TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT WAS REVERSING FROM A PARKING SPACE AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THE ENGINE EXHIBITED AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN RPMS. THE CONTACT REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION BY APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT HAD EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE OVER A DOZEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR A MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS OR DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,550.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED BEFORE STALLING. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD MOVE FORWARD INDEPENDENTLY AND VICE VERSA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,402 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,800.
ON 8-2-2010 I HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR NOT MOVING WHEN THE GAS WAS PUSHED, THEN IT WOULDN'T GO ON ITS OWN. HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. AFTER THAT, THERE WERE A FEW TIMES IT FELT IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN. BUT NO PROBLEMS OCCURRED. THEN ON 8-4-2011 I HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN AND FORD TOLD ME IT NEEDED ANOTHER THROTTLE BODY REPLACED.
I HAVE A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. IT SURGES FORWARD AT LOW IDLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. I HAVE ABOUT RAN THROUGH STOREFRONTS, MY GARAGE, AND ABOUT HIT PARKED CARS. TODAY I ALMOST RAN OVER A SMALL CHILD AT SOCCER PRACTICE. I HAVE TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT ALL TIMES WHEN I AM GOING SLOW OR STOPPED. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE BODYS ON THE FREESTYLES, BUT THE DEALER DENIES IT. *TR

MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES WHEN MY A/C IS RUNNING AND I'M APPLYING OR RELEASING MY BRAKES - USUALLY WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT OR BACKING UP. *TR
PROBLEM WITH 2005 FORD FREESTYLE - SURGING FORWARD WHEN IDLING AT A STOP SIGN, STOP LIGHT, OR DRIVE THROUGH - EVEN THOUGH FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY IN WARMER WEATHER, ESPECIALLY WITH AIR CONDITIONING RUNNING. HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR-MISSES WITH HITTING OTHER CARS OR GARAGE DOORS. PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY FORD DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST 2010 AT A COST OF $800 - REPLACEMENT OF ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. RESEARCH SHOWS MANY FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS ARE ENCOUNTERING THIS SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALLS ARE ISSUED BY FORD - JUST ADVISEMENT TO REPLACE THE ETB AT THE COST OF THE CONSUMER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNG FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND THEN STALL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED A FILTER IN THE VEHICLE BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE THROTTLE BODY ON OUR 2005 FORD FREESTYLE MUST BE REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING TODAY, 7/31/10, OUR CAR WENT INTO "ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" 8 TIMES, 8 TIMES!, WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND ON A SC/NC STATE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER EACH TIME. WE HAVE BEEN ON A WAITING LIST FOR 2 WEEKS FOR A $600 PART, AND MUST NOW RENT A CAR. I HAVE NOTICED MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE THAT DATE BACK SEVERAL YEARS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM HOPING THAT THE NHTSA WILL FINALLY ENCOURAGE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS. THANKS. *TR
THE CAR HAD BEEN MAKING A LOW GROANING NOISE FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DETECT ANY ISSUES. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH WHEN A LOUD BLAST CAME FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. THE TRANSMISSION LITERALLY EXPLODED AND BLEW A HOLE IN THE HOUSING AND SENT METAL EVERYWHERE. THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND THE BRAKES WERE COMPROMISED BECAUSE THE METAL HAD SEVERED THE BRAKE LINE AS WELL. THE CAR WAS SAFELY BROUGHT TO A STOP AND THEN TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT ENDED UP HAVING A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT FOR NEARLY $4,000. WE HAD BEEN HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH SUDDEN ENGINE SURGES DATING BACK TO WELL BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION INCIDENT AND CONTINUING EVEN TO THIS DAY. IT WAS NOT UNTIL FINDING RECENT INFORMATION THAT I RELATED THESE TWO INCIDENTS TO EACH OTHER. THIS LAST SPRING WE ALSO HAD THE ENGINE MOUNTS REPLACED AS WELL. I RECALL SEEING THAT LISTED IN SEVERAL REPORTS AS WELL. *TR
