MY CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000 MILES ON IT AND ONE DAY, I TURNED IT ON AND IT MADE A ROUGH SOUND STARTING UP. I THEN NOTICED MY CAR WAS SHAKING AND THAT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON, SO I ELECTED TO NOT DRIVE IT TO ENSURE NO FURTHER DAMAGE COULD OCCUR. I CONSULTED WITH TWO MECHANICS WHO BOTH STATED THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM MY SPARK PLUGS, CAUSED BY FLUID IN MY CYLINDERS, AND THAT IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE MY ENGINE. THEY PLUGGED CODE READERS IN THAT INDICATED THAT MY SECOND CYLINDER WAS MISFIRING. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I FOUND MANY OTHER CARS OF MY MAKE AND MODEL THAT HAD THE SAME ISSUE, SOME OF WHICH STATED FIRES AND OTHER SERIOUS DANGERS AND WERE ALL WITHIN 15,000 MILES OF USAGE AS MY CAR. I AM DISCOURAGED AND DISAPPOINTED BY THE FACT THAT I WAS SOLD A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR A CORPORATION TO NEGLECT THEIR MISTAKES AND LAND ME WITH A 400 DOLLAR CAR PAYMENT ON A NONFUNCTIONAL VEHICLE THAT COULD'VE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. I INTEND TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH, 2021 TO DISCUSS MY OPTIONS.
AS WE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS RIDING A LITTLE ROUGH AND I HAD RECENTLY GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE SO I KNEW INSTANTLY IT WASN'T THE ENGINE CAUSE IM FAMILIAR WITH ENGINE ISSUES SO, I PULLED OVER TO A GAS STATION A MID OUR TRAVELS TO A JOB INTERVIEW. I LISTENED FOR ANY UNUSUAL SOUNDS BUT THERE WASN'T ANY. I THEN REALIZED THAT THE VEHICLE WHEN SHIFTED INTO GEAR IT JERKED A LITTLE HARD AND ACCELERATED ABNORMALLY. SO THAT'S WHEN I DECIDED TO ADD TRANSMISSION FLUID. THINKING THAT WOULD MAKE IT BETTER WHEN RETURNING BACK TO DRIVING IT STARTED OFF REAL GOOD RIDING SMOOTHLY LIKE EVER BEFORE. THEN IT OUT OF NO NEUTRALIZE LEAVING MY FOOT REVING THE ENGINE COASTING ALONG THE HIGHWAY, BREAKS LOCKED ON DRIVERS MAKING ME SWERVE AND TAIL WHIP, WHILE ALONG SIDE OF TRUCKS WITH ME AND FAMILY AT RISK OF OUR LIVES AND OTHERS TAKEN BECAUSE OF A POTENTIAL RECALL. MY VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND MY VIN A PART OF THIS RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER OFFERED TO PAY A PORTION OF THE REPAIRS. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR OUT OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING FEELS LOSE LIKE WHEN I TURN IT FEELS AS IF IT GOING TO STEER MY CAR INTO A CIRCLE. IT IS VERY TOUCHY ON THE STEERING NOT SURE IF IT NEEDS TIGHTENED OR JUST SIMPLY FIXED FROM THE RECALL.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in her driveway on a hill without the emergency brakes, the vehicle rolled down the hill and bumped into her husband's parked vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer but was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated on April 2022, while she was driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to shake and failed to go over 50 mph. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V427000 (Power Train), however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and transferred her to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The consumer stated she should be reimbursed for the repairs.
My transmission shift linkage is broken and keeps detaching from the transmission shift lever. According to the recall that is already out there for this issue, 2014-2016 Ford fusions are covered. My vehicle was manufactured in 2016 but is a 2017 model year. As such its using the affected parts but not part of the recall. The cost to repair it is well outside what I can afford.
NOTIFIED BY DEALER THAT LUG NUTS HAVE 'SWOLLEN' AND ARE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. THE LUG NUTS SHOULD BE REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. IF NOT REPLACED, THE LUG NUTS COULD BE DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION.
