TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 3 MPH AND CROSSING AN INTERSECTION WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BRUISED RIBS, TENDONITIS ON HER RIGHT ARM AND SHOULDER AND NECK PAIN. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE SUSTAINED A BRUISED WRIST AND PAIN TO THE LEFT KNEE AND LEG. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,100.
HAIL DAMAGE, PAINTLESS DENT REPAIR, COULD BE REASON FOR UNEXPLAINED TIRE TREAD WEAR, AND/OR KNOCKING SOUND WHEN BACKING UP AND TURNING. MY FUSION IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE ADVISE WITH ANY INFORMATION THAT MAY BE HELPFUL.
HANDLE DOESN'T RETURN FULLY TO NEUTRAL POSITION. WHEN LOCK IS ENGAGED DOOR CAN STILL BE OPENED. *TR
WHILE APPROACHING A ROLL-THROUGH TOLL BOOTH, THE CAR LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE; BOTH THE WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT ON THE EMERGENCY HAZARDS AND COASTED TO A MIDDLE ISLAND AFTER GOING THROUGH A TOLL BOOTH. THE CAR CONTINUED TO IDLE, BUT WAS NON-RESPONSIVE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER MAKING SOME CALLS FOR A TOW (1 1/2 HOUR WAIT DUE TO 100+ TEMPS), I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES. THE CAR RESTARTED AND APPEARED TO "RESET", AS BOTH THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT SYMBOLS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. AFTER TRAVELING 500 YARDS OR SO, I SWITCHED THE A/C BACK ON (NOTE: A/C WAS ON AT TIME OF MALFUNCTION.) ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THE CAR BEGAN TO BOG AND IDLE ROUGHLY, AND AGAIN LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I AGAIN WENT INTO HAZARD WARNING/COAST TO THE SHOULDER MODE, TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT AGAIN "RESET", BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON (HOPEFULLY SOMETHING WAS RECORDED, AS WITH SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS I'VE READ THIS DIDN'T OCCUR). I STARTED MY JOURNEY HOME AGAIN, THIS TIME WITHOUT A/C, AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER (DID I MENTION THAT I'M A LIFELONG GM GUY AND THIS IS MY FIRST FORD?) UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY (BROUGHT IT IN LATE ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON), WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND ACCOMPANYING MOTOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN ASKED IF THIS WAS AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM FOR A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE WITH 25,000 MILES, HE SEEMED TO INDICATE THAT THEY'RE MADE OF PLASTIC AND MASS PRODUCED, SO LIKELY AFFECTING QUALITY - NICE. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK, SO I'LL HAVE TO WAIT 'TIL MONDAY FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE COMPLETE. YOU'D THINK THE DEALERS WOULD KNOW BY NOW. SEEMS TO ME TO BE AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE FOR A RELATIVELY NEW CAR. AS HAS BEEN SUGGESTED, FORD SHOULD INVESTIGATE. *TR
MY BRAND NEW CAR, IN MY POSSESSION FOR 7 DAYS HAD TO GET TOWED TO THE SHOP. MY 11 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER AND 2 MONTH OLD NIECE WERE IN THIS CAR WHEN IT SUDDENLY STALLED AND JERKED. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND AND HAD TO PULL OVER AND DRIVE JERKING BACK AROUND THE BLOCK TO MY STARTING POINT. LUCKILY I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY AT A HIGH SPEED BUT I COULD HAVE BEEN. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AS THE ACCELERATION IS AFFECTED BY THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE PART WAS REPLACE BUT I BELIEVE THE COMPUTER CONTROLLING THE THROTTLE BODY IS DEFECTIVE NOT THE THROTTLE BODY ITSELF. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS HAZARDOUS COMPONENT AND IMPLEMENT A SOLUTION. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE AFTER CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 45 MINUTES IN 102 DEGREE OUTDOOR WEATHER HEAT. CAR OPERATED NORMALLY FOR AN HOUR BEFORE PARKING THE CAR. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, THERE WAS NO FUNCTIONING POWER STEERING ASSIST. CAR WAS DRIVABLE, AND STEERABLE WITH GREAT EFFORT. REPAIR MADE AT FORD DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY (CAR WAS 11 MONTHS OLD WITH 5140 MILES ON ODOMETER). THE ELECTRONIC ANTI-LOCK CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. SERVICE STAFF SAID THE ELECTRONIC MODULE ALSO CONTROLLED THE POWER STEERING AND ADVANCETRAK VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEMS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND LOST POWER. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE AND PULLED OVER. I ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING. I STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME OFF. DROVE AGAIN AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED WITHIN A MILE. *JS
USB PORT TABS LOOSE ON THE BEZEL. FORD REPLACED USB PORT AND BEZEL. *TR
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
STARTED THE CAR, MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT.STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY TIGHT. FOLLOWED MANUAL DIRECTIONS TO TURN OF IGNITION,RESTART AFTER 10 SECONDS,MESSAGE RETURNED. TERRIBLY FRIGHTENED. IN AN EFFORT TO GET TO SAFE LOCATION, DROVE THE CAR SLOWLY USING INCREDIBLE UPPER ARM STRENGTH TO TURN STEERING WHEEL. TOWED TO DEALER NEXT DAY..INFORMED THAT RACK AND PINION NEED REPLACING. DEFECTED FROM MANUFACTURE. JUST PURCHASED THE CAR, ITS ONLY 90 DAYS IN MY OWNERSHIP. I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR AT ALL. I HAD AN 11 MONTH OLD IN THE CAR, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON IT WAS ABLE TO REBOOT AND THE STEERING STARTED WORKING OK. ON 8/26/14 THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND WILL NOT WORK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS THE CAR IS VERY HARD TO DRIVE WITHOUT IT (IT IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN OLD CARS WITHOUT POWER STEERING). TOOK THE CARE TO GOODYEAR WHO SAID THEY DIDN'T WANT TO TRY TO FIX IT. THEN TO ELK RIVER FORD WHO EXPLAINED THE POWER STEERING GEAR NEEDED REPLACED AT A COST OF $2200. THE ELECTRONICS WENT OUT AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. THAT IS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY FOR A RELATIVELY NEW CAR THAT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. THIS STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP WITH THE EXPENSE. AFTER TALKING WITH THEM I NOTED THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS OUT ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE FORD CAN GET AWAY WITH NOT TAKING CARE OF A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS WITHOUT CHARGING THE CUSTOMER. THIS DOES NOT MEET REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS FOR WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD CAR. IF NOT CORRECTED BY FORD, THIS WILL BE THE LAST ONE I WILL EVER PURCHASE ... YOU CAN PROBABLY INCLUDE ANY FAMILY MEMBER OR ANYONE WHO'S EAR I CAN GET. *TR
STARTED MAKING NOISE THE FIRST YEAR WE HAD IT AND KEPT GETTING WORSE AS TIME WENT ON!!!!!
