TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A MOTOR HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS A CERTIFIED FORD MECHANIC. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. WAY SCARFF FORD AUBURN LOCATED AT 501 AUBURN WAY N, AUBURN, WA 98002, (253) 833-1500, WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V904000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 140,000.
TWO TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK MY POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT HAS POPPED UP ON MY DASHBOARD AND MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN LOCKED UP. AFTER TURNING IT OFF AND LEAVING IT FOR A FEW HOURS AND TRYING AGAIN IT'S FINE LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED. BUT BEING IT IS ELECTRICAL I CAN NOT JUST PUT FLUID IN IT. THIS ISSUE CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW IF I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL POP UP AND LOCK MY STEERING UP OR I WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE. SINCE IT JUST POPS UP AND GOES AWAY EVENTUALLY THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE!
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, DRIVING TO WORK IN RAIN AND WET ROAD CONDITIONS. DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS TRAVELING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WITH A PUDDLE ON THE ROADWAY. I FELT THE ABS ENGAGE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATE. THE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE FELT FIRM PRIOR TO THE ABS ENGAGING. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO REMAIN IN MOTION WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. THIS TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR BOARD BEFORE THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLES STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO WORK AND HOME, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUED TO REMAIN SOFT AND DID NOT ENGAGE BRAKES UNTIL REACHING THE FLOOR. I CHECKED FOR OBVIOUS LEAKS AROUND THE BRAKE CALIBERS, WITH NONE NOTED, AND THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS AT THE FULL LEVEL IN THE FLUID RESERVOIR. THERE ARE NO INDICATIONS OF EXTERNAL LEAKING AROUND THE MASTER CYLINDER. I HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS, ABS OR OTHERS, ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE BRAKES BECAME SOFT AND LESS RESPONSIVE. ORIGINALLY SUSPECTED A MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE, BUT NOW SUSPECT A ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT OR MODULE AFTER READING ABOUT SIMILAR FAULT CONDITIONS ON THE INTERNET. THE VEHICLES BRAKE FLUID WAS SERVICED BY FIRESTONE ABOUT 45 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS FAULT OCCURRING. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS FAULT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WARNING OF IMPENDING FAILURE AND THE LACK OF A WARNING LIGHT INDICATION WITH THE FAULT STILL PRESENT IS ALSO TROUBLING. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AT THE TIME IT HAD OCCURRED AND WAS ABLE TO REDUCE MY SPEED AND INCREASE MY FOLLOWING DISTANCE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED BY AN UNKNOWN DEALER IN WOODSTOCK, VA. WHILE THE CONTACT'S FRIEND WAS DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE STEERING LOST POWER AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. IN ADDITION, THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FALT FAULT NOTICE DISPLAYED INTERMITTENTLY AT STARTUP NORMALLY CLEARING WITH 2ND START. THIS EVENTUALLY RESULTED IN TOTAL FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING.
GETTING CODE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT " ON THE DASH BOARD READ OUT. THE STEERING STOPS WORKING AND CAN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. IF I TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART THE CAR, THE STEERING STARTS WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING (DRIVING THE CAR) ON A CITY STREET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AND NEARLY CAUSED A HEAD ON COLLISION. AFTERWARDS, SEVERAL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STEERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE HOME. GEORGE COLEMAN FORD (47 PLAZA DR, TRAVELERS REST, SC 29690, (864) 834-6090) SCHEDULED A LOANER VEHICLE FOR THE CONTACT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY BY 1,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT GOING TO COVER THE REPAIRS AND THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK AND PINION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE FAILURE EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT APPEAR BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,088.
WHILE IN MOTION AND WHEN THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES EITHER DUE TO BRAKES OR STABILITY CONTROL, A VALVE IN THE CONTROL UNIT STICKS OPEN AND FROM THEN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE MODULATION OF THE BRAKES. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE ABS ACTIVATES.