CHANGED MY BATTERY FOR A NEW ONE. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS AN ORANGE WRENCH APPEARS AS A WARNING TO CHECK MY MANUAL. CHECKED THE MANUAL IT SAYS THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER TRAIN. I LOOKED UP WHAT THAT MEANS BUT THERE WASN'T A TRUE DEFINITION OF WHAT WAS WRONG. I HAD TO WAIT TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO MY CAR WOULDN'T LET ME CHANGE IT OUT OF PARK. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED AND THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THE PART THAT'S MESSED UP IS ELECTRICAL AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY TYPE OF CAR. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I'M WAITING FOR THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE BUT THE PART MALFUNCTION WASN'T ANYTHING THAT I DID JUST LIKE THE OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS. THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LEAKED COOLANT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COURTESY FORD LINCOLN (1313 NE 122ND AVE, PORTLAND, OR 97230) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT SOUGHT A SECOND OPINION FROM LANDMARK FORD LINCOLN (12000 SW 66TH AVE, TIGARD, OR 97223) AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED A HEAD GASKET FAILURE WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED HAD TO BE REPAIRED OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
2017 FORD FUSION SUFFERING FROM A WELL-DOCUMENTED COOLANT LEAK INTO CYLINDERS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A LOSS OF POWER AND HAD TO BE TOWED. COOLANT FOUND IN CYLINDERS SEE TSB 19-2436
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and required to be jumpstarted. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred while coming to a complete stop. The contact stated that on some occasions, the ABS warning light would illuminate and the ABS would make abnormal sounds prior to the failure; on other occasions, the check engine warning light was illuminated and a message indicating that the vehicle was overheating was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed three times out of the five to a Cadillac dealer and a Ford dealer. The dealers replaced the water pump, the alternator and an unknown part; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle would lose electrical power while the battery was fully charged. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V162000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) that he related to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AND LIGHTS POPPED UP ON DASH LOSE OF STEERING STOP CAR SAFELY IN HIGH TRAFFIC AND BASICALLY LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND ABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR ALMOST CRASHED INTO A SEMI. WITH PREGNANT GIRL IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
2.0L ECO BOOST ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO COOLANT LEAK AND FAULTY DESIGN IN ENGINE MANUFACTURING. INITIAL WARNING CODES WAS NEED MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 2. REPLACED SPARK PLUGS ISSUE REMAINED. RECOMMEND REPLACING IGNITION COIL MOVED IT TO CYLINDR 1, SAME MESSAGE OF MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 2 REMAINED. ROUGH IDLE
VEHICLE KEEPS RANDOMLY SHOWING A SHIFT SYSTEM FAULT WHEN I GO TO DRIVE AND A PIECE THAT SHOULD CONNECT TO THE TRANSMISSION TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR KEEPS DISCONNECTING CAUSING THE CAR TO STAY IN PARK AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STAY ON.
BACK IN 2018, 1.3 MILLION FORD FOCUS VEHICLES WERE RECALLED DUE TO A FUEL PURGE VALVE. WHO'S TO SAY THE SAME ISSUE IS STARTING TO OCCUR AGAIN, BUT TO THE FORD FUSIONS? MY 2017 FORD FUSION THAT I PURCHASED 6 MONTHS AGO HAS THIS ISSUE. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN! ON MY WAY TO WORK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, DURING MORNING TRAFFIC, MY CAR DECIDES TO TURN OFF CAUSING A ACCIDENT, BUT LUCKILY NOBODY GOT HURT! WHILE I WAS SITTING THERE WAITING FOR THE POLICE TO ARRIVE, I TRIED TURNING IT BACK ON, AND LUCKILY IT DID, BUT SURPRISE SURPRISE NOW WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. WHEN I GOT OFF OF WORK MY CAR TURNED BACK ON (STILL WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON) AND THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN 4 TIMES ON MY WAY BACK HOME. I DROVE ALL THE WAY BACK ON THE RIGHT HAND PASSING LANE BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND COULD EASILY CAUSE A ACCIDENT AGAIN! WHAT IT DID EXACTLY IS IT STARTS LIKE A HUMMING/VIBRATING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE DASHBOARD, I COULDN'T PUSH ON MY GAS, TURN MY STEERING WHEEL, AND AUTOMATICALLY GOES DOWN TO 0 MPH, AND ON THE DASHBOARD IT ASKED ME TO PUT THE CAR IN P, AND THEN TURNS OFF. OF COURSE THE WARRANTY THAT I PURCHASED DIDN'T WANT TO COVER IT, AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY $425 TO HAVE THIS FIXED! FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE SERIOUSLY GETS INJURED!