WHILE TRAVELING THEIR IS A LACK OF POWER, HESITATION OR SURGING... VERY SPORADICALLY... BUT ALWAYS AFTER A LONG STOP. *TR
THE HEAD RESTS/RESTRAINTS OF THIS VEHICLE PROTRUDE FORWARD IN AN UNNATURAL WAY AND FORCE A PERSON'S HEAD FORWARD IN AN UNNATURAL POSITION. THIS IS CAUSING PINCHED NERVES IN MY NECK RESULTING IN TINGLING IN MY FEET WHEN I AM DRIVING. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE, AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE (MAYBE MORE) ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE HEAD RESTS/RESTRAINTS, RESULTING IN VARIOUS PHYSICAL PROBLEMS FOR THOSE PEOPLE, INCLUDING BACKACHES, NECK ACHES, AND HEADACHES. NOT ALL FORDS HAVE THIS PROTRUDING HEAD REST, BUT A NUMBER OF THEM DO. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE FOCUS AND EDGE AS WELL. I HAVE LOOKED AT OTHER MAKES BY OTHER COMPANIES, AND THEY DON'T HAVE THESE PROTRUDING HEADRESTS/RESTRAINTS. *TT
MULTI FUNCTION SCREEN SHOWED POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION AT STOP LIGHT. VEHICLE RESTARTED AND WARNING WAS GONE AND STEERING WAS NORMAL. NEXT DAY WARNING APPEARED WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD, STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT. VEHICLE PULLED OVER, RESTARTED AND WARNING WAS GONE, NORMAL STEERING. IN ONE HOUR IT HAPPENED AGAIN, VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO LOCAL FORD DEALER, AND THE FIRST DIAGNOSIS WAS UNKNOWN AS "CODES" DID NOT INDICATE STEERING PROBLEM. TODAY THEY CALLED AND STATED THE CAR NEEDS AN ENTIRE RACK AND PINION STEERING SET REPLACEMENT. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK LOG AND NO PARTS AVAILABLE. CAR IS INOPERABLE. WORKING WITH FORD CUSTOMER CARE SOLUTIONS CENTER FOR RESOLUTION. *JS
TAKATA RECALL I WAS TOLD EARLY THIS YEAR THAT MY VEHICLE HAS UNSAFE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAGS. THIS MEANS MY CAR'S PASSENGER SAFETY IS COMPROMISED. YET NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE WITH MY CAR TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM BY FORD, OTHER THAN A PROMISE THAT SOME DAY THEY WILL PROVIDE A FREE REPLACEMENT. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR IN 2012 WITH SAFETY AIR BAG FEATURES. HOW LONG SHOULD I HAVE TO WAIT TO GET THEM?
I WENT TO MY CAR ONE RAINY MORNING TO DISCOVER THE FRONT WINDOWS WERE DOWN AND THE MOON ROOF WAS OPEN, AND THE SEATS AND FLOOR WERE SOAKING WET. I FILED A POLICE REPORT THINKING IT WAS VANDALISM. THE OPEN WINDOWS AND MOON ROOF OCCURRED AGAIN THIS PAST WEEKEND AND BETWEEN GOOGLE AND THE OWNERS MANUAL, FOUND OUT THIS IS A "FEATURE" THAT HAPPENS IF THE UNLOCK KEY IS DEPRESSED FOR A SHORT TIME, AS CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE KEY IS IN YOUR POCKET. THIS COULD GIVE ANYBODY ACCESS TO THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER WHICH WOULD PUT MY FAMILY AND HOUSE AT RISK, AS WELL AS THE CONTENTS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS FEATURE WAS NOT DISCLOSED WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND IT CAN ONLY BE DISABLED BY THE DEALER. *TT

THE CONTACT STATED WHEN HE DROVE THE VEHICLE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN AND WAS RESISTANT WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. EARLY PART OF THE YEAR (2013) THE SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT WILL COME ON AND OFF I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND HE STATED THAT IT WAS THE STABILITY IN THE VEHICLE AND ALSO IT WASN'T NOTHING TO BE ALARMED ABOUT UNLESS THE LIGHT JUST COME ON AND STAY ON . FINALLY IT CAME ON AND WOULDN'T GO OFF I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IT WOULD BE $ 240 TO REPAIR THE CAR AND I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE PARTS COME IN BY THAT TIME COME TO FIND OUT THEY WAS WILL TO PAY THE $240. I PICKED THE CAR UP THE SAME DAY WHICH WAS