CAR HAS A HISTORY OF LUNGING WHEN IDLING. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS. *TR
BOUGHT CAR AND WITHIN TWO WEEKS IT HAD A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. CAR MAKES A HORRNEDOUS NOISE AND WILL NOT DRIVE FORWARD. PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENED THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE OR SURGE. TOOK TO TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP WHO QUOTE ME $4,250 TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. AT THAT PRICE I ASKED WHAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD COST AND THEY INFORMED THERE ARE NO NEW TRANSMISSIONS AVAILABLE. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT FORD HAD ABANDONED THE FREESTYLE AND ITS CVT TRANSMISSION. I CHECK WIHT JUNKYARDS AND FOUND THE CHEAPEST I COULD FIND A CVT TRANSMISSION WAS AROUND $3,000. CAR HAS BECOME A LAWN ORNAMENT FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING OHTER THAN TO SAY IT IS OUT OFWARRANTLY. TERE ARE CLASS ACTION SUITS BROUGHT OVER THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEEL WELL ON THE VEHICLE WAS CORRODED AND CONTAINED HOLES. AS A RESULT OF THE HOLES, FUMES SEEPED INTO THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO BECOME ILL. THE HOLES ALSO CAUSED THE SEAT BELT TO BECOME WET WHEN IT RAINED AND COLLECT SALT WHEN IT SNOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.

THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER MOVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE IS MAKING A HELICOPTER NOISE FORD DEALER SAID IT WILL NEED A REPLACEMENT FOR 7000 DOLLARS WTF .I CAN SEE THAT THIS SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO THOUSANDS FOR FREESTYLE OWNERS WITH NO RECALL FROM FORD DON'T THEY STAND BY THEIR PRODUCTS ANYMORE .THIS IS A DEFECT FORD SHOULD REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ON THEIR DIME NOT MINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND CONTINUED USE WOULD CAUSE IT TO SEIZE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHERE TO BEGIN.... THE BRAKES ARE SHOT. DON'T WORK AT ALL. DURING THE SUMMER AND FALL THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY GO INTO "FAILSAFE MODE" AND JUST STOP. IT HAS TO BE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO TURN BACK ON AND WILL GENERALLY DO THIS UP TO 8 TIMES BEFORE I JUST SHUT IT OFF AND LEAVE IT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. DURING THESE MONTHS IT WILL ALSO GET A MIND OF IT'S OWN AND JUST LEAP FORWARD. I HAVE TO STOP 2 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND ANY CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I'M COMING TO A STOP, OTHERWISE IT WILL LUNGE FORWARD (EVEN THOUGH I HAVE MY FOOT FIRMLY APPLIED ON THE BRAKE) AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. OH, AND WILL JUMP CURBS, HIT GARAGE DOORS, ALL THAT GOOD STUFF TOO WHEN IT GETS THIS SURGE. THEN, DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THE DOOR LATCH GETS STUCK AND THE CAR DOORS ARE LITERALLY FROZEN OPEN. I CAN'T DRIVE ANYWHERE WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND CAR DOORS THAT WON'T SHUT. OH, AND MY VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SO I CAN'T GET IT FIXED. OH AND DID I MENTION THE BRAKE SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK? LIKE WON'T HOLD BRAKE FLUID, AIR IS ALL IN THE LINES, AND HARDLY NO BRAKES. HAVE YOU EVER TRIED DRIVING WITH NO BRAKES?? IT SUCKS! AND FORGET DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS IN THIS CAR. I DON'T TRUST IT AT ALL!! *JS
I WENT IN TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR TIRE ROTATION AND WE DISCOVERED THAT THE MOTOR CRADLE WAS RUSTING OUT WITH A BIG HOLE IN THE CRADLE FRAME. *TR
WHEN I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE MY CAR LUNGED BACKWARDS AND THEN SHUT OFF AND ON MY DASH BOARD IT READ "FAILED SAFE MODE". THEN 2 WEEKS LATER THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I PULLED OUT ONTO A STREET. I WAS AT A BUSY INTERSECTION AND MY CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN STATING "FAIL SAFETY MODE" AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART MY CAR THE VEHICLE FINALLY STARTED AGAIN. WHEN I GO INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE MY CAR TAKES A FEW SECONDS TO SHIFT AND WILL ALWAYS LUNGE FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS WHILE GOING AROUND 2MPH-5MPH. THIS VEHICLE IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE COST OF A NEW CVT TRANSMISSION WILL RUN ME $5500. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY MADE IT CLEAR TO ME THAT THEY HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, ALTHOUGH THERE IS CURRENTLY A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PENDING AGAINST FORD FOR THIS MATTER. I ALSO CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO I PURCHASED FROM LESS THAN A YEAR AND HALF AGO AND THEY ARE WILLING TO GIVE ME $3000 FOR MY VEHICLE WHICH I PURCHASED FOR $12,000 AND STILL OWE $9,000 FOR. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS WORTH ROUGHLY $5,000 NOW. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT 40-45 AND CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD WHINING SOUND, A COUPLE OF SECOND LATER SPEED STARTED DECREASING AND THE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. HAD IT SENT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC (MEINEKE) WHO EXPLAINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD COMPLETELY GONE OUT AND THAT THE COST OF REPAIR WOULD BE IN THE AMOUNT OF 6498.00 AND THAT WAS PAYING FOR THE TRANSMISSION ( THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN WILL COME IN DUE TO BACK ORDER) AND LABOR. WE HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST FORD FOR THE FAULTY CVTS/ HOWEVER STILL NO RECALL TO FIX THE REPAIR AT FORDS EXPENSE. *TR
2005 FREESTYLE SAT PARKED AT IDLE (IN PARKING LOT) FOR APPROXIMATELY 7 MINUTES. BRAKE PEDAL WAS THEN PRESSED AND GEAR SHIFT PUT INTO "DRIVE". VEHICLE RPM'S IMMEDIATELY WENT UP OUT OF CONTROL WITHOUT FOOT ON ACCELERATOR. VEHICLE QUICKLY LURCHED FORWARD ABOUT 10 FEET BEFORE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED FAR ENOUGH TO CEASE THE MOVEMENT. SPEED ESTIMATED AT 8MPH. RPM'S CONTINUED TO INCREASE AND VEHICLE LURCHED AGAIN AND TRAVELED ABOUT A FOOT BEFORE BRAKE PEDAL WAS FURTHER DEPRESSED ENOUGH TO CEASE MOVEMENT. FOR ABOUT ONE-HALF SECOND AFTER BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, RPMS STAYED HIGH AND THEN VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND STALLED. DASH READOUT SAID, "ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE". FORTUNATELY, NO PERSONS WERE IN FRONT OF VEHICLE DURING INCIDENT. ONE HOUR LATER, SAME DAY, VEHICLE WOULD NOT PROPERLY ACCELERATE DURING PASSING ATTEMPT. UNKNOWN IF THIS ISSUE WAS RELATED. THE NEXT MORNING, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND HASN'T STARTED SINCE. VEHICLE CURRENTLY IN AUTO REPAIR SHOP (WE'VE BEEN AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE AND WILL NOT DRIVE IT UNTIL SITUATION IS RECTIFIED). *TR
CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND THEN STOPPED. ACCELERATOR STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I WAITED FOR TEN MINUTES, TURNED THE ENGINE ON AND LIMPED HOME AT 5 MPH. THIS BREAKDOWN OCCURRED AFTER WORKED WAS PERFORMED AT VARSITY FORD IN ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. DEALER ADVISED THAT THE WORKED PERFORMED (CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPROGRAMMING THE POWERTRAIN TRAIN MODULE) DID NOT WORK. AFTER DETAILED DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS ADVISED THAT I NEEDED A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY MODULE AT MY EXPENSE. WHY SHOULD I BE HELD LIABLE FOR THE REPAIR WHEN FORD HAD ALREADY ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY CALLING IT IN FOR CLEANING. THIS IS CERTAINLY AN ISSUE FOR THE NHTSA TO ACT ON. I THINK THAT THE $882.73 REPAIR BILL SHOULD BE FORD'S BURDEN, NOT MINE. *TR
VEHICLE WOULD SURGE AND LOOSE POWER AT ALL SPEEDS. AT TIMES WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND, THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN WOULD SURGE, THEN WOULD LOSE POWER. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER RECENTLY AS THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY ONLY. NOW IT'S WORSE. I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM THE DEALER AND THE CAR LOST POWER, WRENCH LIGHT ON, AND LEFT ME IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. SHUT THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND CONTINUE BUT WITH MINIMAL POWER. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS GETTING STUCK. I SEE THIS IS HAPPENED TO A LOT OF FREESTYLE OWNER, ESPECIALLY FROM 2005-2007. CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AS IT'S UNPREDICTABLE WHEN SURGES WILL HAPPEN. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
HAD RECALL 12N03 PERFORMED DUE TO SURGING, AFTER REPAIR CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE WHEN COLD. WHEN APPROACHING STOP CAR WOULD NOT WANT TO SLOW DOWN, WOULD PUT GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND TACH WOULD SURGE OVER 2000 RPM'S, DOES THIS ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. CONTINUED TO DRIVE UNTIL CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING, GOT MESSAGE FOR THROTTLE BODY ERROR, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT OVER $600. RECALL REPAIR DONE IN APRIL AND CAR FAILED IN JULY. *TR
CVT TRANSMISSION HAS ISSUES MANY LAWSUITS OVER THIS OUR TRANSMISSION STOP YESTERDAY. READING THE COST OF REPLACE AND THIS LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS PLEASE HELP! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THEY STATED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 122,946.