I HAD MY 92 YR OLD FRIEND IN MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE 500. I AM 41. WE HAD JUST LEFT THE HARDWARE STORE. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. ( I JUST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM KENNY ROSS FORD AS A USED VEHICLE IN NOV. 2009.) THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AS SOON AS THE TRANSMISSION KICKED IN AND IT THREW US BACKWARDS INTO THE PARKING LOT. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE CAR STALLED AND I HAD NO BRAKES. I STOOD ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND FINALLY CAME TO A STOP APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET BACK INTO THE PARKING AREA. MY 92 YEAR OLD FRIEND WAS SHAKEN SO VERY BADLY I FEARED A HEART ATTACK. IF I WERE OLDER AND NOT SO STRONG, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED... GARAGE SAID THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. I CAME HOME AFTER TELLING HIM I FELT AS IF I WERE DRIVING A TOYOTA, AND HE SAID IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND IT WOULD BE $879.00 TO FIX. I HAVEN'T EVEN OWNED IT FOR A YEAR YET. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. NOW I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR (PULLING OUT OF A MALL) APPROACHING THE HIGHWAY, I STOPPED FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, MY CAR SUDDENLY LEAPT FORWARD TOWARD TRAFFIC. THINKING THAT MAYBE I DIDN'T HAVE MY BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED HARD ENOUGH (SCARING ME) I PUSHED MY FOOT HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. BUT THE CAR KEPT LURCHING FORWARD. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC CLEARED & I PROCEEDED ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THEN, THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO MOVE, SO I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL A LITTLE HARDER. THE CAR ACTED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, THEN MOVED FORWARD VERY SLOWLY. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL HARDER, AND AGAIN, THE CAR ACTED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL, THEN FINALLY MOVED FORWARD VERY SLOWLY. TRAFFIC WAS COMING FROM BEHIND SO I KEPT GOING FORWARD. LUCKILY THE FORD DEALERSHIP WAS JUST A COUPLE BLOCKS AWAY (AROUND THE CORNER). SO I DROVE IT VERY CAREFULLY STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AT MOST I WAS GOING ABOUT 30-35 MILES PER HOUR. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE PROBLEM IS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAVE TO ORDER PARTS. LUCKILY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY IS IN EFFECT, SO IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED, EXCEPT FOR A $100. DEDUCTIBLE. (PLUS WE"LL NEED TO PAY CHARGES TO HAVE THE PARTS SHIPPED ASAP). TODAY, MY HUSBAND CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH FORD FREESTYLE'S. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS! MY CAR COULD EASILY HAVE LURCHED OUT INTO HEAVY 40-45 MILE PER HR TRAFFIC, IF I HADN'T HAD FAST REFLEXES! OR IF I HAD PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF THE HIGHER SPEED TRAFFIC I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND! MY CAR HAS ONLY ABOUT 37,000 MILES. I'VE HAD ABOUT FOUR INCIDENCES OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH IT. FIRST, THEY REPLACED MY ALTERNATOR. THEN MY BATTERY. THEN MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANELS & (IN THE DASHBOARD) AIRCONDITIONING PANELS. AT LEAST THEY'RE THE THINGS THAT I KNOW THEY'VE DONE (BECAUSE THE DON'T TELL YOU ALL THE THINGS THEY'VE FIXED OR REPLACED). I DON"T KNOW IF THESE THINGS ARE CONNECTED. ALSO ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET, THESE PARTS HAVE BE HARD TO FIND. *TR
2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE BODY - WHICH APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. WHY NO RECALL FROM FORD? *TR
JUST AFTER PLACING CAR INTO REVERSE, IT STARTED ACCELERATING BACKWARDS AND REQUIRED HIGH PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP IT. THIS IS THE 3RD OR 4TH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME OR 2, I THOUGHT IT WAS ME. EACH TIME I LOOKED DOWN AT MY FOOT TO MAKE SURE I WAS NOT PRESSING BOTH PEDALS AND I WAS NOT (I'M A HIGH-SPEED DRIVING INSTRUCTOR). THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, I APPLIED FULL BRAKE PRESSURE, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE MESSAGE "ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" APPEARED ON THE WARNING CLUSTER. WE'VE STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL IT'S FIXED. MANY MANY PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THROTTLE BODY ISSUES. THIS IS DANGEROUS. *TR
54,000 MILES AUTO THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AT A SHARED COST WITH FORD SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD ONLY BEEN EXPIRED FOR A SHORT TIME. 93,000 MILES PROBLEM HAS RETURNED WORSE THAN EVER - CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS THE SURGING NOW HAPPENS ON EVERY TRIP. SEEMS TO BE MAINLY WHEN GOING INTO REVERSE BUT HAS ALSO HAPPENED JUST STOPPING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. PARKING STRUCTURE WALLS HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT AND A STUDENT WAS ALMOST HIT WHEN THEY WALKED IN FRONT OF MY CAR AND I BRAKED FOR THEM. THE STUDENT THOUGHT I HIT THE GAS WHEN THEY STEPPED IN FRONT OF MY CAR (NOT THE CASE AT ALL) - THE CAR SIMPLY SURGED FORWARD LIKE IT DOES FREQUENTLY. NOW THE CAR HAS BEGUN GOING INTO FAIL SAFE MODE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. CONTACTED FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE AND BEFORE DROPPING CAR OFF ASKED IF PART WAS STILL ON BACKORDER. PART IS STILL ON BACKORDER AT LEAST UNTIL 8/31/2010. HOPING FORD WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY SOON BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT! *TR