THE FIRST DAY THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED SAME PROBLEMS TOOK THE CAR BACK ON THAT MONDAY THEY SO CALLED FIXED THE VEHICLE IT SEEM TO BE OKAY DROVE THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 DAYS THE SAME SERVICE ADVANCTRAC LIGHT CAME BACK ON NEXT SERVICE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT 15 MINS LATER THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW LIGHT CAME ON LOST ALL POWER AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE HAD THE CAR TOWED BACKED TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CHECK THE CAR AND QUOTED ME A JOB FOR $ 2,658.12 WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FUSION, EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN ENERGY SAVER TIRES, LINE SIZE: P225-50-R17. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMALLY LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD BLOWN. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE DOT NUMBER AND THE VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
I'M HAVING SEVERAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES. MY VEHICLE "SLAMS" INTO GEAR WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE/REVERSE FROM A PARKED POSITION. THE SECOND ISSUE IS "HARD" SHIFTS IN LOW GEARS (1-4). THIS GIVES THE SENSATION OF BEING REAR ENDED. THIRDLY I AM EXPERIENCING "FLARE" SHIFTING IN GEARS 4-6. IN THIS CASE THE RPM'S REV BEFORE DUMPING INTO THE NEXT GEAR WHICH ALSO GIVES A HARD SHIFT SENSATION. THE 4TH ISSUE I AM EXPERIENCING IS A "STUTTER" WHEN ACCELERATION. IF I ATTEMPT TO PASS A CAR OR SIMPLY SPEED UP, THERE IS A HESITATION WHICH I FEEL IS A SAFETY CONCERN. LASTLY AND THE MOST DISTURBING TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS "DOWN SHIFTING". SOMETIMES WHEN I HAVE THE CAR IN CRUISE CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY AND TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-65MPH) THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTS ALL ON IT'S OWN AND I FIND MYSELF DOING 55-65 IN A LOWER GEAR WITH THE RPM'S THROUGH THE ROOF! TAPPING THE GAS AND/OR BRAKE WILL DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT STILL WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO SHIFT TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR. FINALLY AFTER COASTING FOR A WHILE IT WILL THEN SHIFT TO THE APPROPRIATE GEAR AND AS WITH ALL MY OTHER PROBLEMS, IT INVOLVES A "HARD DUMP" INTO GEAR. THESE ISSUES ARE NOT ONLY SCARY BUT I FEEL NOT SAFE AT ALL TO ME OR MY FAMILY! MY CAR IS IN MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP NOW, FOR THE 3RD TIME. THEY HAVE APPLIED UPDATES THAT HAVEN'T WORKED AND I'M BEING TOLD "FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY HOWEVER DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM". *TR
2012 FORD FUSION SEL WITH A V6 WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TERRIBLY BETWEEN ALL GEARS. EXTREMELY NOTICEABLE BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS AND 2ND AND 3RD GEARS. USUALLY ABOUT A 2-3 SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION CAN FIND THE GEAR. THE CAR HAS DOWN THIS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL. EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING WHEN YOU GO TO PASS SOMEONE AND YOUR VEHICLE DOES NOT APPEAR ABLE TO FIND THE GEAR AND MAINTAIN SPEED. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ALMOST MONTHLY SINCE MARCH OF 2012 AND THE DEALER STATES THAT FORD SAID THAT IS JUST HOW THE VEHICLE SHIFTS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS VERY UNRESPONSIVE ABOUT MY CONCERNS. I HAVE A 2005 MALIBU WITH 150,000 MILES ON IT THAT SHIFTS BETTER THAN THE FUSION. *TR
