IN 2/13, MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A '13 FORD FOCUS FROM BREWSTER FORD IN NY. UNFORTUNATELY, OUR CAR HAS NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. IT RANDOMLY LOSES POWER. IT FEELS LIKE THE GAS PEDAL DOESN'T RESPOND SOMETIMES WHEN WE TRY TO ACCELERATE. OUR CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THEIR SERVICE CENTER FOR THE 4TH ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY INTERVENTION. 3 OF THE MASTER MECHANICS, SCOTTY, CARLISLE, AND ANTHONY, SAY THEY HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT REPAIRING ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THAT THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. 5/28/13 THE HESITATION AND NONRESPONSIVE ACCELERATION INCREASED AND WE BROUGHT OUR CAR TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND PAID FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WE WERE GIVEN THE CAR BACK AND TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM FOUND. 6/14/13 WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE WAS AN UPDATE FOR THE COMPUTER AND WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE FIXED. 12/9/13 WE CAME BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THIS TIME THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE NYS THRUWAY AND THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. AGAIN THE CAR WAS GIVEN BACK AND WE WERE TOLD NO PROBLEM FOUND. THEY SAID THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. IT HAD BEEN ON FOR TWO DAYS PRIOR. 12/18/13 WE BROUGHT OUR CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER. AFTER WE CALLED FORD CORPORATE FOR HELP, THE SERVICE MANAGER, DANIELLE GOT INVOLVED. THE GAS MILEAGE DROPPED AT THIS TIME FROM 32-27 MILES/GALLON COMBINED. OUR CAR WAS AT BREWSTER FORDS SERVICE CENTER FOR OVER 30 DAYS WITHOUT BEING CONTACTED ONCE. WHEN MY HUSBAND CALLED TO CHECK ON THE STATUS, HE WAS TOLD THEY WERE WAITING ON A SERVICE ENGINEER TO COME OUT. AFTER SPEAKING TO ANGELA, THE REGIONAL MANAGER FROM FORD, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SERVICE CENTER IS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND WE SHOULD AGAIN TAKE OUR UNSAFE CAR. 1/23/14 TODAY THE REGIONAL MANAGER AGREED TO APPROVE A SECOND OPINION.
VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED 3 TIMES, FIRST TIME WHEN THE CAR WAS 2 DAYS OLD (TO ME). VEHICLE LAGS, GRINDS, OVER-REVS, UNDER-REVS AND STUTTERS ON HILLS AND SOMETIMES FLAT LAND TOO. PARTICULARLY BAD WHEN TURNING. 3 ATTEMPTED FIXES, NO REAL IMPROVEMENTS, ONLY DIFFERENT ISSUES GOT BETTER WHILE OTHERS GOT WORSE. FIRST ATTEMPTED FIX CLAIMED A SECTION OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, SECOND THEY FOUND A LEAK IN THE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH I FOUND NOTHING IN MY GARAGE AND 3RD WAS MY COMPLAINING OF THE ISSUES NOT BEING RESOLVED YET. AFTER 3RD FIX, CAR IS AS BAD AS EVER. *TR
FROM DAY 1, THE TRANSMISSION HAS EXCESSIVELY SLIPPED THROUGH 1ST GEAR AS THOUGH THE CLUTCH IS NOT BEING PROPERLY ENGAGED (DUAL CLUTCH TRANSAXLE). AT ONE POINT, THE CAR BUCKED UPON ACCELERATION FORCEFULLY AS THOUGH IT STALLED. THE PROBLEM IS MOST SEVERE WHEN AMBIENT TEMPERATURES ARE OVER 90 DEGREES (COMMON HERE IN ARIZONA). THE PCM HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED TWICE BY THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THE FIRST 1000 MILES, THE SLIPPAGE SUBSIDED (FOR THE MOST PART). RECENTLY, THE CAR WAS IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK, THE 1ST GEAR SLIPPAGE WAS BACK VERY NOTICEABLY. I'M NOT SURE IF THE DEALERSHIP REPROGRAMMED THE PCM DURING ITS VISIT AS THERE IS NOTHING ON THE PAPERWORK STATING SUCH. AT TIMES, MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS IN TRAFFIC IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE OF THE CARS HESITATION TO ACCELERATE. IT'S OBVIOUSLY A PROGRAMMING ISSUE WITH HOW THE CLUTCH IS BEING ENGAGED BY THE COMPUTER... AS THOUGH THE CLUTCH IS ONLY BEING HALF ENGAGED DURING 1ST GEAR ACCELERATION. *TR
