MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE LURCHES FORWARD WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. GENERALLY HAPPENS WHEN IDLING AND ONLY IN WARM WEATHER. IT ACTUALLY JUMPS FORWARD AND HAVE TO PRESS MY FOOT ALL THE DOWN ON THE BRAKE HARD TO TRY TO CONTROL IT. I NEVER GET CLOSE BEHIND ANYONE FOR FEAR OF JUMPING INTO THEM. I'VE SO FAR NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS ALTHOUGH HAVE HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS, INCLUDING ALMOST RUNNING INTO PEDESTRIANS CROSSING A PARKING LOT. VERY VERY SCARY. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL STALL AFTER A HUGE LURCH. I TOOK IT INTO FORD 2 YEARS AGO TO EXPLAIN BUT THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. I BEG TO DIFFER ON THAT. *TR
WHILE IDLING WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR STARTED "SURGING". RPM'S REVVED UP AND HAD TO STAND ON BRAKE TO KEEP CAR FROM MOVING. HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, SPORADICALLY, THEN STARTED HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. NOW DOING THE SAME THING IN REVERSE. SEVERAL TIMES, WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO BACK UP THE CAR "LURCHES" 6 OR 8 FEET BEFORE I CAN STOP IT AGAIN. YESTERDAY, THE VEHICLE DIED AFTER DOING THIS, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY, LIGHT WENT OFF, AND DROVE HOME WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENTS. THIS IS NOW A DAILY OCCURANCE WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. NOT CERTAIN WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. SOME REPORTS CITE TRANSMISSION, SOME CITE THROTTLE BODY, AND SOME CITE THE NEED TO HAVE THE FUEL SYSTEM PROFESSIONALLY "CLEANED".
2006 FORD FREESTYLE STARTED TRYING TO DRIVE FORWARD ON ITS OWN. BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT YOU COULD STILL FEEL IT PULLING AND THE VEHICLE STARTED ROCKING BACK AND FORTH FOR A FEW SECONDS. WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME. IT WAS A HOT DAY AND THE AC WAS ON AS REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS SAME VEHICLE. SINCE SEEING THE REPORT THIS MORNING I HAVE DECIDED NOT TO RUN THE AC FOR THE TIME BEING WHILE THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BECAUSE SUDDEN LUNGING COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT WHEN MY WIFE TOLD ME WHAT HAD HAPPENED, BUT IT APPEARS IT IS COMMON. *TR
MY 2006 FORD LUNGES. IT ALSO LOSES POWER AND CUTS OFF WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE. THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE AND ANYWHERE. EVEN IF MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE IT WILL LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD IT DOES NO DISCRIMINATE. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. IT'S ALSO WORSE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SERIOUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAYS AND LOCAL STREETS, IF THE CAR IS JUST CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. LUNGING FORWARD/BACKWARD COULD BECOME POTENTIALLY SERIOUS AS WELL. I REALLY HOPE THAT FORD TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE ISSUES. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY STOPPED MAKING THE FREESTYLE WHAT 3 YRS LATER. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY REALIZED THERE WAS SOME KIND OF AN ISSUE WHY ELSE WOULD THEY QUIT MAKING IT? I HAVE TO SAY OTHER THAN THAT MAJOR PROBLEM OF LUNGING AND GOING THROUGH REAR BRAKES THE CAR ITSELF IS WONDERFUL AND NOT MY FIRST FORD. I LOVE FORD VEHICLES, UNFORTUNATELY I AM A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ONE. IF FORD WOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX IT THAT WOULD BE GREAT! I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT NOR GET ANOTHER VEHICLE. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A LEMON ON MY HANDS. *TR
UPON STARTING THE CAR AND PUTTING IT IN EITHER REVERSE OR FORWARD, THE ENGINE WOULD RACE AND EITHER LUNGE FORWARD OR BACKWARD. WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER AND STALL. THIS WAS MORE PREVALENT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS TURNED ON. ON STARTING THE CAR, I HAD TO PLACE MY FOOT WITH A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO ENSURE THAT THE CAR DID NOT LUNGE. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THEY COULD BE HURT IF THE CAR STALLED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WAS STRUCK. THE DEALER SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD THE PROBLEM BUT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE PART. IT WAS RATHER EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE THIS PART. I AM URGING THE GOVERNMENT TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED. THE PART IN QUESTION IS THE THROTTLE BODY. *KB
