The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted, but failed to shift into drive. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the torque converter. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V427000 (Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 84,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The warning light turned off after refueling the vehicle with fuel. The failure persisted and had gotten worse with the check engine warning light remaining illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic and the fuel pump was replaced. The check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was returned to the certified mechanic who stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
My 2017 Ford Fusion , with 58,228 miles on it has a bad engine, which is a known issue, yet not a recall. My engine overheated as I was driving on the expressway. I called Ford, case # CAS040244200, but my powertrain warranty expired 7/22 . Please read what has happened to others while their engine overheats while driving a 2017 Ford Fusion when coolant gets into the cylinder (in my case it's cylinder #3). Also Ford was aware of this issue...TSB# 19-2208, but has yet to place a recall
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while attempting to shift into gear, the gear shifter seized, and required to be manually hit to shift into the desired gear. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The message to "See Owner’s Manual" was displayed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that the power train fault warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 65,689.
The shift cable bushing, which was covered on other Ford vehicles in a recall issued on 15 June 2022, failed on my 2017 Fusion. This occurred while in a parking lot. The car would not start as it was stuck in reverse. I had the issue repaired at a Ford dealer and it cost me $351. This is a known defect yet it would seem as though the scope of the recall was too narrow. Fortunately, the car did not roll away, however, it was a very busy lot and I was stranded in the middle of it until a tow truck could remove it.
The Shifter Cable Bushing disintegrated on my 2017 Ford Fusion, causing it to not shift into drive while parking my car. This did not result in damage or an accident, but the car was stuck in gear, and I could not move the car. I was told there is no recall for my car on this, but there is on others. I had to get it repaired at my own cost. The issue could cause more problems with similar cars like mine. A warning on my dash told me there was a problem with the shifter mechanism and that the car wasn't in gear. If the car had been in neutral at the time of the problem, it could have rolled away, with me thinking that the car was in park.
Car wouldn’t shift to park!
On 12/08/2022, my 2017 Ford Fusion started as normal in a busy parking lot, but once I idled/moved just a little, it became locked as if the emergency brake was on (it was not) and would not shift out of park, regardless of trying to put in neutral, reverse, etc. (It would show N or R on the dash, but remained deadlocked in Park.) There was this error message: "SHIFT SYS FAULT Service Required." It took several people to push the car to a safe area out of the way of traffic. Had to have the car towed at owner's expense to the closest Ford dealership. There were not other messages or signs of the problem prior to this failure on 12/08/2022. Ford dealer on 12/10/2022 removed and replaced transmission shifter cable bushing and installed cap. Ford dealer agreed that most certainly, this 2017 Ford Fusion has the EXACT same recall #22s43 that other 2017 Fusions have had. However, when Ford dealer entered this vehicle VIN, nothing showed up in OASIS. So I had to pay for this repair out of pocket. Like others have stated, the Ford recall #22s43 is too narrow in scope. So why in the world am I having to pay 100% of the cost to fix the EXACT SAME bushing/cap issue (recall 22s43) that others are having with the EXACT SAME YEAR, MAKE, & MODEL?!?! Just because my VIN wasn't included in Ford's original recall? DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! If it's the same issue as the other vehicles are having (of the same year, make, model) why am I paying for the error and they aren't?
When putting my car in park, I received a warning "SHIFT SYS FAULT" Confirm Park Brake Apply Before Exiting the Vehicle. My parking brake was never on. When I got back in my vehicle, my gear shift would not let me take put my vehicle into gear. I googled and found it was the gear shift bushing and there was a recall on this part. I was able to take my vehicle to the repair shop and told them there was a recall. They informed me the recall was not for my vehicle because the recall was for automatic transmissions on 2016 and before. How can this exact same part be a recall on an automatic vehicle, but not on an electronic "dial" gear shift?
The transmission shifting cable bushing has gone bad. My car will not shift into park it’s stuck in neutral. Ford tried transferring but couldn’t. I was instructed to file report online. I have a case number for assistance for repairs.
