TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE POWER TRAIN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BEFORE SATURDAY, OUR 2005 FREESTYLE HAD SURGED FORWARD A FEW (4-5) TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. ON SATURDAY, THE CVT (TRANSMISSION) DIED. I NOW HAVE TO PAY AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF MONEY ($7000) TO POSSIBLY REPLACE IT (INFORMED THIS IS REMOTE). THE ONGOING RECALL INVESTIGATION ON THE FREESTYLE IS FOR ITS LUNGING FORWARD AND BACKWARD, BUT I'D REQUEST A WIDENING INVESTIGATION ON THE CVT SYSTEM ITSELF. *TR
CHECK WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON AND GOES INTO SAFEMODE AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON ROAD, NO RESPONSE. REPLACED THROTTLE 2-3 YEARS AGO AND NEED TO REPLACE ONCE AGAIN. *TR
ROAD TRIP FROM BC TO ONTARIO, DRIVING THROUGH MOUNTAINS, FIRST OCCURRENCE IN CHASE, BC, AT DAIRY QUEEN CAR LUNGED IN DRIVE THROUGH, HEARD WHINY NOISE FROM ENGINE, GETS WORSE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL. LAST OCCURRENCE ON TRIP, DRIVING BACK INTO HOPE, BC, AFTER CRUISE CONTROL WANT TO SPEED UP A BIT BUT NO POWER, GET OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL AND CAR STALLS WHILE GOING ABOUT 60 KPH!!! MANAGE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO MERGING LANE. HUSBAND CHECKED FLUID LEVELS BUT EVERYTHING IS TOPPED UP. MANAGE TO START UP AGAIN AFTER 3 TRIES AND GET HOME SAFELY. OUR FORD FREESTYLE WILL RANDOMLY SURGE BACKWARD/FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO REVERSE, OR GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, OR GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. THIS HAS CAUSED MY WIFE TO ALMOST HIT SEVERAL CARS. IT WILL ALSO SURGE FORWARD WHEN SITTING AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT. THIS HAS CAUSED US TO HAVE TO SLAM ON OUR BREAKS SEVERAL TIMES TO AVOID A ACCIDENT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE OF FORD'S FAILURE. *TR
MY 2005 LIMITED EDITION FREESTYLE HAS A FEW ISSUES THAT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT. MY THROTTLE IS HAVING MAJOR ISSUES. THE CAR WILL SURGE FORWARD WITH NO WARNING WHEN I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP. IT ALSO HAS CAUSED IT TO HAVE A LOT OF DIFFICULTLY ACCELERATING WHEN IN MOTION AND STARTING THE IGNITION. I'M AFRAID THAT IT WILL SURGE FORWARD AND CAUSE ME TO HIT SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. I'VE READ ONLINE ABOUT PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WHERE IT GETS SO BAD THAT THEY'VE EVEN LOST ALL ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ONE PERSON WHO HIT SOMETHING IN HIS GARAGE SENDING IT FLYING THROUGH THE GARAGE WALL. MY HUSBAND HAS TRIED CLEANING OUT THE THROTTLE WITH NO SUCCESS. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO WITH NO WARRANTY AND THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. *TR
CAR SURGES WHEN AT LOW SPEEDS WITHOUT APPLYING PRESSURE OF GAS, TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING VERY WIERD, KICKS HARD THEN THE NEXT DAY WORKS. *TR
ON A HOT DAY (98 DEGREES) WHEN DRIVING WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON IN MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE IT SURGED AHEAD IN THE MALL PARKING LOT AND I ALMOST HIT SOMEONE WALKING IN FRONT OF THE CAR. THIS VEHICLE HAS ACTED LIKE THIS ON HOT DAYS WHEN THE A/C IS ON AND RUNNING IN THE PAST. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL AND AWARE THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN, IF SOMEONE WAS TO BORROW MY CAR I WOULD BE AFRAID THAT THEY WOULD RUN SOMEONE OVER. IT HAPPENS IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE AND USUALLY ONLY AT SLOW SPEEDS/IDLE SPEED. ITS DANGEROUS IN PARKING LOTS WHEN YOU ARE BOTH PULLING INTO THE PARKING SPOTS YOU HAVE TO BRAKE QUICKLY OR YOU'LL SPEED UP AND HIT A PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF YOU, THEN BACKING OUT OF THE SPOT IT DOES THE SAME THING. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. ONE TIME LAST YEAR ON A LONG DRIVE THROUGH PHILADELPHIA THIS HAPPENED AND THE CAR STALLED AND LOCKED UP AT A GREEN LIGHT. WE JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. *TR
VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD IN PARKING LOT WITH BOTH MY WIFE'S FEET PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. HIT PARKING DIVIDER AND MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO PARK. ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE IN PARK, THEN RESUMED NORMAL IDLE. DASH SERVICE AND ENGINE LIGHTS APPEARED. TAKEN TO FORD GARAGE IMMEDIATELY. DEALERSHIP RESISTING COVERAGE UNDER EXTENDED FORD POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. *TR
FOR A NUMBER OF WEEKS, MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS LUNGED FORWARD WHILE SITTING STILL. AFTER THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD THE DASHBOARD READOUT SAYS: "ENGINE FAILURE MODE". THIS HAPPENED ON FRIDAY JULY 6TH WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND ALMOST LUNGED INTO SPEEDING TRAFFIC, AND MORE RECENTLY ON FRIDAY AUGUST 3RD WHILE AT A STOP SIGN. THIS ISSUE COMES 18 MONTHS AFTER REPLACING THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION AT 50,000 MILES AT THE COST OF MORE THAN $5,000. I WISH TO REPORT THIS ISSUE TO THE NHTSA AS I AM SEEING MANY OTHER REPORTS FOR THIS VERY ISSUE REPORTED AND THINK THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AS THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY RISK. *TR
MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH IT LUNGING FORWARD OR BACKWARD WHEN I AM EITHER STOPPED OR DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MAINLY WHEN IT A HOT DAY AND THE AIR CONDITION IS ON, BUT IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHEN THE AIR CONDITION IS OFF. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND I LOOSE POWER AND THE CAR SAYS FAIL SAFE ENGINE MODE. NOW I HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OFF AND ON FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS WITH THE FAIL SAFE ENGINE MODE. THIS IS JUST THE LATEST OCCURRENCE. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. *TR
WHEN I SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WILL LUNG FORWARD. RECENTLY CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AND HAD HARD TIME STOPPING VEHICLE AND STALLED. LUCKILY DID NOT HIT ANYTHING OR PERSON. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER AND THEY STATED I HAD TROUBLE CODES: PO61 AND P2106. FORD STATED THAT I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND SEEMS TO HAVE STOPPED STALLING AND LUNGING. ALSO HAVE ISSUES WITH UPPER MOTOR MOUNT AND AC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ABNORMALLY AND INDEPENDENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY STALL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS A MECHANIC AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. HE WAS ABLE TO GENERATE FAILURE CODES THAT INDICATED THROTTLE BODY FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 141,000. UPDATED 8/31/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WITH EACH FAILURE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN ACCESSED THROUGH THE OBDII CONNECTOR, P2104 TAC FORCED TO IDLE AND P2111 TAC SYSTEM STUCK OPEN TROUBLE CODES, WERE PRESENTED. WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC WITH AC ON AND CAR LUNGED FORWARD HESITATED AND WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE.THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND THE SECOND TIME WE'VE MADE A COMPLAINT. IN 2005, APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR FORD REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, AS THE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, CAR WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 3-4 YEARS. THEN THE SAME PROBLEMS BEGAN OCCURRING AGAIN. LUNGING AND STALLING IN 2010. IN MAY OF 2012 WE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AGAIN, AS IT HAD GOTTEN SO BAD THE CAR WAS BARELY DRIVABLE. EVERY TEN FEET OR SO IT WOULD STALL AND GO INTO FAIL SAFE MODE. THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED ON MAY 13 2012, AND THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY UNTIL YESTERDAY. OBVIOUSLY THE THROTTLE BODY IS DEFECTIVE, EVEN AFTER FORD SUPPOSEDLY REDESIGNED IT IN 2007. AM I GOING HAVE TO SPEND 600.00 EVERY YEAR TO HAVE THE SAME PART REPLACED BECAUSE FORD WON'T ISSUE A RECALL ON AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
