FRONT AND REAR BRAKES ON 06 FORD FREESTYLE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE ROTORS ON THIS CAR OR HAD TO HAVE THEM RESURFACED 4 TIME SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. AT 39,000 MILES THEY DID A TSB ON THE REAR BRAKES, AT 79,000 THE REPLACED PADS, RESURFACED ROTORS, AND CLEANED AND LUBED THE SLIDES AND PINS, AT 85,000 MILES THEY REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND RESURFACED THE FRONT ROTORS AGAIN, AT 96,905 THEY REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS. WHY ARE THERE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON THESE CARS? WHAT ARE THY DOING TO HELP THE CONSUMER WITH THE COST OF REPAIRS? *TR
HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO LOOK INTO THE FORD FREESTYLE THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM??? IT HAS BEEN YEARS...WHY ARE YOU WAITING SO LONG TO RECALL THESE CARS.. IAM SURE THIS PROBLEM WILL EITHER HURT OR KILL SOMEBODY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY BECOME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION CAUSING UNWANTED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE THROTTLE MOTOR WAS REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000. UPDATED12/15/10. *LJ UPDATED 12/27/10
I HAVE A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IT HAS A PROBLEM IN SURGING AND LURCHING MOST IN REVERSE YOU HAVE TO HIT THE BRAKE TO STOP AND THEN IT STALLS AND A WARNING LIGHT WITH A SYMBOL OF A WRENCH COMES ON MY WIFE TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BATTERY??? WHICH WE HAD PUT IN... BUT IT STILL DID THIS IS A REAL ISSUE.. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT 10 MONTHS NOW. I CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY BUTTERFLY THE OTHER DAY SO NOT SURE IF THAT WILL HELP. *TR
I WOULD BE SITTING IN LINE AT SCHOOL TO PICK UP GRAND DAUGHTER WITH AIR ON, LET OFF BRAKE TO MOVE FORWARD AND CAR WOULD SURGE THIS CONTINUED, BUT FORTUNATELY I WASN'T PICKING HER UP AS OFTEN. I COULD NOT TURN AIR ON. MY FREESTYLE NOW ONLY HAS 58,947MILES(APPROX.). SOMETIME IN 2012 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD OFFERING TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAD IT CLEANED THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE A TRUCK AND SMELLED LIKE GAS. THE LAST FEW MONTHS IT DIES ON THE HIGHWAY. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE ON BUSY ROADS. I HAD MY CAR DIAGNOSED, THEY SAY IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS MESSING UP THE COMPUTER. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD DISTRIBUTOR TO NO AVAIL. I AM TRYING TO GET FUNDS TOGETHER TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE THAT FORD ONLY SOLD FREESTYLES FOR A FEW YEARS. *TR
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN PUTTING CAR INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MOST OFTEN WHEN RUNNING THE AC. PARKING AND PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPACES IS VERY DANGEROUS AS ACCELERATION HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN USUALLY IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO OTHER CARS AND PEOPLE. 2006 FORD FREESTYLE WITH 60,000 MILES. *TR

