THE POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT . I WAS STOPPED AT A STORE , WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE OFF IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER

THE CONTACT STATED RECEIVED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V227000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT KIRK AUTO COMPANY (235 STATE HWY 7 FRONTAGE RD, GRENADA, MS 38901). THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING FUEL ONTO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTION WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER WITH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS STILL LEAKING FUEL AS THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS A CRACKED FUEL TANK THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT HAND THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 234,069.*DT*JB
ON 7/24/19 I WENT TO AUFFENBERG FORD IN TO DIAGNOSE A STEERING ISSUE. WHEN I START MY CAR THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED UP, AND THE DASH SAYS "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" THE DIAGNOSIS FROM AUFFENBERG WAS 2 INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITHIN THE STEERING GEARBOX. EXACTLY LIKE RECALL #15S18 WHICH EFFECTS 2011-2012 FORD FUSION VEHICLES WITHOUT A 3.5L ENGINE. MY ENGINE IS 2.5L FOR REFERENCE. MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. FORD CORPORATE INFORMED ME NO COMPENSATION CAN BE GIVEN FOR THE $1,963 REPAIR AND $157 DIAGNOSIS UNTIL I SUBMIT A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH NHSTA. I WAS GIVEN TWO CASE NUMBERS FROM FORD CORPORATE. ANN GAVE ME CASE #TAS22237463 AND FRANK (A SUPERVISOR) GAVE ME CASE #CAS22237463-D6F0Q5. PLEASE REVIEW ATTACHED DOCUMENTS FROM 7/24/19 AUFFENBERG FORD DIAGNOSIS AND ROBERTS FORD 7/30/19 SERVICE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS OR ANY EVENT PRIOR THAT COULD BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. I AM SEEKING $2,120 COMPENSATION FROM FORD CORPORATE FOR THE REPAIR OF THEIR FAULTY STEERING GEARBOX COMPUTER SYSTEM.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POWER ASSIST STEERING FAILURE MESSAGE AND ADVANCE TRAC SERVICE MESSAGE CAME ON WITH AN ALARM. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND DISCOVERED MANUAL ONLY STEERING AND IT WAS VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND ALMOST CRASHED. IF I HAD TO QUICKLY SWERVE TO AVOID ANYONE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED. I HAD THIS VEHICLE SERVICED WHEN I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE 15S18 RECALL AND FORD SERVICE ONLY REPROGRAMMED THE STEERING MODULE. THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE UNIT. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE BACK TO FORD SERVICE AFTER THIS INCIDENT AND THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST STEERING GEAR HAD FAILED.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN THE CAR WHILE DRVING.
THE DRIVER'S DOOR LATCH BROKE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR AND WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR WHEN THE INSIDE HANDLE IS PULLED. HUGE SAFETY RISK IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ITEM.

WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS AND MAKING A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND THE POWER ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GALPIN FORD (15505 ROSCOE BLVD, NORTH HILLS, CA 91343, (818) 787-3800) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION FRACTURED DUE TO THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.

I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVE WHEN THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING WHEEL LOST FULL FUNCTIONALITY. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER LEFT OR RIGHT WITHOUT THERE BEING A STRAIN. I WAS NEARLY 1 HOUR AWAY FROM THE NEAREST MECHANIC SHOP AND WAS FORCED TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE STEERING WHEEL'S CONTROL IN ORDER TO ARRIVE AT A MECHANIC SHOP NEAREST TO MY DESTINATION.
BRAKING FAILURE. FORD FUSION ANTI LOCK BRAKE CONTROL MODULE HAS FAILED. BRAKE MUST BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR TO STOP. VERY, VERY DANGEROUS.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE CAR'S ABS SYSTEM RANDOMLY FAILED. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK UNTIL DEPRESSED ALMOST COMPLETELY, AND NOT WELL. WHEN BROUGHT TO THE MECHANIC, COMPUTER CODE INDICATED INTERNAL ELECTRONIC FAILURE. RESEARCHING ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FUSION HYBRIDS BUT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY FORD IN A RECALL. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE INTERMITTENT AND POSSIBLY RELATED TO A SOFTWARE GLITCH.
POWER STEERING ASSIST
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE "POWER ASSIST FAULT" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE POWER STEERING ABILITY SEIZED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE STRENGTH TO TURN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEN TOWED TO BENSON FORD (4701 CALHOUN MEMORIAL HWY, EASLEY, SC 29640, (864) 855-5383), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE REQUIRED MILEAGE AND DID NOT QUALIFY FOR A RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,000.
EXCESSIVE BREAK PEDAL TRAVEL. WHEN BREAKING. PROBLEM GOES AWAY TEMPORARILY WHEN YOU TOUCH THE BREAK PEDAL ONE TIME.

THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V340000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM A LOCAL DEALER ON 05/16/2019. I NOTICED AN OCCASIONAL HESITATION WHEN I ACCELERATED SOMETIMES. CONVERSELY, IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED AHEAD WHEN I WAS BARELY ENGAGING THE ACCELERATOR. THIS ODD OCCURRENCE HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT THE MORE I'VE DRIVEN THE CAR. TO THE POINT THAT I LOOKED FOR PAPERWORK TO TAKE THE VEHICLE FOR POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION SERVICE. OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I'VE BEGUN TO HEAR OF ISSUES WITH THE FORD FOCUS AND FORD FIESTA THAT SOUND EXACTLY WHAT I'M EXPERIENCING. I USE TODAY'S DATE AS WHEN IT HAPPENED, BUT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY AS I'VE DRIVEN THE CAR.
THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME UP ON MY CAR. IT SAYS IT'S THE THROTTLE CONTROL TRANSMISSION. THE CAR GAVE NO SIGN OR WARNING ABOUT THIS CAR THROTTLE. THE CODE COMING UP IS P2111. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A INVESTIGATION GOING ON WITH MY SITUATION A FEW YEARS AGO. IS THIS A RECALL OR SOMETHING THAT CAN BE FIXED BECAUSE OF A RECALL?
FOR THE PAST 5 MONTHS, MY POWER STEERING FAULT HAS BEEN APPEARING ON MY DASHBOARD AND HAVE BEEN ASKING AROUND, THE REPAIR IS REALLY EXPENSIVE AND I AM UNEMPLOYED AND HAVE TO WAY TO FIX IT MYSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,056.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,233.
STEERING HAS RECALL FOR MY SAME MODEL YEAR AND MAKE BUT FORD SAYS MY VIN IS NOT ON THERE RECALL LIST, I HAVE HAD THE STEERING RACK REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE STEERING IS ELECTRONIC SO WHEN IT BREAKS OR FAILS THE STEERING IS EXTREMELY HARD AND CAR HAS SWERVED OUT OF CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPEN ON CITY STREETS, HIGHWAY AND IN RESIDENTIAL SETTING. MY BRAKE PEDAL IS SPONGY, SOMETIMES IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND DOESN'T STOP. DRIVING REAL SLOW THROUGH A PARKING LOT OR COMING DOWN THE ROAD TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKES HARDLY WORK.HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL SHOPS AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD MASTER CYLINDER BUT AFTER MUCH INTERNET SEARCH I FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH SAME ISSUES ABOUT A SHOP DIAGNOSED THE SAME PART AND IT GOT REPLACED AND DIDN'T FIX CAR. THE CARS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT TO BLAME AND GOING TO BE A $1500 FIX.
THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME THAT MY ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2017 AND NOT EVEN TWO YEARS LATER IT IS OUT AGAIN. I ATTEMPTED TO CALL THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND THE ACTUAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TIME TO BRING MY CAR IN AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THE STEERING IS NOT APART OF THEIR RECALLS AND WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BACK IN 2017 THAT WAS A A PART OF THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAMS AS A ONE TIME FIX . I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY 1600-1700 FOR THE PARTS WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR.
8 DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS MY CAR HAS SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND I HAD TO TRY TO STEER TO SIDE OF ROAD. STOP. START CAR AGAIN. LAST WEEKS TIME, THE 8TH TIME, WAS ON HWY 85 IN ATLANTA TRAFFIC. I WAS ACCELERATING AROUND SOMEONE THAT WAS HAVING A PROBLEM AND IT JUST WOULDN'T GO ANYMORE. I WAS SO LUCKY TO HAVE A MARTA BUS BEHIND ME THAT SLOWED. SO I COULD STOP. THEN START AGAIN AND TAKE OFF. OTHERWISE IT WOULD'VE BEEN A HUGE ACCIDENT BECAUSE SOMEONE WOULD'VE HIT ME. I'VE REPORTED THIS TO MY FORD DEALRSHIP EACH TIME. THIS LAST TIME HE SAID FORD FOCUS AND FIESTA WERE JUST RECALLED FOR SAME ISSUES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THE TRANSMISSION ON THE FORD FUSION AS WELL. THE OTHER TIMES I WAS ON TWO LANE ROADS. ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD. IT'S VERY SCARY THOUGH FOR YOUR CAR TO JUST GO INTO NEUTRAL AND YOU NOT BE ABLE TO GO ANYWHERE.

