My Ford Focus has a Steering Assist Fault. It failed in October 2022, and now I'm having to pay for replacement of the system because there is no recall on it for the Focus, unlike other models.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the driver's side door failed to close and remained ajar because the door would not latch securely. The contact used a rope to keep the door closed while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the door lock assembly was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred three and half weeks later with the rear driver's side door latch. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 16V643000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) and 20V331000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 77,671.
Horn stopped working three times. Was replaced by a certified mechanic both times and once again horn stopped working. Horn is getting wet because of its placement from what the mechanic he also said it’s a safety issue that does needs to recall
In 2017 a Ford mechanic shop accepted my 2013 automatic transmission Ford Focus Titanium due to a factory transmission recall. They paid to have the entire transmission replaced (supposedly), which at that time it was at about 70-78k miles. I haven’t driven it over 59k miles at most since then. That’s no less than 19k miles under from the time before. A local Ford dealer (Sam Galloway Ford in Fort Myers, Florida) informed me the issues are a bearing, the clutch and clutch actuator that need to be replaced, which costs about $3.7k with the diagnostic fee, which I shouldn’t have to pay for due to the issues resulting from what Ford knew of years ago & the fact the “fix” was like that off using a dirty band-aid that failed to provide conscious moral safety for me the owner/traveler via using it. Furthermore, the issues with it pose a tragic liability to other peoples’ health & lives that have been threatened as well as my health wherein this dangerous vehicle insufferably delays with upshifting automatically, jerks & fails to accelerate in legal traffic that requires all travelers to go when the light is green of which I could have gotten ticketed for! Ford needs to make this financially right for me by covering the repairs or buy the vehicle from me of which I’ve owned since about 33k miles near the end of 2015 (I’m the 2nd car owner).
Like me and countless others, the transmission shutters at low speed causing a safety issue, apparently people have been having this issue even out the door when their cars had 100 miles on them, I just got mine and it has this issue, I'm gonna go see how much it is to get fixed but I'd like it if I didnt have to pay since so many others are also having this issue
While accelerating from a stop or low speed the engine revs and does not shift gears. Impossible to increase speed above about 30 mph. After taking my foot off the gas pedal and trying, again it sometimes works fine for awhile. Intermittent, but dangerous, since I never know when pressing the gas pedal will make the car move forward or just rev the engine with no effect.
Could not get tires rotated due to "swollen"lug nuts. Also the tool to fix a flat tire will no longer fit the lug nuts due to the swelling of the lug nuts. I feel like this is a very serious safety issue and we, the owners should not have the burden of having this situation fixed!! Please help!! Thank you

My transmission went out on me and I was stuck right in the middle on the highway. That puts everyone’s safety at risk. These Automatic transmission’s are faulty from factory and Ford is refusing to “FIX” them. They will only accept to update the TCM and that’s not a fix when it has internal problems. I did get a warning on the screen saying transmission malfunction and a check engine light.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the RPM revved 6,000 RPM and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated he was unable to shift out of first and second gear however, the transmission independently shifted to fourth gear. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the TCM needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that the warranty had expired and would not apply towards the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 184,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the carbon canister and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V515000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the vehicle had been previously repaired under the recall. The contact was informed that the vehicle would be repaired out of pocket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and transferred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 33,000.
Transmission Control Module (TCM) The transmission Is a known problem to Ford. Auto shops won’t even look at the vehicle because it’s an unfixable problem. Ford dealers have no answer other then replace TCM and maybe you’ll get some more miles out of the car, but of course the part is backordered, over 77,000 cars waiting, and no idea when part will be available. Car is totally unreliable. Shifts gears inconsistently, at times won’t go into Drive, often times vehicle won’t even start. All I can do with it now is to leave it sit parked and not use it. Extremely disappointing that Ford has known of this issue for years and not fixed it or put a buyback into place.