CAR STALLS DAILY THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVING, DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY STILL STALLS, ANOTHER DEALER CLEANED THE MAF AND CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND CHANGE CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID, STILL STALLING. NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY IT IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH FORD AND VERY DANGEROUS SOME ONE WILL GET KILLED BECAUSE OF IT. MY CVT TRANSMISSION START TO SLIP AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS VEHICLE IS BAD. FORD KNOWS IT AND THEY IT BUT DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. AS WE ARE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY GOING 75 / 80 MILES AN HOUR THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO TO WHAT THEY CALL A SAFE MODE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT GOES DOWN TO 40 MILES AN HOUR. IF YOU ARE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT COULD CREATE A PROBLEM, CRASH AND THUS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
WELL AFTER I RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER FOR CLEANING OF THE THROTTLE BODY, THE FOLLOWING WEEK I BEGAN HEARING A NOISE AS IF I WAS IN AN AIRPLANE WHEN BEFORE THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE I WAS HEADED TO WORK ONE MORNING AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40 MPH AND MY TRUCK STARTED JERKING SO I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND TURNED MY TRUCK OFF. I STARTED BACK UP HEADING STRAIGHT TO FORD SERVICE DEPT. AS I'M DRIVING THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON WHICH I HAD SEEN BUT WHEN I BROUGHT IT UP TO THE SERVICE MAN THE DAY THEY DID THE RECALL, HE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOTHING. YET, THIS PARTICULAR DAY WHEN I GOT TO THEM I JUST LEFT MY TRUCK RUNNING TO MAKE SURE HE SEES AND HEARS WHAT I AM JUST FOR HIM TO TELL ME THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND I NOW NEED A TRANSMISSION OVER 5900 DOLLARS THAT I DIDN'T THINK WAS FAIR. THEN HE GOES ON TELLING ME THAT AFTER THIS RECALL THEY ALWAYS HAVE TROUBLE WITH ACCELERATION AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. SO, I ASKED HIM WHY HE DIDN'T INFORM ME ? HIS RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY ONLY DO WHAT FORD MANUFACTURER TELLS THEM.. SO THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE CONSIDERING THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THIS CVT PROBLEM. *TR

ENGINE WENT IDLE DURING RUSH HR ON I95 CENTER LANE TRAFFIC FLYING BY RPMS SOARING AND IM AT A COAST TRYING TO GET OVER SCARED THE BLEEP OUT OF SEVERAL OTHER DRIVERS. DASH SAYS ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE AND AS I BRAKE THE CAR IS LURCHING AND JERKING. I SHUT IT OFF. I BREATHE IN AND OUT AND THEN START HER BACK UP AND I LIMP ALONG THE SHOULDER TO THE EXIT RAMP. ARRANGE A DAY OFF AND TAKE IT TO FORD (WENT IDLE TWICE ON THE WAY) AND THEY "CLEAN OUT THE DEPOSITS" IN THE THROTTLE BODY FREE AS PART OF A RECALL. SO MONDAY BACK ON THE HIGHWAY IT HAPPENS AGAIN.OMG SO I TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL GUY AND HE REPLACES THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FOR ABOUT $700. CAR IS RUNNING GREAT, ACCELERATION IS BACK SHE FEELS LIKE NEW AND IT MADE ME REALIZE THAT THE THROTTLE HAD BEEN ACTING WEIRD FOR A WHILE - OCCASIONALLY THINGS LIKE STARTING THE CAR AND THAT INITIAL ACCELERATION WHEN PULLING FORWARD OR BACK BUT IT NEVER JUST WENT IDLE LIKE THAT - THAT'S JUST DANGEROUS. I THINK IT IS UNFAIR THAT FORD DID NOT REPLACE THIS PART - I LEFT FORD CONFIDENT THAT THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I TOLD THEM OF MY NEAR MISS ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD FAIL TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THE TECHNICIAN CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,187 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,500.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICED THAT THE REAR CONTROL ARM WAS FRACTURED AND BECAME DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THERE WAS CORROSION OF THE REAR SUB-FRAME, CAUSING IT TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 176,690.