CAR CAME UP WITH "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC/SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" ERROR CODES.
LEAVING WORK WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN UNTIL I GET MY SPEED UP
MY 2011 FORD FUSION HYBRID HAD FRONT END REBUILT. THEN ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE COMPRESSED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. THIS WAS ON ORANGE AVE. ORLANDO FL. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO TROPICAL FORD AS THE BRAKE WAS FROZEN IN A COMPRESSED POSITION. MILEAGE AROUND 116,000, THEY REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT CALIPER, TURNED THE ROTOR AND REPLACED THE PADS. THEN AT 117,000 MILES THE SAME THING HAPPENED AFTER HITTING A BUMP. THE SAME BRAKE FROZE IN A COMPRESSED POSITION. THIS TIME ON TRADEPORT DR. ORLANDO, FL. HAD TO DRIVE TO SAME DEALERSHIP. NOW THEY TELL ME THAT IT IS PROBABLY THE HCU/PCM THAT NEEDS REPLACED AND IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM IN FUSIONS AND AT LEAST ONE OTHER MODEL. THEY SAID A PIN GOES BAD AND CAUSES THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE OR COMPRESS AND WILL NOT RELEASE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS I WAS ALMOST HIT DUE TO THE SUDDEN STOP AND A RECALL NEEDS TO OCCUR,. THIS MAY BE OUT OF WARRANTY BUT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING / SUPPLIER ISSUE!
POWER STEERING LOCKS AND CAR REARS TO THE RIGHT
WHILE DRIVING, AT POSTED SPEED, 40MPH ....ALL AT ONCE, THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION, A VERY ROUGH IDLE TO THE ENGINE AND A WRENCH ICON SHOWED ON THE DASH. I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO RESET AND THE WRENCH ICON DISAPPEARED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEIR COMPUTER TOOLS WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG (CODES WITH A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK). CAR SEEMED TO RUN FINE FOR APPROXIMATELY THE NEXT 500 MILES AND THEN, WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSIER ROAD AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE DID THE EXACT SAME THING, AGAIN CAUSING ME TO NEED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I, ONCE AGAIN, WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SYSTEM BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT I AM NOW LIMITED ONLY TO LOCAL TRAVEL.

THE SECOND TIME MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IT AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED COMPLETE POWER STEERING FAILURE, AGAIN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME HAD TO PAY FOR IT TO BE REPAIRED SINCE THE RECALL WAS COMPLETE ON IT. THE THIRD TIME WAS ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 70. ONCE AGAIN WE ARE HAVING TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT IT FOR A WEEK FROM NOW. COME ON ALREADY!! FORD NEEDS TO OWN THIS ISSUE BEFORE THERE IS A MAJOR LAWSUIT. FIX THESE CARS BEFORE THEY KILL SOMEONE! THIS IS EVERY YEAR AN ISSUE.

A POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DURING DRIVING AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT THAT FOLLOWED, BUT ONLY BECAUSE THE AREA WAS A STRAIGHT FLAT ROAD OUT IN THE COUNTRY. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED A POWER STEERING MODULE UNDER A RECALL AFTER I PAID $200 TO REPLACE AN ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS. HAD IT OUT OF THE SHOP LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AND THE LIGHT AGAIN CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED UNTIL IT WAS PARKED, BUT THE NEXT TIME IT WAS STARTED, THE POWER STEERING WOULD NO LONGER WORK. THE DEALER IS SAYING THE GEAR IS OUT, AND IT IS $2300 TO REPAIR. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER WHO IS A VERY INEXPERIENCED DRIVER AND AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE FOLLOWED EITHER OF THESE FAILURES. WE GOT LUCKY AND BOTH TIMES SHE WAS IN A SAFE MODE OF TRAVEL FOR SUCH A FAILURE. THE DATE LISTED BELOW IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING.