THROTTLE BODY SEEM TO MAKE THE VEHICLE LUNGE FORWARD WHILE SETTING IN TRAFFIC. ALMOST STRUCK VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME ON MANY OCCASIONS. I'M FORCED TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL WHILE STOPPED. *KB
TRANSMISSION WHILE DRIVING SUDDENLY QUITS AND ALMOST MAKE ME LOST CONTROL AT 70 MPH. I HAVE READ THAT FORD HAD MANY PARTS THAT WERE BAD AND STILL PUT IT IN TRANSMISSIONS WHILE MANUFACTURING TO KEEP UP WITH DEADLINES. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FREESTYLE THAT LUNGES WHEN YOU PUT IT IN GEAR .HIT A CAR BACKING UP IN PARKING LOT. CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED I'M UNEMPLOYED. *TR
THE CAR AHEAD OF ME HAD RUN OFF THE FREEWAY DUE TO SNOW. I STOPPED TO SEE IF HE WAS OK. ONCE I STARTED UP, I PUSHED DOWN HARD ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AND BE UP TO SPEED FOR THE TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME. THE PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING. ONCE IT REACHED 75MPH, I HELD DOWN FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED. AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE, THE CAR TOOK OFF AGAIN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I QUICKLY HIT MY FOOT TO THE GAS PEDAL AND WAS ABLE TO KNOCK IT LOOSE AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A FAULTY GAS PEDAL AND I HAD IT REPLACED (AT MY COST). THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. THE DEALER CONTINUES TO TELL ME THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE VEHICLE. AFTER THAT FIRST INCIDENT, THERE WAS ONE TIME THAT I HAD STARTED THE CAR IN MY GARAGE AND DROVE DOWN THE STREET. ONCE I TURNED THE CORNER, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, LUNGING FORWARD BUT I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT. AT THAT TIME, I WAS TOLD IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND THE DEALER DID THE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. EVEN AFTER THAT WORK, I STILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. WHILE SWITCHING THE GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO LUNGED FORWARD AND STALLED WHEN MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ECM NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE ECM WAS REPROGRAMMED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE11018 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 08/31/11*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PUT IN RVERESE. UPDATED 09/07/11
AIRBAG SENSOR AND WIRING HARNESS FAILURE. THE HARNESS IS LOCATED IN SUCH A POSITION THAT IT IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO MOISTURE AND AT TIME OF REPLACEMENT WAS VERY RUSTED AND CORRODED. *TR
MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCES UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT WHEN THE DRIVER'S FOOT IS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE VEHICLE BRAKES ARE EFFECTIVE IN EITHER PREVENTING OR STOPPING THE MOVEMENT, BUT IN SOME CASES THE VEHICLE HAS MOVED AS MUCH AS 10 FEET IF THE BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED, LIGHTLY APPLIED OR APPLIED LATE. THE MOVEMENT RESULTING FROM THE UNEXPECTED IDLE SPEED INCREASE, OFTEN DESCRIBED AS A "LUNGE," GENERALLY OF BRIEF DURATION. WHAT SHOULD I DO, HOW CAN THIS BE FIXED? *TR

WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 70MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT HER VEHICLE SUDDENLY MADE AN UNKNOWN NOISE AND HAD BEGUN TO COAST IN NEUTRAL, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE.AND AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED OVER THE PHONE THAT THE CVT IN THE TRANSMISSION MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR SERVICED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 63000.
SURGING/LUNGING OF CAR EVEN WHILE PRESSING BRAKES AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. OCCURS QUITE FREQUENTLY. HAVE NOT REPAIRED YET, WILL NOT LET WIFE OR DAUGHTER DRIVE UNTIL I GET IT FIXED. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS ISSUES IN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WHEN INCHING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY OR PARKING PLACE. IT SURGES WHEN THE GEARS ARE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE AND VISA VERSA. I WAS IN LINE AT A DRIVE THROUGH AT IDLE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WAITING FOR MY TURN TO INCH UP TO THE ORDER MICROPHONE. MY 06 FORD FREESTYLE ACCELERATED OF ITS OWN ACCORD, ALMOST CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED OUT AND THE ORANGE WRENCH ON THE DASH LIGHTED UP .I DROVE TO THE CLOSEST DEALER IN LIMP MODE. THE DEALER COULDN'T SCHEDULE A TIMELY APPOINTMENT AND I DECIDED TO TRY TO MAKE IT TO A DEALER ACROSS TOWN. THE VEHICLE THEN CRANKED AND RAN WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION AT THE NEXT DEALERSHIP IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACED. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT OF RANDOM ACCELERATION THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH THAT OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER CAR. NOW THAT I REFLECT BACK TO THE CRASH, AFTER THE MOST RECENT RANDOM ACCELERATION, I CANNOT DETERMINE THAT I WAS ENTIRELY AT FAULT FOR THE INCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN A CRASH. I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IDLING AND WAITING FOR IT TO CHANGE WHEN I REMEMBER A SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT WITHOUT SUCCESS BEFORE IT CRASHED. THE CORRECTION FOR THE PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER HAS SAID THE REPAIR PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND NO APPROXIMATE DATE OF ACQUISITION IS STATED. DEALER ALSO STATES THAT MY VEHICLE IS INOPERABLE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF SAID PART AND IS A SAFETY RISK, YET FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS NOT AGREED NOR OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE OTHER THAN PUTTING THE PART REQUEST ON EXPEDITED STATUS. NO RECALL FOR THE WIDESPREAD FAILURE OF THIS PART HAS BEEN ISSUED BY FORD. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS VEHICLE AS IT IS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE LUNGES/SURGES WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR PARK TO REVERSE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR AT LEAST 1 YEAR .IT IS VERY SCAREY AND UNSAFE FOR MY TEENAGE DRIVER WHO IS JUST LEARNING TO DRIVE. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS TWICE ALREADY. THE BRAKES WEAR OUT VERY QUICKLY AROUND 15,000 MILES. LAST I REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT 100,000. I BOUGHT A USED 2007 TRANSMISSION TO SAVE SOME MONEY. NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS BAD AGAIN. IT IS ONCE AGAIN SLIPPING AND I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN 15,000 SINCE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH ONE OD ONLY 56,000 MILES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE REPAIR EXPENSES. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A WATER LEAK COMING FROM THE SUNROOF INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND THE TIRE WELL. THE WATER LEAK HAS CAUSED RUST AND MOLD TO THE SPARE TIRE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED YET HE HAS NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE . THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 35,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE UP TO TWO FEET. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND THAT IF THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE, THERE WOULD BE NO REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 FREESTYLE (WHICH I PURCHASED USED IN NOV. 2009) IN LATE FEBRUARY ON A UPPER 30'S DEGREE DAY. I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE WINDOW NEXT TO MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER SHATTERED. IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS BLOWN OUT. LOOKED ON LINE AND SAW MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT FORDS - MOSTLY ESCAPES - WITH EXPLODING WINDOW PROBLEMS. DIDN'T GET ANY SATISFACTION FROM MY DEALER OR FORD. HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE INTERMITTENT FAILURE WAS CONTINUOUSLY OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED UNKNOWN REPAIRS. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

