERS. HOW THEY HAVE FAILED TO REPAIR THE BRAKE LIGHTS FROM COMING ON WAS TO REPLACE THE PARKING BRAKE (BUT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEMS). THE BRAKES MAKE A SQUEALING METALLIC NOISE AND I WAS TOLD THAT WAS 'NORMAL' BY THE MECHANICS. AFTER BRINGING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER 10 TIMES I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC TO BRING MY PROBLEM TO FORD CO. WHEN I SAID THE CAR IS NOT SAFE AND THAT I WANT IT REPAIRED OR FOR THEM TO BUY IT BACK THEY SAID I WAS 'DOING' SOMETHING TO MAKE THE CALIPERS FAIL. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER THE WARRANTY! *JB
CONSUMER CAN SHIFT GEARS WITHOUT PUSHING THE SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER ACCIDENTALLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHEN DRIVING AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF HAVING DONE SO UNTIL THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD. *SC
IN JULY OF 2004 OPENED REAR PASSENGER DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. ONE MONTH LATER RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AFTER BEING OPENED. BOTH DOORS HAD TO BE TIED TOGETHER WITH A ROPE TO KEEP THEM SHUT. AS OF JULY 14, 2005 BOTH THE REAR PASSENGER DOORS WILL NOT OPEN. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR IN FRONT STICK AND OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT CLOSE. THIS WAS REPORTED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE IN MARCH OF 2005 BY PHONE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL ON 2003 FORD FOCUS BUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2000-2002. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED MYSELF. THE COST IS $250.00 PER DOOR. THE CAR WAS ONLY A YEAR OLD WHEN THIS PROBLEM STARTED. IT WAS ALSO OUT OF WARRANTY. I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE EACH LATCH REPACED. I ALSO WILL NOT CARRY ANY PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICHLE FOR FEAR THE DOORS WILL FLY OPEN.
TE CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES IN A SUDDEN STOP. INTERMITTENTLY THE PEDAL WOULD FEEL SOFT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE A PROBLEM. *JB