WHEN ACTIVATING THE AIR CONDITIONER, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. SPORADICALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEN THE CAR HAD 40,000 MILES ON IT. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS ONLY WHILE IT IS HOT, WENT TO LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE NOTICE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. I T SEEMS TO BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THE CAR DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. FIRST INCIDENT RESULTED IN THE CAR STALLING MULTIPLE TIMES, WHEN STARTED IT WOULD STUTTER, RPMS COULDN'T GET INTO NORMAL RANGE AND WHEN TRYING TO PUT IN GEAR IT WOULD STALL OUT. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START WHILE KEEPING MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. ONCE DRIVING COULD ONLY REACH 40MPH. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT THE FREQUENCY OF PROBLEMS HAS INCREASED. SHORTLY AFTER THAT FIRST INCIDENT IT STARTED SURGING (RPM'S REV WAY UP WHEN PUTTING IT IN TO GEAR) TO THE POINT THAT IT HAPPENS NOW PRACTICALLY EVERY TIME I START THE CAR. AT TIMES, THE SURGE IS SO STRONG THAT EVEN WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY PRESSED ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR STILL MOVES. A HUGE CONCERN OF OURS IS IN PARKING AREAS, IT IS VERY SCARY TO HAVE THE CAR SURGE WITH PEOPLE MOVING IN FRONT OR IN BACK OF THE VEHICLE. I RECENTLY HAD A COLLISION WITH A TREE WHILE BACKING UP. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THE CAR SURGED AFTER I HAD STARTED BACKING UP RESULTING IN THE COLLISION. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY LINKAGE IS THOUGHT TO BE THE ISSUE. MY SISTER HAS A LINCOLN LS THAT WAS RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE - SHE HAD THE PART REPLACED AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED THE SURGING/STALLING DESCRIBED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS MUCH MORE PREVALENT THAN I THOUGHT AND HOPE THAT A RECALL WILL BE ISSUED TO GET THIS CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE BEGAN JERKING BACKWARDS WHILE IN REVERSE TO THE POINT THAT I COULD NOT CONTROL THE DIRECTIONS OR SPEED THE CAR WAS GOING. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACES. TODAY WHILE BACKING OUT OF A SPOT MY CAR JERKED BACK SEVERAL TIMES THEN WOULD NOT SWITCH IN TO DRIVE AND STALLED. AFTER RESTARTING, THE CAR WENT INTO DRIVE AND I PULLED OUT ON TO A BUSY STREET. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 30 MPH. I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER SO I DIDN'T GET HIT AND KILLED AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON BUT I WENT TO AUTO ZONE TO GET IT DIAGNOSED. THE CODES CAME BACK SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT AN INTERNAL MODULE AND THE TAC SWITCH. I TRIED BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT AT AUTO ZONE AND THE CAR WOULD JERK BACKWARDS AND THEN STALL. I HAVE NOT SUCCESSFULLY FOUND ANY INFORMATION ON EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG AND HOW TO FIX IT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING; HOWEVER, WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A THROTTLE BODY KIT REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65000. FAILURE OF THROTTLE BODY ALMOST CAUSED MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS WITHIN 1 DAY (JULY 23, 2010). WAITING TO PULL OUT OF GAS STATION, THE CAR TOOK OFF WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND PUT MYSELF AND MY FAMILY INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC! ON THE SAME DAY, I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND THE CAR AGAIN ACCELERATED BY ITSELF AND I ALMOST HIT THE PARKED CAR BEHIND ME. THE CAR HAS 79,000 MILES. AT ABOUT 36,000 MILES, I HAD SAME PROBLEMS AND THE DEALER FIXED. I RESEARCHED FORUMS ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT SEVERAL OTHER FAMILIES HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!!! *TR
A LITTLE BIT OVER A YEAR AGO HAD SEVERAL INSTANCE OF CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATING WHILE PARKING IN BOTH REVERSE AND FORWARD, CAR RPM'S INCREASE AND LOWER SUDDENLY WITHOUT FOOT BEING ON ACCELERATOR AND HAVE TO HOLD FOOT MORE FRIMLY ON BRAKE TO KEEP FROM HITTING OTHER VEHICLES, PEDESTRIANS OR ANYTHNG ELSE THAT MAY BE CLOSE, CAR THEN ENTERS INTO THE FAIL SAFE MODE WHICH IS RESET ON ENGINE RESTART. CONDITION WENT AWAY BUT IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES. USUALLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING WHILE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE HOT (IN EXCESS OF 90 DEGREES) EVERY TIME THE AIR CONDITIONING HAS BEEN ON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHENEVER THE CONTACT TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER SHE NOTICED THAT THE AIR WAS NOT COMING OUT AS COLD AS THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE AND WOULD NOT COOL THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT WAS SITTING AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED WHEN THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FAILURE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STALL, THE CONTACT WOULD ABRUPTLY APPLY THE BRAKES AND SHIFT INTO PARK TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE DEALER REPLACED SEVERAL WIRES. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN THREE DAYS AFTER REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHERE SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.
