WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP THERE IS A SLIGHT SHUTTER FEELING. I PROCEDED TO GOOGLE THIS ISSUE AND ITS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE CARS. DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL. THE DEALERSHP TOLD ME ITS A BAD CLUTCH IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHY WOULD THAT BE THE CONSUMERS FAULT? I HAVE A RECEIPT FROM THEM STATING THAT WITH A CHARGE OF 50.00 I HAD TO PAY ALSO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE MOVED SLOWLY. THE CONTACT CALLED CIOCCA FORD OF QUAKERTOWN (321 S WEST END BLVD, QUAKERTOWN, PA 18951, (215) 536-8600) AND SCHEDULED A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CIOCCA FORD WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH, GASKET CYLINDER, TIE ROD, IN AND OUT LUG NUTS SPLASH GUARDS, GASKET VALVE COVER, LOWER CONTROL ARM AND BUSHING, OIL PAN GASKET, POLLEN FILTERS, AIR FILTER ELEMENT, ALL FOUR TIRES, WIPERS, AND THE BATTERY CABLE NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V735000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,664.
SOMETIMES IT WON'T GO IN REVERSE, IT STUTTERS, SHUDDERS, STALLS (WHICH IS NOT GREAT WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC OR MAKE A TURN) WON'T GO INTO GEAR (SHIFT). BROUGHT IT IN FOR TCM RECALL AND THEY FIXED AND EXTENDED ORIGINAL WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES BUT NOW IT'S PAST THAT, MY EXTENDED WARRANTY IS UP. TOOK IT AGAIN TO DEALER BECAUSE OF TRANS AND THEY WANTED $170.00 JUST TO LOOK AT IT. I'M ON A FIXED INCOME AND JUST DON'T HAVE THE EXTRA. I HAD IT "FIXED" BY A MECHANIC FRIEND AT HIS SHOP AND HE SAID THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION! IT HAS NOW BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! FORD NEEDS TO MAKE GOOD ON THIS!
2012 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TRANSMISSION PROGRAMMING ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE MODULAR SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER SIX TIMES FOR THE SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE, WHEN HE PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *JB
MARCH 1, 2017 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER CAR STALLED, IDLE WOULD INCREASE AND THEN DECREASE AND THEN DIE. MADE APPOINTMENT AT FORD DEALER IN LAKE WORTH, FL. HAD TO LEAVE VEHICLE. AT SAME TIME 3 RECALLS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. I WAS TOLD FUEL LEAK IN GAS TANK, THAT IS GOING THROUGH A HOSE INTO AREAS IT SHOULD NOT GO, CAUSING READINGS TO CAUSE STALLING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED NEW FUEL TANK, SENDERA?, GASKET, TUBE ASY FOR APPROX. $1,300 THEN $500 FOR LABOR FOR TOTAL OF $1,800. NEVER HEARD OF SUCH AS THIS EXCEPT IN VEHICLES OVER 20 YEARS OLD OR FROM ACCIDENTS. VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 90,000 MILES. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AS I WAS ACCELERATING FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A CITY STREET, OTHER TIMES WERE SIMILAR OR STOPPED OR RIDING ON INTERSTATE HWY, IT WOULD JUST STALL.
NOTICE CAME UP ON DASH MONITOR "STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION-NEEDS ATTENTION". AFTER RE-STARTING THE CAR YOU COULD STEER IT, AND TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A "STEERING RACK" AT A COST OF $1600.00, NOT COVERED ON THE "DRIVE TRAIN" WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD BY THE SALES MAN FROM A DIFFERENT DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, THAT A NEW STEERING RACK HAD BEEN INSTALLED AT JUST OVER 3000 MILES. THE CAR NOW ONLY HAS JUST OVER 45000 MILES ON IT. NOT HAPPY! CAR WAS NOT MOVING WHEN THE INITIAL "NEEDS ATTENTION" MESSAGE APPEARED, IT WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT, AND JUST STARTED TO GO HOME FROM WORK.
