FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME MINOR SURGING WHEN CAR WAS PUT INTO REVERSE BUT THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN BAD GAS OR NEEDED A NEW FUEL OR AIR FILTER. FIRST MAJOR INCIDENT WAS IN AUGUST WHEN I STARTED MY CAR AND PUT IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE. BEFORE I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARDS AND THEN STALLED SUDDENLY. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 TIMES WHILE I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT BEFORE THE CAR FINALLY BEGAN TO WORK PROPERLY AND I COULD DRIVE IT HOME AGAIN. BOTH WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WERE ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THE FAILURE APPEARED TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY WHENEVER THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THERE WAS CURRENTLY AN OPEN INVESTIGATION PERTAINING TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
2006 FORD FREESTYLE STRONGLY SURGED/LUNGED A DISTANCE OF 5 FEET FORWARD FROM STOP IMMEDIATELY AFTER PUTTING VEHICLE IN GEAR AND WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKES. IF A PEDESTRIAN OR OTHER VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN FRONT OF THE CAR, WE WOULD HAVE HIT THE PEDESTRIAN OR VEHICLE. THE SAME HAS HAPPENED COUNTLESS TIMES IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE. FORD DEALER IS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE SPECIFIC CORRECTIVE ACTION NOR HAS FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUED A RECALL DESPITE THOUSANDS OF REPORTS ON THE INTERNET OF THIS PROBLEM AND POTENTIAL DANGER AND INJURY. *TR
THE CAR WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHEN I WOULD TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE BEFORE I COULD GET MY FOOT TO THE GAS PEDAL. THEN STARTED TO LUNGE AT LOW SPEEDS IN TRAFFIC...NOW IT WILL LOSE POWER TO THE TRANSMISSION AND I WILL HAVE TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN START IT AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE CITY AND ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN TRAVELING 65MPH IN TRAFFIC. *TR
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED SURGING FORWARD AND ALSO SURGING IN REVERSE AT AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK AND FROM REVERSE. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THESE SURGES WITH THE BRAKE AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS. THERE IS ONLY 34000 MILES (2006 FORD FREESTYLE) AND HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO A DEALER YET , AS I HAVE PARKED IT AT HOME. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE SEEN THAT A NHTSA INVESTIGATION #PE11018 IS PENDING. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS ALSO AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS TO BE DONE WITH THIS. *TR
CAR LOSES ACCELERATION POWER SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING. CAR SURGES FORWARD AND STALLS BEFORE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 3RD, 2011. ACCELERATION SEEMED "OFF" BUT SINCE WE HAD BEEN DRIVING A MINIVAN, WE AND THE DEALER PUT IT OFF AS MORE "GET UP AND GO." PROBLEM PERSISTED WITH EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND WE BECAME CONCERNED. WEDNESDAY AUGUST 10TH, AS WE PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, ENGINE REVVED AND CAR SURGED FORWARD VERY FORCEFULLY, ALMOST MAKING US HIT THE CAR IN THE SPOT AHEAD OF US. NO FEET OR OTHER OBJECTS CAME INTO CONTACT WITH EITHER PEDAL AT TIME OF INCIDENT. MY 3 CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING TO US. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND WILL NOT BE DRIVEN OFF THE LOT UNTIL LOAN IS FORGIVEN ON ACCOUNT OF US BEING SOLD A FAULTY AND UNSAFE VEHICLE. ON THE WAY TO REPAIR SHOP, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, ENTIRE CAR SHOOK, ENGINE ACCELERATED WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE ON EITHER PEDAL. *TR
CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITH FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, THIS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE. THIS LUNGING STOPPED WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN. *TT
THE CAR LUNGES. EXAMPLE: PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND ALMOST HITTING A PARKED CAR, SLOW DOWN TO TO LET SOMEONE CROSS IN FRONT OF YOU IN A PARKING LOT AND THE CAR LUNGES ALMOST HITTING THEM, IN REVERSE OR DRIVE, MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. *TR
HEARING A THUD NOISE AND THEN IT STARTED A SUDDEN SURGE FORWARD BY ITSELF WHILE I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. TODAY AS I TURNED INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND STALLED WHEN I PRESSED DOWN ON BRAKE. IT WOULD THEN STALL EVERYTIME THE CAR WAS PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. VEHICLE HAS SINCE BEEN TOWED TO KORNER FORD 805 W. GENESEE ST, SYRACUSE NY. 13204. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE FINAL VERDICT WILL BE BUT HAVING READ SOME OF THE DISCUSSIONS ON-LINE, IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS.