VEHICLE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ON MAY 10, 2011. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. WAS TOLD THAT THIS PARTICULAR TRANSMISSION (CVT) HAS A HIGH FAILURE RATE, IS USUALLY NOT REPAIRABLE, AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE (OVER $5,600). TRANSMISSION CAN ONLY BE REPLACED WITH THE SAME PROBLEMATIC TRANSMISSION WHICH WILL LIKELY FAIL AGAIN, AND IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM FORD, AND EVEN REQUIRES SPECIAL TOOLS TO WORK ON IT. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 71K MILES ON IT AND IS PROPERLY MAINTAINED. CONTACTED FORD WHO REFUSED TO HELP, AND CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED WHO REFUSED TO HELP. TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET, YET THERE IS NO RECALL TO HELP CONSUMERS. FORD SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH STICKING AMERICAN FAMILIES WITH THIS DEFECTIVE AND POORLY MANUFACTURED PRODUCT. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE HAD A MAJOR SURGE PROBLEM AT LOW SPEED, OFTEN WHEN TURNING INTO A PARK PLACE. SOME TIMES IT SHUT THE CAR OFF AND SETS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY, MANY TIMES. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2006 FREESTYLE NEW AND LOVE THE CAR BUT IT STARTED THIS ACCELERATING FOR NO REASON. I GO TO PARK AND IT ACCELERATES AND SCARES ME. I AM ALMOST AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES. MOSTLY IN THE LAST WEEK. PLEASE RECALL THIS CAR BEFORE SOMEBODY IS SERIOUSLY HURT. MY SON SAID ITS A THROTTLE PROBLEM ABOUT $400.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR
MY CAR BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS LUNGING FORWARD WHILE I WAS STOPPED AT A SCHOOL ZONE CROSS-WALK WAITING FOR CHILDREN TO CROSS. IT LUNGED FORWARD AND STOPPED JUST INCHES FROM HITTING 4 CHILDREN. IT TERRIFIED ME!!!! IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THAT DAY AND THE NEXT DAY UNTIL I COULD GET IT IN THE SHOP. I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED BY THE FORD MECHANICS BUT LUCKILY I GOT BY WITH JUST A THROTTLE BODY CLEANING. THE CAR NO LONGER LUNGES FORWARD. ABOUT THE SAME TIME, THE CAR HAD PROBLEMS FEELING LIKE IT WOULDN'T GET PAST 2ND GEAR AND IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE CAR STARTED MAKING A STRANGE CLICKING NOISE THAT WOULD GET FASTER WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE THEN SLOWER WHEN I WOULD BRAKE. IT QUIT MAKING THE NOISE BY THE TIME I COULD TAKE IT TO GET IT LOOKED AT A FEW DAYS LATER. THE AIR CONDITIONER WON'T GET COLD UNLESS THE CAR IS IN MOTION. THE HEATER DOES THE SAME THING. IT ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN ON EXTREME TEMPERATURE DAYS. THEN SPONTANEOUSLY, BOTH THESE PROBLEMS SEEMED TO FIX THEMSELVES. JUST THIS WEEK, MY CAR BACKFIRED 2 TIMES, THEN THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I STARTED IT, IT SMELLED HORRIBLE! I TURNED IT OFF IMMEDIATELY, THEN THE NEXT DAY, IT WOULDN'T START. TOOK IT TO MY FORD MECHANIC, AND HE SAID EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK. HE NOW THINKS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET SUGGESTS THAT THESE HAVE BEEN HUGE PROBLEMS FOR MANY FORD FREESTYLE OWNERS. AND YET NO RECALL? COME ON FORD!! YOU HAVE LOST MANY LOYAL CUSTOMERS OVER THIS!! PLEASE HELP ALL OF US TO GET A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS CAR!! I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF THREE CHILDREN, AND IF I GET STRANDED, I, LIKE MANY PEOPLE, HAVE NOBODY TO CALL AND NO WAY TO PAY IF I GET STRANDED. NOT SURE ON DATE WHEN INCIDENT OCCURRED, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD START LUNGING EVEN WHILE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. PROBLEM WORSENED OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO WHERE IT WOULD CUT OFF MULTIPLE TIMES. ALSO PROBLEM WOULD GET WORSE WHILE AIR CONDITION WAS ON. ONE DAY PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT ONE DAY THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD CAUSING ME TO HIT A PARKING BLOCK. DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT BUMPER ONLY. EVENTUALLY IT GOT TO WHERE WE WERE UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. HAS BEEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. WILL CRANK UP FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND WILL CUT OFF. *TR