CAR RAN ROUGH WHEN FIRST STARTED THEM SMOOTHED OUT, HAPPENED A FEW TIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. COOLANT WAS LEAKING IN CYLINDERS #4 AND #3. MECHANIC STATED THIS YEAR CAR THE ENGINE BECOMES POROUS AND THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.
I / THE OWNER OF MY 2017 FORD FUSION SE 1.5L HAD A SEIZED ENGINE OCCUR ON MY COMMUTE HOME FROM WORK. WHITE SMOKE BILLOWED AND BREWED OUT MY EXHAUST AS I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING WRONG AND ALMOST CAUSED A COLLISION FOR THE PERSON BEHIND ME.. AFTER GETTING IT TOWED THE NEXT DAY OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY I BROUGHT IT TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC STATING THAT THIS IS A PROBLEMATIC ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND MY ENGINE BLOCK FAILED & CRACKED. PROCEEDING THIS, I WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC TO GET A SECOND THOUGHT, JUST IN CASE. SAME RESPONSE TO THE ISSUE. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE WITH THE 1.5L. I WAS QUOTED $4,800 TO FIX THIS ISSUE, MONEY I DON'T HAVE LAYING AROUND, MY WARRANTY RECENTLY EXPIRED AND BOTH FRED BEANS OF LANGHORNE & FORD MOTOR COMPANY BOTH TOLD ME TO "POUND SAND" BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THAT THIS WHOLE ISSUE IS ON ME TO BE FIXED. EVEN THOUGH I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR THE PROGRAM 19B37 RECALL - WHICH FIXES THE COMPUTER SYSTEM TO "PREVENT" THIS ISSUE." THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE LOCAL SHOP FOR CYLINDER MISFIRES, SPARK PLUG FOULS & ENGINE START UP ISSUES. WHICH APPARENTLY ARE LEADING SIGNS TO THE VEHICLE ENGINE BLOCK ISSUE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AND HAVE FOUND BULLETINS STATING THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT KNOWN BY FORD AS FORD HAD RELEASED THE BULLETINS. THIS DEFECT LEADS TO ENGINE FAILURE AND IS NOTHING CAUSED BY THE DRIVER BUT SOLELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN CERTAIN ENGINES WERE MANUFACTURED THEY WERE MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY. SUCH AS THE 1.5L. FORD IS UNWILLING TO PAY FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE ADMITTED THIS IS FAULT DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES IF THE ENGINE IS TO STALL OR SEIZE DURING DRIVING THIS COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY, ACCIDENT, AND EVEN DEATH. THE OWNER/MYSELF DRIVING VEHICLE HOME MY 2017 FORD FUSION SE 1.5L ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN WHITE SMOKE BILLOWED OUT FROM THE EXHAUST LEADING TO A SEIZED ENGINE ON A HIGH TRAFFIC DENSITY HIGHWAY. THE CAR STARTED TO SPUTTER, CLUNK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT FLASHING AS I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS CAR HAD ISSUES BEFORE THE FAILURE OF THE ENGINE WITH CYLINDERS MISFIRING, SPARK PLUGS BEING FOULED AT LOW MILEAGE AND ENGINE LOSING COOLANT. PER MY VEHICLES BREAKDOWN I BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WORKED FOR FORD AND STATED MY ENGINE LOCKED UP AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AFTER BRINGING MY CAR TO ANOTHER SHOP FOR A SECOND DIAGNOSIS, IT WAS THE SAME ANSWER AFTER A FULL LOOK AT IT. I TRIED CALLING FORD IN MICHIGAN THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND, MY DEALER FRED BEANS OF FORD GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND SAYING I HAVE TO COVER THIS REPAIR DUE TO IT BEING OUT OF MY WARRANTY. I DID THE PROGRAM 19B37 RECALL FROM FORD WHICH RESET THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT ENTERING THE ENGINE. CLEARLY, THAT ISSUE THAT FORD TRIED TO PATCH UP DIDN'T WORK. MY MECHANIC & FORD DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED AND HAVE FOUND BULLETINS STATING THIS IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT KNOWN BY FORD AS FORD HAD RELEASED THE BULLETINS. THIS DEFECT LEADS TO ENGINE FAILURE AND IS NOTHING CAUSED BY THE DRIVER BUT SOLELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN CERTAIN ENGINES WERE MANUFACTURED THEY WERE MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY. FORD IS UNWILLING TO PAY FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE ADMITTED THIS IS FAULT DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES IF THE ENGINE IS TO STALL OR SEIZE DURING DRIVING THIS COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY, ACCIDENT, AND EVEN DEATH. FORD IS NOT RECALLING THIS ENGINE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE - RECALL THIS ISSUE. 1.5 & 2.0 ENGINES ARE VERY PROBLEMATIC. THE COST FOR MY REPAIR IS $4,800.00 THAT I DON'T HAVE.

