AT 48,000 MILES MY HORN STOPPED WORKING
AS I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60-65MPH ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON WITHOUT ME TELLING THEM TO. THEY CYCLED THROUGH FAST, NORMAL, INTERMITTENT, OFF FOR 60-90 SECONDS PER CYCLE. AFTER THE SECOND CYCLE I DECIDED TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND FIND A PLACE TO PARK AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I THEN HEAR A THUD AS I COME TO A LIGHT, 30 SECONDS LATER I SEE SMOKE. I PULL INTO THE PARKING LOT AND SEE LOTS OF SMOKE AND SOME FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. I TURN OFF THE CAR AND THE WIPERS KEEP GOING. I GET OUT AND CALL 911 AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES MY CAR IS ENGULFED IN FLAMES.

THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED TEN SECONDS, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND IT RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MAC HEIK FORD LINCOLN (LOCATED AT 7201 N INTERSTATE HWY 35, GEORGETOWN, TX 78628, (512) 930-3673) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS12222912. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,225.
LOSE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN MOTION, CAUSING INCREASED EFFORT NEEDED FOR STEERING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE DUE TO A WATER BOTTLE THAT BECAME LODGED BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE FLOORBOARD. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED AN INJURY TO THE LEFT ARM DUE TO THE SEAT BELT SEIZING UPON IMPACT ON THE CONTACT'S ARM. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V643000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTIFICATION IN JUNE OF 2017. THE DEALER (ROBERTS MOTORS, 4350 N ALBY ST, ALTON, IL, 62002) WAS CONTACTED AT 855-999-5497 AND STATED THAT THE EARLIEST SCHEDULE FOR AN APPOINTMENT WAS APRIL 2,, 2018. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WAS UNREASONABLE, BUT TOOK THE APPOINTMENT ANYWAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE PER THE RECALL. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER ON A FEW OCCASIONS AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN EXHAUST ISSUE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED A SECOND TIME, IT PASSED THE EMISSIONS TEST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH THE INSPECTION LIGHT CAME ON AND A MESSAGE STATING THE POWER ASSIST HAS FAULTED AND REQUIRES MAINTENANCE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OFF AT THE NEXT OFF RAMP THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND I ALMOST WENT OF THE SIDE OF THE RAMP. I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO GET THE CAR HOME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE STEERING MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN UNKNOWN LOCAL DEALER SCHEDULED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IN THE NEXT 15 DAYS. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT, DUE TO HER SMALL STATURE, IT WOULD BE UNSAFE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,450.
I HAVE A 2012 FORD FOCUS THAT WITHOUT WARNING LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL, I HAVE CONTACTED FORD, WHO BASICALLY TOLD ME IT'S MY PROBLEM. LUCKILY, WE WERE NOT DRIVING AT THE TIME BUT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS WHAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 70MPH? HOW IS THIS SAFE FOR MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD NEAR ME? WHY IS FORD NOT BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM? IS IT BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVEN'T BEEN KILLED YET? THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THE STEERING WAS FAILING, ONE DAY IT'S FINE AND THE NEXT DAY IT WAS GONE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN SUBJECTED TO A RECALL AS OF YET?
WHILE BACKING OUT OF OUR GARAGE I NOTICED A STRANGE NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE SAME NOISE OCCURRED WHEN I HAD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO ENTER THE GARAGE.( MAKES THE NOISE EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE IT NOW.) I HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC FRIEND CHECK IT AND HE SAID TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS AND TO DRIVE IT AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. THE NEAREST DEALER IS 20+ MILES AWAY. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND HERE IS THE DIAGNOSES: FOUND THAT THE NOISE IS INTERNAL TO THE EPAS GEAR. STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENT AND ALIGNMENT $1596.49 INSTALLED PLUS TAX. I HAD TO PAY A $95 DIAGNOSTIC FEE TO FIND THIS OUT. THE CAR HAS 61094 MILES ON IT, SO IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE FORD FOCUS HAS NOT HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. MANY OTHER FORD MODELS WITH THE SAME STEERING MECHANISM HAVE BEEN RECALLED, WHY NOT THIS ONE! SO NOW IT IS SITTING IN THE GARAGE WAITING ON THE PART TO COME IN SO I CAN TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT, HOPEFULLY FIXED TO BE SAFE. HOPING FOR A RECALL TO GET MY MONEY BACK.
MY COMPLAINT INVOLVES THE POWER STEERING GEAR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN MY 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL WHILE PARKED AND DRIVING WHICH PUT ME INTO A COUPLE VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHILE DRIVING. I AM REQUESTING A RECALL BY FORD OF THE POWER STEERING GEAR.
ENGINE STARTED GROWLING AND BECAME VERY SLUGGISH. AT STOP LIGHTS OR EVEN IN TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF CAUSING FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAD VEHICLE REPAIRED IN APRIL AND NOW THE SAME TROUBLES ARE STARTING TO APPEAR AGAIN.
FORD FOCUS TRANSMISSION MODULE REGULATOR RECALL. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES FOR ISSUES THAT I FEEL ARE RELATED TO THIS MATTER. IN APRIL, I WAS DRIVING WHEN I LOST TOTAL POWER OF MY CAR AND THEN IT LURCHED FORWARD AS THE RPM'S RAN OVER THE TOP. I DROVE IT APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES TO MY HOME WHERE I HAD IT PICKED UP AND TOWED TO LARRY HILL FORD, CLEVELAND, TN. I HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AGAIN LAST WEEK AND DROVE THERE AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS FINE TO DRIVE WHILE THEY ORDERED A PART. TODAY, I STALLED OUT COMPLETELY WHILE ACCELERATING ON 25TH STREET (ON MY LUNCH HOUR). I HAD TO CALL A TOW FOR THE 2ND TIME. I BELIEVE MY SAFETY TO BE IN QUESTION AS I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS CAR AND FORD DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE NOR HAVE THEY OFFERED ME ANY TYPE OF BUYOUT OR TRADE OR COMPENSATION FOR THE CONSTANT PROBLEMS NOT EVEN RELATED TO MY SAFETY WHILE DRIVING.