THE CAR OFTEN LUNGS, REVS UP, WITHOUT WARNING OR HAVING YOUR FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING MORE CONSISTANT. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE AC IS ON OR NOT. *TR
IN HOT WEATHER, THE CAR WILL REV LIKE THE GAS PEDAL IS BEING PRESSED, IN COLD WEATHER, PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT GIVE THE CAR GAS. THE DASH LIGHT AND ODB READER BOTH SAY THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. IN HOT WEATHER, IT HAS CAUSED TWO MINOR BUMPS (NO DAMAGE). IN A FEW WEEKS, I AM GOING TO BE AFRAID TO PICK THE KIDS UP AT SCHOOL FOR FEAR OF LUNGING. *TR
RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. AFTER TWO WEEKS THIS CAR LAUNCHES FOWARD WHILE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. ALMOST HIT CAR INFRONT OF ME. IT DID IT LIKE 3 TIMES BACK TO BACK. CAR IS ABOUT 90,000 MILES. *TT
2006 FORD FREESTYLE "LURCHES" AT LOW SPEEDS OR WHEN SITTING STILL; INTO REVERSE OR FORWARD GEARS; ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS HOTTEST OUT. EXAMPLE: SITTING IN LINE TO PICK UP OUR CHILDREN (CARPOOL LANE) AT THE SCHOOL; VEHICLE IN PARK. ONCE YOU MOVE THE TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE, WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE WILL REV (RUN HIGHER) AND THE VEHICLE WILL TRY TO MOVE, THERBY CAUSING IT TO 'LURCH' OR JUMP FOWARD. IT IS NOT A CONSISTENT THING, HOWEVER IT DOES SEEM TO HAPPEN THE MOST WHEN THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ARE HOT. ALSO HAPPENS WHEN SWITCHING FROM PARK TO REVERSE. OFTEN, IT WILL CAUSE THE 'WRENCH' ICON ON THE DASHBOARD TO TURN ON. PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK THEN TURNING IT OFF; AND TURNING IT BACK ON SEEMS TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, TEMPORARILY. HOWEVER, IT DOES HAAPPEN 3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK. *TT
MY FORD FREESTYLE LUNGES AT VARIOUS POINTS ON MY ROUTE. I NOTICE IT THE MOST WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. FOR INSTANCE, AT TIMES WHEN I AM BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, MY CAR WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE ALSO BEEN PULLING UP BEHIND TRAFFIC, WITH MY FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, AND THE CAR HAS LUNGED FORWARD. I JUST TOOK MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC. THEY HAVE CLEANED THE THROTTLE PLATE. THE CAR NOW DOWNSHIFTS RAPIDLY WHEN MY CAR IS NEARLY STOPPED, LIKE WHEN I AM STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT. THE RPM'S STAY RIGHT AT 1000 UNTIL I AM 10-20 FEET FROM THE STOPPING POINT, THEN THE CAR SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTS, CAUSING THE CAR TO BOW. THIS IS A DAILY OCCURRENCE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. MONTHS BEFORE I WENT TO 2 FORD DEALERS ABOUT A PROBLEM OF THE CAR SURGING AT STOP LIGHTS AND ALSO WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AT STOP SIGNS. THE THIRD DEALER IN AUGUST THAT I HAD WENT TO STATED THE THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED, MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED IN APRIL OF 2011. THE CAR HAD JUST TURNED 60,000 MILES. THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER THE WARRANTY. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SURGING PROBLEM BUT THIS CAR DEALER SAID IT DID NOT FIT MY VIN NUMBER. I WANT TO PUT ON THE RECORD THAT MY CAR AND VIN FIT THE RECALL AND COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE FIRST TWO DEALERS IN THE JACKSONVILLE AREA IGNORED THE MATTER. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE AND I HAVE BEEN FAITHFULLY RIDING IN THEM FOR YEARS. I HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS TO BE ADAMANT AND TO HAVE THEIR VEHICLE CHECKED FOR THE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AS MAYBE A SOLUTION FOR THEIR CAR SURGING AT STOP SIGNS . I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE AMERICAN FORD DEALERSHIP. I HOPE NO ONE HAS THE CLOSE CALLS OF HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THEM DUE TO THIS CAR SURGING FORWARD PROBLEM AS I HAVE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND WHEN EVER I DRIVE IT, IT ACCELERATES WHEN YOUR STOPPED AT STOP SIGNS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS,COASTING THROUGH PARKING LOTS, ETC. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHILE WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BEFORE I HAD TIME TO STOP. THIS HAS BECOME VERY DANGEROUS. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER WITH NO RESULTS. I CALLED THE FORD MFG. AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING WAS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I HAVE ASK SEVERAL OWNERS OF THE FREESTYLE ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THEY WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THE HIGH COST OF TRYING TO FIX IT. I HAVE WENT TO SEVERAL REPAIR SHOPS WITH NO GUARANTEES. THE FORD DEALER I TOOK IT TO CHARGED ME $140.00 THEN TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE SOMETHING THE FORD MOTOR CO. SHOULD BE RECALLING. THANK YOU. *KB
I WAS BACKING MY VEHICLE OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED AND A SMALL WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. TWO DAYS LATER, I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING FORWARD, EVEN THOUGH I WAS STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. LATER THAT DAY, IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE PARKING IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE CAR LURCHED WHILE IN BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE. THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL DAYS OF EXTREMELY HOT, HUMID WEATHER DURING WHICH I HAD BEEN USING THE AIR CONDITIONING IN THE CAR QUITE FREQUENTLY. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON DURING ALL INCIDENTS. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCUR AGAIN AS I HAVE NOT USED THE AIR CONDITIONER SINCE THE LAST INCIDENT.

I OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND HAVE BEGUN TO NOTICE A SURGING/LUNGING OF THE VEHICLE WHILE THE A/C IS RUNNING. I'VE NOTICED THIS LUNGING MORE WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR SOME TIME AND I AM DRIVING AND/OR REVERSING AT SLOW SPEEDS, LIKE IN A PARKING LOT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE RPMS GO UP AND THE CAR SURGES EVEN WITH THE BRAKES BEING APPLIED. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY IN FREESTYLES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DOING THIS CONSISTENTLY SINCE THE A/C HAS BEEN NEEDED. *KB
VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD IN LOW IDLE OR WHEN STOPPED. WILL HAPPEN ALSO IN REVERSE. SEEMS WORSE ON HOT DAYS OR WITH A/C RUNNING. SERVICE "WRENCH" LIGHT WILL COME ON AND CAR WILL ALMOST STOP RUNNING AND HAS STOPPED ON SOME OCCASIONS. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD MAINTAIN THAT SPEED DESPITE THE BRAKES BEING DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WOULD COAST TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,600. UPDATED 10/12/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE REMOVED HIS FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE INCREASED IN RPM'S. THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO APPLY EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO STAY AT ITS INCREASED RPM'S. THE UPDATED 10/24/11
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE AND AT A STOPPED POSITION, SOMETIMES, WILL TRY TO LUNG FORWARD OR BACKWARD, EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE IS ENGAGED AND MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE GAS. WILL DO THE SAME WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT AND RELEASE THE BRAKE THE CAR WILL LUNG FORWARD. HAVE CONTACTED FORD WITH THIS COMPLAINT AND EVEN RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER. AFTER CONTACTING THEM SEVERAL TIMES CONCERNING THE MATTER, I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM FORD.