VEHICLE SHUDDERS BETWEEN SHIFT POINTS, HESITATES AS THOUGH STALLED AND SUFFERS FROM POWER TRAIN RATTLING. EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE POWER TRAIN HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED MULTIPLE TIMES AS WELL AS CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT THE ISSUES RETURN. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING FINE ONE MOMENT, AND THE NEXT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OVER 15 MPH. I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE FLASHERS ON UNTIL I COULD SAFELY PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION. AFTER SOME HOURS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR CHECKED OUT FINE AND COULD NOT FIND WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. LATER, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THAT THEY HAD FOUND A "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN" REGARDING THIS VERY ISSUE. DEALERSHIP DID A CALIBRATION AND POST ROAD TEST OK AT THIS TIME. I WANTED A RELIABLE CAR THAT I COULD DEPEND ON, AND NOW HAVE TRUST ISSUES WITH IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AND JERKING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND TO A MECHANIC, WHO BOTH STATED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 210. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,600.
WHEN TURNING A CORNER AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE CARE SHUDDERED AND MADE LOUD NOISES. IT PROGRESSED TO SHUDDERING EVERY TIME I ACCELERATED...CLIMBING SMALL GRADE, CHANGING SPEED ZONES ETC. THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC CAR. I HAD IT INTO SHOP WHERE THEY CLEANED CLUTCHES AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND NOW THERE WAS SHUDDERING WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO BACK DOWN A SMALL DRIVE WAY INCLINE. THE CAR CONTINUES TO SHUDDER AND MAKE NOISE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TELLS ME THE CAR NEEDS TO LEARN MY DRIVING STYLE....BS. THIS IS EMBARRASSING AND FRUSTRATING NOT TO MENTION THAT I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING A CAR WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT MORE, BUT I REFUSE TO DRIVE A BRAND NEW CAR WITH THESE ISSUES. *JS
TRANSMISSION STUTTERED, JERKED UPON RECEIPT OF OWNERSHIP. NORTHGATE FORD SERVICEMAN, UPON REPORT, ASSURED ME THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. TRANSMISSION BROKE AFTER THE WARRANTY AND I WAS STUCK WITH ALL THE COST OF REPAIR PLUS RENTAL CAR UNTIL THE FOTRD FOCUS WAS REPAIRED. I WILL ACCEPT NOTHING BUT A TOTAL REIMBURSEMENT OF MY COSTS FOR REPAIR AND CAR RENTAL.
VEHICLE HAS HAD OIL LEAKING INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT SINCE PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2012. AT 3000 MILES, REAR ENGINE SEAL REPLACED - LEAKS CONTINUED. REAR MAIN ENGINE SEAL REPLACED AGAIN AT 8000 MILES - ENGINE COMPARTMENT LEAKS CONTINUED. AFTER TWO MORE VISITS TO DEALER AND TWO ADDITIONAL TRIP TO DIFFERENT DEALERS, THIRD SERVICE DEPT. CLAIMS THAT TRANSMISSION IS SOURCE OF LEAK, NOT ENGINE. IF THIS IS THE CASE, THEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR OVER 11,250 MILES WITH INSUFFICIENT TRANSMISSION LUBRICANT - GREAT CAUSE FOR CONCERN. *TR
FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC VEHICLE STOPS SUDDENLY WITH "STOP SAFELY NOW". WHEN THIS OCCURS DRIVER (ME) LOOSES ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THIS EVEN OCCURRED TODAY AND LEFT US IN DANGER ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE WE NERVOUSLY WAITED FOR PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE. MANY REPORTS OF THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL VEHICLE ON THE PUBLIC FORUMS. CONCERN OF LOSS OF POWER TRAIN COULD MEAN INJURIES OR DEATH DEPENDING ON THE MOMENT A CAR LOOSES IT'S ABILITY TO DRIVE WHILE MOBILE. *TR
I PURCHASED THE 2013 FORD FOCUS BRAND NEW ON 2-09-13. CAR BARELY HAS 1800 MILES ON IT. WHILE SLOWING DOWN IN A SCHOOL ZONE TO 15MPH, I NOTICED THE CAR SEEMED TO LOSE POWER, AND FEEL SHAKY. ONCE PAST THE SCHOOL ZONE I ACCELERATED TO 20MPH AND CAR SHIFTED ROUGHLY INTO GEAR WITH A BUMPING NOISE. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER RESTARTING CAR INITIALLY SEEMED FINE. EXACTLY ONE WEEK LATER SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN IN SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT. THIS TIME HOWEVER THE ORANGE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE AN OUTLINE OF THE ENGINE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD PANEL. I STOPPED THE CAR AGAIN. WHEN RESTARTING THE LIGHT WENT OUT BUT REAPPEARED ON THE 2 MILE DRIVE HOME FROM THE STORE. CAR ALSO SEEMED TO LOSE POWER AND NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I NEEDED IT TO. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP 1ST THING AND WAS TOLD IT'S MOST LIKELY A SENSOR ISSUE AND VERY MINOR BUT I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND TOOK THE CAR IN. THE DEALERSHIP RAN COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS AND SERVICE MGR. CAME IN AND TOLD ME 2 ERROR CODES SHOWED UP OF TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION/ AND POSSIBLE FAILURE! A BRAND NEW CAR!!! THEY STARTED TALKING ABOUT REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ON BOARD COMPUTER, ETC.. BUT DEALERSHIP CAN'T REPAIR MY CAR AT THIS TIME BECAUSE A SPECIALIST THEY DON'T HAVE ON STAFF NEEDS TO BE CALLED IN. SO I HAVE AN UN SAFE, UNRELIABLE NEW CAR SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. 15 CALLS TO DEALERSHIP AND TO FORD'S CUSTOMER RELATIONS NUMBER AND I CAN'T EVEN GET AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE CAR LOOKED AT FURTHER TO DETERMINE HOW DEFECTIVE IT IS!!! WHAT A LEMON! NO MATTER HOW THIS IS RESOLVED, WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH FORD AGAIN. THEY SEEM UNCONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY ISSUES THIS DEFECT IS CAUSING AND THEY HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN, SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO DRIVE BUT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE SURGING AND ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80. UPDATED 11/19/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE ISSUE WAS REPAIRED. THE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUED STAY ON WHEN THE BRAKE WAS NOT DEPRESSED.
THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT RIGHT. IT HESITATES, JERKS AND SURGING. AT LOWER GEARS OR SPEED UNDER 40, THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. IT SHIFT TO HIGHER GEAR WHEN THE SPEED IS NOT HIGH ENOUGH FOR THE GEAR. THIS CAUSES POOR ACCELERATION AND DANGEROUS WHEN MERGING INTO HIGHWAY FROM RAMP. *TR
TRANSMISSION SURGES DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. ALMOST LIKE INSUFFICIENT FUEL BEING RECEIVED BY ENGINE. DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS DUE TO FORD "POWERSHIFT" TRANSMISSION AND NOT FUEL LINE. CAUSES CONCERN FOR SAFETY AND FUTURE PERFORMANCE AFTER MORE MILEAGE. THIS HAS EXISTED SINCE PURCHAS OF VEHICLE IN MAY 2013 AND STILL EXISTS NOW AFTER 11000 MILES.