ELECTRONIC STEERING FAILED CAR WENT INTO SAFETY MODE. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN ALOT WHY IS THERE NO RECALL FOR THIS WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND STEERING FAILED THANKFULLY ONLY GOING 35 OR THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC
MY STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP WHILE I AM DRIVING. I AM ON THE HIGHWAY ALMOST EVERY DAY. I HAD TO JERK IT BACK BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING INTO ANOTHER CAR IN THE OTHER LANE. I WILL TRY AND CHANGE LANES AND IT LOCKS, THEN POPS BACK TO ABLE TO STEER. SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE FROM THIS! THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL! IT;S BAD ENOUGH I HAVE HAD MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED 3 TIMES IN ONE YEAR....
WHEN DRIVING ON CITY STREET TO HAVE THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CHECKED, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD GO OUT OF GEAR, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP, THEN THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLAM BACK INTO 1ST GEAR MOMENTARILY, THEN SHIFT TO A MUCH LOWER GEAR (3RD?), MOVING AT AN UNSAFE SPEED FOR THE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, THEN SLAM BACK INTO 1ST GEAR AGAIN BEFORE STARTING THE WHOLE PROCESS OVER AGAIN. MOVING FROM A STOP, THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN. NOR WOULD IT ENGAGE REVERSE TO BACK UP TO PARK; IT WOULD ONLY REV UP. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE! FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS TRANSMISSION ASAP, AT NO COST & PERMANENTLY FIX THE ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH IT, NOT JUST BANDAID FIXES.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO KEYSTONE FORD LOCATED IN CHAMBERSBURG, PA WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS UPDATED AND THE CONTROL SWITCH OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,798.
STEERING LOCKED AFTER STARTING CAR - INDICATOR LIGHT ON DASH "I" TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON SEVERAL TIMES FINALLY INDICATOR DISAPPEARED AND NORMAL STEERING RETURNED - LOOKED ON LINE FOR SIMILAR EVENTS AND FOUND OTHER REPORTS FOR SAME EVENTS . HAD CAR TOWED IN TO FORD DEALERSHIP THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE EVENT AND INDICATE THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE - MAJOR CONCERN THAT COULD HAPPEN WHEN VEHICLE MOVING
I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF RECALL FROM FORD IN OCTOBER 2016 (RE: DOOR LATCH). I ATTEMPTED TO GET MY SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS, BUT WHEN THEY HAVE PARTS THEY WOULD CONTACT ME. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE (AND SOME OTHER ISSUES) FEB/MARCH. 2017 AND ASKED THAT THEY REPAIR MY VEHICLE FOR THIS SAME RECALL. AGAIN, TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE PARTS, BUT WOULD LET US KNOW WHEN THEY DID. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP (AGAIN) FOR AUGUST 2017 TO HAVE VEHICLE LOOKED AT FOR WARRANTY WORK AND HAVE THE RECALL FIXED. WHEN I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE I WAS TOLD THEY STILL DID NOT HAVE PARTS, BUT SHOULD HAVE THEM NEXT WEEK (CURRENT WEEK) AND WILL CALL WHEN THEY COME IN AND I CAN GET IT FIXED. I HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST 2 LETTERS FROM FORD STATING I NEED TO GET THIS RECALL FIXED; BUT, THE DEALERSHIP (SAME ONE EACH TIME) DOES NOT CALL WHEN PART COMES IN AND HAS FAILED TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. DEALERSHIP: MARSHALL FORD IN OFALLON, MO 63366.
THE POWER STEERING IS CURRENTLY NOT WORKING. IT IS LIKE DRIVING A CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING AT ALL. HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN AND MANEUVER THE CAR. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED WHICH WILL COST $1,500 WHICH SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE FORD MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS DETECTED BY THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IN THE CAR. CHECKED THE STEERING FLUID TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS NOT LOW OR LEAKING AND THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.
TAKATA RECALL WHILE DRIVING MY SEAT BELTS LOCK SO TIGHT I HAVE TO UNBUCKLE THEM BECAUSE THEY WON'T COME LOSE.
STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKING UP AT SLOW SPEEDS. ELECTRONIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING. RECENTLY, HAD THE TRANSMISSION RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. SOON AFTER THE STEERING STARTED LOCKING UP WHEN I WOULD LEAVE A PARKING LOT AND HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE, FIRST INDICATION OF ISSUE HAPPENED TWO DAYS AGO AT APPROXIMATELY 104,000 MILES. CLEARED ITS SELF WHEN CAR WAS PUT INTO GEAR, SECOND INDICATION WAS IN DRIVE WAY AND A RESTART CLEARED PROBLEM. ISSUE HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE DAILY. I'M NOT RISKING MY FAMILY DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL I TALK TO THE DEALER. THIS IS A KNOWN SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THE BUYERS OF THIS CAR DESERVE TO BE WARNED AND COMPENSATED WITH A FIX. INNOCENT PERSONS WILL DIE FROM THIS WHILE FORD IS APPARENTLY SILENT OR WAITING ON THEIR SUPPLIER TO STEP UP. NHTSA STEP IT UP NOW!!!
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY 70MPH AND ON CITY ROADS AT 35 MILES AN HOUR THE CAR WILL JUST LOSE POWER AND SHUT DOWN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND FUEL PRESSURE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT ALL COME ON WHEN THE CAR DIES. ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED AFTER GETTING THE CAR RESTARTED. AND WILL TAKE SEVERAL TRIES TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER IN AMERICAN FORK UTAH TODAY AND WE RECEIVED THE CODE TSB 1600 6 TO WHICH THEY SAY MEANS THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AS WELL AS THE GASKETS IN TUBES AND SENSORS. IT WILL COST ABOUT $2,000 TO REPLACE. WE ARE NOT HAVING THEM FIX IT AT THIS TIME SINCE WE CAN'T AFFORD IT. THIS COMES JUST A WEEK AFTER THEY HAD OUR CAR FOR TWO WEEKS TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION RECALL. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND THREE TIMES IN THE LAST 24 HOURS.