RECALL--TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER/TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT SEAL WARRANTY EXTENSION---FIELD SERVICE ACTION NUMBER = 14M01 I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO HOMER SKELTON FORD IN OLIVE BRANCH, MS ON 2/27/17 FOR A TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE RECALL. THIS RECALL GOES UP TO 150,000 MILES WHICH MY CAR HAS 135,000 MILES SO IT WAS STILL IN EFFECT. THE SERVICE GUY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION (I LISTED IT AT THE TOP OF PAGE) THAT IT EXPIRED AT 100,000 MILES. WELL MY CAR HAD 98,329 MILES WHEN I BOUGHT IT AT CITY AUTO IN MEMPHIS, TN. I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING ABOUT THE RECALL AND I DIDN'T RECEIVE A RECALL LETTER---THE LADY AT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE CHECKED THIS OUT AND TOLD ME THAT "NO" I WASN'T IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR THIS RECALL LETTER. SO NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS WANTING ME TO PAY $2033 FOR REPAIRS DUE TO THE 1ST RECALL. THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE (2 OF THEM) TOLD ME TO CALL THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SEE IF HE HAS ANY RESOURCES. I CALLED HIM TWICE YESTERDAY...NO ANSWER EITHER TIME. SO WHEN THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN CALLED ME AND TOLD ME MY CAR WAS READY, HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD TO PULL THE SERVICE MANAGER OUT OF A MEETING TO DESCRIBE MY DILEMMA, WHICH WAS TO NO AVAIL. THEY SAID THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WHOLE PAYMENT.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: ENGINE STOPPED AND WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN DRIVE. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS THE ENGINE CEASED RUNNING. IT HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION, THANKFULLY APPROACHING STOP SIGN. UNDERSTAND THAT THIS ALSO RESULTS IN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED, WELL-MAINTAINED, AND HAS APPROX. 94,000 MILES. VERDICT FROM FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANIC: VACUUM PURGE VALVE WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THE VACUUM FORCE THAT RESULTED DAMAGED/WARPED FUEL TANK, AND DAMAGED THE FUEL PUMP. THE PURGE VALVE, FUEL TANK, AND FUEL PUMP ALL MUST BE REPLACED. COST: THE COST OF REPAIRS IS OVER $2000, PLUS TOWING THE CAR, AND THE NEED FOR MY FAMILY TO GET A RENTAL VEHICLE FOR A WEEK. MISC: THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ITEM AND THIS COULD PROVE EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS IF IT OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU LOSE POWER STEERING WHEN THE ENGINE DIES SUDDENLY.
MY DAUGHTER COMPLAINED THAT SHE RECEIVED A DASHBOARD WARNING AND LOST POWER STEERING A FEW TIMES- TO CONFIRM, I DROVE HER CAR FOR A WEEK AND IT HAPPENED SIX TIMES IN ONE WEEK!!! TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING! IT HAPPENED WHILE IN REVERSE, DRIVING FORWARD AND UPON STARTING. IN MY DRIVEWAY, AND IN CITY STREETS AND WHILE TURNING. I WAS NOT GOING FAST AND WAS WATCHING FOR IT. WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO AREN'T WATCHING FOR IT? APPARENTLY IT IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE AS TONS OF OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS MY CHILDS CAR (WHICH I WILL NOT LET HER DRIVE) AND I FIND IT TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE THAT FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THIS HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!
PURCHASED CAR USED AND FINANCED IT AND THE SECOND DAY THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SHUDDERING,GETTING STUCK IN LOW GEAR AND ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT WOULDNT GO.TOOK CAR BACK AND HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND THE CAR DOES THE EXACT SAME THINGS IT DID BEFORE GOING OUT FIRST TIME.
UPON START-UP A YELLOW WARNING MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED THAT THE POWER STEERING HAD FAILED, I.E. IT TOOK GREAT EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. CAR WAS SHUT OFF. LATER IN THE DAY, CAR WAS RE-STARTED AND THE POWER STEERING WAS AGAIN WORKING AND NO WARNING LIGHT (AMBER) WAS DISPLAYED. APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER WAS MADE TO ADDRESS ISSUE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON . TOOK TO DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED CAR . ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE AT THIS DEALER . SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT PROBLEMS WITH PURGE VALVE HAVE CAUSED FUEL TANKS TO COLLAPSE AND THAT WAS CASE IN MY CAR , CODE P 1450, CODE P144A . I ASKED IF FORD WOULD COVER THESE REPAIRS AS CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY 79318 MILES BUT OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURES DEFECT , FORD REFUSED TO COVER REPAIRS AND I PAYED UNDER PROTEST $ 1596. 55 FOR REPAIRS. CAR WAS STALLING AT STOP LIGHTS , AND FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FIRST CAME ON .