WHILE MERGING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY IT BECAME NECESSARY TO SLOW DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND THEN TO SPEED UP TO ACHIEVE THE 55 MPH TRAVELING SPEED OF TRAFFIC THAT I WAS MERGING WITH, THE CAR HESITATED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AND THEN "CLUNKED" INTO GEAR AND SPED UP WITH OVERDRIVE ENGAGED. THE TRAFFIC BEHIND AND NEXT TO ME WAS CONTINUING AT THE SPEEDS THEY WERE TRAVELING AT CAUSING A POTENTIAL COLLISION. THIS CONTINUES EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD MY DEALER CHECK OUT THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WHEN MY CAR HAS TO DOWNSHIFT AND THEN IMMEDIATELY UPSHIFT TO ATTAIN SPEED QUICKLY AS WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLOWS PRIOR TO MERGING WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED A COLLISION THREE TIMES AS A RESULT OF THIS HESITATION.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER THE FAILURE AND THE THROTTLE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE THROTTLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPDATED 05/31/12*LJ

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, SHE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT ACCELERATE, PUTTING HER IN SUBSTANTIAL DANGER ON THE FREEWAY. ON JANUARY 2ND, 2012 ON 2-SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE ENGINE ACCELERATED TO ALMOST 6000 RPM WHILE I WAS STOPPED OR NEARLY STOPPED WHILE PARKING THE CAR. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND I HAD MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE ENGINE ACCELERATION HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY AND ON THE SECOND INCIDENT THE BRAKES WERE NOT HOLDING THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRANS INTO NEUTRAL UNTIL THE ACCELERATION DIED DOWN TO THE NORMAL RPM. ON THE SECOND OCCASION I SHUT THE IGNITION OFF 2-TIMES BEFORE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH PRIOR CARS AND THE MANUFACTURERS HAVE HAD NO SYSTEM IN PLACE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND BECAUSE IT IS A RANDOM EVENT IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLICATE. VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IN LOW-SPEED (PRIMARILY ACCELERATION FOLLOWING ANY PERIOD OF COASTING) SCENARIOS AND REQUIRED ADDITIONAL FOLLOWING DISTANCE TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS. VEHICLE BECAME MUST HARSHER ON THE 1-2 SHIFT IN COLD WEATHER. BY 8000-9000MI, VEHICLE DEVELOPED SLIPPING. THIS WAS PARTICULARLY EVIDENT AT LOWER SPEEDS FROM 2-3, SUCH AS AT A ROLLING YIELD BELOW 10MPH. VEHICLE WOULD MOMENTARILY LOSE ALMOST ALL POWER DURING CERTAIN 2-3 SHIFTS, REQUIRING ACCELERATION PLANNING FOR INTERSECTIONS, TO PREVENT SLUGGISHNESS AT AN INOPPORTUNE TIME. TSB 12-3-7 WAS APPLIED AND RESULTED IN ADDITIONAL SLIPPAGE IN HIGHER GEARS, SUCH THAT CLIMBING AN ONRAMP FOLLOWING A 3-4 SHIFT WAS CHALLENGING, AND CLIMBING A HILL AT LOW SPEEDS DURING A 2-3 SHIFT RESULTED IN A LOSS OF ALL FORWARD MOMENTUM. *TR
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN TORRANCE CA AT 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO BUCK AND JERK AND SLOWED TO ABOUT 30 MPH. IT WOULD NOT TAKE ANY MORE POWER OR ACCELERATION. I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO EXIT AND PARK AND I THEN NOTED THE TEMP GAUGE SHOWED HOT ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE DID NOT APPEAR HOT. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY TEMP SENSOR THAT SHOWED THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND CAUSIG THE ENGINE TO GO INTO THE PARTIAL SHUT-DOWN MODE. THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN ENOUGH THAT FORD HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THE PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER IF I HAD STILL BEEN IN THE LEFT OR DIAMOND LANE SO THERE SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURER RECALL TO HAVE THESE PARTS CHECKED OUT. APPARENTLY SOME ARE CORRODED. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70.