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALL AMERICAN FORD WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NUMEROUS SOFTWARE UPDATES AND THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED PREVIOUSLY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 128-21707. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,505.
GOT CAR ON 05/15//17, DRIVING CAR STOPPED CAR GEARS WOULDN'T WORK CAR WOULDN'T MOVE, HAD CAR IN FOR THIS REPROGRAMMED MODULE, CAR DID THE SAME THING. CAR HAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT CAN'T BE FIXED. I TOLD MY BROTHER IF I AND MY DAD END UP DEAD IN IT HE'S TO SUE FORD.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT NOTICE IN THE MAIL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000.

5/4/16 CAR WOULD NOT START IN A PARKING LOT AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER REPLACED FAULTY TCM FSA 14M02 7/22/17 WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY CAR ABRUPTLY JERKED, RPMS SHOT UP FROM ABOUT 2500 TO 5000 LOSS OF POWER. HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER, PUT CAR IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE, & TRANSMISSION RE-ENGAGED. 7/24/17 WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON EXPRESSWAY CAR ABRUPTLY JERKED, RPMS SHOT UP AGAIN. LOSS OF POWER. PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER, PUT CAR IN PARK AND BACK IN DRIVE, NO RE-ENGAGEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION, PUT CAR BACK IN PARKED, TURNED IT OFF, RESTARTED CAR, TRANSMISSION RE-ENGAGED. 7/25/17 DROVE TO DEALER, WHILE DRIVING SHIFTING BECAME INCREASINGLY HARD/HARSH, SHIFTING BECAME MORE DELAYED AS WELL. DEALER REPORTED FAULTY TCM AND DAMAGED CLUTCH. BOTH ARE TO BE REPLACED ON 7/26/17 FSA 14M01 FSA 14M02