VEHICLE HAS BEEN LEAKING OIL SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED. (2) FORD DEALERSHIPS HAVE ATTEMPTED REPAIRS MULTIPLE TIMES TO STOP ENGINE OIL LEAK(S), ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. WAS UNDER VEHICLE ON 5/12/13 AND NOTICED THERE IS STILL ENGINE OIL LEAKING FROM AREA AROUND ENGINE/TRANSMISSION. DEFECT ALLOWING ENGINE TO RUN WITHOUT OPTIMAL AMOUNT OF OIL, LEAKING OIL CREATES FUEL FOR POTENTIAL FIRE, USED ENGINE OIL IS KNOWN CARCINOGEN, WHICH IS BEING DEPOSITED WITHIN ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND ALLOWED ACCESS TO PASSENGER CABIN. *TR
WE PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER. FROM THE VERY BEGINNING IT SHIFTED VERY ROUGH AND RATTLED SKIPPING FROM 1ST TO 2ND VERY HARD AND WE HEARD A SOUND LIKE DRAGGING CARDBOARD. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY SAID "IT WAS NORMAL" AND THAT THE CAR HAD TO GET ADJUSTED TO OUR STYLE OF DRIVING. THEY DID COMPUTER CHECK AND NOTHING WRONG. WE THOUGHT THIS WAS RIDICULOUS, BUT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH SAME SOUNDS, SOMETIMES MORE THAN OTHERS. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO 2 DEALERS WITH BOTH SAYING BASICALLY THE SAME THING, THAT FORD MESSED UP WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND IT IS JUST THE WAY IT IS, NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IT IS SAFE. OUR DAUGHTER DOES NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR WHEN IT LURCHES FORWARD OR DOESN'T SHIFT GEARS WHEN SHE IS TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO SPEEDING TRAFFIC. WE WANT SOMETHING DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
EVERY RECALL EVENT FOR MY 2013 FORD FOCUS, I HAVE ENCOUNTERED. AFTER A YEAR AND HALF OF CONTINUED TRIPS TO AND BEING WITHOUT MY CAR FOR SERVICE. THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES STILL NOT RESOLVED ALONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE STEREO DISPLAY GOES BLANK, AT TIMES SHOWS INCORRECT DATE AND CLOCK JUMPS TO DIFFERENT HOURS. THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD WHEN YOU GET TO ABOUT 25 TO 30 MPH OR HESITATES WHEN YOU EXCEL. WHEN YOU PUT IN PARK IT WILL LUNGE FORWARD OR ACT LIKE YOU'VE POPPED THE CLUTCH EVEN WHEN BRAKE IS ON. IT SHUDDERS, HAS BUMP & BANG NOISES, LUNGES, SUSPENSION NOISES. I CAN FEEL BUMPING/THUMPING UNDER MY FEET WHEN TURNING CORNERS. HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE GAS TANK ASSEMBLY AND FUEL SYSTEM GAUGE (THIS PART HAS BEEN FIXED) CONTINUED ISSUES WITH THE DIGITAL PANEL, INTERMITTENT ERRATIC CLUSTER RADIO, CLOCK AND SYNC ISSUES THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CANNOT DUPLICATE. WHEN I HAVE ISSUES WITH THE DIGITAL PANEL, I TAKE A PICTURE. ONCE I TURN VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON IT SOMETIMES CLEARS IT UP. I'VE COMPLAINED ABOUT TIRES NOISES AND RIDE, THEY SAY TIRES ARE FINE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO JUST TRADE IT IN AND THE DEALER SUGGESTED I CONTACT FORD MOTOR TO HAVE THEM BUY IT BACK. I HAVE PLACED A COMPLAINT ON THE FORD WEBSITE, BUT HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BUT HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. DO I HAVE TO RUIN MY CREDIT BY JUST DROPPING MY VEHICLE OFF AND WALKING AWAY FOR THEM TO TAKE BACK. VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOST DRIVETRAIN POWER AND CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP IN THE LEFT-HAND LANE OF A MAJOR SURFACE STREET IN SAN JOSE. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DISPLAYED THE WARNING 'STOP SAFELY NOW". ATTEMPTS TO RESTART OR REBOOT THE CAR FAILED LEAVING US DANGEROUSLY STRANDED IN MODERATE TRAFFIC FOR OVER 20 MINUTES UNTIL A NEARBY RESIDENT HELPED US TO PUSH VEHICLE TO SAFETY. ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ON THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO FUNCTION BUT THE VEHICLE WAS IMMOBILIZED. PUSHING THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT, AS IF THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THE FORD DEALER REPORTED THAT THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS ENGAGED AND COULD NOT BE DISENGAGED. FORD DEALERSHIP REPORTED OVER 30 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES APPEARING ON THE VEHICLE THAT PROVED TO BE MISLEADING. INEXPERIENCE OF SERVICE TEAM WITH ELECTRICAL VEHICLES PROVIDED LOW CONFIDENCE THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD AND REPAIRED THE CAUSE OF THIS FAILURE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY INSTRUCTED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AND CONTROL MODULE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY AGREED TO REFUND OR REPLACEMENT OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