VEHICLE WILL SURGE OR LUNGE WHEN TRYING TO PARK VEHICLE OR YOU ARE MOVING SLOWLY (NOT ACCELERATING) - PERHAPS WHEN YOU ARE JUST USING THE IDLING POWER OF THE ENGINE TO MOVE. YOUR FOOT IS OFTEN OVER THE BRAKE, OR MAYBE EVEN BRAKING SLIGHTLY, USING THE VEHICLE'S OWN POWER AT IDLE TO JUST MOVE SLOWLY OR SLIGHTLY INTO A PARKING SPOT OR COME TO A STOP. THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS, AS YOUR FOOT IS TYPICALLY ALREADY OVER THE BRAKE AND YOU CAN REACT QUICKLY ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR. IT STARTED DOING IT 2 OR 3 YEARS AGO, BUT JUST OCCASIONALLY, SO IT WASN'T A BIG CONCERN. BUT IT HAS BECOME STEADILY MORE COMMON, TO THE POINT THAT IT IS HAPPENING WEEKLY OR SOMETIMES MORE OFTEN - EVERY 2 OR 3 DAYS. THE ENGINE RPM SEEMS TO INCREASE FOR JUST A SECOND, AND THEN SUBSIDE. IT IS NOT CLEAR TO ME IF THE AIR CONDITIONING HAS ANY IMPACT, AS OTHERS HAVE SAID. BUT THE CAR RUNS FINE AND NORMALLY OTHERWISE. WE RECENTLY HAD A REPAIR DONE TO REPLACE AN EGR TUBE, WHICH WAS CAUSING ACCELERATION TO BE UNCONTROLLED, WHICH WAS AT ALL SPEEDS, AND WAS UNRELATED TO THIS SURGE OR LUNGE CONDITION. HOWEVER, WE HOPED THAT IT WOULD IMPROVE OR CORRECT THE LUNGE OR SURGE, BUT IT HASN'T. THE LUNGE OR SURGE DOES NOT OCCUR WHEN YOU ARE TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, ONLY WHEN YOU ARE ALREADY BRAKING SLIGHTLY AND LETTING THE IDLE SPEED OF THE ENGINE CREEP THE CAR ALONG. IT HAPPENS IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE AND IS NOTICED WHEN PARKING OR WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO PARK CLOSE TO SOMETHING, SO YOU ARE CREEPING ALONG WITH JUST IDLE SPEED INTO A PARKING POSITION. WE HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER REPAIRS PERFORMED, AS IT DIDN'T HAPPEN OFTEN ENOUGH TO DUPLICATE FOR THE DEALER, BUT IT IS MORE OFTEN NOW THAT PERHAPS IT COULD BE DUPLICATED WITH SOME ATTEMPTS AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS. I KNOW THAT IT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED, AND IT SEEMS TO ONLY AFFECT CVT TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED FREESTYLES AND MAY BE A FUNCTION OF THE TRANSMISSION THAT CAUSES IT. *TR
CAR LURCHED/LUNGED FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. HAS SINCE HAPPENED WHEN AT A STOP WITH CAR IN GEAR. ON ONE OCCASION, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, CAR SPUTTERED, AND THEN DIED-DID THIS TWICE IN THE SAME INCIDENCE.
WITH THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, EITHER FORWARD OR REVERSE, AND WITH A FOOT ON THE BREAK AT IDLE RPM THE ENGINE SURGES CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH. CONSEQUENTLY, THE VEHICLE WILL EITHER STALL OR THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE TO OVER 30MPH WHILE DRIVING THE RPM'S UP WELL PAST NORMAL FOR THAT RATE OF SPEED. THIS IS ALSO THE CASE WHILE AT IDLE SPEED (NO FOOT ON BREAK...JUST ENGINE IN GEAR AND AT IDLE...AS IF PULLING INTO OR OUT OF A PARKING SPACE). THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING, YET INTERMITTENT, FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR THOUGH NOW IT'S A MULTIPLE-DAILY OCCURENCE.