ON WAY TO LOCAL STORE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. HAVING TO STEER WITH MUCH EFFORT. STOPPED AND TRIED TO TURN IGNITION OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND RESTART, BUT DID NOT WORK. IT INITIALLY WENT OUT WHILE IN MOTION ON WAY TO STORE AFTER ACCELERATING FROM STOP SIGN. NOTICED IT WHEN I HAD TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT NEXT CORNER. AND PANEL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON.
WHILE DRIVING LOCALLY AT SPEEDS LOWER THAN 40MPH OR EVEN STAYING IDLE WHILE USING AC THE ENGINE STARTS TO OVERHEAT AND AN ALERT POPS UP ON THE DASH STATING THAT THE ENGINE HAS OVERHEATED. ONCE AC IS TURNED OFF TEMPERATURE RETURNS TO NORMAL AND NO ISSUES REMAIN. NO OVERHEATING HAS OCCURRED WHILE ON HIGHWAY AS OF YET.
POWER STEERING GEAR. MY COLLEGE STUDENT HAD THE CHECK STEERING MESSAGE. WE TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST $1900. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR NEW ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING THAT RESULTED IN RECALLS ON THE FUSION, TAURUS, AND MLZS BUT THE FOCUS IS NOT RECALLED. I DECLINED THE REPAIR AND TOOK IT A LOCAL SHOP I USE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN'T GET THE PART BECAUSE......FORD IS PURCHASING EVERY LAST ONE. THERE IS A 2-3 MONTH WAIT FOR THE BACKORDER. THEY ALSO TOLD THAT THE PART COMES WITH A 15% SURCHARGE SO ANY SAVING THAT I WOULD GET NOT SERVICING AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WOULD BE LOST AS THEIR PRICE WAS ALSO $1900. I DID CALL IN MY COMPLAINT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HAVE A CASE NUMBER WHICH I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE ANY RESPONSE, THAT WAS 48 HOURS AGO. THE REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY 40% OF THE NET VALUE OF THE CAR. FOR A PROBLEM THAT NHTSA DINGED THEM ON FOR THE SAME SYSTEM IN OTHER MODELS. THIS IS WRONG. AS AN OWNER OF AN F150, LINCOLN TOWN CAR, AND THE FOCUS AND A LOYAL FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER, I AM QUESTIONING MY DECISION MAKING!!!
FORD HAS ISSUED NUMEROUS BULLETINS RELATED TO PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD FOCUS TRANSMISSION. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS FORD HAS EXTENDED THE COVERAGE ON CERTAIN SYSTEMS. MY CAR TRANSMISSION FAILED, PREVENTING THE CAR FROM BEING DRIVEN FASTER THAN APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH (FIRST GEAR). THE DEALER COMPLETED A SOFTWARE REBOOT WHICH TEMPORARILY ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM BUT STATED THAT I NEEDED A NEW "CLUTCH PACK" (APPROXIMATELY $1,600). ALTHOUGH THE SOFTWARE REBOOT WAS COVERED UNDER ONE OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSIONS, THE CLUTCH PACK WAS NOT. APPARENTLY, THE SOFTWARE THAT TELLS THE SYSTEM WHAT TO DO IS COVERED, BUT THE HARDWARE IS NOT? I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN SPITE OF NUMEROUS ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AND DOCUMENTED. THE ISSUE/PROBLEM THAT I EXPERIENCED HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED, BUT FORD REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT FAULTY DESIGN HAS CAUSED THIS ISSUE.

A MESSAGE APPEARED "STEERING ASSIST FAULT - SERVICE REQUIRED"... NO WARNING, THIS MESSAGED JUST POPPED UP AT TIME OF FAILURE. MY DAUGHTER STRUGGLED TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AND CALLED ME - REFUSING TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR OF ENDANGERING HER OR HER DAUGHTER. I HAD TO COME GET HER.... I DROVE THE CAR HOME - ALLTHOUGH THERE HAS NOT BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR IN THE 2 TIMES I HAVE DRIVEN IT. MY DAUGHTER WILL NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN. I HAVE READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL HUNDRED OTHERS REPORTING THIS SAME PROBLEM - INCLUDING A REPORT IN THE NY TIMES. DOES SOMEBODY TO DIE BEFORE THERE IS A RECALL? THE CAR HAS 75,000 MILES ON IT.