BRAND NEW 2013 AUTOMATIC. APPARENTLY, MY AUTOMATIC HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION TO IMPROVE FUEL EFFICIENCY. AROUND MAY MY VEHICLE STARTED ACTING UP WHEN I WOULD PULL FORWARD OR BACK UP - THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHUDDER CAUSING A DELAY IN ACCELERATION. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE, NO CHANGE. THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT FOR AWHILE TO ALLOW IT TO RESET. AFTER ABOUT ANOTHER FEW HUNDRED MILES THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE- TOOK IT BACK AND THEY PUT IN A NEW CLUTCH. SAME ISSUES - SAME RESPONSE, DRIVE IT FOR AWHILE AND LET IT BREAK IT. TOOK IT BACK - TOLD IT WAS WITHIN STANDARDS AND I WAS TO EXPECT THE SHUDDER!? IT'S BRAND NEW - ACCORDING TO THE SALE REP AND MAINT SUPERVISOR ITS PART OF THE DESIGN, BUT CUSTOMERS AND EVEN FORD SALES AND MAINT WAS NOT TOLD UNTIL COMPLAINTS CAME IN. FORD WILL DO NOTHING BUT TELL ME I CAN TAKE IT FOR ANOTHER OPINION AND PAY FOR IT. NO MATTER, THEY FEEL IT PERFORMS WITHIN THEIR STANDARDS. THE PROBLEM IS I'M PAYING FOR THE CAR AND WHEN I PULL INTO TRAFFIC I EXPECT IT NOT TO PAUSE - THAT IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE ME TO GET HIT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD WILL NOT MAKE THIS RIGHT. *TR

THE PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED WE TRY STARTING THE CAR AGAIN. SECONDS AFTER STARTING THE CAR AGAIN, A FLAME BURST OUT OF THE FRONT HOOD. WE EVACUATED THE VEHICLE. MOMENTS LATER MORE FLAMES APPEARED , FOLLOWED BY THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR BECOMING ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *TR
AFTER AN ACCIDENT, TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME AND THE CAR KEPT STALLING OUT WHILE TRYING TO GIVE IT GAS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY REPAIRED THE BODY WORK AND SAID THAT THE SWITCH FOR THE GAS TO SHUT OFF HAD TO BE RESET. PICKED UP FROM DEALER AND THE CAR KEPT STALLING OUT AND SHAKING WHEN TRYING TO TAKE OFF OR ACCELERATE THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT COULD BE THE CLUTCH IN THE TRANSMISSION. DEALER KEPT FOR A WEEK AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. FORD IS AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCHES IN THE FORD FOCUS. THEY SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED SO FAR HE HAS PUT IN 5 CLUTCHES ON THE 2013 FORD FOCUS. WE PURCHASED THE 2013 FOCUS AT APPLE FORD IN RED LION PA. WE HAD THAT CAR APPROX 1 MONTH AND IT WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE, WE WERE TOLD THE JERKING GRINDING HESITATIONS WERE ALL "NORMAL". AFTER OVER A WEEK IN THE GARAGE IT WAS DETERMINED BY DEALER THEY WOULD SWAP OUT FOR ANOTHER FOCUS SAME YEAR, BUT HAD MORE MILES THAN THE ORIGINAL FOCUS. THE FIRST VIN # WAS [XXX]. I CALLED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY (FORD) COULD NOT SEND A COPY OF THE LETTER THAT WAS MAILED OUT EXPLAINING THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS BECAUSE IT IS DONE BY A "THIRD PARTY" ?? THIS INCLUDES THE INPUT SHAFT SEALS, THE CLUTCH & OR A SOFTWARE CALIBRATION. MY CAR IS PAID OFF IN FULL AND IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I AM HAVING TO WASTE TIME GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH FORD ABOUT THIS. SHORTLY AFTER, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO HESITATE AND SHUDDER WHEN ACCELERATING OR DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, INCLUDING PULLING INTO AND OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-65 MPH) FOR PERIODS OF TIME GREATER THAN 30 MINUTES, THE STEERING BEGINS TO BECOME JERKY AND STICKY. THE VEHICLE STARTS TO WANDER AS IF THE FRONT WHEELS ARE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, MAKING IT NECESSARY TO MAKE MANY VERY SMALL STEERING CORRECTIONS. TOTAL LOSS OF THROTTLE, STALLING IN TRAFFIC, SHUDDERING AND ERRATIC SHIFTING WITH THE FORD POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION. SINCE PURCHASING CAR NEW IN 2013, I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION, INITIAL PROBLEMS WAS A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE MUFFLER WAS DRAGGING THE ROAD, PROBLEMS GOT WORSE AS MILEAGE INCREASED. RETURNED THE CAR TO SEVERAL DEALERS FOR DIAGNOSIS, WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND NO REPAIRS WERE ATTEMPTED. PROBLEM GOT WORSE AND I HAD EXPERIENCED TOTAL LOSS OF THROTTLE IN TRAFFIC ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, CAR STALLED AND JERKED IN TRAFFIC CAUSING NECK TO SNAP BACK. AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED WITH TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS, A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION LETTER CAME FROM FORD DETAILING ISSUES WITH POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION. I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AGAIN, FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD THEY GOT IT THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL THE THRESHOLDS AFTER 6 ATTEMPTS, WHICH WARRANTED REPLACEMENT OF THE CLUTCH PACK AND INTERNAL SEALS, SUPPOSEDLY A FAULTY DESIGN THAT ALLOWED OIL FROM THE GEARBOX TO LEAK INTO THE CLUTCH PACK CAUSING SLIPPAGE, NOISE AND ISSUES. FORD RETURNED THE CAR 5 DAYS LATER, ISSUES WENT AWAY FOR 3 WEEKS OR SO, AND HAVE STARTED TO REAPPEAR IN THE SAME FASHION AS WHEN THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND IS GETTING WORSE EACH DAY, WITH OVER 1000 MILES ON THE CAR SINCE SERVICE. I THEN TURNED ON THE WARNING FLASHERS, AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PROCEEDED AT 15-20 MPH UNTIL I COULD TURN INTO A SAFE AREA ABOUT 1 MILE DOWN. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. WHEN THE DEALER RAN MY VIN# THROUGH THEIR SYSTEM, IT SHOWED THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS VERY PROBLEM. THEY THEN REPAIRED THE CAR AND IT NOW SEEMS TO BE RUNNING OK, ALTHOUGH I DON'T FEEL REAL GOOD ABOUT IT. CAR TRANSMISSION CONSTANTLY SLIPS/LURCHES AND GRINDS. DEALER SAYS THIS IS "NORMAL". CAR HAS BEEN CLOSE TO SEVERAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO TRANSMISSION SLIPPING/LURCHING AT INTERSECTIONS I DO NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH. SUDDENLY AN ERROR MESSAGE POPPED UP "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". THEN THE CAR WAS DISABLED. THE SPEED AUTOMATICALLY REDUCED. THE SPEED DID NOT RESPOND OR INCREASE AT ALL WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY. THEN THE CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, THEN TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THE ERROR MESSAGE "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" POPPED UP AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED FROM 0 TO 30 MPH, THEN IT RAN CONSTANTLY AT 30 MPH. THIS TIME, THE SPEED DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT WAS LIKE THE CAR WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL, WITHOUT YOU BEING ABLE TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL! EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE THE 1ST TIME. THEY REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY. ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE THE 2ND TIME. I EVEN TOOK A PICTURE OF THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD AND SHOWN IT TO THE SERVICE ADVISER. THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN RIGHT AFTER I DROVE OFF THE DEALERSHIP. THEN, I MANAGED TO DRIVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE STILL ON AND WITH THE ISSUE OCCURRING. SERVICE WAS ABLE TO COLLECT SOME KIND OF CODE FROM THAT ERROR MESSAGE, BUT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR, AND TOLD ME THEY WILL CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY. IT HAS BEEN 3 DAYS AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE AT ALL. THIS MORNING, I TURNED ON MY CAR AND DROVE FOR 2 MINUTES AND THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN! AS FOR PROOF, I WAS ABLE TO RECORD A 30 SECOND VIDEO CLIP WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING ON A CONSTANT SPEED OF 30 MPH WITHOUT ME STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM CAN OCCUR RANDOMLY ANYTIME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! NOT SAFE FOR DRIVING! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARD WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING UPHILL. THE VEHICLE ALSO JERKED WHEN SHIFTED FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION POWER WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE LOSS OF ACCELERATION POWER ONLY. THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED; HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED AND THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS OPERATING AT NORMALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,202.