STARTED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE STEERING ASSIST FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR HAS NO POWER STEERING. IT IS NOT DRIVABLE. I DRIVE 70 MILES A DAY ON THE FREEWAY AND IT WAS PURE LUCK THIS DIDN'T CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
WAS DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AT 65MPH. RPMS SHOOT PAST 5 AND CAR ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN UP TO 80MPH. CARS MESSAGE SCREEN READ "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION- SERVICE NOW". I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE LEFT - AS THERE WAS TRAFFIC. WAS ABLE TO GET OFF HIGHWAY BUT COULD ONLY GET MY CAR TO GET AS FAST AS 30MPH BEFORE THE RPMS WERE PAST 5 AGAIN. FORD REPLACED TRANSMISSION COMPUTER MODULE. DROVE CAR FOR ~HOUR AND A HALF NEXT DAY. CAR IS JERKING FORWARD WORSE THAN BEFORE. SHAKING IN THE TRANSMISSION. WOULD ACCELERATE ~5MPH ON ITS OWN. HAPPENED 5 TIMES DURING THE DURATION. DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU'RE IN MOTION OR STATIONARY - THIS CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT. I'M POSITIVE HAD SOMEONE BEEN IN FRONT OF MY ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN IT ACCELERATED TO 80MPH ON ITS OWN, I WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED THEM.
"DRIVER ASSIST FAULT" AGAIN. THIS IS THE 4TH INSTANCE THAT IS HAPPENED IN 3 WEEKS - WHERE MY CAR SUDDENLY POWERS OFF WHILE I AM BEHIND THE WHEEL. THE LAST THREE TIMES IT HAPPENED WHILE MY CAR WAS IN REVERSE MOTION. TODAY, IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN DRIVE BUT STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN DOWNTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC. SOMEONE HAD TO HELP ME PUSH MY CAR OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. OCCURRED ON MY WAY TO WORK AROUND 3:30 PM EST.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 2/17/2017 MY FOCUS LOST POWER STEERING. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO DEAN SELLERS FOR REPAIRS. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE DONE ($2100) I LEARNED OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE 2012 FORD FOCUS AND THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FRASER FORD SALES LTD (815 KING ST W, OSHAWA, ON L1J 8N5, CANADA), BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER FLUSHED THE BRAKE LINES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO FRASER FORD SALES LTD, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE LINES, AND CALIPERS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
THIS CAR ALSO HAS THAT TERRIBLE TRANSMISSION, MINE REPLACED FOUR TIMES THE FUEL FLAPS BOTH GET STUCK AND IT FLOODS, WON'T START PROBLEMS WITH TIRE LUG NUTS, TWO PIECE DESIGN? WHO DESIGNED ME WHAT A PIECE!
INTERMITTENT POWER ASSIST STEERING MALFUNCTION OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS. POWER ASSIST MALFUNCTION ON STARTING CAR WOULD RESET AFTER RESTARTING CAR. FORD GARAGE CHECKED AND COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. WENT OUT TO START CAR TODAY AND POWER ASSIST STEERING NOW OUT COMPLETELY. UNABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. RESTARTING CAR DOES NOT HELP. FORTUNATELY CAR WAS PARKED IN GARAGE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WILL BE CALLING FORD TOMORROW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO THE DRIVE OR REVERSE POSITIONS, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE POWER STEERING DEFAULT WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,600. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IT USED TO BE THAT UPON STARTING MY CAR, A WARNING PROMPT READING "STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION" POPPED UP AND MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD BE VERY DIFFCULT TO TURN. USUALLY, I WOULD TURN OFF THE CAR, TURN IT BACK ON, AND VOILA--IT WOULD WORK FINE. BUT NOW, THE STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTION HAS DEVELOPED WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WITH NO PATTER OR WARNING OF IT HAPPENING. AGAIN I WOULD TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON ONCE I MERGED OUT FROM THE ROADS OF THE STREET OR FREEWAY. STEERING ALONE WAS REALLY DIFFICULT. NOW, MY CAR READS THE SAME MALFUNCTION PROMPT, AND MY NIFTY TRICK OF TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON NO LONGER WORKS. THE ISSUE IS PERMANENT AS OF NOW. ALSO I HAVE LOTS OF VIDEOS DOCUMENTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON YOUTUBE.
I GOT IN MY CAR, BUT IT IN REVERSE AND BEGAN BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE WHEN MY SUDDENLY CAR LOST POWER. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION BUT THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT STEER OR STOP MY CAR FROM GOING BACKWARDS AND I HIT A PARKED CAR IN THE PARKING DECK AT SCHOOL AS A RESULT. THE CODE ON MY DASH WAS (I) STEERING ASSIST FAIL. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL AND BREAK RELEASED AND I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR AGAIN. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN 2 WEEKS IT HAS DONE THIS (JAN 28, FEB 2 AND FEB 8). ALL THREE TIMES THE CAR HAS BEEN IN MOTION AND IN REVERSE GEAR. I CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE OFFICES AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS THE CAR DUPLICATES THE PROBLEM IN THEIR PRESENCE.
THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL FOR MY DOOR LATCH. MY DOOR HAS NOW STOPPED LATCHING. I CALLED THE DEALER WHEN I RECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL WHEN THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. THIS WAS 4 MONTHS AGO. NOW THAT MY DOOR WILL NOT LATCH I AM TOLD THAT I CAN BRING IT IN, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS, CANNOT GUARANTEE A LOANER, AND THAT I HAVE TO SIGN A WAIVER STATING I WILL PAY $180 FOR AN INSPECTION IF IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND UNWILLING TO POSSIBLY PAY FOR THEM TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION WHILE DRIVING. ONCE MY CAR STILL SHOWED IN DRIVE, BUT WAS IN NEUTRAL WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 40 MPH WITH CARS BEHIND ME. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PLACE THE CAR IN PARK AND BACK INTO DRIVE. I HAVE HAD 2 SIMILAR INCIDENTS SINCE THEN, THOUGH THE CAR STILL WORKED, BUT FELT LIKE I WAS GRINDING MY GEARS. ALL WERE ON CITY STREETS, LUCKILY NOT THE HIGHWAY.
I BOUGHT MY CAR LAST YEAR AT CARMAN FORD, WITH ABOUT 91,905 MILES IN AN "AS IT IS" CONTRACT. I ALSO PURCHASED AN ADDITIONAL GUARANTEE FOR UP TO 24,000M. I TOOK THE CAR TO REGULAR INSPECTIONS TO THE DEALER, NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED. THEN, I HIT 117,609 MILES, AND MY STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED COMPLETELY, AND I HAD NO GUARANTEE. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, WHILE DRIVING, I FELT THAT THE WHEEL WAS MOVED SLIGHTLY TO ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD (HIGHWAY). I ASKED ABOUT THIS TO THE DEALER AFTER AN OIL INSPECTION; THEY SAID THAT PROBABLY IT WAS AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE. RECENTLY, THEY SAID NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED BEFORE. "STEERING WHEEL ASSISTANCE REQUIRED" APPEARED ON THE SCREEN. WHILE DRIVING TO THE SHOP, IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN EITHER WAY. IT WAS VERY HARD TO DRIVE. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THEY DID NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM EARLIER. HOWEVER, IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO DO A RECALL OR SOMETHING. I THINK THAT THE CAR IS NOT SUPER OLD AND MOST OF THE MILEAGE WAS BECAUSE I HAVE A LONG COMMUTE, I DRIVE MOSTLY ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS ODD THAT A 2012 CAR HAS SUCH A PROBLEM. COULDN'T GO TO WORK, SCHOOL, SINCE SUDDENLY THE CAR STOPPED WORKING ON FRIDAY 02/03/17. I HAD TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO GET ANOTHER CAR. OVERALL, SO MUCH LOSS AND DRAMA INVOLVED WITH THIS INCIDENT AND I FEEL IT IS UNFAIR THAT THIS HAPPENED SINCE THE CAR HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND IS NOT SUPER OLD.
WHEN I START THE CAR INITIALLY I CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL OF THE CAR. I HAVE TO TUG ON IT TO GET IT TO TURN EVENTUALLY. I'M AFRAID THAT I'LL BE DRIVING IN THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT. ALSO HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING. THEY SAY MY CAR HAS TOO MANY MILES TO QUALIFY FOR THE CLUTCH RECALL THAT FORD HAS PUT OUT. I DON'T SEE WHAT THIS HAS TO DO WITH A MALFUNCTION SAYING I'VE HAD TROUBLES WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES ARE SAFETY ISSUES. I HAVE NO MONEY TO REPLACE THIS STUFF. SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD WON'T WORK WITH PEOPLE ON THIS THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THE STEERING AS I SEEN MANY OTHERS COMPLAINING ABOUT IT. AND THEY NEED TO SUCK IT UP AND TAKE THE EXPENDITURE OF REPLACING ALL OF THESE CRUTCHES THAT THEY HAVE A RECALL ON REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. SOMETIMES MY SEATBELT COMES LOOSE AFTER I CLICKED IT. I HAVE TO LATCH IT WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE. I'M TIRED OF THIS CAR. I'LL NEVER BUY FROM FORD AGAIN. I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. AND HAVE INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY CLEAN THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT PERIOD AFTER TAKING IT TOO BUT IT'S GOING TO COST ME $3,000.

