My vehicle is having the same issues as the recall associated with the 2016 ford focus with the 1 liter 3-cylinder turbo engine with the oil pump tensioner. I am not sure why this recall is not associated with my vehicle.
Transmission control module, transmission clutch
While driving vehicle on highway the Ford Focus started down shifting while accelerating. This caused the car to not be able to reach sufficient speeds on the road and could have caused an accident. With my family in the car I exited the highway and drove the vehicle home, with the car continuously down shifting and not being able to accelerate as designed. The transmission has known problems and model recalls. I brought it to the dealer for repair but the dealer would not honor the recall. I also called Ford customer care and they were of no help in covering this known issue.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 45 MPH and coming to a stop, the driver became aware that the vehicle was losing motive power. The contact stated while the driver was driving from a complete stop, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road, on the gravel. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to FAS Auto Repair, where it was diagnosed and determined that an oil pump failure had caused the engine to fail. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 92,770.
I own a 2015 Ford Focus with 69,071 miles - low mileage. It's driven lightly. A couple of months ago, I was driving when suddenly the power steering went out and was extremely difficult to drive and manuever the vehicle. I went to the local dealership to schedule repairs and their computers were out so I couldn't even make an appt. So, I called Ford Motor Company about the power steering going out suddenly on my vehicle while driving to determine if my 2015 Ford Focus was covered for this repair in their current Ford Focus power steering recalls after finding thousands of cases reported for the exact same thing on 2010 - 2015 Ford Focus vehicles. I discovered that my vehicle is not included in the recalls. This is a very dangerous issue that Ford should take responsibility for the safety of their consumers and families who drive their products. There are 12 or more other active recalls for this vehicle presently - Side door latch replacement #20S15 where the doors can suddenly open while driving and fuel tank deformation and may crack in a crash # 15C11 for my vehicle. I took my vehicle to the local Ford dealership today to have the other 2 recalls completed and diagnose the power steering, only to be quoted $3014 for their VERY COMMON known power steering issue. They also did not complete the recall work when this was requested as a priority, so I am still driving around in this dangerous vehicle. Ford recalled 487,301+ 2015 Ford Fusions cars for this very same power steering issue. The recall # is 15S14. NHTSA Campaign #15V250000. Another power steering recall for 2015 Ford Fusion is #19S26 affecting 116,160+ vehicles NHTSA Campaign # 19V632000. Approximately 300,170 Ford Fusions were made in 2015 - how can only some be covered when this is such a common known issue? $3014 to repair the KNOWN issue is not acceptable and dangerous.
While sitting at an idle my car killed. Tried to restart and it sounded like the starter was spinning. Trailered it to a garage and was told the engine had no compression on any of the cylinders. Garage told me the wet belt most likely snapped and wrecked the engine! Car has approximately 170,000. Heard there was a ongoing law suit for these 1.0L ecoboost engines. Also have researched issues and saw there was a good will they are doing for this issue. 10 years or 150,000 miles and they would replace the engine. Don't understand the 150,000 cause most cars are not even broke in at that mileage. I think ford should have to repair or replace these engines, cause they have admitted the internal wet belt is the issue with so many failing engines at such low mileage!
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at a roundabout at 20 MPH, the "Transmission Overheating - Please Pull Over to a Safe Location" was displayed, and the contact pulled over for 30 minutes for the transmission to cool down. However, after restarting the vehicle and attempting to drive, the contact noticed that the transmission was slipping between 1st and 2nd gear. The contact proceeded to pull over and the vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the dual clutch assembly and the fuel rail pressure sensor were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,007.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and shuddering abnormally. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and was diagnosed with transmission clutch shudder. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,000.
This vehicle stalls while driving due to a faulty purge solenoid inspected by Pep Boys mechanic. There was a recall on the ford focus in 2018 18V735000(recall number) I purchased this vehicle in 2023 with no known recalls. This issue occurred September 2024 I paid for the repair two weeks ago and now the same issue is existing. There were no warning lights displayed when the car stalled while driving. My safety and the safety of my child is at risk being that the vehicle stalls while driving which is could be the cause for accidents and or collisions
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly downshifted with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the clutch assembly and flywheel had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while parked the fault in rear tail light signal illuminated. The contact changed the bulb and upon inspecting the vehicle contact noticed lighting panel was burned and damaged however the failure recurred. The vehicle was not towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed or repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,200.