MY NEW 2012 FUSION'S 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, UNDER MEDIUM ACCELERATION, HESITATES FROM 1ST TO 2ND, AND HESITATES & OVER-REVS FROM 2ND TO 3RD UNTIL THE CAR HAS WARMED UP (DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES). I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY EACH TIME THEY APPLIED THE SOFTWARE UPDATE, BUT DON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THE HESITATION AND FLAIR FROM 1-2 AND 2-3 IS AS BAD AS EVER. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO CHANGE LANES AND TURN ONTO OFF-RAMP. PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF IGNITION, RESTARTED CAR AND FAULT WENT AWAY AND POWER STEERING WORKED AGAIN. IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC AND INTO A SAFE AREA; I COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL. WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR THE CAR WILL VERY ROUGHLY GO INTO GEAR, AND SECOND TO THIRD AND THIRD TO FOURTH IS NOT MUCH BETTER. FROM FOURTH TO FIFTH AND FIFTH TO SIXTH IS FINE MOST OF THE TIME. I HAD TWO CALIBRATION UPDATES PERFORMED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND WAS TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR AND LET THE UPDATE SET IN. AFTER BOTH TIMES I NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM DID NOT GO AWAY, INSTEAD AFTER THE LAST UPDATE THE ISSUE PROGRESSED. I HAVE PLEADED WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO TRADE MY CAR FOR ANOTHER FUSION (SAME VALUE) AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EQUITY. INSTEAD I WAS TOLD I COULD GET A FORD FOCUS AND HOW EVER MUCH I AM "UPSIDE DOWN" THEY WOULD ROLL IT OVER TO THE PRICE OF THE FOCUS. I TOLD THEM THAT WASN'T FAIR AND THAT I WANTED ANOTHER FUSION THAT DID NOT HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD THAT PLANET FORD COULD NOT HELP ME AND I SHOULD GET ANOTHER OPINION IF I WAS UNHAPPY. SO I WENT TO ANDERSON FORD AND HAD THE MECHANICS RUN DIAGNOSTICS ON IT TO SEE IF THEY COULD IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. WHILE ANDERSON FORD WAS DIAGNOSING MY CAR I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL FUSION THAT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN MY CAR AS FAR AS SHIFTING. I ALSO WAS SPEAKING WITH FORD CUSTOMER CARE ABOUT MY ISSUE AND WENDY (CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER) TOLD ME THAT IF ANDERSON FORD DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG I WAS GOING TO BE STUCK WITH THAT CAR. ANDERSON FORD REPORTED THAT NO WARNING CODES COULD BE FOUND AND THE CAR WAS FINE. I TOLD THEM THE DIFFERENCE I NOTICED IN DRIVING THE RENTAL FUSION AND MY FUSION AND THE SERVICE MANAGER DISREGARDED IT. I WAS GIVEN MY CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD IF I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH IT I NEEDED TO TRADE IT IN AND DEAL WITH THE NEGATIVE EQUITY. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL DEALERS ABOUT DIFFERENT CARS AND I AM UNABLE TO TRADE MY CAR IN BECAUSE I HAVE TOO MUCH NEGATIVE EQUITY. I PURCHASED A NEW FOCUS. I DROVE IT FOR TWO WEEKS. THE TRANSMISSION IS OF A POOR DESIGN, I FRANKLY REFUSE TO DRIVE IT. IT NEARLY CRASHED THROUGH MY BARN. I WAS SIMPLY BACKING IT IN WHEN IT DECIDED TO LURCH HARD. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. LUCKILY IT DID STOP. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THE CAR DID NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY AT ALL.. SEEMINGLY ENDLESS CLUTCH CHATTER, SLIPPAGE, UNPREDICTABLE SHIFTING,ITS IS A HORRID CAR TO DRIVE. I WAS NOTICING THE SMELL OF CLUTCH. I HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. I DO NOT WANT IT BACK. I DO NOT KNOW WHY FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD PUT TO MARKET A HORRIBLE DANGEROUS ERRATIC TRANSMISSION INTO PARKING SPACES IS A PURE ADRENALINE RUSH. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT MIGHT DO. POWER STEERING SERVICE TRACK LIGHT CAME ON DURING CAR START UP AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED AND THE SERVICE LIGHT WENT OFF. I LOOKED TO CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND FOUND THE SYSTEM IS ELECTRONIC. THIS PROBLEM REPEATED ABOUT EVERY 2 WEEKS DURING STARTUP AND WAS RESOLVED SIMILARLY. ON AUGUST 23, 2013 THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN BUT RESTARTING DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NO OTHER PROBLEMS OTHER THAN LOW AIR PRESSURE SERVICE LIGHT. *JB
