Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was slightly stalling as the check engine light was illuminated. The contact also stated that she needed to refill the antifreeze more frequently. A personal diagnostic reader was used and the failure code for a cylinder misfire was retrieved. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer where they confirmed that there was no recall under the VIN. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
The car stalls on idle repently and check engine light won't turn on, so there no error codes. But apparently it's a fuel pressure sensor.
While in motion, the trunk of this vehicle pops open randomly roughly once a week. It completely unlatches while the vehicle is locked and gives an alert that the trunk is open.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 40-50 MPH, the warning message "Vehicle Overheating" was displayed. The contact veered to the side of the road to allow the vehicle to cool down and the continued driving; however, the failure reoccurred several times while driving. Upon arriving at her residence and parking the vehicle, the contact noticed that there was no coolant in the coolant reservoir. The contact refilled coolant reservoir: however, upon attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine short block needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown recall as the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic who provided the same diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she experienced a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not drivable. The driver towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the transmission linkage needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear shifter inadvertently shifted to neutral(N) due to a detached gear shifter cable. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was 111,966.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated when he tried to shift the vehicle into drive it failed and it would stay in Park gear. The contact opened the hood of the vehicle and noticed that the bushing detached from the transmission. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home where he was able to get a temporary repair on the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were contacted and both of them stated that the vehicle was not under NHTSA Campaign Number:19V362000(POWER TRAIN) and that he would have to pay for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1306
Coolant leaked into the engine. Caused engine to overheat
While driving all the coolant drains into the engine causing the engine to over heat. I have read many reviews about this same issue. While driving this happened to me and I had to pull over VERY quickly on a dual lane highway (very unsafe)! Almost got hit by a semi in the process of having to pull over twice! Contacted Ford many times and they stated this is not a recall and all expenses would have to be paid out of pocket! VERY UNHAPPY CONSUMER!
235/50 R 17. Seriously horrible groove wandering to the point that I feel extremely unsafe to drive. I'm guessing it's all four tires but, I'm only allowed to pick one. It happened the first day after purchasing the vehicle on 5/24/22. I put more money down on the car because the tires were fairly new. Now they have to be replaced because they are dangerous. They must be recalled!
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked and turned off, she attempted to start the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to start. A warning message indicating that the vehicle was not in park(P) illuminated. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle successfully, she attempted to shift into gear, but the gear shifter remained stuck in park(P). The vehicle then started reversing. A bystander assisted the contact with stopping the vehicle by engaging the parking brake. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the contact was informed that the shift link cable had fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V362000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 98,800.
Lug nuts swollen and were unable to be removed.
Went in for a oil change and tire rotation service writer came to tell me lug nuts were distorted and needed to be replaced. He also informed me that Ford was aware of this and they change a lot of lug nuts during the week. There should be a recall if it is a safety hazard. There are no warning lights to tell you you lug nuts are distorted and could cause a safety hazard. When you go in for routine maintenance it is a problem when they can't get the tires off your car because of defective lug nuts.
Car is in park but the dash is showing the car is still in drive. Unable to move shifter at all.
While driving the drivers door came open. This happened to the passenger door about 10 months ago. I check and there is a recall for the safety latch on other 2016 Ford Fusions but not for my vin #. There was no warning it just flew open while making a right turn.
My 2016 Ford Fusion with a 2.0 EcoBoost engine began experiencing a misfire in cylinder 4. I took the vehicle to a Ford Service Center for a diagnosis, and they said that the cause is coolant intrusion into the cylinder, and the only fix is replacing the engine. I still own the vehicle and it is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others are put at risk because, in the event of an unexpected total engine failure, I could lose power causing me to be stranded, power steering function, ABS function, etc. There is currently an ongoing class-action lawsuit titled Miller, et al. v. Ford Motor Company, so others have also experienced this issue. The vehicle engine has been inspected and diagnosed by a Ford Service Center. They stated that a faulty design makes the engines susceptible to coolant intrusion. There were no warnings about the failure before the misfire started occurring.