Seat back broke in a collision.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she was able to drive the vehicle to her residence and later had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2 and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: 22-2134 which expired on November 30, 2022, and the contact experienced the failure on December 1, 2022. The contact stated that the dealer and the manufacturer denied the repair because the TSB had expired. The approximate failure mileage was 107,300.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the gear shifter failed to operate as needed and the contact was unable to shift into the intended gear. The message to “See Owner’s Manual” was displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the shifter cable bushing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Purchased vehicle used from a state agency, transmission lurches, won’t go into gears, stays in neutral then launches into gear. Can put transmission into drive but the car won’t move for several seconds, will go into drive without warning.
I got in my 2017 Fusion SE to leave my house. As I started out of my driveway, I noticed that the steering was hard and I had a " Steering Assist Fault, Service Required" lamp on. I did not drive the car that day. The car drove fine the day before. I called my local mechanic to take my car into the shop to have him check the vehicle. As I drove the vehicle to the shop, I noticed that it was very hard to steer and the steering made a grinding noise. The shop called later and advised that the rack and pinion sensor was bad and needed replacing. The shop advised that the only way to repair it was to replace the rack and pinion. My mechanic advised that he has seen this problem with other 2017 Ford Fusions. The shop advised that the cost would be $3000.00. I was shocked at the cost, but I authorized the repair. The mileage on the vehicle was 39,650. I am just thankful that I was not driving the car on the road at the time that this went bad. There was no warning with this. I did look on this web sight and found that this is not an uncommon problem with the 2017 Fusions. I believe that because the sensor cannot be replaced on its own, that Ford should fix this dangerous problem and do a recall. How long until this happens a second time? Should I sell this vehicle before it happens again? I just hope I am not driving the next time the sensor goes out.
the bushing in the shift cable completely degraded. It is is the exact same thing that happened in recall 22S43. ford dealership is not willing to fix without recall notice due to my car being a 2017 and not 2013-2016. Please advise if this model year will get added to the notice. thank you!
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the coolant level was low, and the engine was overheating. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was intermittently illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the engine was misfiring. The contact was referred to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the coolant was leaking into the cylinders and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000.
When shifting from reverse to drive, my car would not shift and instead forced my shifting knob into the park position. The issue was the exact same as the ford 22S43 recall, where the shifting bushing wears out, however the 2017 Fusion is not included in that recall, despite still having the same bushing. I was forced into park and upon inspection, saw that the shifting solenoid was detached from the transmission. If this happened on a busy street, I would have had a car dead in the middle of the road, possibly causing an accident. Luckily I was not. I bought the new bushing, DG9Z-7K340-A, online and fixed it myself, not knowing about the cap that goes with it, so I will not be able to reproduce the issue. I believe I still have the defective bushing and could show it to someone if needed, but no one has looked at it. My car gave a specific warning (can't recall the details) that, when googled, lead me to videos of the exact issue. I believe it happened once before, but somehow after shifting it in park and back into drive, it went away. that was about a week before the full failure. My main concern is that the 22S43 recall does not include enough vehicles for that issue.
Coolant levels low, coolant leaking into the engine. Check engine light on and ODBC reader says cylinder misfire.
This is the second issue within a year time period that this vehicle experienced a loss of brake pedal pressure, it was sent to the repair facility to be inspected. Upon inspection it was noted that the brake master cylinder reservoir was empty and the left front brake flex hose was split. The left and right front brake flex hose had to be replaced, the system filled back up with brake fluid and the entire brake system was bleed to restore proper brake operation. The first time was on 10-22-2021 (28,559 Miles) the second time the above issued was experienced was on 11-03-2022 (32,721 miles) where that same parts had to be replaced, both the right and left front brake flex hoses.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, she was unable to shift gears. The contact stated the shift system fault warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to her residence. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Engine coolant leaking into cylinder #3. Check engine light on and code says engine misfire. Coolant very low and if I had not caught it would have eventually blown up the engine possibility causing a catastrophic accident. After research and talking to the dealer this is a very common problem in the Ford EcoBoost 1.5 and 2.0 engines with as little as 10,000 miles! White smoke pours out of the exhaust on startup each morning with the smell of burnt coolant in the air.