THE ENGINE HAS BEGUN SURGING, PARTICULARLY AT LOW SPEEDS. HAPPENS MOST OFTEN WHEN IT IS VERY HOT OUTSIDE THE A/C IS ON AND THE CAR IS IN REVERSE. THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY SURGE AND I HAVE TO JAM ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACES AND ONCE NOW AT A STOP LIGHT AS I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP. I'VE FOUND MANY REFERENCES TO THIS PROBLEM ONLINE THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS THE PROBLEM AND HAS TO BE CLEANED. FORD NEEDS TO ALERT OWNERS OF THIS ISSUE AND INITIATE A PLAN TO REMEDY IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND THE CAR LUNGED SEVERAL FEET AND I BARELY MISSED HITTING ANOTHER CAR. THIS HAPPENED TO ME YESTERDAY AND ALMOST EVERY DAY AS OF THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. AS WELL AS MANY, MANY TIMES IN THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, SINCE BUYING THE CAR. THIS IS GETTING VERY DANGEROUS AND HARD TO CONTROL. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON TO THIS AND WE ARE GETTING FED UP. IT SEEMS TO DO IT MORE IN THE SUMMER AND IN THE WINTER, IT DOES NOT LIKE TO STAY RUNNING WHEN STARTING IT. THE ISSUE WITH IT NOT STAYING RUNNING IN THE COLD HAS STRANDED ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE BATTERY IS BRAND NEW, SO THAT IS NOT AN ISSUE. *JS
CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD AND REV ONLY WHEN THE AC IS ON. MOSTLY WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING AT A LIGHT OR WAITING FOR MY WIFE TO COME OUT OF A STORE. IF THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE AC IS SITTING ON FOR A WHILE AND YOU PUT IT INTO REVERSE, WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE IT WILL LURCH BACKWARDS AND SOMETIMES STALL OUT. IT IS VERY SCARY AND ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT FROM IT. *TR
A FEW YEARS AGO OUR FREESTYLE STARTED LUNGING WHEN SITTING IDLE, IF YOU DIDN'T KEEP YOU FOOT ON THE BREAK AT A STOP LIGHT ETC, IT WOULD LUNGE INTO THE CAR INFRONT OF YOU. WE SPEND A LOT OF MONEY TRYING TO GET THIS FIXED, BUT IT NEVER WAS 100% RESOLVED. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING UP THIS PAST YEAR, IT WOULD ONLY MOVE 10 MPH WHILE THE RPM WAS VERY HIGH. IF YOU SHUT IT OFF, IT WOULD RESET AFTER AWHILE. TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE ANOTHER TRANSMISSION TO FIX, APPROX 5600 TO 7500 DOLLARS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT LOOKS LIKE 100'S AND 100'S OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME IDENTICAL ISSUES AND FORD WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE LAST STRAW WAS DRIVING AT 60 MPH AND THE TRANSMISSION JUST SHUTS DOWN, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS CAR ISN'T SAFE AND FORD KNOWS THE ISSUE, BECAUSE THEY QUIT MAKING THE CVS TRANSMISSION RIGHT AWAY. SHOULD BE SOME COMPENSATION BECAUSE THIS CAR IS NOW WORTH NOTHING TO ANYONE. *TR
THE VEHICLE 'S ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. AFTER PULLING OFF THE ROAD I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START THE VEHICLE, TO NO AVAIL. I WAITED APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES BEFORE TRYING AGAIN. THE ENGINE STARTED, BUT WOULD NOT GO IN GEAR. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF TRYING TO PUT IT IN GEAR, IT SUDDENLY WORKED! KNOWING I HAD A 250 MILE TRIP BACK HOME, I WAS VERY LEERY ABOUT TAKING A CHANCE WITH IT. FORTUNATELY, I MADE IT. I CONTACTED MY MECHANIC AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY. THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE WAS USED AND IT "THREW" SEVERAL DIFFERENT CODES, RENDERING IT UNDIAGNOSABLE? THE MECHANIC CALLED FORD MOTOR CORP. AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK WITH HIM. AFTER 2 WEEKS OF WAITING, I CALLED FORD MYSELF AND WAS TREATED EXTREMELY RUDE AND ALSO WAS TOLD MY MECHANIC WAS NOT QUALIFIED TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM! TWO MONTHS LATER, I GET A LETTER SAYING THE 'THROTTLE BODY" NEEDED TO BE "CLEANED OUT"...AT THEIR EXPENSE. THIS PROCEDURE WAS DONE AND I AM CONTINUOUSLY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GETS COLD (AROUND 32 DEGREES). THE VEHICLE WILL RUN AFTER WARMING THE ENGINE (SHUTTING IT DOWN/RESTARTING REPEATEDLY) BEFORE IT DECIDES TO FINALLY RUN "NORMAL". I WAS TOLD THIS RESETS THE CODE??? I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD, THEY