WHEN THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE WARNING INDICATOR WAS NOT ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO OPERATE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHY DRIVING MY CAR I LOST MY POWER STEERING AND ALMOST GOT IN BAD ACCIDENT. TOOK TO DEALER AND COST ME $200 JUST DIAGNOSE TO FIND OUT GOING COST $2200 TO FIX. THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY. LOOK UP ON RECALLS TO FIND OUT 2011-2012 FORD FUSIONS HAS RECALL FOR THAT. BUT FIND OUT THAT MY 2011 FORD FUSION NOT COVERED BY VIN NUMBER LOOK UP. THIS CAR VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANY MORE WITH OUT FIXING AND IF I GET FIXED IS IT GOING HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE INVESTIGATING THE PROBLEM THE EXHAUST ON CATALEPTIC CONVERTER IS 3' INCHES FROM ELECTRIC STEERING ASSEMBLY AND MAKES IT GET TO HOT FRY'S THE MODULE FOR STEERING.
THE POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT SAYING THAT IT NEEDED TO BE CHECK AND IT HAD JUST BEEN AT A MECHANIC FOR ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE BREAKS
WHEN BREAKING FOLLOWING AN ABS EVENT, THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE STOPPING THE CAR. THIS CONDITION PERSISTS FOR AN INDETERMINATE AMOUNT OF TIME (MINUTES TO DAYS) BEFORE SELF-CORRECTING. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS OVER ABOUT TWO YEARS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT AFTER HARD BRAKING ON SNOWY/ICY ROADS AND AFTER HITTING POT HOLES. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME CONDITION AS REPORTED IN RECALL 19S54 (ABS VALVE MAY REMAIN OPEN AFTER ABS EVENT) WHICH DOES NOT COVER MY CAR'S MODEL YEAR. MY MECHANIC HAS DONE THE FOLLOWING WORK WHICH HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM: INSTALLED NEW FRONT AND BACK CALIPERS, PADS, AND ROTORS, COMPLETELY FLUSHED BRAKE FLUID, AND BLED ANTI-LOCK BRAKES USING INSTRUCTIONS IN THE FORD IDS SCAN TOOL.
VEHICLE GOES TO HIGH SPEED WHEN BACKING UP IN REVERSE, AND IS UNCONTROLLABLE. EVEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT ENOUGH TO SOP THE VEHICLE. IT IS SOMETIMES NECESSARY TO CHANGE THE GEARS ON THE AUTOMATIC SHIFT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. IT RECENTLY HAPPENED YESTERDAY DEC.2, 1919. DURING THIS INCIDENT, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE TO PREVENT HITTING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME IN A WALMART PARKING LOT, AND FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REVVING OUT OF CONTROL GOING FORWARD.

ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRADFORD FAIRWAY SALES (472 E MAIN ST, BRADFORD, PA 16701, 814-368-7166) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF AND FOUND FUEL ON THE GROUND. THE CONTACT ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS CRACKED AND THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS CAPLESS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V793000 (FUEL TANK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING I GOT A WARNING MESSAGE SAYING THAT I POWER STEERING FAILURE AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC. MY STEERING WHEEL WAS TOO TIGHT TO EVEN A MAKE A TURN.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WAS DISPLAYED AND THE POWER ASSIST WAS DISABLED LEAVING ME WITH MANUAL STEERING WHICH COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. FORD MOTOR CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS OCCURED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO YORK FORD RENTALS (781-231-1945, LOCATED AT 1481 BROADWAY, SAUGUS, MA 01906) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.

ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKES STARTED GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND IT BECAME INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR. MY ABS SYSTEM AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL VALVE WERE REPLACED IN NOVEMBER OF 2019. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME ON 11/10/2020. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND THEY SAY IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN.
2011 FORD FUSION. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DETACHED DOOR HANDLE FROM DOOR LATCH. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. THE DOOR HANDLE BECAME UNLINKED FROM THE FROM THE DOOR LATCH. *JS
VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN ON DRY PAVEMENT IN A PARKING LOT, DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STOPPED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL THROUGH THE STOP SIGN BUT EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP. INTERMITTENT ISSUE HAS NOT REPEATED SINCE BUT THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 30 MILES SINCE THE INCIDENT. SEEMS SIMILAR TO THE JUST ANNOUNCED FUSION RECALL BY FORD BUT THE 2011 MODEL YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED.