Gear bushing issue not included in 2016 Ford Fusion Recall in 2019. Car was in a hand wash car was when the bushing broke and rolled into reverse. The car was turned off and then would not start because the gear shifter would not allow the car to go into park even though the shifter appeared to be in Park.
Complete engine failure and extreme overheating from a known block issue at Ford. My car is essentially totaled needing a new engine due to known faulty engine blocks in the 1.5 and 2.0 liter motors from 2013-17. Overheating caused engine to stall on the interstate nearly causing several accidents. Once restarted we got home and was afraid the engine was going to catch fire until cool. Rolled vehicle outside. Ford should be ashamed that they only released a safety/service bulletin and not a recall. Now we are without a needed vehicle unless we can replace the engine at a cost of $5500 to $7500. Who has $7k laying around to fix a known issue to Ford?
The power steering goes out randomly, mostly when it is hot outside or on the interior. It is not included in the current recall for this issue, however it needs to be. It happened in 2021 and now is still happening in 2022. No issues prior to the failure until power steering alert goes off. I have almost crashed multiple times due to this failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that upon the start of the vehicle, he attempted to shift the vehicle out of park(P) into drive(D); however, the gear shifter seized in the neutral(N). No warning lights were illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence due to the failure. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer had been notified of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer had been notified of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
This recall should apply to my VIN but the dealer say it does not. NHTSA ID: 19V362 My car did exactly this issue thought I had put the vehicle in Park by the shifter but when I went to get out of the vehicle it started to roll away. I have found this part in the recall notice is what the problem but they won't replace it. So now I have a unsafe vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle decelerated to 10 MPH independently and emitted abnormal sounds. There was no warning light illuminated. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure reoccurred while driving that same day. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts and turned the hazards lights on as she was in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed to a used car dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were recalls associated to the failure; however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Placed car in park and turned if off. When I took my foot off the brake it started rolling away. The vehicle would not start saying it was not in park.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine revved while the vehicle hesitated during acceleration. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
My car began overheating and immediately would run fine. After researching what was going on I took my car to Herring Ford in Picayune, MS. They stated to me that the motor would have to be replaced due to a leak from the coolant, but that I could safely drive the car if I kept the coolant level full. After more research I found that year models 2013-2015 were recalled for the same issue. I purchased my 2016 Ford Fusion in December of 2015. I am requesting that my car be added to the recall due to the same defect and that I am reimbursed the full price I paid to have my car repaired. No warning lights appeared unless the coolant level was low. I filled the car with coolant daily to keep it from running hot. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk due to having to stop on the side of the highway when my car would run hot. This was an almost daily occurrence.
Backup camera inverts and blanks out. Other ford vehicles have this issue and have recall notices. 2016 Ford Fusions do not have this recall.
AdvanceTrac System Malfunctioning 3 times while driving the AdvanceTrac system has malfunctioned while turning. Each incident, the Service AdvanceTrac light has come on mid turn, causing steering wheel to feel tight, not sure turn able in the moment, everything happens in a second or two. Two of the 3 incidents of AdvanceTrac abruptly disabling itself resulted in close calls with me almost not completing my turn safely and coming close to colliding with other vehicles on the roadway. Hill Assist and AdvanceTrac turn off causing multiple dash lights and warnings. I took the car today to Ed Morse Ford, Lebanon MO for diagnosis. I was told by the service department that because I had turned the car off, no error code could be scanned on the AdvanceTrac. In addition, a mechanic drove the vehicle and could not duplicate the issue. Service department indicated the "probable cause" was a steering assembly needed to be replaced at the cost of $2700. No explanation of how the mechanic made this determination without being able to duplicate the issue. I was told the AdvanceTrak system is not connected to the check engine system (the system that does store codes and errors) so there was nothing they could verify without duplication, yet again, wanted $2700 for a major component switch out. AdvanceTrak is Ford's proprietary property, yet is has no consumer safe guards to monitor any system defects- completely unacceptable and unsafe.