Bought my car from a dealer Ford and it was fine to start out then the battery died put a new one in kept doing what it was took it in to Ford They said it was the battery so I bought a new battery I asked them to check the alternator starter and the electrical wiring and things to see if they were something wrong with them they told me no that they had checked each one I can’t be driving in the whole car will shut off and shut back on then when you get in it the next day there is no electrical working had to call [XXX] when I was grocery shopping to have them to come look at it they jarred the car little bit and it started up then my brother got in the car to start it lights and dash lights kept going off like it was possessed but would not start Would like to know if they are any recalls on the electrical of the car it’s a 2013 Ford Focus INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Dual clutch recall with actuators and TCM, FORD won't fix recall because it's on a national back order.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the catalytic converter and vacuum hose needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Car acted like the battery was dead, then when the car started the Check Engine Light engaged. The car did not have to be jumped. Put the car in Drive and accelerated. The Transmission changed gears rather rough. After a couple miles the car, although in reverse or drive had, zero acceleration power. Seemed as though I was in Park or Neutral. The 3rd day with this issue, I was prompted that the Transmission was overheating. Please note that the car had been started and in park for 5 minutes. Took the vehicle to the auto shop and found the TCM failed at 54 thousand miles. Before this issue there was not any sign of issues. Looked at my maintenance records and found the TCM had been reprogrammed by an Official Authorized Ford Dealership.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the RPM revved up and the vehicle started shuddering. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure would stop after driving for an extended period. However, the failure had been reoccurring while driving from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the used car dealer where an unknown software was reprogrammed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the used car dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,042.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at 35 MPH, the vehicle shifted into neutral unintendedly and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that she was able to restart the vehicle after waiting for 5 minutes. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (TCM) had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the part was replaced a month and half later as it was on back order; however, the failure reoccurred while driving a year later. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that transmission control module (TCM) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The 2013 Ford focus has a manufacturer defect that the ford has been aware of. The vehicle has slowed down to 15 mph while I driving the expressway making it very unsafe. When I took it back to the dedealership I was told that I could not drive the car but no rental car would be provided to me. It has been over a month with no rental car and being unable to drive my vehicle, and Ford has not to accountability for the inconvenience that this has caused.
Ford extended the warranty for the Transmission Control Module to 150,000 miles. Mine has failed at 160,000 miles but there is possibility for extension through Ford, they stated that this mileage is set by NHTSA. I don't mind repair cost, but to add insult the part is not available for 2 months as stated by the service department at the dealership. With current market situation, the mileage should be extended. This failure makes the car unsafe to drive, Ford should extend the warranty mileage further, especially in the current market of vehicle availability. Also, Ford needs to work with a supplier to improve lead times.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 15-20 MPH with his daughter in the front passenger's side seat, the front passenger's side door opened inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and closed the door; however, the door failed to close securely. The contact stated that the door unintendedly opened for a second time. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who informed the contact that they could not repair the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V643000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) due to the vehicle having a Salvage Title. Additionally, the dealer failed to honor the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V735000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). However, the contact stated that the vehicle still had the original parts impacted by the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
I was driving 65mph on CA highway 880 in the left carpool lane. Suddenly my transmission slipped and my car ended up in neutral. I was forced to park in whatever space there was between the concrete barrier and the carpool lane. After the car stopped, the transmission would not re-engage for another 3 minutes or so. After that it re-engaged and I was able to drive back home. My understanding this is one of the issues that can be expected with a Ford DPS6 transmission. COMPLETELY UNSAFE. I had two young children in the car.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the message "Transmission Overheating" was displayed, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch, kit seal, bearing, and fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
The stereo has faulty mosfet components IT SOUNDS LIKE MACHINE GUN SHOTS I almost hit another car and drove off the road. Even when the car is off it does this! this is a MAJOR safety issue no one is doing ANYTHING about. Half my dashboard is on my floor in order to make this stop! I can’t lock or unlock my doors without the key fob so if I needed to get out of the vehicle fast I have to reach in my pocket to hit the key fob. The radio also drains the battery while the car is off and making VERY LOUD MACHINE GUN SHOT NOISES. A new stereo unit is about $1000 this is a MAJOR safety problem as you can’t even turn the volume down ITS ON FULL BLAST! Whether the radio is on or off the only option is to take the 1.5’by1.5’ section of the dash “the whole middle” and put it somewhere else until this can be fixed! RANDOM FULL BLAST GUN SHOTS ARE NOT SAFE! I’ve read a LOT of forums and there are A LOT of people that have been in accidents because this is so LIAD and uncontrollable. Please let me know what I am supposed to do about this as your site says the radio is not covered? I’ve driving down the highway and the gunshots go off NON STOP for random lengths of time it is NO EXAGGERATION ITS AS LOUD AS GUN SHOTS! I shouldn’t have to drive my car with ear plugs or headphones I wear at the gun club while shooting guns! The mosfets on the pcb board are not adequately cooled, they break down because the heat for the car blows HOT AIR right on/around them. The design of the stereo uses the plate on the back to keep them cool, not possible while running the heater! I am unsure what to do as I need to be able to safely drive my car without it shoot full blast blank gun shots at me!also the FUSE for the radio does NOT blow shutting the stereo off when this happens. The mosfets get so hot I worry I’ll have an electrical fire while driving! This radio is NOT SAFE when the cheap components don’t function correctly and the safety features like fuses DONT WORK! I DONT WANT TO CRASH!