WHEN TRYING TO START VEHICLE, POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE NOTIFICATION COMES ON AND POWER STEERING IS DISABLED. CAR MUST MUST BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO TURN OFF NOTIFICATION AND ENABLE POWER STEERING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ALREADY. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FOR THE 2011 FORD FUSION BUT NOT FOR MY SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER. THE RECALL NUMBERIS 1518. THE DATE NOTED IN REPORT, NOVEMBER 15, 2019 WAS THE LATEST INCIDENT. IT HAPPENED TWICE THAT DAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND HAD TO BE PUMPED REPEATEDLY FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE STOPPED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT ILLUMINATED ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FIRST TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THEN TOWED TO TERREBONNE FORD LINCOLN LOCATED AT 339 ST CHARLES ST, HOUMA, LA 70360, AND THEN TOWED BACK TO THE ORIGINAL MECHANIC DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MATTER AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED UNREPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000. *DT CONSUMER STATED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS.**JB
AS A I ENGAGE MY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP OR SLOW DOWN MY BRAKE SINKS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. AT TIMES MY ABS WILL ENGAGE IF I'M COMING TO A SUDDEN STOP, ONLY ON THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE. MY LEFT DRIVER SIDE TIRE IS SHOWING WEAR FROM THIS EVENT HAPPENING QUITE OFTEN. AT OTHER TIMES I'VE HAD CLOSE CALL ACCIDENTS DUE TO MY BRAKES NOT ENGAGING LIKE THEY SHOULD. MY YEARLY INSPECTION IS ALSO GETTING DIFFICULT TO PAST BY HAVING THIS BRAKE ISSUE. AS FAR AS I KNOW 2006- 2010 MODELS HAVE HAD A RECALL DUE TO SIMILAR INCIDENTS. MY 2011 FUSION WAS MANUFACTURED IN FEBRUARY 2011 AND COULD HAVE THE SAME PARTS USED. I'VE LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM BEFORE THE RECALL WAS PUT IN PLACE FOR THE OLDER MODELS AND MANY FORD OWNERS REPORT THE BRAKE ABS PUMP BEING THE PROBLEM. I'VE CHANGED MY BRAKES AND CALIPERS TO SEE IF ANY WOULD FIX THE ISSUE BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS THE SAME.

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
2011 FORD FUSIONS WERE RECALLED IN 2015 FOR SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. MY 2011 FORD FUSION WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN BECAUSE LAST WINTER I SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING WHILE IN MOTION, TURNING IN A PARKING LOT. FORTUNATELY I WASN'T GOING FAST AT THE TIME, AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP. THE AUTO SHOP USED "TSB 11-11-03" THAT WAS PUBLISHED ON NOV 3, 2011, WHICH INDICATES THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNEW ABOUT HIGH FRICTION ISSUES IN SOME CONTROL ARMS THAT CAN CAUSE THE POWER STEERING TO FAIL. THE AUTO SHOP FOLLOWED THE SERVICE PROCEDURE SPECIFIED IN TSB 11-11-03 AND REPLACED BOTH CONTROL ARMS, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE KNOWN SERVICE PROCEDURE FIXED THE KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING, I PRESUME MY 2011 FORD FUSION SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FROM 2015, AND PERHAPS OTHER EXCLUDED 2011 FORD FUSIONS COULD BE IN JEOPARDY OF THEIR POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILING, CONSIDERING MINE DIDN'T FAIL UNTIL NOVEMBER OF 2019.