There was already a recall performed on the vehicle for the purge valve being stuck open and a gas tank deformation. fast forward a few years and now the same issue is happening to the "repaired" parts. What are my options to have this recall correctly repaired?
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate and rolled backward. No warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the clutch and an unknown part needed to be replaced. The dealer only replaced the clutch. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 19N08 (Transmission Clutch Shudder / Transmission Clutch Warranty Extension); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,378.
While driving down the highway the vehicle all of a sudden made a long depleted noise and then the vehicle shifted into 1st gear and wouldn't come go faster then 5 or 10mph. Check engine light came on and had to immediately put hazard lights on and get onto feeder to then drive the vehicle home at a very slow pace. Vehicle no longer shifts into higher gears. Got home and had family member test drive vehicle and vehicle would only go into 1st but with issues. Then tried reverse and the vehicle wouldn't shift into reverse, sounded like it was in neutral, would rev but not shift into Reverse gear. Managed to turn around and parked it back in driveway. Found in glove compartment the last inspection performed on the vehicle on September 24, 2023 which was done by the dealership I bought the car from. On the back of the inspection report it lists 2 recalls for power train issues on clutch shudder and clutch control module. However, both say something about warranty, and when I took the paper to the ford dealership I was told that's not a recall it's an extended warranty and it expired in 2022 for the clutch shudder issue but the module one they would replace for free. I would like to understand about the first one regarding clutch shudder and the warranty part. The ford dealer service tech was very unconcerned about this and pretty much says it's only a 7 year warranty on that issue so it would have needed to happen or be brought in 2022. Basically saying I'm out of luck with my problem. This seems like a very dangerous problem with this car and I would think was an actual recall item not just an extended dealer warranty item. I also had a auto mechanic test drive and look at the vehicle and they also confirmed this was a clutch issue. Can someone explain and verify this information?
I'm writing to seek assistance with transmission problems in our 2012-2016 Ford Focus. Despite visiting a repair shop, we've encountered a roadblock with Ford's expired Manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Programs. Background: The repair shop diagnosed an issue with the Power Shift transmission, a known problem affecting all 2012-2016 Ford Focus models. Ford had two Manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Programs in place (Transmission Control Module and Transmission Clutch Shudder) until 2020. Unfortunately, we purchased the vehicle in 2023, and the previous owners didn't participate in these programs. Current Situation: Ford is refusing to address the issues due to the expired programs, despite the vehicle remaining dangerous to operate. We've contacted Ford headquarters, and they suggested reaching out to the NHTSA for potential assistance in extending the warranty or instructing Ford to fix our vehicle. Request: We kindly request your help in exploring options to resolve this matter. We believe it's essential to ensure the vehicle's safety, even if the Manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Programs have expired. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your response.
FORD Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02 - Transmission Control Module I purchased a 2015 Ford Focus for my son in 2021. I PAID WITH CASH. In June 2024, he moved from GA to UT for a job after he graduated college. 2 months later, his transmission went out with no notice. I paid to get the Focus towed to the Ed Kenley Ford Inc. Ford had a Customer Satisfaction Program that started in 2015. There are 7 supplements to the original issue. I called Ford to get some kind of reimbursement since they would not fix the module even though it was covered until June 30, 2025 (3 weeks ago). Ford says that there is nothing they can do since the date of June 30, 2025 has passed. I feel that this is FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR as my son had to buy a newer vehicle to go to work. Thank you for all you do.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that failure occurred most often after the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light or stop sign and then attempting to accelerate. The contact received notification of Customer Satisfaction Program: 14M02 (Transmission Control Module (TCM). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed. The contact was informed that the clutch had failed. The dealer refused to repair the vehicle, stating that since the check engine warning light was not illuminated, the vehicle would not be repaired. The contact was informed to take the vehicle back to the dealer once the check engine warning light was illuminated. A month later, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,007.