Car Mileage is 67K. Noticed the car is shuddering and little jerk upon moving the car, upon calling the ford customer service, was being told there is a recall for transmission control module, went to a service center and was been told it needs a full transmission replacement and there was no control module affected. I have noticed in the forums that it is common problem across all Ford Focus and causes shuddering. This has caused me a concern given the mileage is less than 68K and the transmission has gone bad incurring huge budget for repairs. There are no warning lamps or any other symptoms.
My daughter has a 2013 Ford Focus SE and has had numerous issues with her transmission which of recent has presented some serious safety concerns. She had driven her car to work and when attempting to leave after work was unable to get her car to move . She put the car in drive and reved the engine then in reverse the same , would not move. We had the car towed to Sarchione Ford of Alliance and was diagnosed as the Transmission Actuator A . My understanding of the Actuator is it engaged the transmission into gear. I recently read an article in a Ford Forum relating to the April 2020 Class Action Suit and I quote a blogger stated that this defect can abruptly cause car to jump into gear which could cause a safety issue . Another blogger stated that he had a similar issue while on an expressway traveling fast and ended up on the shoulder until eventually getting the car to move again. My daughter's Ford Focus 2013 has had 2 recalls issued relating to the transmission. Program #14M01 Transmission Clutch Shudder / Transmission input seal Warranty extension which is no longer valid. Program #14M02 Transmission Control Module which has been extended to 150,000 mile or until February of next year. Both of the said recalls we're mandated due to the numerous safety concerns relating to failure or uprupt operation due to design defect and no fought of the vehicle operation. So I pose a very simple question, why has not Actuator A and B of the Ford Focus been issued recalls when failure of said parts presents safety concerns? There should be a warranty extension mandate to repair at no cost to vehicle owner. All of these said parts work together when operational to perform safe driving practices on the contrary the motorists are left at risk regarding highway safety. I have written a letter to CEO Jim Farley to reevaluate his Customer Satisfaction Program and recall procedure. The NHTSA needs to review the said safety concerns. I have filed with Ford Motor PAS-37493284.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle failed to restart immediately. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle started but then lost motive power and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V515000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were contacted and notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was 129,000.
Faulty canister purge valve caused vehicle to stall and shut down while driving on public roads. Canister purge valve is also causing check engine code P0420. Catalytic converter is also giving out while operating causing a lot of white smoke from the exhaust and catalytic converter.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the transmission failed to shift as designed. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was shifted into gear, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance but was diagnosed or repaired. The transmission on our 2013 has now failed. We brought it to Ford’s attention back During the Covid shut down before The Focus reached the 100,000 mile expiration. Ford said there’s nothing they can do about it. We gingerly drove the car to make the transmission last as long as possible and it lasted quite a while. However now the transmission has failed it and after taking the vehicle to a certified mechanic they found the DTC Code showed P0805:00-68, The description was clutch position sensor A circuit, and the status was continuous memory DTCs, another code PC805 had a similar description and a status of “freeze frame module2”. Certified mechanic check this out and reported this information to me told me to go to a transmission specialist. The transmission specialist said it would cost at least $500, but if it turned out that the central module was at fault there aren’t any parts to be had. Ford is not making any of them anymore. They said I could pay the $500 and then your car will sit because there’s no parts to fix the central module. I would like the car repaired but I have another question. Why isn’t the NHTSA Making Ford fix this issue. Ford new their transmissions were faulty and sold the automobiles anyway. Where is the NHTSA on this issue? Well I be able to get the Ford focus fixed?