DRIVING TODAY AND POWER STEERING FLASHED ON DASH AND STEERING LOCKED UP COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL EITHER WAY I SEE THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE AND RECALLS DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. WHEN LOOKED UP RECALL USING VIN NOTHING CAME UP BUT I SEE ALL THESE COMPLAINTS THAT ARE EXACTLY WHAT HAPPEN TO MY CAR. VERY DANGEROUS THE STEERING JUST LOCKED UP. THANK GOD I WASN'T GOING FAST BECAUSE MY CHILDREN WHERE WITH ME WHEN THIS HAPPEN. HAD TO TURN CAR OFF AND WHEN STARTED IT AGAIN IT WAS FINE BUT I SEE THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN TIL THE CAR WHILE NO LONGER BE DRIVABLE EVERYONE SAID ON HERE. SO WHY IS THIS NOT RECALLED. VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE.
SPORADICALLY UPON STARTUP I WOULD GET A POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE WARNING WITH CAR REVERTING TO MANUAL STEERING. REBOOTING THE CAR WOULD CLEAR THE FAULT. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM, THEY PULLED CODES AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED EVERY FEW WEEKS FOR THE NEXT YEAR. LAST WEEK THE FAULT REAPPEARED ACCOMPANIED BY WARNING THAT ADVANCE TRAC NEEDED SERVICING AND DID NOT CLEAR WITH REBOOTS OF THE VEHICLE. CAR WAS STILL DRIVABLE WITH MANUAL STEERING. MADE APPOINTMENT WITH JACK MADDEN FORD IN NORWOOD, MASS TO HAVE THEM REPAIR THE ISSUE ON 26 NOV 2019. I SEE THAT THIS EXACT SET OF FAILURES MATCHES RECALL #15V340000, BUT WHEN I LOOK UP MY VIN, MINE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. SOUNDS LIKE THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED.
I’ve had this car for about four years and since I’ve gotten it once in a while I will have a power steering failure where the steering wheel becomes very hard to Turn and very dangerous to drive. Are usually will turn the car on and then turn it off and turn it back on and it goes away. I’ve also have taken it to the dealership and they said they cannot do anything about it there’s no recall on it. WE'VE CHANGED ALL THE PADS AND ROTORS, BLED OUT THE LINES, REBAUILT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND EVEN BOUGHT A USED ABS PUMP. LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE ON MANUAL STEERING, LOSS OF STEERING AFTER CAR START, DIFFIFULTY SOMETIMES TURNING AND IT MAKES NOISES. VEHICLE STEERING WILL FREEZE OFTEN AND WILL GET POWER STEERING FAILURE MESSAGE WHEN IDLING. I PULLED IN MY DRIVEWAY, PARKED 2011 FORD FUSION AND THEN SHUT VEHICLE OFF. I RETURNED, STARTED VEHICLE, WENT TO START DRIVING MY VEHICLE OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR STARTED BEEPING AND LISTED THAT THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK. I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAILURE (15V340000 OR 15S18). I TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WILL ATTACH QUOTE WHICH THEIR RECOMMENDATION IS EXACTLY WHAT FORD'S RECOMMENDATION WAS. HOWEVER MY CAR DOESN'T FALL INTO THE CORRECT DATE FOR THIS RECALL, I AM HAPPY THAT I WAS NOT DRIVING 75MPH DOWN INSTERSTATE 70 IN WHEELING, WV OR DRIVING UP TO WEST LIBERTY, WV WHERE I WORK. EITHER COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT FOR ME, MY KIDS AND POTENTIALLY OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. THE CAR HAS ONLY 73,000 MILES ON IT ROUGHLY AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WOULD RANDOMLY OCCUR ON START UP. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE RESOLVED THIS UNTIL YESTERDAY IT WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT WENT OUT AT 55 MPH ON A PAVED ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND GET IT HOME. NO AMOUNTING OF RESTARTING SOLVES THIS ANYMORE. IT SEEMS A TON OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS HAPPEN AT A WIDE RANGE OF MILEAGES.

THE MANUFACTURER SAYS THE ISSUE ' AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE STEERING GEAR ' CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING. IF THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURS, THE SYSTEM DEFAULTS TO MANUAL STEERING MODE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. THE FOURTH TIME IT HAPPENED AT WORK AND VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHEEL WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT SEEMED TO RESET ITSELF.