ON JULY 13, 2017 MY SISTER AND I WERE ON VACATION AND I PULLED IN TO FILL UP WITH GAS. GOT THE GAS, STARTED THE CAR AND A MESSAGE CAME UP STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION -SEE TECHNICIAN. TRIED TO DRIVE THE THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT STEER. NO PREVIOUS WARNING AT ALL. CAR WAS STEERING GREAT UNTIL THEN. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. WAS IN A SMALL TOWN IN PA. WITHOUT A FORD DEALER. NEAREST FORD DEALER WAS HALF HR AWAY AND COULDN'T LOOK AT IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS. WE WERE 5 1/2 HRS FROM OUR HOME. HAD TO CALL MY SON AND BROTHER TO COME AND TOW US HOME. IT SCARES ME TO DEATH TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE STEERING RACK AND MODULE ASSEMBLY. WANTED TO CHARGE ME $2300.00 BUT I COMPLAINED AND THEY FINALLY CHARGED ME $1900.00. CALLED FORD BUT GOT NO WHERE WITH THEM. SAID IT WAS A CUSTOMER BILL. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE FORD RECALLS THIS PROBLEM.

I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN 2016 FOR MY 16 YR OLD DAUGHTER. IN THE MONTH OF JUNE 2017 THE POWER STEERING WOULD INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT AND MAKE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. ON JULY 11, THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN CHESTERFIELD, MO. THE DEALERSHIP COMMUNICATED TO ME THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF POWER STEERING ISSUES WITH THIS CARE WHICH IS QUITE DISAPPOINTING SINCE THERE IS SIGNIFICANT CONTENT ON THE INTERNET FOR THIS ISSUE. THE DIAGNOSIS IS FAULTY POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY AND WILL COST ME $2200 TO FIX. I AM DISAPPOINTED FORD IS NOT TAKING THIS ISSUE MORE SERIOUSLY. I AM LUCKY MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT.

WHILE OUT OF TOWN AND ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE MY VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT, MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND GOT A MESSAGE SAYING "STEERING ASSIST FAULT. SERVICE REQUIRED". FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF MY VEHICLE AND RESTART IT WITHOUT THE ERROR MESSAGE COMING BACK. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY THAT NIGHT, I FELT THE CAR WAS HAVING DIFFICULTIES WHILE IDLING, FELT IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS EXTREMELY FEARFUL THAT THE STEERING WOULD GO OUT SUDDENLY AGAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO FORD THE NEXT DAY AND LEARNED THAT THE STEERING SYSTEM NEEDED REPLACED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE HOME BEFORE A MORE THAN $1,700 REPAIR AND SAID THE STEERING COULD GO OUT AT ANYTIME. DUE TO SEVERAL OTHER RECALLS AND ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS, I CONTACTED THE CORPORATE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED FOR A SOLUTION. THEY REFUSED TO ASSIST ME WITH ANY TYPE OF DISCOUNT OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE $1,200 PART THAT SHOULD NOT BE SUDDENLY GOING OUT IN A FIVE YEAR OLD VEHICLE. THEY ALSO REFUSED TO TAKE ANY OWNERSHIP OVER THE MANY, MANY RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AND MY FEARS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. DUE TO THE OTHER RECALLS THAT FORD HAS HAD OVER STEERING CONCERNS IN RECENT YEARS, I AM EXTREMELY SCARED THAT MY CAR IS UNSAFE EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR DUE TO SEVERAL KNOWN PROBLEMS IN CARS AND PARTS THAT FORD MAKES.

MY CAR HAD BEEN STATIONARY FOR MAYBE 20 MINUTES. I TRIED BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME- MY ARMS WERE VERY SORE BY THE TIME I PULLED IN THE DRIVEWAY. I CALLED FORD THIS MORNING TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WAS ADVISED IT SOUNDS LIKE A LEAK IN MY STEERING SYSTEM BUT THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE. MY BIGGEST CONCERN, ASIDE FROM HOW MUCH THIS IS GOING TO COST ME, IS THAT THEY SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE?! IF SOMEONE OR SOMETHING WERE TO PULL OUT IN FRONT OF ME OR I NEEDED TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY FOR ANY REASON IT WOULD LITERALLY BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DO SO.