Parts replaced, according to 2019 R/O from Ford Dealer: clutch assembly Parts needed for replacement, according to R/O from Ford Dealer: clutch, clutch forks x2, clutch bearing, clutch hardware, 1 qt of transmission oil Available for inspection, however it is getting diagnosed with possible proceeding of replacement at an independent service provider. I experienced gear slippage, resulting in high rpms and no gaining of speed while driving on an on ramp onto a 65 mph limit freeway, which my vehicle then maxed out at 50 mph. Following this, the transmission did not engage into reverse when shifted from within the car. Yes, I had the work done in 2019 for the 14m02, TCM recall, and the dealer saw that the "clutch assembly" was worn and not performing within the necessary standards. This was covered by my general warranty, not the 14m02 extended warranty. I currently don't have the repair order from the 2019 fix as it's in my car at the independent mechanic, but can be provided. The vehicle will be inspected by an independent service center this week/today. This model has had a known problem of "shuddering" in earlier years, which my personal vehicle does experience from time to time, specifically when stopping and going or going uphill. My engine light did eventually turn on, but with no direct messages, once the vehicle became fully undriveable (not shifting from 1st to 2nd without major kickback and no reverse). Using my personal code reader I received the following DTC codes: P07A5 - Transmission Friction Element "B" Stuck On P287A - Clutch 'B' Stuck Engaged
I bought a brand new Ford Fusion in 2015 at Planet Ford Dallas. Since then, I have had my car maintained regularly at this dealership. However, my car has recently showed symptoms of intermittent loss of transmission. Then, I made an appointment on Aug. 19, 2024 and showed the recall letter to the dealership to request an inspection, but the rep refused to take a look at it, saying there were 20 people ahead of me and said the wait time for fixing TCM (the transmission control module) problem was at least three or four months. On Aug. 20, 2024, I called Ford Customer Relationship Center but could not fix this issue. I am very angry and frustrated because I trust Ford and its dealership will take good care of my car whenever I have my car maintained there. I believe fixing recalls is mandatory, so Planet Ford Dallas should fix it for me voluntarily. Why did they not notify me about this TCM problem and fixed it for me in the first place whenever they serviced my car in the past 9 years? If they had found this problem, I would not have to worry about the possibility of my car breaking down in the middle of the road anytime, not to mention the possibility of a car accident. Ford company should monitor its dealerships whether they fix Ford Recalls and if Ford customers still experience some problems because this is an issue of passenger's safety. Also, Ford company should notify Planet Ford Dallas about its poor performance and poor customer's satisfaction. If all dealerships work like this one, no customer will want to buy any Ford cars any more just like me.
The transmission system, specifically the clutch assembly, failed or malfunctioned. The Ford dealership conducted a diagnostic test and determined that the clutch assembly needed repair. To manage costs, I had the repair performed at AAMCO. Despite this repair, the issue was not resolved, and AAMCO later found metal shavings in the transmission fluid, suggesting internal transmission damage. Yes, the vehicle and its transmission system are available for inspection upon request. The malfunctioning clutch and potential transmission damage pose significant safety risks. A failing clutch can lead to the inability to change gears properly, which can cause the vehicle to stall or lose power unexpectedly while driving. This could result in a loss of control, increasing the risk of an accident, especially in high-traffic situations or on highways. Furthermore, the presence of metal in the transmission fluid suggests that there might be further internal damage that could lead to sudden transmission failure, further endangering the driver, passengers, and other road users. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by two different service centers. Initially, the Ford dealership diagnosed the issue as a stuck clutch and replaced the clutch assembly, but this did not fix the problem. Subsequently, AAMCO inspected the vehicle and identified metal in the transmission fluid, indicating a more severe transmission issue. Both these findings confirm that there is a persistent problem with the vehicle’s transmission system. Yes, the vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership (the manufacturer’s representative), who diagnosed the clutch issue and performed the initial repair. Additionally, the vehicle was inspected by an independent service center (AAMCO), which identified metal in the transmission fluid, indicating internal transmission damage. There has been no inspection by the police or insurance representatives at this time.
The car will not accelerate out of nowhere. When pulling out into traffic it will do a RPM spike but will not gain speed. Has started giving a transmission overheated error. Sometimes the check engine light will come on but not everytime. Have to take side roads and takes longer to get anywhere as I never know if it will accelerate correctly. Waiting to hear from dealer what it is.
The contact called on behalf of her daughter who owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle intermittently failed to start immediately, and several attempts were needed to start the vehicle. While driving at various speeds the vehicle would begin decelerating and then turn off independently. The contact stated that approximately 30 minutes later the vehicle would restart as needed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The transmission control module was replaced. The contact stated that several weeks after the repair, while driving approximately 10 MPH, the vehicle lost power. The check engine, low oil level, and several unknown system warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift as needed. The contact stated that after waiting for a while, the vehicle was restarted and driven as designed. The contact stated that several weeks after the repair was performed, while pulling into a parking lot the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was restarted after waiting for a while. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, the brake seized, and the transmission failed to shift into the intended gear. The vehicle continued to roll. The contact was assisted with moving the vehicle over to the side of the road. After a while, the vehicle was able to restart; however, the contact opted to not drive the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed there was a blown mega fuse #9 causing an open wire that needed to be replaced. The powertrain control module (PCM) had experienced a loss of communication. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer had referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.