FOR SEVERAL YEARS, MY CAR HAD AN UNEXPECTED LURCHING/LUNGING PROBLEM WHENEVER I WAS PULLING IN & OUT OF PARKING SPACES. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS, SINCE I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY SLAM ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. I NOTICED ON SEVERAL FORUMS THAT THE SUGGESTED FIX WAS TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED, SO ON 9/17/12, I HAD MY REGULAR MECHANIC PERFORM THIS REPAIR. IN DEC 2012, I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM FORD STATING THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE THROTTLE BODY OR REIMBURSE ME IF I HAD ALREADY HAD IT DONE. THIS LETTER WAS APPARENTLY A RESULT OF COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS WITH NHTSA AND A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FILED OVER 2 YEARS AGO. NO SOONER HAD I APPLIED FOR THE REFUND WHEN THE SECOND ISSUE (THAT THE FORUMS ALL DESCRIBE) STARTING OCCURRING - I.E. A LOUD WHINE WHENEVER I HAVE THE CAR IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. THE SOUND GOES AWAY ONCE IN DRIVE, BUT I'VE HAD 3 GARAGES TELL ME THIS IS A SIGN THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. THE REPAIR COSTS ANYWHERE FROM $4,000 TO $7,000. NUMEROUS DOCUMENTATION EXISTS THAT THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAILING AROUND 100,000 MILES AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE PART NO LONGER MAKES IT, SO ONLY REBUILT TRANSMISSIONS CAN BE USED. APPARENTLY FORD HAS THE MARKET CORNERED ON THOSE AND THERE IS A HUGE BACK-ORDER PROBLEM TO EVEN GET THE WORK NONE. ALL THIS INDICATES A PROBLEM ON FORD'S PART, BUT A LACK OF RESPONSE UNTIL ANOTHER CLASS ACTION IS THROWN AT THEM WHICH IS ALREADY IN THE WORKS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVING MY CAR, SINCE IT SEEMS INEVITABLE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS ABOUT TO DIE. I DO NOT WANT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, BUT I DO WANT THE NHTSA TO PUT PRESSURE ON FORD TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM SINCE MOST OF THESE VEHICLES ARE REACHING THE MILEAGE POINT WHERE THE FAILURE IS BOUND TO OCCUR AND AN ACCIDENT WILL HAPPEN. DEALER RECOMMENDED TAKE HOME AND IF/WHEN ERROR MESSAGES APPEAR BRING THE CAR BACK. CAR WAS FINE FOR FEW MILES THEN "CHECK TRANSMISSION" FOLLOWED BY "CHECK ENGINE" AND IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER (USED SCANNER TO CLEAR SO I COULD DRIVE). LEFT AT DEALER FOR THEM TO DRIVE AND GET SOME ANSWERS. WAS TOLD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION PARTS + LABOR AROUND $6500-$7000. THE LOCAL DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT IF IT PERSISTS I WILL NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THAT WILL BE IN ACCESS OF $4,750.00. I BELIEVE AFTER READING THE ONLINE MESSAGES IN EDMUNDS.COM AND READING THAT THIS IS OVER 170,000 FORD FREESTYLES THERE HAS TO BE A DEFINITE PROBLEM HERE. AS FAR AS THE SPEED OF THE CAR, I WAS DOING 35 UNTIL THE ACCELERATION FAILED AND WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES, IT WENT FASTER. WHEN IT GETS BELOW FREEZING, I GET A WRENCH LIGHT AND THEN THERE IS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. A FEW WEEKS AGO I WAS STUCK IN A SNOW STORM WITH THIS PROBLEM. I ENDED UP PURCHASING A CARMD DEVICE AND FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY, BUT THE LOCAL FORD MOTOR COMPANY INSISTS THAT IT IS THE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION AND WANTS TO CHARGE FOR SOMETHING THAT I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS AND LISTINGS ON THE WEB FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER READING FURTHER INTO THE INFORMATION I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS ATTACHED TO A 3.5L SIX CYLINDER ENGINE THAT IS PUSHING MORE HORSEPOWER THAN THE TRANSMISSION CAN HANDLE. THEREFORE THIS IS A DELIBERATE NEGLECT ON THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND SHOULD MAKE APPROPRIATE CORRECTIONS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