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE IN MANUAL STEERING MODE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V632000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,256.*DT *TR
TURNING INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AT ABOUT 10-15 MPH THE LEFT WHEEL AND HUB FELL OFF CAUSING THE CAR TO CRASH INTO THE PAVEMENT. THIS CAUSED ALOT OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND FENDERS. AND THE LINKAGE TO THE RIGHT WHEEL. FORD SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I HIT SOMETHING BUT I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AND MY CAR STOPPED DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

THE CONTACT'S WIFE RE-ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE HOWEVER, THE GEAR SHIFTER SEIZED IN NEUTRAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING HAD DETACHED. A ZIP TIE WAS USED TO ATTACHED THE GEAR SHIFTER AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. UNIVERSITY FORD DURHAM (5001 DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL BLVD, DURHAM, NC 27707, (919) 682-9171) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON INDICATING A MISFIRE IN ENGINE 3. FORD DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED NEW SPARKPLUGS AND IGNITION COIL. I COMPLETED THE REPAIR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. AFTER FEW DAYS, THE ENGINE STARTED OVERHEATING SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I CHECKED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR AND IT WAS NEAR EMPTY. PAID FORD AGAIN TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, THIS TIME THEY IDENTIFIED COOLANT INTRUSION IN ENGINE 4 CAUSED BY INTERNAL COOLANT LEAK. THE RECOMMENDATION IS A NEW REMAN FORD ENGINE WITH THE ESTIMATE OF $5000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact observed white smoke coming from the exhaust, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that coolant intrusion in cylinder #2 had damaged the engine, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who again determined that coolant intrusion in cylinder #2 had damaged the engine however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 60,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FAIRWAY FORD INC (444 US-117, BURGAW, NC 28425) AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW SPARK PLUG NEEDED A SPARK PLUG. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FEBRUARY 2020 SO 8 MONTHS LATER THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY CRASHED. WHITE SMOKE IS ALSO EXPELLING FROM THE VEHICLE EXHAUST. THE SPARK PLUGS ARE BURNING UP THEY WERE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 8 DAYS AGO AND THEY ARE COMPLETELY BURNED WHITE.

THIS IS THE ECOBOOST ENGINE IN A 2017 FORD FUSION PLATINUM. NOW THE ENGINES ARE ON BACK ORDER SO IT WILL TAKE MANY WEEKS TO GET REPLACED. THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS A RENTAL CAR FOR 10 DAYS.