WE OWN A 2006 FORD FREESTYLE THAT HAD A SAFETY RECALL # 06S45 PERTAINING TO DOOR LATCHES STICKING. IT WAS PERFORMED IN 2006. ON FEB 10 2010 THE DOOR LATCH FAILED TO WORK WHILE I WAS BUCKLING MY CHILDREN INTO THE CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE TO THEM. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL IN 2006 THAT THEY WERE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS. *TR
THE SEAT LOCKS IN PLACE S O THAT IT CANNOT BE RAISED. THEREFORE, NO ONE CAN SIT IN THE THIRD ROW OF SEATS.

THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY HEAVY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON ALL THREE OCCASIONS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
ENGINE WILL REV UP WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE BEING APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN PARK AND IS PUT IN GEAR. HAPPENS IN BOTH REVERSE AND FORWARD AND CAN CAUSE YOU TO JUMP OUT IN TRAFFIC IF NOT PREPARED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES. HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER A FEW TIMES WITH NO POSITIVE OUTCOME. ONGOING INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. LAST NOTICED YESTERDAY. *TR
TRANSMISSION SHUT DOWN AS I WAS DRIVING ALONG HIGHWAY. *TR
UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WHILE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS HAPPENS BOTH WHILE IN FORWARD AND REVERSE, AND IS A FAIRLY RARE OCCURRENCE, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW INSTANCES WHEN THIS "SURGING" OCCURS WHILE I'VE BEEN STOPPED AT BUSY STREETS. DEFINITELY A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN, AS THIS IS A FAMILY VEHICLE. LOOKING AT FORD DISCUSSION BOARDS, IT APPEARS TO BE FAIRLY COMMON IN THE FREESTYLE. WE'VE ALSO HAD LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING - THE ENGINE RPMS GO WAY UP, POWER GOES WAY DOWN & THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON (CAR GOES INTO "LIMP" MODE); TURNING THE CAR OFF & THEN BACK ON HELPED INITIALLY, BUT THE ISSUE HAS BECOME MORE COMMON & PREVALENT; CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY; ONE OF THE SURGES CAUSED MY WIFE TO SIDE-SWIPE A CONCRETE POLE IN A PARKING RAMP AS SHE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. FAILURE OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 60K MILES, BUT SUDDEN ACCELERATIONS HAVE OCCURRED OVER THE PAST 5K MILES (APPROXIMATELY). *TR

VEHICLE HAS, ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, LUNGED FORWARD WHILE IDLING. THE RPMS ALL THE SUDDEN REV UP AND THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD OR BACK DEPENDING ON THE GEAR. I HAVE NOTICED THIS MOSTLY WHILE PARKING OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING PLACE. BRAKING HARD STOPS THE CAR, BUT YOU CAN STILL HEAR THE ENGINE REVVING.