UNKNOWN. Power steering assist fault message appeared. After driving the car on the road and stopping to fuel up and turning off the car the error message appeared. The power steering was not working making the steering wheel hard to turn. No warnings or errors prior and as well no error codes found via OBD reader. Safety was put at risk as I was not able to turn the wheel when trying to take off after stopping. Several people have complained online already about this same issue.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed as a failure with the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The contact was informed that the TCM needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The contact's daughter stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. An independent mechanic arrived at the residence and diagnosed the vehicle as a failure with the clutch. The contact was informed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 79,502.
It was mainly the clutch, apparently, but the work order includes a lot more. Yes, it is available for inspection. The car was difficult to control. It was slipping and was having trouble getting into gear. I was driving on a winding mountainess road, parts of it are along a cliff with a reservoir/lake below. Just my usual drive to work here in the Sierras. It go's without saying that others were put at risk since the car was difficult to handle. Yes, the car needs a new clutch and other stuff to the tune of $5,000 up. The car has less than 80,000 miles on it and has had two transmission replacements and a prior clutch replaced a little over a year and a half ago. I was unaware of these prior problems as the car was purchased by me one year and a month ago. The Ford Corporation was part of a class action suit and it was settled a few years ago, unfortunately, I did not own this 2015 Ford Focus at the time. No, the car has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative. But, yes, by a Ford Dealership mechanic here in Sonora, California. The extended warranty for the clutch has expired on this car not that long ago. The extended warranty for the transmission has not expired. I wonder if the problem is the transmission since the transmission light came on but then I would'nt have to pay them anything. The independant garages around here won't work on this car. The first time the car engine light came on the car died. I went to the nearest repair shop and they put in a new battery but that was not the problem. So, the next day I'm driving to work on the winding mountainous road and a light came on, it said transmission overheating.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while accelerating at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated, shuddered, and jerked. The contact stated that the wheels locked up while accelerating. The vehicle failed to shift into gear. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle shut off. There was an abnormal growling sound coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that an unknown sensor needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 74,239.
I was driving in the city and my car did the transmission clutch shudder so bad I almost got t boned I have 120k miles on it and I think ford should have to find a better replacement fix to fix it right I had it already in there for a year just waiting on a part for the transmission now this
Clutch issue. When the automatic transmission shifts between 1st and 2nd gear and then 3rd and 4th gear, the vehicle pauses and revs at very high rpm's. When placing the gear shifter into reverse gear the vehicle, at times, does not go into gear and stays still without reversing. After further research, I found documentation related to the Ford PowerShift Transmission Settlement which my 2015 Ford Focus is included in.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the message "Transmission Overheating" was displayed, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
This car has had repeated issues rough idle after fueling for years. Replacing the oxygen sensor did not resolve the problem. The dealer resetting the car's computer did not resolve the problem. I recently had to replace the canister purge valve (CPV) after the car began stalling after fueling. This resolved the idle issue. I noticed Ford recalled CPVs on Ford Focuses built in Michigan (as mine was) between 2012-2018 (GDI) and before 2017 (GTDI); however, my car was excluded from this recall. Can you please investigate to determine if there are additional vehicles which also received defective parts for which the cost to replace them should be covered? Thank you.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle had the message "Starting Fault System" displayed on the instrument panel. After several attempts, the vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 156,970.
I recently took my car to the dealership for a recall or what they are calling an extended warranty (19N08 Transmission Clutch Shudder- Transmission Clutch Warranty Extension). Unfortunately, my car does have the recall/extended warranty issue. The issue is it is outside the 7 years of 100,000 miles warranty. I have called Ford and opened a case # with them. I am begging you guys to extend this warranty to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I am a single parent and this is my [XXX] son's car. We bought it at 103,000 miles. The older gentleman we bought it from told us about the shuttering, but he did not realize that the shuttering was due to a recall. Please extend this warranty/recall parameters as from my research others are having the same issue still. Thank you for your time!! 1.Clutch shudders and hesitates on acceleration 2. safe driving requires non hesitation when accelerating 3. yes the dealer confirmed 4. Dealership has inspected, recommends replacement of clutch on automatic transmission at 27,000 miles 5. no warnings indicated, car has been regularly serviced by the dealership From what I am reading, this is a common problem and a design flaw per the dealership