IT SHOWED PROBLEMS AT 117650 MILES. THIS IS A SCAM, I PAID FOR INSURANCE AND I BROUGHT THE CAR TO CHANGE THE OIL EARLIER ANS THEY DIDN'T FIND ANY DEFECT. NOW, I CANT USE MY CAR. I WAS IN MOTION, THE CAR SEEMED TO MOVE TO ONE SIDE, THEN AT HOME WHILE STATIONED, I COULDN'T MOVE THE CAR AT ALL. NO EVEN RIGHT OR LEFT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE DEALER WOULD GET BACK IN TOUCH WITH THE CONTACT; HOWEVER, TOO MUCH TIME HAD LAPSED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING FAILED AFTER 116,000 DUE TO MANUFACTURERS PLACEMENT OF ELECTRONIC BOX LOCATION 3" (THREE INCHES) AWAY FROM EXHAUST MANIFOLD, THEREBY DESTROYING ELECTRONICS INSIDE SEALED BOX. MAKES STEERING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. FAILURE IN PARKING LOT AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT A PARKED CAR WHILE TRYING TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPACE.

FOR A FEW WEEKS WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE THE POWER STEERING (EPS) DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY WORK. AFTER A MINUTE IT ENGAGES AND WORKS. HOWEVER, IT CURRENTLY IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND RECEIVED THE WARNING "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND THEN HAD TO DRIVE ABOUT 5 MILES HOME ON CITY STREETS WITH NO POWER STEERING. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. MY CONCERN IS THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
ON 2 SEPERATE OCCASSIONS WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED AFTER HOURS OF NON USE, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE INDICATOR MESSAGE IN THE CAR STATES NO STEERING ASSIST. THE CAR COULD BE MANUALLY STEERED WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY.THE CAR WAS IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, SO IT COULD BE MANUEVERED SAFELY AND PARKED. WHEN TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AFTER THE FIRST EVENT, NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND. ONE WEEK LATER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND WAS TAKEN BACK FOR SERVICE AGAIN.
I STARTED MY CAR THIS MORNING, PUT IT IN REVERSE AND BEGAN TO BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE CAR LOCKED UP AND LOST POWER. I COULD NOT STEER OR BRAKE AND THE CAR CONTINUED ROLLING BACKWARDS UNTIL IT HIT MY GARAGE AND STOPPED. THE LIGHTS CAME ON MY DASH READ "(I) STEERING ASSIST FAULT". I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, THE STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKED AND I WAS ABLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE AND GAIN FULL CONTROL OF MY CAR AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY FORD DEALER IN KANNAPOLIS, NC (WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR) AND THEY SAID THE CAR WOULD NEED TO "DUPLICATE THE ERROR" BEFORE THEY COULD DIAGNOSE IT. I EXPLAINED THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE IN MOTION FOR THAT TO HAPPEN AND I CANNOT STOP THE CAR IF THAT HAPPENS AGAIN. I DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE AND I AM PETRIFIED THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE I AM ON THE ROAD AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. THE TECH SAID THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LOSS OF STEERING POWER ON THESE FORDS, BUT THAT UNTIL FORD ISSUES AN OFFICIAL RECALL THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO FIX IT. IT COULD BE AS SIMPLE AS A SOFTWARE UPDATE.
I'VE HAD MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH ISSUES AND IT CONTINUES NO MATTER WHAT TEMPORARY FIX FORD GIVES. I'VE HAD 2 CLUTCHES PUT IN AND MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SHAKING AND THE CAR JERKING AND ALSO THE CAR WONT SHIFT SOMETIMES AND ACCELERATES OUT OF NOWHERE. TODAY, AND THE REASON I'M COMPLAINING, MY TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING UP AND THEN MY "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION" LIGHT CAME ON AND AND THE CAR JERKED AND WOULDNT SHIFT AND CAUSED ME TO ALMOST LOSE CONTROL. THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. I INLY HAVE ONE PICTURE BUT HAVE ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS

TOOK CAR TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED PAID TO PUT THE CAR ON THE COMPUTER AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP 45 MINUTES AWAY. WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS DANGEROUS. *TR
MY SON GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT WITH HIS 2012 FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK AND HIS AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NONE WHATSOEVER HE ENDED UP WITH BRUISE SHOULDERS HIS FRIEND WITH A SCRAPED KNEE HIS CAR A TOTAL LOSS BUT NONE OF HIS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
THE CAR RANDOMLY LOOSES POWER STEERING FUNCTION AND BECOMES VERY HARD TO STEER, EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS FINE. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME BUT USUALLY WHEN FIRST STARTING THE CAR AND CAN SELF RESOLVE IN A FEW SECONDS OR NOT AT ALL. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I'M PRETTY STRONG AND A BIG GUY AND I STILL STRUGGLE TO KEEP THIS THING ON THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENS.