THE CAR SPUTTERS AND RATTLES WHEN LETTING THE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE WHEN IT IS AT A STAND STILL. IT FEELS AS IF IT IS TRYING TO START IN 2ND GEAR. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING INCREASINGLY WORSE. I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WHERE THE CAR WOULDN'T GO PAST 15 MPH. I TURNED IT OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND THE SPEED PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE FIXED. IT STILL SPUTTERS. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ROUGH.
COMPLAINED TO SERVICE WRITER WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN WITH THE STUTTERING PROBLEM WHEN I START TO DRIVE. WAS TOLD THAT IT IS BECAUSE FORD HAD REDESIGNED A MANUAL TRANSMISSION TO MAKE IT AUTOMATIC TO INCREASE THE GAS MILEAGE. WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK IF GOT WORSE. IT HAS AND MUCH WORSE, NOW IT NOT ONLY SHUTTERS BUT IT HAS A KNOCKING SOUND. I NOTICED A BLACK RING AROUND THE AREA WHERE THE TWO PIECES ARE BOLTED TOGETHER. I HAVE TO DRIVE 24 MILES TO WORK EACH DAY ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAVE MAJOR CONCERNS ABOUT BEING STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF ROAD. I WAS TOLD THAT FORD HAD GOT IT'S ACT TOGETHER FINALLY AND DECIDED TO GET THE FOCUS SE. WORST MISTAKE I MADE. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE KIA SOUL LIKE I PLANNED OR THE CHEVY CRUZE. *TR
I AM LEASING THIS CAR AND GOT IT IN MARCH 2013. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES ALREADY AND THE DEALERS, 2 DIFFERENT ONES, KEEP TELLING ME IT IS JUST NORMAL. TRANSMISSION SHUDDER, ROUGH SHIFT, HESITATION, GRINDING NOISE ON ACCELERATION. UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS
VEHICLE HAS LEAKED ENGINE OIL SINCE NEW, WHICH WAS FIRST DISCOVERED AT 500MI. ENGINE OIL CONTAMINATED CLUTCH DISCS IN AUTOMATIC TRANMISSION, WHICH RESULTED IN REPLACEMENT OF REAR MAIN ENGINE SEAL, TRANSMISSION CLUTCHES, ETC. WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO RESOLVE PROBLEM. ATTEMPTED REPAIR TOOK PLACE AT APPROX. 7500 MI. AT 7800 MI, ENGINE OIL IS STILL LEAKING OIL, COVERING THE BOTTOM ON THE ENGINE AND POOLING ON THE UNDER-ENGINE COVER. SUSPECT NEW CLUTCH DISCS ALSO CONTAMINATED, WHICH IS CAUSING JERKY TRANSMISSION ACTION IN DRIVE. *TR
WHEN GOING UP HILLS THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION REFUSES TO SHIFT INSTANTLY AND MAKES LOUD GRINDING NOISE. IT WOULD EVENTUALLY SHIFTS BUT THE SPLIT SECONDS OF NOT SHIFTING CAUSES ME ANXIETY AND IMPLIES A SAFETY ISSUE. I BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE ATTENTION OF FORD OF KIRKLAND'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE FIRST TIME IN APRIL AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS STILL "LEARNING" MY DRIVING HABITS BECAUSE IT IS STILL BREAKING IN. THE SECOND TIME I BROUGHT MY CAR IN WAS IN 12/2013, I WAS TOLD THAT WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND FORD IS TRYING TO COME UP WITH A SOFTWARE FIX. NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THE FIX WILL BE AVAILABLE WHILE DRIVERS LIKE ME ARE SUFFERING. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON FEB 2013 AND IT ONLY DROVE GOOD FOR 2 MONTHS AND THE REMAINING TIME I'VE HAD IT, HAS BEEN ON THE SHOP OVER 4 TIMES FOR THE SAME EXACT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS.