SUNDAY, MAY 8, 2011-2006 FORD FREESTYLE SE WAS PARKED AND RUNNING WITH WIFE IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND DAUGHTER IN CHILD SEAT IN THE BACK WHILE I WAS IN A COMPUTER STORE PURCHASING A HARD DRIVE CONNECTOR. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR, MY WIFE HAD THE AIR CONDITIONING ON DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE RISING WHILE SITTING IDLING IN THE SUN. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AND HAD THE BRAKE ON WHILE COASTING BACK, AND THEN THE CAR JUMPED...LIKE I WAS PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. IMMEDIATELY, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE MUCH HARDER. THEN THE "WRENCH" SHAPED LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD BUT THE CAR DID NOT STALL. I THEN CONTINUED TO BACK OUT OF THE SPOT AND THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE TO DRIVE HOME. THE WRENCH LIGHT STAYED ON AND THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM TO RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL LIKE NORMAL. I HAD THE GAS PEDAL ALMOST FULLY DEPRESSED TO GET TO 35 MILES PER HOUR. MY GOAL WAS TO GET THE LIMPING CAR TO MY DRIVEWAY ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY. ONCE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY, I TURNED IT OFF, THEN IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED THE CAR. ONCE IT RESTARTED, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NO LONGER DISPLAYED AND THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY. THE CARS COMPUTER HAD TO BE "REPROGRAMMED" AT THE FORD DEALER THREE DAYS PRIOR BECAUSE THE CAR ALL OF THE SUDDEN WOULD NOT START. ONLY 34,000 MILES ON THE CAR. *TR
I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE, PLACED THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF, RETURNED IN 30 MINUTES, STARTED RIGHT UP, PLACED TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE, HEARD AND FELT A LARGE BANG, WHINING NOISE FROM ENGINE, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I DROVE IT. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP, REPLACED THE COMPUTER, RECODED, REFLASHED, NOTHING WORKED. I WAS TOLD IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. NEW TRANSMISSION ESTIMATE IS $7000.00...FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A FLAWED DESIGN...I WAS FORTUNATE IN THAT MY TRANSMISSION FAILED IN MY GARAGE, OTHERS WERE NOT SO LUCKY. PLEASE DONT WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE'S FAMILY IS KILLED BEFORE YOU FORCE A MUCH NEEDED RECALL ON SOME SERIOUSLY BAD RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. *TR
THE AUTOMOBILE SURGES WHEN INITIALING ENGAGING INTO EITHER REVERSE OR DRIVE. EXTREME PRESSURE NEEDS TO BE APPLIED TO THE BREAK TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM SURGING 5 TO 10 FEET, EITHER BACKWARDS OR FORWARDS DEPENDING ON WHICH GEAR IS SELECTED. TOOK THE CAR TO DANVERS FORD IN DANVERS, MASSACHUSETTS. THERE SERVICE MANAGER STATED HE HAD NOT HEARD OF ANY SURGING PROBLEMS. NO ERROR CODES WERE DETECTED. HE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE RECOMMENDED THE "THROTTLE BODY" BE REPLACED. FOR OBVIOUS SAFETY REASONS REASONS, WE COMPLIED AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AT AN OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE TO US OF ROUGHLY $650.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE, HE NOTICED THAT THE RPM'S WOULD INCREASE EXCESSIVELY. WHEN HIS FOOT WAS ALSO ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO LUNGE FORWARD AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO HAD NOT GIVEN THE CONTACT A DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 10/05/2011 *LN *TR
GOT IN MY CAR TO GO HOME ONE AFTERNOON AND IT CRANKED BUT WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL IT WOULDN'T MOVE. HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK AND HAVE IT TOWED TO A SHOP. MY CAR SPENT 2 WEEKS IN THE SHOP AND IT WAS DETERMINED IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE FREESTYLE AND IS USUALLY ONE OF THE FIRST MAJOR REPAIRS NEEDED. *KB

WHEN STOPPING OR TAKING OFF CAR SURGES WHETHER YOUR BACKING UP OR AT A STOP LIGHT. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY,CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WHEN STOPPED AT RED LIGHT CAN ONLY INCH FORWARD.