AT STARTUP WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARS THE ENGINE RACES AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES IN REVERSE OR FORWARD DEPENDING WHICH GEAR IT IS IN. SINCE I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BREAK WHILE PUTTING IT INTO GEAR I HAVEN'T HAD AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE HAD VERY LITTLE POWER. AFTER I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF , SAT AWHILE AND TURNED THE ENGINE ON THE SERVICE LIGHT DID NO COME ON UNTIL THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAVE HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHERS ,SO, CONSEQUENTLY, I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
WHEN PARALLEL PARKING, THE CAR SURGED BACKWARD AND I HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKE TO PREVENT IT FROM CRASHING INTO THE CAR BEHIND ME. I THEN BEGAN TO PULL FORWARD AND IT ONCE AGAIN LUNGED, THIS TIME I WAS QUICKER ON THE BRAKE AND NOTED THAT THE RPMS SHOT UP MOMENTARILY BEFORE IT SETTLED DOWN AGAIN. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR, ALWAYS AT LOW SPEEDS, MOST OFTEN WHEN IN REVERSE. IT HAS OCCURRED A FEW TIMES WHEN PULLING FORWARD INTO OUR GARAGE. I AM AFRAID TO PARK NEAR OTHER CARS WARY THAT IT WILL CAUSE A COLLISION. *TR

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE - THE TRACTION CONTROL AND WRENCH LIGHT COME ON, THE ENGINE REVS, RPMS GO UP, CAR DECELERATES AND WON'T GO OVER 40 MPH. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT GOES OFF, WRENCH LIGHT STAYS ON. HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO STOP AND RESTART THE CAR - WRENCH LIGHT GOES OFF. HAPPENED 5 TIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING OVER THE MOUNTAIN ON I-40 FROM TENNESSEE TO NORTH CAROLINA. NOT A LOT OF ROOM TO BE STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PUTS EVERYONE IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAVE BEEN LIVING WITH THIS FOR OVER 2 YEARS. HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS TIME FOR FORD TO RECALL THE CAR AND FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
ON 7/31/2011, VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WITH A/C RUNNING. UPON PUTTING INTO REVERSE, VEHICLE LUNGED BACKWARDS, APPROXIMATELY 10 FT., WHILE BRAKE WAS STILL DEPRESSED. PUSHING HARD ON BRAKE STOPPED THE VEHICLE'S MOVEMENT AND THE ENGINE STALLED. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND APPROXIMATELY 87 DEGREES. OVER SEVERAL DAYS LEADING UP TO 7/31/2011, VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY WOULD ACCELERATE ITSELF WHEN AT SLOW FORWARD SPEED (LESS THAN 15 MPH) WITH BRAKE DEPRESSED. TACHOMETER CONFIRMED ACCELERATION (APPROX. 1700 RPM, NORMAL FOR VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 1000 RPM) WHICH COULD BE STOPPED BY PRESSING HARD ON BRAKE. AFTER DEPRESSING BRAKE AND VEHICLE COMING TO A STOP, NORMAL RPM WOULD RESUME. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND APPROXIMATELY 95 TO 100 DEGREES. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MAINLY AT LOW SPEEDS IN PARKING LOTS. IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM REPORTED BY OTHER FREESTYLE OWNERS UNDER INVESTIGATION # PE11018.
THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD WHEN AT LOW SPEED AND ALSO WHILE BACKING UP WITHOUT DRIVER ASSISTING. THIS SUDDEN ACCELARATION IS UNPREDICTABLE. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A DAY AGO AND NOW I'M STUCK WITH IT. EVERY TIME I AM BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING AREA IT ACCELERATES SUDDENLY AND I HAVE TO MAKE SURE MY FOOT IS ON THE BREAK TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE IT HITS SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN I PUT THE CAR ON DRIVE AFTER BACKING UP. IT WILL LURCH FORWARD ON ITS OWN.