Power steering suddenly failed during left turn at low speed. "Steering Assist Fault", "Service AdvanceTrac" warnings as well as hill decent Dash has the two Stability Control Lights illuminated. There is no check engine light
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked while raining, the trunk would become wet. The contact stated that the spare tire wheel well would fill up with six inches of water. The contact stated that there was a computer located in the trunk by the passenger’s side fender under the padding. The contact stated that there was possibility of a short circuit due to water entering into the circuitry. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
Engine is leaking coolant into the second cylinder and Ford did a full tube up and did not resolve the issue but is now saying the only course of resolution is a $10,000 engine replacement. The car randomly loses power and may cut off and is a hazard to drive on highways as the power will suddenly be cut. I’ve gone online to see numerous complaints and even the Ford dealer advised this is a common issue but refuse to offer any solution or work with me as I’ve only had the car less than 2 years as the owner but am now being told what they believed to be bad spark plugs is an engine cylinder filling with coolant and they are unwilling to do any repair knowing the engine quality is as bad to begin with and opting to replace the engine for quite and expensive cost that essentially is comparable to going and buying a used car for an issue that is apparently common for their ecoboost engines.
Bad coolant leak into cylinders from inadequate head gasket causing performance issues and needing major repairs. Engine was pressure tested and failed with loss of 5psi in 10 minutes.
seatbelt and airbag lights won’t go off, constantly dinging. code reader says there’s an issue with my restraint system
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while parked in a parking lot, the latch inside the door failed to latch securely and the door failed to close as needed. The contact drove to a local mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed with a faulty interior door latch. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,540.
I was driving on the highway and as I was making a turn on an off-ramp, my passenger side door swung open and almost hit a person on a bike. I immediately pulled over to check on the young man. As I tried to secure the door, it appears the door will not latch and secure itself. The door was latched and secured. I had no warning lights or notifications. The door latch just gave way and stopped working.
Rear camera keeps failing. Generic problem for many ford drivers. Bad grounding wire
Hello, I was driving towards the hotel I was staying at when I heard some squeaky noises when I was turning my car (this was at night). The next day, I was leaving the parking garage, about to drive onto a main road when my power steering went. I got the car towed to the auto dealership and it turns out that there are three recalls out on my car. One of which has to do with the steering bolts becoming corroded and the steering gear detaching and the the power steering going as a result. Yet the dealership is saying that the bolts are not corded so it is an internal issue. My car only has 66k miles on it … for the power steering to go while you are driving is very scary. It seems like this is a common issue and Ford is avoiding the issue with the steering gear by blaming it on just the bolts to the steering gear. The codes that the dealer said were being thrown are as follows: u0420:00 u0420:86 C102d
Driver front seat belt locks into position making it difficult to pull out. It also gets locked once the seatbelt is in place. This is an ongoing problem and happens whether the vehicle is on or off.
My vehicle is currently overheating. As I started checking and inspecting my car I noticed leaks into my cylinders. I went online and notices many forms of discussion as Ford owners requesting a class action to resolve this issue. This can be very expensive as I may have to repair my motor.
While driving to get into an Interstate Highway, the car key was tapped and suddenly the car engine shut off, panel blacked out and showed a message “ Transmission not in park”. Tried to accelerate and was not able since car was already moving I had enough acceleration to pull over if not probably i would cause an accident.
Car lost power and just cut off right on Railroad Tracks, managed to get it restarted, called dealership in my area, took it in. They stated their computer wasn't finding anything. After a heated discussion, I finally got the head mechanic to drive it and it did the same thing to him. He said new fuel pump, so it costs me $810.00, labor included, which I thought was rape. Just a ridiculous charge, but hey I'm at the mercy of them!!! Three (3) weeks later same thing happening, just cuts off, leaving me on highway at night. Took it back, they put another fuel pump on, no charge. Week and half later, Key Fob doesn't unlock doors, even after putting a new battery in. Tire Pressure FAULT came on and car continued to cut off, again leaving me in a very dangerous situation, but I GOT LUCKY. I took it back to the dealership and told them the Liability is on them. The Car is DANGEROUS and UNPREDICTABLE, "I do not feel safe in it" and they need to keep it until they can determine what is wrong and STOP playing a guessing game. I have read over 788 complaints about this vehicle and the same things are happening to other people. I will proceed with Attorney's, News Media and Insurance Companies if this is not rectified. THE CAR IS A DEATHTRAP!!!