UPON DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON A ROAD OR HIGHWAY - THE TRANSMISSION WILL RANDOMLY NOT SHIFT CAUSING THE CAR TO REV UP HIGH WHILE OTHER TIMES THE CAR WILL SIMPLY REFUSE TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS IS BEING PRESSED. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHAKE, SHUDDER, AND MAKE NOISE UPON ACCELERATING AND CHANGING GEARS. WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT/STOP SIGN AND THE CAR IS AT A COMPLETE STOP - THE TRANSMISSION WILL OFTEN DISENGAGE AND THE CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKE WAS FIRMLY PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. UPON LANE CHANGES, THE TRANSMISSION WILL RANDOMLY REFUSE TO ACCELERATE THE CAR AT ALL.
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME VIA TYPICAL CITY STREETS AND THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT CATCH GEAR AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN. IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT TO LOOK UNDER THE CAR AND SEE IF THERE WAS ANY VISUAL DAMAGE. NOTHING VISUAL BUT THERE WAS A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. A WARNING APPEARED "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW" I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO GET DOWN THE STREET TO A SAFE PARKING SPOT AND BEFORE COMING TO A STOP THE "TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING" WARNING APPEARED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 2 YEARS THAT THE CAR HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THERE WERE SEVERAL TSB'S ISSUED BY FORD FOR THE TRANSMISSION ON THE FOCUS AND I HAD MY CAR SERVICED ACCORDINGLY SO I WAS ASSUMING THE PROBLEMS WERE FIXED.
MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE DPS6 TRANSMISSIONS. THIS INCLUDES THE CLUTCH SLIPPAGE AND "JUDDER" WHEN SHIFTING AND I HAVE ALSO HAD MY TCM FAIL ENTIRELY WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION RESULTING IN THE ENGINE BEING SHUT DOWN SUDDENLY SO ALL POWER WAS LOST. BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, I HAD NO POWER STEERING. FORTUNATELY, AT THAT TIME, I WAS ON A RURAL HIGHWAY AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RE-START AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER FOR A TCM REPLACEMENT. I HAVE HAD 3 CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION SEAL REPLACEMENTS COMPLETED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM FOR THIS VEHICLE BUT I AM NOW OUTSIDE THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD SO ANY FURTHER REPLACEMENTS WILL BE AT MY COST. THE MILEAGE INTERVALS BETWEEN THE CLUTCH REPLACEMENTS WERE ONLY 10,000 AND 7,000 MILES. SOME PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR OIL AT A SIMILAR INTERVAL. I AM AGAIN EXPERIENCING A SHUDDER DURING SHIFTING IN THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN AVOIDING DRIVING IT FOR THIS REASON. I HATE TO SPEND THE MONEY ON A NEW CLUTCH AS I THINK IT WILL BE JUST A TEMPORARY FIX AND A VERY EXPENSIVE ONE. NOW I READ THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE THESE VEHICLES WERE BEING SOLD YET THEY STILL PUT THEM ON THE MARKET. THIS DISREGARD FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THEY NEED TO DO A LOT MORE TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE SADDLED WITH THIS BREACH OF OUR SAFETY AND TRUST.

IN JANUARY, 2017 I HAD MY 2012 FOCUS HATCHBACK CHECKED OUT FOR AN ONGOING GRINDING NOISE ONLY PRESENT WHEN TURNING. MY LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THIS AS A FAILING RACK AND PINION WHICH NEEDED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT TO AVOID A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. A $1700 REPAIR FOR A MAJOR COMPONENT ON A 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH ONLY ~40K MILES. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD, CURRENTLY LOOKING AT OTHER BRANDS FOR A NEW PURCHASE.

THE CONTACT CALLED ROY O'BRIEN FORD AT 586-776-7600 (LOCATED AT 22201 E 9 MILE RD, ST CLAIR SHORES, MI 48080) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ELDER FORD (888-467-5023, LOCATED AT 777 JOHN R RD, TROY, MI 48083) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY EXPLANATION FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