WE HAVE A 2006 FREESTYLE AND ARE EXPERIENCING A LUNGING PROBLEM WHEN SITTING IDLE. IT HAPPENS IN REVERSE OR DRIVE. FORTUNATELY, WE HAVE BEEN ALERT AND APPLIED THE BREAKS BEFORE RUNNING IN TO SOMETHING OR SOMEONE. THIS IS NOT A GOOD SITUATION AND IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. VEHICLE LUNGES AND ENGINE REVS UP AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN STOPPING AND AT STOPPED. THIS SEEMED TO HAPPEN AT LOW RPM AND WHEN THE A/C WAS ON AND CYCLING. ALSO NOTICE THIS AT TIMES WHEN STOPPED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED, AND WHEN BACKING UP. *TR
MY CAR LUNGES FORWARD OR BACKWARD RANDOMLY. FOR EXAMPLE MY CAR IS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I WILL START IT IN THE MORNING AND PUT IT IN REVERSE AND THE CAR WILL SURGE BACKWARDS WITHOUT ME EVEN TOUCHING THE GAS PETAL. AT RANDOM MOMENTS I WILL TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND MY CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD. IT IS DANGEROUS. I AM USE TO IT AND I KEEP MY FOOT CLOSE TO THE BRAKE SO I DO NOT HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, BUT I AM SCARED THAT IT WILL GET WORSE AND THAT I WILL GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE IDLING THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD AND (REVERSE IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS) ALL BY ITS SELF. THIS CONTINOUSLY HAPPENS. I HAVE EVEN HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IT DOES THIS. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY CONSISTENCY WITH THE INCIDENTS OTHER THAN WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON IT IS WORSE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. IT HAPPENS NO MATTER WHERE I AM, IN THE DRIVE WAY OR PARKING LOT AT PRESCHOOL WHERE THERE ARE PEDESTRIANS AROUND AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER MY CAR. SOMETIMES AFTER THE CAR LUNGES (AND IT HAPPENS FORWARD AND REVERSE) THE CAR WILL STALL AND THEN WHEN I TURN IT ON THE WRENCH/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR WILL DRIVE BUT FEELS LIKE IT IS BOGGING DOWN. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT. *TR
VEHICLE SURGES WITH NO APPLICATION OF THE ACCELERATOR. THE SURGE SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, WITH OR WITHOUT THE BRAKE APPLIED, AND SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON ALTHOUGH NOT ALL SURGES HAVE OCCURRED WITH THE AIR-CONDITIONING ON. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND SEEMS TO OCCUR IN SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL MONTHS WHEN THE AIR-CONDITIONING HAS BEEN IN USE. THIS SURGING PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY IN FRONT OF A HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN OUT OF PARK AND PLACED IN REVERSE WHEN THE VEHICLE SURGED BACKWARD TO THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT APPLIED TO MAKE THE VEHICLE MOVE AND THE AIR-CONDITIONING WAS NOT ON AT THE TIME OF THE SURGE ALTHOUGH IT HAD BEEN USED EARLY THAT DAY. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE LIMITED THAT LEAKS THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE THIRD ROW SEATBELT. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE ON THE INTERNET IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS BECAUSE OF THE MOONROOF DRAIN CLIPS. I KNOW THIS PART IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND SHORTED OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE/TURN SIGNAL LIGHT. I KNOW IT IS NOT THE FUSE BECAUSE THE FRONT ONE WORKS AND I KNOW IT'S NOT THE BULB BECAUSE THE BULB ONE THE PASSENGER SIDE WORKED WHEN I TRIED IT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A BIG SAFELY PROBLEM SINCE OTHER DRIVERS DON'T KNOW IF I AM TURNING. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. *TR