AFTER I GOT THE CAR BACK 2 DAYS LATER THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON, I RETURNED THE CAR TO THEM. IT'S 2000 MILES OVER THE EXTENDED WARRRANTY I PURCHASED. AFTER THEY HAD IT A FEW DAYS THEY DETERMINED IT HAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYCLINDER NUMBER 1. THE REPAIR WAS $6,236.92 TO FIX. I WAS ABLE TO PERSUADE THE DEALERSHIP INTO HAVING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY PAY HALF. MY PART WAS $3236.92
HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON ON MY 2017 FORD FUSION SE WITH ONLY 61,000 MILES AND THERE WAS A MISFIRE ON THE FIRST 1000 REVOLUTIONS AND IT WAS ON CYLINDER 2. I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT ON GORDON DR IN RUSTON, LOUISIANA WHEN AN ANIMAL ENTERED THE ROAD SO I STEERED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID THE ANIMAL AND SUDDENLY LOSS CONTROL OF STEERING. THIS CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO A DITCH WITH A CEMENT DRAIN. MY CAR PROCEEDED TO DRAG ON THE GROUND SO I DID NOT DRIVE IT AND REPORTED IT TO INSURANCE AND IT WAS DECLARED TOTALED.
AFTER 3 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR AND 81,000 MILES (PURCHASED NEW AND NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES), VEHICLE'S ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED, RESULTING IN COOLANT CONTAMINATION. FORD'S INVESTIGATION SHOWED CYLINDER #2 AND #3 WERE MISFIRING AND OIL WAS LEAKING IN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, POOR ACCELERATION, AND RUMBLING WHILE IDLING ALL FIRST OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY, JUST 2 DAYS AFTER A FORD SERVICE CENTER DID A COMPLETE ENGINE CHECK AND OIL CHANGE. ONCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AT US AND THE ENGINE WOULDN'T PUSH PAST 2K RPMS, WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER (AS FORD WARNED US THAT FLASHING INDICATED FUEL WAS DUMPING INTO THE ENGINE). THE FORD DEALERSHIP WE TOWED THE CAR TO HAD NO AVAILABILITY TO FIX THE CAR, AS 4 OTHER FUSIONS WITH THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AND ISSUE CAME IN EARLIER THAT WEEK. THAT'S WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THIS IS A MUCH BIGGER ISSUE THAN WHAT WE BELIEVED WAS A RANDOM BREAK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT WE COMPLETED THE RECALL FORD ISSUED (CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 19B37) 8,000 MILES PRIOR TO THE ENGINE CRACKING, WHICH WAS TO REPROGRAM THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE TO FIX: "COOLANT INTRUSION INTO THE CYLINDER BORES CAN LEAD TO COOLANT LOSS, EXCESSIVE TAILPIPE SMOKE, OR ILLUMINATED MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHTS DUE TO ENGINE MISFIRE AND COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO ENGINE DAMAGE". FURTHERMORE, FORD ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 19-2139 THAT ACKNOWLEDGES THIS EXACT ISSUE AND THE WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK FOR, WHICH FORD FAILED TO IDENTIFY DURING THE ENGINE CHECK 2 DAYS PRIOR. IT'S CLEAR THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE 1.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE FOR 2014-2019 FUSIONS, AND I'M CONFIDENT YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THE CARS COOLANT WAS RECENTLY REFILLED AND UPON INSPECTION AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED, THE COOLANT RESERVOIR WAS AGAIN EMPTY. THE CAR WAS KEPT UP ON MAINTENANCE AND DIDN'T SHOW ANY SIGNS OF MALFUNCTION PRIOR. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDER, CAUSING IT TO MISFIRE. THE CAR PROMPTED ME TO PULL OVER AND STOP THE ENGINE BECAUSE THIS ISSUE WAS MAKING IT OVERHEAT. THE CAR REMAINS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AS IT IS TOO FRAGILE TO DRIVE.

I DID A TON OF RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE OTHER PROBLEMS JUST LIKE THIS, SOME IN WARRANTY AND SOME NOT. FORD DID HAVE A RECALL ON THE 1.5 LITER ENGINE FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL OR WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS PROBLEM, SO BASICALLY I AM BEING TOLD I AM STUCK WITH THE BILL. THE CAR HAS 65000 MILES AND IS 5000 OVER THE WARRANTY. FORD WAS CONTACTED BY MYSELF AND THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY WILL NOT HELP AT ALL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL GARAGE AND THEY CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND THEN AT AROUND 60000 MILES THE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND OFF. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THE CAR STARTED SHAKING REALLY BADLY UPON START UP. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS ISSUED AND I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MOTOR AND FORD HAS YET TO OFFER A RECALL.