IN THE MORNING I TURNED ON MY CAR AND THE POWER STEERING WAS SO HARD TO MOVE, STARTED GETTING ERROR MESSAGES "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "ADVANCETRAC". THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHERE I ALWAYS PARK IT ON THE CITY STREET. I CAN'T MAKE A NORMAL TURN WITHOUT BACK UP SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE A GOOD TURN. HAVE TO USE 2 HANDS TO TURN AND CURVES CAN'T MAKE IT, HAVE TO SLOW DOWN COMPLETELY. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BUT SAID IT WAS NOT FIXABLE DUE TO MILAGE.
I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND BRAKES ALL OF A SUDDEN WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THEY WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME UP ON THE DASH. HAD TO PULL OVER AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED. THIS HAD ALSO HAPPENED A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE IN A PARKING LOT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND GET VEHICLE STOPPED. I WAITED A WHILE AND WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON THE PROBLEM WAS NO LONGER THERE. WHEN IT HAPPENED THE SECOND TIME I NO LONGER FELT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE SO HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. IT WAS REPAIRED AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER ISSUE.
IN AUGUST 2016, I CRANKED MY CAR (A 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID) IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED THE SERVICE ADVANCETRAC, BRAKE FAILURE SYSTEM, AND ABS LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASH. I TRIED TO BACK OUT AND NOTCIED THE ELECTRIC BREAK WERE NOT WORKING AND THE BREAK PEDDLE WAS TO THE FLOOR AND DIFFICULT TO PRESS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALER. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND COULD NOT FIND A PROBELM. THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE PROBELM WAS RESOLVED ON ITS OWN. IN AUGUST 2019, THIS PROBELM HAPPENED AGAIN. I CRANKED THE CAR IN A PARKING LOT AND NOTICED THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS FROM 3 YEARS AGO WERE ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME, BUT THE BRAKES WERE NOT VERY RESPONSIVE AND WERE SIGNIFICIANTLY FURTHER DOWN THAN USUAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIMED THEY "RESET THE SYSTEM" AND THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE ISSUE REOCCURED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO RELSOVE THE PROBLEM. AFTER ABOUT 4 DAYS THE WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE BRAKES RETURNED TO NORMAL. ON OCTOBER 20, 2019 THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN AND THE ISSUE IS STILL OCCURING. THE CAR IS DRIVABLE, BUT IT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE. IT COULD NOT COME TO AN ABRUPT STOP IF NEEDED AND I LIVE ON A HIGHWAY WHERE PEOPLE OFTEN PULL OUT IN FRONT OF ME. IN 2009, FORD ISSUED A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM FOR FUSION HYBRIDS. IT SEEMS LATER HYBRID MODELS ALSO NEED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I HAVE READ THAT REPLACING THE BRAKES OR ABS CONTROL MODULE DOES NOT RESLOVE THE PROBELM. IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM.
INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME ON FOR A COUPLE MONTHS RANDOMLY UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF THEN BACK ON AGAIN IT CLEARED THE ERROR AND THE STERRING BECAME EASY. AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS OF THIS WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE ON THE ERROR CAME AGAIN ALONG WITH ADVANCETRAC ERROR AND THE STEERING IS GONE AND THE ERRORS CODES STAY. FORD SAID THE STEERING GEAR NEEDS REPLACEMENT AND IT'S COSTING ME $2,000 TO FIX. NOT SURE WHY IT'S NOT UNDER RECALL SINCE IT'S THE SAME ISSUE AS THE OTHERS AND IT ONLY HAS 39,000 MILES ON IT. $2,000 IS A TON OF MONEY.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,700.

I TOOK IT THE FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A REBUILT TRANSMISSION PUT IN AT A PRICE OF $5490, BECAUSE THE ONE IN IT HAD TO MANY PROBLEMS AND WOULD COST MORE TO FIX THEN THE REBUILT ONE, SO THAT'S WHAT I DID THE CAR ONLY HAD 71438 MILES ON IT.