There have been several lawsuits filed and settled for the vehicle in question previously. Most recently, Ford was having so many issues with models 2011-2016 Ford Focus cars that they were taken to court over the matter related to the transmission control module in the vehicle. This was settled and Ford placed and extended warranty on vehicles of that model should customers have issues. However upon taking the vehicle to a Ford dealership, they are saying that that is not in fact the issue with the car, it is the clutch in the transmission which they also had an extended warranty on that expired conveniently not long before this happened. The clutch going out would mean that I would not be able to go and I would be stuck where the car sits. I have reached out to several other independent mechanic shops and every single one of them have stated that it is only a matter of time before the transmission control module breaks as it sounds like it is not functioning correctly now. I would also like to state that in no way did Ford attempt to contact me about any of these issues involving my car via and email or letter. They knew of the issues that could happen and the risks involved with me continuing to drive the car around and did nothing. The vehicle has been sitting for 7 months now as Ford has deemed it worthless. A vehicle that they sold me they will not even negotiate for because of how broken it is. I find this to be extremely irresponsible and quite frankly I do not have the money to be doing this.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The transmission and the clutch are faulty from when they were originally made. I had it diagnosed at a ford dealership. I have taken it into the shop 3+ times and have spent thousand to fix it. My car is an automatic, but it shifts gears like it’s a manual. The “faulty transmission” alert will show up without warning and my car won’t start leaving me stranded. I’ve had to tow it twice. The car is unreliable and unsafe. It begins to shift even worse right before the “faulty transmission” alert then it won’t start. It’s acting up right now and I’m afraid.
Lost power while driving on highway. Ford dealership identified problem with TCM. Car has not been repaired at this time. Waiting for back ordered TCM.
My Transmission Control Module went out on my 2013 Ford Focus SE and is supposed to be covered by the Transmission Control Module Extended Warranty Coverage provided by Ford but the part has not been delivered and Ford has not fixed the issue and is causing more damage to my vehicle and it’s capability to safely transport me anywhere.

Power steering assist failure. On the freeway. Hard to steer. Then when I made it home (thankfully) turned into the driveway, turned the car off. Then when I tried to start it later, the wheel had completely locked up. Couldn't move the car. If it would have done that on the freeway, I would have died.

Sometimes the engine will not start. I have to continue attempting start until I hear a noise on the motor then it starts. Then if it goes in gear it will drop out of gear while driving. Most of the time I have to shut the vehicle off and restart multiple times to get it working again. I may be on the side of the road for 45 minutes or an hour waiting for it to reboot and start working again. Thus I don’t allow my fiancé to drive it by herself and this is not good.
This message is a complaint about my local car dealership and the car manufacturer of my vehicle. I will try to follow the general guidelines as much as possible. First off, I have a 2013 Ford Focus with numerous recalls. I recently dropped the vehicle off at my local car dealership the have those recalls worked on...and ONLY those recalls. The recalls include: - faulty transmission control module (TCM) - canister purge valve (CPV) being stuck open causing the plastic fuel tank to deform, causing incorrect gas tank readings - door latches not being secure - software update of the vehicle's computer...to also correct false computer readings. Symptoms I have with the vehicle are as follows: - difficulty with ignition, as I have to turn the key multiple times to start the vehicle; also happens when putting in gas - constant jerking of the vehicle while driving, especially when starting from a stop - stalling of the vehicle, especially when driving uphill - engine light always on - incorrect gas reading; fuel gauge goes up and down. When I dropped my vehicle off at the dealership, I was assured that if the problems were any of the recalls, they would be free of charge. Fast-forward a couple of weeks later and I'm being told that I now owe over $1,000 in labor fees! On top of that I am being told that I owe a $180 diagnostic fee. I was told of two things that were replaced on the vehicle: the canister purge valve (which I already stated IS one of the recalls) and some random sensor, which they had no right to replace without my permission. I am being told neither of these things are covered since the car dealership and manufacturer suddenly don't consider these recalls. The excuse I have been given is the "codes" of the vehicle don't give the same information. I am in utter disbelief of everything I am being told. The recall letters clearly state repairs that are part of a recall are free of charge. Absolutely ridiculous.