LUNGING PROBLEM FOR 2006 FORD FREESTYLE - I JUST WENT TO THE FORD WEBSITE TO CHECK FOR ANY RECALLS BECAUSE WE ARE EXPERIENCING A LUNGING PROBLEM. THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE DOES NOT LIST ONE BUT I FOUND INFO LISTED THRU YOUR WEBSITE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT DOES HAPPEN AT LOW SPEEDS, WE COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT AND WE'VE SPENT MONEY ALREADY TRYING TO STOP THE ISSUE BUT IT KEEPS HAPPENING, IT FIRST HAPPENED ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO AND WE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHEN LETTING OFF BRAKE IN 2010. FORD REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME. THE CAR STARTED LUNGING AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES IN JUNE 2012 AND IN JULY THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. DEALERSHIP ADVISED US TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ONCE AGAIN. *TR

WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE THE AUTO WOULD SURGE WITHOUT WARNING, AS IF THE FUEL PEDAL WERE APPLIED. THIS ALSO DID IT WHEN GOING FROM REVERSE TO FORWARD. HAD TO KEEP FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AT ALL TIMES OR RISK AN ACCIDENT. CAR BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE WHEN THIS OCCURRED. AT 80,472 MILES. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT STAYED ON AFTER ANOTHER SURGE PROBLEM THAT STALLED THE AUTO. RAY SKILLMAN FORD IN GREENWOOD, IN DETERMINED IT WAS THE "THROTTLE BODY". IT WAS REPLACED AND WHILE THE SERVICE MAN DROVE THE CAR, THE ENTIRE A/C UNIT WENT OUT. THEY PUT A NEW CLUTCH & COMPRESSOR. AFTER CALLING SEVERAL FORD DEALERSHIPS, THERE HAS BEEN A HUGE BACKORDER OF THESE THROTTLE BODY'S. CAPITAL CITY FORD IS INSTALLING TWO A DAY THE SAME WITH RAY SKILLMAN FORD.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I PURCHASED MY 2006 FORD FREESTYLE IN JUNE OF 2007. INITIALLY I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE COMFORT, SIZE, AND GAS MILEAGE OF MY NEW CAR. AROUND 2 1/2 YRS LATER I STARTED NOTICING WHEN MOVING FROM PARK TO REVERSE MY CAR WOULD SOMETIMES STALL OR LUNGE BACKWARDS. IT WAS ONLY OCCASIONALLY AND AT THE TIME I WAS TOLD I PROBABLY DIDN'T HAVE IT IN GEAR ALL THE WAY BEFORE REVERSING. I HAD TO SWITCH FROM PARK TO REVERSE VERY SLOWLY AND ALWAYS BE READY TO HIT THE BRAKE IN CASE IT DECIDED TO LUNGE ON ITS OWN. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE AWAY EXCEPT NOW I HAVE PROBLEMS ACCELERATING. ALMOST ALWAYS ON THE HIGHWAY NOW MY CAR WILL LOOSE POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON. ONCE I PULL OVER AND RESTART IT , IT SEEMS TO TEMPORARILY SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS HOWEVER BEYOND DANGEROUS. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED IN PLACES ON BUSY HIGHWAYS WHERE THERE IS NO SHOULDER. I HAVE TO TRAVEL IN THE SLOW LANE NOW 100% OF THE TIME AND I TRY TO AVOID MAJOR INTERSTATE AT ALL COSTS. I HAVE INVESTED A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY INTO SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS THAT HAVE TURNED OUT TO NOT BE THE PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY NOW, BEFORE IT ENDS UP KILLING SOMEONE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE IT SEEMED LIKE A GREAT FAMILY CAR BUT NOW I AM SCARED TO DEATH TO EVEN LET CHILDREN RIDE WITH ME. THE EFFECT APPEARS TO BE EXAGGERATED WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS TURNED ON. THE THROTTLE BODY/TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE LIGHT HAS COME ON DURING A FEW OF THE INCIDENTS. THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE.