DO NOT BACK THEIR PRODUCT OR THEIR NAME! FORD HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH THIS CVT TRANSMISSION AND THEY NEED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND WE, THE CONSUMER, NEED HELP WITH THIS ON GOING ISSUE. MOST CAN NOT AFFORD TO HANDLE THIS REPAIR AND THOSE WHO DID, HAD NOT RESOLVED THIS ISSUE AFTER SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! I BELIEVE, WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE (USED) IN 2007, FORD KNEW OF THIS ISSUE, BUT GAVE NO KNOWLEDGE TO ME. I DID ASK ABOUT THIS CVT TRANSMISSION BECAUSE I HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE GREATEST TRANSMISSION EVER...REALLY!!!! *TR
WITH THE A/C ON FULL (VERY HOT DAY OUTSIDE), WHEN STOPPING OR STARTING TO REVERSE, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD TWICE. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP OUT OF A PARKING SPOT VERY SLOWLY AND THE CAR SURGED BACKWARD ABOUT A FOOT, I WAS ABLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE AND STOP IT. THE FAIL SAFE MODE THEN ENGAGED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND SAT FOR A COUPLE MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT AND STARTED BACKING OUT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, THE SURGE BACKWARD AND THE FAILSAFE MODE ENGAGED. I ONCE AGAIN STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND SAT FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON BUT I WAS ABLE TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE ALL RIGHT, AND THE FAILSAFE MODE DID NOT COME BACK ON. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY HOT 100 DEGREES DAY, AND THE A/C WAS ON. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY. I COULD HAVE HIT SOMEONE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE VEHICLE FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER HERE THE THROTTLE WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE EGR VALVE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS STILL NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER AWAITING REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE, WRENCH ICON AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL REDUCTION IN POWER. THE ENGINE RPMS ALSO INCREASED ABNORMALLY AS THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING OVER A TWO YEAR SPAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 90,000.

THE FAIL SAFE MODE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WITH THE SYMBOL OF A WRENCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAD NOT DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 70,000.
1.) WHILE PUTTING CAR IN REVERSE,WITH FOOT ON BRAKE THE CAR LUNGES BACKWARD WITH SIGNIFICANT FORCE & SPEED. 2.) WHILE SITTING WITH 'DRIVE' ENGAGED & FOOT ON BRAKE CAR WILL LUNGE IN THE SAME MANNER. IF A/C OR HEAT IS ON IT IS SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE & MORE DANGEROUS!! THIS HAPPENS VERY UNEXPECTEDLY & SURGES/LUNGES QUITE A DISTANCE BEFORE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO BE STOPPED. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT ITSELF OFF WITH SOME TYPE OF A FAIL SAFE ERROR DISPLAYED. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS MULTIPLE TIMES DAILY ON A DAILY BASIS! I AM SCARED TO DEATH TO BACK OUT OF ANY PARKING SPACE WITH THE FEAR OF HITTING A PEDESTRIAN! AS WELL AS THIS ISSUE, WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT WILL STALL. MEANING THAT YOU MAY BE DRIVING ANYWHERE FROM 20-60MPH & IT HESITATES - NOT ONLY WHEN ACCELERATING, BUT WHEN AT A CONSISTENT SPEED AS WELL. THIS TOO INCREASES WITH HEATING & COOLING ON. PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE FACING RESTAURANT, WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, CAR LUNGED FORWARD. CURBING KEPT ME FROM HITTING PEOPLE WALKING INTO RESTAURANT. A/C COMPRESSOR REPLACED A FEW DAY PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENCE; HOWEVER, CAR HAS BEEN LUNGING SINCE A/C COMPRESSOR WAS REPLACED. THE DAY THE AC COMPRESSOR WAS REPLACED AND I DROVE THE CAR OFF OF THE FORD DEALERSHIP LOT, MY CAR LUNGED PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE AT THE POST OFFICE -- I THOUGHT THE FLOOR MAT HAD GOTTEN CAUGHT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM THE LUNGING HAPPENS BOTH GOING FORWARD AND BACKWARDS. TOOK CAR BACK TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE A/C COMPRESSOR WAS INSTALLED; GENTLEMAN AT "QUICK LUBE" DESK SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FREESTYLE OR AT LEAST HE HAD NEVER WRITTEN UP A SERVICE REPORT FOR THIS PROBLEM. HAVE DISCOVERED ON-LINE NUMEROUS ENTRIES REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FREESTYLE. FEEL FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