ON OR ABOUT SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 2011 I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. I HAD BEEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 40 MPH FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR AND WAS ENTERING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS COMING AROUND THE ONRAMP CURVE AND WAS NOT PRESSING ON THE GAS. I FELT THE CAR ACCELERATE WHICH AT FIRST I ATTRIBUTED TO A SLIGHT DOWNHILL PITCH IN THE HIGHWAY. I DID HEAR A 'REVVING' SOUND TYPICAL OF WHEN I WOULD BE ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY, BUT SINCE I WAS NOT PRESSING ON THE GAS I ASSUMED THAT IT WAS THE SOUND OF THE CAR NEXT TO ME. AS THE ROAD BEGAN TO RISE IN PITCH, I PREPARED TO STEP ON THE GAS ' BUT WHEN I WENT TO STEP ON THE PEDAL, IT WAS NOT WITHIN THE NORMAL REACH OF MY FOOT. AT THAT MOMENT, I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE EVEN UPHILL AND THAT THE REVVING SOUND WAS INDEED COMING FROM MY OWN CAR, EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT PRESSING ON THE GAS AT ALL. I SCOOTED FORWARD ON THE SEAT A BIT TO TRY TO REACH THE GAS PEDAL AND REALIZED THE GAS PEDAL WAS SOMEHOW PULLED COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED NOT TO PANIC AND WAS CONSIDERING WHETHER I SHOULD SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. BUT THEN I REALIZED THAT MY FIRST COURSE OF ACTION SHOULD BE TO TRY THE BRAKE. AS SOON AS I DID, THE REVVING STOPPED AND THE ACCELERATOR RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. I TOLD MY HUSBAND, WHO WAS IN THE BACK SEAT, WHAT JUST HAPPENED AND HE SUGGESTED I CHECK THE FLOOR MAT. I PULLED OVER INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. I COULD SEE THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS TWISTED (RATHER THAN GOING STRAIGHT, IT WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT BY ABOUT 20 DEGREES), SO WHEN I PULLED IT TO STRAIGHTEN IT I DID GET A TINY BIT OF RESISTANCE INITIALLY, AS THOUGH MAYBE THE FLOOR MAT HAD BEEN CAUGHT IN THE PEDAL. HOWEVER, THE RESISTANCE WAS SMALL . WHILE IT DID SEEM POSSIBLE THAT THE MAT COULD HAVE BEEN HOLDING THE PEDAL IN PLACE IF I HAD BEEN PRESSING ON THE PEDAL, I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT COULD "PULL" THE PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR OUT OF MY REACH. MY MECHANIC COULD SEE NO PROBLEMS. IS THIS RELATED TO THE LUNGING? *TR
I WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WITH MY CHILDREN WHILE MY WIFE WENT TO PICK UP A FEW GROCERIES. WHEN WE LEFT I PUT THE CAR REVERSE AND SLOWLY TOOK MY FOOT OF THE BREAK. THE CAR THEN JERKED BACKWARDS AS MY FOOT WAS SOFTLY ON THE BREAK AND THEN AGAIN WHEN IT WAS OFF THE BREAK. THE CAR THEN STALLED AND THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE, MOSTLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN "DRIVE" WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER WORKING HARD AND MY FOOT EITHER SOFTLY ON THE BREAK OR JUST OFF THE BREAK. THE CAR WILL JERK FORWARD. I'M NOT SURE THE COMPONENT THAT IS MALFUNCTIONING, BUT BELLOW IS AN EDUCATED GUESS.
VEHICLE ACCELERATES, WITHOUT DEPRESSION OF GAS PEDAL. LUNGE FORWARD AT STOP LIGHTS WHILE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IT SURGES IN REVERSE AS WELL, EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AND THE GAS PEDAL IS VACANT. I CALLED DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST UP TO $1000. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND IT IS COMMON TO ALL FORD FREESTYLES. IT IS MOST DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURING FLAW AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. THE CAR ALREADY HAS SURGED INTO A POLE ONCE, IT IS GETTING BAD. *TR

THIS TIME THEY SAID IT WAS TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM, REPAIRS MADE. THIS PROBLEM AGAIN OCCURRED YESTERDAY, AGAIN WHEN ON FREEWAY TRAVELING AT 60 MPH, VEHICLE LOST POWER AND COULD NOT RETURN VEHICLE TO FULL POWER. I FEEL THAT MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS ARE IN DANGER DUE TO THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE INABILITY OF THE FORD DELEARSHIP TO MAKE REPAIRS. WE HAVE READ THAT OTHERS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND ARE REPORTING ISSUES WITH THE THROTTLE BODY.