At a fuel stop I put shifter into park and turned off engine. When refueling was completed car would not come out of park. Dash shift indicator showed car was in neutral. Car was towed to local Ford dealer where inspection showed shifter cable had detached from transmission. The Ford dealer service department repaired the issue by replacing shift cable bushing (part number DG9Z*7K340*A) and cap (part number DG9Z*7S004*A). It is unknown if the replaced parts are available for inspection since I do not know if the service department retained them. It is unknown if components have been inspected by others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. After researching this problem this appears to be the same issue that prompted a recall of the 2016 Ford Fusion with 2.5L engine.
Driver side safety door lock latch gave out and door does not close to lock. Door opened in the middle of traffic. Used a rope to tie door closed in inside but door ajar light comes on still. Will not lock closed. They have recalls on this same problem just not my vehicle even though it’s the same part. Safety Rear left cross traffic sensor just gave out and flashes code on dash now. Will not sense vehicle approaching on drivers side now as well.
steering wheel attachment bolt came loose
We have a 2016 Ford Fusion. We’ve already had major engine work done on it by the dealership about 2 years ago. Then about a year later, the transmission wouldn’t go into gear. We took it in to have looked at and they said that the bushings failed and the shifter cable detached from the transmission. They charged us 184.00 and sent us on our way. They failed to tell us that this can damage the transmission cause now a year later they are telling me I need a new transmission on a 2016 Ford Fusion. This is the 2nd Ford Fusion I’ve had that had a transmission go early. I’ve also had a F-150 with Transmission problems. I was assured that they fixed the problems from the older years when I purchased this new from The dealer. The Ford Fusion has had a recall on the shifter cable and knew that it was going to cause problems down the road and didn’t say anything. I shouldn’t have to pay 6,000 dollars for a new transmission when they knew this was going to happen after the shifter cable disengaged from the transmission
I had a brake hose blow out to the right front caliper causing failure of the brake system. Luckily I was driving in a parking lot at low speed so no injuries or damages occurred but this can cause serious injuries or death if the circumstances had been different. As a professional mechanic I have not seen brake hoses fail this quickly, the car is only 6 years old and has been well maintained. There were no signs of damage to the hose. I'm reporting this in case this is possibly a defective part which would put other drivers at risk.
Purge valve, fuel filler neck/vacuum neck and air grill issues - check engine lights on for engine and inject issues.
Took car in for service. The technician said my lug nuts are swollen. Wanted $180.00 to replace. Ford service technician said it was due to Ford using a 2 peice lug nut.
I had a check engine light appear on the dash. I took the vehicle to AutoZone to have the warning read. The reading came back as a misfiring spark plug. I had an appointment to get the spark plugs changed during my next oil change. A few days after I had the engine light read, the check engine light turned off. It was off for 1-2 days and then came back on. A few days later, while I was driving, I had a warning light that the vehicle was overheating. I pulled over and checked the coolant and the reservoir was empty. There were no signs of leaking coolant (externally). I let the vehicle cool and added coolant. At this point, I tried to start the vehicle and the vehicle wouldn't start. I had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic to have it looked at. They indicated that the coolant was leaking into the engine and recommended having the vehicle towed to Ford for a detailed diagnosis. Ford diagnosed the vehicle and indicated that the engine needed to be replaced. All within a span of 10 days.
Shift cable broke. clip broke and end of cable.
On February 20, 2022 I was driving down a busy road when my car out of nowhere just started jerking and would not accelerate. I was stuck in the middle of the road while cars had to slam on breaks and go around me. My car would not move. I had to then turn my car off and restart it in order to get it to a parking lot for safety. I didn't have, and still don't have any warning lights on the dashboard that indicated anything was wrong or going on with my vehicle. I had to have it towed to my mechanic who confirmed my transmission was "shot". It was done. I have always kept up on maintenance and oil changes on my car.