AS I PUT MY CAR INTO REVERSE IT LUNGED WITHOUT HAVING MY FOOT ON THE GAS. I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE AND IT LUNGED FORWARD IN THE SAME MANOR. I HAVE A 2005 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 96,987 MILES. THE CAR HAS BEEN HAVING INTERMITTENT LUNGING ISSUES FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. IT IS ONLY ON HOT DAYS WHEN I HAVE THE A/C ON. THE LUNGING HAPPENS WHEN I AM COMPLETELY STOPPED, OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE DRIVE THROUGH AT A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT, THE BANK, ETC. BUT MOST RECENTLY IT HAPPENED AT MY DAUGHTERS SCHOOL PARKING LOT! I ALMOST HIT A CHILD AS SHE WAS CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND I HAD TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BREAK AND THANKFULLY THE CAR STOPPED. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH WORSE OUTCOME. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY; PARTS AND LABOR $880. PICKED UP THE CAR AT 6:45PM, ALL THE SERVICE TECS HAD LEFT FOR THE DAY; SO I PAID THE CASHIER THE $880, GOT IN THE CAR, TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT WERE STILL ON!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! I COULD NOT EVEN LEAVE THE PARKING LOT...THE CAR "BUCKED" THE ENTIRE WAY OUT...I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND LEFT MY CAR AT THE SERVICE LOT AGAIN AND DROPPED OF THE KEYS WITH A NOTE IN THE NIGHT KEY BOX. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP; I KNOW THEY NEVER TEST DROVE THE CAR PRIOR TO THEM DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM NOR DID THEY TEST DRIVE THE CAR AFTER THEY "FIXED" IT. I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY COULD CONSCIOUSLY TELL ME THE CAR WAS FIXED AND CHARGE ME $880.00?!?! WHILE PUTTING THE VEHICLE BOTH INTO DRIVE AND REVERSE IT REVS AND/OR RPMS DROP, AND LUNGES UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKES OR THE MOTOR CUTS OUT AND DISPLAYS ENGINE FAILURE SAFETY. CAR LUNGED FORWARD WHEN IN DRIVE THRU. FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND AIR CONDTIONING WAS RUNNING, CAR SEEMED TO HAVE A SURGE OF POWER CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNG FORWARD AND THEN CAR CUT OFF. THIS HAPPEN BEFORE IN AUGUST OF 2008 AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ON AC UNIT, BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENING. DEALERSHIP AND FORD CONSUMER CARE WAS CONTACTED,BUT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM OR FIX IT. THE PROBLEM HAS ALSO AFFECTED THE TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION NEEDED ONLY A NEW IN PUT SHAFT, BUT FORD FAILED TO TELL CUSTOMERS THAT THEY CLOSED THEIR PLANT THAT MAKES THE PARTS FOR FREESTYLE. NO INPUT SHAFT COULD BE FOUND, SO HAD TO PAY FOR A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $6000.00. AGAIN FORD WAS CONTACTED, COULD ONLY SAY OH WELL. *TT

VEHICLE SURGES WITHOUT PRESSING ACCELERATOR WHILE IDLING AND DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS SUCH AS TAKING OFF FROM STOP SIGNS, PARKING OR BACKING. IT IS WORSE WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS OPERATING. WHILE PARKED AND IDLING WITH A/C ON, RPMS INCREASE (NEARLY DOUBLE) WHEN A/C COOMPRESSOR CLUTCH ENGAGES. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS NOT ON WHILE THE CONDITION EXISTS. ON 6/18/12 AS I WAS SLOWLY BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE I HEARD THE CAR REVVED UP A BIT AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LUNGED BACKWARDS FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. IT'S A GOOD THING I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL SO THE CAR DIDN'T JUST SPEED BACKWARDS ALL THE WAY. *TR ON 6/20/12 AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE GROCERY COMPLEX, TURNING RIGHT INTO THE MAIN ROAD THE CAR SUDDENLY REVVED UP AND STARTED LUNGING FORWARD. IT'S A GOOD THING I HAD MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL AGAIN. ALSO IT'S A GOOD THING THERE WAS ENOUGH DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE ONE IN FRONT. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE HIT THAT CAR BECAUSE THE LUNGE WAS PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. I BROUGHT IT TO FORD UPLAND, CA FOR THE THROTTLE BODY SERVICE. I GAVE THEM A COPY OF THE FORD TSB 09-24-12 BUT IN INSPECTING THE VEHICLE AFTERWARDS, I DO NOT SEE ANY EVIDENCE THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REMOVED AND THEN CLEANED THOROUGHLY. THE TSB SPECIFICALLY STATES TO REMOVE THE TB AND CLEAN IT PROPERLY. I AM GUESSING THAT THEY JUST OPENED UP THE OTHER END AND SPRAYED TB CLEANING COMPOUND AND THAT'S IT. NOW I AM WEARY THAT THE LUNGING MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM HOPING THROUGH THE NHTSA THIS VEHICLE CAN BE RECALLED AND FORD TO ASSUME ALL COSTS OF REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE TB AND ANY OTHER CONNECTED PROBLEMS TO LUNGING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,223 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

EACH TIME I WOULD ADVANCE IN LINE THE CAR WOULD SURGE AND I HAD TO QUICKLY APPLY THE BRAKE. ALSO HAVE NOTICED SLIGHT SURGING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. WHEN I PUT CAR IN REVERSE, DRIVE, OR WHEN CAR IS SITTING IDLE THERE IS A SUDDEN ABRUPT THROTTLE IN THE TRANSMISSION GAS. THE ACCELERATION IS SO ABRUPT THAT IT CAUSES THE CAR TO MOVE WITH FORCE WITHOUT HAVING TO PRESS THE GAS. THERE WERE A FEW INCIDENCES WHERE I ALMOST RAMMED THE OBJECTS IN FRONT AND BEHIND ME, FROM THE SUDDEN THROTTLES/ACCELERATION. IVE NOTICED THAT IF IM SITTING BEHIND THE WHEEL AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BREAK AND IF I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. WE HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES WITH THE CAR LUNGING BUT TODAY, JUNE 18,2012 WAS THE WORST INCIDENT. I WAS BACKING OUT IN A PARKING LOT AND THE CAR LUNGED SO BAD I HAD TROUBLES STOPPING IT. I THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE WHEN IT STOPPED TO TRY BACKING OUT AGAIN AND IT LUNGED IN FORWARD SO HARD I ALMOST COULD NOT GET IT STOPPED AND ABOUT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP INCORRECTLY DIAGNOSED AND CHARGED ME A REPAIR FOR CLEANING THE SENSOR - AND REFUSED TO REFUND ME MY DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS NOT FIXED. I DID MY OWN RESEARCH TO LEARN IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THEY WOULD APPLY THE CREDIT TOWARDS REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY....BUT NOT ALL THE CHARGES. THEY WERE HORRIBLE TO DEAL WITH IN CUSTOMER SERVICE AFTER COMPLETELY FAILING TO FIX MY CAR AND CHARGING ME ALMOST $500. *TR

THE TRANSMISSION SHOP INFORMED ME OF SOME PROBLEMS FORD WAS HAVING WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. I LOOKED IT UP ON LINE AND SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS. I CLEANED IT AND IT SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, IT STARTED THE LUNGING AGAIN. THIS MORNING, THE CAR SHUTTERED AND STOPPED AND SEVERAL LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP, WRENCH, MOTOR. THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE, IT WOULDN'T EVEN REV UP. IT STRANDED MY WIFE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CAME TO MEET HER AND HAD IT TOWED TO OUR HOUSE. I CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AGAIN. WHEN I GOT IN TO TRY IT, ALL THE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER THERE BUT IT STILL LUNGES. VERY AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE IT AGAIN WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING STRANDED.
THE MIDDLE BENCH SEATS CENTER SEAT BELT RETRACTED IN WHILE THE SEAT WAS FOLDED DOWN, LOCKED, AND WON'T ALLOW THE SEAT TO COME BACK UP. THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SEAT BACK IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION WAS TO UNBOLTED THE SEATBELT, LET THE LOSE END RETRACT INTO THE MECHANISM UNTIL IT RELEASED ALLOWING THE END TO BE BOLTED BACK AGAIN. I'M ON THE THIRD TIME OF UNBOLTED AND BOLTING A LOUSILY (IN MY OPINION) DESIGNED SEATBELT SYSTEM. *TR