I WAS EXTREMELY CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR BEHIND ME. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTRAORDINARILY FRIGHTENING AND WITH VERY LITTLE RESEARCH I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT IT IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING INTO A DRIVEWAY, MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE, SUDDENLY REVVED AND LURCHED FORWARD. I HAD TO COMPRESS THE BRAKES HARD TO STOP THE CAR FROM HITTING ANOTHER CAR. LATER THAT DAY, I WAS IN A DRIVE THRU (STOPPED) AND THE CAR REVVED UP AND LURCHED FORWARD AGAIN. BOTH TIMES THE AC WAS ON FULL BLAST AND THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS OVER 100. AFTER TAKING IT INTO FORD TODAY, THEY FOUND NO CODES BUT ASSUME IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY. ALTHOUGH I HAVE A OF THE LINE FORD WARRANTY, IT DOESN'T INCLUDE THIS PART. THE PART ALONE WAS ALMOST 600 DOLLARS. SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY NEAR MISSES WITH THE FORD FREESTYLES HAVING THE SAME MECHANICAL PROBLEM, FORD SHOULD BE CONCERNED. FIRST SIGN WAS WHEN LEAVING A MALL PARKING SPACE; PLACED CAR INTO REVERSE TO BACK UP, MOTOR SURGED AND CAR LEAPED BACKWARDS UNEXPECTEDLY NEARLY STRIKING A PASSING CAR AND PEDESTRIANS. PUT TRANSMISSION INTO'D' TO PULL BACK INTO SPACE AND TRANSMISSION DASH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE CAR DIED. VARIOUS ITERATIONS OF RESTARTING THE ENGINE, PUTTING THE CAR IN GEAR AND THEN EITHER SURGING UNDER FULL POWER OR DYING UNTIL WE GOT TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE TO SEE IF THEY COULD READ ANY CODES FOR THE PROBLEM. THE SHOP WAS VERY NICE BUT UNABLE TO DETERMINE ANYTHING CONCLUSIVE SO WE LIMPED ALONG TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE WE LEARNED THE THROTTLEBODY HAD FAILED. *TR
THE ENGINE SURGES ALL THE TIME, AND IF THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT FIRMLY STEPPED ON, THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD 6 TO 12 INCHES. THIS WEEK THE ENGINE SURGED TWICE WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THEN ONCE AGAIN AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, THEN THE ENGINE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. FORD DIAGNOSED IT AS THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDING REPLACEMENT, BUT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WILL COST $805 TO REPLACE IT. TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF FORD FREESTYLE ENGINE REVVING WITHOUT THE DRIVER'S FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. ON 7/17/11 CAR LURCHED FORWARD AFTER ENGINE REVVED AS WE WERE PULLING INTO A RESTAURANT DRIVE THROUGH. ALMOST REAR ENDED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. ON 7/23/11 CAR LURCHED BACKWARD AFTER ENGINE REVVED AS WE WERE BACKING UP FROM A PARKING SPOT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING AND NOW WILL NOT TURN OFF. IN BOTH CASES, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED QUITE A BIT BUT IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. TEMPERATURE THIS ENTIRE WEEK HAS BEEN WELL OVER 95 DEGREES WITH HEAT INDEX OVER 105 SO AIR CONDITIONING WAS TURNED ON MAXIMUM FOR FRONT AND BACK AREAS OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE EXTREMELY FORTUNATE NO ONE GOT HURT IN EITHER INCIDENT. *TR

CAR ALSO STOPPED WHILE IN TRAFFIC SEVERAL TIMES. AFTER TAKING CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE, WE WERE TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. WHILE THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WE WERE ADVISED THIS PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AT A COST OF $700.00 TO US. WE HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE DEALERSHIP, OUR PROBLEM IS WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL!! THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