A bushing attaching the shift cable to the transmission is plastic and failed preventing the shifter from moving into Drive or Reverse. This is a known Ford recall for the "shifter cable bushing" on almost 3 million Ford Fusions, but dealership stated that my Ford Fusion does not fall into the recall. Dealer charged $588.99 to repair a known Ford defective part that cost $3.68.
The problem is in the gear shifting. The problem is the same problem many others are having on 2017, but are not included in the recall. The recall is Fords number for this recall is 18S08. Several hundreds have filed a complaint but Ford will not expand the recall to include the 2017. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed by Ford and NHTSA. The current recall effected 650,000 cars but not the 2017 Ford Fusion.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and shifting into drive(D), the gear shifter flashed three times and immediately shifted back into park(P) and independently engaged the parking brake. The contact stated that the "SHIFT SYS FAULT Service Required" message appeared on the instrument panel. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 154,000.
Driving straight and the steering locked up causing the car to veer to the left and was not allowing her not to be able to turn the car. My 19 year old daughter ended up hitting a fence and totaling the car.
The vehicle experienced a loss of brake pedal pressure, it was sent to the repair facility to be inspected. Upon inspection it was noted that the brake master cylinder reservoir was empty and the right front brake flex hose was split. The right front brake flex hose had to be replaced, the system filled back up with brake fluid and the entire brake system was bleed to restore proper brake operation
Component: Coolant leaking into motor. It is available for inspection upon request. This is the second motor ford has put in my vehicle with same issue. Both times the vehicle broke down in transit causing us to be a hazard to surrounding traffic and leaving us on the side of the road. Problem has happened in to motors in same vehicle. Both motor malfunctions verified by service centers. First motor was replaced at no cost to us by Ford Motor Company (FMC). They indicated they knew there was an issue with the motor and replaced it; however it took us 4 calls to FMC to get this acknowledgement and assistance. The first three times we called we were told that there was no known issue and it was our problem. Now that the replacement motor is doing the same thing, approximately 2 years/ 50,000 miles later we are in the same situation. Current calls to FMC indicate it is our problem even though the replacement motor is under warranty. Problem has been inspected by Ford dealership service center in addition to a private certified service center, AAA Auto Group. Check engine light appeared both times at the time of breakdown, not any period of time before. All of our documentation is sitting with the vehicle at a Ford dealership at the moment. If this is an issue we can continue wiht NHTSA we will get the service records uploaded ASAP.

While shifting from reverse to drive, car shifted back to park and activated parking brake. Unable to move car forward and needed to be towed to dealership for repair. The 2013-16 Ford Fusions are included in recall on bushing failure, however, my 2017 Fusion is not included. However, clearly this is an issue with millions of Ford vehicles and recall should be expanded. Shift system fault notification appeared after this incident. Ford of Murfreesboro inspected the vehicle and repaired the failed bushing at the transmission selector.
As I was driving my check engine light came on and my car started to jerk. I had some previous issues with my AC and radio delays. I took the car to the dealer and he said my PCM was missing a ground and if I continued to drive it the engine could catch fire. The car is only 5 years old. He says they have seen this a lot in these cars.

I was driving home from work stopped at a red light on a hill.. the light turned green i went to proceed but my car had no power and didnt want to go.. i go it to go very slowly up the hill into a parking lot.. then the wrench light came on which is for the powertrain malfunction.. theyve recalled my car once before for the Power train: Automatic transmission: Torque converter recall number 17V427000.. is it possible that what they did could of been a temporary fix?
Vehicle started making noises from the gas cap like vacuum noises. After refueling, car seem like it was having problems starting. After letting it sit for a couple minutes at the gas station, the car cranked but started putting like it wanted to turn off. Got to a red light and car suddenly turned off. Message shown on dash : Auto StartStop disabled. Manual Start Required. Car still wouldn’t crank. Got a scanner hooked up to the car and it said Evap Purge Solenoid Valve. There were recalls on this type of problem but not the same engine size. This could have caused a fatal accident had traffic been moving.
The Air conditioner blower will turn on all by itself while driving. The on off button for the radio stopped working
